UPS N' DOWNS in Sarnia

A bit over due but last month used the private room for my birthday event at Ups N Downs. I cant remember her name but our server was the best there was over 25 of us and she kept all bills organized and made sure nobody ever had an empty drink. Party was on Nov 9. Would recommend Ups N Downs for sure!

Great place for just a drink or a good meal, live music in the evenings, and vegetarian as well as gluten-free offerings.

My wife has celiac disease and has to be very careful about eating out. After reading some reviews, we decided to try the food options here. This has to be the BEST gluten free fish and chips (and poutine) weve ever had. I certainly wish we lived closer so we could eat here more often. Dietary restrictions: Excellent job of handling celiac diet. Orders were clearly labeled and packaged separately. My wife did not have any issues.

Classic Sarnia destination for drinks right downtown. Nice casual atmosphere. I didnt eat anything so I cant comment on that but the live music unfortunately could have been much more appreciated if they cut the volume 50-80%. Talented musician there last night but maybe suffering from hearing loss if he felt he needed to be that loud to play for the 10 people in the room. One guy and an acoustic guitar could easily play with little to no amplification in that situation. Unfortunately this is too often the case with live music in many situations these days.

I wouldnt go back. Went this evening. The server was not happy. The roast beef was dry over cooked, yet wings under cooked. We are both sick.

Best staff in town

Ups and Down is a local business which has been on Front Street here in Sarnia for a very long time! It caters to all groups of people who are looking for a good time at reasonable prices. The staff, and food are first rate. It is a place where you can instantly feel at home! They offer a wide variety of domestic and international beers on tap or bottle. If you want an evening out or just a casual visit, you should not be disappointed. Vegetarian options: Yes and you can your server about the choices and options available.. Dietary restrictions: Yes and again ask your server for the options available. Wheelchair accessibility: Yes there is a wheel chair friendly access. While waiting to be placed at your table, you may want to sit in the spacious dining room area.

Been a while since I was here last. Man have the prices gone up, big time. Charging extra for a tiny side ceasar salad was un real when my dinner actually came with a side. The atmosphere is the same as it was 12 years ago. Very dated

Staff refused service to my friend who has stage 4 mouth cancer, and couldnt speak. They claimed he was too drunk. The staff here are lucky they dont have to deal with a lawsuit.

Horrible place the old see you nxt Tuesday at the bar could use a lesson in manners. Insulted myself and my friends on a lunch break, she was crass uncanny and furthermore unprofessional. There are far better establishments to dine at. If u like cold food and rude servers. At least you dont have to tip!!

Our waitress kept disappearing and we noticed she was drinking behind the bar. We kept asking other waitresses to find her to get us another drink with our food. Other waitresses kept asking if we needed a box for our food to go. We went to enjoy drinks and apps for a couple of hours before the Theatre. My husband finally found her in a booth drinking, while seemingly still on the clock, to just get our bill paid and get out of there. I sent an email as to the above, but no reply from the owner or anyone. A very disappointing and frankly disturbing experience. Not sure if it was the owner who was there, but he was sitting at the higher pub table and going back behind the bar to pour his own drinks and was sitting with a few fellows including our mayor. Spent money for this horrendous experience and were pissed about it.

The old bar tender really sucks she don t know how to treat a customer

Iam giving 2 stars just for the good beer and good food. Bartender (with short hair) is super rude and foolish. She don t know how to interact with the customers.

Lots of choices on the menu, meal was very good. Waitress was very attentive .

Went with a large group. Was given our own room upstairs. Server did a great job keeping up and running the stairs. Would recommend.

I went on a night with live music which really pumped up the ambience. Food could have more options as the best I could find is generally found in any other cafe.

Great service and value for $ with food. The place feels really dark - even during the day. For the people who love the place its great - just not everyones cup of tea. Vegetarian options: There is a veggie burger - there is no indication on the menu if it has eggs or dairy or both in it. For vegans they have a curry which Im pretty sure is - again - they indicate what is vegetarian on the menu but Im not sure if vegan is mentioned or not

A group of us went to Ups after a fun night on the duc cruise. Last year Ups was understaffed, so this year we called a head of time to let the staff know a big group would be coming in. Our waitress, who was wearing a knee brace, started off at our table but apparently things got too chaotic for her and got overwhelmed. We were trying to help her, but when my mom spoke up she proceeded to tell my mom to shut up and let her talk . I was shocked and disgusted how this waitress spoke to my mom. She then left and proceeded to bad talk our table to the other wait staff in which I overheard. I approached her and kindly asked to not talk like to my mom and our table in that manner as we are paying customers and we did nothing wrong. She then proceeded to yell at me in front of the entire restaurant and tried to kick me out. I enjoy supporting local, but I will never step foot in this bar again due to this terrible waitress and service. It s truly disgusting that you think it s okay to talk to paying customers like that. You embarrassed my mom and I and made an absolute fool of yourself.

They have a wide selection of gluten-free menu items which is awesome! They have a dedicated gluten-free fryer so i was able to get fish and chips for the first time in forever. The staff are friendly, personable, and fast! Dietary restrictions: Lots of gluten-free options since they have a dedicated fryer for gluten-free items.

One of the last restaurants to offer fair prices, tons of fantastic food and great service. It almost didn t feel real ! New favourite restaurant in town! First time trying Ups N Down after living here a long time, many regrets not coming sooner. Amazing little spot, service couldnt have been better, food and drinks were above and beyond. We are already talking about what were trying next time. Lovely bar downtown with a lot of live music shows, the place is cozy, it has a nice vibe to it. Service was really good, we ordered beer and nachos

Went here to watch a band with my family and friends. Servers said we could run a tab. Then came back over and asked if we were going to pay. As opposed to leaving and not paying!?! They then said we HAD to pay right away. No problem, we were a big group. I offered to have any drinks she couldn t keep track of just put on my bill. We paid for our drinks and tried to enjoy the night. Servers said we were in their way. We tried to move, although there s not much standing space. Instead of putting some tables together and making a space big enough for our group, they continued to elbow us as they walked by and one server actually PUSHED my friend. We asked to speak to the manager and we re informed that the woman who pushed my friend WAS the manager. Mind blowing. The server then tried to charge my aunt for drinks that we had already paid for. Unbelievable! To be clear we are not young kids, we have more than enough money to pay for our bills. In fact I tipped more than 100% for my bill (my server was nice). My friends have told me this isn t the first time they went in there and were treated this way. These girls had the opportunity to make a lot of money last night. None of us will be returning to the Ups and Downs. I m a server myself and cannot believe the level of disrespect we received.

We came in as a group on St. Patrick s day, the bar was filled with people. However, the service here was very poor we had to wait for 2 hours but we still didn t get the food. We asked the waitress a couple of times but there was no proper reply from her side. Customer service here is subpar.

Really poor experience ,, went in there to have some food and a couple beer and the server told us she didn t want to serve us unless we were ordering food which we had already asked for a menu because we were planning on ordering food so we just left , definitely won t go back there was my first time there and definitely my last time ,, will stick to going to Bad Dogs on the other side of the building for a much better customer experience

I wish I could give 0 stars. It s really a shame our waitress was so horrible from the moment we walked in. I almost thought it was a joke at first but she was so incredibly rude. Not sure her name , but blonde hair. Horrible. The manager was equally as rude and clueless. I would not recommend anyone waste their time unless they hire new staff. Worst experience I ve ever had anywhere.

Couldnt tell you about the food, because we were never waited on. We were seated and that was it. Waited a half hour with no recognition from any staff, even when we left. Two other parties who were seated later than us were waited on and at least received drinks in that time. Worst experience Ive had in a long time.

Genuinely the worst experience Ive ever had at a restaurant. From the moment we walked in, our waitress was rude. Our group was greeted with I need everyones IDs - never even said hello! The rest of our evening was continuously downhill from there. When it came time to order food, I asked the waitress if the Veggie Curry was vegan, to which she replied, no, but its vegetarian for sure. Given that this was my only option on the menu, I decided to order it. Upon taking my first bite after receiving it, I remembered once reading something about how some restaurants will add chicken broth to their curry and I just had a feeling that this would be the kind of place to do that. As such, I decided to actually call the restaurant (I didnt want to deal with our waitress any longer) and I asked the individual who answered the phone whether or not the Veggie Curry was vegetarian, to which she almost instantly replied, no, its made with chicken broth. Upon learning this, I promptly called over our waitress and told her that I had just found out my food had chicken broth in it and asked her why she told me it was vegetarian; she replied, well, it doesnt have any actual meat in it. I told her I was aware of that but stressed my point that it was quite obviously not a vegetarian dish if it is made with chicken broth. Things got real heated from then on, as she started to get very angry and started saying things like its not my job to know everything thats in our food. Eventually, the manager came over and attempted to defend their blatant mistake by saying, weve served this dish for over 30 years and most shockingly we dont accommodate to vegans and vegetarians here, none of our food is good for you people. Ultimately, our group left almost immediately after this conversation and even those this happened a few weeks ago, I am still in awe that I experienced customer service that was this bad. TL;DR: go somewhere else. The service here is usually very poor and there are many other better options in Sarnia. I say this as a result of this experience here, but also many other relatively negative interactions Ive had here with staff over the years.

Got the gluten free 2 piece fish and chips. It was delicious and they were massive pieces of fish!

Was walking along the pier and asked a local where to eat for dinner while on a business trip. He suggested Up n Downs just a short walk from the water. The 3 of had burgers, fries and gravy along with a few wobbly pops. Deff try the house draft Big Lebrewski ($4.50 a pint) Food was great. Beer was cold. Service was great. 5 stars.

Has really come full circle, and now it s one of the best pubs in town and now one of my favourite places. I ll say this, It s a great place to eat and drink, Staff are amazing. Come to UPSn Downs, try it once and I guarantee you ll want to come back.One thing I recommend is the fish and chips. DELICIOUS That s just one of many things I love here. I love the atmosphere, friends and fun! I have several top favourite places to eat in Sarnia and this is for sure one of them. Life s got it s UPS N DOWNS! Come on, just try this place once and you ll be back for more!

First and Last Visit. The server was pleasant but very unorganized, the food was mediocre with some in our party having cool to the touch product brought to the table, but the kicker was almost 1hour and 45minutes to receive our order. No manager present to explain or apologize for such a delay. Huh...

its a good spot... they have beer! :) ... Had a nice clubhouse sammy and fries this time.. good stuff

Had a great meal late this afternoon, the fries were hot and the pub platter was generous and hot as well, our server Casey was very welcoming, she made great recommendations for our next visit with friends from London on the Reuben sandwich being the best around, cya soon Ups N Downs Nov 17 Our server tonight was very polite and helpful with menu suggestions. Had the Reuben Sandwich again, STILL THE BEST, while my wife had the Chicken Ceasar Wrap with fries, tasted great and they were plenty hot. Always a great place to eat, cool atmosphere as well in the 100yr+ old building while the business is 48yrs old itself.

I used to like this establishment, until recently... went there for my bday. Was totally unimpressed with our meal... our drinks!! Our waitress forgot part of our order. Then gave it to us as we were leaving. Worst bday dinner ever.. will def not return.

Food was good tonight.. my only complaint is that online the clubhouse said it came with turkey breast but it was more like prepackaged deli meat! My boyfriend said his Brit burger was a bit on the dry said but still said it was good! Thank you for supplying good, fast service. The fries here never disappoint!!

So disappointed, haven t been here in over 5 years, we ordered chicken quesadilla, coconut shrimp, nachos and chicken tiki masala. The shrimp was great but didn t come with creamy coconut dip like they said .. instead came with curry sauce.... the chicken quesadilla had absolutely no flavour to it at all! The nachos were disgusting! The only thing that was good was the chicken tiki masala! Very dissatisfying

ABSOLUTELY THE WORST RESTAURANT IN SARNIA! I VISITED MY CHILDREN AND ORDERED OVER$100 IN FOOD AND ALMOST ALL OF IT WAS BURNT BEYOND ETABLE AND HAD TO BE THROWN IN THE GARBAGE

Yesterday, my wife and I along with a friend, stopped in for lunch. Our waitress never shut up all the while she was at our table. Even talked about other patrons. She asked what we would like so we all gave our orders, one at a time. She wrote nothing down. The orders came. Mine was ok but the other two were completely screwed up. She took the two back and said it would be fixed. She brought the new ones back with again a screw up. Our friend had said NO FRIES! The waitress said there would be no charge for her fries or my wife s due to the mix up. Got our bill. Total charge for everything. GOODBYE TO UPS N DOWN

Ordered the fish and chips. The fish was cooked perfectly. The fries were soggy and oily. Had to wipe the oil from the fries before we could eat it. Recommend you work on improving the fries. Also pls provide more napkins at the table.

Labour Day 2021. Super busy and short staffed. But they pulled off a great meal with awesome service. So many gluten free options!!!

Veggie Burger with side Salad

CLASSIC SARNIA BRITISH PUB & EATERY! A go-to when in town! A la carte menu style. Local beer on tap. Can t go wrong ordering the Steak sandwich with a side of fries(greatly seasoned) staff are quick, friendly and efficient. Historical Sarnia pictures are the decor. Definitely recommend sitting on the far left side by the windows for less foot traffic. Keep up the good work.

I had the Brit burger and it was well stacked and juicy with a mountain of sweet potato fries that I did not share at all.

This is a good place to go and have a drink and relax. Staff are very friendly, food is great. Lots of nice good regulars go there and I have good conversations with them. Been going there for 23 years.

Those with Celiac Disease and who require a 100% Gluten Free diet salute you and your generous menu offerings for those who suffer from this disease and cannot eat regularly when dining out . it means the world to have a fun place for Family gatherings , birthdays and every day meals and take out . I have heard others who visit from London Ontario rave about Ups and Downs Gluten Free offerings as they wish they had something this great in their community.

I have to say that my husband and Is experience with Ups and Downs, on October 7/2020 has been the WORST weve ever had with any establishment. Not only was the initial experience in restaurant absolutely awful. The lack of sincerity from the management when speaking after the fact. You ruined not only my first outing since Covid, but also my first wedding anniversary. Our meals were so over cooked, the burgers were like charcoal. Choosing the gluten free burgers, we were excited as my husband is celiac. The buns were soggy, and gross. The woman who removed the food from the table had the audacity to tell me that all gluten free food was like that, and that I could expect that quality even from the grocery store. Im sorry but I do purchase gluten free, and I have never had food turn out like the meal what was served to me. When I did mention I enjoyed the fries and would be willing to keep them, I was abruptly told No, and that there was nothing more that could be done for me but to bring me my bill for my appetizer. I left unhappy, and hungry. I then chose to call the following day because I was upset, that outing cost me $40 after tip and I was still unsatisfied. I was quite quickly brushed off and promised a follow up, that never happened. I had originally chosen to leave a low star rating over facebook, but that review was abruptly removed. The worst dining experience ever!

I have always enjoys Ups N Downs. Ma introduced me to this place for lunch way back, and I still go. Great for date night. I love the curry. Half fries, half rice. Naan needs to be improved. If you dont like the curry, tell yourself it is spicy beef/lamb stew and eat it. It is awesome. Decent beer selection, but they advertise beers not served. Shameful.

We decided to bring our wedding party in following the wedding for a night cap... Bad choice when one drink was spilled a bartender started to become very aggregated with us after providing us a rag and us returning the rag to a server she was furious we didnt have her rag anymore. A 1$microfibre rag made this women so angry she told one of our wedding party to get down and lick it off the floor she wasnt serving him or giving him another cloth... So to that server your a two bite loser and to the establishment that condones this behavior to your patrons shame on you.
