Wonderful spot, friendly service and lots of locals, which is always the best recommendation! Delicious fish and chips, upgraded to poutine and a water for only $14. Will be back anytime I'm in the area.
Recently closed down for a period of time by the Provincial health & food inspector for good reason. I will never understand the 5 star reviews other than to say, Saint John restaurant "critics" are a weird lot. The picnic tables inside for seating are laced in grease; you might slide off your seat. When you arrive home, you feel in desperate need of a shower with Lysol. Exceptionally dirty establishment. But, for some unknown reason, those who like it, like it a lot. Those who rave about the fish and chips and clams have cleary never been to Ossies, Clam digger, Comeau's or any other of a handful of true seafood eateries. I love a good grease restaurant but - this isn't it.
This restaurant hit the spot when it came to getting fish and chips. Bob has ONLY been here for 56 years. Food was hot, fresh, and ready in under 5 mins. Taste was exactly how you want fish and chips to be. The only reason 1 star is missing is because the restaurant was a bit dated looking for my preference, but well in line to the small town charm vibes it gave off. There is family history displayed in the shop and the owner Bob seems like a great individual you could chat with. His father started a restaurant in 1913 in Cornwall, Ontario.
We are visiting from Ottawa and decided to try Bob's for our fix of Clams and chips! So glad we did! We got a huge plate full of big clams that were cooked and battered perfectly! And the price was the lowest I've seen anywhere! We will definitely come back!
I had fried shrimp, I think from a box. Husband had scallops, small ones cut in half and heavily battered. Was given a little container of obviously old seafood sauce. Fries were ok. Prices weren’t bad. No need to come back.
I wanted to try something new and local. I was looking around and found this place. Wanted to try their clams but they are not Available today , just tried the small fish and chips. They are not too oily (they are usually at most of the places) and fries are good too. The owner's and the staff are very welcoming. Will be going there soon, to try their liver and chips, cheeseburger the popular clams .
The cutest place I have ever been too. They have amazing prices for the variety of menu they offer. If you are a sea food lover this should be your go to. If you are looking at great food for lesser cost, this is your place. The breakfast menu is superb for the price. If you are a hot dog lover should try their hot dog with works! You will not regret. Peter is such an amazing person, knows you by your regular order you make and it kind of blew me off. Cannot say enough you have to experience it yourself! #supportlocal 1000% recommended!!
Family business running from this location since 1985. Good prices, large servings, delicious comfort food. It's a laid-back place that has an eclectic decor featuring crank machines, old arcade games, ancient magazines, and taxidermied ducks. Bob's is a Saint John treasure, and many families, like my own, have a tradition of making the pilgrimage to Bob's whenever we visit home. I recommend the whole clam platter, but they also have awesome cheeseburgers and other tasty stuff.

Cheap delicious fast food. No pretense. No fluff. Great liver too. Yes thats right. House-made fries, with ketchup in a red squeeze bottle, not Aioli. A grumpy chef and a friendly counter guy. Stacks of magazines from 1979. A local treasure.

Cant beat Bobs. Its a Saint John staple. When youre craving good ole Maritime chow ( that your grandparents tell stories about, no doubt ), this is the place for you. Hell, gotta be doing something to be a happening place for decades!
The fried clams were good, the fried fish was good, and the prices are good. But the old frying oil always makes the chips look cooked except they are always way underdone.

If you are looking for an old school feed that fills you for an amazing price, look no further. This place hits every nail on the head. Food is what you want coming from a old school family diner experience. I had the double cheeseburger platter and had trouble finishing the plate the portons were so big. Place was clean. food was hot. What else could you ask for? Also everyone behind the counter was nice from the cook to the cashier to the owner himself. Lovely people and will be making this place a regular spot from now on!
Gotta love Bobs, I have been a customer for 40+ years and their food has remained the same. Prices are low and very affordable for everyone. Parking: Parking is located off of Wilson Street behind the restaurant, lots of assigned parking spots Kid-friendliness: Lots of food choices, and old school video games.

Greasy Bobs is a relic of a bygone era. Jaw dropping low pricing. Massive portions. Very friendly staff. Burgers are made in house and seem to be larger than 1/3lbs fries are also made on the spot Be warned the food is more on the oily side so it should be eaten as soon as possible.

We had the whole clam platter. The clams were tender & juicy on the inside with crispy batter on the outside. They were cooked to perfection! The fries were delicious, too. We drive just over an hour to get them and yes, theyre that good.

Bobs Takeout seemed like a pleasant idea, heard all the talk about the clams and poutine so I ordered it. Greasy bob fixed me up a nice platter of food poisoning, when I got back home, I puked my guts out. The taste of grease coming back up was disgusting. Please, consider this review before getting clams!

Super greasy
Trust Me - I just left Bobs Take Out and feel totally nauseous. It was perhaps the worst fish and chips I have eaten. The batter was a thick mass of grease. The fish was dry, which suggests it was left outside the fridge or had sat out too long. The chips were more like chip crumbs short and stubby. The grease they were cooked in must have been quite old because they were nothing more then an emulsified concoction of fat. I think that this is the second time I written such a harsh review. It is done with the hope that the proprietors of this old establishments will renew and upgrade their standards. This is a simple dish, to make it appetizing and appealing is not difficult I hope the owners of this establishment will again take pride in serving this simple dish with more respect for people who trust them to make it enjoyable!!!!!!
On vacation in SJ from Ottawa and wanted to try local fish and chips. Bobs excellent and staff was so friendly.
Something has changed, weve been going to Bobs for many years and were shocked today to find out the fries are no longer the thicker fresh cut style but instead awful shoe string frozen fries? Next was the gravy, definitely not the same but really bland now. So disappointing to see these classic menu items changed.

Family business. Great food ! Real friendly people ! Unbelievably low prices and very large menu . The money they didnt spend trying to glitz up the outside , they put back into the food quality and keeping their prices down . You have to try them at least once ! Sorry. Stairs are the only access
I rarely go to the same place twice when traveling, but Bob s was that good! Had take out both times. The fried whole clams had the best batter I ve had crunchy, light, and even a little fluffy. Great, simple poutine but with fresh ingredients and so tasty. The fish and chips were also great, we gobbled down the whole dish. It s a hole-in-the-wall local staple, with huge portions and fair prices. Very fast, polite and efficient service. If we re ever in the area again I would totally go back for more!

This place has amazing home cooked foods cooked right in front of you. Then wait is about 10 minutes( for them to cook it) but its sooo worth the wait! love the food here! The fish and chips is a must try!
Ok, gravy had no taste, hot dog was really good, burger was really good, the chicken strips have a great texture but not much taste at all, also a little weird that you have to kinda yell your order instead of their being a front cashier

I stumbled across this place one night waiting for my wife to finish her pottery class and was blown away by how good and cheap the food was. Definitely not a high class place, but the food made up for it. They have a couple arcade machines you can play, and the whole place gives off the vibes of a diner from years ago. Avoid the bathrooms though. They re tragic.

Bobs is family owned and operated and has been a staple on the west side of Saint John for as long as I can remember. Nothing fancy, could be considered the opposite of fancy to some, but its classic diner food at an amazing price and always friendly.
Bobs is the best place to eat especially their clams ,they cook them just right and they give you a good size plate. Keep up the good work.
Bob s is a great go-to place for an amazing menu at extremely affordable pricing. The choices are endless and you never hear the words we are out of that like you do at other places.
