Beer Bread in Saint John

The food was delicious and the service was great! It was my husbands birthday and we were greeted with champagne and every staff member who spoke to us wished him a happy birthday :)

This was the second time weve eaten there and the server, Ian was phenomenal with his service for the food. The mushroom pizza was great and looking at what others gotten to eat, I will have to come back and try their meals. Great Job!

Best pizza in town, hands down. The Detroit crust is mindblowing & though a bit more expensive than your Dominoes or Papa Johns, the quality and heft are worth every tiny penny! Decadent stuff... The Tavern pizzas (traditional hand-rolled crusts) are more economical, but also fantastic. Its a great thing they provide both crusts, as theyre different beasts, with different price points, but sharing the same level of quality... If I could say anything to the contrary, it might be that the club music kinda sucks - Dust in the Wind with beats for the dancefloor? Seemed at odds with the menu & if I could read the other guests, probably not their thing either! And one other wee suggestion: the pizza is SO darn incredible that when you get to piece #5 out of 8, sometimes (because its served on a sheet pan with butcher paper), the crust loses its beautiful crispness & gets the sog a bit...wondering if even cornmeal might help to lift it a bit, or little low cooling racks, so the crust doesnt steam directly against the pan? This seems more prevalent on the Detroit crusts Ive had, probably because of the simple heft of delectability the crust must hold! Either way, though - Id come for this pizza if they were outside in a rainstorm playing bagpipes! Killer stuff

Went for a business dinner but it turns out this is more of a bar than a restaurant - our bad! Those who enjoy that vibe will probably love this place. The Detroit pizzas were exceedingly heavy and greasy; the tavern style Chicago version was on a very thin crust and was good. The mini beer bread app was dry and tasteless (and overpriced!); the meatballs were good. The drink prices were reasonable. Dessert (chocolate bump cake) was unimpressive: I bake often and the cake we were served was dry and tasteless and I would have been embarassed to serve this to my guests. However, the service was excellent ... but if you want a quieter place for dinner, this is not the place.

Upon entering we were greeted by whom I can assume is the manager/owner. Very friendly gentlemen. We approached the bar area to order some take out. The waitress was friendly and knowledgeable but she was very difficult to understand. She spoke so fast and barely moved her mouth. As we sat and waited for our pizza to be ready I happened to notice that the waitress who waited on us was inappropriately dressed in the sense that she had no undergarment on her top half and things were extremely perky to say the least. I as a woman feel like if you are working in a fancier restaurant u should be dressed appropriately so as not to offend the customers. A padded bra would have went a long way in this case. Other than that aspect of my experience, the 8 mile garlic fingers were amazing and the pizza was ok. Price wise it s expensive but I m not complaining for an afternoon meal out.

Had lunch here today - tried the bread, meatballs, and pizza slices. Everything was excellent. The pizza is ON POINT one of my top 3 favorites. We ve eaten pizza in all major cities, Italy, and we cook in our wood fired oven. Dough was amazing! Light but crispy with perfect flavor. The owner and manager provide A+ service - owner put on Happy Bday for my sister. Would highly recco this place - have told everyone about it.

We hosted a company event for 50 people, and Ian was our one and only server. Despite the large group, his service was nothing short of exceptional. He was incredibly helpful, attentive to all of our needs, and handled everything with ease. What impressed us the most was that he managed it all with a smile on his face. I ve never experienced such outstanding service he truly made the evening memorable!

Food and service were good but after I paid (2 hours before close) I went to the bathroom, left my stuff at the table to show Id be back, came back 2 mins later and my glass of wine that still had at least 2 oz left had been cleared off my table. :(

Was there Sunday set on deck 10 mins before server came over ,10 mins later to get a beer ordered right away, nice lady stressed .50 mins for pizza to show up no napkins or cutlery waited 10 mins so ate it with our hands .They should close deck if they are not going to service customers ,never again .Never asked if we wanted another drink asked for chk had to go inside to pay .Unprofessional

We arrived later evening and it was quiet. The server was attentive while maintaining a casual approach with a solid understanding of the menu. The pizza was excellent and the salad somewhat underperforming. The restaurant was sparkling clean including restrooms which I always see as a reflection of how the kitchen operates. Recommended for a casual evening when price, location and service matter.

Delicious Trifecta pizza, just love it and we re vegetarian so ordered Chicago pizza without meat but it was outstanding will go again for sure..!!!

I went to beer bread for dinner with my family we had the tavern style mushroom pizza and the pasta. Everything was absolutely amazing we will be back.

everytime i go in here, the restaurant is dead...and it confuses the hell out of me, they have a prime location, all of the food is fantastic, great selection of craft beer, wine selection isnt so great, but it is consistently one of the best restaurants ive eaten at in the Saint John area, highly recommend

Food is similar to a high school cafeteria. Tip option starts at 18%. No soap in any washroom. So much wrong with this.

I eat at Beer Bread a few times a week and have a lovely experience every time! Beautiful atmosphere with friendly and knowledgeable staff. The service, food, and drinks were 10/10 amazing. My boyfriend and I go for the 2 for 1 pasta special on Thursday nights and are blown away with the quality and taste in their food. Our favourite dish is the vodka Linguini with mushrooms and chicken. Highly recommend trying Beer Bread Pizza if you re around Saint John. Kid-friendliness: Kid friendly menu items and arcade games for the kids to play while waiting for food.

Best bar tender I ever had she had just start and moved from Ontario I can on even remember the name but I would go back even if everything else sucked just on her service offer knowledge and great customer service

We stopped to try some local beer and have a light meal; we never got to the meal. My mother is over 80 to give some context, shes not a quick drinker, and she accidentally ordered a 32oz beer on draft. When our server came to take our order we both ordered a 32oz beer and I asked the server to leave a menu, because I wanted to order a bit of food. So my 80+ year old mother was down to the last 8 ounces of her beer(took her over half an hour to drink that much) before we saw our server again. By then my beer was gone, and only a bit of my mothers remained so I did not bother ordering food. That was a good thing because another 20 minutes went by and no check. We had to go downstairs to the counter to get it. Now I know youre thinking it was busy...nope maybe 4 or 5 tables max, and one of those was a single lady who was reading her book. There were at least 2 servers. If youre looking for service, look elsewhere. If you do go, I hope you dont get the blond server about 56 mid twenties. I wish I got her name, but again, I hardly saw her.

Food is absolutely delicious, we had the Mustang as well as the trifecta. Little on the pricey side, but thats to be expected with the current economy in canada. Would highly reccomend, the place itself is also beautifully renovated! Thanks a bunch!

I dropped into Beer Bread this weekend. I want to give a shout out to the bartender Madison. The service I received was fantastic and that girl can mix a martini! Served with a beautiful smile.

Overall, this place is beautiful, and the staff were helpful and friendly. So far, we havent been able to eat anything here as there arent any vegan options, but overall, the beer, while expensive, is good. Edit: the photos on Google show a vegan option, but the menu we saw didnt appear to have this option. Now that we know, well be back and give it a try! My review will change depending on the results! Edit 2: WOW! We had the vegan burger pizza to go, and it was delicious!!! I havent had Chicago-style pizza like that since visiting Toronto! We got it for takeaway, and it took well over an hour and 20 minutes to get it, but they were busy. Overall, a solid 4 with room for improvement around service times for takeaway. One other note is that it was VERY expensive.

If you like Chicago style deep dish pizza this is a great spot !! If it s busy the wait can sometimes be longer than expected but that just gives you more time to have another beer and socialize.

Feb 2024 Edit: Updating my review from three months ago to increase my rating on the food. I gave their pizza another try now that theyve been open for several months to see if they have improved and worked out some of the kinks and the pizza was excellent. Really unique and interesting style of pizza. Unfortunately, the pizza was over cooked, greasy, and most elements are not that flavourful. A little, but not overly, overpriced considering there are better pizza options in the city. They are fairly new, so I will definitely try again in the future with hopes that it improves.

Staff was so friendly and they knew we had a time schedule to get to the movies and they made sure we wouldnt be late. Getting us our food in a timely matter and letting us pay ahead of time. We love it there! Vegetarian options: A couple more vegan Pizza options would be great. The golden Arches Pizza is amazing, but be nice to have more of a classic style vegan pizza

Pizza was great but dessert was clearly old and unimpressive for the price. We had 2 servers that kept checking on us too frequently while eating and after. There were still empty tables so why bother us to leave? Friendly service but did not anticipate needs well like bringing extra napkins.

Dietary restrictions: I did like the gluten-free dough very much but the toppings lacked some flavor. I also really wish you would have offered a side salad option. Overall, the food was mediocre, the service was okay to good, but the TVs were extremely overwhelming and unfortunate because they took away from the atmosphere. Lose the tvs!

We got the Detroit style Mushroom pizza, a BBQ chicken beer bread style and a cheese pizza, definitely was pricy however we had leftovers and the pizzas were great. Especially the mushroom. Unfortunately the Cocktail I ordered was not, for the 14$ price I expected better. It first came without the rim(mistakes happen I get it), it was the Spicy Paloma, and I informed the server that it had none, Im assuming he was fairly new, he kind of argued with me about it requiring a rim until I showed him on the menu. But he remade it and it was very watery. Im not sure what recipe you have for that drink but you should get a new one. Overall our server was very kind and prompt, and I understand that mistakes happen. Just probably needs some more training.

This could be the best Detroit style pizza I have had in Canada. The price/portions are large and the price fits the portions. Go hungry, share or take some home. Truly a unique offering for SJ.

I almost never leave reviews, but I have to this time, maybe it will save someone a disappointment. Pizza was completely inedible. Decor is very nice but food has to be at least decent. Waste of time. Cant recommend.

Worth the wait!

This was genuinely one of the best pizzas Ive had in ages, in a very upscale feeling place! Disappointed they brought the VLTs down from Rockys, it for sure cheapens the feel of the place.

Ive had the most horrible experience. I dont even know where to start: - gluten free pizza is +$9 and tasted like glue - waitresses run with tablets, smart looking and nicely dressed, but thats it (they didnt even gave us plates, we ate pizza on napkins), no such thing as a good service there - we left that place hungry and told staff about it, nobody cared Excellent interior. Good place to get drunk and eat garbage food, take couple of pictures with friends, but thats it... Good luck guys! Great job!

We started with drinks (a HUGE 32oz thundermug of beer and an amazing cocktail nectar of the gods). This was followed with the buffalo chicken dip and it was INCREDIBLE!! So creamy and cheesy. We then had the Mustang pizza which was SO good! The dough/crust was beer bread which is basically sourdough. It was phenomenal. The interior is BEAUTIFUL and the service was impeccable. I cannot wait to come back

Awesome experience, great addition to the uptown! The service was great, food was awesome (especially the buffalo chicken dip! It was so nice and cheesy) and I also loved the fact that they include non alcoholic drinks on their menu, I was disappointed in the fact that the one I wanted to try (the mojito) was out but they just opened so that s totally understandable, as someone who no longer drinks that was greatly appreciated, cost was a bit on the higher side but for the atmosphere and the quality it was totally acceptable ps expect to wait as they are very busy

Great spot with potential. Unfortunately, the rest falls short. The meatball appetizer is laughable. While good, it is nothing special and consisted of 1 rather small meatball. Beer bread appetizer was exactly that. Warm and good, but something you would normally get for free. The mains, gnocchi, and vodka pasta were just ok and served with two pieces of oil soaked garlic foccacia. Finally, the pizza....another reviewer compared this to Detroit pizza. The only thing in common this pizza had with Detroit pizza was the shape. Again, the pizza was just ok.

10/10. Pizza was amazing. Service was fantastic. This will be a very popular restaurant very soon.

Wednesday night visit. Restaurant packed and we sat at the bar. The bar area is beautiful as is the entire restaurant. A lot of thought obviously went into the details of this restaurant, very nicely done. Also, a nice terrace/patio outside, it would be so enjoyable on a nice evening. Ordered the buffalo chicken dip and the mustang pizza. The crostini bread was excellent and the creamy dip with flavour kick tasted great with the crostini. Really enjoyed the Mustang pizza. Nice crispiness to the crust and lots of flavour and texture though the pizza. And the pickle topping was great!! Staff and service was excellent, very friendly and welcoming. Very enjoyable visit.

We left without being seated. We waited well over 10 minutes with no one ahead or behind us. The staff noticed us but did not welcome or acknowledge us, so we left. Maybe it was too busy? Sign said: please wait to be seated.

The service may get better but they completely forgot our order and didnt even notice that wed been waiting 90 minutes for food. They did end up comping a lot, but their ordering system foe outside needs work, and their waitstaff need training.

Went for a late lunch and it was only moderately busy; and a cruise ship was in so that was surprising. The bar area is gorgeous, very posh. The rest of the establishment was a bit confusing. Im not sure if they are trying to be a date-night restaurant or a sports bar. The decor says fine dining but the many MANY large TVs and VLTs send a different message. I do kinda want to go back for the arcade games upstairs though. Staff was prompt and courteous and was kind enough to go to the kitchen with a question from my companion. We were limited to the lunch menu at that time of day, which we didnt know beforehand. So no starters for us. I started with a mocktail that was pleasant but not very flavorful. The wait for food wasnt too long. Again there were mixed messages in how the food was presented; the pasta came out in an earthenware bowl but the pizza was served on a piece of parchment laid in a cafeteria tray. Our table shared bites of three dishes and all were excellent. The Vodka Linguine was spectacular in flavor and consistency. The pesto around the rim of the dish of the linguine detracted a bit from the excellent vodka sauce (according to my companion who is notably not the biggest fan of pesto). Pizza crust for the two pizzas was thick, soft, and bready with a golden bottom. Crisp, but not so much that it takes effort to bite. I loved it. The pepperoni on the Pepperoni pizza was perfect. The flavour and level of heat I think would suit almost anyone. I had the Trifecta pizza with its lovely stripes of contrasting sauces. It was very good, and I somehow managed to get it all in my mouth and not on my white shirt. I think that speaks to the wonderful thickness of the sauces. The Caesar salad was Caesar salad, not bad but not notable. Portion sizes overall were great for lunch, enough to be filling but not so much that I would say I was stuffed.

TLDR; The building is beautiful and modern, but there are a lot of screens - good for watching a game if that is your thing, distracting otherwise and detracts from the atmosphere. The Mustang pizza was decent but I would opt for something less doused in sauce next time. Cocktails were terrible and overpriced, if you want a drink stick to beer and wine. --- My wife and I went here on a Saturday for dinner. We were both looking forward to trying out a new place, since it is always good to have another food option in the city. However, we both left dinner disappointed with the experience. The first thing you notice when walking in, is that a decent amount of money was put into modernizing the bar. The decor is more elevated than your regular sports bar and there was a good attention to detail. I personally think that the TVs hanging everywhere bring the atmosphere down, especially since the only thing on the screens while we were eating reminded me of a 12 year olds YouTube algorithm. If there was a game on, and that is what you came for, not a problem. Just not what we were looking for. The service and food were both okay. We ordered The Mustang pizza, and while we think it was a bit heavy handed with the ranch and BBQ sauce on top, it was a good portion and filled us up enough. The flavours would be exactly what I was looking for if I was drinking a bit before hand. The big disappointment for us was the drinks. We opted for a cocktail each from their menu with no prices, and picked Space Oddity (Gin and Chambord with mint, cranberry, lime, and blackberries) and Before the Battle (their take on an espresso martini). Both drinks were bad. The Space Oddity tasted like a watery gin and cranberry juice, there was no hint of mint, lime, or blackberry whatsoever. The server also informed us that the Space Oddity was from a mix when we commented on our drink. The espresso martini was watery, tepid, flat and weakly tasted of coffee. If I were going to pay what I thought the drinks were worth, I wouldnt give more than 6-7 dollars. On getting the bill, we found out that we actually owed 16 for the Space Oddity and 14 for Martini. 30 bucks for the drinks we received is very disappointing, especially since the menu didnt have the prices up front. If you were drinking beer or wine, I doubt there would be an issue, just stay far away from the cocktails. In the end I am just confused and disappointed. The bar looks like it is for high end drinks and drink prices agree, the food and TVs say sports bar, and cocktail quality says bad dive bar. Hope they figure it out. Might try it in a few months when they have a chance to adjust.

This restaurant is attracting some customers I think who remember when the building housed another business and are anxious to see the transformation. The decor is nice. I will point out the back support on the low chairs was so far back to be useless as in offering no back support. The whipped ricotta dish was served in a deconstructed way. While good I did feel the cherry tomatoes could have used another slice. The pepperoni deep dish was good but I felt the sauce was in some places was too heavy and sadly I found the sauce had no character (bland). The thin Mushroom and arugula was ok but perhaps could have used a bit more of the feature ingredient. The staff was nice and the service was good.

Beautiful building. The menu was more taylored for white collar people then blue collar people looking for hearty food. The pizza was OK but not something Id go out of the way for.

Location, vibe and setup is best in SJ! Miscommunication between sever and kitchen made for delay in food, but was greatly made up for by service delivered by the manager Ian and bartender Madi. Head cook Sarah made amazing pizza. All staff were very professional and made for a 5 star experience. Food and drink were top notch. Must visit if in SJ.

I really wanted to love this place, but unfortunately I didn t. The atmosphere is great! Our service the first time was okay, but the second time we went it was much better! The first time we went we had the Detroit style pizza, and got the pepperoni and the mustang. Unfortunately we didn t love either. Obviously it s a very heavy style of pizza, however we found the pepperoni lacked flavour and was just heavy. The mustang while it sounded delicious in theory, we tried it twice and found the chicken to be dry and the flavour not really there. Our second time around we tried the tavern pizza in hopes we d like it better. It s a very thin crust which is nice, however it was nothing special and could ve passed as a frozen pizza. The buffalo chicken dip is okay. We liked that the best. Though they just give you pieces of plain bread. No garlic butter on them, not toasted, not warm, just plain cold bread which I found a bit odd. But maybe that s the way it s suppose to be! Overall atmosphere and service are great! It s a beautiful place to get a drink and hang out, but the food is just okay.

Great atmosphere and really well done with the remodel. The food was okay and the drinks were less than okay. I figured with a new nice looking bar setup theyd make an amazing Mojito but it was one of the worst Ive ever had. We got pasta dishes and they were quite small for the price, we left still feeling hungry after spending almost $100. The service was not so great. Waiter hardly spoke to us and gave us the machine to pay and left. No goodbye or anything. I felt annoyed after tipping high and not even getting a have a good night or anything. It could have been such an amazing spot but Id rather go to other higher quality good tasting restaurants with better service for that money.

The atmosphere is great. 10/10 on the interior . Service was great. We got the buffalo chicken dip which was okay, and a thin mushroom pizza. Which was good. I read someone elses review about the buffalo dip and couldnt agree more- the bread should have something on it, felt a bit plain. Overall we liked it, we would go back.

First time here, beautiful spot with great staff. The Detroit pizza style was excellent, would almost return just for that. Unfortunately everything is pricey which is ok if its great. Meatball app not worth it, 3 small meatballs and not a lot of flavour. Tavern style pizza was tough, over worked dough? Paying over $10 for a beer I can get cheaper and more variety across the road is also a drawback.

Best deep dish since Detroit
