This resteraunt has serious cleanliness issues with the cook. Cooking food while scratching head and picking face while standing over food, then he wipes his nose with hand. Made me sick. I told he he should be wearing gloves and shouldn't be doing what he is doing. I was disgusted. I threw out the food. I hope there is another place in saint john that makes pad thai. Sad because I love the recipe from this resterant but I can't go back. My grandson will be very disappointed because he loves this food and I come here to get it. I wish people who cook in resterants understood how important cleanliness is! This place in particular has very serious issues! The price is also getting very high at 18.00 for the dish.
I have eaten at many Thai Noodle Expresses all over Canada, and this particular location seems to struggle. It’s a shame, because it situated in a good location in Saint John’s East end, but seems to just be broken. Normally I wouldn’t write a bad review after one bad experience, but this is the second time I’ve tried to order from this location (with a lot of time in between visits) and they didn’t have a lot of the menu items available, which wasn’t a reflection of being sold-out either, otherwise it would be more understandable. This time I went in to order takeout and their display board menu was broken and sideways so you could not read it. The person working at the counter was good enough to tell me to scan the QR code to get the menu. When I was ready to make my order everything I tried to order wasn’t available, and no longer offered. It would’ve been nice if he had mentioned that the menu wasn’t up-to-date when scanning the QR menu. Honestly, every item I tried to order they didn’t have. I left empty-handed and frustrated. The person at the counter seemed to be embarrassed, and it wasn’t necessarily his fault, but I just found it to be overall very unprofessional and I think whoever runs this location need to do a better job overall, and be better prepared to serve their. customers.
We just ordered the pad Thai, vegan and received the food without tofu. Tofu is written on the menu as one of the ingredients that comes with the pad Thai. We asked, and the staff said that management said that they cannot add tofu unless the customer asks specifically for the tofu. What an odd way to do business. Also, for two piles of soupy noodles with some veg, and two drinks we paid almost 37 bucks. Avoid this place.
I have been here for couple times and I have to say it is the best Thai food restaurant here. Every time we ordered beef fried rice and beef fried noodle. Perfect taste and excellent service. Boys here are so nice to customers 5/5
Much like how the weather can sometimes get in Saint John, this place was cold, dark and soggy. Very disappointed in the dine in experience today at Thai Express Saint John east. Not only were the staff less than friendly, the actual temperature inside the restaurant was cool (we had to keep our jackets on). General Thai chicken very soggy and salty. Same with Phad Thai. Seems like too much sauce is being used in the prep. Soft drink machine out of service. One washroom out of service. One of the front doors appears broken. Dimly lit in the kitchen area. If you are looking for a restaurant on the downhill slide, this is the place for you. You can almost hear whispers of "can't be bothered" if you listen closely enough.
The best thing about this place is the decor. The food was bland and tasted as if it had been sitting a while, each dish came separately as well. Did not finish our meal or appetizers, and will not return.
A little bit pricey. But the quality of the ingredients are reflected in the price. I like to go here because the cooks don't seem to put too much sauce that overpowers the other flavors in the dish. I would recommend this place if you're looking to have a nice meal. Expect to pay around 10 to $15 per person.
Just finished my Pad Thai Soup. It was amazing! The portion size was huge, no complaints there. I couldn't say anything but great food with great prices. I'm looking forward to trying General Thai Chicken next time I stop in. UPDATE: I have been visiting this location 3-5 times a week since my original review. The quality of the food is consistent everytime I visit. I usually get the Thai Mini Chicken Soup and it's more than enough for a lunch. Combo it with an Imperial Roll and that's $8. A healthy lunch for $8, I'll take it! Another favorite of mine is the Ginger Chicken Stir Fry (I don't add spice because it takes away from the Ginger flavor imo). UPDATE 2: Years later and we still visit a few times a month since moving further away. Still ordering the same ginger chicken stir fry and love it every time.
Food was good, the staff were good, but the place needs a deep clean in the lobby.
They close early, employees dont follow posted store hours. Edit: Im back again after 9 months, they are closed half an hour after their posted opening time. They havent improved at all.
The food quality is acceptably par level, but the service is beyond my expectation - the staff is not friendly and just like robot waiting and intend to gain more money from the transaction. The surroundings of the dining is so lousy - dirt all around Parking: Small limited space available for customers
Skip This One Too. Lol. Sigh, It Was A Bad Food Day.
Ordered a chicken pad Thai and there was not a single piece of chicken or tofu in it! Not worth $16.50 for a bowl of spicy noodles and no protein. Quite disappointed
Nasty over sauced not even close to authentic pad thai
Food is always good. Service was OK, but the restaurant looked awful. Out of order signs everywhere, dirty, the bathroom smelled horrible.
The food was delicious. But the place needs a little TLC. The workers didn t go over the top, but they did sit up as soon as we came to the counter. And the area was okay. But could definitely use a good deep cleaning. Especially the bathroom. Overall, 3/5 cause I can see the potential it has. They just need a little more initiative.
1 star due to the rude staff who was so sarcastic after asking a simple question. Food was really mediocre for the price. It really felt like customers were unwanted there. Do better!
Food is great, zero complaints there. Usually the service is quick and fine, the few times I have been there. Today, however, I went on my lunch break (I work in the same building) and there were two people ahead of me whose orders were messed up (one was a pick up so should have already been finished but had to be fixed) so bad I didnt have time to order and receive my food before my break was over, so I had to just leave without ordering. The two workers didnt seem to know at all what was going on and seemed very confused. Very disappointed because I really enjoy the food.
The guy at the counter who took my order was super rude. I have been to numerous Thai restaurants. The pad thai I had at this location was by far the worst. Fried rice was mediocre at best. I should have looked at the previous reviews but i had already ordered and paid.
friendly staff strongly recommend pad thai.
Mmm...Shrimp stir fry with peanut flavor medium spicy...mmm
Good hot food
Always friendly and quick service with amazing food!
Really enjoyed the food. GF and V options. Very good portion for what you pay.
Great store, friendly staff and they got much better at accommodating allergies.
Service is terrible. On our visit there was no beef, no mango, no peanuts... No Thai then.
the food is great
Terrible and dirty Never again!
Good food fast service friendly staff.
Dirty unfriendly and poor quality. Nothing like other Thai Express locations.
The staff hasn t professionalism. Rude. Forced customer to do take away only without having closing time. Payment issues. No recommendation to this location. Never
Food was ok, expected better. The fried rice was tasted funny especially when it cooled off.
1st time eating Thai..we had take out.. throughly enjoyed what I had...The other 3 had no complaints either. It was a Birthday treat from daughter.
I just ordered four meals, to go, from the Westmoreland location and am extremely dissatisfied with the food and service. This was a special occasion and this experience soured the event. My food was made incorrectly according to your menu and my previous experiences. I attempted to call to have this corrected but because it was close to closing (30 minutes before) my first two calls were not answered-- they went to your voicemail box which is full... I attempted calling two more time (four calls in total) and was hung up on the third and fourth time. My spouse, who made the order and picked up the food, went back to asked for a refund or some compensation and the employees not only called him a liar (regarding my meal being made incorrectly and me being hung up on) they refused to acknowledge their mistake and told him that they will not do anything for us and that they were closed (according to your hours he wasnt there after closing). This type of service is unacceptable. This experience could have gone a completely different way but because of the poor service, out right dismissal/ denial of their mistakes and the refusal to correct it, I will no longer be returning and will be advising other to avoid ordering here as well.
Good thing we were taking out as the restaurant had a smoky smell. Food was awesome, and they have really neat takeout bowls they are using now.
It was difficult to communicate with staff so ended up only ordering Surf and Turf, for my husband. He said it tasted like wallpaper paste with very few peices of steak and shrimp. We offered it to our dog and he would have no part of it. Even the steak separated out he would not eat.
I ordered the general beef Thai and the meat tastes like it came out of the microwave veggies the same. Barely ate any cause it seems like if I would eat any more I might get sick from it. I have had this dish from other Thai express and never is like this. The kid running the cash looks like he hates life cant stand up without leaning on something. Thai express should reconsider who is running this location.
Loved it!! Great service, great food
Yummy Noodles!
Ive been there every week for 2 years, and I can say without hesitation Ive had most positive experience each visit. Best tasting dishes among Thai Express in Canada (believe me, Ive been to many other Thai Express places in other major cities). I would go back any day!
Great food good price amazing staff.
Actually quite good for a fast food chain. They really took their time making the food but cant fault them for that. The person waiting in line after me may give a worse review though...
It was great
If I could give it 0 stars I would, just picked up a general Thai Chicken, ended up with sweet and sour chicken with not a bit of spice and no peppers, but it sure did have onions, one piece was a solid quarter onion.
I would definitely recommend this location. Place is clean, the staff is super friendly and man oh man can the cook. When I paved McCallister Drive I ate there 2 days in a row and both days were a 10/10 tasty experience.
Awesome food great customer service loved it
what s up with ur customer service ?? we ordered 5 meals and u gave us 2 utensils. the two guys know well that we were 5 people. we kept asking for more 3 utensils but u keep telling us that the two spoons were enough for FIVE PEOPLE ?? what are we supposed to use to eat our food ? do u expect us to eat the NOODLES with our hands ?? YOU VE GOTTA BE KIDDING ME. plus theres only two people in there and they were both cooking at the same time, u should have one another person to prioritize the customers. i am getting secondhand embarrassment for u guys. i hope u see this feedback because u guys lost my respect.
Best Thai in town!
Love how the food is cooked fresh and in front of you. Food is always good.
Called 3 or 4 times to place an order and hot nothing but hang ups. Got a pizza!
Our first experience at a Thai express and boy was it memorable, in a bad way. We picked out what we wanted from the website and headed in. We were informed that they didnt have one of the dishes we chose and questioned where we got the info from. I showed them the website and they shrugged and said they dont have it. So fine we picked something else. Being Sunday we chose the fried rice special but I guess we didnt order it right because they just gave us the rice not the Sunday combo specially. To which I was informed that it costs extra. No worries. I will pay the difference. That didnt go over well. Staff was quite snarky. :/ This soupy sloppy mess was supposed to be pad Thai but it tasted like they poured a bottle of sweet and sour bbq sauce out of the bottle onto the plate :( The Thai soup was water with zero flavor. I wish I was exaggerating... like litter water. Fried rice was ok. They didnt give us enough utensils to eat with and disappeared into the back. We waited and called but no one came. so that was fun.
Love it! Made in front of you, nice and hot, delicious!
I being here before and it was alright , but today I was very disappointed . The Tomyum soup that I ordered was overly sweet and not tangy at all, looked like it was made from readymade packet. I asked in the counter for a piece of lemon but the gentleman said they dont have any lemon( a Thai restaurant without lemon ! ! ) , I asked how you guys make it tangy then . He said it made by his boss. The fried rice was blunt and overly spicy. Looks like they stop caring about the food. Definitely not coming back.
Excellent food. A little pricey for just eating a quick lunch BUT you do get a lot of food. $12 meal will easily last you two meals.
Delicious Thai food with great service
Food is good for the people who love thai cuisine, surprisingly very good portion size and decent prices. Lot of variety in the menu as well.
Love it
Dont listen to the karen(jenny morang) on here she is clearly an idiot and has no taste. The food is good and worth while.
Unbelievable food great quality and reasonable pricing .5 star all the way.
Stood inside for almost 10 minutes and not one person came out to acknowledge the line. Yelled for someone multiple times and even tried calling their phone and no one came out, they just let it ring. About 2 minutes after that someone wanders out in no rush at all and there was no apology for the wait or anything. Terrible service.
The servers barely speak English, but are nice ppl. I just wish they served sushi or even yeast noodles like smaller Thai express have.
Friendly staff, good food and the place itself has a relaxing atmosphere. I come here every now and then and wish I could come even more
Great
Super delicious
Service was ok, given the challenging times were in Ill give grace. Food for me was 6/10
The service was fine and the price was good but I was so disappointed in the quality of the food that I can only give them 2 stars. I felt short-changed with the quantity of chicken in the sauce and I found that the rice tasted old. Will not return.
Clean friendly fast and yummy
Delicious
Enjoyable experience. Fresh food prepared nicely. Friendly quick service. Good selection. Reasonable prices. Very clean premises with physical distancing measures in place. Definitely recommend!
Food was great! Quick service... Got to watch them make our food right in front of us.
Recently had an occasion to purchase 2 Thai Fried Rice meals - one with no spice and 1 with med spice. The restaurant was not busy and it took us quite awhile to get our food and upon receipt of same I was handed 1 extra spicy and I told the man that I ordered med spice and he shoved it my way anyhow (not sure if he understood english?) - I tried to eat it but it was way too spicy and very little chicken. This is the 1st time that I have tried this location and was needless to say - not satisfied. I have eaten at other locations and food was always great - very disappointed
Pad Thai is always delicious and the service is quick. A one spot for quick and affordable Thai food.
Ok food, but one of the slowest and worst service ever (compared to their other locations).
Generally good food, prepared realtively quickly. With that said, I visit this location about once per month, and on two recent visits have found the chicken to be tough and chewy - a she, because service at this location is top notch normally.
So delicious. VEGAN options!
I really enjoy the taste of the food but the problem for me is that the size of the meat portions in the general chicken and beef, they are way too big and every bite I take it is full of fat and incredibly hard to chew(not exaggerating, literally every bite). The fried dumplings are amazing though, so whoever makes those gets a 5 star from me.
Best place to eat in all of Saint John, the Thai soup is amazing and no matter what you get you will always leave full. Definitely a good place to get your moneys worth. Staff is very friendly and helpful as well.
Always delish
One of the nicer Thai Expresses Ive been to, Im more used to the food court one in Halifax. Partner got chicken fried rice and it was a huge serving. I got a vegan basil stir fry. The crispy basil pieces are great. Their plastic utensils (especially forks) are a nightmare to use. You can now replace your rice with cauliflower rice if youre carb conscious
Great place !! You gotta try it !
The food Quality in this location is not as good as the other one :(
Good Subs
Always great
Above average Thai fast food.
Very fast! And so yummy
Its good only thing is its always cold in there and two people cant get a meal together at same time one gets Theirs and 10 minutes later the other gets theirs cause there isnt enough staff
Great spot they have out east, if I wasnt working I would have loved to eat out on their patio area. Great flavors and portion size too. I love the options available to me.
Great food quick service
Food was a bit sweeter than other locations but was fine. There was also a mix up when we ordered here and our food was given to someone else so we had to wait for them to make it over again.
Great tasting food! Beautiful decor
Great food!!
Good spot for a quick fix of some fresh food. Open wok allows for nice visuals ok occasional flames and watching your food be cooked. Only downside is that the spice levels can be inconsistent depending on who is cooking your meal. Other than that, good food and fair prices for the size of the portions.
Tasty, fast, nice staff! And portions big enough to get leftovers
The food was amazing!
pag thai is not good...too much sauce and salty
It ok
Had chicken stirfry and my wife had yellow chicken curry. Both were prepared fast and both were delicious! I reccomend this place for eat in or take out. Daye night or lunch and dinner. Just as good as on of their sister franchises in Pearson Airport where I always got the Pad Thai!
Fried rice was delicious and quantity was very good.
Good price, quick, fresh ingredients, tasty!
It was the worst Thai Curry I ve ever had!
Beautiful spot, surprisingly nice decor. I think it really beats fast food options for the area and I highly recommend it. Service went above and beyond to handle an unusual rush of people and we were very impressed by the professionalism of whom I presume to be the owner or manager. Meal was awesome, dessert was a fried banana and it was fun. Forget that burger option and grab something real.
Greasy
My wife and I had supper here; Service was reasonably quick, good portion size, but both of our dishes were bland. For a dish and a drink, it is about $15 a person, I felt it was not good value given the lacklustre food.
Food was fresh and amazinggg. Shrimp pad Thai yum-yum.
Food is really good and the staff is great... For the most part. Ive gone twice so far and Ive had to wait for service in an empty restaurant because a staff member was too busy playing with their phone. After inturpting them and asking for service, was treated like an inconvenience. BUT thats just one person. Mind you the food is fantastic.
Good food!
Fantastic food....very quick service
Very good food.
Delicious food. The east end location is beautifully furnished and has a great atmosphere. I always go for the Pad See Ew with beef. The portion of beef and noodles is generous, and tastes heavenly with a sprinkling of peanuts, fish sauce, and lime -- All of which are free at the condiment station.
The food was excellent. Adequate portion for your buck and tasty.
Enjoyed the non-vegetarian options that they had.
Lunch today...slow service..clumpy rice...under cooked
Awesome!
Good food, good prices, nice people, class act. only one thing I would mention if I was being picky. Would rather not eat with plastic forks. Over all great place.
The food has gotten better since opening. Will go again.
Nice ambiance and very expensive
My husband and I have tried the place twice, both times we were disappointed. The seating area is nicely decorated and is overall well maintained. The bathrooms are acceptable, though theyve got unused equipment laying around and it seems a little unprofessional that way. The service has been friendly, no complaints there. However, I feel that a restaurants focus should still be on good, quality prepared dishes. Both times my husband and I went for pad Thai, but it is served oversauced and has too much of a vinegar taste, today to the point we asked for hot water and poured it into the dish to try and dilute the sauce. It was so strong that it didnt really help but, oh well, we tried. I was disappointed and it wasnt worth the cost of about $15 a person. A half hour after leaving, I was questioning whether or not to give this place another chance sometime, when both of us got wicked stomach cramps and are feeling terrible. Good thing we have two washrooms, sorry but true. That answered the question for us, and well have to find somewhere else to go for Thai food.
Tasty and spicy. Nice and clean new dining space.
