SanJalisco Mexican Restaurant is the destination place in San Francisco for quality authentic Mexican food. We offer dine in, take out, and catering services and accept reservations for large parties and events. Our wait staff is always friendly and our low prices and authentic regional style recipes will keep you returning for more.
While travelling through California from Europe, we learned that if we want to be sure to get really good food quality for a decent price, we should head to the Mexican restaurant. SanJalisco is the point in case, large portions (we took away half of our food), delicious food and drinks, very friendly staff. When you see local Mexican people dining there, you know it’s good! Recommending to tourists visiting San Francisco as well!
Disappointing experience. All the dishes are slightly worse than expected. The bierria goat soup is too acidic. The Roy's fish tacos are tasted like nothing. Fried plantains are decent. The micheladas were excellent though. Restaurant is small, there was a slight wait on Friday during peak hours
Great vibes at the restaurant. Came around 6 on a Saturday and did not have to wait. Everyone gets a free order of salsa and chips which were really flavorful and fresh. We ordered a rainbow trout dish which I thought was slightly disappointing. Nothing super flavorful but still good portions, would probably try something different next time. Also got the Birria lamb soup. Super flavorful and really meaty. Feels very heavy to eat as a soup as it is a lot of meat, but still good. Got the leche flan to finish off which was good for the price. Overall, good value and good vibes.
The food was delicious at a great price. The decor was so fun. The homemade tortillas were amazing.
we ordered chavi’s chorizo omelette and manitas’ chilaquiles seco. the omelette was good and the chilaquiles were REALLY delicious. the coffee was great too. we sat outside and it was really nice. the staff were extremely friendly and kind. i’m definitely coming back!
The food was nothing less then amazing!! You will not be disappointed in the quality of the food prepared here! The authenticity of this food is out of this world!! If you're a Mexican food lover, you have to check it out!!
Food was delicious specialty cocktail de cameroni , and decoration make me feel i’m in Mexican really it was very nice place
What a great restaurant we stumbled upon while in The Mission District. The decor is so much fun. Bright and cheerful. We were greeted, seated and our order was promptly. We enjoyed our cold beers and our food arrived quickly. The first bite brought me back to my childhood; my grandmother’s kitchen. The tortillas were made fresh and the flavors of the carnitas was superb!!! I WILL BE BACK!!
I love this restaurant and I ate a little bit there and brought a lot home for several meals!
Absolutely, delicious food!!!
Good service, but average food. Would not return.
very good jalapeño and cheese tamales
Love this place. Genuine, family run, Mission district restaurant from a bygone era. Best breakfast in town.
Love this place!!! We ve been going to san Jalisco for almost 20 years. The food is full of flavor and delicious. It s our go to Mexican food restaurant similar to home. We are family of five and always walk out feeling happy and satisfied. Kid-friendliness: Super welcoming. We ve been bringing our kids since they were babies. They are now 11 and 9. Super casual and when the kids were babies they would bring the food for them quickly.
Every SF native knows this is one of the best Mexican restaurants in San Francisco. Authentic, delicious, wonderful service. Family owned and a staple. I could eat here every day. Love this spot. Can t go wrong with anything you order.
Always busy, good food, and plenty of it. Gracias
Great experience! Good service and generous portions! I had an amazing vegetarian burrito!
Best Mexican Restaurant I will come here once again
Vibey Place with very original food
Sooooo .. the pozole was the best thing ever!! It was so good I forgot to take a photo of it. The service was amazing, friendly and caring individuals.
Friendly hospitality with a hint of Mexican folklore, food was delicious and with a big portion
Excellent food and service.
The best
They have the best staff! Awesome affordable food and great atmosphere. A must visit! Kid-friendliness: They are super welcoming to kids they have great very affordable kid options.
Ordered carnitas the worst one I ever had Meat is dry as f
Super good Mexican, but not good for vegetarians. The vegetarian burrito is mostly beans, rice, and cheese. Vegetarian options: Couple vegetarian options, but not great.
If we go on vacation to San Francisco we are going to eat at this place, very delicious food with Mexican flavor, very friendly staff, affordable prices... We recommend this place... Greetings from Mexicali BC!
Authentic Mexican good. Huge portions. Was not able to finish!
Very good place. My favorite dish is Chilaquiles with nopales. Vegetarian options: Just ask for chilaquiles con nopalitos to have a delicious breakfast, lunch, or dinner . Food : 4/5 |
Had THE worst mole i ve had in my entire life here, everyone else s food looked ok , but i didn t hear anyone in my party raving about anything. Micheladas were good!
This place was hoppin. We just had some queso fundido as we werent eating a meal. Quite tasty!
A better quality food than most, and decent price. Giant proportions that I could have shared. Cool interior. Whats not to recommend.
Beautiful place! Amazing colors, amazing mariachi band, and delicious (and authentic!) food. Could do it all here, bring friends or family, or have a drink at the bar. Get the traditional plates!
Mariachi band/guy will come out while you re there, awesome!
Kid-friendliness: They love kids!!! Food
The service and the food is very good, and they are very attentive, on several occasions they approached my table if it was occupying something? It is something very homely of them to do that The food is Enough, be careful what you order, because the dishes are very Abundant and the Handmade Tortillas are and sufficient. Service of 5 ! Sometimes you have to wait outside, because the place is very busy, try to arrive at a good time and find a good parking
Good service, tasty food.
The staff all looked like they just came from a funeral. Terrible vibe and energy. Not saying I need for them to do summersaults, but at least crack a smile, ONCE. As consumers, we have many options, and we chose YOUR establishment, so how about making the customer feel welcome. However, the food was good and plentiful, but probably will not go there again ...
Fast service, good guac just alot of tomatoes. Refried Beans are good.
Dont forget to try Yossies Cantina on the 7th as well. Cant go wrong at either spot! Comida Mexicana made with hands of Love!!!
Enjoyed their vegetarian flautas! Their salsa is also super good. Great atmosphere at the restaurant too. However, was a bit surprised to only get 2 flautas for the price It did come with a side of rice & beans, but I would have preferred smaller side of the rice & beans and more flautas instead.
Favorite for years. 5 stars for food, service, atmosphere, AND value.
Delicious! Best I ve ever had, not really, but nothing to really note them down on. Service was efficient and friendly, food was modifiable and tasty! Portions are massive though which is awesome! One dish can satisfy 1.5-2 people easily. Food
We ordered the worst and most expensive tacos I ever had $7.32 for a taco that s falls apart with a nasty tortilla meat tasted bad looked bad don t ever eat hear this 4.5 star is a lie the salsa taste like tomato paste now I m on my way to eat real tacos
Great food big portions and great prices
The beef flautas made my eyes roll back. Caramelised onions and peppers in it were so perfect.
Ok Im going to try not to be cruel and this is a late post, but the truth is the owner doesnt care and its obvious theyre cutting corners by microwaving and freezing pre-made food. Listen if you gave this restaurant a 5 star you need a taste because the food is bland and Im positive theyre using leftovers as well. I ordered the combo 2 sopes and a flauta. I have never in my life seen any of our people flood a green salad mix that looks like its bagged on top of sopes. The amount of greens on the sopes made them dissappear under a flood of tasteless sauce. The sopes were hard on the edges and thin in the middle. The flautas werent fleshly made either because they were hard and chewy the meat was hard and chewy. The rice had to be at least 1 or 2 day old rice microwaved. The only thing edible were the beans. I asked the young waiter if they microwaved my dish which he hesitated and said no. I knew he had to be lying Im sure its not his fault but then I witness him put a bag of chips in the microwave. That made sense as to why our chips tasted a bit stale. My cousin ordered the menudo it was . I actually noticed that the mendoza juice looked a little bubbly through out which actually means that its going bad and bacteria is growing. Im shocked no one has bern in the ER after eating here. I feel bad because this restaurant has the potential of being a 5 if they prepared the food the day of instead of using left over hard rice and frozen pre-made dishes. Most people who gave 4 to 5 stars probably dont know how to cook or a tipsy because it doesnt add up. When I complained I was offered a replacement but I refused because none of the food was good so am i going to get a replacement of dishes that arent good but I didnt get a refund even though I didnt eat my food well only ate the the beans and my drink. The host looks like she has a chip on her shoulder and didnt refund me. I will never go here again. FYI it is illegal to charge a credit card fee on a debit car in California. It doesnt matter if you use your signature when they run it as a credit card it is still illegal because a debit card is NOT a credit card. If any business does that, you need to report them to the California Consumers Department or the Attorney General For debit cards and prepaid cards, surcharging is prohibited even when the card is run as a signature-based transaction without the PIN. This restriction was implemented by the Durbin Amendment of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. The Durbin Amendment refers specifically to debit card transactions and includes the cap on interchange fees from the card networks.
Authentic and delicious
I ate there two days in a row. The food was extremely delicious and the service was excellent. Parking: Close parking is limited. Youll have to park down the street and walk to the restaurant. Well worth the walk.
Went with my wife and 2 friends. The food was okay. Not much flavor and not what I expected from a Mexican restaurant in SF. The chips and salsa were better than my carnitas burrito. The service was not good at all. The waitress took our order, brought our food and drinks, and never came back. My Coke was empty and never refilled. The ambiance was cool. It wasnt too loud, and they had music playing in the background. Overall, though, I wouldnt return to try anything else.
It was as if mi abuelita made me dinner after a long, stressful day. Couldn t have asked for anything better. Simple, fresh, and tasty. Friendly staff that laughed like family.
Delicious super burrito. good value. Authentic.
A great neighborhood spot that always has something for you. Caldo is good for these colder evenings. Breakfast served all day. Grill plates are always comforting. The best part is the homemade tortillas. Fun and vibrant decor with clever signs hidden around.
Parking: Good Kid-friendliness: Good Wheelchair accessibility: Bueno
Longtime neighborhood favorite Incredible decorations Extensive menu Food : 5/5
Very delicious and great food. No tequila when we were here! About died without a margarita! Make sure and get the Linda and the Vicente.
We arrived here and waited about 20-25 minutes to be seated because they were full and had a waitlist (no problem, we were willing to stay as this made us think it was going to be a great experience as witnessed by its popularity). Once sat, it took almost 10 minutes to put in a drink order. We attempted to also order an appetizer but were told no, that another waitress would take our order. Another 15 minutes pass by in which the table of 3 who were seated after us already had their drinks and food-we still havent been able to even order at this point. I flagged a waitress down who was cleaning another table and asked to order; she wad pleasant and said someone would be right with us. We ordered and the person who assisted us was friendly. Maybe 10 minutes pass by and my partners food came out. Mine never showed and nobody ever came back to our table to deliver it or explain what was going on (I ordered mole enchiladas-not something that takes an extended amount of time to prepare). Finally 15 minutes later I flagged a other waitress down who sent over the original waitress, telling me there was a mistake with my order so they were remaking it. I was extremely annoyed at this point as the service was absolutely not there for such a popular place. I forgot to mention, the earlier table being cleaned was already full of two patrons who were drinking & eating their food yet I was still waiting. This was two tables that were sat right after and far after us who were promptly served. My enchiladas come out soon after and everything looked great except for the tomatoes that Id requested off. My partner enjoyed his fish tacos aside from the lack of sauce and repeated requests for limes. The ambiance is special and the decor is nice, but the overall service (mainly lack thereof) is what prompts this negative review. Its worthy to note that the presumed regulars visiting this restaurant were taken care of with speedy service (waitresses hugging & conversing with patrons) while we never even got a single drink refill.
I dont recommend seafood. He comes to life, tasting more like ketchup than anything else. When trying to move the saucer, it got all over my clothes and it took a while for someone to help me at least with napkins or a cloth. When the rocker realized it, he left me a few napkins and disappeared (he was busy). At the moment I was embarrassed to tell them something and out of pure shame I paid for everything plus tip and left sad and hungry.
Love this place
The service and food are excellent! The staff is attentive, friendly, and helpful. There were plenty of vegetarian options. The tortillas are handmade. The space is nicely decorated and very pleasant.
Had the Chile Verde pork and it was delicious. Service was quick and very friendly. Lovely place to eat good food.
The food is good
Delicious and authentic food. Super cool and relaxed environment
Here is my review of the San Jalisco Mexican Restaurant. San Jalisco has the ingredients of success. Most definitely the food is authentic, freshly made, and plentiful. Our service was outstanding and friendly. The location is perfectly away from the chaos of Mission Street. San Jalisco is a great date night restaurant. Parking: The SFMTA has restricted parking with its slow streets campaign Wheelchair accessibility: The entrance and tables look ADA compliant
I had the Mole, it was amazing!
Amazing wait staff!! Would highly recommend!
One of my fave spots to grab brunch in the city. Highly recommend great food and amazing service!
First off the service here is wonderful, fast and friendly!! The waitresses are always so nice and accommodating. The mole is hands down the BEST we have ever had and the other dishes are all delicious - you won t go wrong with anything you order. This is our favorite Mexican restaurant and we have been to many. We look forward to coming here for many years to come. Vegetarian options: We had the vegetarian sopes and the tacos Durados (filling is a potatoe purée with not too spicy jalapeños) a they were both finger lickin!! And we are NOT vegetarians and we enjoyed these options
Good authentic Mexican home style restaurant, nothing to write home about but definitely good for a backup plan if somewhere near is booked. Horchata is amazing one of the best Ive had. Live performance was very nice and entertaining. enfeijol
Nice, the food was good, a little expensive in my opinion, but the atmosphere of the place makes up for it, colorful and eye-catching
The good is really good, i usually get the posole! The portions are plenty, i usually stay full for the rest of the day with 1 bowl!!
Excellent quality of service and friendliness of the people and not to mention the food
Sooooooooo good Vegetarian options: Not too many options but the options are amazing so it doesnt matter. Food : 5/5 |
Good rainy day lunch
Good size portions, good prices, good service, love it!
Quite authentic Mexican food and incredibly well served!! Possibly a meal for two with each plate! Highly recommend the Queso fundido or choriquezo! Pro tip ask for their homemade corn tortilla!
Always wonderful food and service. Have don t both take out and eating in place. My favorite is Birria the soup but only available on Sunday. Which are usual very busy. Food
Pretty delicious and authentic. A mariachi band came in half way through
Very cute, I loved the food! We got the Michelada, queso fundido, chile verde, and bistec mexicana. Very flavorful and good portions for the price Food
LOOK.
Very small portion. Nice place though
The bomb
Excellent service and very good attention
I had the Pork Chile Verde really delicious.
Very authentic good service
We had a great lunch here Super family friendly Feels like your home kitchen I will absolutely come again
Had the mole poblano, a Oaxaca chocolate, brown sauce. Yum. Chicken was shredded, delicious, but I prefer a piece of chicken. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Good service even though they were hopping busy. Large breakfast portions and the house made tortillas are great.
Great spot in the mission to have some authentic Mexican food. They have a very vibrant and eclectic vibe that is in itself worth coming to experience. The portions of all the items are worth what you pay and theres a multitude of items to choose from on the menu. Its also away from all the hustle and bustle of the city and has outdoor seating for the nicer days in the city. Highly recommend this spot
When in the Mission this is the place to go and enjoy great food and made to feel at home. Ive gone there for many years with my good friend Rich never disappointed. San Jalisco is the spot Wheelchair accessibility: They will accommodate
Cant say enough... Best chilaquiles in the bay area. I cant seem to get my self to order anything else when I go. Staff are so warm and feels like family.
Good food
Great food real authentic Mexican food
Nice place to relax with a nice dinner
exuberant decor
Yum.
I hate to do this cause the food was good but after eating here Sunday during the Carnival festival with a group of 8 friends 6 of us had food poisoning after eating here. I m only writing this review because the owners should be aware that one of their employees is most likely cross contaminating food and getting people sick. Which is not going to be good for business. I hope they can figure out who s not using proper hygiene in the kitchen.
The beef broth and chilaquiles are the best.
A very nice place, very delicious food and very good service.
A place with Mexican food with very good seasoning, good service Wheelchair accessibility: There are no steps to enter
Great breakfast
Delicious and authentic. Chilaquiles and carne asada, best breakfast Fathers Day breakfast ever.
We didnt have the experience of the other reviewers. One persons plate had clearly been microwaved for several minutes- the cheese had crusted completely around the edges, beans exploded, etc. Side of pinto beans was clearly canned and completely unseasoned. Youd be better off making your own at home.
Solid and honest Mexican food with very friendly service. The menu is very broad. The atmosphere is friendly. This is more Southern California Mexican food than San Francisco Mission style.
Carnitas was rather disappointing. All else was fine.
Loved the live music and food was excellent!
Excellent Eatery
Excellent traditional Mexican cuisine! Has take out if you want their taqueria items. Love their soups, especially their weekend+Mondays specials. My go to is their goat birria + tortillas that comes with chips with salsa while waiting.
Nice Mexican food, big portions, good prices Absolutely come here again Food
Nothing to say except wow. Well, and they serve enough food on one order, I enjoyed it for three days, and these corn tortillas are all handmade. Food : 5/5
Very lively, authentic place! They have birria! De chivo! Do I need to say more!
Good Mexican food.
I got the carnitas plate, and oh boy, I dont regret a bit since it was my first time visiting this outstanding place. Everyone working there was super busy but really friendly while I was waiting for my takeout food. Next time, Ill make myself time to eat there instead. Decoration is unique and original for a Mexican restaurant. Prices are very affordable, and the food is real Mexican taste. Im definitely going back. !!
Very good
Great place to have Mexican food. The atmosphere was amazing. Friendly staff, colorful decoration and a live mariachi band as well! Vegetarian options: They have a good vegetarian burrito
We ordered the Pollo en Mole. It was way too sweet - Like eating sugar. Degusting
Delicious pozole. Looks authentic to me
My first time here and it was excellent. I will be returning alot. Great menu and specials. Huge portions Kid-friendliness: My ten year old niece loved it too
Huge burrito. Pretty good but nothing really special. Kitch decor, probably typical. Good but I found better.
Delicious food great prices!
Visited San Francisco had great time food is wonderful live mariachi man sang happy birthday was awesome
Ordered the Carnitas Plate with refried beans. The portions are fantastic, lots of big chunks of delicious carnitas. Plenty of very flavorful refried beans. Fresh and tasty guacamole/ pico de gallo. The warm corn tortillas are made in house, they really elevate the whole meal, absolutely delicious. Service was friendly, quick, and very efficient. Complimentary chips and salsa were very good. My only gripe about my entire experience here was the rice should have been fresher, it was very dry. San Jalisco is definitely putting out excellent food at reasonable prices and very good service. Looking forward to my next time eating here to try a different dish. Highly recommend this business
Amazing food with huge portions at good prices... and with a friendly atmosphere with beautiful decorations, this is one of the best restaurants in SF without a shadow of a doubt
Cute spot, good food and great service.
I was just tooling around minding my own business when I spotted the San Jalisco Mexican Restaurant, so I called my pal Triple E LeakPeeler to join me in some tacos de Birria, he was all in, and just 5 minutes away at his familys Chartarossa factory. Man-O-Man were those tacos great! 5 stars all day long.
Nice quaint little lotería themed place. Food was good. There was a line out the door that is always a good sign but that added some pressure to not mingle too much. Food was good. Service was good too but everyone was a bit rushed understandingly.
WE BEEN COMING TO THIS RESTAURANT FOR YEARS EXCELLENT SERVICE, EXCELLENT FOOD !!!
Friendly staff, good selection and great food. Would definitely come back!
Wow wow and wow again....well worth driving 40-50 miles to go and eat their if u love far away....their hibiscus juice was out of this world refreshing....had an amazing breakfast once and 2 other times incredible burritos.....if u dont like the live murriachi music then your an idiot, go see a doctor
One of the best wet burritos. Delicious food
This olace has been the bomb since they opened their doors the 1st time. Come for breakfast, brunch, or lunch. This place will sort you out. SFGOLD Food
A nice place to enjoy Mexican food; You should arrive with extra time since if you arrive during peak breakfast time you will have to wait up to 40 minutes. The waitresses are very friendly, the food service is fast and hygienic.
I love going to this restaurant but Saturday after seeing the Blue Angels was wonderful with my family members , loved eating outside al fresco
Great service and great food, Dolores the owner and Sophie, her daughter are wonderful people
Best homemade Mexican food in the city.
Real Mex,
This establishment has a solid reputation of serving the freshest food. I either order the green enchiladas or the mole. The chicken is moist seasoned well. The Verde is delicious there seems to be just enough to cover the fluffy Spanish rice. This is a must visit restaurant...study the menu find you a new favorite dish or two or three. The wait staff are pleasant, professional and ready to serve you.
So amazingly good & reasonable.
Very good excellent. Excellent service and food
Just go
I love this little place. The waitstaff is quick and efficient, and the carnitas Tacos Dorado and a cheese enchilada with green sauce combination is my fav. My pal had chicharones, and another had enchiladas with mole. All the chairs have loteria card chair backs, there are Dia de Los Muertos tchotchkes everywhere, the decor is so charming.
Always the Best
Good food and well placed location even if hard to find parking. Can be over crowded many times. Be prepared to wait but worth it for the occasional food jaunt
Nice place to grab a meal and spend time with friends.
All delicious, good dishes, on this occasion I had the Menudo and it was very good and my other companions were also very satisfied, I will return.
The food is very delicious, friendly and very fast service, good prices, pleasant atmosphere The chilaquiles with roast beef are delicious! Highly recommended, I would return.
Great Mexican food in the Mission. I come all the way from the Richmond for their flautas and/or Pizole.
Got a flauta and an enchilada. Both were delicious.
Really delicious Mexican food, based on traditional favorites with specialties in the mix(soups, ribs, albondigas)as wel as breakfast and more. Always friendly staff and great food!
