If you’re craving congee or rice rolls, this place hits the spot. It also won’t hit your wallet, as the value you get is very generous. Not many places like this still exist where you can get cheap eats that’s both fulfilling and tasty. Don’t let the atmosphere be a deterrent and be prepare to share a table or sit close to other customers.
The rice rolls don’t have many folds, and the texture is nicely balanced—chewy but not too firm. The soy sauce has a pleasant sweetness without being overly sugary. While I personally prefer a softer, stickier rice roll, this one was still enjoyable. The portion of beef is generous, though some pieces were a bit large and thick, with one not fully cooked.
This used to be our go-to place for Cantonese food - generally tasty and quite authentic. Our favourite dish was the deep fried squid tentacles. This past week when we revisited, the dish was simply atrocious...Not only was it not deep fried, it tasted bland and mushy, almost as if it was steamed! The portion was also exceptionally small - shrinkflation at its best.. We'll be looking elsewhere for Cantonese food in the future.
Local neighborhood hole in the wall place. Needed a quick meal, it was either this or Taco Bell. Was not impressed when i entered, certainly a place you wouldn't take a date or a secret lover, yeah I said it. However, my red flag gut intuition slowly began to soften when perusing their menus, a separate page for congee, separate page for noodles, separate page for rice rolls and a separate page for snacks. Now that's what I'm talking about. This is where people come for serious no nonsense eating. No fusion, no signature dishes, just straight up good basic Chinese comfort food It hit me when I out of the corner of my eye I saw pork intestine noodles on the noodle menu. Whaaaat, no way, no restaurant would dare serve this dish unless their customer base demanded it. People who like intestines described the taste as gamey barnyard funk, let's get real, it's poop, don't want it. Don't wanna even try. I got excited, any restaurant serving this dish must know what they are doing. I ordered the congee with century egg & pork, fried dough sticks and beef brisket dried noodles The beef brisket was tender with fat and attached membrane, beware, it is just not pure beef brisket, this type of brisket is not everyone's cup of tea. The noodles were firm and chewy The fried dough sticks were overcooked, too crispy and oily. Dipping them in the congee softened them up. The congee arrived very hot with creamy century egg and tender pork. It was so tasty I have to admit, their dishes were very authentic and a representation of what great cooking skills can accomplish with Chinese ingredients (including intestines). It's a shame these hole in the wall places are not well known but then the neighborhoods probably want it they way. I walked away very impressed
Yummy Cantonese Restaurant is always busy no matter what time of the day it is. They partnered with Fantuan Food Delivery for those who prefer to have their order delivered to them. They close early, so better call them to confirm their opening hours. Beef Brisket noodles soup. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Abalone and chicken congee. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Shrimps and chives rice noodle roll. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ It’s a full service eatery. The Waitress who took our order was fluent in English. The food came out rather quickly. It’s a small cozy eatery, but hard to maneuver when using a walker. The staff are friendly. Paid in cash. Noticed a new eatery opened right next door. February 1st, 2024 was the opening day. The gentleman told us as we walked by on our way to our parked car.
The food: The beef brisket noodle soup broth was flavorful and tasty, and the noodles were good as well but the beef brisket was not that good in comparison. The beef brisket has a tinge of cinnamon which I did not enjoy, as the beef brisket I usually eat does not taste like this. This cantonese food was alright, but I would not use yummy as the defining word for this restaurant. I would retitle this restaurant as Alright Cantonese Restaurant. The tea: Complimentary hot tea was tasteless and lackluster. It tasted like hot water with a hint of nothing. The chili oil: The chili oil enlightened me and brought joy to our otherwise bland meal. This will only apply to the chili oil fanatics like me, though, so take this review of chili oil with a grain of salt. The chili oil was flavorful and brightened up the other flavors in the food, which caused me to give this restaurant 3 stars instead of 2. The chili oil was splendid and enriched with flavor. The service: The restaurant itself was full of people but probably not because the food is good, but because there are not many options for Cantonese food around here. The waiters were okay, but you must write down your order yourself. The food came out at a relatively okay pace, but three dishes that we ordered in the beginning did not arrive until almost 45 minutes later, after we finished the other dishes. The ambience: The interior was alright, and the walls have a nice design, but only on one wall is there a design. Restroom: The restroom exists, which is good. There was a small fly in the toilet that instilled fear in me as I released my bodily fluid into the porcelain bowl, but I finished my business quickly and then everything was alright. Conclusion: I would not return to this restaurant. Everything was okay, but there are definitely better Cantonese restaurants out there that I would travel farther to eat at rather than eat here. I give this restaurant 3 stars, but my mother who did not receive her food until 45 minutes after we finished our food would like to give this restaurant 1 star. As we pulled out of the parking lot, a sign caught my eye: a restaurant called Perfect Chinese Restaurant. Next time, I will travel there for a meal instead, as I may not be bamboozled and fooled by their restaurant name as I was dining at Yummy Cantonese Restaurant.
Great flavor at low price :) me and my gf drove 50 km to come here for their dishes, and we are not disappointed. Be mindful that they close early, but if you manage to give a call to put in the order, they can get it ready for you even 30 mins after they close.
August 2023 Edit: Yummy Cantonese Restaurant is still the superior rice roll and congee restaurant in the area. The congee maintains its consistency and doesn't turn into a watery mess throughout the meal. The rice rolls have a great chewy texture without an excess of wheat starch. The portions are good. Expect a line for dine in over the weekend. Highly recommend pre-ordering on the phone for take out. Staff are very quick but occasionally you'll see them try to let their regulars cut the line. ******* I tried the shrimp rice roll, scallop/pork/chive rice roll, and beef brisket rice noodle rolls. All of them were really good, fresh and good value. Their rice noodles have a good texture, and better than the popular Yin Ji Chang Fen. The beef brisket noodle rolls was a huge portion and the beef was perfectly good. Take out is fast and easy. I called to make my order and it was ready in ~10 minutes.
They had no heat. We were freezing our butts off and wearing winter jackets while eating.
good
Vegetarian options: Yes Food
Very good service and nice food.
As traditional as it should be.
The food is not good, they are not Cantonese. The service is unprofessional. Do not waste money
Cash only. Expect to pay more for online or phone in takeout orders. Will charge for takeout packaging.
The place is small and parking space is hard to find, but the taste is good. Parking: It is difficult to find a parking space in the parking lot.
Quality congee lunch
Food was super bland and kinda mushy in a way. The peanuts also were barely cooked.
Fully loaded with MSG. You have to choose between health risk and taste. I have asked them. They have added msg even in their sauces on the table to ensure all food taste right.
CAUTION for women: watch out this mandarin pevert male. He aimed for women especially one woman there eating, constantly looking at the woman from body to feet. Then removed his shoes then moved around like itchy in the chair and touched his thing! Kitchen took dam long time for Teng jai congee. Wont go there !!!
Such a great small restaurant! Highly recommended Great people and great food
Delicious and not so expensive Congee.
Laoxiguan yyds
Delicious go to place for breakfast congee and rice noodle rolls Parking: Parking fills up quickly during peak hours but usually can find a spot! Food : 5/5 |
Dont eat here. The noodles are second-hand goods from the supermarket, the brisket is chewing gum, the porridge is MSG soup, and the price is hotel price. Health Inspector should come to check it.
Very friendly people
very tasty
Tasty food, good portions, reasonable prices.
Classic and traditional Cantonese food. CASH ONLY Its an old store that has been open for many years. The taste is as good as ever, the portions are sufficient, and overall its good. Its a pity that we can only accept cash
Its very good.
Love the beef congee, the rice rolls are really nice as well
Very good congee had the preserved eggs congee with sweet dough fritters , vegetables , bbq pork rice rolls , deep fried squid !!!!!!
Food is very good love their congee and rice noodle roll lots of options
Good congee....
Food is mediocre. Restaurant is not very clean. They sent us to a table right next to the toilet door. No service for the whole time, but shamelessly force us to add tips when I paid.
perfect, affordable price and great quality
Congee has nice aroma, gonna try the fish belly and bones congee next time with the s&p salmon head. Rice noodle rolls were slippery and soft. Dough stick was crispy on the outside and soft and pillowy on the inside. It s typical Cantonese quick bite, where the waiters won t bother you ~ Vegetarian options: There s actually quite a few vegetarian options, but they re not really highlighted, but you can get stuff like snow pea leaves rice noodle roll Parking: The parking lot is just one strip along plaza, but I didn t have a hard time finding a spot
Busy restaurant with good vibes and delicous food for brunch. Love it.
Im back!!! This place continues NOT to disappoint! Ordered different dishes and they all tasted great.
Satisfied with the product, generally good. There is still room for improvement in material selection. The price is reasonable.
D porridge is delicious and chewy, the beef ribs are so crispy, and the scallop rice rolls are so smooth. It was full at noon on New Years Eve, and the waiters worked non-stop. If they make Chinese desserts, they are top notch.
Ong some of the worst food Ive ever eaten in my life. Was really flavourless and tasted super off. The noodles were also severely overcooked and everything was just sort of clumped together. Would never go back again.
Always queue! But it s super worth it. I personally think it s the most delicious rice rolls and porridge at the most affordable prices.
Fish belly congee contains bones but is delicious.
Great congee and pig intestines noodles! Price was very reasonable. Small busy place, this is one of those that you eat and run, not a place to hang out with friends and chat. Parking may be an issue during busy hours, very congested and tight.
Kind of pricey for congee but you will get great food
Great won ton noodle soup. Just get that.
I purposely drove half an hour to Lao Xiguan to eat. I didn t expect the first experience to be so bad. There were bugs in the meal but they didn t take any action. I ordered a shrimp and beef sausage (beef is very unpleasant and bitter), Green vegetable noodles in soup (as soon as it was served, I saw five or six small black bugs floating on it, and I didn t think so at first) I specifically asked someone else to make sure. After telling the waiter, she took the meal away directly. Ten minutes later, she came over and asked me, do you still want this noodle? If you want it, I will order it again. If you don t need it, cancel it. To be honest. There was no apology for the bugs in the meal...) However, I heard the cashier tell the chef that there were bugs when serving the food, but the chef insisted on letting them serve the food. I ordered two drinks, but they still didn t arrive until we paid. I understand that you are busy, so I won t say more about this. I don t mean to criticize your store, this is my experience today. People present also know that we showed our emotions to the front desk when paying the bill, and we didn t say sorry until we were angry... (If you saw it at that time We complained about bugs. It was solved immediately so we wouldn t be so angry...) hope to improve
Love it
Ordered a bunch of takeout and there were MULTIPLE fruit flies in the food. I counted 6 and I stopped counting after that, it was gross
Good tasting congee thats not too starchy or watery. Friendly staff. Rice noodles are also good.
recommend!
One of the best rice noodles that I have ever had. Every item from the menu is a solid 8-10 out of 10. They are packed with customers, keeping the price low in this hyperinflation era, providing high quality food, honestly, I am not expecting customer service at this price.
Their hedgehog noodles are so delicious, it feels like you are licking your own beard
You can order any dish from them without disappointment but amazement. They have the best and most authentic rice noodle rolls in the city. Congees are yummy too with fresh ingredients. Fried squid is great too. The price is reasonable as their dishes have good portions too. The staff are friendly and nice.
The most delicious Changfen in Scarborough
The pork and beef rice rolls taste average, the bottom of Jidi porridge is very watery, the food is served very slowly, the shop is small and the price is on the expensive side.
Went here to eat today. The pork liver porridge was very rubbish. When the porridge was brought out, there was blood on it. It was disgusting. Just think about the hygiene of the kitchen.
Loved their rice noodle rolls, congee was tasty too. Beautiful paint works and wallpapers. Staff was nice and professionals. Food
Generous portions but strange texture of the rice noodle rolls and the smell of the brisket. Worst of all, the waiter forces you to pay a certain amount of tips. Never will I visit it again.
Food is mediocre, but good portions. However they force you to pay in cash only even though I saw their pos machine right there. And they demand certain amount of tips. They should know that tips are earned. Will never visit again.
The rice noodles were disappointing. They were too soft and the toppings were everywhere. Sweet soy sauce was watered down and lacked flavour. Lack of noodle selection for their soup noodle dishes. The deep fried dough fritters were delicious! Staff work hard but arent very friendly.
Very good food and great service
I take berberine when I get home. Fortunately, my house has 4 bathrooms. Otherwise, your food wouldn t be enough for several people to grab after eating.
Good and worth with its name. Not a bad choice! Traditional and family friendly.
Fast service! Delicious food!
Yummy food , good service. We have eaten fish & and beef congee . The fish is fresh slices. We come often As nearby in the heart of Scarborough. Food : 4/5 |
Congee is very good. Good quality food. Service is also good.
One of the best restaurants for traditional Cantonese congee and noodles soup. Also, for those who like organs and other delicacies, this restaurant does it well. Love the variety of rice rolls that are made to order. Clean, fast and delicious. Highly recommend and will be back! Its always busy with line up but tables turnover very quick. Its worth the wait! Parking: The spots are a bit tight.
The service attitude is average and the kitchen is messy when serving food.
When I placed the order, I told you not to put coriander in the porridge three or four times. When I took it back and opened it, it was all coriander! I also paid extra for rice rolls and lettuce before, but when I took it back, I couldnt find any vegetables. Can the person who placed the order have a snack?
2nd time here. It s a cozy dining place (looks small but seats quite a number of people). Service is efficient and staff is courteous. Food isn t extraordinary but decent and fast (kinna an alternate go-to after the Wonton Trio place next door is now closed).
The service attitude and hygiene are not good, and the food quality has also declined. Its hard to do it again
They need to learn basic English. It took me 10 mins to explain to them that I want two bowls of congee with preserved eggs and pork, extra preserved eggs and extra pork. They got the order wrong at least 5 times. Second time, I ordered online to save the hassle of doing it in person. I explicitly requested in the comment section to NOT include coriander. Theres coriander in the congee when I opened it. Please pay better attention to your customer needs. Not everyone speaks your dialect or chinese for the matter.
I was eating inside and heard the conversation between the cashier and a delivery boy and a little girl. It really pissed me off. I witnessed everything half an hour ago. When I just came in, I happened to bump into this little delivery girl at the front desk and told her to wait. After 15 minutes, I came back to pick up the takeaway and the little girl went out. After 15 minutes and almost 20 minutes, the little girl came back to pick up her takeout and found that she didnt have her takeout. Then she asked how long it would take and the cashier said it was not better. After more than half an hour, the little girl asked directly. How long will it take? The cashier still said it would take 15 minutes. The little girl was very angry and said that the dining time had arrived. If you had told me it would take an hour at the earliest, I would not have waited. I have been waiting for more than half an hour now and you told me that it was okay. If the checkout counter is not clear, just say loudly, If you can answer it, please dont answer it. If not, I wont tell you. Then the little girl went out very aggrieved. I just wanted to say that I have also delivered takeaways. If your store is busy, don t accept so many platforms. It s been almost an hour since I ate. The little girl hasn t left yet. Everyone is out to work. I really hope your company can improve by letting the little girl wait outside for so long.
Fresh, delicious, quick cooking
Probably one of the best places for congee and rice noodle wraps...
I came here with my friend for a late lunch and this place did not disappoint. Its an old school hong kong style restaurant, the food is flavorful and has a great selection. We ordered chicken and abalone congee, beef with rice noodle, squid, fried dough, and milk tea.
The beef brisket noodles and rice rolls are very delicious. The waiters in the store are very nice and enthusiastic. The business in the store is very good. There are always many people queuing up. I was lucky today. I got a seat immediately after waiting for a while. I m happy
Authentic Cantonese rice rolls. Price were affordable. Good for quick food.
The rice noodle rolls were smooth and went down easily, and it was great value for money.
-rice rolls are great/one of the best -congee is good, I like the salted egg one, sliced fish, and plain pork Food
Boat Congee is great but the HK Milk tea is a little watered down.
My favorite breakfast restaurant
Yummy Cantonese is a staple in our household for good old-fashioned comfort food congee. This place is consistently one of the best congee joints in town and can be counted on to deliver a flavour-packed bowl of hot steamy goodness whenever you need a pick-me-up. At peak times, you will often find yourself needing to queue for a table, and the staff s English comprehension is somewhat limited, so be patient. Unfortunately, some of the non-congee dishes are a bit inconsistent.
Great place for some Cantonese congee, noodles and more. They have more variety than a lot of the other congee franchises. Their deep fried fish skin were crispy and thin. Better than their competitors. I also like how theyre quite generous with their cilantros and toppings for their congees. The pork liver was also very good on the rice roll. I would definitely return for more. Great service. Clean restaurant.
Dined in on the Easter Saturday morning and boy o boy had to wait 45 mins for the to be ready! Restaurant was swamped with SKIP, UberEats, DoorDash orders and just too overwhelmed to handle the dine-in orders.
I ordered pork belly porridge and leek and beef rice rolls. Both are delicious, although I prefer the presentation of the Hong Kong-style rice rolls. The waiter has a good attitude and has a girl-next-door feel. The restroom is very clean. Come again if you have a chance.
Weve there for almost for a hour, but the foods never came.
The food tastes good if it ever arrives to the table. Took over an hour for a bowl of congee
Great food but really bad service. Ordered 2 congee of the same, but they came 20 mins apart, not a missed order because the waitress acknowledged the second one was coming!
Good rice rolls, a bit soft and chewy with a chewy texture. Average fried dough sticks The service is very nice
Rice noodle is very good! Congee is much better than the other congee places. Price is unbeatable!
Bad experience, both custmer service and the food are terrible. Not recommend!
There are two old Cantonese ladies in the store, chattering and running around in a hurry, even touching you when they are anxious! The porridge was good, but the experience was terrible!
Dietary restrictions:
Excellent food, and very fast service. Waitresses are polite. I love this place. I definitely recommend to other people.
They serve nice congee and rice noodles
The taste has changed and it s hard to say a word
Price was reasonable and the portions were big in the inflation period. Our friend said the taste was authentic.
I got the Rice rolls with shrimp and chives and a a huge bowl of Congee with fish fillets. Both the items were delicious, other times on the menu look interesting as well, friendly staff!
The rice rolls were not provided with sauce and the wrong meal was delivered... The fish skin was suffocated and could not be chewed when it was delivered home, and the takeout box was not even opened.
Best rice noodle roll place in town.
A delicious breakfast restaurant, worth recommending!
Nice congee
While the food I got tasted good (that s the only reason why I m not giving a 1 star) I had to stand and wait for 20 minutes for them to get my food ready. It seemed like they finished every other order before they got to mine, and I actually went and checked, they did finish every other order before getting to mine.
Only giving this place 2 stars cause their food is decent, but the people at this place have extreme attitude and treat you like your business doesn t matter, and their service is super slow, sat there for 34-40 mins waiting for the kitchen to slap out 2 bowls of congee while my dough sticks came out in the first 5 mins which was rock hard over cooked and cold like a frozen dinner before the congee even came. Would only recommend this place to people who can tolerate waiting longer then normal and accept rude staff and poor service
My go to for congee in Scarborough. I usually go for the sliced fish congee because they use fresh fish over the frozen kind. Good for 4 or less people because they only have one large table.
I tried twice to order salted egg and lean meat porridge, but when I got home, I found out that it was preserved egg and lean meat porridge. The takeout this time was no different, but it was very salty and difficult to eat, and ended up falling into the trash can. I bought salted egg and pork slices porridge again today, but I was very disappointed. The salted eggs have gone bad and smelly. As a patient, I don t want to take it back to exchange it. I am completely disappointed! disappointment! disappointment!
Came on Sunday morning at 11am, place is small for the business theyre getting. We were seated the table in front of the cashier. When waitress brought over water, she accidentally tipped the cup and spilled the hot water on my lap. No apologizes and just a loud sigh as if it was our fault. We ordered 6 dishes, and the cheung fun which theyre supposedly known for was a disappointment. Super under-staffed and rude attitude, the entire dining was very poor. We felt rushed and just packed for take out. Bill came out to $54.xx, we put down $60. Waitress came to collect the money, and said its not enough. We said theres $60. She said tip is not enough. To spare the drama, gave them another $2. Nothing special about the food at this place, and wouldnt come back due to rude customer service.
Fish bone porridge, Xiangxi beef porridge and intestines are delicious
Terrible food and service.
Chinese congee place
I have been to many breakfast rice roll porridge restaurants, and only this one has the best porridge. His porridge is soft and glutinous, unlike other porridge restaurants that are watery, and it tastes great. For rice rolls, barbecued pork sausage is recommended. Here is a tip on how to make the sauce when eating rice rolls (my wife does it every time). Squeeze two strips of hoisin sauce, add two tablespoons of chili oil, and mix well. You ll know it s delicious once you try it (if you can t eat spicy food, you can reduce the amount appropriately)
Awesome congee and plain rice rolls.
Always good
Amazing congee and rice noodle rolls, very good portions for price, will be a returning customer, 10/10
The porridge and rice rolls are open very early!
Variety of rice rolls :)
bad bad bad, that is all I can say!!! Pricey and poor quality
This is one of the best places to get cheung fun in the area for a good price. The menu has a variety of options, all which are great as well. If you order from here, try the dough sticks which are freshly fried, their congee, beef brisket, and anything with rice noodles.
Their shrimp/beef cheung fun is so silky soft
Super friendly staffs and very good taste genuine taste! Highly recommend the Beef Intestines and Ji Di Porridge! Pork Chest Fun with Pork Belly Sauce is super good too!
Great congee that are boiled individually per order, so be patient as it takes a few minutes longer to cook. Less MSG than other congee places in the GTA. Their dough stick and Chinese doughnut are pretty good as well. Their rice noodle roll are Canton styled and not HK dim sum styled.
Best place for rice noodles! Good prices and the rice noodles are made fresh so they re always super smooth :) Add an egg for the extra flavour. Other dishes are okay. Cash only.
Super delicious super tasty super
The food is divine , cant bare the customer service , I went to buy take out , with 3 waitress keep talking with each other , no one acknowledged me when I walked , when the food was ready , one waitress look over my food and just left and keep talking , I waited a while, signal the waitress took my order that my food was ready , then she packed the food while keep talking to the other two, then handed over my order when she was back facing me , while I was walking to excit door , they were saying whose car was parking outside so long , that was my family waiting for me in car ..... if the food was attracted people here, please change your waitress
[CASH ONLY]Waited for about half hour before sit down but the food was served pretty quick. The pig feet was treated very clean and deliciously cooked. The egg changfen ( ) was pretty awesome
Congee is my first choice when I come here!! Very yummy!!
I liked this place. It has friendly staff, good food and fair prices. The rice noodles are very thin and makes for a great texture.
Comfort food
congee with fish slices excellent in taste, quality and price.
Best rice rolls in Toronto
Good varieties of steam rice rolls
The rice rolls and congee surprised me. I did not expect to them to be that delicious and even authentic in the same package. The rice rolls are made in an uncommon style called Chencun ( ), it has a lot of wrinkles and generally more chewier than the usual ones, which makes the texture amazing. The seafood congee is packed with flavour and more seafood than I expected for the price I am paying. Definitely will visit again when the pandemic is over! Disclaimer: I have only ordered through Uber Eats because of COVID-19 so I can only attest for the taste, not the location or the service.
Good place for Quick bites. Reasonable price and good service.
The best porridge in Toronto. delicious
pretty pretty good
Rice noodle roll is tender enough, but soy sauce is not tasty, no sesame and hoi sin sauce provided. Congee is good.
Jacky let me go without paying. Trust is hard to come by. Wonton noodles are pretty good.
Went to buy takeout, lunch took over 30m to get ready. They seem to prioritize delivery orders over walk-in orders. Consider order ahead if youre getting takeout.
Good food and cheap price
Fresh and delicious, but the clerk is a bit arrogant!
OK
OK
The most delicious rice rolls in Toronto. It s so delicious that I forgot to take a photo. The boss is very generous and the portions are generous. A big bowl of hot porridge is so satisfying in winter! Highly recommended!
I like the food here, it is very taste for me !
Traditional steamed rice noodle rolls... very satisfying fix when you have the craving. Line-up is a little too crazy though when dining-in was still available.
