Big Fish Steak & Lounge in Sarnia

You don t need an occasion to come for dinner here! The service and food is like no other restaurant and the atmosphere makes you feel comfortable as the servers treat you like family and their only special guest in the restaurant. We ve been dining at Big Fish for 14 years and will continue to!

Ordered a bowl of clam chowder & a beef dip . Waitress sd I could substitute salad or fries for the soup. I sd Ill do that. Got my bill & was charged $8 for the soup. She sd it was upgrade. Had I known I wouldve had a salad with my sandwich & got the soup to go.. it wouldve only been $2. more. Very annoying. She did not say it was an upgrade and people sitting with me agreed she didnt say that, only a substitute.

We hosted my Mother s 90th Birthday party and everything was outstanding! The food was exceptional and the service was top notch. They have a nice private room for larger groups. I m happy we decided to celebrate this very special occasion at The Big Fish

Overall really good. Served by the owner and was treated very well. I cut myself on some glass for which the owner apologized and even took the time to bandage me up. Lol Food was great, service was great, but the walls...I dont understand the walls.

Would have got 5 stars but we were there for our 36th anniversary and no soup, no whip cream for specialty coffee, waitress was nice but the experience could have been better considering the price.

Table for four 6pm reservation on a Friday evening Great service overall. Pleasantly attentive Maitre D, our server was also excellent. Charismatic, knowledgable and proficient. 10/10. Our bus girl was a tad over attentive as her continual intermittent plate clearing was slightly interruptive to conversations. I myself prefer plates to be cleared when everyone at the table has finished each course. Our table felt slightly more cramped than I may have preferred. The fourtop tables nearby seemed to have far more space for comfort. Our table seemed to be a game of shuffling items around to manage drinks, bread, appetizers side plates other table items. The menu has a wonderful variety and they had multiple exciting sounding dinner features. The majority of the food flavors and preparation were on point and enjoyed by all. However a few components of some dishes were slightly over salted and the sauteed mushrooms came in a ramakin of sauce which wasnt what was expected or described. Getting to the restrooms was awkward as large parties of people waiting for tables were inundating the areas surrounding the paths to get there. Overall we very much so enjoyed our experience, but would seek out a different table next time.

Walked in wearing shorts and a tank! It s 83 outside and it s summer! Front guy asks me if I have another shirt! I said no, he said they couldn t serve me!! Been to nicer restaurants and they still served me. Clothes is clothes!! Look at their website too, they have small serving sizes for such a large price! Don t waste your money here!

I Live in London but I have a slip at Sarnia Bay Marina and was lucky to find this place to have dinner at. Amazing food, the family that owns it were incredible. Service, cleanliness, were top notch and the food was perfect. I will be back regularly. Stacey made us feel like family.

I have gone to big fish many times. Every time is an excellent experience where the staff and owners go above and beyond. I spent my birthday there last night and my server Julie and one of the owners Stacey were kind, attentive and really made the whole evening feel so special. You feel like friends and family when you are at the restaurant and the food is always incredible which of course is a big part of the experience.

Been let down with many of our favorite restaurants. Being outta town was referred to this place. It is absolutely fantastic, atmosphere, service and the food not only tasted like a famous chefs food but also was very appealing to the eye. Great job guys! Everyone should go here

From the moment we walked in, the inviting ambiance set the stage for a wonderful evening. Despite arriving without a reservation, we were swiftly seated at one of the smaller bar tables by the friendly staff. The menu offered a tantalizing array of options, and we kicked off our meal with the scrumptious scallops, which left us eagerly anticipating the rest of our dinner. The prime rib special did not disappoint; perfectly cooked to our liking and served with a generous portion of mashed potatoes and au jus, it was a true culinary delight. Although the bread wasnt freshly baked, it served as a tasty accompaniment to our meal. Additionally, opting for the Caesar salad upgrade was a wise choice, despite the additional charge, as it added an extra layer of flavor to the main course. While too full for dessert, I indulged in a Spanish coffee to round off the meal, though the cream topping left a little to be desired. Despite this minor hiccup, the overall dining experience was exceptional. Though the bill may seem steep ($130 for me alone with two drinks and no desert), the quality of the food, impeccable service, and inviting atmosphere made it well worth it. Had surf and turf, Lobster tail very dried out, tenderloin tasteless and over sauced with demi glaze. The prime rib special was very difficult to cut as so much grizzle. Just disappointed as this is supposed to be one of the top restaurants in the area. Dietary restrictions: After specific discussions, did not get my request correct had to take it back and replated dinner with same meat and lobster tail. Just was ok, and I was hoping for WOW which it was not for the price.

Only been a couple times, but did not disappoint. Food cooked to perfection, and absolutely delicious. A bit pricy, but a worthwhile splurge, every now and then, for a top quality meal with tasty drinks. Food : 5/5

Great food, great service.

Such a beautiful atmosphere and awesome food. Everything was cooked perfect. BUT.... it is very overpriced, especially the appetizers, as they are no more special than any other fancy restaurant. I think they could hold off a few more dollars on their menu. I realize that produce and meat has increased in price everywhere and no doubt the best of the best has been chosen but I still think it is too overpriced. Its almost unaffordable for the average person.

Stopped here to eat by myself while here for work. I had the tenderloin steak and it was very yummy and filling. The service was very friendly and quick. I recommend this place if you are looking for steak in Sarnia.

Alex is always very welcoming as you come in the front door. The seating areas are nice. Some places are loud and clangy. I must admit I get the prime rib or the tenderloin, switch the garden salad to ceasar salad. In the 20 meals we have never been disappointed. Great crew there foresure !!

Really good food and service. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Although its very cozy, bordering on too dark to be able to see the menu and the meal on the plate. All in all highly recommended!

Ate here one year ago. Supper was great. Tonight was very disappointing. Should have realized what was to come when the waitress could not get a drink order correct. Escargot was cold, tasteless, like chewing on rubber. Ordered special,surf and turf. Lobster cold, no warmer for butter, served with a tiny bowl of butter on plate which was cool. Asked my waitress why they did not have a candle warmer which I had on my previous visit. She stated that they did not have the correct candles????? OK, very poor answer, dollar store less than 5 minutes away. The gravy on the mashed potatoes was major salty, did not eat them. Very, very disappointed, especially, spending $120.00 for one person, 2 cocktails, before tip. Will never dine at Big Fish again.

Big Fish is a great spot for a wonderful dinner with your significant other or for a group of friends/family. You might pay more than some other places, but the food is second to none. I have been several times and havent got on single thing to complain about. Check them out if you want to experience a higher class dining experience. I recommend the chowder and the saganaki.... followed up with the Prime Rib.

Went with a group of nine for a birthday celebration. Service was extremely slow and food was extremely subpar. Phoned the owner ( Alex) and he did not care at all about our experience. Paid over 200 dollars for two people. Would NOT recommend! Never will waste my money again there !

The food was delicious, although my order of the seafood bowl wasnt quite what I expected. The prices were not appropriate for the average Sarnia person. $17. for a glass of wine was a little outrageous. Our party thought they were being charged dinner prices instead of lunch. If you upgraded to a different salad or special fries, that was much extra. I could have had a lobster dinner at another restaurant for what my lunch cost here. Sorry if some dont like my review, but Im being honest with everyone.

Steak was not cooked to my liking. Had to be re-cooked twice. Ordered medium-well. Steak was medium-rare. Steak did not taste that great, after being grilled twice.

Good day. Yesterday, friends were in a restaurant. The atmosphere is not bad and the service is good. But I have a question about the food? Caesar salad without tomatoes, chicken and eggs. My Greek with a lot of vinegar. The salmon is dry and without dressing. A whole branch of broccoli is almost raw. Some strange feeling...

From the time we entered , Alex led us to our table til the time we left, and we felt like royals. Aliana is the most beautiful and pleasant server anyone could ask for . Her attention to customer needs is outstanding. As for our 14th anniversary meals, the 12 Oz. Steak and the 10noz prime rib were to die for. 22 years ago, my wife and I had our first date here, and my mother worked here 30 years ago. Thank you, Alex, and staff for many years of amazing quality.

One of the best dining experiences I ve had in a long time. Excellent service, food, and drink. Highly recommend the Seafood Chowder if they have it. My server recommended it and it did not disappoint. I also would NOT pass on the bread and butter.

Very strange experience. They asked to hang up my coat and after dining all the items were missing out of my pockets. Spoke to the owner and he had nothing to say but sorry didn t try to offer anything to make me want to come back. I found the environment unsettling and he just seemed to want to rush off the phone. As someone who has worked in customer service for over 10 years I am blown away by his lack of emotion towards this situation. I lost $100 bill and cigarettes and lighters, other items; it was a big coat. Beware .!!!!!

Nice spot with a great atmosphere. We were underwhelmed by our dinners unfortunately. The potatoes on all 6 meals were cold and meats were just ok. Really enjoyed the salad and vegetables. They do charge an additional $6 to change salad from a house salad to Caesar salad. Our service was good, but not friendly. I don t think we seen our waitress smile. Everything was good, but for $40-$60 a plate I was disappointed in the meal. Not bang for the buck in my opinion.

Business lunch. Service was attentive and friendly. Food was tasty and deliciously prepared. Big Fish never disappoints. Great venue for any occasion.

Ignorant waitress said we did not order at the same time as our group and placed blame! Canceled meal as everyone had eaten and she guilted saying she will have to take the meal home! Will never return and she should be terminated!

Elevated dining at its finest. The decor manages to be both chill and welcoming at the same time. The staff are very friendly and provide just the right amount of attention. The food is excellent. Calamari is the best Ive had. We all thoroughly enjoyed our entrees. And I totally recommend the specialty coffees which are lit table side. Will definitely return.

Had a family get together on a Monday evening - the restaurant was quite busy but service was timely and attentive while at the same discreet - servings were large and delightful - I recommend the clam chowder as a soup to accompany the entree. On this particular occasion, I chose the Seafood Gamberoni - Linguine topped with shrimp, scallops, salmon, mussels, cherry tomatoes, roasted garlic & chiffonade basil, with a delicate garlic Parmesan cream sauce. Others in the group feasted upon the smaller cut Beef Tenderloin, Grilled certified angus beef tenderloin, served with a green peppercorn cream demi-glace. A truly enjoyable dining experience, reasonably priced and a must do again soon experience

I was at Big Fish this afternoon and need to give a big shout out to this restaurant for the tasty appetizers with cocktails and especially to Dave for his top notch customer service!! Dave was so friendly and personable -best server ever!!

Went to Big Fish around 4ish today and sat in the lounge. The appetizers and the cocktails were made to perfection. It was so relaxing and not rushed so extremely comfortable. The best customer service I ever have had was by our server Dave. Thank you Dave and Big Fish as well as all staff.

Went here as a last-minute treat on Friday. We didnt have any reservations, and the manager was more than accommodating and very hands on in the restaurant which was nice to see. Our server was amazing. Pancetta Flatbread was incredible and so was all the other food. Cant wait to go back next time were in Sarnia.

I was in Sarnia visiting family. This place is exceptional for a small city like Sarnia. The service was top notch and the food is delicious. We started with Saganaki. It was a display with it being flambed in front of the table and tasted delicious. I ordered the Beef tenderloin rare, it was perfectly cooked and also I added a Lobster tale that turned out also perfectly cooked. . They had a kid menu for my 6 year old and she enjoyed her meal. My only criticism would be the atmosphere. The ambient music and decor reminded me more of a spa then a classic steakhouse however it was nice enough.

Just ate at this restaurant tonight...very disappointing..my husband sent his steak back to be cooked more and they brought him a new steak that was even more rare...the staff was great at first ..after he sent his steak back we were pretty much ignored.

When I arrived to pick up my meal I felt like I was family. The chicken spaghettini was amazing. I m so full and satisfied. I wasn t able to touch the spinach dip or salad. This will be my go to restaurant from now on.

Food and service were excellent. Generous portions and good quality. Background noise is a bit harsh. Need something to soften the noise.

I was at Big Fish for lunch today The service an decor were great. However, I ordered a blackened chicken wrap, which the menu says included tomato, onion, lettuce and black olive. I ordered it without onion. It looked appetizing however the cook had included red bell peppers in the wrap which were certainly not listed on the menu. So, I was disappointed, as I do not like these. Also the fries were rather soggy.

Recently I visited my hometown and a lifelong family friend suggested Big Fish. We had a lovely unrushed dinner catching up. Presentation, quality and portion did not disappoint. Highly recommend it.

Came for nostalgic reasons by myself as husband passed in July we were there weekly in 1975 when it was Ye Ole Country Steakhouse amazing. We loved the food and atmosphere. Your crock cheese was great. I had cuban lobster tail it was dry,tough and tastless. Even the drawn butter was cold. The garlic mashed potatoes where bitter snd cold. So were the veggies best part of meal was the salad, bread and wine. We have tried to come to try your establishment over the years but was always busy. Will not be back should have told waitress but did not. Not her fsult she is not the cook.

this restaurant serves up hot and delicious food!!! Their halibut and blackened orange roughy was amazing. Tender crisp veggies. Service was excelltent as well. It is our new favourite restaurant.

We will not be back, there are better alternatives in Sarnia. Made a selection dishes I recommend below only because I had to to allow posting of this review, I dont recommend any of the dishes in particular Parking: Wide open. Not so good in bad weather

None of our meals were very impressive, (besides the soup of the day, which was fantastic). The actual menu items are well designed with unique pairings, but whoever was cooking that day left much to be desired.

This place takes the cake! A must! A cannot miss! The staff and owners come from a line of gentleman and well-mannered souls that make their goal to make your stay as luxurious and cozy as possible. Big Fish Restaurant is just absolutely amazing! My whole family love their food from beef tenderloin, surf and turf, lobster spoons to kids burger and chicken strips. They have a kids menu! Love that you can request Ace of Spades or Dom Champagne and their bottle service is $100 to $150 cheaper than other places that offer this service in the 200 mile radius. Their corking fee is next to nothing. We have paid for more than the bottle s worth at other establishments with both bottle service and corking fee. We have used all services Big Fish has to offer and we can honestly say that the corporate parties and the memorials are uniquely perfect, well priced and wonderful in their own way. They really take care of everything. The chicken skewers, Mama s cabbage rolls and the potato salad are the best dishes for such occasions. A must try restaurant! Bonus point is they do a lot charity work in Lambton County by donating an event at their establishment, services or gift cards for wealthy causes. So be mindful where spend your hard earned dinner money. Kid-friendliness: They have a kids menu and can make some adult potions kids sizes. Our compliments to the Chef! **UPDATE Sept/23** We came to the Big Fish for dinner in their usual warm atmosphere. .. Boy, did we get a surprise! First of all, we ve noticed, since Covid the prices have skyrocketed! Our usual $175 dinner for my husband and myself and my son, is now over $300. I had a very bad day/news, and I just wanted to relax. My husband and I were in a back booth, with nobody around us. My sister called me to see how I was doing, and they brought our appetizer during that time. No problem. It was shrimp. It was good. The food wasn t the issue. When we walked in, there was no warm welcome like usual. The bartender was talking to somebody else. However, he always welcomes us and I noticed that he didn t even say hello. Anyway, back to where I was. I got off the phone from my sister, our appetizers were finished, and this woman came up to us and told us we had only a certain amount of time allotted for our booth, and when that time was up then we would have to leave. We were absolutely stunned! We have never been spoken to this way at any restaurant anywhere! We were so upset, and my husband was furious! We sat quite a while after she said this, waiting for our entrée! It wasn t coming and my husband is not one to make a fuss! However, he got up and walked over to her and said, if you expect us to be out of our booth at a certain time then you had better get us our entrées because we don t even have them yet! During all of his time I had ordered my signature drink, an Espresso Martini! When I first asked them for this drink years ago, they had no idea how to make one. Well, I had an amazing recipe out of Europe, where it originated, and also a recipe out of Chicago, that I shared with them. I used to taste test with the bartender to get it as best that he could without an Espresso Machine, which the owner, who was always lovely to us, told me after Covid, guess what I bought for you an Espresso machine! Well, did we laugh, and I was thrilled. Anyway, I asked for my Espresso Martini, and when I got it, it tasted like pure, thick, coffee Just Awful! No white chocolate, no dark chocolate, no Kahlúa no nothing! I said to the waitress, would it be OK for the bartender to add some Kahlúa or Bailey s or something? She said sure, and she brought it back to the bartender. This is the bartender that is usually very good to us. Anyway, he added some Baileys, and it still wasn t great, but it was ok. I ordered another one and asked for double Kahlúa. When I got it, once again, it was awful .. and once again I asked If somehow he could make it a little bit sweeter It s supposed to have coffee in it for that boost, but it s also supposed to have a sweetness to it. So this time the waitress went and told the bartender, and instead of getting a little extra sweetness in my drink, I got a very angry bartender, who literally argued that his Espresso martinis were very good and everybody just loves them! I was just shocked to have this bartender raging on me like this, and I told him I am the one that brought you the Espresso Martini recipe in the first place, and these just aren t what I am used to! Well he didn t care and he stormed off. Once again, we were shocked! They finally brought us our entrée and we ate, and after getting over a $300 bill for the two us we left. This is Sarnia, not the Biltmore! What an awful and unexpected experience! We WON T be back!

Ive been to this place before, and it was always top-notch. However, today was quite disappointing. Our drink orders took an exceptionally long time, and there were mistakes in the food orders for three people at our table. While the appetizers were great, the steak I ordered supposed to be medium-rare arrived medium-well and was tough. After discussing the issue with the waitress, they remade the steak, but even the properly cooked replacement was dry. The marbling on the steak seemed subpar, nowhere near the expected quality for the price. We werent regularly asked about drinks, and there was no inquiry about desserts, more drinks, or coffee. The bills were simply delivered to the table, giving the impression it was time to leave. As a party of 18, we would have appreciated the opportunity to order more drinks and desserts. Instead, it felt rushed. Upon reviewing the bill, which we didnt request, we noticed two extra meals charged that we didnt have. Im glad I checked before paying. Overall, it was a rather disappointing night. Despite having had many excellent experiences here in the past, this one has left me questioning whether we would consider booking reservations again in the future.

My mother and I recently visited this restaurant on a busy Saturday night, without a reservation. Stacey made sure that we were still able to be seated and demonstrated above and beyond service to us! She truly made us feel like we were important. And then, the food! Just excellent! Selection, flavour, portion sizes, everything was amazing. I happily recommend this wonderful dining establishment!

If you are looking for excellent food and amazing service in a beautiful atmosphere, this is your place! It isnt inexpensive to dine here, but you get what you pay for.

Had a great experience last night. I was there for a retirement dinner, so a largish group. The food was delicious as always, but what really stood out, is the fabulous service. Stacy handled our group and she was terrific!

Went for a birthday dinner with mom and aunt. 2 people got the tenderloin which were very good but I and my aunt go the new York strip with a basil butter?? Basil butter first gross choice next the new York was extremely tough well below average both were ordered medium, very tough and completely flavourless!!!! The owner Alex came over we told him both new Yorks were tough and had no flavour... his response... ummm well my steaks are great soooo... I dont know what to tell you!! Haha what a joke! Offered to cook another one to which we said no because it was flavourless and was offered nothing after that no apology nothing! Alex you should be embarrassed for treating customers this way. Lobster spoons and thr clam chowder I must exclude from this bad review they were amazing!

My husband and I went for our 11th anniversary. Dinner was amazing, I had the NY steak and he had the Atlantic salmon. We were both very impressed by the food. We didnt have the best table but it was sufficient. They had some nice booths for larger parties tho. Parking: Plenty of parking. Wheelchair accessibility: It has a ramp out front.

I m from the East Coast. Big Fish in Sarnia still has the best chowder I ve ever come across. Also the best Gyro I ve ever had, their meat tastes exactly like donair meat in Halifax as it should.

Excellent experience. My wife and I went there for my birthday and really enjoyed it. Our waiter David was excellent in managing the fine line between attentive and intrusive. At seafood restaurants, I like to try either the clam chowder or lobster bisque to evaluate the food, and the clam chowder was great. I was debating between the crab cakes and the mussels, so got the crab cakes on David s recommendations, but will try the mussels next time. I know my wife enjoyed her crab and lobster stuffed mushroom caps and the clam chowder. Food was presented well and visually interesting with the chinaware used and arrangement of the food on the plates. Would recommend it to anyone who enjoys good seafood and a great dining experience.

Amazing food and service

I went to this restaurant last Tuesday for our wedding anniversary. I ordered the tuna. My wife and I were happy when we got our dishes. The tuna was very delicious. The place was beautiful. However, I had an issue. When I finished my dinner almost, a part of the plastic bag was showed me in my dish, so I felt uncomfortable. I told them and showed them that. They only gave us an excuse, but nobody said sorry for that. I dont understand why nobody says sorry. I paid them almost $200, but they made us unhappy.

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary tonight and had our minds set on steak. We usually go to another local steakhouse when we re craving a good steak but decided to change things up this time. Everything was truly remarkable with the highlight (for me) being my 12 oz tenderloin. My wife loved her surf and turf and the clam chowder (pretty sure she found a new lunch spot, lol).

What a stellar place for a birthday lunch! It is always a pleasure coming to the Big Fish as we know Alex and the team will dote on my Mum and ensure we get the best service possible! Our meals were excellent as was the specialty coffee my Mum had! A sure bet if you would like a really enjoyable experience!

I got rack of lamb was absolutely amazing. Cooked right beautiful dish the bourbon flavor was perfectly nice without bother the taste of the meet. So good. Food : 5/5

We had an excellent meal at Big Fish recently. We recently began dining out again, (Covid) and after 2 very good Big Fish lunch experiences this past month, we made a reservation to try the dinner menu. I have mobility issues but the restaurant can accommodate me very well at certain tables. There was an issue with an expanding large group the day of our reservation and my scooter would not be able to be accommodated. Alex, the owner, called 6 hours before and was extremely apologetic and helpful. We rescheduled our reservation and we were treated fantastically by Alex and his team! The food and the service were wonderful. Thank you Alex and your team for a great night out!
