Hard Wok Cafe in Sault Ste. Marie

The food wasnt so bad. They do not have much of a menu though, there is no General Tso chicken in all of sault ste marie. This place does not let you substitute, not even pork fried rice, instead of chicken. All their meals are just chicken based. I really, really disliked that they wouldnt give me pork fried rice. The price is kinda high for how low quality of food. And im pretty sure there is MSG in the food, because I swelled up after eating. Coming from a town that has competetive restaurants, I would not recommend this restaurant. The location is also bad, just going there for a pickup, I had to deal with an altrication in the parking lot. Parking is behind the building in the west end. Vegetarian options: Yes, they are chinese restaurant. They have lots of vegetables. Dietary restrictions: If you have dietary restrictions, you probably shouldnt eat here, but let them know. Parking: They have spots around the back of the building. Its in the west end though, do not interact with anyone. Kid-friendliness: They have some seating options for children. Wheelchair accessibility: Yes, it is handi-accessible.

Dont waste your time or money here.

We picked up a big order for Mother s Day. Ordering food is a treat for us that we don t do often. Was looking forward to pineapple chicken and it was very disappointing. The batter on the chicken was not good and It did not even taste like chicken, the sauce was just the red sauce with chunks of pineapple in it. Also ordered chicken Lo mein that was very flavourless. Over $100 for three people and most of it went in the trash. Disappointed.

The food has not improved. The breading is still air pocket filled producing large amounts of gas and the sauce doesnt contain key ingredients like molasses, brown sugar and other critical nutrients. Might as well suck on a hot air balloon.

Food was great but they cut back on their portion size drastically, not half the size they used to be, not worth the amount we paid. Very disappointing!

Absolutely terrible customer service. So rude on the phone. No debit at the door. Called 5 mins after their opening time at 4pm and they told me that delivery would take until at least 8pm

I ve been eating hard wok since I was a little little girl , before I moved here , hard wok was our first stop ( next to blue boy which is gone now ) they haven t changed their recipes a bit - although they are cutting down on the chicken in the chin balls a WEEEEEEEEE bit

food is good but defiently over priced

We ordered delivery for the first time in at least a decade from Hard Wok. It has gone downhill compared to how it was twenty years ago. It was obvious the cooking oil was old, our rice was dry crunchy.. Everything just felt sloppy and low quality. Cannot recommend.

Both my husband and I had similar experiences with rice. Almost called ambulance as we were choking. Never again. Parking: Fine

Ordered 4-5 beef/chicken dishes and I could count the pieces of meat in all of them on one hand. Basically just ended up with bowls and bowls of vegetables and dry rice.

We love that the substitute the soup with something else. This is definitely our go-to place now for Chinese food. The wait isnt long and the food is always fresh!!!

I wasted $33. So disappointed in the customer service, the portion size and lack of sauce on everything. I thought maybe it was an oversight the last time I ordered but its worse this time. I wont be ordering from what was my favorite restaurant ever again.

Honestly for classic Canadian Chinese cuisine its very good. Not too expensive either. Our family of 4 can eat for about $40.

Ordered vegetarian sweet and sour with rice. Got broccoli and greasy noodles in soy sauce with sweet and sour sauce and rice on the side. Also ordered lemon chicken and got greasy fried, stodgy chicken and pineapple. Cost $49 and ended up in the bin. Worst Chinese take away we ve ever had!

Have yet to try there food... Called once at 7:30 closing time is 8 was cutting bit short I guess. Another time was about 7:15 not even and said wasnt taking anymore orders ??? Worst Chinese Ive had in my life. Minute rice with a couple peas and onion with a dab of soy sauce. Chowmein noodles for Lo Mien, they asked to see if I wanted my order spicy so I said fine thinking they have a housemate hot sauce it was Sriracha noodles.. $75 for 3 things and there wasnt even soy sauce I the bag.

This is our favorite Chinese food restaurant in the Soo. Their food is hot, tasty, and fresh. The employees are kind and helpful. The reason I am giving them 4 stars instead of 5 is for one reason.. I hate hate hate that their card reader asks for a tip. I am against tipping culture. Employers need to pay their employees a living wage, its not the customers job to subsidize low wages.

The worst. I could write a lot about how truly awful our meals were, but I already wasted my money here, I don t want to also waste my time recalling just how lacking in taste their food is. Don t waste your money and time, and if you do, you can t blame me for not warning you.

They had good food until I went there and watched all the workers prepare food with no gloves in site not even one worker had gloves on gross especially during a pandemic not impressed.

I wish their hours were better. They do close early. Generally 9 pm.

Website says 8pm on Friday. Twice now Ive called at 6:45 and had someone answer to tell me they were closed. If you are too busy to take an more orders to ensure you get at reasonable time I empathize. But then put that on the website. NO ORDERS PAST X TIME. Completely understandable request that a reasonable customer would understand. To post a closing time and tell me you are closed an hour and fifteen minutes beforehand makes a customer feel lied to and unimportant. In reality this review would be a 4 or 5 as the food is delicious and plentiful. One small change makes a huge impact folks either for the good or the bad.

Ordered sesame ginger chicken. Perhaps the worst Chinese dish I have ever had. Chicken was chewy and floating in an unidentifiable red sauce. The most sauce I have ever seen on a dish... more like a soup. The flavor was completely absent. Red food coloring goop with big chunks of ginger. No sweetness, no tang, no spice, and definitely no sesame. Worse than generic Chinese cherry sauce you might buy at the grocery store.

Food Fresh ,but we really believe our Sesame Chicken was hot, not mild. I couldnt eat it after 1 bit ,but my bf. Could. I was looking forward to that. Had it many times and wasnt spicey. Other then that Stuff was friendly and fast.

Today I bought $120 worth of takeout from this establishment. I got a variety of dishes to try because this was my first time ordering from here. I am very disappointed the noodles were over cooked and plain, the beef and broccoli was more like broccoli with beef sauce, the chicken fried rice even had a strange smell that reminded me of raw hamburger. I will not be returning to this establishment. Quality of food was not good at all.

Very salty. Overcooked. It was like every item was cooked earlier and reheated. Chicken balls are just store bought. Fried rice was overcooked and hard.

BEST crab wontons I have ever had! I moved away and travel a lot, yet still have not found any that compete. Most are too cream cheesy for me. I know the prices make this place seem expensive but the amount of food you get is bountiful. The crab wontons are about 2x bigger than most and the combos have enough food to feed 2-3 people (or get 2-3 meals out of it). I recommend the hard wok or veggie combo. I make it a point to eat there whenever I m in town.

Awful, awful food. By far the worst Chinese food I ve ever had in my life. It was bland, greasy, and overall quite gross. $35 for two dishes, which I thought was high at first, and then when I tasted it I was very dissatisfied. Also asked for ID upon pick up, which I thought was very strange. Overall, go somewhere else!

My review is not based on the food, but the customer service... Until a few hours ago I was a delivery driver, and delivered food from this place to a customers home. I overcharged the customer by 8 dollars by mistake. (Working three jobs I get tired and it was likely my fault, or the receipt was not legible.) Upon returning to do a second delivery, I was treated very badly about the situation despite admitting I was probably at fault. I returned to the customers house to reimburse them the amount I overcharged and then returned to home base to quit my job. The people who deliver your food do make mistakes like everyone else.....we usually deliver because we work more than one job...in my case three, with a disabled child to support. The crusty old lady who works here needs to be a little more pleasant with people.

My fav Chinese food in town! A little pricey but well worth it! Ive never had a bad experience, order is always right, food is always delicious and hot! Staff is always friendly and polite :)

The worst Chinese food Ive every had! The pineapple chicken was soggy pieces of deep fried chicken covered in sweet and sour sauce. The fried rice was overcooked and had a burnt taste. Fifty dollars for a meal we couldnt eat and went into the trash!
