182 Rue Champlain, Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, QC J6T 1X7, Canada
A convivial eatery in homage to New Orleans, with down-home cooking, jazz photos & a garden terrace.
My boyfriend brought me here because he heard the served alligator a couple years ago. It definitely wasn't on the menu, so I can't verify if that was ever true or not. I really like cajun food, but he'd never tried it before and ended up really enjoying it. I got a chicken caesar salad and a mojito, while he got the chicken & shrimp jambalaya with a side of fries. The french fries were really good, really delicate and crispy, and the jambalaya was great. The shrimp and sausage were seasoned really well, and the vegetables weren't too overcooked or mushy. My salad tasted really nice, and I particularly enjoyed the pickled red onions and croutons. Unfortunately though, I found the dressing to be just a bit too heavy on the salad, leaving it noticeably oily in my mouth, so I didn't finish it. The chicken on top was really great, it was sliced into long strips and was very crispy and flavourful. Considering adding chicken costed about 10 dollars, I'm happy they didn't skimp on the portion size because I would've probably left hungry otherwise. Maybe it's because I don't drink alcohol too often, but my drink kind of confused me. I did read that the mojito had tonic water instead of club soda, but the quinine taste (which i usually love) reminded me almost of fish while I drank. I considered trying to mix the drink a little to disperse the soda more evenly, but the inclusion of like, 2 whole stalks of mint made me not want to stir it up to avoid drinking a bunch of leaves. As I continued the drink I was less bothered by the flavour, as I approached the sweetener at the bottom. It wasn't terrible but the first few sips were definitely offputting. The server we had was great, really friendly and accommodating. The interior is very cozy and the aesthetic choices made are bold and unique. The actual space inside is very small from what I can tell, and they use it well. I appreciate that the washrooms are solo with a shared sink/mirror to maximize space while still being private.
While this might be a gem for some, for me found it okay. Seating cramped in a small indoor space (terrace was closed due to rain), too dark. almost all dishes are spicy with no mention of that on the menu nor by the waiter so to my surprise paid 250$+ (tips and tax included) 2 adults and 2 kids for not so enjoyable experience.
Cozy, and you feel a peaceful sensation just by seating on the table. The staff is very nice too and has a cheerful way to communicate with clients.
An unforgettable 40th Wedding anniversary dinner! Thank you Nouvelle-Orléans! An absolute hidden gem! This establishment has it all. The ambiance is warm, welcoming and the staff are way above par. (Merci, mille fois, Martine!) The food? Way above average. We started with cocktails, I discovered the "Banana Bomb" , an adult version of a banana popsicle, it was wonderful. My husband went with a spicy Caesar and reported it exceeded his expectations. For an appetizer, I chose the crab cakes. Seasoned to perfection, 2 clouds of crab heaven, the presentation was such that I hesitated to dig in. They were light in texture and prepared just so amazingly, I contemplated ordering more however, our entrées were on their way. My husband chose the Creole shrimp and rice, I went with a fried shrimp dish and a sweet potato fries side. The shrimps were huge and so tender. My dish was again, seasoned and prepared perfectly. My husband was also very impressed with the seasoning and texture of his as well. Now to the nitty-gritty; the prices are more than reasonable and combined with the ambiance, welcoming staff and exceptional dishes, this is a "MUST VISIT" for all fans of Cajun/Créole cuisine.
We've been here a couple of times and enjoy the intimate atmosphere, the upscale bar menu and most of the menu. Sometimes the more popular dishes sell out early (we've never had the crab cakes). The menu is fairly authentic, but could do with some changes- you can get a cheese burger, steak and fries or fish and chips anywhere. If you're looking for something different- a new world of flavors and fun cocktails in a more private setting this cozy place is definitely worth experiencing at least twice.
First day visiting Canada and we thought that'd be nice to try this restaurant. It's cozy, the waiters are so so nice and the food is really tasty (the dessert "pouding pain" is a must).
This restaurant is absolutely awesome from the appetizers to the dessert. We started with a ceasar salad with a twist topped with grilled shrimp. First time I'm impressed with a ceasar salad. The jambalaya was the best I ever had. Every ingredients were fresh and perfectly spiced. For dessert we had the bread pudding with caramel and my partner said that it was even better then his grandmother's.
The restaurant has a really nice patio with a little section for just having a drink. I started with the Voodoo escargot which had a good tangy canjun sauce. However, couldn't really taste the real taste of the escargots. I then had the Blackened fish. It was really good and cooked just right. The top was carmalized and tasty. However the service could be a bit faster considering the restaurant not being very full. But the great weather and patio compensated for it. I had a good experience in general. I recommend.
Warm atmosphere, unparalleled cuisine and service like no other: live the Cajun experience
Excellent food, impeccable service. I love this restaurant!
I dont know what to say, Im so satisfied. The food is very very very good! The service is excellent and very fast. It took us 1 hour to eat our starters and meals. There were 4 people and the restaurant was full, incredible!
Very nice discovery for this Cajun restaurant. My shrimp with Pernod were exquisite - as were the crab fritters -, the fish and chip demon mari was more common. The attentive service was perfect. I recommend it to you
We ordered Saturday April 27, 2024. Good, but not as usual. The vegetables offered with the dishes changed...no more green beans but a mixture of broccoli, cauliflower and carrots...it was more of an Asian vegetable stir-fry, not a good match with a Creole menu... the smoked taste was no longer there either....blackened fish no longer on the menu, big disappointment and the jambalaya was much spicier than our last order. The General Lee chicken also didnt have the same subtle smoky taste as before...it lacked flavor. We are disappointed, we loved the food so much, but its not YUM like it used to be...not bad, but nothing out of the ordinary.
Impeccable service. Good food and a nice atmosphere. Everything is there to have a great time.
nice atmosphere Parking: several availability
Please never remove your pernod shrimp from your menu... succulent
The ONLY restaurant where I consider the food to exceed what I make at home (most restaurants are a massive disappointment. Not him!) Superb terrace, staff who seem to trip hard, extensive menu and wine lists Very central in Valleyfield (rather important because the atmosphere encourages you to raise your elbow!) Surprisingly reasonable price level A must try if you are in the area
Already at 7 p.m., there was no blackened fish left, but I was not disappointed by the jambalaya -- divine! Im not really a fan of spicy food, but here the pepper was perfectly balanced: spicy, yes, but nothing unbearable and adding depth to the dish, pairing perfectly with the tomato. I think Im going to get addicted! Mention to our waitress: cordial, considerate, she took the trouble to come and tell us that our dishes would arrive in a few minutes after a certain waiting time (nothing dramatic there!) rather than leaving us in the dark, like This happens too often in other restaurants. Managing expectations makes all the difference.
excellent choice for a good dinner in town!
Incredible services, more than tasty food and what can we say about the warm atmosphere. I recommend it to everyone who likes good, tasty and fresh dishes. A really good restaurant with a professional and friendly waiter. I highly recommend
I have precise instructions when I have it delivered to you and they are always followed to the letter! Never disappointed and the food is really excellent, keep it up
Unable to book at this location unfortunately
Excellent restaurant, beautiful menus. Fish and chip specialty with sweet potato fries. Very nice plate. Good choice of wine at a reasonable price. Very good choice for a pre-show dinner (Albert Dumouchel room) book in advance.
Very warm place...the food I tried was excellent...a Landmark of our beautiful city that took me almost 20 years to try....but I already cant wait to go back ...operated by a charming family... who welcomed the cream of Quebec artists... dont forget to make a reservation.... you will really love it. If you came alone to eat at the bar or have a drink...its very pleasant. Impeccable service. My compliments to the chefs.
Mmmmm! Its good! In addition to excellent service!
Good choice for the main course, delicious shrimp. Bread pudding for dessert, not ideal for celebrating a birthday: therefore, no dessert although the event was mentioned when booking. Notices and reminders to remind you how much time remains of the two hours allocated for dinner: we left before the two hours but we felt a little stressed throughout the meal...
I went to eat at this restaurant and I simply loved it!!! I will return without hesitation. I particularly liked Marco for his service.
Since opening, the best restaurant in Valleyfield!
Excellent restaurant, the shrimp at the perno are wow!!
Very nice discovery. Good meal, generous portion and sought-after flavor. Excellent Jambalaya.
Good food, excellent service and a very pleasant restaurant to have a good time. The dishes were well prepared, generous and also tasteful. Personally a little spicier would have been appreciated, given that its a Cajun restaurant, but hey, thats my personal taste. My only negative point is the sauces which are served in small disposable/recyclable plastic dishes. I dont understand this in a restaurant where you could simply put small ceramic or other serving dishes that are washable.
A real gem in Valleyfield. The appetizer and main course was perfect. A real tasty delight. And the New Orleans cocktail was terrific. I will certainly go back when I am there.
Great place for a New Orleans experience! Blues music, beautiful little terrace in summer. Its really a must!
Great food, service and cocktails.
The crab cake is different and excellent.. There is no atmosphere at this restaurant
Exceptional: I consider myself a picky eater in life. But there, WAW, what a pleasant surprise!! 100% Delicious, Impeccable Service. The waiter laughed at my jokes, but overall they werent funny. To recommend !!
Everything is so good and all with excellent service
Good dinner its expensive 2 people its good people
Well liked to discover
Delicious!
Both food and service were excellent!
Cozy place, very good service, excellent food
Loved it. Great food, fresh ingredients. Great drinks. Excellent service!
Excellent!
Food was very very good, well balanced seasoning, service was great.
Too good! A must in Valleyfield!
Nice place with a small terrace and good ambiance. Food was great! Easy to miss however, the sign for the restaurant is very small. Went past it many times and never realized it was a restaurant.
We will definitely come back; everything was perfect. The meals were excellent, as was the setting. The terrace is quite charming and romantic. THANKS!!
a good restaurant and delicious food, you have to book for the terrace.
Ordered from them a few times and I am never disappointed. Its fresh, hot and delicious! I will have to go dine in with my husband very soon!!
Probably the best restaurant in Valleyfield and the best carbonara Ive ever eaten
Beautiful evening! Everyone enjoyed their meal. Excellent service! Beautiful terrace.
Great service and my meal was delicious!! Ambiance is always a must; intimate, warm and welcoming. One of my favorite restaurants
Wow! The food is excellent! I also recommend the Jambalaya cooking box! You will never be disappointed!
1st place inside, excellent service, beautiful plate, very good flavors, a must in the region
Great atmosphere, great food, definitely enjoyed
Really amazing food, best sweet potato fries Ive had. Cozy but chic atmosphere and good service.
Wow! It was a first yesterday and wont be the last!!! Nice discovery and really very good
A great place, food and different atmosphere!
Excellent, New Orleans in QC!
Very good Creole restaurant, the prices are affordable, the dishes are succulent and the terrace is superb. Congratulations to the whole team, you are doing an excellent job. It was my first time and it wont be the last.
Impeccable service, incomparable fish and chips. Very varied menu, a place to discover!
Good service and the dishes are delicious and very refined.
I really like the flavors. The service is excellent
Very good service and great food! But would like to be welcomed without a mask with 1 smile! #Here we show a Smile!
Simply delicious :)
I had the shrimp pernod and it was delicious! We will be back soon!
Great food! Cajun atmosphere, good cocktails, good service, enough to have a good time.
Excellent food. Go on a sunny day and ask to be on the terrace cause indoors you can feel a bit crammed. I recommend the fried shrimp or jambalaya.
Jambalaya was yummy! Though, it could be more on the plate...
Good service, good food, I recommend it
The employees were very nice and the restaurant is very beautiful! However, we didnt really like our meals. We didnt really like the mix of spices in the meals. We had the Creole combo dish and the fish & chips.
Good food, the gator was delicious good service.
In one word... WOW! I recommend 100%! Everything is good!
My favorite local restaurant for a perfect romantic evening From starter to dessert... Everything was sublime!!!
Very good restaurant.
Excellent restaurant with a beautiful terrace. I recommend to everyone
Amazing food. They have take out now because of the virus, with a 15% discount. You pick up the food according to a schedule so everyone is safe and your order is cooked for your specific time. We enjoyed the blackened fish ( haddock ) topped with fresh green beans. It was moist and flakey, The flavours were amazing. Our other item was fish and chips. The fish was perfect and the sweet potato fries were divine. We will be ordering again. Stay safe and treat yourself to a succulent Cajun experience. Next time I have promised myself the crab cakes. I can hardly wait.
Very good food, good service, good atmosphere, good music, nice decoration
Excellent service, the food is delicious like every time I go there. Their wine list is impressive and offers private imports. I recommend, best restaurant in town!
The pernod shrimp are worth the detour! Try them! A delight!
Great!! Very good and good service
Really a great experience, great atmosphere in the dining room, incredible food, impeccable service! Thank you for this beautiful evening!
Very good service and extraordinary meal. Very good prices for a couples outing.
Beautiful atmosphere which is definitely worth the detour.
The best restaurant in valleyfield by far! I love that place. The food is always amazing and the staff and service is awesome. You have to try it in summer outside, its so beautiful with the lights.
Increasingly small menu and small portion for a high price
The menu is cool but not huge. It was very dark during supper. The lights are very dim but the service is excellent
Its a beautiful place and above all very good
Sometimes hard to get a reservation, so call early. Food and service are always to notch.
Food was good service as well not bad portions but a tad expensive
Great place
Absolute garbage service. Only had the calamari (which was really good) before it started to rain. They barely had a contingency plan for the rain situation. Clearly tables were open indoors but they did not want to seat me and my two Asian friends. Clearly the remaining Middle Aged, white customers were more of a priority. Only our waitress was understanding towards our situation. Rest of the staff was thoroughly incompetent. Management needs to re-train them all. I don t think they understand that 90% of the restaurant experience is having good service.
Probably one of the best restaurants in Valleyfield. The atmosphere is always there with good blues music in the background. A Cajun menu that we cant get enough of. It s an ideal place to combine dinner and a show. Make sure to book in advance!!
I loved coming here
Great food good time dining great staff
Very good food and atmosphere.
Having been to New Orleans several times, I can attest that this place is as authentic as one can reasonably expect! A little too loud, but the food was delicious. Cant wait to try it again in the summer, out on the terrace...
Great service, atmosphere and food we were very satisfied! For the first time we ate alligator!
The fried squid are the best Ive ever eaten! Nice selection of alcoholic liqueurs from Quebec :)
Was ok not my style of food
Very good
Everything is perfect in this restaurant
Best restaurant in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, food, service and atmosphere
One of my favorite restaurants! The warm atmosphere, the decor, the tasty and original food, everything is there, a delight!!!
Excellent
Excellent food...very good service!!!
The service is excellent
Good, but nothing more.... Slow service and the prices are a little expensive for what they serve.
The food is amazing, the best Bloody Caesars I ve ever had, the place has a great atmosphere, the decor and music are also on point.
Half of the menu is shrimp, the rest is pretty normal especially for the price. The restaurant is so small that it smelled like it had been fried, the terrace is poorly maintained. One of their desserts, a banana with caramel, is quite ordinary, but a good point for the lime tart
The wait was a bit long but all the food was cooked perfectly and delicious. Their key lime pie is a delish and, should yout eat on the terrace, the staff have put covers in case the weather gets frisky. Reserve early if there is a show, though: the place is very popular.
Delicious and good ambiance
Very nice evening spent with friends
5 star service and meal never disappointed every time we go there
Excellent!
Very good and beautiful place well located to go eat just before a show located opposite the Salle Albert Dumouchel
very good
Great restaurant, excellent food. To try! You must book especially on show evenings at Valspec!
I love it, it s different and above all really good, charming place and just as much the staff
Ohlala chicken martini My stomach is full The bread! The bread!
The food is delicious!!
Very good
Excellent table! I love the menu and the ambiance of this restaurant which offers a unique experience. Were going back!
one word to remember for this restaurant....wow!
Correct.
Very good restaurant
Good Louisiana cuisine. Very good service. Affordable wine list.
Yum!! Wow!! what more can I say!?
To live a succulent Louisiana culinary experience...the perfect place!
Nice place. Great service.
Good atmosphere, good food and good service.
Unfortunately, this restaurant is no longer what it used to be. The dishes have been simplified. The chicken was dry and the rice was mushy and too salty. Damage!
Excellent meal, intimate place! Well done !
Excellent! I recommend to everyone!
The service was fast, the employees super pleasant and the atmosphere was welcoming. The only negative point is that the portions are slightly too small for the price.
I loved my experience, its the second time I went to this restaurant and never two without three as they say.
Quality and total change of scenery! One of the best restaurants in the world.
Out of the ordinary dishes, good food and good service
Beautiful place and the food is excellent and the service too!
It s a mandatory stop in Valleyfield. Impeccable service, extraordinary food and incredible execution. Ive been there several times and Im going to go back until I get through the menu! And then I will go back again! A must, the choice of background music!
Very nice little place. The fried squid is good and spicy as it should be. The fish cakes are good but simple for the price. I chose the Pernod shrimp and it was delicious. Mashed potatoes are a treat. I saw the Fish n Chips plate and you definitely have to try it. Yum yum I recommend booking though.
The food is excellent and the service is friendly and unparalleled. This restaurant is worth the detour!
I would really have liked to taste the Cajun cuisine of this restaurant, supposedly with a jazz and New Orleans atmosphere. But after having taken the trouble to call beforehand to find out about the musical atmosphere of this restaurant and the waitress assured me that jazz music was played there, I went there with my wife, and as we enter, we are bombarded with hard rock. Your waitress was very kind to tell me afterwards thats how it is here... pffft! If you are looking for a restaurant where the atmosphere is hard rock, this restaurant is for you. But you wont find real jazz there. This restaurant lost a customer before he even ate there once. Its not as bad as average... And this customer is a musician. I think I know my genres and styles of music quite well. Dont come and tell me that hard rock is blues. It has nothing to do with it.
Very good restaurant! It almost feels like New Orleans and yet its right in the heart of Valleyfield! Everything is there, local specialties, cocktails. And what s more, we are served with a great smile! Were going to come back!
Great restaurant! My girlfriend and I treat ourselves to breaded shrimp quite often! To try!
Tasty at a very reasonable price. Impeccable service.
