Pupusas in a variety of flavors offered along with other Latin American staples in a humble space.
Oh my god! This place is amazing. The food is phenomenal and one of the cheapest restaurants in san francisco with such great food. Me and my friend ordered two pupusas with rice flour, yucca fries, empanadas. The chicken pupusa which I had was very delicious and had good amount of chicken filling inside, paired with the hot sauce and coleslaw, it was heart filling. I loved how crispy the rice flour was. The yucca fries were good but we had to add some sauce and pepper for our taste buds. Empanadas were perfectly cooked and so soft and sweet inside. Our food came within 20 mins on a busy Sunday afternoon. Must visit!
I’d highly recommend rice flour pupusa. Corn is good but rice flour is more crunchy and tasty, 2 times delicious than corn one.
delicious and authentic flavors! i got bean and cheese and revueltas and the beans and plantains on the side were incredible. reasonably priced and open late!
There pupusas were delicious. Very cheesy and tasty. I got a mushroom and zucchini pupusa and they were delightful. They have a variety of juices and our favorite is the guayabana (soursop). ☺️
Great first time dining here! The pupusas are perfect! Not oily, which is a problem at a lot of other pupuserias! Very tasty and authentic food. Not too crowded. Wait time was not too bad. I am very glad this place was recommended to me by a friend.
My friends highly recommended this place to me, and I tried it for the first time today. It definitely met my expectations. Their combo menus are best-sellers and they are really satisfying. You can choose your own meat, which is great. The food was delicious. One of their most popular menu items is the mushroom garlic, but I didn't try it because I don't like mushrooms. Just something to keep in mind!
First time trying pupusa's and they did not disappoint. Its a basic, self-serve place, with lines that can get long especially on weekend nights. Friday evening had us waiting for about 10 mins in line to place our order. As an indian, it is hard to not draw a parallel to a cheese-stuffed paratha, but with a twist. Glad to see that they have plentiful veg and non-veg stuffing options. I tried the mushroom-garlic pupusa, the chicken pupusa, and the pollo en salsa roja (chicken breast curry style in a thick tomato sauce). The combo plates come with slaw and cream/guac or fried plantains. There is also a dessert with fried plantains and cinnamon, which was unique. All the food was great, although a little mild for my palette (I asked them for alot of jalapenos on the side since they don't have a hot sauce). Also, its open till 2am and would make for great late-night grub food.
Ordered combo #2 ( 2 pupusas, beans, rice) and a bunch of stuff. The pros: - taste is authentic - the pupusas aren’t greasy, they are just right - beans were amazing - has that small hole in the wall feel that you know your about to have a great meal feel - weird atmosphere but it works Cons: - pricy but hey it’s SF - slow service but hey it’s a busy restaurant - parking is scarce Overall it’s definitely worth it and I highly recommend this place!
The food is always delicious the staff are always kind and accommodating. Perfect after a night out
My favorite restaurant in the whole world. My favorite meal of my whole life. I get sad thinking about Panchitas.
First impressions are important, The was good except for I found a small black curly hair on my food my plate of food was l lukewarm. The Horchata was excellent El Salvador,is better than Mexican Horchata, but I like them both. oh the place felt a little bit grimy. It was pretty busy, the setting was crowded The menu was on the wall painted like a big mural so a lot of people stare around at you while you re eating. Noticed that the order wasn t right but I didn t wanna go back and stand in a long line because it was pretty busy. 16th and Valencia is not a safe neighborhood lots of homeless and mentally ill people walking up and down the streets screaming / people sleeping, doing whatever they do in the streets. The usual SF norm. This was on a Wednesday evening like around 6PM You re better off doing takeout or delivery. Probably won t go back. But if you like that kind of atmosphere and you re ok with all that. Hey, feel free have and fun.
Mushroom and garlic are my favorite pupusa. This is my spot!!!
This place has probably the best papusas in the Bay Area. Friendly staff They also Have a catering truck that they host on the weekends. Kid-friendliness: They let kids in. Wheelchair accessibility: I think that might be a problem.
I wouldn t know, I never got my food. 45 mins for 2 papusas. 45 mins. I asked twice what was up, I was then late for my show, and I had to leave without having anything. They told me that it was still coming. I used to love this place.
Food with real flavor and Salvadoran food! And excellent service!
Fresh and tasty papusas.
I loooove this place, the fried sweet plantains are so good as is the loroco pupusa with the slaw and rice and refried breans. What Id get next time: Combo with 2 loroco & cheese pupusas, that comes with rice and refried beans. Ask for extra slaw. Would also be ok getting just 1 pupusa but the combo comes with 2 What I got this time: ~$15 combo with rice and beans, pork and cheese pupusa, loroco and cheese pupusa + ~$6 fried plantains + ~$3 guanabana (soursop) juice Some of the best fried plantains Ive had, the edges were perfectly crispy and caramelized. Not necessary though, especially at ~$6, to enjoy this meal. I liked the loroco pupusas more than the pork ones. The guanabana juice was yummy but had a mildew aftertaste that I didnt like. But a great price at ~$3
Okay place with okay food. I guess pupusas arent really the flavor bombs of latin cuisine and this is reflected in the relatively bland fare. The space is a bit on the cavalier side, but there is still a charm to it. The yucca fries were really bland and hard to push down. They have a vegetarian and a vegan option and they both seem like afterthoughts.
The papusas are yummy and such good bang for your buck
Pupusas pretty good; not worth the 40 minute wait.
Revuelta papusa thanks. Thanks to Plantains.
Great place to grab a bite to eat late
This place is great value. Get the combo plant and a few sides.. tables open up pretty quickly so wait isn t long once you order
Do not come here if you want your food in under 45 minutes. I ve come here three times and that s been the fastest and tends to be closer to an hour. But the food is good so I come back but it bugs me to no end how slow the service is. Let this be your warning
Omg yes 4th meal. After a night out, stop by and sober yourself up with papusas. It s sure to hit. Combo 1 gives you the best of all worlds.
Value for money it has a 10 out of 10. The food was good and for that price you cant find anything in San Francisco. Friendly attention and they attended to us quickly. The area is not my favorite in the city, but the place is good.
Wonderful bustling atmosphere, with delicious food. The pupusas may seem pricier than other places, but they were larger than I expected too.
Pretty busy especially around rush hour. Pupusas are simple but good, service is prompt and the restaurant is clean and nice. Can be a bit noisy and crowded though
food is great but the service isn t really very good. took almost forty minutes to get two pupusas and it wasn t even very busy. Vegetarian options: lots of different vegetarian and vegan pupusas!
Soo good, delicious pupusas!
We ate pupusas for the first time yesterday and were totally amazed by this dish. We liked the rustic atmosphere in panchitas and the small, fine selection of pupusas. We had the combo 1 and ordered rice as an additional side dish. Afterwards we were very full and happy. Dietary restrictions: Because the pupusas are made from corn/rice flour, in my opinion the dishes are great for gluten-free diets. There are also many options for eating for people with histamine problems. Vegetarian is possible, vegan not.
You can never go wrong with a Panchitas pupusa
Its been a while since Ive been. The stew was very flavorful, and glad there were options for someone who doesnt like cheese.
Try the mushroom garlic pupusa! Its soooo goooddd.
Best pupusas in SF! I drive from Sunnyvale up to SF just to buy pupusas from Panchitas.
Good food
Very delicious
Always the best, cheapest Mission dinner or late night snack
Amazing! Get pupusas
If you are in SF, this is the place to eat popusas!
Always delicious! Wheelchair accessibility: Not accessible. Two steps to enter. Food : 5/5 |
The food and customer service was great
Food is excellent. Tough to find parking
Vegetarian options: You can ask for your vegetables. Wheelchair accessibility: Yes Recommended dishes Combo 1, Fried Plantains Recommendation for vegetarians
Be careful using your debit card. I tipped them cash and they still gave them selves a 20% tip
Very bad service.
hella good.
Dietary restrictions: Papusas are GF either made from masa or rice upon request. Food
The best Salvadoran pupusas I have ever eaten! Family treatment, very pleasant environment
food
Indoor seating feels cramped. Ambience was overwhelming. Bands playing loud music right in your face.
Good for late night quick dinner. Informal, order at counter, get a number and sit.
Great food but dont expect it to come out on time, ours was 30 minutes after the designated pick up time, this after 30 minutes waiting before going to pick it up
Great pupusas great atmosphere great price
Excellent food
Nicest pupusas Ive had so far. Each order only includes 1 pupusa. The extra plus is that they have guava flavored Jarritos soda, which is not a common flavor stocked in other places. Has a long table that fits our group of 8. Opens til really late, which is also a big plus.
Panchitas is fantastic. Best pupusas in town, and if there are better they must be hidden. All the other dishes are spot on as well, though Im still working through the list. Ill be back time and time again.
The food is always good, and I like being inside. I get the combo number one and enjoy it every time. I like looking at everyone eating enjoying their food while I do, too.
Dietary restrictions: gluten free Food
The best. Was on a trip to the city this past weekend and ended up here twice. And Im mad I have none left.
Amazing restaurant!!! Highly recommend carne asada plate best I ve ever had anywhere. Guac was out of this world good!
I think they need a little more to have a cozy place...it was terribly cold and they had heaters on 2 tables that couldnt heat the place...and the doors were open all the time. The open-air spoons and forks on each table were very likely to be full of dust or some bacteria. There were no napkins, but there was a large kitchen roll. The food was similar but only similar to the Salvadoran one... but hey, Ive only gone one day maybe other times its different
This is one of my favorite pupuserias in San Francisco
Got the chance to know this place from our kind Lyft driver s recommendation. Only got their classic pupusa revueltas so can t say anything about the other foods but the lively atmosphere, the bustling movement of regulars around lunch, and the Latin American aromas from the other tables tell me their other plates are probably just as good. The pupusa was great. Creamy, meaty, and cheesy, and the salsa roja, or its Salvadoran equivalent, was a cold, tangy compliment to the hot meaty goodness. Don t know a lot about El Salvador other than what Worldle tells me, but Panchita s tells me it s a great place with wonderful food.
you have to come to panchitas if you re in the city, unbeatable deals, atol de alote like no other, every pupusa is perfect every single time. thank you panchitas
Pupusas to dry
All very well, 100% recommended
Variety of foods with very good flavor
The most delicious pupusas! Combo 1 is the perfect meal in my opinion. Everything tastes so fresh - I got the garlic and mushroom, and the beef pupusas, very cheesy and flavorful. Plantains were sweet and crispy, and the beans, guac, sour cream and veg are the perfect accompaniments. The atmosphere is delightful and I enjoyed the live musician that wandered in and out of the restaurant. No notes!
The food was very good, though we had to wait some time because there were so many people ordering at that time. The pupusas are highly recommend!
One of my most favorite places to go and eat Pupusas , Armando Is a wonderful guy he always meets our needs when we are there
Good shredded meat, chicken soup and pupusas
This is my 3rd time in Panchita s and I always forget to take a picture of my pupusas. The pupusas are so good. I like the mixta(cheese, beans and chicharrón. Great customer service!
Great food and would come back again.
One of the best pupusas I ever try Nice environment and friendly stuff 100 recommend
Cheap and delicious pupusas, although they take way, way too long to come out (to be fair, this is true of restaurants in El Salvador too)
Its become such an ICONIC pupuseria, that service runs slow. That does not mean is bad. Just needs more help in the back. Other then that. Amazing.
Love the pupusas here so much! Theyre some of the best around.
Food was great! Recommend the pork pupusas
Consistently great food with vegetarian options, good prices, friendly staff, clean & great location. Been coming here for years. Vegetarian options: Multiple delicious vegetarian pupusas. The combo plates are delicious.
Used to be my fav place to eat but now they have their pupusas filled with raw masa. Not good.
A great little food establishment that serves up good food in a no thrills authentic restaurant moment perfect for an evening of good conversation and food to accompany you while catching up with a friend after seeing a documentary about parrots a block away at the little roxie
Good choice
These pupusas are too good! Literally had to come back the next day to get more after my first time trying them. I particularly love the large number of vegetarian options that they provide! Great gluten free place for those in your life as well! Tip on the tamales: the corn is fine, but the chicken is AMAZING. Just be careful of serving sizes because they do not shy away from large portions! Vegetarian options: Definitely a good number of vegetarian options, but not a vegetarian mainstay. Plenty of cheese (vegans should avoid entirely) and meat options available. But when it is vegetarian, it is because it tastes GOOD, not because it is a token vegetarian option. Dietary restrictions: Most of the menu is gluten free!
Delicious pupusas with a variety of options to choose from.
The food is tasty, filling, and affordable with accommodations for various dietary restrictions (vegan, vegetarian, rice flour pupusas instead of corn, etc.) I got a single bean & cheese pupusa (came with a pickly cabbage salad) and a side of chips & guac. It came to $12 and made a great meal!
Good food, drunk creepers, extra charges for using a credit card and getting to go (total around a $1). Long wait for food.
Average taste, high prices for the food, the taste, the service and the place they offer. The bathrooms are horrible. I wouldnt go back.
I like Panchitas a lot. The pupusas are good and big, people are nice and the flavors are there. This is a popular spot so there might be a line and some wait time, especially late night weekends. Parking: It is difficult to find parking spot in this area, be prepared to circle for a few minutes. Wheelchair accessibility: It is not wheelchair accessible. There is a couple of steps in the front entrance.
Great food but had an unfortunate experience my most recent visit where someone brought in a large barking dog then order and wait for their food inside. Saw another patron visibly frightened and have to leave. I changed my order to carry out because the barking was very loud.
Sooooo Bomb!! Love this spot! Pupusas are life!
Delicious! Great variety with healthy and not-so-healthy options.
Food is really good. But the ambiance is not that great
As a Salvadorian, these are hands down the best popusas I ve ever had. I d go to war for panchitas lol
Everything very good
Mediocre food. Insanely long wait. Overpriced for what you get. Many better options in the area
My go-to restaurant for late food.
Legit combo plate
This place is famous in SF for a reason. Basically the food is solid. Youre going to get a tasty as heck pupusa with all the fixings.
Combo 1 and Combo 2
Worst place to get pupusas I just spent $47 for the worst food the pupusas all are burned
They need to get lessons for someone from el salvador to learn how to make it they dont care because they give you you food to go all the pupusas with the burning cheese they suck big time
It doesn t get better than Panchitas
Well, most of what people are saying about this pace are right! This place was straight up delicious. I was taken back to my moms friend s house who made pupusas for dinner back in LA. The toppings and sides for the meal where also delicious so glad I found this place!
Very good service and I love it
The Pupusas are good but the other dishes leave a lot to be desired... we ordered roast beef and it was totally disgusting, dry, and like old meat from the freezer, the taste was unpleasant. I returned the plate and they did not want to prepare the meat again and they did not offer no refund.. I will never return I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT
I love Panchitas but todays pupusas were not up to the high standard they usually are. I was not totally bummed because the Yuca con Chicharon and Salvadorean style Horchata were perfect and kept me filled up all day.
The best pupusas in the Bay area...the mixed one and the mushroom one are my favorites! And you must try their other dishes with authentic Salvadoran flavor, a spectacular flavor that will make you feel in your little thumb and you will have to return again and again. This place is highly recommended.
Just as good as the ones you can have in Central America! Totally loved the vibe and the pupusas! I forgot to take a picture of the dish because I was very focused on eating it :D
Delicious!
One of my favorite satisfying & satiating meals to get in The Mission is combo 1 at Panchita s. I just love the sides that come with this combo. Their agua frescas are delish too.
Tasted like home. Thanks for the delicious food!
Bad quality food. My daughter and I got food poison, we were unwell for the next couple of days after we ate at Pachita s. Pupusas were a bit raw; the place doesn t look very clean and tidy. We asked an Uber to take us to this place so we couldn t just leave, we didn t know the area. We were visiting from Melbourne, Australia. Staff was ok, they were only two, one taking money and the other one serving. Sorry, but I can t recommend this place.
Great place to go after a nice day at Dolores Park. The pupusas are so good.
Best carne asada Ive ever had. Period.
Chicken soup was past its serve date, and still served it to us. Pupusas are always good. Staff is friendly.
I like only the popusas of loroco I dont like other food
All I got was an Horchata and holy smokes it was the worst Horchata Ive ever had in my life. Did the guy put coffee grounds instead of cinnamon or something? Dear God it was horrendous.
Some staff could be a little nicer, but the food was great! Just a bit pricey for a lot of people...
Good pupusas
Haven t been here in so many years. Finally heard enough good comments so went back. Truly delicious. Shocked & in awe that this place has resurrected itself to be even better than it was . Years $ years ago
Food with Latin American flavor. Urban environment of Latin brothers.
My first time having papusas was right here, months before the pandemic started. Back then they had a mariachi style band walking up and down the aisle livening up the little hole-in-the-wall restaurant! It s just good traditional food, done right. I will say, the wait times are on the longer side. Stopped in once, ordered to-go, and ended up getting a parking ticket because the meter expired after I had put 30 minutes on it.
Loved this place! Great pupusas, atmosphere and staff.
First time visiting and tasting Pupusa. Very pleased with the decision. Ordered the combo with two Paps (chicken and pork). Served with plantain, coleslaw, guacamole, sour cream and black beans. The Paps were superb. Bill was approx $17 which in SF is like pocket change. Great choice and highly recommended for a satisfying lunch
Im not fan of the place
Its not cheap, but good places never are in this part of the city. Its a great neighborhood, close to a lot of public transit stops and even bart. The pupusas are good, fresh, hot, and theyre perfectly cheesy. I recommend the regular corn pupusas, but the rice flour ones are my favorite. The Salvadorian horchata is delicious, as is the Tamarindo beverage. I loved how they offer a big plate for a set price, and its more than plenty of food for anyone with a big appetite. I had dinner here on a date on Sunday, the 29th of October 2023, and we both loved it. Definitely will be returning... Vegetarian options: Platanos fritos
Wow, the hot (temp not spice) red sauce the best
Fantastic
Delicious pupusas and theyre gluten free!!! Dietary restrictions: Very gluten-aware! Food : 5/5 |
If you want pupusas, this is a great option to be. No frills, basic but knows how to make pupusas. The chicken and pork pupusas are good picks. For vegetarians there is a mushroom pupusa that s great. Vegetarian options: Pupusa garlic mushroom, spinach pupusa etc
Best Pupuseria in the City
Bomb
One of the last remaining gems of the Mission.
Quite possibly the best pupusas I ve had in my life. Perfectly filled and cooked (with the cheese spilling out that gets crunchy). When they have the recado in a squirt bottle that s how you know it s finna hit. Such a cute little spot. Almost makes you feel like you re in someone s backyard in Central America (in the best way)
Delicious food, great staff and great vibes.
Thank you, support <3
Best pupusas you ll find on mission street! They are reasonably priced and have lots of options. A great spot for vegetarians.
Absolutely killer Pupusas. Everything about these were great.
