516 Great Northern Rd, Sault Ste. Marie, ON P6B 4Z9, Canada
Easygoing Italian classics in a cozy, tavern-style setting with a wine list & delivery options.
Was in tonight for a work dinner. Enjoyed the Greek salad. Dressing was delicious. Will be back for sure!
The anticipation was high, the place itself is nice, the service was good, the food was disappointing. The food was good enough, but nothing special.
Giovanni's is a fantastic Italian restaurant and is worth the visit over anything else in the area for good comfort food. Everything I ate was delicious and I have to give a shoutout to the homemade cheesecake selection. I had a cinnamon bun cheesecake which was the perfect ending to a great meal. Next time I'm in the area I'll be back!
Nice looking resturant and very friendly staff. We ordered the oso buco which was perfect, lemon ricotta seafood fettuccine which was AMAZING but didnt taste like the water was salted in my dads opinions salad and bread were good, so was 3 cheese pasta and angel hair tute mare
OMG! This restaurant is simply amazing. The food service was a 10+ I ordered shrimp mussels pasta with angel hair pasta OMG! So good. This is a definitely a restaurant you must try. Thank you for a great meal.
Friendly servers, well run for such a busy place. We didn't wait too long for our meals. The Arancini was very, very good, the calamari was average- cooked well, just not a lot of flavor. The pasta and pizza were good!
A large group of us ate here on a busy Saturday night. Reservation for 6:30pm. Our waiter was Rudy and what a pro he was! He was prompt with getting drinks, taking orders and our food didn’t take long to arrive. As far as I know, he also got everything right. I ordered the Penne Portobello with a side garden salad and both were delicious! Everyone at our table (there were 3) seemed pleased with their dishes.
This place is of elegance. The staff was friendly. The restroom was very clean. Family-friendly atmosphere restaurant. They do take call-in reservations. The food was very delicious. I would love to come back. Come visit Sault Ste Marie in Canada and try this place. Enjoy if you do. You won't regret it.
Great service ,food and atmosphere
My wife and I make a point of it to stop here on our way through. We love the food, atmosphere and service.
Hour and a half wait for our food. Half our table didn t finish their meals as it was inedible. Definitely won t be back.
Great value. Nice environment
Great food, service, and atmosphere. The fettuccine alfredo is truly delicious!
Was a lovely experience, I went with a bunch of co-workers. The server was delightful and so sweet.
Giovannis hosted our hockey team for dinner. Great place for a team dinner. The staff treated us amazing. The food was perfect. Thanks to the Staff of Giovannis for such a great night and hosting us. Highly recommend!
The atmosphere is great. I had the chicken Parm and it was fantastic. Their gnocchi was perfectly cooked and the sauce was great and tasted really fresh. Would recommend!
We went after doing the Agawa Canyon train ride, eight in our group. Restaurant was really busy. Their draft lines were contaminated so only bottled beer available. Bud light, Coors light, Canadian, and one other. Didn t have a drink, as I had been looking forward to trying a local craft beer. Some of our group ordered wine, and it was good. Wife ordered a martini, and it took forever to arrive. She ordered a second, as the first was tasty, and the second one also took forever to arrive. It had 2 fruit flies swimming in it, so returned it. Bread served before dinner. There was olive oil to go with it on the table, but they were out of balsamic vinegar which was a bit disappointing. I had the spaghetti carbonara which was good. Waitress was lovely, but run off her feet, and service was distracted and slow as a result. It wasn t horrible, but I won t go back. There are lots of other restaurants in the Soo with a better dining experience.
We enjoyed a delicious meal here on a recent trip to Sault Ste Marie. The staff were friendly, the service was excellent and the veal and Caesar salad were amazing! We enjoyed the food so much that we got takeout Caesar salad and seafood pasta on an additional night during our stay. We definitely recommend dining here.
Food was great and the service was amazing .
The food is great and the servers themselves are very friendly. It seems every time I go the place is extremely busy. Service is usually really good but can be, at times, a little slow depending on the day. I like the atmosphere, its fairly traditional for an Italian restaurant. The food is a little pricy so, for me, its not really a place I can eat at regularly. That said, I do enjoy going there for the occasional night out.
My wife is originally from the Soo, and every time we go back up and visit, we eat here. Unfortunately, the last time we were here, it had changed. The quality and portions have definitely gone down, and it just wasnt the same as the other times we had visited. Too bad, as we really enjoyed it here before. We will probably look at other options on our next visit.
Waitress Victoria was very friendly & passionate about her job We got our appetizers quickly Bit of a wait for our mains but restaurant was packed so I can imagine they had alot of orders to prepare & cook My husband had veal chop with risotto(one of the specials that evening) & calamari appetizer Veal was very tasty, risotto was ok Calamari seemed like a deep fried version out of ready made frozen package My gf penne with sun-dried tomatoes was very tasty... perfectly al dente..huge portion Overall I recommend this restaurant The menu is massive..lots of choices of appetizers, pastas & mains Perfect for large groups As a couple it was a bit noisy but wait staff & good food made it a worthwhile visit Dietary restrictions: GF pasta upon request
Driving back from Toronto to Thunder Bay and stopped in the Sault overnight. Driving by Giovannis looked inviting. Sat at the bar and had a Peroni and spaghetti and meatballs. Meal was great and service was excellent. Highly recommend. Dennis Food
Happy people. Great food
A truly memorable experience. In regards to the food: it was delicious and very reasonably priced! The service was top tier (we were a party of 12): the staff were extremely friendly and quick, not to mention they were really good with the kids and taking time to listen to each childs order (my son can be tricky to understand at the best of times). As for the atmosphere, it stands between high class and quaint all at once. Its definitely worth visiting, and I highly recommend it. Although I didnt have the chance to try any of the deserts, it all looked delightful! As for myself, I will be returning. Parking: The parking lot is quite large, with a good amount of spaces. Given the quality of the restaurant, Im not surprised that finding parking close by is tricky. Kid-friendliness: The staff were extremely patient with the children and made it a point to really listen/understand them. They offer high chairs for smaller children and readily ask if you need one.
Stop by the town, nice spot to have a dinner. Seafood pasta is decent.
Great decor and fantastic food. I had the tour of Italy pasta which was delicious and more than ample. Fantastic staff as the waiter explained over 15 menu items to the people beside us Parking: Plenty fot the trstaurant
Travelling through the Soo and spending the night in a nearby hotel. This restaurant had wonderful prompt service. My husband ordered takeout and was asked by three different staff members if he had been helped. It was amazing kind service after a very roughy trip and the food was superb. Thanks so much would highly recommend and will stop again!
Great food, made room for us when they were very busy.
Pasta was very good and the chocolate cake was delicious
I have been a loyal customer at Giovanni s for over 30 years, which makes it especially disappointing to write this review. Upon my arrival, I was surprised to find the women s restroom in an unclean condition, with a non-functioning toilet. Fortunately, our server quickly made up for the initial setback, arriving promptly, and displaying a high level of knowledge, attentiveness, and friendliness throughout our visit. I ordered the ribs and jumbo shrimp special, while my dining companion chose the veal chop special. However, after a 35-minute wait, our server returned to apologize for the delay, explaining that the kitchen was busy handling a large party in the private room. After another 20 minutes, our meals finally arrived. Unfortunately, the shrimp I received was cold and undercooked, a serious concern. Our server apologized and removed my plate, but by that point, I had lost my appetite for the shrimp and requested it not be remade. A new meal was brought after another 15-minute wait. What disappointed me most was that, despite the situation, no manager or supervisor approached our table to offer any kind of quality check or reassurance. When the bill arrived, I was surprised to see that I was charged the full price for my meal, including my sparkling water, cappuccino, and wine. Given the circumstances, I had expected at least a gesture, such as a complimentary item, to acknowledge the inconvenience. I quietly paid the bill, tipping 20% as the service from our server had been exemplary, but regrettably, I left feeling let down by the management s lack of attentiveness and basic customer care. Serving undercooked seafood is a serious issue, and I would have appreciated some form of acknowledgment from the management. Sadly, this experience has caused you to lose a loyal customer.
The portions were generous, the food was delicious and service was great!
Ehhhhhhhh. So nice! I lika tha fooda. So friendly people, no chooch!
Gay friendly , 2 years customer always good and being nice to me , the owner have great customer service and all servers.
This place is always awesome. Great service and food
Dietary restrictions: Gluten-free pasta Food
Consistently great service and meals
Next time we make reservations well be sure to reserve a booth for more privacy as it can get pretty loud when they are packed. But, in spite of how busy they were when we went here for the first time, the food (harlic bread to start, 10 oz New York cut with shrimp & mashed potatoes, Superior Pickerel with fries, bread basket, closed with a nice espresso shot) and service was excellent. Even being rushed off their feet, our server was always friendly and smiling. Now, NOW we know what all the fuss is about this place. Will most definitely come here again!
The espresso cheesecake is worth 5 stars by itself.
Our waitress was wonderful, seemed to enjoy her job, very friendly and attentive. Food was SIMPLY DELICIOUS !!!
Appreciated the staffs personal attention, friendly and attentive.
Wasnt too happy that people that came in after us were served first. I understand busy but orders should be time stamped. Pasta doesnt take that long. We waited almost 40 minutes for our food.
1000/10 best food in Sault st. Marie hands down. The service was amazing. Thank you to our server Britney for an amazing experience. Highly recommended.
Great Veal Ossobuco, risotto and pastas. Authentic Italian food at its best.
Great food and service...wee bit pricey but great food
The food was absolutely horrible. I had the veal piccata. It was way way too salty and no other herb or spice was detectable. I think the meat was of inferior quality and may have been in a salty marinade to tenderize it. What ever the reason it was awful. My husband had pasta which was so overcooked it was like glue. The sauce was tasteless. He is not a fussy eater but said it was the worst pasta he has had and said that canned spaghetti has more flavour. I tasted his and I would agree that it was the worst I ve tasted. I really can t fathom how this place has received all these positive reviews - maybe people are so used to eating garbage at fast food places that they have lost the ability to distinguish good from bad food. The service however was good -the waitress was friendly and attentive.
Awesome food!
We dined in - family of 6. Our server Rudy was great - helpful, easygoing, friendly and attentive. Food was fantastic - we ordered calamari, pizza carbonara, fettucine alfredo, tortellini al fromaggio, plus spaghetti and meatballs for the kids - all delicious. Plus the spicy margherita was great too. Atmosphere is really nice.
Food was horrible.. Fettuccine Alfredo was starchy.. Sauce was worse than jar sauce. No flavour at all.My friend had Chicken parmesan the chicken was hard not fresh.. marinara sauce taste like tomato paste. Waitress was amazing..We will not be back. We were celebrating my moms 85th Birthday and very disappointed. You definitely need a new cook
We were here on a Saturday night at 7 and the place was full! The hostess said the take out was closed but took pity and let us order some. It was delicious!!! The beef stew was just like my mother s who is an Italian immigrant. The pasta arriabiata fantastic! The service was excellent even for take out, felt so welcomed! Great restaurant and legit food while being very well priced. Best meal we ve had on our Canada wide trip.
I always stop here when I go up home to the Sault
Classic Italian dishes served in a classic and informal setting.
JUNE 22/2024 l had the lasagna it was delicious. We all had a great meal.Great service. Enjoyed the evening.
The restaurant space is spacious, the service staff is very attentive and cute. The shop also has surprise dessert gifts for customers birthdays. But because my taste is not suitable, I find the dishes and meat very salty. I really like the salads at the shop :)
The pasta was really good! It took a while for the food to come out, but the restaurant was busy so it s understandable.
Great food and service, would definitely recommend!
The pasta dishes are amazing!! The Spaghetti Carbonara is outstanding!!
Get the Arancini appetizer
I prefer a creamer Alfredo sauce, however the food was very good
Amazing!!!
We started with the 3 pepper mussels, which were fantastic. My wife and I shared the Bacon Carbonara and Alfredo Fettuccine with Chicken. The Chicken was very good and moist, the Alfredo was just a little thick for my taste. The Carbonara was to die for, I cannot recommend that enough. I will definitely be ordering that again!
Friendly staff and good food.
One of the best (Italian) restaurant in the Sault. Great service by friendly staff and atmosphere.
Food is delicious and at a fair price and good portions. Service was amazing. That Elvis looking guy server took really good care of us and was very attentive. I would recommend him!!
Nice atmosphere, entertaining staff, nice protions and sauce with a lovely red pairing. Thanks for your hospitality Sunny! Cheers T.W. Food
Best Italian in Sault Ste Matie
As usual, the calamari is so overdone that its dry and chewy with the breading mostly falling off. Pasta dishes were good and service fine but nothing to rave about. Pic is of breading left on the plate after calamari was eaten. Spent over $160 for 2 small glasses of cheap wine, 1 appy, 1 starter salad and 2 seafood pasta dishes (light on the seafood).
Very good all the way but didnt serve gelato..!!
As always, a great dining experience!
Great food and especially friendly and efficient service.
We had had exceptional service from Sidney.... and delicious food. Thamk you Giovannis for time and money well spent. Dietary restrictions: Had a wonderful gluten freebdish!
The food is great and the staffs are friendly... It cozy for a chill
Outstanding meals! Really enjoyed everything they served today. The soup with the pork filled tortellini especially! Italian deli sandwich was extremely flavorful without being overfilling! Highly recommend !
We enjoyed our food and our time, and our waitress was very attentive to our needs.
I know the owners family from Calabria. Authentic Italian food. Buonissimo, Grazie Mille
We had a bit of a wait even with a reservation but the young man that was hosting was great at keeping us updated. I was disappointed in my risotto as it was overcooked but our server Sally was amazing and made the experience excellent!
Kitchen was out of a few items when we ordered. I would like to assume it was because they only order fresh, and they try their best to keep minimal waste. I had the Carbonara pizza and it was good. I would try something different next time but would recommend it to a friend as a good simple pizza. The server was very polite and respectful and did a wonderful job, but she did seem overwhelmed a bit so over my service was a bit slow. We all have those days but I noted as it was my experience. Would certainly go again as I am also a big fan of one of their associate restraints - Burger Don
Huge portions, friendly service, lacked a little atmosphere given that it was an Italian restaurant playing classic oldie hits. Now I love a good classic hit but it didn t suit the setting. The food was good although needs a little more finesse eg salad sits in a pool of dressing and requires mixing on the plate which is difficult to do without making a huge mess (protect yourself with napkins, don t wear your Sunday best haha) - needs half the amount of dressing put on the plate in the first place as the salad was swimming in it. Pasta was not coated in its sauce which was also put on the bottom of the plate with plain pasta and other ingredients placed on top and requires mixing at the table. Not as messy as the salad but until discovered, the pasta was presenting as bland and I had to go digging to see if there even was sauce under my giant mound of spaghetti - suggestion would be to have the server quickly mention where the sauce is hiding as plates are served if this is the norm. Ingredients were fresh and flavourful overall. Come hungry! Skip the margarita unless you re a fan of bright green lime cordial.
The best Italian restaurant!
Have you ever read a review of a place and thought, yes, this is going to be great . Well, this is exactly what happened tonight. As we are passing through the Sault, we were excited to find a non-chain restaurant and seeing the reviews and scores, we figured it was going to be great. Well .the service was great full credit there. Unfortunately the Veal Parmesan was anything but - in fact the only reason I gave one star is because of the salad and the bread (the bread was great). But, the Veal Parmesan and Penne Pasta was absolutely not worth anywhere close to $34.99. The pasta had obviously been cooked much earlier and had been either sitting in water or been washed after cooking as there was no starch at all. Further to this, I found the penne pasta to be extremely thin and was far overcooked (most of it was broken ). Now the sauce on the pasta was super great flavour. The Veal Parmesan - I was with three others and we were hungry or I would have sent it back and just ordered another salad but I pushed through. I told the waitress about my disappointment with the veal and the overcooked pasta. While she was extremely apologetic and very kind I insisted I only wanted the chef - ahem to be notified. Our waitress returned to explain that the manager wanted to discount my dinner by $10 to which I clearly stated, This is not what I was looking for at all and definitely do not do that. The cook should be told this is unacceptable and learn to cook the pasta properly. As for the Veal - I am convinced it was reheated; it was a poor quality, deep fried, dried out piece of something that may at one time had been in the beef family with some sauce and cheese on top (trust me, the on top ingredients did not hide the poor taste and quality.) The manager then came to our table; extremely kind and a wonderful exchange but again, I insisted that this was about the chef being told that this quality was completely off the mark. We paid our complete bill. I am not sure there are many options in this city, but I definitely would not return based on this experience - sometimes a chain is better than the unpredictability of an independent restaurant, but I m not giving up yet! Excellent front of the house staff!!!
We went for a birthday. I have always had a great experience at Giovannis. My recent experience was less then great. I had some lifestyle changes baby and recent celiac diagnosis. Went for a birthday. The music was blaring very loudly it was too loud for a baby, even the adults were complaining. The waitress assured they can do a celiac friendly meal saying she was celiac herself. I was a bit skeptical because it is primarily a pasta restaurant. I Ordered grilled chicken with risotto. When the meal came there was pasta pieces in the risotto. So definitely cross contamination in the kitchen. I cant justify giving a bad score because this was one of my favorite places to eat. Its unfortunate I wont be able to enjoy it going forward. Dietary restrictions: Celiac - Definitely cross contamination in kitchen. Not celiac friendly despite offering celiac friendly food
Giovanni s had been my favourite local restaurant. My family had been eating there for over 30 years. Sometime in 2022-2023 they menu changed to our dismay. We tried once after the menu switch and it just wasn t the same or comparable to what we know and love. The appetizer menu did not change for the better. The servers are sweet but the menu change ruined this establishment for us and many others. We have been disappointed for some time now. Families must not be the patrons this establishment wants coming through the doors anymore. Good luck and we ll wishes to them, from the daughter of past regulars.
Food was ok. The fettuccine was so bland . Not salty enough. Noodles were over cooked and squishy. The only good thing was the meatballs and the bruschetta bread.
The Veal Piccata was flavorful & tender! Service was excellent! Will definitely go back!
My family and I came here as a large group. We were welcomed and had the best service. Food was plentiful and delicious. Definitely will be back!
Excellent food, great service, good recommendations (we ordered the Lake Superior fish and tomato olive oil pasta, forgot the names of the meals since we were so focused on the food) We were super famished for a real meal after not eating a proper meal during 8h road trip and Giovannis definitely exceeded expectations, no meal hit the spot as well as this one did. Food disappeared in like <10 min. Thank you so much Giovannis!
It was a nice place to dine with family and friends.
Awesome food and a great waitress!!!!
Great place for lunch and Elvis is often in the building
Had a great dinner, delicious food, and staff. Still had the odd white person looking at me like it was the first time they had seen a person of colour, and overall the staff was welcoming and attentive! Also great at explaining ingredients to a vegetarian friend that was in our group.
We had Giovannis cater our Stag and Doe this past weekend and it was a great experience. The food was great and management was extremely responsive and flexible to help the event run smoothly. We would highly recommend their catering service.
Great restaurant, with superb service and food that is simply quite awesome!
I ordered three dishes and they were brought out at the same time. Of course my food got cold.
A momentous night out with my parents and sister! Our waitress Chloe was fantastic- super friendly , not afraid to small talk and a great sense of humour. We had 2 rib n shrimp n pasta specials which were great. Shrimp were fire and the ribs moist and saucy, just the way we likeem. My sister had the osso bucco n risotto. The osso bucco was amazing, moist n tender and ridiculously flavourful. The risotto was generous but a little too much salt for our liking. I had the seafood linguini with ricotta. The seafood was cooked to perfection, but the sauce was lacking something and thus a little bland, but the dish was good. It was the first time I tried this dish, as with the osso bucco. Of course I will be back again. Atmosphere is always great, as is the personal service and the food was excellent. We will be back again!
When you spend. $140+ on food for 4 people you would expect good or at least decent food. Not the case here. My wife and I ordered takeout for us and her parents. I m not going into details but it wasn t good at all. Sauces tasted very similar to a certain jarred sauce. We ate in last time and it was good this take out was horrible. We won t be back after this. Shame on you for serving us this stuff.
Salad on a plate??
Great meals every time we go. Staff is always friendly. Food is always amazing.
Hard to find good Italian food in Mid Michigan. I guess we had to go to Canada to find some! Great food and the service was top notch!!
The food left a lot to be desired. The pizza was more of a sauce-less flatbread. It lacked flavor and the bread was extraordinarily over-floured on the bottom and got everywhere. The service was exceptionally slow but the waitress was really nice. The pasta was fine, very aldente which I personally like, but the overall taste was similar to hamburger helper, except supremely expensive. I LOVE Italian food and am Italian and this was not at the level. But again the waitress was very kind and attentive even if service was desperately slow.
Makes me think of nonna!
We held a rather large family gathering (22 people) at Giovannis restaurant last week! The food was was exceptional, and the SERVICE - WOW!!! Melia, our server, was the without a doubt, the best server I have EVER had. She was engaging, happy, and super helpful with her menu suggestions. If youre ever in the Soo, you must stop in and enjoy the food, and revel in the best service youve ever had. Kid-friendliness: The kids loved it!
Love this place. Come every time were in The Sault. Sally is our favourite server and so happy and swift.
Great food, beef short rib is amazing.
I was not impressed with the time that we had to wait for our meals. Hour for my meal and my husband did not receive his until everyone at the table was finished .. we had a group of about 20 people. No excuse
I had Lasagna for supper, it was a large portion, it was very good, i also had a caesar salad which was tasty, there was 7 us at the table, and there was no complaints. Everyone was satisfied with their meals. Service was very good.
MMM,MMM GOOD. Well do it again next week;-)
Eating out is getting expensive but we have the option to stay home.
My brother and sister in-law came to visit from hamilton and we brought them to our favorite restaurant, we come at least 3 times a month always been satisfied, but this time not so much my brothers veal chop was so tough he didnt eat it the chicken parm was dried out brought a lot home only to throw out the bill for the 4 was over 250oo, disappointing.
Dont order the lasagna.
Beautiful restaurant. Our waiter did a wonderful job. But it was certainly very expensive and not anything amazing for the price. Even the childrens menu was very limited with only a couple options. And buying a child an adult entree would be ridiculously priced. One of the choices on the childrens menu is penne with butter. That is it. I cant believe the price they ask for that. You could make that at home for like $1. So a total ripoff if youre bringing kids. They had a nice selection of options for pasta.
We make GIOVANNIS an annual stop when we go on our fishing trip to White Fish Falls. They have the BEST LASAGNA on the planet! Megan, our server, took wonderful care of our large group and the dining experience was fabulous!! Thanks again to all who make GIOVANNIS such a great place to dine! Bill and Lynette Ludwig Sylvania OH
Rudy is dynamite. Ask for him to serve.
Ate here and was less than impressed! My pasta sauce tasted like Ragu! The prices were outrageous and atmosphere was less than ideal.
Amazing pasta at a good cost relative to its price:portion, a family of 4, assuming they don t eat much or wants a lighter portion could eat 2 pastas between the 4 with bread. W ah pasta
Awesome authentic Italian dining. Great server as well. Highly recommend Food
Amazing food.
Best Italian food
We ordered garden, ceased and beet salad with grilled shrimp. They were good, fresh, and shrimp were juicy. Fettuccine Alfredo, angel hair Tutto Mare and wild mushroom risotto. Whenever I go to a new place I always want to eat from local restaurants and Giovanni gave me a great start to my first trip to Sault Ste. Marie. Great restaurant. Lastly, our server helped us select our dishes, responded to our questions well and provided excellent service. Her first name initial is S (not mentioning name due to privacy)
This place was recommended to us to try out well driving through, Sault Saint Marie. We went there and were told you have to make reservations. We didnt have any, but they didnt turn us away. They fitted us in. The food was amazing, staff was excellent, and our server was awesome. This is a must place to experience. Definitely will be going back.
Ordered what was supposed to be a special, Birthday dinner for my moms 80th. The lasagna was rubbery and not at all what the quality usually is. Definitely not their best work unfortunately. It sure wasnt worth the $57 including delivery hat it cost. Very disappointing. Im guessing they dont read the reviews or they might have reached out.
fantastic place for dinner...had the taste of italy... its awesome...come hungry...portion size is huge....beat place for Italian food i kbow.
Great place to dining
Good Italian food. Great service and ambiance.
We both has salad which was just mainly lettuce and maybe 2 pieces of tiny cucumber and a piece of tomato or 2. Plain oil and viniger dressing. Ordered a brussetta bread as an appitizer that was so garlicky we couldnt even eat it. Hubby had spaghetti and meatballs. He got 2 small meatballs with over cooked gooey pasta with a plain watered down tasteless tomato sauce. I got the veal parm with penne which was also gooey and mushy. The veal was soggy from the sauce because it was like they didnt even drain the pasta just put it on the plate from the pot of water. The water on our plate was ridiculous. With the tip our bill was $140. Wait staff was wonderful but the food was terrible. The next night at home we still wanted pasta so hubby cooked spaghetti and put a can of Bravo sauce on it and it was 100 times better than what we were served at Giovannis. We were offered a doggy bag but we lied and said we were traveling so we didnt have to take it home. Our inside joke was that our dogs wouldnt eat it either. What a waste of money. We didnt even eat a quarter of our meal other than the salad. Parking: Lots
Toss up....loved lunch but not so much dinner (food)
Absolutely amazing meal in an authentic Italian restaurant! Booked a reservation and were completely impressed with the service and food. Highly recommend to anyone passing through Sault Ste Marie!
The perfect dining experience right from the moment you step through the door until you are finished your meal. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and they have the perfect selections of wine. The food is by far truly authentic and absolutely delicious. Definitely a must stop location while in Sault Ste. Marie. Our server Rudy couldnt have been more perfect, he had a great sense of humor and was very genuine and fabulous.
Finally a restaurant which offers a freshwater fish (Pike) on the menu. I visited 4 of the 5 big lakes and the restaurants I stopped at offered no fish or atlantic fish. (example: Cod). Plus in this restaurant, the house wine is literally their house wine. We enjoyed our meal and the wine. Without forgetting the service and the reasonable price.
Its a reasonably-priced restaurant with a high-priced taste and atmosphere. It has also been around for decades. I highly recommend coming here for Italian dining.
Excellent food and service. Would highly recommend
Lunch menu is fantastic, lite and just enough till the 5 to 8 meal
Long delay for dinner, high price.
The food was delicious, and the portions are a good size. The waitress was great and the service was really good. Id recommend this place if you want authentic Italian food.
Good food, lots of options on the menu.
Great food and awesome service Good portions for the price We will be back for sure
Delicious
No longer living in Sault Ste Marie and living in the Italian food desert known as Kitchener-waterloo, I always make a point of eating at Giovannis when Im in the Sault for a visit. Not much has changed at Giovannis in the 34 years Ive been going there, which is great. I did notice deep fried ravioli dropped off the menu, which was a small disappointment, but was relieved to hear that they could still make it, when I asked. My party had the veal piccata, tour of Italy and Chicken Roma. Everyone was thrilled with their meal. Service from Larry was amazing, as always.
Ordered take out The risotto. Amazing. Large portion. Just do it. Food : 5/5
The place has a nice atmosphere, really good food and friendly staff. Our server, Rudy, was really courteous, helpful, and made our dinner experience even better with his personality.
Dietary restrictions: Some gluten free substitutions Food
Yummmmm
One of the best family owned restaurants in the area. Great food, friendly employees, convenient location.
Great time.
The best veal parmaga and pasta. Highly recommended Giovannis. I live in Toronto but I am from the Sault. I make a point of going here when I visit.
Everything is amazing and perfect but except the host is rude just for 7:23 pm we ask for inside to seat but he said that is close already. Patron sometime needs comfortable to seat not in the hallway people passing frequently. We understand if there is no available table.
Five Star
What a great dining experience. The food was superb
My partner, Fabienne, and I visited Sault Ste. Marie for the first time on Thursday evening for a short trip to see the fall colours. While staying at the Fairfield Inn, the front desk staff suggested we go to Giovannis s for dinner. We went there on Friday evening, after returning from the stunning Agawa Canyon train ride and weee famished. To our dismay, we were initially informed that they had no more tables available. After Fabienne pleaded with the hostess, she was able to arrange a table for us. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. From the excellent front of house and serving staff, to the exquisite food, our experience was without comparison. We enjoyed it so much, we went back on Saturday, for our final dinner in Sault Ste. Marie! Our second experience there was as wonderful as the first. I would highly recommend visiting Giovanni s when you visit Sault Ste. Marie.
Great staff and excellent food.
Food was amazing but that wasnt the best part. Our waitresss name was Chloe and she was fantastic, Ive never had a dining experience quite as fun as Chloe executed. She was full of life and very attentive to our needs! What an awesome and valuable employee.
Had the beef stew and ceasar salad, both starter size, and portions were plenty large enough. Stew was flavourful, beef was tender. Salad extremely fresh - hard to find in my experience. Fantastic meal!
Food was amazing and service was excellent!!
Best restaurant experience in decades this place and owner are absolutely wonderful above and beyond service at its best!!
Food reasonable an very good
We arrived at 7.30pm & were greeted by our server, nice man. Within 60 minutes, we had drink, starter, main, dessert, coffee & on the way home. Within seconds of ordering food/drink, it was on the table. It was all too rushed & really how can fresh food be cooked sooooo quick! Very sorry to say but not one of the better meal experiences I have had
Most likely the best food in the soo. Veal chop and anything event you may need. Classy Michelle will take care of you. The young bucks have come in. Beautiful atmosphere!!
Beautiful setting. Wonderful food.
Delicious Italian food. Great choice for family gatherings with good food, beverages and atmosphere!
Amazing food
Very pleased to have found this restaurant in our travels. Great atmosphere, wonderful service from Chloe, and delicious food.
Typical northern italian food. Portions are generous and chicken was well seasoned and juicy.
This place was amazing, from the server to the Bloody Caesar to the food. I highly recommend this Italian restaurant and our server. Rudy was super professional and friendly. I started with the Bloody Caesar, which beats any bloody mary Ive had. For my appetizer, I had the escargot, which is the best Ive had yet. For my entrée I had the special, which was chicken breast with a wine sauce reduction topped with peppers and prosciutto. Well definitely be eating here again in the future. Wheelchair accessibility: Theres a ramp leading into the restaurant, and the doors have the automatic handicap buttons.
Amazing quality food and friendly staff.
Celebrated a family birthday here. Great menu, good Italian pasta, classy but not snotty atmosphere. Lol. Staff were great and food was hot when served. Prices reasonable. Would definitely return.

I came here with my family to celebrate Thanksgiving and we had an absolutely wonderful experience. Our server, Rudy, did a phenomenal job. The food was amazing... I had a pesto pasta dish with chicken and the chicken was easily the best I have ever had. 11/10 would recommend
Ive been to so many Restaurants across Canada as I was travelling from Toronto to BC and I had stopped into your establishment and coming from a German and Italian Household, brings back memories, just a wonderful place and the food was perfect, I had the Veal on a Bun.... OMG.. next time I am in town I will come back again... and take another on the road with me. If only I had more time to sit down.... Great staff, very friendly.
