Since 1983 Grannan's Seafood has served up Maritime hospitality and Bay of Fundy seafood in the heart of Uptown, Saint John. 🍽️🦞
We recently visited Grannan's Seafood located in Market Square, uptown Saint John, and had a fantastic experience! This large restaurant features a dining room upstairs and a lively pub with a patio downstairs, making it a versatile spot for any occasion. Prices are on the higher side for meals and would easily be around $30 per head and more. We came specifically for the happy hour buck-a-shuck oysters 🦪 between 3-6 PM. Initially, we were seated upstairs and were informed that the special was only available for the bar and patio. However, our server went above and beyond by consulting the manager, and they kindly made an exception for us since there was no clear indication that the offer was exclusive to downstairs. We really appreciated their willingness to accommodate us! We ordered 24 oysters, which were on the smaller side but still delicious and definitely worth the price. We also tried the Pesto Cream Mussels, and they were absolutely delightful—flavorful and well-prepared. Our server was attentive and friendly, making our quick bite even more enjoyable. We left feeling satisfied and happy with our experience. We’ll definitely be back to enjoy the patio, which looked like a great spot for any weather condition. Highly recommend Grannan's Seafood for a fun dining experience!
I got a reservation about just 1 hour before and they actually had a table for me . The food was so very yummy 😋! If you’re small they give you a kids menu which has a bunch of different activities on them to do while waiting for your food 🍲. The place is very nice and the girl serving me there was really nice 👍 (she deserves a raise 💵) .
I had not only an amazing dinner but an overall wonderful experience at dinner. My friend and I shared the seafood bucket and were met with a delicious dinner with the flair of the bucket being dumped out in front of you. Our waiter Abe was so friendly; sharing favorites for appetizer options, thoughtfully inquiring about any allergies, checking in on us often, and chatting while we worked through the bucket. I’d say it’s just as fun as going to a boil with the added expertise of the chefs cooking the fresh seafood to perfection. Not only was the seafood fresh and tender but the whole bucket was flavorful and even the veggies were some of the best I’ve had! I’d also love to highlight that Abe noticed me using different pronouns for my friend and respectfully asked to confirm, which honestly made our whole experience like 100/10.
Absolutely fantastic experience! We enjoyed the massive seafood tower and full lobster with amazing roasted potatoes. Our family of young kids had a blast when our server came over with the fresh lobsters they chose for our meals and let our kids pet them before heading to the kitchens! The meal was excellent, the atmosphere was calming (even with the live entertainment of construction down by the water), but it was the staff who made our dinner memorable. Don't glance over this place, it is a must when you are in St. John! Thank you so much and we wish you all the best!
I had a shrimp cocktail, and it was good, but only 5 shrimps for 20 dollars. The presentation was ridiculous, the sauce on top of the lettuce in a plastic thing The waiter was overwhelmed and you could see that he had a lot to do. Over all I wouldn’t return, the portions are small and it took 30 minutes to place my order
Joe, my server, was amazing! Recommended the best food and paired my drink with it. Extremely nice gentleman and knowledgeable of what they serve. Hands down because of the outstanding service, I'll be back. The food was good and also the beers.
We went at a slow time after lunch. Long wait for order to go in, and then for food to arrive. My food was overcooked, under flavored and my husband was disappointed with the portion of his fish tacos as there were no sides included. I questioned the freshness of the steak as all I could taste was the steak rind, didn't enjoy it at all. Potatoes were dry and overcooked. bathroom was also not very clean. All that said, this was a Xmas lunch, splurging $60 for lunch, I feel that restaurants really need to watch their quality of their food and service. The waitress was very friendly! I seriously doubt we will be back as our last visit didn't wow us either.
Went at the end of August, we had no reservations but we were seated right away. It took a long time for the food to be served but I guess it’s because they were cooking it to perfection, which was what the food turned out to be! Well worth the wait. Place was clean and staff were friendly. Would go back when in St John’s again.
This experience was pretty bad. 5 of us were there and got drinks and 3 appetizers. We waited an Hour and half. The food was cold when we got it and it was WAY WAY WAY over priced for what It was. Drinks were not great either. Would not recommend.
This is a wonderful place to eat fish and chips, an excellent ceaser salad that pairs well with a ceaser drink. If you have a sweet tooth, they have a banana Foster which can get any kid to start liking bananas, and any adult a case of gambling with diabetes.
I had a lovely meal here. I really really loved the seafood boil.
Food was absolutely phenomenal. Wonderful staff very pleasant and great to deal with.
The food tasted better cold the day after
This is a seafood restaurant that serves fresh lobsters and other seafood ingredients.
Lobstaer roll and chips were OK
Good, little pricey..my steak overcooked .
Came here on cruise ship. As a native new Englander not impressed. Why in the north they use corn meal batter? It is to heavy. To many fries w my clam plate not many clams for $29, and literally 3 bites of cold slaw. Think you are buying a name at this restaurant.
Good place to eat
Delicious
Mice! I was there this week and mice were literally crawling up the walls! One ran right over my wifes feet! It was disgusting! They were also running across the floors eating food scraps! Guaranteed they are in the kitchen as well having a field day. To top it off we told the staff and they couldnt have cared any less. Like they accepted it. And they were very rude and very dismissive about it. We left immediately and wont ever return. Any restaurant that accepts vermin, allowing them to carry filth amongst the food they serve guests, should be shut down. Enter at your own risk people. Yuck!!!!
I ordered the striploin and was served a tough rib steak with tons of gristle. The spiralized potatoes were soggy and bitter, and the vegetables were nearly raw. All for the small price of $48.
Honestly a little underwhelming. It was incredibly busy so our wait for food was about 1h30m which is understandable. Some of the food we wanted, they had run out of. You could tell the servers were working hard. The gentleman who took care of us that night was interested in our travels and gave us some great recommendations but as a server, he was quite rude. He kept walking away in the middle of us talking and was very short with us. Not sure if he was the manager. Food was not worth the price.
The food was so delicious, flavourful and fresh! We highly recommend :)
Very disappointed with the Seafood carbonara the pasta was cold and dried out ( as if it had sat out too long) and the seafood portion was extremely disappointing, 2 scallops and 4 shrimp and a basic oil sauce. My partner had the fish tacos and they were tasteless Would have an extremely hard time to recommend the restaurant or even give them another chance.
We were there yesterday. The service was good but servers seemed a bit lost as to who they were serving so not sure the organization was fully there. No hostess but also not clear you had to seat yourself. Either way, not a huge deal and our waitress was great. Food I rate a 2 because I ordered lobster rolls, thinking theyd come ok a toasted french roll but they came on rocery store hotdog buns and were only half toasted. Not a huge deal but not worth 30$. Fries were good though. My husband had the summer steak, it was quite fatty. Overall, it was fine but could have been much better. They were out of a lot of stuff so Im thinking thats what also happened with the buns but Im.not sure.
Our server did a great job contending with the fact that this restaurant seemed to be completely out of food. We came for the halibut and oysters, and so the kids could have some dessert. When we arrived, we were told they were out of the halibut, octopus, and mussels. Instead, we ordered lobster bisque, fish cakes and oysters. The kids ordered bananas foster. Server returned repeatedly to let us know they were out of lobster bisque, then oysters, then BANANAS! Anyways, the kids ended up getting strawberry sponge cake that was grocery store quality, my husband got very disappointing fish cakes, and I chose not to order food since the things I had come for were not available. Instead I ordered a second drink, which I figured they would comp since they didn t have the meals we came for, but they did not. Meantime, a gentleman came and sat a table away from us, waited 25 minutes for service, then left when no servers came to his table. I think the seat yourself situation is a bit confusing and definitely makes it possible to overlook people. Overall, the food we did get was not great. Our server was wonderful and I felt SO bad for her having to deal with a kitchen that was out of so many items. We would not have come here if we d known half their menu was not available.
Okay so I tried there burned steak and it was really bad and cold the stuff wasn t that good we asked for a refill and the didn t listen to us
Okay so I tried there stake it was cold and it took 1 hour to coke the service was really bad
Great service, good haddock
Great experience in the outdoors
Perfect for the tourist who doesn t know any better. Sad excuse of a lobster roll for a seafood restaurant. You can get a better one, for less money, on the Grand Manan ferry. Grocery store hotdog bun. Spring mix. Spring mix?! Barely dressed. Came with a side of Costco Cavendish fries and, what I think was supposed to be coleslaw, but was just plain cabbage. Grannan s was probably the place to go in the 80s and 90s and they ve decided not to change a thing, to their detriment. I m not even mad about it, just disappointed. Almost forgot about the char cooked grilled cheese for the kids. Borderline burnt. If I can make a better one than a professional cook, that s a problem.
if low quality pub food is your thing go there. gone downhill owner must be no longer interested .one time tourists are probably keeping it going
One of my favourite spots in SJ. Food was good, service was prompt, only thing that could ve been better was the old fashioned, tough drink to master but I ll be back to try another. Would definitely recommend stopping in to check it out as the interior design is quite unique and pleasant. Ryan was great!
Group of us went in for supper Sat. Night. They accommodated us all upstairs, after some moving of tables & chairs, which didn t go over too well initially with the head waiter. Placed all our food orders then waited around an hour & a half before food started coming out. The food wasn t good at all. It was priced like premium restaurant food but fell short in taste & quality based on what everyone said later. The people who had the fish & chips all said it tasted like the frozen fish fillets you buy at the supermarket. People having the lobster rolls indicated they d had better elsewhere in close by eateries. The ambiance of the place was ok. It was pretty busy & I wondered how others were rating this place. I wouldn t go back myself. Much better food & you ll get your food much faster elsewhere, based on our experience.
Disappointing trip. We went as a group of 4, no one was pleased by their food. The portions and the quality both were shocking.
Great food and service will definitely be going back !!
Food and service were outstanding. Its one of the best meals we have had in St. John.
We had dinner there on Monday night while in St. John NB. We were so impressed with our meal that we stopped back and had lunch there today on our return from NS.
Yummy
Great food and service!
Ive been coming to Grannans since it opened almost 40 years ago. I always have tasty, fresh seafood and welcoming staff. The location and patio cant be beat.
This was our favourite restaurant in St. John during our stay.
Take your business to an establishment that wants it. They ended power hour 25 minutes early last night. I arrived 25 minutes before closing and was turned away in a rude manor by The face of grannans. Rude owner. Update: all the information I have provided was accurate. I and a few other gentleman were rudely turned away on our way to your power hour. You did in fact close early and I have witnesses that can attest to that. I was turned away by a short lady that said I am the face of grannans so you will have to excuse me for assuming she was the owner. If your owner is not at the location for those times then you clearly would not accurately be able to make that judgement and that is an fact a lie. Your business closed early and turned us away 25 minutes before power hour was supposed to end at. If you could provide me with the owners contact information or email me directly I would be more than happy to voice what happened.
I really love the food and atmosphere here, the menu items are original and well prepared.
Excellent place to go for delicious food and first rate personalized service. Great atmosphere and interesting decor. Highly recommended.
Never a bad meal, service was second to none, and a perfect intimate evening out.
We spent $430.00, it was not worth the price. The octopus was super rubbery. The homemade pasta was like eating fresh raw dough, it likely had been cooked for 1 minute. Unsatisfied customer.
The service from our server was awesome he was really nice so we made sure he got a good tip ..the food for what you pay is not so good ..veggies tasted like they were frozen and thrown in a pot of water ..and the potatoe spirals were cold and chewy .. wouldnt recommend .. unless youre just going for a drink oh and I forgot I only ate a small portion of my filet mignon as it had a terrible sauce and was not properly cooked
Hands down the best lobster rolls you will find in Saint John. I have eaten at least a dozen from different places around town. Parking: Parking garage at market square is best. Drive down toward the Hilton to find the entrance.
I really like Grannans! They have the traditional seafood fare with a unique take on things. Ive not had a bad meal from there. The building is so beautiful, and the servers are always friendly and attentive. Its a team atmosphere there and it comes across in the service. Definitely try the scallops wrapped in bacon and the Caesar salad...spicy!
Delicious seafood chowder with most awesome bread!
Great spot! A quick bite with the kids. Everything looked and was delicious. Love the decor, menu & kids loved it so thats always a big plus. Well be back Parking: Market Square, Saint John ...eh...parking is always a bugger. Kid-friendliness: Server was great accommodating my picky kids. Thank you
Price is high but was done quickly.
Very calm and relaxing nice to be around the peace quiet also it s right near the harbour downtown there s a place to sit when it s warmed up on the patio and places inside as well friendly servers. Written By: Liam Van Stone Service
While in town this spot became one of our go to spots. The food was fantastic, location is great. Service was generally pretty good too. Great spot for some local sea food.
Nice spot to grab some seafood lunch and a few pints!! Great food and atmosphere. Food
Grannans is a Saint John landmark restaurant. Has been around for a long time. I don t go often but while Christmas shopping went for lunch. The steak and fries was full of gristle with burnt potato wedges. The fish tacos consisted of approx 1/2 haddock fillet and you had to build your own tacos. Was not impressed. Not downtown a lot and will look for other options.
Great place to eat, would totally recommend for seafood!
Ordered fish and chips from there for the first time, fish was very dry! And I don t really like the crust that is on the outside disappointed
We had the lunch special. It was reasonably pricey and delicious. The service was great.
Took my daughter and her husband. I had the claims. Delicious. The boys enjoyed the beers. We shared the coffee donut dessert. Yumm. We will go back
The best seafood in St. John, the place is amazing and the staff very kind and lovely, y feel loved every time I come to Grannan s
Great food, amazing Salad! Shawn is the best!
Perfect spot for my lunch date to catch up with a friend. The lunch menu had many options and reasonable priced. I decided on the fish and chips, absolutely delicious. Hot and fresh with a good tartar sauce!
Went here as a party of 5 on my birthday. We ordered 3 seafood buckets and 1 seafood chowder. The chowder was delicious, probably the best thing on the table in my opinion. However, the seafood buckets. Oh boy. The mussels were incredibly sandy, almost as if they werent cleaned properly, I did not finish mine as 4/5 of the ones I ate had a lot of grit in them. The shrimp and corn were the best parts. Corn was sweet and juicy, shrimp were tender and big. Snow crab was dry and chewy, it did taste sweet though. The crawfish however. I asked for extra crawfish because I was expecting sweet, tender meat. What I got was overcooked, expired tasting crawfish. The last tail I tried to eat almost made me gag, it was incredibly foul. The potatos were well cooked but for some reason, they were ALSO sandy like the mussels. The thing that really put the cherry on the cake though, was that the melted butter to dip your seafood in was MARGARINE. I expect that when I go to a seafood place and pay $52 plus tax and tip, that the butter IS REAL. It was definitely margarine and ruined the taste of the seafood when dipped in. 2 stars instead of 1 because the seafood chowder was very good and our server was INCREDIBLY NICE!!!!!!! Ive read other reviews about this place supposedly going downhill and, although I have only been there once (and my last), I agree with this statement. I hope this helps when deciding where to get your seafood in Saint John.
3 stars cause the peach mojito was really tasty. The fish tacos were way overpriced!! Barely get anything with it. Was ok, but small piece of fish didnt even do the super small tortilla shells that came with it.
Great food!
We just landed in St John a few hours ago. My husband was excited to take me(his seafood lover) to an old business haunt from many years ago. It was a high end seafood restaurant that he loved. We decided to try a few appies the housemade ceasar salad was great..however, the scallops were over cooked to decimation (his words), the stuffed mushrooms were a hot mess (his words)that resembled poorly assembled nachos with grated Kraft cheese sprinkled on them, the white wine and garlic mussels lacked white wine and garlic and instead were bathed in a grey tasteless water . Giving it a two because the server was awesome and the salad was very good. No pictures taken
Great service, clean, and food is fresh and hot.
Really good food, bit pricey. Parking: Really surprised that EVERYWHERE in this city is paid parking :( Really discourages quick pop ins to shop :( Food : 5/5 | Service
This USED to be the place to go. However, thats not been the case for sometime. Ive been disappointed the last two times Ive eaten there - terrible batter, very greasy, chewy are how Id describe it. Many years ago it was far far better. Not sure what changed. Id save your money for a real seafood resto - of which there are a couple excellent options within a short walk.
Wonderful food. Great service. Relaxing atmosphere. I Always look forward to going back. Theyve been there for years and I hope they will remain there for many many more. Its great too that you can sit outside under the umbrellas in the Summer if you like and enjoy the breeze from the Bay of Fundy. Parking: Theres free street parking after 6pm I think and a closeby parking garage that you pay for but it might be free after hours. Im not 100% sure. Wheelchair accessibility: There are ramps inside the Mall area and outside.
The fish taco was good and the stuffed mushrooms excellent. The oysters could be better. The service was great.
Great food. Seafood platter was fantastic. Great location with great view of the harbour. Staff is super friendly. We were served by Joe who was great and gave us great travel tips and places to see in the area. Highly recommend and will definitely be going back next time we are in the area.
Joe, our host/server. Was amazing. We were passing through for our road trip. He gave us places to see, suggestions of restaurants on our travels. Very knowledgeable and friendly. Food was outstanding, by far one of our best experiences in our first 5 days of our adventure. Thank you to Joe for imparting your wisdom and making our evening great.
Had a piece of shrimp in my pop Service was meh Lobster roll was underwhelming to say the least. Stuffed mushrooms were ok but not very warm . Maybe it was because we were seated in the lower bar area???? I would not recommend
We stayed at the Hilton and walked down for a late dinner. Had the lobster dip, prime rib melt and fish n chips which were all excellent in their own right. Fantastic atmosphere. The late owner must have been a salt of the earth guy and the staff work hard. Joe the bartender is a legend. Knows the lay of the land and has wonderful stories and helpful advice for travellers.
Portiona are too small for the price
Waiting too long
Excellent meal!
Considering it is still around the lobster season, the lazy lobsters felt a bit overpriced. Some of the tables were unfortunately not as clean as they supposed to be. Aside from that, the overall experience was ok.
Reservation made for 7pm, Monday Aug 15th. Arrived a bit early and told immediately after being seated that the kitchen was backed up and we d be waiting a while for our meals once ordered. We ordered the Striploin (medium rare) and the Lazy Lobster dinners. About an hour later we received our meals. My wife soon reported to the server that her steak was well-done, and I never bothered reporting that I did not receive any of the roasted reds. My side with the lobster was 3 slices of carrot and 3 slices of pepper. When our bill arrived, the server mentioned that the steak (now $42) had been removed from the bill. And to our astonishment, my very small lobster meal (photo provided) was $110. Not a typo. Our bill for two drinks and the lobster meal was $154. There were no appetizers. If all of the meal was there, and didn t take an hour, I still wouldn t pay $110 dollars for a small lobster meal. This place does not have the ambience, service or view right now (waterfront completely under construction). The patio is now pea gravel. We chose Grannan s for dinner based on a referral from someone that had gone there a few years ago. After 2wks touring the Maritimes, this was the only meal where I found grossly overcharged, and we ate numerous expensive dinners while visiting. They have several neighbouring establishments and I d give them some consideration.
Really nice spot on the water, will be even lovelier when the work on the waterfront is finished. Food was great. Fish cakes tasted like home and the lobsters were shucked for us which was a great perk. Drinks were yummy and everything came quickly. I have a scallop allergy which sometimes can make things tricky but I left feeling amazing. Our server Justine was a DELIGHT. Absolutely loved her, she made our evening out wonderful!
Food was as expected.. service was great.. however we had added dinner guests. The quieter the restaurant got the more mice we saw running around.upon telling our server, the reply was yes the entire place has them, due to construction We were one of the last tables upstairs, we were hungry. Food was on the table and there was no compensation , which really surprised us. We thought they could have to reduced thr bill in some capacity, but nothing was done. Food for thought. If they ask can we get you anything else, I guess I shouldve said sure, another beer and a mouse trap please
Extremely good food, and we had an amazing waiter.
The food is fantastic.
Great service and friendly staff. I would recommend anything but the fish cakes. Food
Highly recommend the Seafood Chowder it was sooo delicious
We had a lobster roll and fish n chips. Having toured the Maritimes previously, none of the food here lived up to expectations. And it wasnt cheap.
We went for dinner and it was very good. We had the granny burger
Our family 4 people came from Moncton to have lunch in it in the noon, No clients in the nt, also no waitress treated us at the lobby, we waited for at least 10 mins, then a waitress lead us to the table. After another 30 mins, then came the dished we ordered , then the waitress disappeared, we want some vinegar, asked 5 times, no one was responded. When I stand up to try to find it, a man suddenly was in front of us, rudely shout out to me, what do you want , It is said he is the owner of the restaurant, so rude and ignorant, we are his customers, have lunch his restaurant, no the thief.
Michelle was the star of this dinner experience. We find Saint John a very difficult City to navigate in. My husband called the restaurant and we ended up speaking to Michelle. She was beyond kind to get us situated in the restaurant and then to give us directions to our next venue. I dont recommend the hoisin vegetable stir fry. My husband had the lobster roll and said it was okay. Whatever you do Grannans, dont lose Michelle as an employee!
Don t come here unless you like to eat with rodents. My dad sat on a dead mouse today and no apology from the manager, just the excuse of being by the water. Health needs to shut this place down.
Amazing chowder / Cesar salad with Homemade dressing / and banana fosters table side Food
We arrived in the city in the evening and arrived here looking for a place to eat. After being seated it took 15 min before a server came to take our orders. We ordered drinks and food at the same time given the long wait. Our food took another 45 minutes to come out. The server said there was a delay in the kitchen with my dish .which was nachos. I m not sure what kind of delay exists for nachos that would lead to a 45 minute wait. We never saw the server again until we had to flag him down to ask for our bill. The food itself was fine, but the service here incredibly disappointing. I wouldn t return. I m would try out one of the dozen of other options nearby with better reviews and hope for better service.
$28.00 for 2 I repeat 2 pieces of fish and chips. Way too expensive, I cussed my husband!
Grannans did renovations but certainly have not improved their food, I had the club sandwich the bun was tough and cold, chicken over cooked cheese like rubber lettuce was old terrible experience will not go back prices increased as the food got worse!!
Great food
Way too slow in the cold wind. Should open their second floor. The food is great though.
I just walked out of that place. RUDE greeter. I asked for a table inside after she suggested the bar (I was solo) . . . She acted aggravated. Although it s 8:30 pm on Canada Day, they weren t that busy (it s a slow night here anyway). I told her that I wouldn t occupy the table very long (that I knew what I wanted which was just an appetizer and tea). She responded, I ll have to find out who you re server will be first. Her tone and extreme delay in returning to my table provoked me to walk out . . . And I NEVER do that! I m very disappointed. I can t comment on the food . . . Hopefully it s much better than the help.
delicious food, fresh lobster, the barman has the warmest attention, he totally knows his job, he has a million stories to tell.
Great with taste
Charged me $110 for a lazy lobster and didnt even tell me the price beforehand. I ordered it during the Lobster season when lobster costs about $20 in the market. The person waiting my table acted like $110 was a normal price to pay for a lobster. And it didnt even taste good!
Very good but quite expensive
Excellent food. Came from Ontario, had the lobster roll, lobster boil, fish cakes, fish and chips, steak, burgers.
nice place. good location and great food. like everyone else, they re hurting for servers so be patient and kind. the server we had we clearly the best one in the place and he was running the floor like a conductor. good value for the money too.
Food was delicious and service was great
Fish tacos were amazing! Friendly staff and delicious food.
Came to Saint John for seafood, was beyond disappointed. We were greeted promptly and kindly, and the rest is downhill. Ordered the seafood tower ($75 - 1/2 a 1/2 lb lobster, 8 oysters, 1/2 a small crab, 5 poached shrimp and mussels) and lobster roll ($29). Portions were tiny, they forgot tools for the crab and basic items included on the plates. Presentation came as a tower with a healthy portion of cold dried out mussels, with the top having the 1/2 lobster, crab and oysters sitting in a water bath with minimal ice. The shrimp cocktail sat ok on too , the sauce was good, the shrimp were over cooked, like the rest of the meal. It smelled a little fishy... the oysters were sandy... as a whole, this was a fail... Lobster roll was shredded, had a stringy texture and the the bread was soggy. Depressing to eat... The winner of the meal, was the fries, which there were a small handful of on the plate and we had to ask for the gravy we ordered after the meal arrived, so they were cold by the time they could be enjoyed with the gravy... mixed drink didnt have ice, but the wine was nice... Service was terribly slow, but the waitress was nice and cheerful. Wouldnt recommend trying this spot, will never return.
An absolutely amazing experience. We didn t have a reservation but they easily accommodated our party of five during a busy hour. Our waiter was so kind, friendly and engaging. Every course of our meal was incredibly delicious and flavourful. Everything was so fresh and we truly enjoyed every last bite. I would definitely recommend if you re looking for a fresh meal and great atmosphere!
Good
Took forever for the food to get here and also openly talked poorly about their costumers in front of other people. would not recommend
Food took an hour and a half to come out, fried clams were overcooked and bland. My wifes steak sandwich was cold. Overall one of my worst restaurant experiences in a long time. Offered free drinks/dessert to compensate for the wait. It was bad enough we didnt want to wait any longer. Update: When my wife went to the bathroom before leaving witnessed the bartender making the hostess cry and telling her not to tell him how to do his job. Poorly run.
Was told it would be at least an hours wait which was fine as we werent in a hurry, was told there would be bread while we waited, never got it,when we did get our food it was ALL cold but my coleslaw was warm go figure. Waitress was great and apologetic. Will not be back or reccomend this place.
Ordered the fish and chips it was beyond amazing , the fish wasnt heavily battered and was cooked to perfection. we considered coming back the same day for supper after our delicious lunch but were too stuffed to eat any more!!
Atmosphere was great. Highly recommended by locals for seafood. We sat indoors which was nice but would have been equally happy with the cozy lit up outdoor dining if not for the rain. The service was verry slow but polite. Had to wait a long time to get our bill. Food was finished before someone came to refill our drinks. Too late. Music was nice and we liked the vibe of the place. The fish and chips were fresh. But no salt of flavour. Maybe forgotten? It tasted like white fish simply tossed in flour/bread crumb mix. Loved the French fries. (I usually don t like Fries) dinner for 2 with one drink cost close to $90
We waited over an hour and a half after ordering. No visit from the waitress, no apology and every time we tried to flag her down to ask what was going on with our order we were ignored. No excuse to know that one of the 2 plates remained full since the dish was tasteless, cold and did not conform to the order. Strongly not recommended.
Fish and chips were excellent. Decent sized portions. Kitchen was slow.
Went for dinner tonight (Wednesday), I tried the fish and chips with the bacon wrapped scallops. My boyfriend tried the oysters and then the fish tacos. Chips were very tasty, fish was decent size but fairly bland (kind of tasted like a large fish stick). Scallops were overdone. My boyfriend s tacos were apparently very tasty, but the oysters lacked in flavour. The waitress was very nice, wait time wasn t bad. Overall, a decent experience!
We ordered multiple different dishes and mine was the oysters. Everyone was absolutely happy and the service was also good but my oysters were too small for the price. As a Haligonian, Im spoiled by the oyster bars in Halifax :) Fish and chips, fries, burgers and the fish taco were amazing and the portions were fair enough for two! I highly recommend this restaurant to visitors.
Pretty disappointing experience. Food and drinks took much too long to arrive. Food was average at best. Dunno whats happened because this place came highly recommended...
Best fish taco in town!
It took 45 minute to get our food but it was worth every minute it was delicious just a bit above 100$ for 3 person so not bad and well worth it
Disgraceful and unprofessional. Stopped by for lunch. Restaurant. D6twas occupied maybe 1/4 the most. Ordered simple things like soup, coconut shrimps, lobster roll. We were waiting more than half hour. Food never was served. We didnt want to miss out our boat so we had to leave. I brought up this matter to the manager Mike and he was snooty and obnoxious with us. He said angrily to us - your food is ready (40 minutes for soup and shrimp? ) but you decided to leave. So not welcoming place. Instead of apology we got an attitude from manager! Waitress was nice. I dont understand what happened. Either she forgot to put in the order. Or kitchen messed it up. But we were left hungry and disappointed. We really were looking for lunch in this place because we were searching restaurants to visit on our trip and that one was #1. What a bummer.
Perfect food.
Such a friendly atmosphere, and the fish and chips were amazing! We were greeted like long time friends, even though it was our first time. The fish was absolutely delicious and the chips were perfect. Also highly recommend the special coffee
The clam chowder was uneatable, the lobster roll is minced and full of mayo so you have no idea of what you re eating, and the shaved steak sandwich consisted of what looked like 3 slices of deli meat. Service and bread were good!
Had a great snack of voconut shrimp and wings. Service was fast and friendly
I found the lobster to be more expensive then I expected but they said it s just market price so they don t even control it. The drinks were absolutely delicious.
Buck a Shuck was Awesome!
Great restaurant in the downtown Saint Johns area. As of 2022 fall the pier and boardwalk are being rebuilt . So dont expect a nice view at the patio . But great food and friendly staff ! Parking: Parking nearby Wheelchair accessibility: Yes
My wife and I had dinner here, female bartender rude, staff swearing at the tills and food was a fail for both my wife and I both plates arrived cold. Waited for a dessert to be told it was only prepared on a certain day, so she decided not to bring my coffee There are so many great restaurants in Saint John, I advise to pass on this one
Our waiter was a first class A1 true professional. This man handled getting slammed by walk ins without missing a beat . Inspirational!! The food was so fresh and tasty I want to try more items . Just simply amazing. I m so happy I got my fresh clams .
Great service and food
Great place with great brews. Good food and excellent service!
This has the best seafood and atmosphere in St. John. I would definitely go here again.
Great lobster roll with a beer, thank you
Fish n chips was fresh, prompt service and their house lager was very good
It was a cozy place with dast and friendly service. I recommend the seafood chowder and Moosehead Radler tap beer.
Great lobster rolls and local lagers! Staff charming. Accommodated our request for an out of the way table (COVID). Lots of atmosphere at this waterfront restaurant.
Terribly expensive lobster compared to market prices... fish & chips not as good as other places. It was good without being exceptional.
it was a good dining experience! food was fairly good but the service and ambience are amazing
Friendly Service, Tasty Fresh Seafood, Nice Beer. Can eat downstairs in the bar if you want to be away from people.. great!
This restaurant has great food and good service from the staff. Food can be a bit pricey, but its worth it. Its a great location for gatherings or family meals. I would highly recommend this restaurant especially to anyone visiting town. Have never been disappointed here.
Went there for Chop Chop and it was alright. I had the steak which was kinda thin cut and the vegetables were very plain. No accompanying sauce for the steak, either. I LOVED the potato that was with the steak. Was layered potatoes that were so crispy and delish. The server called them lasagna potatoes? The atmosphere is very tired looking. Not a place to take execs or people to impress. Hopefully it will improve?
First time there. But could tell staff was very experienced and food was awesome. Good job
All 3 dishes were cooked and served perfectly we had Fish Tacos, Coconut Prawns and Blueberry Salad. Ate on the patio on a sunny day can beat it.
Four couples and not one of us enjoyed our meal! Second time at Grannans first time horrible, thought we would try it again as the people we were dining with suggested it. I ordered Caesar salad with chicken my husband had a pasta chicken dish. Chicken was disgusting old, cold and precooked like an old shoe. Not one person at the table enjoyed their meal. There definitely won t be a third time. Seriously with the competition here in Saint John Grannans needs to close its doors.
Went to dinner at Grannans on Friday, July 30. Fantastic! Server David was super, food was delicious, all was outstanding. I have not been here is years as we always took friends and family to another up town seafood restaurant but not anymore! We will be back real soon!!
Love the food friendly
And everybody was so concerned about the restaurants? Had dinner here. Think they are catching up on what hey missed out on. Slow service... expensive.... and too we had a table at the back of the dinning... a little bit like being in a closet. Wow... Im going back to takeout.
Went with my family (all adults) at around 10 pm on Friday night . The ambience was nice but that s really about it The server was nice but the food took ages to come , probably an hour or more in total from when we sat to when we received our food. Out of the 8 dishes we ordered 1 was good (cheese cake) , 2 were meh ( 1 summer steak, coconut shrimp) and remainder was awful (fish and chips , the two philly steak sandwiches , and the other summer steak) . The awful food just didn t have any taste, it was like eating cardboard . For this price point , I would give this place a 1/5 . The only reason I am giving it a 2 is because of the ambience and live music outside . I should ve looked at the other reviews before going in , they were spot on . Slow service and very overpriced food
The seafood bucket and lobster filled mushrooms were really great! Blueberry cheesecake was also really good. Service is excellent!
Joe and Johnny were outstanding. Honestly had a wonderful conversation and sampling of their amazing product. Cant wait to come back. Great job gentlemen, above and beyond
Food was great, Service was great
Dont go there. We just ordered lunch menus and had to wait an hour for our food (while it wasnt even busy) and you saw they didnt do much effort in it. The lunch menu was an appetizer for a child, the grilled chicken a tasteless cardboard and the vegetables were tasteless. 1 star for the location and the friendly service tough
Service was super friendly and accommodating. Very dog friendly on the patio. Drinks were great, but food was clearly not made from scratch.
Wouldnt go again. Stale food. No turnover
ordered the seafood bucket which was great the stuffed mushrooms also great chicken sandwich was a bit over cooked scallops were way over cooked lobster roll was a bit too much bun but the filling was delish
3 staff walked by our family before someone acknowledged us at the door. Server was pleasant however food is overpriced and and service under delivered for what you pay.
Horrible service waiter was a duche to everyone served cold clam chowder fish with no tartar sauce just down right disappointing it was supposed to be great at one point not anymore
Great food and atmosphere. Love eating here outside right on the water. Clams were wonderful as was everything else the table had. Will definitely be back!
nice place, they have restaurant upstairs and bar downstairs. For restaurant, reservation is required. It is a pretty big place and it was very busy on Sat night when I was there. It took too long for the food to come. Otherwise, the food was tasty, decor is nice and location is right on the water. Service was nothing special, but again, probably they were too busy on that night.
Great food. Service a little slow but nice evening
Stopped by Friday just after 3pm. We had the Shuck a buck Oysters (3-6 pm) and the fish tacos. The tacos were excellent and a bit messy. Thanks Alice for being a great waitress! We sat out on the patio. Would definitely come back.
Fantastic lobster. We went for the lazy lobster and it was a treat. Nice service as well.
I had the best fish and chips ever!!! Great service and nice atmosphere. Wish I didnt live two hours away.
Beauty little spot with kick a$$ fish tacos!
We loved our food. I had haddock and blueberry salad (I absolutely loved the blueberry salad). My husband had the lobster roll and mashed potatoes and he really enjoyed those too.
Fresh delicious food, melting in your mouth. I felt transformed by the flavours. Also sea bucket is a great fun.
Delicious food, great customer service, nice patio located near the water. The mussels are amazing! Good lobster roll as well. Delicious fish and chips too.
Great food
While the service was slightly slow the night we were there its excusable considering how pleasant our server was. Last time I ate here it was during Saint Johns great Chop Chop week. Their plate was creative and well executed. Some places aim too high and fail but the blackened cod and ice cream churros were perfect. Given some other experiences Ive had at boardwalk restaurants lately I think this may be the go to now.
I would tear off it even if I become a winner of gift coupon of this restaurant at a Sea Dogs hockey game because I dont want to go there neither my friends . The vegetables withered and the fries were cold and the portion was as small as a kids menu, which made me to doubt that the food might be reused. On top of that, the manager (or owner) in his 60s was brutal as well as the young waitress didnt know what she was doing even though she was kind. Tourists, be aware that locals dont go this place twice. (I talked with some of my friends living there long time about this restaurant) You will be ripped off with poor food at much higher price with very small portion. Walk uphill just 50 meters and you will find lots of restaurants and bars at better price with reasonable portion. If you dont want to talk, just stay away from this one. What I felt when coming out after paying fifty something dollars for quick but long-waiting lunch for two people was hunger and rage. My impression after my first and last visit was that this place had been run by dishonest beings, which is shame.
Staff was friendly and food was awesome
Great food and awesome atmosphere. One of my favorite places to go when I visit Saint John.
Fantastic food and service!
Got takeout here, my fiancee wanted crab and this was the only place I could find. I shared the meal with her, it was likely the best seafood Ive ever had, with mussels, clams and crawfish. And the crab was delectable. That sauce is unreal! 10/10 and a very satisfied fiancee! Turned a bad day into a good one, I guess money can buy happiness!
This is a really nice spot to relax on a date or work meetings, really good food and awesome customer service.
Great food, great portions and great staff! Service has always been timely, the food has always been good and have always had the right portions no matter the time of day. Also love their lunch specials!
Excellent food and service. Highly recommend this place
