La Traviata is the kind of restaurant you won’t soon forget, no matter how hard you try. The decor is delightfully ambiguous. It sets the stage perfectly for the food, which takes bold risks. The tortellini was an adventure in textures, from the creamy sauce to the unexpected crunch of what I’m fairly certain was undercooked pancetta. And the tiramisu? A daring reinterpretation that left me wondering if anyone in the kitchen had actually tasted tiramisu before. The service was just as unforgettable. The staff seemed to embody the spirit of Italian opera: dramatic entrances, prolonged disappearances, and a sense of tragedy when the bill arrived. If you love a meal that gives you something to talk about for years (instead of something to enjoy in the moment), La Traviata is your place. Truly, a restaurant like no other; and let’s hope it stays that way.

One of best italian restaurants in town! The bread has a well-browned crust and the crumb is soooo soft! Alla carreras is a can’t miss. I dine in by myself, chef and the staff are so nice!

Cozy Italian spot that I’m guessing is family run+owned (the owner didn’t speak English). I came with a group that just went to the beach so we showed up in sandals and swim trunks but the staff was super nice about everything. Also fun fact our waitress told us: Keanu Reeves visited their restaurant and his picture is next to the back corner booth. The bread and butter was delicious. I had the tortellini with the special sauce; amazing flavor but wish there was something extra because it got repetitive to eat by the end. Leave some bread to scoop up the sauce!

Updated: 5/21/24 Took my Dad in since he was craving Italian and he had not been to this gem. He will definitely be back to say the least! La Traviata is the most hidden spot that will have you jaw dropped every visit. This visit I had the Tortellini and was shocked that I was shocked that it tasted so good! 10/10 ALWAYS It had been about a year since we came to this spot to eat and they have not skipped a beat! From the fresh bread to start and ending with Tiramisu you leave with a full stomach and a huge smile. Even the kids enjoyed their pasta! Bread: hot and fresh out the oven you just can’t resist. Great for getting the extra sauce. Prosciutto w/ Cantaloupe: second time having this dish and it was better than the first. The cantaloupe pairs great with the prosciutto. Lasagna: Rich and Meaty with a cheese pull down to the last bite. Just the perfect size portion. Gamberi: Let’s start with the shrimp on this dish!JUMBO SHRIMP and lots of them. The flavor of this dish was very authentic with the spices and portion size is perfect as well. Tiramisu: big enough to share, very moist and one of the best out there.

Once you step inside, you are instantly transported from the (wonderful) chaos of Mission street to a peaceful, cozy restaurant that feels pulled right out of Italy. The lighting is low, the opera music gorgeous and servers very friendly and attentive. The food was authentic and delicious. The service was super fast, the bread they brought was straight out of the oven. The “sides” size of pasta was perfect for our two younger kids. The adults and teen had tortellini in cream sauce, gnocchi and pasta with mushrooms. Soooooo good.

Cozy, low lighting, very romantic. Its extremely intimate, be prepared to whisper. No dress code but expect to pay roughly $50 a person. The espresso was amazing. The desserts were great! Got the shrimp and scallops. Didn't disappoint. The gnocchi was just as good as the other reviews say! Overall a great hole in the wall.

This is me and my girlfriends go to Italian spot. We found it when we were walking by, the ambiance is perfect real candles, little roses and a beautiful intricate ceiling. The owners gave us a wall tour of all their photos and we shared wine with a regular who had his photo up from turning 21 decades ago. The fresh bread is so hot and perfectly crusty. I m a walking advertisement for this beautiful restaurant. The veal parmigiana was perfect, every pasta I ve had is so well made. 10/10 love it bringing all my loves here

I have been coming her for many years. Decades really. Its the kind of place youd want to take your parents (at least my parents). Quiet with very comfortable old school type booths , tables covered with white cotton tablecloths. The very congenial owner is the server (and frequently the chef!) along with his wife. Youll see him greeting diners and conversing with many of the patrons as they are long time customers and friends. My kind of place! Highly recommended. Parking: Usually not too tough to park. Especially if you come at night when the meters on Mission Street are free. I always park on Mission St. with no problem.

I used to never tell anyone about this spot cause how low key and amazing it is but now in hindsight that feels incredibly selfish. Ultimate date spot for a philistine bike myself. Sit down Italian in the mission but no dress code and if theres any pretension they keep it to themselves. The food is great and the wine suggestions have never done me wrong. The pictures on the wall provide plenty of conversation starters, the service is always fantastic, and you can feel its a family affair (pretty sure my busboy was like 9 or maybe 10 or 11 once, definitely a nephew or young cousin). Pasta carbonara and lasagna are not to be missed. Get the lasagna to go if you must. Watch out for that bread though, super warm and fluffy and delicious; itll kill your appetite if you let it.

The menu selections are old-school classic Italian mainstays -- but any similarity to the usual fare stops there. Our meals were PHENOMENAL in every sense. We enjoyed fork-tender (really!) veal medallions in sauce preparations that elicited moans of pleasure. Melanzane in the most exquisite marinara I have ever tasted, topped with Parmigiano Reggiano and gently broiled to a light crisp. Hand-made tortellini enrobed in a luscious creamy tuscan cheese sauce that was nothing short of perfection. For dessert: zabaglione, *magnificent* zabaglione . . . whipped to foamy perfection with marsala almost too good not to sip on its own. I cannot possibly heap sufficient accolades upon this hidden treasure of extraordinary cuisine. I have dined in Italian restaurants from Sicily to Florence, from New York to Cleveland to Chicago to Kailua and to North Beach in San Francisco -- but I must say that Ive never enjoyed an Italian meal better than my dinner tonight at La Traviata.

The restaurant is cozy, and very suitable for romantic dinners. Great selection of food for vegetarians!! The wine menu is good. We got a bottle of the Nebbiolo, which was a great compliment to the food.

We had an amazing time. Showed up on Saturday night and asked for a table for 9. They sat us right away and were very friendly. Our waiter was very attentive. An incredibly dining experience.

Very nice little Italian restaurant in the middle of busy Mission Street. The waiters where observant and quick to help. The food was excellent. Ordered the tortellini. The sauce was supreme. Absolutely worth a visit.

The service was slow, I ordered the Strataciela soup, and it was Ok. I also ordered the Polpo, the dish came on a bed of greens overflowing with dressing the Polpo looked as if came out of a can and it looked more as a calamari I dont recommend the dish, my friend ordered the Putanesca pasta and he liked it.

Delicious, Italy, France transports you to the cradle of pasta, a very cozy place as if you were at home, although a small place envelops you in its good taste of decoration. Hospitable attention, kindness on the part of the owners as well as the employees. , delicious homemade bread at the right time, the complete menu for all tastes, regular prices and good suggestions from the waiter, delicious salad, dessert and delicious coffee. A place that transports you cozy, you have to visit

WOW! This restaurant has been a treasure in the Mission for decades...picked it for 73rd birthday celebration, and it was a complete hit, with everyone! As the name implies, it was\is dedicated to the world of Opera, but in a subtle , comfy way..it burned years ago and came back strong as ever, although losing many of its original memorabilia in the fire.. With that said, food-service and ambience are top notch and dont cost an arm and a leg , also none of the precious pretentiousness that permeates the City!! Go, and have a great evening...SO GOOD!!

Such a gem! Real Italian in the mission! Italian music flooding your ears. Obvious regulars enter the restaurant eying their usual booth. They draw out the chef to speak with who engulfs them in traditional hugs and kisses! It was amazing to watch! The food.. oh my! Gnocchi was absolutely melting in my mouth. The tortalinni with the cheese was so rich. COME! EAT!

Food was decent but service was terrible. Staff misidentified the dishes, leading to a vegetarian in our group eating veal (instead of the eggplant she ordered). Careless and unacceptable.
