Upscale, open-view kitchen offering artisanal Italian meals & creative cocktails in a stylish space.
We went for dinner and tried the 7 course tasting menu. It’s a really cute boutique restaurant and service was impeccable. The tasting menu was a great way to try a lot of their dishes, and was good portion sizes. While the food was good, not every dish wowed us like some other tasting menus in Saskatoon have. Would still recommend going!
Had the Sweet Beginnings as a starter cocktail and it was amazing. My mom and I shared the Burrata Brocollini, the Mushroom Ravioli and the Striploin. It was the perfect amount. The Brocollini and Ravioli was our highlight, with the Striploin placing last - but still wonderful. A cute and quaint place decorated well with a lovely and caring atmosphere.
Outstanding little place, the food and the cocktails were superb! And the decor and tableware gave it a very cozy vibe, I particularly love the vintage style dishes. I will be dreaming of the eggnog panna cotta for the rest of my life, if I could order a 10 gallon bucket I would. Highly recommend!
Been wanting to come here a while - ended up doing an unexpected solo trip in and the team took care of me very well. Meatballs were incredibly flavourfull... the risotto was out of this world and paired very nicely with a Gavi white wine. This was a fantastic experience and I look forward to returning!
Came to explore Saskatoon for a few days and heard Little Grouse was a must. They were so kind to fit us in on a busy Saturday night. The 3 servers were incredibly hospitable, knowledgeable, and went out of their way to make our experience memorable. My partner and I can honestly say it was one of the best meals we've ever had. We had the meatballs, burrata, squash risotto, rigatoni, and the cacio e pepe. We're still talking about how we haven't tasted a meal as delicious in our home province. The two chefs worked in quiet unison and produced a dining experience we won't forget. Thank you Little Grouse!
My favourite restaurant in Saskatoon — I try to eat here when I’m in the city. The restaurant is small, so be sure to call or book reservations online ahead of time. It’s easy to get to from most hotels — walkable from some. The service is something special. Attentive, but not overwhelming. The menu changes often, but the quality never wavers. This past weekend, I enjoyed the best scallop dish I’ve had in the past 2-3 years, followed by amazing, creamy pasta with kale and fennel sausage. Fresh ingredients prepared with care and served by lovely people.
The service and the food quality were absolutely incredible! I didn’t know what to expect visiting from Edmonton, but everything about our meal was perfect. I wish this restaurant was in Edmonton! Definitely give it a try!
Delicious!! Little, intimate place to have a great time. Every bite was worth it. Great staff. Phone died on me so didn’t capture all, but every meal was great! The ravioli 3 was my favourite. Not a fan of risotto but my friends loved it, so hey you just might.
We ve been big fans of the Grassroots restaurants but, unbelievably, it took us this long to try Grouse . Our experience was every bit as sensational as it has been at F&B, Sticks & Stones, Ayden and Home Slice. It s apparent that these are among the most talented chefs in the country and our family fiercely enjoyed every single bite they prepared. The unforgettable Burrata is highly recommended. I just about died savouring the heavenly creamy center. As if my first course wasn t mind-blowing enough, the mushroom ravioli were over the top. They out-did any pasta I ve had anywhere else. There s no better, even in Vancouver, Calgary or Toronto. Others at my table fully savoured their divine meatballs, special lasagne and the desserts were simply incredible. Cocktails are always memorable at the Grassroots restaurants so we re already counting down to our next visit. Congratulations to everyone at Little Grouse on the Prairie! Vegetarian options: No better place to be if you love cheese!! Dietary restrictions: Lots of vegetarian possibilities. Kid-friendliness: Casual fine dining, comfortable seating for families.
If there s one thing I can say confidently after going to Little Grouse for the first time is that Brian knows exactly what the heck he is doing. The fall menu is perfect. From the focaccia to start, to the beautiful pasta, and the delicious fish it is all fantastic. Do yourself a favour and don t bother with picking your dishes. Let Brian do it for you and you will have zero complaints. Tasting menu highly recommended!!
Had a butternut squash girella pasta with a lemon sauce that was AMAZING...just dreamy. That was worth its price, for sure. We were pretty disappointed with the scallops appetizer because it was $28 for *three* scallops. They had some tasty sauces with them but we felt like it was extremely expensive for what we got (thats where it lost a star). Dessert was very yummy. Anyway, all the food was excellent taste-wise and I had never tried girella pasta so that was a great experience. My husband had a sirloin steak and said it was very good. Service was excellent! We were there as soon as they opened so it was fairly quiet (in a nice way) but I can see that it probably gets quite noisy when its full because its a small restaurant with a lot of mirrors and close seating. The kitchen is fully visable and its neat to see the chefs working on the food!
We had an absolutely amazing meal at Little Grouse. Having been in Canada for less than a month and coming from the fine dining city of Charleston, South Carolina we were very impressed. The mushroom ravioli was out of this world. When the family is in town, we will be back. Dietary restrictions: Several great pescatarian items on the menu!
Incredible food and amazing staff! Highly recommend and will be back.
Had a wonderful dinner here! Excellent service and an incredible meal :) Would definitely Recommend !
A hidden gem. We love this place and the authentic and flavourful food each dish delivers. Must try the beef ragu. Food Never disappoints.
Best fresh Italian food I ve had in a long time! Server was able to explain the dishes and ingredients. Small is good! Small menu and small number of tables turns into hand-made everything and such attention to detail in the cuts and prepping/pressing of the pasta. Both cocktails and mocktails were fresh and unique. I HIGHLY recommend!!
Im generally not a fan of fine dining (high costs, small portions etc). In spite of that, I had a wonderful time at Little Grouse. While the food wasnt particularly filling, it was fresh and delicious. The Squash Agnolotti was one of the best pastas Ive ever had. Service was solid.
Excellent starter and pasta. Service was exceptional as well. The menu, though not extensive, is diverse enough to have options for anyone.
Sara was a delight. 11/10 would recommend. Food was flavourful, interesting, refreshing, and unique. Would eat here regularly if we lived nearby! Casual and relaxed vibe where all feel comfortable.
Cute little restaurant, great food and service!
Our favourite Italian spot! Food & service is always good. Great fine dining!
Fantastic dining experience. Great friendly staff. Delicious food.
Really high quality food and service. Ive been coming back over and over and have never been disappointed.
Consistently delicious after many visits over the years. The knowledgeable staff is engaged and genuinely appreciative. Always a sign of a good operation with great service. Wish I could visit more often! Thanks as always Little Grouse crew!
Been here twice now and both times have been a delicious, amazing experience. Very attentive, friendly staff and the food is Phenomenal. A nice little gem in the heart of Saskatoon. Would highly recommend!
This was my first time to Saskatoon, and I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting here. The food and service were absolutely amazing.
The food and atmosphere is amazing. Service was top tier, with Sarah being an incredible help in choosing between the multiple delicious sounding items. We were surprised at how large the portions were considering it s a pretty fancy place!
Beautiful place to eat on special occasion like birthdays, with business partner, or on the date ;-) Hard-working team (the waitress is the best IMHO!), good food, high quality cocktails. Absolutely love it! Vegetarian options: They have it as well as gluten-free pasta!
Great service, staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.
Amazing food! I was in town for a short visit and my friend brought me here, she said its her go-to, and I see why!
A few things that I didn t love about this dining experience our server was constantly trying to convince us to order more. It felt very pushy. Which I don t like anywhere but I especially don t expect at an upscale restaurant. Also, it felt like a strange environment for such expensive food. I would expect those prices for a fine dining experience.l, white table cloths, etc. but this has more of a cafe feel. The food itself was absolutely delicious. Fantastic food. However, we were still hungry after our rather expensive, although quite small dishes, and ended up going to another restaurant for more (and better priced) food.
Overall great meal, It was $94 for these three dishes and I would say it s pretty worth it. I had the tortellini and ravioli. The tortellini had a very strong wine flavour and the paste being very infused with all the flavours the sauce had. The ravioli was creamy with a hint of sweetness from the hazelnut. The reason why I gave a 4 was that the bread from the meatballs tasted too much like burnt metal, It altered the taste too much and it wasn t a super pleasant flavour. Again, I recommend this place 100% great atmosphere and nice servers.
It was an okay experience. The food was pretty good, and the ravioli was to die for. We had issues with black specs in the ice cubes of a few of our beverages(ice machinne needs to be cleaned). They need to put a little more attention on the atmosphere as light bulbs are out, and when you walk in, the first thing you see is a scuffed up wall. A quick paint job would have helped it look more presentable. The server was very friendly and very efficient, I gave her top stars.
Was a little disappointed in the food, had big expectations and the food was kinda bland.
I had the smoked mushroom ravioli and it was fantastic. Other people with me really liked there dinner. I would highly recommend eating here.
One of the best meals and overall restaurant experiences weve had. Sitting at pasta bar lets you watch the intimate and efficient kitchen, sometimes you get to taste a few things that you didnt order. Excellent seafood, very good wine pairings. Highly recommended.
Good pasta but poor servings.
Excellent spot for an enjoyable date night. Knowledgable and attentive staff with a well-prepared menu and drink list.
Everything was fantastic. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food is elegantly prepared and delicious. The chefs clearly take pride in their craft.
This is the best restaurant in Saskatoon, bar none. Not cheap, but worth every penny. Food is fabulous and wine pairings are thoughtful and perfect! This is our special occasion place. Weve eaten in many fine restaurants in much bigger cities, and this stands above all! Bravo to the staff for another fabulous evening!
I was looking for carbonara but I found the menu is changing seasonally. The current menu doesnt offer carbonara. Instead, I ordered Shrimp Vongole. The dish was served in 10 mins, and it was amazing. The taste was perfectly balanced. Garlic, chili, parmesan, the combination flavor was in harmony with white wine sauce. The big prawns were seared perfectly with tender texture and juicy flesh. Some lemon zest on the plate was the spark to light the dish to a new level. I have to thank the chef for bringing me such an extraordinary dish.
Ravioli was stunningly delicious. Green bean salad, arugula salad, tortellini, and chocolate pudding were tasty. Gnocchi dish was heavy but quite good. Friendly, courteous service. Small, comfortable room. Our bill included wine and beer.
Great food, service and atmosphere watching the chefs create.
Really nice, small, intimate place with excellent service. We did the 5 course tasting menu. It was good but nothing blew me away which was disappointing as I ve had much better and it was $85 each. The meatball was average, the risotto was not good, the pasta was fantastic, steak & croquette & parsnips were fine, tiramisu pudding was way too sweet. At least we were all full after and the wine pairing was very nice.
I did not finish my food but the pasta was phenomenal.... I could not wrap my head around all staff coughing and not covering there mouths. Kind of took the vibe away. As soon as you walk into the bathrooms there was a wave of stale old pee. It sucks because this place was highly recommended.
This is the second time we have dined here. The food was amazing. We enjoyed the tasting menu with wine pairing. Hoping to enjoy it again next year. Hope to see what new creations the tasting menu will have.
Over priced. Small portions. Server tried too hard to upsell everything we ordered. Food was underwhelming.
Very good meal!
Great ambiance, service, chef Tim makes amazing food! Totally recommend.
It was a pleasant time here at Little Grouse on the Prairie. The server took her time to explain all the foods on their menu we asked about. IMO the food were delicious but small in portion. I wish I could try all the food on their menu but time and other factors would not permit. Well, theres always another time to be adventurous and I might be back shortly.
7 course meal was amazing!
Pretty strong establishment. Food is delicious and service is good. Pasta menu and various appetizers are amazing and probably my favorite dishes off the menu. Entrees leave some to be desired - maybe steak could have some bolder seasoning and lean more into the crust. Would eat here again.
Oh my god best meal Ive had in ages! Great service too, next time Im here thisll be my first and second stop
Great food, atmosphere and service. A gem thats too often overlooked
I loved the food! I m glad that my husband chose this restaurant. We both don t drink alcohol, so it would have been so much nicer if they had offered more non-alcohol beverages! They only had about three options. Although food was great, I was surprised to see the waitress dress code. One person was wearing black tank-top that shows her stomach and black joggers(has long hair but not tied). The other person s most body parts were covered with tons of tattoos. If this place had a chic and conservative dress code, it would be a perfect restaurant!! Food was delicious again. Thank you!
It was good, but from what I have heard of the restaurant I think it fell short of my expectations. Appetizer: We ordered the housemade ricotta which was very good, and without being prompted the waitress brought us some more bread to finish it off which was great. 10/10 Mains: Spinach Marscapone Nutmeg Tortellini, Red Wine Butter Sauce - first time having a red wine butter sauce and it was definitely interesting 9/10 Gnocchi al Forno - if someone put this in front of me without telling me what it was I dont think I would ever come to the conclusion of Gnocchi. It was closer to a vegan meatball. 5/10 The service was awesome and they were able to sit right away without a reservation. 10/10
Very tasty, excellent service and the portion sizes were much better than the last time we were there - it was either a fluke or they responded to feedback. Perfect experience!
What a gem! The grilled octopus was unbelievable! Fantastic vibe. I even liked the music. Will definitely be back.
Great service, very delicious food! Must go in Saskatoon
Extraordinary pasta and our server, Eve, was more knowledgeable about the menu and wine list than we deserved!!
Just amezing after working in maze by Gordon this is the one felt like I am back in game .
Food was Awesome and the waitress was so friendly. Highly recommend.
Absolutely loved the dining experience at this place. The tasty authentic cooked with great sauces sirloin and the fish dishes. The appetisers and the ravioli were excellent served right in time. The meatballs with pasta are the ones you do not want to stop eating. And yes the wine, white one, that been recommended by our server was the excellent addition to the food. The ambience, staff and the serving qualities were at very high level. Thank you, it was a positive experience, we came out very happy.
I love the vibe in there; its cute and petite. their food and service are excellent
Absolutely fabulous meal and service in an intimate environment
Fantastic.
Great food, portions sizes were smaller than average but the food was so worth it. 5 people did the 4 course meals and everyone enjoyed it, friendly staff, overall great experience. Vegetarian options: Accommodating to all restrictions Dietary restrictions: Accommodating to all restrictions, just let them know
Great food, great service, wonderful cocktail list. Do not miss this gem.
Amazing food!! If you are visiting Saskatoon...you MUST stop at this famtastic place....great atmosphere, fabulous food, great staff and Amazing chef.
This restaurant came highly recommended and did not disappoint. The 7 course chefs menu was incredible, the pacing was perfect. Sarah and Eve were engaging and made an amazing meal just that much better. Shout out to Eve for her meal ending cocktail creation. We challenged Eve to beat Travis Travesty (which she knew) from Ayden the night before. Because we loved both servers, we will declare it a tie and be back for a cocktail off!
Went here last night for our 16th anniversary and had an amazing time. Staff was helpful and amazing the the cook made an amazing meal.
The food and wine were tasty but not worth the $120 for their four course meal with wine pairings. The portions (except for the pasta) were small, especially the pumpkin panicotta dessert. Unfortunately a bit of a disappointment for our 30th wedding anniversary meal. Also, when I told the server about the dessert not much of a reaction.
So amazing on so many levels. Its expensive but worth it! Its a whole experience.
The food was extremely delicious and the service was outstanding. The waitress seemed extremely knowledgeable of the entire menu and was glad to walk my partner and I through the dishes.
Great restaurant, with great staff and amazing food. We had the 4 course family style meal with Aged Beef Meatballs, the Spinach tortellini with a red wine butter sauce, the charred striploin and a nice little dessert. Highly recommend.
Excellent food, excellent service, friendly staff! We had the 7 course meal fir our anniversary and it was amazing! Would definitely recommend.
gnocchi are strange hard fennel pollen bread doughballs (perhaps overworked and let to dry or forgot to boil?) sauce(tastey like marzano so assume use quality) is tasty but couldnt eat them and prefer not to make the table uncomfortable sending food back. bagged from the store are softer fluffier and taste more like real potato. bread was also burnt and bitter(small detail but one should be dialed in with fine dining) that came with the awesome meatballs!(i didnt try assume pink inside from wine? as looked like cured pork but everyone loved them). grilled octopus was bitter which means it wasnt handled/treated/cleaned well or of poorer quality but was tender. would say its staffing from pandi but was meh even 5 years ago and has gone down further it would seem. chefs choice is fun i guess for people in sask and keeps them afloat . staff are good even if we got entrees before prima/pasta course as they didnt want it to get cold, but overall even pre pandemic 3* is generous for the price. money is better spent at the owners other spots the chef here just isnt the one from other spots and its clear. the shrimp style clam pasta folks enjoyed in the small intimate grandmas house spot!
The food was a utter mess, arriving cold and looking like it was chewed up than placed on my the plate. The lettuce salad I order was by no means something that can be remotely called fresh. The service greatly lacking, the coffee I ordered never came to our table. My coworker experienced what I can only call racism, she was treated with a flipant attitude. Her poutine arrived hidden by a bunch of leaves and tasted even worse than my salad as well as her cold coffee that arrived much later than the table that came later than us. Im highly displeased with my experience, would not recommend. Edited: Do not gaslight me I know which restaurant I was at, the food was a mess of green I wouldnt be able to tell if it was lettuce or something else. Fries, poutine or potatoes for clarity.
We did the 4 course tasting menu and I added the wine paring. Amazing food and perfectly paired wines for all 4 courses!
Delicious and unique experience
Great food, good service, but something was lacking. We will always return, but just no ummpf.
Amazing food and service! So tasty, we will be back!
Food and service were excellent
hands down, best fresh made pasta here. wow. I cant wait to go back and try others.
Food was amazing, service was great. We will definitely be back!
Best tasting food in Saskatoon, unique experience with a romantic atmosphere. Worth the visit for a special occasion or a treat. Would recommend to anyone looking for something special.
Love this restaurant. Cozy little spot. Wonderful food. Great chefs. Always tasty, one of my favourite spots in s toon for sure. The meatballs are always a must have to start and there is no bad pasta choice to choose. Always excellent!
Great Service and amazing food. The smaller restaurant allows for a more intimate and relaxed experience.
What a fabulous restaurant in Saskatoon A carefully crafted menu Semifreddo for dessert. Bravo!
Ordered 7 Course Alla Famiglia, it was unbelievably tasty and so much food! The meal was so enjoyable the only thing I got a picture of was the wine (which was also very good for it being the most inexpensive). Small restaurant, with a nice atmosphere. A little on the pricier side, but you get what you pay for.
The food was so amazing, we were blown away! We had appetizers, pasta and risotto. Great wine, great service, the lovely dishes and plating, the whole experience was fantastic. But especially the food! Wow!!
Great restaurant- freshly made pasta. one of the best i ve been to in a long time .
Very good food. A bit disappointed in the charred octopus, for what they charge there wasnt a lot to enjoy. Other than that it was a good night out and a very good meal.
My wife and I took my parents here for their birthday last night, the food was great the atmosphere was great, but the portions were abysmal. We all ordered the four course meal and the three of them got wine pairings. Rather than each getting our own separate plates brought to us they brought what looked like a plate for two people and set it in the middle of the table and just expected us to divvy it up. Each of us Recieved about four bites of salad, seven small tortellini noodles, maybe 3-4 Oz of steak, and two single bites of two small desserts. Our bill was close to 600 dollars. My wife and I wondered a few times if a mistake had been made on the portions, as the food brought out looked like it was a portion for two people at best. My wife and I have been here before and this was very much not the experience. The first time we came about two years ago, we left feeling fully fed and satisfied with the value of the portions. If this was indeed a mistake little grouse please rectify it. If this is what your are serving four adults now as a meal, I will take my business elsewhere. I actually went home and ate a meal after leaving little grouse. Also nobody wants to split up portions on a plate between four people. Maybe a couple on a date night, that might be a nice intimate thing but in a group?! Bring people individual plates!
Great service, pasta was fantastic and some great sharing plates.
One word: Delicious! Ironically, our first date entailed a lengthy conversation about Prairie Chickens and we choose Little Grouse to celebrate our ten year anniversary of that first date.
Great food and great atmosphere. Highly recommend trying this place out.
I absolutely loved everything about this place. The atmosphere, venue, staff, and food were all so good. This little restaurant was so cozy, warm and inviting. The staff was incredibly friendly, on top of our needs and so knowledgeable... and the food ! Oh my god the food! I had the beef carpaccio, grilled octopus and the ravioli. The ravioli was incredible. I definitely recommend getting that and the grilled octopus and beef carpaccio were still very yummy. I will return to this place the next time I m in Saskatoon!
An overall excellent experience! We did the 6 course tasting menu and every single dish was an explosion of flavor! The staff were extremely friendly and well versed on their explanation of each course. It was such a great meal and we can t wait to do it again! It is the perfect place for a date night or to celebrate a special occasion!
went there hungry and left there hungry, very expensive and the food portions that were shared between my wife and I and were very small. Thought for 300.00+ it would be unreal food and a cool experience but was disappointed in the service and the way the food was presented. I would recommend Taverna over this place any day better tasting food and portions are perfect, with a price that doesnt break the bank.
Amazing food
Sooooo gooood. I could live off pasta forever and to be able to enjoy fresh, made to order pasta, oh my! Had the papardelle with pork agrodolce, wow! The service was great (yet again) and atmosphere... well we loved the quaintness and small size of the restaurant. Our waitress recommended a bottle of red that went well with our meals. The tomato salad and strawberry sorbet = summer in a bowl. Service and food a 10/10! Don t hesitate to visit!
The supper came out perfectly paced and we enjoyed each and every dish. Started with a crab dish and an amazing salad. Next was a ravioli in a brown sugar butter sauce. Then spaghetti clams in a wonderful broth. Following was an amazing glazed trout in a tomato medley. Last was an amazing peanut butter Budino. beautiful
Food was excellent! Service was friendly and impeccable. Definitely a repeat visit in the near future.
Great food, service and atmosphere. Very covid friendly we felt relaxed and comfortable to eat here , will certainly go again soon
Food and service was excellent!! Everything is made in house and is so fresh! Very nice comfy atmosphere!
The food is trendy, and the restaurant somehow has both a big city restaurant and cozy hole in the wall feel to it. They have an Alla Familia (family-style) group meal option that I hope to try one day. Not sure which wine to order? Ask your server for recommendations then try a sample. Im really glad to have been.
We had the small alla famiglia. The food was delicious, especially the Rotolo and the citrus dessert.
The food was great, atmosphere good. Only downside was space between tables and a cold draft from front door.
Took staff and friends for the large afamilia. Everything was delicious, and everyone said they enjoyed the experience afterwards.
Really intimate place with amazing food. On the other hand, wine list is quite expensive and portions are fairly small, but overall a very good restaurant.
After ten courses I had here for 3 hours, we still feel hungry and have to eat instant noodles after we went back home
Food was delicious, as were the cocktails. Highly recommended. Had the family 10 course meal and my favourite was the steak with arugala salad, olive oil and balsamic vinegar. It was cooked to perfection. You need to try this restaurant.
Indian foot
Fun place. Just let them bring you whatever. They explain each dish as they bring it to your table.
Was out for a birthday with 6 people. Quite possibly the worst restaurant meals Ive had in saskatoon. Had risotto and it tasted like watery rice with 3 small shrimp. Other meals were not any better. Extremely disappointing for what is supposed to be a high end restaurant. Service was good but food was terrible.
Fantastic food experience, with equally great service, we had the chefs 6 course meal and every dish played with ones pallet.
Wow delicious food! Had the steak.
Went up and beyond to accommodate us even though they had a full restaraunt for the evening. All the food was so incredibly delicious. We did the 6 course meal which is a unique way to experience a night out. We also really enjoyed the customer service, every plate was served with the server giving us a detailed description of what we were eating which we really enjoyed. And the service was very attentive to our needs and very friendly!
Awesome food. Great service!
Good food but a bit pricey
Always great service and wonderful food. We attended a special event so I cannot comment on their new menu. We hope to return soon to try it out.
It was good, but not GREAT! Prices are steep for the meal you get.
Everything here is awesome, even after the menu change. Sit at the pasta bar, all the cool kids do. Plus, you get to watch the cooks in action. Its like dinner theater!
Good food, prepared perfectly.
I cannot express just how good the food was. Came here for my 30th and had the 6-course dinner. Im not the biggest seafood fan, but even those dishes were amazing. There wasnt a serving I didnt adore, easily the best restaurant Ive ever been to. While definitely not cheap, it is definitely worth the price! Ive now been to all 3 restaurants owned by Dale Mckay, and each one has been just excellent.
Amazing food and service. I highly recommend this place for a food experience rather than just simply eating. Its an expensive place but there is good reason for it.
May 2019 - I feel terrible that I have to change my review, but our first visit back after the staff overhaul was not what we expected. The staff is still friendly, but the quality of food has went down terribly. They also dropped prices about 5%, but the poor quality of the food means they are more overpriced than ever. With such radical changes I think they d have been better off changing the name and starting from scratch. Unfortunately this is not the restaurant that earned all the rave reviews you hear about. This was my favorite restaurant and now I m sad to say we won t be back. (Original review) Hands down my favourite restaurant in Saskatoon. Truly exceptional food
Really nice meal. Service was friendly, expert and quick. We got our small plates so quickly I think Chef knew what we were going to order before we got there! I had charred octopus which was perfect... almost creamy texture in the centre and nice crunch with the char. Overall an excellent meal, will go again, highly recommend.
Best meal Ive had in a long time! Perfect portion sizes! I even had room for a delicious dessert!
Update: Dropping from 5-star and glowing recommendations down to a 3-star and suggested pass. Upon sitting down and looking at the menu, it was immediately apparent something was different; a smaller one-page offering, devoid of the authentic dishes and creative, charming ingredients I had loved. Spaghetti, linguine, & tortellini...? Where am I? Turning around in my seat, I don t see any familiar faces behind the counter - in front, a new hostess & new wait staff. Ordering two starters and two mains, service was friendly (though not as radiantly charismatic) and presentation was solid. Taste was not what I would have expected - lacking flavour, not prepped to perfection as I had come to love & expect from the previous team & menu. Octopus rough & chewy, buratta missing salt & its creamy texture - pasta still fresh made, but boring creations and not well seasoned. Decided not to give the dessert options a shot. If you hadn t had a chance to eat at Little Grouse with the original team, it may be worth a chance as you wouldn t know what you re missing - if you re a longtime fan, I would suggest you don t return as you ll only be supremely disappointed. Unfortunately it has morphed into a generic Italian offering you would have no problem matching to any other strong independent Italian joint out there. Really should have shuttered the place and re-branded so as not to set the expectations and disappoint former guests - it feels like they are riding on the coat-tails of their previous reviews. Bummed to have one less stellar restaurant in the city, something I had always been excited to visit & show off at every opportunity - Little Grouse was un-paralleled and my personal favourite. I don t know what happened, but hope the entire team from the previous iteration of the restaurant has moved onto bigger & better things.
Amazing! A must eat at in Saskatoon!
Came here for our wedding anniversary. The tables are SUPER close together so that was quite uncomfortable. The pricing was pretty high for the portions you get, we were satisfied, but not full. That s where they lost the star. However, they were very accommodating with doing a dairy free tasting menu for my husband! Service was great and everything was different and exciting!
Exceptional service in a beautiful intimate space with exquisite food.
Great, fresh, scratch made Italian classics.
The staff is well trained, friendly and knowledgeable. The food is outstanding and fresh. This is one of my favourite restaurants in Saskatoon.
The meal was so tasty. We were made to feel welcome and well taken care of even though we came later in the evening.
Excellent food. Great service & hospitality. Very nice place. 1st visit ... definitely not last
The restaurant is cute, but very small and the tables are very close together. The food is extremely tasty, however, the menu is quite limited, and more of a problem are the prices for the portions. Portions are very small - especially the risotto (which was priced at $30 - and I could have easily eaten 3). However, it was delicious. The ravioli was also great, and the portion of it was a bit more reasonable. Overall, good quality food, just need to re-think pricing!
Great food.
Theres a lot of hype over this restaurant but its really for nothing. The food was okay at best and the service was nothing special. Menu is terribly limited and the portion sizes are not representative of the dollar paid. Ordered the Mushroom Risotto. Got a terribly small portion (about 2 scoops) of rice mixed with sauce for $30. Rice wasnt cooked fully in the sauce, appeared to have been added later in the cooking process. Mushrooms in the risotto werent cooked entirely and some pieces were inedible. The uncooked mushrooms on top were even worse. Other members of our party had the pastas. The portion sizes were equally as small and the tortellini didnt have any sauce with it. None of the dishes featured any sides, starters, garnishes, or anything of the sort. You get exactly what the menu states, nothing else. Theres honestly nothing special about the service or the food.
Good good, nice atmosphere.
I cant give much more than three stars, which hurts. I think we came in on a tough night for the team. Still... service got them the stars. We hadnt tried the new menu under the new chef, so were excited, but it was tough.
Food was excellent.
Amazing staff. Food is also amazing. All-around amazing.
Really great! Probably my fave spot in Saskatoon! Highly recommended
decent food, but definitely overpriced for what it is
Food, wine and service was exceptional. Second time here. But rather chilly near the door and windows.
Some of the best pasta in the city. Local ingredients with incredible flavor.
Went for my wedding anniversary last weekend and was blown away by the experience. We had the 10 course Alla Famiglia with wine pairings and everything was beyond delicious. We sat up at the pasta bar (which, Id highly recommend doing at any restaurant that offers this kind of seating option), and got to watch the meals being prepared, and chat with the head chef. The sommelier did a wonderful job of pairing the wine with the food that was being served, and the limoncello that was prepared with the dessert course was the perfect end to the meal. Service was prompt and friendly, and all staff that brought the different dishes to us described them wonderfully. Would eat here again and again. 5/5 service 5/5 food taste 5/5 atmosphere
A dining experience, service, menu, wine list, and cocktail craft to rival restaurants in any major city in North America. One of the best nights Ive had in a long time.
Quick and courteous door staff. My meal came to me in about 15 minutes and presentation was very good. Turns out I could ve ordered something that I would have enjoyed more. All considered it was very tasty just not my cuppa tea. I find it a bit pricey for the portion size however I enjoyed my visit just the same.
Little bit pricey. But AWESOME FOOD!!!! 10/10 So price makes sense. Lol
Burrata was great, quail okay. Not as good as Ayden.
Fabulous food. The best Italian I ve had in North America. Service was also wonderful. We booked a reservation through open table and it was missed so our table wasn t ready when we first got there. The staff was very apologetic and gave us prosseco on the house for the wait. They also were very accommodating of my food restrictions. Highly recommend the house-made limoncello.
This was our first experience at this little gem of a restaurant. They did not disappoint! We ordered the alla famiglia (family) menu. it consisted of 7 different incredibly delicious dishes that were presented to us over the course of 2 1/2 hours. This isnt a cheap option, but we didnt regret it. As each dish was brought out, the server carefully explained what was in it and how it was prepared. One of our group had food allergies that many chefs find debilitating ... not here! They rose to the challenge and made sure that we were still served the very best of what they had to offer. The service was impeccable. The staff are attentive, but not overbearing. Although we had one principal server, they all work as a team. Our dishes were frequently brought out by other servers who presented and described them with care. Empty plates were courteously whisked away by any one of the servers who happened to be coming by. Minor gripe: they are very popular and the seating is tight. Dont expect to be able to carry on a quiet, intimate conversation not matter where you are seated. Also request a table *away* from the window. Although window seats are desirable in many places, in this restaurant they are located right along the entranceway. All the patrons must walk tightly by these tables on their way in and out of the restaurant leaving you with little peace to enjoy the wonderful food. This may have been our first visit to this little gem, but it wont be our last.
Amazing!!!
Ive been a repeat customer when my travels take me to Saskatoon and Ive been impressed with quality ingredients, service, and presentation each time. Im always looking forward to my next visit
As always, Little Grouse was incredible. All of the flavours are spot on, and Jesse and the team do an amazing job. You have to have to alla famiglia to really try out the menu and a whole bunch of flavours. I came in with my parents to celebrate successfully defending my PhD Dissertation and Jesse even gave us some white truffle for the main course! Will definitely be coming back!
Terribly overpriced and overrated AND as everything views the kitchen, we watched as the chef - with no hat or hair net - continually flipped his hair as he was preparing the plates. We had to double check all our food for hair! As well, they dropped menus and then didnt explain the specials until we had already decided! Would NOT recommend.
Excellent meal, excellent service - very enjoyable!
Our group had the A La Famiglia 7 course meal (small option). Highly recommend. 3 appetizers, 2 pastas, 1 entree and 1 dessert. We were all very full by the end of the night! The chef chose what to bring us so we didnt have much say in the menu. I would imagine you could have a very different experience on different nights depending what courses they bring you. In this respect I would only recommend a little more adventurous or easy to please people go here. If youre a picky eater, the A La Famiglia might not be for you. The pasta was incredible! One note on the beef entree, it was very rare. Some of our party really enjoyed it and others not as much, but thats simply a personal preference. The flavours of everything were exceptional. Great presentation and good atmostphere. The restaurant is very tiny so it got a little busy and noisier as the evening progressed, but overall a really nice place. The food was delicious!
