2779 Mission St, San Francisco, CA 94110, United States
Busy, no-frills Mexican eatery and late night joint serving comfort food like tacos and burritos.
Super Quesadilla (carne asada): 10/10. Just amazing! Iloved how they put everything together... so when the carne, salsa, cheese, avocados, etc.. all of the flavors from each element were all released into the quesadilla that was being made. Because of how thin and small they cut up the carne, I request them to make the carne well done (bien doradita). Because the carne was well done, it enhances the flavor profile of the meat - nicely charred, with a nice crust on the outside, while still juicy and tender on the inside. The only down side is that, because they cook the salsa with the quesadilla, it can get soggy very quick, so it is highly recommended to finish it ASAP. FINAL REMARKS: Best quesadilla in the city in my opinion. I come here often.
Great Mexican spot in a pretty sketchy area of the Mission. Love their super burrito and quesadillas! Food always comes fast and is delicious. Would be cool if they took cards but that’s probably the only downside of this place. Id recommend getting food to go and eat it in Dolores park otherwise their patio on the back is minimalistic but cosy.
The burritos are okay but certainly overhyped. I had the carne asada and pastor super burrito and it was missing a lot. They barely have cheese and avocado, the tortilla could benefit a lot from toasting it a bit, and the meats were underwhelming as well as the sauce. A great burrito for less than 10 dollars? yes. Convenient location and hours? yes. Worth the line? No. They only take cash.
Incredible food, got a super burrito with carne asada for $9.25, very worth it. They also have complementary chips and salsa. Service was fast, they delivered it to our table. There was graffiti on the walls, even inside, but no other issues/disturbances. Overall a very worthwhile spot.
Ordered a carne asada burrito; with plenty of meat, it's tender and well seasoned. A solid burrito with a good rice to filling ratio, the only exception being that there was a little too much excess tortilla. Overall a good experience and quick service despite the well-deserved line.
Definitely overhyped, had the super steak burrito 'Dorado style' as reccomended and shrimp and pork tacos. From Australia with very few quality Mexican food, I was expecting more taste.
This was one our stops during our day trip in San Francisco. A friend of our recommended the super taco with steak so we each had one. The meat was seasoned so well! The avocado was also very fresh. It was a fantastic taco and worth it for sure.
Best Mexican food I’ve ever had, the burrito is particularly incredible. So Flavorful and the al pastor pork style makes the difference. Would come everyday if I was living in SF And the cheapest burrito I’ve encountered in the district ! > patio at the back of the restaurant to eat
Easily my favorite burrito place in SF. Prices are awesome too -- the super burrito is $10.
They say that every time you fire a gun it makes you a tad bit more republican. Similarly, with every bite of the Al Pastor burrito I took, I turned from someone who considered American burritos emblematic of everything wrong with America - that bloated, greased up, junked up version, into someone who thinks maybe not all of the American excess is terrible. 5/5 stars
Its about to be 2025. Cant be cash only no more. I get it you want to make money off the ATM
Best place after a night out. Love their burritos
THE BEST TACOS IN SF! Great tacos. Great food. Well flavored meats. Not stingy w the meat in your meal unlike other places.
This is a great little hole in the wall restaurant for Mexican food.
This is an economical place
Easily the best burrito I ve ever had. The prices are amazing for absolutely spectacular food. I will recommend this place to everyone and anyone!!
Biggest thing to be honest about it
The food was fabulous the people that were working on the counter were very helpful and listen to all of our requests and made it exactly how we asked they were very friendly and they smiled and were very happy
Honestly, I came to this place expecting some delicious tacos, but I was surprised to have some of the worst tacos Ive ever eaten. Very disappointed
It s very frustrating that you place an order on the phone ahead of time and when you get there your order it s not ready for picked you (plus they take forever to make your food). Also it s the only Farolito that takes cash only, they have an ATM but you have to pay a 4 dollars fee. Not coming back to this specific place!
Perfect late night eats
Bomb food all year around, made infront of you at the time you make the order, being open for many, many years, with a taqueria or two in most citys around the frisco bay,,food is delicious,..
Great for a late late late night snack! Long waiting lines and few spots to sit. Kid-friendliness: Não.
Every time I get nachos I get diarrhea and stomach pain the next day but I dont really care because the nachos are so good. One time there was a pigeon in the kitchen and another time someones dog shat on the floor and made the whole restaurant stink. Its definitely super unsanitary, I never see them use gloves. Sometimes I see them touch their nose/face and then continue touching food with their bare hands and dirty fingernails lol. I still keep eating it though cuz its cheap, yummy, and quick. Probably knocking some years off the end of my life but its chill
The food in general has good seasoning. The guys are very fast and experienced at their work. I love that you can see how they are preparing your food. My favorites are the tongue and head tacos. Keep in mind that, mainly, on weekends at night you will have to stand in a long line to order, pay and then wait for your food. But its worth it, you might save a little time if you order ahead.
Best late-night nachos in San Francisco hands down
I recently visited El Farolito, hoping for a satisfying burrito, but what I got was nothing short of a disaster. First off, the meat was so overcooked and burnt that it had the texture of charcoal, not to mention the bitter, acrid taste it left behind. I m not sure how anyone in the kitchen thought that was acceptable to serve. Then there were the beans oh, the beans. Instead of the rich, savory flavor you d expect, they were oddly pungent, like they d been sitting out for too long. The smell alone was enough to make me question if they were even fresh. It was like the restaurant had perfected the art of making beans taste bad, which is quite a feat, but not in a good way. To top it all off, the tortilla was stale, and the fillings were sloppily thrown together with no care for balance or presentation. I left feeling sick to my stomach, both from the taste and the experience. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of this place if you value your taste buds and your digestive system.
Overall I loved it Thanks for a great experience and thank you very much FOR AN AMAZING QUESADILLA DIOS MÍO QUE RICO Food : 5/5
It was disappointing, it was recommended so many times that this place is in San Francisco tourist recommendations. I thought I should definitely go, but what I ate was a normal burrito. It was not bad at all and it was a very big burrito for its price, full of meat. But as soon as a city recommendation was written definitely go here, we officially changed our path. If its on your way, go there. I recommend it to those who like lots of meat.
Still the best burrito in town.
Iconic spot, line is fairly long, but the prices are excellent for the quality of food. Remember to bring cash.
Way overrated. Food had no flavor Place is also a dump Food : 1/5
The most delicious super nachos ever. And the best part is it costs around 11.00
Good food and good service I lovet
24th and mission. Late night. Cash only. Super burrito. Whats not to love?
Visited here for the first time a few days back. Great selection of foods, good atmosphere and customer service. Will definitely be visiting again soon.
Good food Kid-friendliness: Quesadilla swisa Food : 5/5 |
Bit more flavoring needed.
Burritos were great for the price but not the best burrito in the mission
We came on a recommendation and the truth is that it was a success. The place is good, it is cheap and the food is very good, the service very pleasant. The truth is that I would return without hesitation. Highly recommended.
Delicious, very friendly and very good service. The price is very good, although the entrance is not very pretty, the place is clean and has a large area to eat at the end. We will repeat.
Dont expect anything fancy but its pretty reasonably priced, hot and fast. Great place for a quick bite while exploring the Mission at night. The Quesadilla Suiza is a thin slightly greasy cut of meat thats the entire size of the tortilla and its perfect for soaking up a drink or two.
Food was great and cheap, but felt like an unsafe area and the restaurant smelled of urine.
Very good mission burritos. Bustling lively atmosphere. Always busy.
Carne asada was incredibleee so well seasoned and grilled to perfection and tender and YUMMY!! Great value and very satisfying 10/10
Good Mexican food at a good price. Friendly and fast staff. A safe proposition.
Fantastic huge burritos. The green salsa is amazing
Was overcharged on several occasions. Told we dont have a different button for the vegetarian burrito which is posted on the menu with a lower price.
I got a carne asade (steak) super burrito After my second bite, I noticed I was continuously chewing and the thing in my mouth was not breaking down it was a rubber band
Not its fault that the area is a little intimidating...
There food is pretty good the only thing that I would say that makes this place pretty cool is that they stay open until midnight so if u are in San Francisco and want a burrito late night then this is the place to go
One of the BEST in SF!
Good steak tacos, no frills. Cash only.
Food has gone downhill.the tortilla was burned and the meat was astonishingly dry and stringy.i tried eating it by itself but the taste was so unbearable i couldnt eat it without dip and even with that toward the end It got so bad that I just left it on top of a garbage can for somebody who was hungry to pick up
Glad I found this spot and checked it out, nice hole in the wall taco spot and cash only. The tacos were loaded up, dressed perfectly and the meat was so flavourful. I recommend the carne asada, beef lengua tacos and of course you need to get the horchata with the meal.
Waited in line to eat a taste less Burrito, I had high expectations because I read reviews before goin and was disappointed. My first and last time goun there. Service was great. Food
Terrific food. Excellent selection. Very nice attention to detail and food presentation.
Lengua burrito is $5 extra and comes with almost no lengua. Burrito was mostly rice and beans. El farolito used to be good
El Farolito will always have a special place in my heart for one reason: on our wedding night, we stopped by here after drinking and dancing for hours, ravenous with hunger. We had run on adrenaline most of the day but we needed real food and when your new bride wants nothing more than veggie nachos, you abide. With the meter running outside, I walked past a line of at least 40 people to the register, fully in my wedding tux. I spoke to the cashier in my best Spanish explaining our situation and that her Mom was even from the same county as the owners. He looked at me for a second, looked at the long line I had just cut, and asked me what I wanted. I gave him my order and he said 5 minutes. 10 minutes later, we were devouring our good in our living room, in our full wedding garb. Epic kindness on a special night. Even without that story, EF was in my top 2, right there with Taqueria Cancun. This is as legit as it gets, an expert shop that moves more business in a day than several other local ones combined. Come ready to order, dont ask for recommendations, learn the system and things will go well for you. Feb 15, 2014
The food is excellent, this small restaurant in a popular area was a very good surprise..
Best burritos in town, a must if youre visiting or from town.
Excellent service, and delicious food, it looks better than it tastes. I can dare to say that much more delicious than the same food in Mexico, I and my husband loved it.
Their Burritos are built for delicious .
Nice!
Great food, great service, great hours
Worst tacos in the US
Amazing food at super affordable prices! My pastor burrito was amazing, if a bit greasy, while the asada nachos were okay but tough to chew. So I recommend avoiding beef. They can take a few minutes to get your order but cook it quickly. The ambiance is meh so Id take food back home or to a park. Its also extremely busy during any lunch or dinner time so I would recommend going during odd hours. Dont go to their sister locations, theyre much worse. Parking: Terrible parking but its right next to the 24th and Mission BART station Wheelchair accessibility: Its a tight squeeze but you should be able to wheel around fine. There are no steps nor ramps.
Dirty, cheap, delicious. They dont need my help. Place is still legit
Burritos are amazing here as well as their tacos. Their lines can get pretty long but worth the wait. Its one of the better burritos I have ever tried in the bay area. Totally recommend it. I ordered the super suiza quesadilla as well as the carne asada burrito. The burrito is super juicy and tender. The portions are huge as well. The workers here are very professional and super fast. Cant wait to try the rest of their menu.
Mouth wateringly good super quesadilla with steak. Fast service, huge portions and good price.
The food is gross. Any of the other local taco shops is better. The reason this place has good reviews is because drunk people go here late at night and alcohol makes this taste better.
fire. wish i had a bigger stomach
6.5 or maybe 7. Torta and burrito were both great and a solid standard to judge other taquerias
If I had to pick a last meal this is a top contender.
The food was authentic, the meats were fresh, the salsa was awesome. I recommend this place. Its a hole in the wall type atmosphere, but the food is worth it. I had the best lengua burrito ever. We shared delicious meaty nachos, and my daughter said the tacos are delicious. Definitely going back!
I think this was my first burrito ever. I had the Super Burrito and it was absolutely amazing!
Great food and a nice place out of the business to eat it. Great value.
You dont come here for the atmosphere, you come here for the Super Quesadilla Suiza, the cibollitas, and the quacamole. Never pass up the chance to eat here when visiting The City.
Delicious
The food is good at this location they only accept cash prices are good! Definitely would recommend this location!
this place makes me wonder how Chipotle stays in business. you get a much better burrito at a much better price. they have all sorts of different meats and their burritos are a work of art.
My wife and I love coming to get some tasty burrito/quesadilla action. It s been an incredible time enjoying the energy and vibes of this place. I love the cooks, watching them whip up delicious food. It s incredible.
Served other people before me and didnt call out my order number
fire food and good prices. some tios in the back got that char on the asada perfect. fresh meat made that day not like sumn spots round the way using ground beef from the day before
The best Mexican food at great cheap prices in thecity! Wheelchair accessibility: For dinning in Food : 5/5 |
Delicious burritos. Al pastor is fire.
burrito will make you go to sleep if you manage to finish it salsa is fire
Good quality Mexican food for a bargain basement price.
Very good food and very frenly staff.
Me & my cousin ordered some nachos literally like 30 minutes ago . & the chips on both nachos were stale . & barely had any sour cream
Cheap, fast, basic, cash only
My favorite burrito spot in the mission
One of the best burritos in California. Exactly what youd expect from a Taqueria with this much atmosphere.
Food was great and I couldn t believe that you can still get an almost 4 pound burrito for $9. The only downside is the area was fairly sketchy and the eating area had a lot of flies.
! LOVE this place ¡ Was too excited to eat the food and almost forgot to take a picture. We ordered carne asada and pastor tacos, both were delicious with a nice kick from the salsa. Price is good and food is great. Highly recommend.
quesadillas hit the spot after a night out but pass on the tacos. cash only. carne asada taco: pretty flavorless
If you want a real burrito and and the real feel of a hole in da wall, then this is the place for you. Cash only so dont try to pull out your debit, or credit card. Also dont walk around with your cell phone and camera in hand, ya just might get it snatched in that area.
So Delicious We got tacos & Enchilada plate Food
The food was delicious and the staff were super helpful! Great food + great service = Great experience. Definitely recommend.
Delicious burrito, quick service, and super inexpensive. And they have beer! Get cash before you visit.
The food was fairly decent; I ordered steak tacos. The atmosphere was not the best as I had expected more because of all the reviews; therefore I assume most are because of the food. All was going well until we got our bill and I tried explaining to the waitress that the bill did not seem right. Eventually, she went to get the manager and while trying to explain to him the same, he was ignoring me and only kept saying, So you don t want to pay? It was a very frustrating experience. I don t see myself returning here all due to the service alone!
Good food, large portion, low price. Complementary chips and salsa. Fast service. Cash only but they have an ATM inside. Plenty of seating inside and in the back covered patio. We had a wet super burrito with steak and normal super burrito with al pastor which were delicious and very filling. -1 because restroom didn t have toilet paper and the sign on the door said ask cashier for access but you actually just need to turn the handle while pushing the door in to open it.
Great burrito place, authentic super burrito
Good tacos and lengua burrito
Very good and cheap excellent place
Best Food-Price related. I totally recommend the super burrito and super quesadilla. The best burritos and prices in all of San Francisco. Love it :)
Staff was fast and friendly. The food was great. Always a late night staple in the mission but great any time of the day.
Very very good and tasty
Excellent restaurant, the prices are comfortable and the food is very delicious, I will return soon! Vegetarian options: There are multiple vegetarian options, especially in the burritos, which I always recommend ordering the super size. Kid-friendliness: There are always police officers around the place, the local staff constantly checks to make sure everyone feels comfortable.
Service was great and quick. Location and bathroom need to be updated. For the price you get a lot of food. In terms of quality La Taqueria down the street is much better but is also a lot more expensive.
Quick service, cash only, solid food. I honestly liked the quesadilla over the burrito so I say order both and decide for yourself! Dont forget the salsas and to add avocado.
Cracked. Succulent. Unbelievable.
Best burritos in SF. Good prices. Usually a bit of a line but goes quickly.
Cash only. Dine in or take out. Choice of protein. Had the burrito and it was warm and flavorful. Can also order plate meal, nachos, and sandwiches. Food : 5/5 |
The best tacos in San Fran mission district. The super burrito will leave you full and satisfied.
I think their cash only haven t been here in a while. My favorite thing is the carne asada fries.
Great food. Great price. Nice sides.
Un burrito tan grande te espera. excelente. A place I highly recommend. Food
Legend.
Love this place but they re extremely stingy with the salsas even after asking for more, they need to bring the self serve station back
Love this place the old late night spot
One of the best burritos in the Bay Area!
The meals are worth my budget, (now I understand that they do all they can for customer service) service may appear to be unpredictable at times. Esp. if dont hear carefully out for your order number so make sure that you keep your eyes peeled for what you have ordered. Otherwise, Taquería El Farolito is such an excellent place to eat at; my favorite spot at that place for eating in is in the backyard. Very peaceful.
Delicious food (I recommend the torta). Its always busy but the line moves fast and they make the food efficiently. Good amount of seating in the inside and back patio. There is a bathroom and there are hand washing sinks too. Its cash only. Parking: Not much street parking around here because its busy (and it doesnt have any dedicated parking) but its right next door to a BART station!
This place is gross, but if you like this, imagine how much better things get when youre not drunk and upgrade. Juss sayin.
best burrito I ve had in my life
Great food when everything or almost everything is closed. Thank you
Perhaps slightly overhyped. Was expecting more out of the al pastor I guess. Turned out to just be another burrito. It had a Sichuan aroma to it though? The oils that seeped out of the meat gave off that feel. For less than $9 though, its quick power food though. Nice if youre around and hungry.
Its something else, and the vibe
All of their beans are vegetarian. Vegetarian options: All the beans are vegetarian. The menu does not make that very clear. There are a couple of veggie burritos on the menu, but youll have to order the exact toppings you want (e.g. beans) if you want veggie nachos or tacos quesadilla.
The food is good
I moved out of SF and this is one of the places I truly miss.
Great mexican food, open late. Staple of the neighborhood.
Quesadilla head all the way!
Best taqueria in SF. Theres always a line out the door. You know the food is fresh. Theyre open late night, so great after concerts, games or the club. Parking is tough during the day, but late night, theres alot of street parking. Its CASH ONLY here, so stop by an ATM first. But there is one inside too. All the food is good. Except the tortilla chips, were not a fan of them. Theyre pretty quick, average wait 10-15 min, everything is made to order. Prices are great too. Super burrito $9.25 and theyre like pillows. I love the green (verde) sauce. The red one has a kick. Atmosphere is relaxed. They have inside and outside seating. But theres usually one or two weirdos standing around asking for money or food.
At this point in my life I think I m averaging 2.5 burritos a week. Thank you for El Farolito
I have been to all the Farolitos. And they do not miss. Go. Get some food. Any food. And eat it there. Guaranteed you will have enough food to fill you up. Or take leftovers home for another meal. It amazes me that they all deliver in their own way and they hit it out of the park. Had a carnitas burrito which was delicious. And some tacos de Asada, that were the perfect Appetizer.
Saw it on the SF Eater, did not disappoint. Super Burrito was huge, good, and cheap. Open late, which saved my life, lol.
Late night, huge burritos, and fun clientele
You dont come here for the ambiance or service you come here for the food, which is great.
Best nachos I ve ever had BY FAR. I cannot explain how good they were. This is the typical local spot that will have the most authentic Mexican dishes in the area. 100% recommended. It s cash only by the way, so prepare ahead.
The food was amazing. The serving size was more than I could handle. The flavor was authentic. I was visiting from Viera, Florida and would give anything to have a food with such great flavor in our area. I wasnt however a fan of the atmosphere. The seating was limited and we had to wipe off our own table prior to eating. The resturant was cash only, which in todays time is inconvenient.
Had the famous burrito, and it did not disappoint. 10/10. Best meal I had on my trip to S.F.
The food and their prices are worth the wait in line
After returning back SF, we immediately searched for another great spot and found this great place. We are so full.
Despite a slight discrepancy in pricing compared to the menu, the quality and flavor of the food more than made up for it. We ordered two super burritos, which totaled around $26 instead of the expected $18.50 according to the menu. The burritos were generously filled with flavorful ingredients, including rice, beans, fresh tomato, onion, cilantro, and salsa. We opted for the lengua (beef tongue) and triipas (intestine), and both were cooked to perfection, tender and savory. The portion sizes were ample, ensuring we left feeling satisfied. One thing to note is that El Farolito only accepts cash, so be sure to come prepared.
Use to bounce in the city in the 90s and 2ks, I would always come here after and I would always order the super quesadilla. Many years later I came with my wife n son and I ordered the same thing and it was like yesterday. Food was great, my son said he never had a super burrito with so much flavor and heavy. My wife got the same as me but with chicken and she loved it too.
