Seriously Rockin Fried Chicken and Poutine
Nothing to review. Twice I have gone to the place in the space of 1 month. Both times I was told they don't have bone in chicken so I elected not to order.
LITERALLY THE BEST CHICKEN EVER!! workers are super kind! And the manager is the sweetest person ever! the prices are amazing!!!
This was our first time successfully being able to get chicken from Barred Rock Chicken. We called a few months ago about 1 1/2 hours before closing and asked to place an order for pickup. They said I’m sorry we can’t do a 18 piece bucket meal this close to close. We were surprised at the statement & disappointed. We tried again tonight. I called ahead and the male employee answered and I said I would like to place an order for pickup. He didn’t say anything else , and I chalked it up to a bad connection. I hung up and called back twice, no answer. So I drove in from Quispamsis. I get there and ask for the same thing and he said I can’t, I can only do 9 pieces. It takes 1 hour to dredge the chicken he said. I said really? He said I have 9 ready and I can drop that and it will be about 15 min. I said but I need 18. He then said it will take me 10 to bread it and 15 more to cook it so it will be closer to 45 min( interesting not an hour just to dredge like he said before.) It is very obvious that the staff do not want to do anything after about 1 1/2 hours before close. There were no other customers and it’s not that they are too busy. Having worked at a restaurant that cooked fried chicken it doesn’t take a hour for chicken. Once we received the chicken, we went home and served our family. I was so disappointed when everyone said that it was terrible. Greasy, no flavour except for a bit of heat. Not crispy like fried chicken and so much to the point we actually took off the skin it was so soggy. It also was very dark and had the flavour of old oil. The chicken itself had no seasoning or flavour. The fries were ok but not fresh( after waiting 55 min for the fresh chicken). The gravy is a package and not very good, the best part of the meal was the coleslaw. We have been to other restaurants owned by this owner and we loved them so we were very sad at this experience. I can’t recommend this to anyone and say that we ended up throwing away the chicken and gravy is sad after spending $65.00.
Jesse, I’ve been a fan of your food for years man, going to the Ale House with family as a kid is what got me into high end cooking. For most of my life, going out to eat at a place that had your name on it, was a guarantee you were going to have a delicious meal. Those days are no longer. We’ve been disappointed the last 3 times we went to the ale house, I refused to accept that quality was slipping and chalked it up to bad luck as I love that restaurant more than I can describe. Then we go to Barred Rock for lunch. Saturday 1:30, only one customer ahead of us who was clearly upset, told the staff he now needs his order to go and not for here. Placed our order, told it would be a 5 minute wait, turned out to be 20, no big deal. I saw 3 customers wait and leave during that time as no one was coming out to serve them. We finally get the food. I ordered the chicken tenders. The chicken was the most disgusting food I’ve been served in my life, hands down. The breading was complete mush, dripping oil, felt like wet paper towel, and the chicken was rubber. The courage our stupidity it must take one human being to serve that to another and expect no complaints is something I genuinely cannot understand. It was the only time in my life I contemplated asking for my money back, and if the staff member working the cash wasn’t so cranky and hostile from the jump, I would have. Jesse, I don’t say any of this to attack you, I’m only asking for you to please bring back the quality of food you’ve made customers expect from your name. I understand everyone gets complacent, but quality is drastically slipping. Please, for those of us who look forward to going to your restaurants on our rare and hard earned nights out, show us why you’re the best chef in Saint John.
I visited Barred Rock after asking about a good place to eat poutine. The poutine here was very tasty, and there are a few ways to customize it. I thought the gravy was a bit thin, but the flavor was quite savory regardless. Service was on the slower side but very friendly. (I believe they were understaffed that day.) it was also a popular place to eat, as I saw many others line up to order while waiting on line. If you’re in the mall looking for a place to order poutine, you can get a good-sized serving of it here. It’s big enough to share with at least two people!
Honestly, really good well priced food - we had two pulled pork sandwiches, poutine, and coleslaw. For the price and speed, was really good, especially the pulled pork. The poutine could have been a tad bit better - crispier fries, and a little less watery gravy.
Staff were extremely nice. We had a large chicken poutine. It was lots for 2 people to share. It was good, I prefer a thicker gravy. This one felt a bit watered down. Price was $19.00 for the poutine and 2 pop.
This is hands down the best chicken I have ever had. Their chicken sandwich is amazing. It's huge and is made with multiple pieces of delectable fried chicken that just falls apart as you eat it. The pickle is something that I would never think about on a chicken sandwich but it works so well here. Their fries are fresh and hand made and the meal comes with a ton of them. Prepare for a feast because this meal will fill you up.
great food record alice
Great place and great service
Amazing food and service
So tasty
I think that the place is cute and stuff and the food is pretty good but could do some work but the staff seems like there all over the place and for a while there wasn t any one at the cashier for at least 20 minutes and they said it would be done in 5 minutes but that turned into a 23 minute wait
So Good!!!
Today I got come in and order pulled pork sandwiches and they so very juicy and sweet, taste like every smooth! It crazy cheap that I buy cost me $15 and feel filled in my belly lol! I give you 5 star and customer are nice and friendly! Next time I will come again and it first time I tried ever!
Soggy overly salty poutine. Shocked that it was rated so high. Very disappointed.
Four dill holes putted around our back while I waited for someone to take my order. After nearly 7 minutes someone took my order. After another 25 min or so there was no food ready. So I asked for my money back. They gave it back begrudgingly and tried to keep the tip. After further arguing they gave me a full refund. Incapable staff. Avoid.
Chicken went from a great price of $5 in a medium sized box and pretty good quality to $7 for a small paper bag with very little food and raw chicken.
Stood in line for 10 minutes and no workers came out to take orders. I ended up leaving and gave my business to someone else.
Best poutine in town!!
Friendly staff!! Good food Poutine needs more Curds but delicious either way
Tried their buttermilk chicken sandwich meal and was blown away,so much value for 14$ and the chicken has just the right crispness and flavor, fries are a big W compared to other restaurants fries. Other restaurants should strive to find servers like Jacey, she was incredibly polite and professional all the while 10/10 would try again, officially my new chicken go to
Best fried chicken Ive ever had and Im from the southern US!
Great service great food
Stale chicken and dried out pull pork
Food is terrible, meat was dried out doesn t look like the pictures
Staled chicken, dried and soggy, the photo owner put in the picture is fake, not the actual burger
The best poutine youre gonna find outside of Quebec. Amazing
The chicken sandwich transported me into a different dimension and was a life changing experience. Certified B U S S I N 10/10
The best poutine in town, imo
Food is excellent! I had the chicken tenders. Great seasoning, crunch, and portion.3 large pieces served hot and fast.
Had the buttermilk chicken & poutine. Really big meal which is always great. Fries were really good but soggy (probably because it was delivery though) gravy was quite salty but thats personal preference, chicken was great.
Chicken was really good, like some best Ive ever had. The fries in the poutine I had though were pretty hard, but the chicken made it worth it.
Fried chicken and pulled pork sandwich... It was good to satisfy my appetite...
Very delicious
Ordered a poutine but the fries and cheese were swimming in gravy. I like extra gravy like the next person but this was more like soup. Couldnt enjoy it like you should with a poutine.
Putin life
The chicken is soooo good here!! Also their poutine is great! The staff seem to have a genuine sense of ownership of the quality of service and product they are delivering. Would highly recommend!
Food was ok. Given there arent many choices around, it will do.
Never had chicken so good
Best poutine around, and for a great price!
Poutine sauce is not the best but dollar fries in the mall? HELL YEAH
Delicious!
Surprise meal of the week here in Saint John. We normally avoid food courts but were in a rush and needed a meal. I ordered the chicken sandwich with fries and it was amazing. The chicken breading had a faint taste of cumin, and the combination with thinly sliced pickle, lettuce, and sauce was excellent. The fries were fresh and hot.
Love the chicken and the poutines. Very tasty
Made a point to pop by for the Nashville Burger for Chop Chop. A delicious take on Nashville Hot Chicken! Staff was friendly and the meal was delicious!
Yummy
Best poutine in the city and its not even close.
The menu is delicious, top to bottom! My faves are the chicken sandwich and the chicken poutine.
Best chicken sandwich I ve ever eaten. And it s not close. Fresh cheese curds and poutine sauce make the poutine a must try. Love the new snack menu!
Best poutine EVER. So glad that they have large take out meals. With kid sports, I don t have much time these days. And the fried chicken is FRESH and delicious!
love the poutine with chicken. the hand cut fries make it even better!
The pulled pork slider tasted very good , poutine was delicious with large portions. Will return for chicken soon !
Try their chicken, you wont regret it
Mediocre for the price. Recently ordered a fried chicken sandwich and one of their $7 wraps. The wrap seems like a hodgepodge of ingredients left over from both them and their sister restaurant, Toro Taco and was pretty underhelming, especially given the price for a pre-made refrigerated wrap. The chicken sandwich was almost good, but they went REALLY heavy on both the special sauce and on the batter, and lead to a sandwich that was not only sloppy and unwieldy, but was so overpoweringly savory that it was pretty un-enjoyable. Mix that with the $10 price tag for the burger alone and I dont think Ill be coming back any time soon. Consumers could do worse, but for the price they can also do way better.
The snack menu is the best value going. The chicken tenders are delicious and clearly housemade, and the pulled pork sandwich is awesome. So much food for the price! Poutine is the best around town.
We were in St John for the day and were near the market so we stopped in. Looking for a quick lunch as we didnt want to do a sit down restaurant we got a 5 pc chicken here. The chicken was very crispy and flavourful. If we were closer this would perhaps become my go to friend chicken joint. Its nothing like the mass produced chicken chains and has a great flavour with juicy chicken inside. Well done. The home made chips and sides were a nice addition too.
Delicious chicken and French fries!
