The best dishes of Southeast Asia Les meilleurs plats de l’Asie sud-est Wok & grill restaurant familial
Authentic, no fuss, affordable Southeast Asian fare. The food is fantastic and comes out of the kitchen quickly. They have durian, soursop, and other exotic fruit milkshakes for only $5! I'll definitely be back. Only downside is that it's cash only...
Cash only! I ordered the noodle soup with stewed beef. On a cold day this beats any chicken noodle soup. Will be back again!
The fried rice had a smokey taste which we adore. The phnom penh is okay, good food portions. The cleaning of this store could be better, the menu has a stingy smell whenever we turned the pages and some prices were not so easy as it was corrected with a pencil. Cash only.
Nice little neighborhood in Ville St Laurent. Prices a bit on the upper side but portions are generous. Service is great though with a nice smile. Cash only so plan accordingly
This is an underrated place. I have been many times over the years. It is a family owned business, so it is not the 5 stars fusion restaurant ambiance or services. But the staff becomes friendly when you come back a few times. Price is average, they do have small or big size platter for your to choose. We were two, ordered Pad Thai (S), Beef “Lok Lak” (aka Shaken beef) in S, and a pan fried fish. We had enough food that we packed some home. Pad Thai was very savory, it is with shrimp by default. I loved the beef, it was tender and tasty, especially if you wrap it in lettuce, add some onions and a slice of tomato and the beef, you dipped in a lemon-salt-pepper sauce = 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻! Try it!! My mom thoroughly enjoyed the fish, it was very crunchy and I like the lemony fish sauce. For an in between fast food and restaurant spot, Asie Moderne is a great place to eat. But do not expect elaborate service/decor/platting.
Mixed feelings about this place. Been passing in front for several years and finally decided to stop and try it. Food was pretty good overall although seems like they use the same sauce for most of the meals. Prices that we were charged were different from the menu. Seems like the menu is outdated but it hits you as a suprise when it comes time to pay. Also note that they only take cash. The owner didn't tell us until it was time to pay and seeing as we had no cash on us, we had to send the owner an interac payment, not very ideal at all. Not sure I would go back.
My family and I are from Houston but visit family in Montréal once or twice a year. We always have to stop by this restaurant every single trip. It is so good. I dream about the Lap (spelling?) beef salad all the time. The soups and noodles are excellent as well. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu.
2024 Update: We go here once in a while but it had been a long time since we went and not sure what happened but unfortunately our latest visit was extremely disappointing... I can no longer recommend this place. We ordered several dishes, ALL the ones that had "sauce" were made with way way wayyyy too much starch, the "sauce" was more like some very thick gelatinous opaque gravy thing? The fried calamari were also very very oily, I mean sure it's fried so oily is expected but this was too much, a lot more than usual... Idk, maybe it was just a bad night, but, not sure I will be going back it's far and not worth rolling the dice :( Original Review (2018): First experience was good, we had the fried calamari with saute spicy beef, both were delicious and would order again especially the fried calamari. We also had the general Tao and unfortunately that was a huge disappointment for me as I love gtao... The meat itself was fine, good chunks of clean white meat, but it was just completely drenched in a kinda sweetnsour sauce, didn't really taste like gtao sauce, but the main issue was just that it was wayyyyyyyyyy too much sauce, so the gtao was just super soggy... I guess gtao just isn't their thing at all unfortunately because everything else I've seen looked great, so I'll definitely go back to try more! If you order gtao there just do yourself a favor and ask for the sauce on the side!
Very good neighborhood restaurant
10/10
I was surprised by this restaurant, but the quail was too dry
Excellent authentic food.
Best Khmer foods in town. Price unbeatable. Thanks Food : 5/5
Updated: I am downgrading my rating as I witness that they recyce the bean sprout and chili from previous customers... they did not even bother washing... I havent been back for many years; seems like they have changed owners. Food is great (though Ive only tried their soups) and reasonably priced; I like how their soup is really hot. My only complaint is the service. The kitchen is relatively quick, but the waitress cannot keep up with taking the orders and delivering it to the kitchen. Cash only. If you lve in the area, def would recommend, but avoid rush hours.
The Service is excellent and the people who work there are very friendly and welcoming. The portions are great and the prices affordable and reasonable!! One of my favorites
Grew up eating there all the time, pretty good if you want authentic cambodian food but not the best. For me it s like a quick fix, and it s cash only.
The food taste is mediocre and the portions are are really small. I will not go back.
Lovely people ! Great food !
A very nice Asian restaurant! The menu price taxes are included! Quality over price :D Ordered multiple times already and I finally review :)
I highly recommend this restaurant. Authentic food at a great price. Friendly staff and the best tasting food in the area.
Great little neighborhood restaurant in Ville St-Laurent. The flavors of the dishes and the kindness of the hostess charmed us. The soups are delicious. Tea is served free of charge, which is much appreciated. Prices include taxes. Dont forget your cash. We will return again and again.
Been there since I was a little girl! My mom would bring me every weekend from what is left in her paycheck. When she is sick is the only food she craves of.
Taste just like the food in Thailand! Was my reaction to the food when I tried their food. I went back 3x since. FYI they only take cash and its hard finding an ATM around there. Vegetarian options: There are a few options or you can order some foods and request to make it without the meat. Parking: Street parking is tight, but people are in and out so if you wait a little, you might find one. Wheelchair accessibility: Theres no access for wheelchair, you must go downstairs and inside there are two very tall steps.
Wonderful, clean, very good
I love the corner Chinese restaurant vibe. It reminds me of New York!
Their vast menu gives you the opportunity to try dishes you wont find elsewhere. Its super delicious. Generous helpings. Great service. Cash only. No cards.
The best Asian restaurant
Southeast Asian cuisine in Saint Laurent with a large selection of menu choices! Long-standing restaurant with friendly service and authentic food from Thailand, Cambodia and more. Unpretentious, reasonable prices and large portions. Cant beat their spicy calamar!
Very good service! Very friendly employees!
this place too good to me like everything tastes great service is awesome top 5 asian restaurant in here Montreal
Very good and very affordable price
Authentic South East Asian recipe, the taste brings me back memories of my moms cooking. The reason I give it 4 stars is because they only take cash. No debit/credit machine.
Very good place to eat Japanese mm be very kind thank you.
Air is not circulate inside the rssto, too hot and they said air conditioning is broken, the waiter seems to not sure when taking the orders , always asking 3-4 time the same question.Don t recommend to go there on a hot summer day
Everything was very good!!!
Good typical dishes.
Really delicious dishes, and warm smiles.!! Will be definitely be returning. Merci! Food : 5/5
Very good food and service.
Im sure its a Vietnamese restaurant with authentic flavors, not localized. Recommend to try it. The fly in the ointment is that they dont serve lemon and basil in pho.
Delicious!
Oriental restaurant offering Cambodian, Laos, Thai, Vietnamese dishes. Good prices, good services, newly-renovated resto.
One of my favourite restaurant of all time. Food is simply amazing. Restaurant looks like nothing but weve been going there for years and have always been so satisfied. Favourite meal: Beef Lok Lak
Cambodian dishes are good.
Excellent! Very typical South East Asia. Ginger chicken, rice and beef and wonton soup was very good we ate it all. Generous portion, good texture and flavor for a reasonable price. I recommend!!! Parking: 20 seconds walk max free parking on the next street.
So good! Wow
Everything was perfect and delicious. Wonderful service. Will be back soon :)
The food is great, the staff are very nice, polite and courteous. Amazing all around! Only realbissue is that they only take cash and they dont even have an ATM. Vegetarian options: They have some vegetarian options and salads. The Thai Papaya salad is very good and spicy!
Great food, good service. Love this place
If you love Asian cuisine, come here to enjoy the food, the restaurant and the hostess never disappoint you. dear.
Home cooking, always good.
The soups are super good...typical Asian dishes
I really liked the concept with the tray in the center that rotates to share the dishes. Our favorites: Lok Lak beef and Amok fish. The Wonton soup was pleasantly spicy.
Met a friend here for lunch. Really liked the beef brochette. And reasonably priced.
Good meal for a reasonable price. The food is of better quality than in the Thai banners. Recommended!
A hidden gem for cambodian food! Try the Bai Lok Lak...crazy good.
Good traditional food and good portion
It was very good like always, very fresh and very helpful friendly staff,
We ordered rice with pork bbq and rice with seafoods. The dishes were delicious and served in good portion. Just prepare cash for payment.
When you enter the restaurant to take an order, you dont find anyone who says hello
Dirty place, food looked like prison food. The Asian lady who served us was very unprofessional and rude; she was watching her show and it was very loud. Their rice was dry, hard and tasteless. The noodle were comestible at most. Not good at all. Wouldn t recommend.
Small portions, in my soup there was only one shrimp and one piece of carrot, very disappointing and my friend got poisoned due to the stew soup which did not look fresh. Place to avoid at all costs!
I know these owner since i was a Kid. Wow.. over 20years!! It felt like Home. The food was delicious!! Its a #Bang #LeeBang #SourakayPhommachack
Good food. Only take cash.
Loved the atmosphere
The best noodle soup in town! Been coming here for years! And their dishes are also fantastic!
My best restaurant in montreal
Dont be fooled by the exterior appearance of the restaurant, because its excellent! Always very good dishes, no matter what we have! Well seasoned and full of flavor.
We ordered a takeout and the food was good
Very good food and service!!
The flavors are not authentic. I ordered Chinese broccoli and they put bokchoy?! Plus, it was so sweet and full of oil. Our order was a mess with juice leaking everywhere. The Thai fritz rice had no taste and especially no basil..... Finally the loklak was expensive for the portion and the taste once again not authentic. The beef was tender which was the positive point. In short, for real Cambodian food to avoid.
Only accept cash, the rest is fine.
good dishes and reasonable prices recommanded
The meals were tasty. a wide range of options Food
I ordered a rice with beef lok lak. It came with 1 part beef and 3 parts rice...l shouldve just order the beef lok lak itself with additional rice on the side.
Just ordered.. its a scam .. i ordered bo lok lak and com 3 mau ( 3 colors) and the taste is disappointing super dry i even asked some soy sauce on the side and spicy sauce they didnt gave me any so no sauce what a shame and since when a com 3 mau doesnt have fish sauce on the side ?! also the quantity is a joke only rice my 4 years old is still hungry after this . At least put salad not a tiny pinch of carrots. Very disappointed will never order from here it was my first time
A true gem with authentic south east Asia flavour. I m a regular over 20 years.
The best Cambodian restaurant
Terrible food . I ordered for a Singapore noodles and it nither had salt nor flavor. It was filled with turmeric and we could taste it in every bite..the worst place I can think of when its for food.
Amazing Cambodian food. 4 stars go to the food. The restaurant is what youd expect from a local neighborhood restaurant.. you keep going back for the food!
Best soup in MTL
My favorite dish
I was looking for an Asian restaurant nearby, the ad seemed promising, the elaborate menu, it was quickly easy to find with map, there was construction which allowed me to find a place where I could park easily. People seemed surprised to see us arrive but the welcome was friendly, the young waiter was very kind and took the time to tell us the menu, the wonton soup was very good, I really liked the main meal, lots of rice, I had the time to speak with the owner, very nice and friendly, I would have chatted with her all evening, even if the restaurant was half underground and under construction, it allowed us to eat and let rush hour pass and leaving Montreal more easily than entering it!!!!
Authentic Cambodian food. My wife is Cambodian and she ordered Koh Ko (stew), Somlor Mju Krung (soup), and Brohok Ktih (like a meat dip with peas and spices). All good choices, especially if you want to try something different. The brohok ktih is eaten by dipping vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, cucumbers) into it. It is a bit salty which is fine for me. They also have Thai food and typical Chinese food (General Tso chicken). I believe they dont take credit cards. Bon Appétit!
Good
Cambodian dishes . The Phnom Penh noodle soup is a must. *update 08/02/2020* Another visit and again, another great meal! Took the Phnom Penh special noodles with the broth aside and wow; what a delight. That dish hit that exact spot! Would recommend and would definitely go back for some more!! If you ever try that dish, as for some lime juice and put some both the noodles and the broth. That little limey juicy flavour changes the whole thing:)
They know how to cook their food. I came the day I was so hungry and cold. Got a very good wonton soup and rice with bbq pork. Perfect!!!!!
Good Asian food
Clean and cheap
Had a Thai style stir fryer noodle .. it was good
Knew this place my whole life. I m glad they never closed and the food taste is still the same. The soup dumpling, pad seew, cantonese noodles.. Forever in my heart!
Excellent service and food is great.
Tasty thai/cambodian food. Ordered by phone and the lady took the order swiftly and was very courteous. Ordered ginger garlic quails, shrimp tom yum, salty fish rice, lok lak beef rice, pad thai and seafood egg drop soup. Everything stayed hot after 30min and was very good.
Food was awful, all the sauces are like glue, and they accept cash only in 2020, can you believe it?
First visit and I will definitely not go back there again. The service was poor, no smile, no hello. I think the person said a sentence to us? The food was not good.. Im really not picky and I like to try new things but this time it was a flop. I dont recommend it, unless youre adventurous! It doesnt take debit/credit so you have to walk to withdraw money. $40 in the trash :)
The food was tasty. Service ok. Ambience non-existant
Really very average. Go there for the soup. Everyone around us ate this dish. We missed our general tao, Korean pork and spring rolls. Too fatty, bland and breading too generous. Culinary pleasure completely absent. Exaggerated reputation according to comments.
Best food
Dont come
Nothing change over the year. We love eating their food.
Best go to quick meal with over 100 varieties
Although there are many Thai + South Asian restaurants in Montreal or St. Laurent area, the best part of this one is the taste and speed of serve. The owner lady is really good and has a good memory as well about your taste and cuisines you tried earlier . Highly recommended for people who want to try out the authentic South Asian food with the best taste.
A place with a perfect combination of price and quality of food! Everything is always delicious!
Not enough meat in the beef and vegetable dishes, too much rice but its still good
We have NEVER been disappointed (several years), only happiness! The Amok, seriously, you have to try that (except that afterward, it will be harder to choose something else). Very large selection but its homemade, with intention. Informal atmosphere (family restaurant). Too bad I live a little far away and cant go there more often. Good, affordable dishes as well (but only for cash). Worth the detour.
Know this place since I was a kid and the food is still good !
Outstanding food. Very tasty. We dont eat out often, but when we do, we come here. They have a wide selection of Cambodian and Asian menu choices. Place is cozy and welcoming. Highly recommended.
The Loc Lac with fried rice is good.
Good food.
Really excellent typical Cambodian food!!!
The food is decent quality. Ordered from them many times then one day they randomly charged me almost double the price for the same order.... I understand inflation but almost double is ridiculous especially for that quality of food. Theres actually a better restaurant across the street.
Very good
Excellent little restaurant
Beef lok lak excellent with rice on the same plate or as a starter. Very busy during lunch. Noodles and seafood are good even if a little oily.
A hidden gem!!!
Food is always good. Good service. Authentic meal.
Great taste, low prices and fresh food
Vietnamese food
super clean
Authentic food but the ambience is lacking. Typical Ma & Pa restaurant.
Great authentic South Asian eats. Family run with a homey atmosphere.
Excellent authentic cuisine! Recommended
This owner operated, simplistic decor joint has spectacular food. Unless your familiar with Cambodian fare your likely not yet acquainted with will most of these flavors. Cant get enough.
They choose who to serve better ;) if you know what I mean
Its like drinking oil, I dont understand the reviews, it must be fake. Everything was bad and overdone. Plus the squid didnt taste fresh. I had a reaction to the MSG and had to put my fingers in the back of my throat to try to vomit up the meal. The stench from the food filled the house and we had to ventilate while fighting a deep nausea. $110 for 4 people, almost everything went in the trash.
Always the best cambodian resto in my heart since 1995
Wow. This food blew me out of the water! Every single dish from the pad Thai to the fish was excellent, but the real star of the show is their soup. Their soups are fantastic. Super nice people too. It s quite a bit out of of my way, but I will definitely be coming back.
Small place, not very clean, but excellent food.
Nice small restaurant with a authentic enough kitchen and a nice variety of choices! Recommended
The staff was friendly and helpful. Our Shrimp, Vegetables and Rice and Chinese Broccoli, were delicious!
Love this place !
Food was very good along with service. Had the garlic and green onion quail, salty fish fried rice, asie moderne noodle, imperial rolls and salt and pepper calamris.
My fav asian food place. Delicious cambodian food
Slow service cold food
Very good
Excellent food.
Delicious foods!
Great tasting food at a fair price.
Dont try new places often. Was a great delight and loved concept of making my soup. Loved it!
Great taste great value great service, you MUST try this place if you re in the area!
Great food, fast service at a decent price.
Excellent food and lots of options
pefect vietnamese restaurant
Good homely asian fare at a reasonable price. Good service.
Degoutant et revoltant! No taste. Overpriced. Overall junk food. There was hair in my food and I also fell sick eating this. This place needs to close down !
Nice food and very cheap price, I love the Ragout de boeuf which is the best here I found! However depending on the day, the food is not that fresh during the week (just occasionally). Better to go there during the weekend probably.
Great food and extremely friendly staff
Been visiting here with my family for years, the owner & servers are very kind. The food is always served with great quality & the prices are cheap. This is your best place for authentic Cambodian cuisine:)
Very good, but too big menu, you can venture with a dish you shouldnt have tried, because surely they rarely sell any
My favorite restaurant for over 10 years! You have to have the Lok Lak beef!
