Went in there for Breakfast for the first time. I had a simple question about what I can order as there is nothing labeled. Within 30 seconds the woman serving me gave me extreme attitude and said "I ALREADY TOLD YOU YOU CANT MIX MEAT with VEG!" as I asked for Saltfish with pumpkin and Bhaji. My question didn't deserved for me to be snapped at like that. I simply asked foe Saltfish on the side which she seem3d surprised. So for 38$ I paid for a regular container of rice pumpkin and bhaji with a side of Saltfish. I didn't care as much for the expense as all the attitude I was getting, even cashing out she looked mad i didn't want the reciept and just stormed back in the kitchen. I'm never coming back here again, there are plenty roti shops in the area that will serve you like a decent human being.
Food was awesome..staff is good and helpful ..got fresh everything .
Worst doubles I had. This place needs a good chef. It was really bad.
So my Bf ordered curried snapper with white rice and extra gravy ( separated ). This is what was served to him. The rice and fish is swimming in LAAAAANG WATA GRAVY and you can only taste turmeric…. The person who served him, said there’s nothing she can do to correct this…. Well here is what we did… After a few bites, it was tossed in the garbage - You don’t feed this to pigs…. Charlie’s Caribbean Cuisine, you have to fix this mess…
Hi there, I wish I didn’t have to provide this rating truly for a small business. The front staff was extremely low energy and short with me. I bought doubles with Chana and it tasted spoiled. Food in the trays looked poor. I don’t recommend. Save your money for elsewhere. The Charles in Sauga is far better.
On Sunday last, my husband bought 2 meals from this establishment (we typically only buy snack items) - beef curry and stewed chicken. The beef curry tasted more like a bland stew and the stewed chicken gave us food poisoning. l am sure it was that dish because 3 persons ate but only 2 had the stew and both of us fell sick that night. Even with the poor taste of the food I might not have written a review, however, because we got sick after eating from here, I decided to let others know. I sincerely hope this was a one-off and that no one else becomes sick.
Mr Jerk was closed so I decided to go next door to Charlie's. I ordered a small curry goat boy was I disappointed with the portion who still serves a small meal in a small carton box that is not even microwaveable anymore the lady at the counter put 6 piece of goat and two of the meat had big bones literally no meat on it and I asked her is that all the meat your putting she says yes the rice was cold overall the whole meal was closed now I know why I always pass by but today I said I will give them a try and of course I was disappointed. My suggestion to anyone who wants to go to Charlie's for a meal DON'T Go stay away from there.Did I mention that it cost me $14.64 . BEWARE YOU ARE WARNED
18.95 PLUS TAX! OXTAIL! SALT! BLAND! NEED PEPPA SAUCE BAD! Honestly this was some of the most mediocre Caribbean food I have had to date. When you are charging a premium price for food, quality should come into play during some part of the eating experience. I would also add that the portion size was 'unsubstantial'. A tiny little box of blandness for more then $20, after taxes. Don't even get me started on the peas and rice!
Came to get Caribbean stuff and it was all in stock. Vegetarian options: Lots of veggie stuff and halal. Food : 5/5 |
If only it was possible to rate this place at zero star. As much as I would love to support a West Indian establishment, I would not recommend this place to anyone. I am always disappointed every time I ve purchased something from this restaurant. The food is terrible and overpriced - small serving of tasteless & stale food at ridiculous prices. Save your money and go somewhere other than here.
Had goat roti, the goat was very tough and chewy, the roti shell was like eating leather and was raw in some spots. Very dissatisfied and disappointed.
This people doesn t know how to make jerk chicken or doesn t know how it taste like, if they want to open an Indian restaurant open an Indian restaurant, don t ruin the brand name. And there was a no garbage bin, so i asked front lady where should I keep my plates but you don t need to act rude. And it s expensive for their cheap food.
good roti highly recommended
Don t go this place.Worst Bad smell
Got a boneless goat roti for $20, way over priced, small portions, not cleaned properly, super chewy. The customer service is absolutely horrible nothing but attitude. Not worth it at all.
Very disappointed with the quality of the food and service. The woman at the cashier was very rude and unprofessional. I asked for the bake and saltfish to be wrapped and told she was too busy.
Disappointed in service and quality of food I would not recommend this business... Parking: Parking was available no issue with parking space.. Would not be going back in the area anytime soon parking does not interested to me..
Horrible taste of food
Had their doubles it was horrid dont buy it ugg waste of money ey
The food has no flavour and they are stingy with the meat and the drink are expired
There are many options to choose from at this location. I thought I would try Charleys. It does not take much to impress me as stale bread heated in a microwave would do me fine. Im plus 45 years of living I have never made an effort to leave a review for good or bad food, I just live with what I get as we all win some and loose some. The jerk and bake chicken was not cooked nor seasoned properly. The rice was not cooked properly. I never throw away food, Im a person that would give the food to animals before throwing it away. This is the first time I had to throw out food. Im very understanding person and Im sure that this was probably just a one time thing as Charleys has been there for a long time in that plaza but as I read the latest reviews from the past 2 years there seems to be a pattern of disappointment from many.
Love shopping here.
Good people. Good price
Fast service, quality products, good meat, no wait, nice staff - will always buy from my community #Caribbean
The fried rice with the fried chicken on top was super delicious!!! Cant wait to get it again. Cashier very friendly and helpful.
Great food. Authentic Guyanese food. Not impressed with the 30 min wait to order or get the food.
Came there to order some food but was denied access to the washroom with no reason at all. Dont know what there issue is with not using the washroom and Had to end up leaving the premises to go use a washrooom else where And Ive been a customer of theres for a long time. But this might be my last time here.
I dont understand the hype on this store. Curry goat and jerk chicken was not good at all. So disappointed.
Blessed place
I went to Charlies November 14th Sunday 2021. I asked them for NO PEPPER in my curry goat. The cashier/ server swore it would have no pepper. Low and behold it was drenched with pepper... instead of fixing this problem when I called, they just denied that it had pepper and hung up. I dont recommend this place to anyone!
Food is gross and awful customer service! Staff are so rude! Their pholourie and doubles were spoiled when I bought it. Their fried rice had a bitter after taste. Went to this place 3 times because I keep thinking the next visit will be better. However, I had very bad experiences all 3 times. I do not recommend this restaurant. Much better Caribbean restaurants elsewhere to have to settle for this one.
I really love this place, the food is great and close to home.
This is a place I liked buying from but the food is no longer fresh and authentic. My family and I are tired of pooping nonstop and eating unauthentic roti. Won t be buying from there anymore. Coming from a St.Lucian woman and Guyanese man!
Very clean restaurant, staff very courteous. Food is just like homemade , I always order food for any occasion I have and everyone enjoy the food especially the bake n salt fish n choka tasty.
Chili chicken from here is absolutely delicious
A unprofessional customer service! I was just here ordered my meal. Cashier puts EVERYTHING into 1 bag and I leave my bag burst right as I exit and all my food pours out and I go back to complain for a replacement sue to negligence on the cashier packing all my items into 1 bag the Manager was no where to be seen as I demanded to speak to them. The cashier quickly calls them and the Manager doesnt even care to hear what happen they quickly dismissed the cashier and said no replacement. I asked where the Manager was that she was so busy the cashier said she is out shopping. I would NEVER give my money and service to this restaurant with poor people skills and customer service. Very quickly to take my money which was $32 and I walked out with nothing and food on the floor outside. What kind of management would let this happen? Allow their customers to leave with not even the item/food they paid for. I wasnt asking for a refund as I was trying to support a business during tough times yet they couldnt do the rightful thing and replace my food. The cashier didnt even tell the Manager SHE packed all my food in 1 bag and it was her mistake! I didnt drop my bag-it all burst and dropped out of my hands. I would never recommend this place to anyone! Manager is too busy to run their own business and lets untrained Staff to have to deal with customers!!! Shameful. Ive taken a photo of this and will be uploading soon
Wonderful Caribbean shop
Chicken fried rice was alright but the chicken chow mien had zero flavor.
Great selection and staff very helpful.
I have been coming to Charlies for years now, quality of food dropped, plus some of the cashiers infront are nice and sometime you go, not so nice, I know Charlie is always Grumpy but I expect your staff to be nice to customer, not treat us like they are the owners and we are dirt, thats what I have been feeling for the past few months. Especially with some of the younger cashiers you have talking to customers.
Always great food. Orders and then picked up.
If you know good Caribbean food and you know overnight and days old food youd know that the reason why they are able to produce a wide variety of dishes so fast its because of this. It was my 3rd and last time at this place. I went there on a monday and the aroma of fresh food was booming. Went there on the Wednesday roti was good although it was refrigerated and heated( I know this because Dhal puri or any roti off a tawa produces crust) mine had none,Thats fine it was delicious. My husband ordered stew chicken and rice and the chicken was fried and dipped in the sauce (Overnight left over fried chicken suspected). Oxtail was sweet..no flavor but it was soft . On the Friday I went there I ordered stew chicken and provision. The first smell of the plate was the smell of tainted meat. My entire plate smelled rotten. I took my fork and tasted and confirmed with my husband that it was indeed bad meat. I took it back and told the cashier. She called the cook. (Unfortunately they dont even know what tainted means). She told me everything was ok if I wanted it heated. Smh. Trying to convince me is tomato paste. Thats not how stew chicken is cooked anyways. The provisions were at leat 2 days old. I can tell because it gets soggy and plantains get brown outside. They sliced onions to make it look fresh, it was no where near fresh. The stew chicken was not fried and dropped in, it was now cooked in the stew. You know whats overnight from whats not. They put fresh meats in the bigger warmers because more is cooked for sale (nightly i suspect) and leftovers from during the day in the smaller warmers because they simply try to sell it out. The rice noodles etc is fresh, not so sure about the jerk. Dear Charleys, before your food kill someone please ensure your staff discard of bad food and not resell it. Make sure they are knowledgeable on what food is made from what. Make sure they know that dasheen bush is the same as calalloo bush! Oh! And when Caribbean food is cooked and seasoned properly, it becomes sweeter overnight, not taste bad and spoiled. You lost 2 customers in the same week you gained them.
Was disappointed in the taste and quality
Good place to shop
Love the breakfast!
Could be better stocked.
Always shop there love the staff n atmosphere
Great veggie food
Very good food!
Lady working here is so rude. Only turns up the act for Brown men; all smiles for someone spending 2.00. My daughter offered to pay for extra chicken she wanted to charge her 8.99. + taxes. No smile; no manners. I sat and watched how she stared my daughter up and down. Hope you don t count on tips . 13 yrs coming here never again!!!!!
Wow!!!! Food was the best West Indian food ive had in years. Very clean environment and the service was quick and friendly. Keep up the good work! Thanks, i will definitely be back!
Its ok. I like to try different places for Caribbean food and some are good and some are bad. Unfortunately for the price and quality of the food personally I wouldnt return.
Best Chicken Roti in Town!
A tradition for hot and delicious West Indian/Caribbean food at reasonable prices. Just a few store fronts over in the same plaza you can get all of your groceries - fresh produce and other West Indian staples.
Bake and salt fish is the best a little oily but so tasty
I got to this place and it has great food! I really love it.. but they changed it up a little from back in the days
Live the pepoer shrimp and fried rice.
Guyanese food good.
Amazing doubles
Great stop
Nice jerk chicken.
I bought two Pumpkin and Shrimp in a Roti.It was amazing. Very tasty made just right.Only thing it was quite expensive. $33.plus for two.
Good bake and fish !!
Good West Indian food at reasonable prices
Great selection of Caribbean food, vegetables, seasonings and snacks.
very very pricey, an average dish will cost you close twenty dollars. my two latest experiences were summed up by the hours in the toilet i spent. not sure what it was but was told by my physician it was food poisoning. The meat was apparently not clean. Will never go back.
Good west Indian food
Great selection
Been going here for years. Good prices and great food.
The food was simply awful. The fired rice was bland and tasteless it tasted as if we were eating just plain boiled rice. The chicken had a smell to it... even the kids refused it. The service lady was nice but she charged us extra on the bill and coincidentally when we visited the grocery store we were mischarged there as well so Im not sure if its something they usually do and people dont quite often notice or even check their bills. Everyone is always in a rush there days that 70% dont even request a receipt.
The authentic Caribbean breakfast was simply amazing, like my late grandmother used to make for us! You can taste the difference in the quality of the ingredients.
very bad service, the lady is sooo rude without any reason
Traditional Guyanese food
Outstanding Caribbean fair!!!! If you are looking for a Salt Fish & Bake weekend breakfast, this place is for you!!! Quick service for take-out or dine-in by a great staff. Homemade Mauby and Sorrel available. Chow mein and rice dishes are fantastic!! A gem of a find just off the 401 on Morningside Ave. Ordered the stew chicken with R&Ps just today and it was fantastic!!!!!
Delicious food and great service.
yummy food
The best west Indian food in the city. We always order the special chicken fried rice and low mien. They always put plenty of pepper sauce on the side for us. Great food - the best. Definitely recommend if youre looking for west indian chinese cuisine.
The jerk chicken was great! It was spicy without being too smoky, but the rice and peas lacked flavor. The curry chicken was tender and juicy, but a bit on the bland side.
Nice halal west Indian food
Bit expensive but been shopping there since the 90s . Variety of Caribbean foods and grocery .
Charlies is the best
A+++
