45 Steps - The Culinary Beachside Inn in Saint Peters Bay

I wont repeat the many favourable comments made already, but will add that the hosts have managed to create a rare combination of stylish atmosphere, cosy home comfort, personal approachability and professionalism. We had a problem shortly after departure (nothing to do with the property I hasten to add). We asked for their help and and they went above and beyond to help us out. A unique and memorable place

My wife and I are 75 years and widely travelled. We stayed at the 45 Steps for a week. It was probably the 1 or 2 best places we have ever stayed, anywhere. London, Rome, Paris, wherever. Location is gorgeous, perched on a cliff overlooking St. Laurence Sound. Also near Greenwich Dunes seashore park, 6 miles from St. Peters bay, where you can rent bikes to take the most scenic part of Confederation Trail. Beaches mostly deserted, water is warm and very swimmable. Barbara and Thomas are the perfect hosts. Gregarious and full of local lore. (The island is a complex society and they are into it. ) Meals are amazing, no doubt the best on PEI. Barbara is a gourmet cook, uses mostly local ingredients. Dinners are mostly seafood, high point is definitely the salads, the salads display astonishing creative genius. Save room for dessert, also incredible. Continental breakfasts are sumptuous, Barbara has made scones, breads and she has also brought in croissants from France. Homemade marmelade is unbelievable. Try the orange, especially. Also the peach, and mango. The rooms are to die for. They open onto a patio with spectacular views of the Sound. Beds and pillows sumptuous but the sheets are special, made of Belgian linen, ask Barbara to tell you the whole story! Make no mistake, this is absolutely a luxury resort, affordably priced. A gem. The only question for potential visitors is whether you want to go to a remote, peaceful island where the biggest event is a walk on the beach or through a salt marsh, or want a more exciting experience......

The 45 Steps Inn has a wonderful location. Barbara and Thomas are very friendly hosts and we immediately felt at home.

Barbara and Thomas run 45 Steps with a lot of passion and experience. The Inn is in a fantastic location with a beautiful and empty beach. The rooms are bright and furnished to a high quality. The bed was very large and comfortable. You can enjoy a wonderful sea view from the room. Barbara cooks a delicious menu every evening and for breakfast there is homemade bread, jam and other delicacies. Would recommend the Inn to everyone.

We stayed two nights in July 2024 at the 45 Steps on Prince Edward Island and loved it. This is one of the few places we will never forget. The location is unique. The view breathtaking, the food tastes unbelievable good and Barbara and Thomas are the most friendly hosts we can think of. If we make it again to the island we will definitely return to the 45 Steps. A unique place we will remember and keep in our memories.

My boyfriend and I stayed at 45 Steps for a couple of nights and loved every second of it. Absolutely stunning decor and views that immediately put you into relaxation mode. We ended up cancelling golf because we didnt want to leave the private beach and beautiful accomodations. Barbara and Thomas were very accomodating, offering great wine pairings with our food, delicious gluten free options (including zuchinni muffins and mango coconut cake!) and the BEST homeade jam. I think my boyfriend had half the jar of strawberry jam one morning. We will be back!

Incredible experience. We enjoyed unmatched hospitality from our hosts. Everything was brand new and spotlessly clean. All units have a view of the ocean, however our unit had the added benefit of being on the second floor of the building. Be sure to have dinner at least once during your stay. You wont be disappointed.

45 Steps is a destination unto itself. Of all the places in PEI we visited, we enjoyed our moments at 45 Steps the most: the private beach, the delicious food, the well-appointed rooms and the breathtaking views. Barbara and Thomas host with warmth and professionalism. The dinners were all excellent, each one skillfully prepared with fresh local ingredients. We absolutely loved staying at 45 Steps: it was just what we wanted, and we can t wait to go back.

This place was amazing. The hosts were fabulous and made us feel at home from setting foot on site. The food prepared by Barbara was to die for. Beautiful private beach and evenings watching the sun set. Absolutely loved this and plan to return soon. Can t say enough wonderful things.

I dont think 5 stars is enough for this place and this wonderful couple who you can tell have put their heart and soul into this truly special place. We are so happy we stayed here and took time to unwind, relax and just shut off. Thomas and Barbara are truly just lovely people. We had a lot going on for this trip which included a list of dietary restrictions and everyday we were made to feel special, taken care of and truly spoiled! My husband and I came here really needing some peace, tranquility and time to ourselves and we received so much more than that. Thank you both to Barbara and Thomas- you both are just fantastic and I cannot wait to return with our little one one day. If you want to visit PEI, I highly encourage you to stay at 45 Steps. Barbara and Thomas provide exceptional accommodations and top-notch service at this gorgeous inn in a picturesque setting. For my wife and I, 45 Steps was the perfect home base from which to explore PEI. Barbara gave us helpful advice and recommendations about the area, and her cooking featuring fresh local ingredients was a highlight of staying there. I really encourage you to reserve a spot for dinner at least once during your stay, but they are flexible and also willing to recommend other restaurants. In everything, Barbara and Thomas go above and beyond to make sure their guests have a good experience, their 5 stars are well deserved! Nearby activities: The inn is relatively close to PEI National Park, as well as many great sights on the Points East Coastal Drive.

Phenomenal! We enjoyed a delicious swiss raclette for dinner together with a starter and dessert. If Barbara asks you if you want the dinner say yes! Rooms are super clean and cosy and with a breathtaking view on the sea. Rooms

We felt very comfortable during our 3-day stay. Days before our arrival, we were informed by email about the possibility of additionally booking dinner, the price and the respective menus during our stay. On arrival we were warmly greeted by Barbara and Thomas and shown the room personally. The rich breakfast and the 3-course dinner are served in the main building. You also have a clear view of the sea from the tables. The kitchen, the tables, the lounges with library, etc. are located in the middle of the main area - actually in the middle of the hosts private area. This gives you the pleasant feeling of belonging to the family during your stay. Barbara and Thomas also give very good tips for exploring P.E.I. If you want family atmosphere, very good food but also peace and quiet with walks on the nearby beach or exploring the island, this is the right place for you.

A breathtaking entrance greets you as soon as you walk in. Spectacular ocean views that are sure to clear the mind. A real PEI hidden gem nestled amidst the trees that surprises and delights you when you first lay eyes upon it. An intimate 3-course dinner proudly prepared with love by Barbara, and a wonderful assortment of foods served for breakfast. She and Thomas treated us with personal and friendly service during our quiet, peaceful winter visit, and we also enjoyed the lovely conversation. It truly was an experience like no other, waking up to the sights of the powerful ocean waves. Thank you for welcoming my husband and I and our dog into your stunning inn. Barbara and Thomas had an uncanny way of making it feel like my partner and I were at home living a luxury beach house dream through our stay. Between the beautiful nature of the Inn itself, Barbara and Thomas s superb hospitality and the oh so delicious food served, I doubt there is a better beachside retreat in the maritimes. I would travel to PEI just to spend rest and restoration time soaking up the charm of this Inn and beachside property.

My husband and I stayed at 45 steps last night, and we absolutely loved it. The room was wonderful and very comfortable. It was so peaceful and so nice to wake up and see the ocean out our door. Breakfast was delicious, and the service was also amazing.

Rooms: The rooms were absolutely stunning with the cutest decor and a very welcoming, cozy vibe. The bed was super comfy and positioned perfectly for watching sunrises/sunsets! Nearby activities: 45 Steps is a quick drive away from Greenwich Provinical Park which is where PEIs sand dunes are located with hiking trails and a beach! Food and drinks: A filling European style breakfast is served, including most delicious croissants youll ever taste! Barbara and Thomas are always friendly faces to see in the dining room and are excited to serve delicious meals! Noteworthy details: The best part of this place was how welcoming the hosts, Barbara and Thomas are. They make it feel like you are visiting old friends and they have two adorable dogs!

45 Steps is the most FABULOUS Inn. I took my daughter for her 25th birthday, we were there from Friday to Sunday. The rooms are amazing and should rate a 10+ . There is not one thing you could ask for to improve your stay. Our view was beautiful. The location is great for wanting to be away from the hub bub and just to relax. The hosts are the most wonderful,engaging ,interesting and lovely people ever. And the 2 adorable little fur babies are the best greeters you could ask for. In all my travels, this is in the top 4. I can not wait to return, this time for a longer stay.

What a fabulous place and experience. It is much more than just a place to stay. You are totally immersed in the experience of being there and with the hosts - Barbara and Thomas. They are truly focused on making your stay as pleasurable as possible. The Inn is quite unique - it is not just a hotel, nor is it a traditional Bed & Breakfast. You can have as much privacy as you like, or as much sharing. The large, very contemporary lodge offers a library, living room, fireplace, and dining facilities. You may dine a cozy table for 2 - or at larger tables to share with others. A European breakfast is included in the price of your room. But Barbara will also prepare dinner for you and your guests upon request - at an additional cost. The individual rooms are virtually new, and are very clean. Everything overlooks the ocean - amazing views - and the Inn sits on a pleasurable, quiet, 35 acre grounds. A stay at this property should be a destination for you if visiting PEI.

what a wonderful place to be! we spent three nights in this very comfy and tastefully decorated inn. barbara and thomas are the perfect hosts. as i am suffering from celiac desease, eating out is often impossible. barbara made sure that i could enjoy her delicious three-course meals for dinner and a scrumptious breakfast in the morning. the only thing we regret is, that we had to leave!

My wife and I visited in Jul 2023 and it was an experience we will be talking about for years. This place is incredible. The property is gorgeous, the rooms are super clean, modern and comfy. The beach is one of the best weve ever been on. The food is out of the world. Barb, Thomas, and theyre morning employee (sorry didnt catch your name, but she was a fine islander woman) are amazing people who take great pride in their work. They treated us like royalty every step of the way. They just wanted to ensure we were well taken care of and that we didnt want for nothing. They were super accommodating with our 2 dog, which we were very thankful for. It was such a unique and luxurious experience that we will definitely be back again. Do yourself a favor, book in for supper while youre there. Just 45 steps to the beach!

This Inn is so lovely in every way imaginable! The most breathtaking views of the coast, modern clean rooms, fantastic hosts and most importantly one of the best culinary experiences; the prefix menu set by Barbara and Thomas are absolutely unique and incredibly delicious with locally sourced and fresh ingredients! I cannot overstate the amazing experience we had while at the Inn. Barbara and Thomas have created a warm, beautiful space that makes you feel as if you re on another planet. Waking up and going to sleep with such views was unforgettable, and something we cannot wait to partake in many times over in the future. Aside from the impeccable accommodations, the food (both included breakfast, and the optional 3-course dinners) was the best either of us have had, across many, many countries. Breakfast brought the most delicious pastries and jams/preserves that we looked forward to each morning, and was the perfect start to the day. We were lucky enough to be treated to three very different dinners throughout, where the culinary skills of our hosts were truly showcased. Although we enjoyed classics such as salmon, scallops, and caprese salad, the flavour combinations and cooking techniques were so incredibly perfect; we didn t want our meals to end. If you do not partake in these dinners, you are truly missing out. To make things extra special, Barbara coordinated to have our fur babies watched during dinner time, so we could have a relaxing meal alone (thank you again!) Semi-related, there is a town about ten minutes away, St.Peter s, with a trove of cute shops. We had a chance to visit Fritz s chocolates and the Black & White Cafe, and would absolutely recommend making a visit to both places if in the area. Kudos to the owners for their talent in hospitality (all facets); you have created an absolute gem. We appreciate all of your hard work, which allowed us to have a truly memorable few days. We cannot wait to return in the future!

The most amazing place with the most amazing service! The location is a 10 out of 10...right on a private red sand beach for as far as the eye can see. The owners Barbara and Thomas have the highest of standards and are the kindest people. The food was OUTSTANDING! You can not go wrong visiting this wonderful place. We will be back!

We just had a magical stay at 45 Steps on PEI with Barbara and Thomas. If you are looking for a haven from the madness of the world, this is it. They wrap you in a comforting blanket of generous hospitality and fine cuisine - Barbara is Lausanne-trained - in a design environment that is unparalleled. I recommend it very highly. It is a remarkable experience.

This is most beautiful place we stayed at in our trip to the Maritimes. The room was beautifully appointed, very modern design. It also had a great view out the sliding door out to the ocean, which is literally 45 steps down to the beach, with gorgeous sunsets and sunrises. The dining area also had beautiful views out to the ocean. The breakfast included lots of wonderful home-baked goods, cereals, fruit and some meats, as well as juice, tea and coffee. Our hosts, Barbara and Thomas, were very friendly, and were helpful with suggestions of what to do in the area. We also opted for a dinner at the Inn, with Chef Barbara making us a delicious 3-course meal, with a glass of wine to go with it. Altogether we had a very enjoyable stay at 45 Steps Inn, and look forward to visiting again!

Barbara and Thomas operate a first rate resort in a uniquely special location. Every detail has been elegantly and thoughtfully cared for. Best food we had during our visit to PEI. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious and Barbaras clever cocktails are a treat! Rooms are fabulous, ultra-clean and views incredible. We will definitely be back! We chose to escape to PEI for a final vacation before our baby arrives and The 45 steps Inn was the perfect place for us. The space is intimate, quiet and stunning. The food is superb and the innkeepers are lovely. The rooms are very comfortable and you truly feel like you re staying with friends while you re there, so you gravitate to the shared spaces! My husband and I sadly only stayed one night at 45 steps but we enjoyed every minute. It is a BEAUTIFUL place with modern, comfortable accommodations. We had a large deck off our room facing the ocean and enjoyed a nice sunset after a day of rain. Barbara and Thomas serve a delicious meal in an ocean facing dining room that offers guests both privacy and community if you re seeking it. We were there over Canadian Thanksgiving and we were treated like family.

45 Steps completely blew us away and exceeded our expectations. Barbara and Thomas are phenomenal hosts - they made us feel very relaxed at at home. The food was also great, we looked forward to breakfast and dinner each day more so than any local places. The rooms were very modern, with brand new high quality furniture and bedding. Of course, the coolest part was the view and proximity to the beach. Theyre not kidding when they say 45 steps - it really is that close. Additionally, its so much more peaceful and quiet than we thought. You basically have the entire beach to yourself. We will be trying to come back here some day - highly recommend!

I took my wife and two adult children w/their significant others to 45 Steps to celebrate my wifes 60th birthday. We couldnt have stayed at a nicer place! Barbara and Thomas were amazing hosts. A few of us had dietary restrictions and Barbara went out of her way to insure we were taken care of. The communication before and during the trip was fantastic. The location is phenomenal! My wife and I stayed in the Tower Suite which has 180 degree views of the ocean. We liked it so much my wife and I are planning to go back!

My partner and I spent 2 nights at 45 Steps Inn just two weeks after it opened. We werent sure where we were heading as it was so new, and there were only a couple of reviews online. When we pulled up to the property we were amazed at the beautiful construction, property, and views. The room was spacious, comfortable, and finished with high quality materials. The design of the grounds is perfect - with privacy where needed and comfortable common spaces as well. Barbara and Thomas were extremely welcoming and friendly. We had dinner one night which was filling, healthy, and delicious. We would highly recommend 45 Steps Inn for your stay in PEI!

My wife and I stayed for three nights to celebrate our COVID-delayed 25th wedding anniversary. What an experience! Definitely worth the wait. The inn is absolutely stunning, inside and out. The view from any window is breathtaking, and being able to see the sun both rise and set from the same place was an added bonus. The beach below was a welcome treat, and we spent many hours there reading in the inn-supplied beach chairs and swimming. The breakfasts were great, with a lot of variety. The dinners were some of the best weve had. Barbaras approach to cuisine is the way we like to cook and eat: High quality ingredients that are carefully prepared for simple and delicious presentation and eating. We are going back!

My wife and I have just had the best 10 vacation days you can imagine! If you are looking for a 5-Star experience on PEI, then the 45 Steps Inn is it! Besides the awesome location right at the north-shore of PEI, allowing to wake up with the greatest sun-rises in the East and then enjoy the most beautifil sun-sets in the West as the day ends, the fully renovated rooms and the general dining and leisure area are simply top notch! Barbara and Thomas, the lovely owners and hosts of this cozy beachside hotel, have truly made us feel at home! We enjoyed the short distance to the beach (just down those 45 steps) for a nice swim as often as we wanted at an almost empty beach and also did short day-trips to other highlights of PEI, of which there are plenty in close proximity. But also just coming to your own senses and simply enjoying the peace and quiet of nature on the little terrace on compfy chairs and sofas to read a book was a big part of our relaxation. All of this was already too good to be true - and then there is the dining experience with their absolutely delicious three-course meals in the evening (optional, but highly recommended). So, clearly a culinary highlight as well! Well be back, thats for sure.

If I could provide a rating beyond 5 stars, then I would. Barbara and Thomas were amazing hosts, and the accommodations and location were simply amazing. The views were breathtaking and a stroll along the beach, at the bottom of those 45 steps, was the epitome of serenity. My wife and I visited for our anniversary, and 45 Steps Inn offered the perfect retreat for relaxation and a launch pad to tour all that beautiful PEI has to offer. I look forward to the day when I can visit again!

This place is amazing. My husband and I spent one night there and had a very nice and clean room with a terrace with an ocean view (I think all the room have the same view). The place is new so everything is pristine. The hosts, Thomas and Barbara, are very attentive to providing their guest with the outmost care. The food is also amazing and healthy. We will most likely make this place one of our annual destination to relax and spend time by the sea.

I cannot say enough about the experience provided by Barbara and Thomas at 45 Steps. Both are outstanding, thoughtful hosts and their exceptional hospitality and attention to detail is immediately apparent when you see the inn itself and experience the service provided throughout your stay. 45 Steps offers a truly relaxing escape and picturesque location, and the inn is as exceptional as your hosts hospitality. On top of all of that, Barbara serves up delicious dishes using carefully sourced ingredients. She also pays very close attention to guests dietary limitations and preferences. All in all, highly recommend 45 Steps and certainly will look to stay here again if back on PEI.

In mid August we chose to have our elopement at the 45 Steps - and the venue blew away our expectations! Barbara and her husband, Thomas, were very accommodating to our small special event - with their help and the inn itself our day turned out perfect! We even asked Barbra to make us a special picnic basket for a lunch, which was customized exactly to our liking including champagne and lobster rolls! Breakfasts and dinners alike were prepared and tasted better and any meal we ve had on the island! Overall it was our absolute pleasure to have had our event at the 45 steps! We ll be back for an anniversary!! Highly recommend on all points - and a special hello to the two friendly pugs, Cookie and Duffy!

We cant rave enough about 45 Steps! From the moment we arrived (my husband & I with our two teenage daughters), Barbara & Thomas made us feel right at home in their beautiful boutique hotel. The inn was a delight to the eyes, both inside and out! The furnishings and bedding were luxurious. The views from the Tower and Executive Suite were stunning. We also enjoyed both breakfast and dinner everyday in their welcoming open kitchen and dining room. The meals were so delicious as Barbara used local ingredients to create refreshing dishes. The grounds were expansive with a special space for lawn games. And of course, the beach! This secluded piece of sand and ocean was ideal for soaking in the beauty of PEI. 45 Steps was the perfect start and finish to each of the four days we spent exploring the Island. Every detail was looked after, including a jug of delicious peach ice tea and a handcrafted game of poker dice. Saying good bye to Barbara & Thomas was like saying farewell to old friends... we shall return!

This is one of the best properties weve ever stayed at in all our travels. The property is beautifully situated on the north shore. The rooms have fantastic views of the ocean, and as the name suggests, you are 45 steps (down) to the beach. Barbara and Thomas are personable and professional hosts. The ocean-view rooms are furnished with a calm and relaxing spa-like décor. The bed was super comfortable and the bathroom colours and finishes including rain shower were wonderful and toiletries eco-friendly, which we appreciated. We enjoyed the great breakfasts each day with delicious homemade jams, and the 3-course dinners made by Barbara were absolutely superb! We also thought the choice of east coast wines on the menu was a great touch too. This place and its beach and views will definitely knock your socks off!

Looking for a quiet stay outside of Charlottetown yet close to provincial parks, trails and 45 steps to the Gulf of St Lawrence? you have found it here. Barbara and Thomas are the utmost hosts making sure you have the best experience while staying there. We had originally booked for two nights, then changed to 6. Barbara was most accommodating. Breakfast? amazing. Not your typical continental breakfast with powdered eggs. Here you will find Homemade jams, freshly baked breads and scrumptious scones. Greek yogurt, fruits, cheeses, cereals, sliced cold cuts. They try their best to source locally as the season allows. And their coffee...another level. Enjoy Barbaras culinary skills in the kitchen. 3 course menu that changes daily. We enjoyed a mixed salad with blanched green beans and vinaigrette, italian style risotto made with arborio rice, mascarpone, saffron and topped with local scallops and roasted veggies. Dark Chocolate mousse with fresh mango topped the meal. There is a great wine list, again with local wineries at the forefront plus other selections. The rooms are very clean. We have already booked our stay next year. Cant wait!

I wish I had more time at 45 Steps. The most peaceful, restful, restorative experience. The view is remarkable. 45 steps down to the ocean for a walk, read a book on one of the many chairs outside of bay to the sound of nature and waves. The dinner was outstanding and clean, and the breakfast was scrumptious. Bed was comfy, and rooms are clean and free of clutter, all new fixtures with Scandinavian vibes. The hosts are so friendly and available definitely worth the trip out to Goose River!

My partner and I stayed here in September 2022. This was one of the best places Ive ever stayed. From the immaculate rooms to the beautiful main house with a library that I could live in for the rest of my life, there was no detail left out. Barbara and Tomas were the perfect hosts, the food was delicious and the company even better. We stayed one night, which is not enough. Were already planning a return for multiple days.

Cant beat this place. Ocean view, wonderful hosts, great breakfasts and tasty dinner. If you are in this part of PEI this is a must stay place.

As travel lovers, 45 Steps was the most beautiful inn we have ever stayed. Barbara and Tom keep their inn meticulous. Their rooms are immaculate and well furnished. The ocean view from your room is breathtaking. The inn grounds are beautifully landscaped. The food is great and your dietary needs will be met. We cannot say enough about how wonderful our experience was staying at 45 Steps!

Absolutely beautiful inn - well maintained and thought out details. Would highly recommend doing the dinner as it was delicious and had a beautiful view of the sunset.

Barbara and Thomas are outstanding hosts! The entire Inn, including our room was clean, modern and most importantly, comfortable. Our stay here has been a highlight of the trip! We cant wait to come back again one day! Thank you so much for a wonderful experience!! 10/10!!
