2570 Birchmount Rd, Scarborough, ON M1T 2M5, Canada
Modest counter-serve Jamaican eatery featuring jerk chicken, curried goat & other classic dishes.
The jerk chicken is incredibly flavorful, moist and tender. I've been coming here for years and always have a fantastic experience.
What a delightful culinary experience! The Kingfish was fit for a King..succulent and tasty.Chris is a Master of his craft. My family all enjoyed their scrumptious meals from the Red Snapper to the Curry chicken. Chris was delightful to chat with after our meal.We will be back! Thanks to Chris and his wonderful staff! Nick and family.
My Aunt lives on Pharmacy and Finch and highly recommended that we visit. It definitely did not disappoint. This place is exclusively take-out. The impressive variety of easy-to-navigate Menu items, fiery, smoky vibrant spices, and depth of flavor is already making me look forward to returning the next time I am in town from the US. We ordered jerk chicken wings, jerk chicken legs, and jerk chicken breast for a total of five people. It was perfect.
Food was good. I think it's over hyped but I wouldn't mind coming back again. Gravy is delicious. I like the rice but I wish they had regular white rice. They do sell shawarma in there also so that threw me off. Again it's not a typical carribean restaurant but it is good
Really poor experience eating here. Ordered two Jerk chicken shawarma wraps with fries and jerk gravy on top. They were very poor quality. The jerk chicken wrap had all the toppings on it and it tasted too sweet. The coleslaw is very poor quality and they use this sweet mayonnaise. They even forgot to put on plantain on both of the wraps and they charged us extra for them. Overall it was a soggy wrap that lacked texture and had a very bad flavour balance. You need to add the hot sauce on top. The fries were essentially cafeteria fries that were frozen with jerk sauce on top. mediocre at best. I do not recommend this place, they skip out on quality ingredients. Our total came to $43.12 for a sub par food experience.
The food is delicious here, plenty of options, and make sure you try the hot sauce. Jerk chicken combo is the go-to. Service is good when it's fairly busy but slows down to a halt when there are the usual long lineups. It is a rare occurrence but, one time, they skipped my friends order completely, he went up to the cash a few times and they kept saying it's coming, however order numbers after his kept getting called, when the lady finally took a good look at the receipt, they had realized they messed up and missed an order. We ended up wasting 45 mins with that whole ordeal. Only standing tables against the wall where the lineup usually is, no space to really eat, this is basically a take out spot.
Wanted to come for years and finally made it! We ordered: Oxtail Rice 💕 Chicken Breast Jerk Poutine 💕 Pork Rice 👌 The rice and peas that came with the oxtail, and pork were very tasty and almost creamy-like. The oxtail was a very generous portion, about one third of the container with fall off the bone, well marinated Berkshire flavour. The pork was also very tender, but a lot of the pieces had too much fat. The jerk poutine was amazing, the best I've ever had I think! I was worried the chicken breast wouldn't be tender, but it was actually very juicy and tender. They're very generous with the gravy and cheese on this poutine 👌
I tried the popular jerk chicken (breast) poutine there is different options so that's why I specified just check the menu, I must say it lived up to expectations of flavor and enjoyment with crispy fries moist chicken breast that's right moist not dry with the mixture of the gravy on top and shredded cheese, hot sauce is nice to me but it's a creeper with the heat giving you a kick in the back of your tongue after tasting the flavor. The service was okay, staff could work on being more welcoming to people as they walk into the establishment to place a order. While waiting for my food to be ready a young lady walked in to get a refund for the food she ordered being polite and quiet about it so make sure to check your order before leaving.
Their jerk chicken meal is sooo delicious. I love it. Very filling. It s a small take-out shop.
Amazing service - the staff are friendly and welcoming! They were able to accommodate me with a last minute party tray order of jerk chicken! It was a hit dish at the party we attended. You won t be disappointed! Thank you again!
Ordered the jerk pork. I would say about 40% was fat. I couldn t eat it.
The best authentic Jamaica food
Frist time at Chris jerk and I was very happy, the jerk chicken was crazy good and juicy, and the rice was very good. Definitely going to make this one of my stops for lunch
Ordered the stew beef with rice and peas and coleslaw. I am sorry that I believed in the hype of this place.. Food wasn t that great. Wouldnt recommend, thats for sure. Extremely pissed at the jerk pork pieces, literally 11 pieces & 7 of them were just fat I spent $12+ on that side order for a container full of fat kmt
It s little pricey, for where it is but worth it overall
Yummy
Delicious
Naw this place fell off the chicken was dry and hard the gravy lack flavor just tasted salty - came at lunch no reason for the chicken to be this over done. Veggies were cooked properly.
Very authentic and delicious Jamaican food! It s the best poutine we have ever had
Very tasteful jerk chicken, fair prices, quick service
My favourite place for jerk chicken dinner. Their Ox tail is also a favourite.
Best jerk chicken in town. You can sub out the rice with vegetables instead but I prefer their jerk sauce over the rice any day man
Food is super amazing best I ever had from any franchise in Toronto just the cashier part take one step back a little and breathe make your customers wanna order more not to wanna hurry and go tell us about the food introduce us to new stuff smile cause that alone will make a person feel welcome and for the chefs I don t know how you all do it but don t stop that food is top level super awsome can eat it every day even the rice I ll eat alone
Got a take out from this place for jerk chicken. I guess they cooked rotten chicken or something i ended up having extreme stomach ache and some symptoms of food poisoning and spent 7 hours in emergency in North York General. I guess this would be my first and last visit. Food
Amazing good!
Waited a bit, but it was busy so it was expected. The wait was worth it as I loved it!
My work partner and I came by yesterday and ordered their jerk chicken shawarma as we had heard good things about it. In all honesty, we were pretty disappointed. The wraps looked like those tortillas you could buy off of no frills. The chicken was a bit dry, not fresh, and barely tasted like Jerk. It was lacking in both quantity and quality. The vegetables seemed old (the lettuce was soggy and had variations of color). For some reason, the wrap was also sweet.... All in all, it did not live up to the hype. Either it was just a one bad experience, or maybe their plates (rice & meat or poutine) are better. I am willing to come back and try their plates, but their wraps are a no for me.
Went there yesterday for lunch for the first time. When I opened my tray a bug crawled out of my food. Had I not returned to work to eat my lunch I would ve easily asked them for a refund. I ll never eat here again
Great place That sells authentic jerk chicken very tasty Definitely will recommend going to this spot Food : 5/5 |
Upon entering I didnt feel a warm vibe from the staff and all of them were poker-faced throughout. The jerk chicken breast meal was pretty good with a reasonable portion and the breast was cooked perfectly without being chewy. It was a little on the salty side probably because of the amount of gravy in it.
Very busy little place, good tasting food!
Delicious food! Tried the jerk chicken and it was amazing, generous portions and the taste will make your taste buds dance!!
This is hands down the best jerk take out I have ever had, I have ordered the jerk pork several times and it was fresh hot and absolutely melt in your mouth. Perfect amount of spice, I highly recommend
Incredible! Best Jerk Ive had in the GTA!
If you re looking for the real thing, it s worth making the trip to Chris jerk. The food is out of this world and the amount of people that come and go is definitely an indication of how delicious everything is. The only disappointing thing is I would ve liked to have eaten there, rather than take it home. Regardless I ll make the trip again.
The jerk chicken as compared to other authentic places is not as good. Also a meal means food with salad and drink but they don t offer drink with the meal.
Best jerk chicken meal ever !!! Wouldn t go anywhere else
Good tasty food, i wish they added more portions of the rice.
Tried twice, just to make sure it was not just a one off bad experience the first time. (Nothing bad to report) All this hype for overall just an over priced very average or mediocre food, flavour wise not even close to authentic jerk food. 100% there are much better Caribbean restaurants out there!
People go here for the jerk chicken shawarma, and I can see why. Excellent quality, good flavour and a unique but excellent mix of jerk and shawarma. I d definitely go again. That said, the jerk chicken on its own is good but not for me. I tried the jerk chicken platter recently, and it s a very saucy chicken instead of the dry rub jerk chicken I prefer. Lots of people like it though, so that s probably a personal taste thing. Parking: Standard strip mall parking lot. Never seen it full even at lunchtime. Wheelchair accessibility: No issue getting to the front door, but space is small and gets crowded, so manoeuvring might be a minor issue.
Need oxtail!
Delicious food and great prices. Always Fresh. I also know the owner and hes friendly and kind and takes lots of pride in his restaurants
Really great food. Loved it.
Mediocre food, overhyped
Absolutely best jerk chicken I ever had. Rice was moist and cooked perfectly. Steamed veggies and a side of hot sauce that was delicious with just a hint of heat. I almost ordered a 2nd one to take hom for tomorrow.
Fav Jerk place around! Flavour is fantastic
Been coming here for 10 years and will continue to do so! Best Jerk chicken shwarma poutine you can get!
One of my favorite Caribbean spots cant go wrong. Price is good. Quality is good. Customer service is excellent
Needs longer store hours came at 8:04pm and it was close and I love eating here ..
Great jerk chicken, thinking of going back as I type this.
Ive had the Jerk Shawarma and it was fantastic. However, everything else like the jerk chicken dinner or the jerk chicken poutine was way too salty for my taste. All in all, not bad. 100% recommend the shawarma, and dont forget to add plantains ;)
I give the food 5 for taste and flavour, and the service 5 because the ladies at the front are so pleasant. The overall rating however just 4 because I had to wait over 20min for the food to be prepared, as well as for the condition of the wrap. 20+ min seems quite a bit of a wait time for general take-out, especially when it sliced shawarma off the spit. As for the wrap, it was great but as others have commented, they need to use a larger sized wrap to contain the fillings. The moment I unwrapped the foil packaging everything just wanted to fall out because the wrap barely overlapped. Thankfully I was eating it at home, so I ended up using a plate with knife and fork, and ate it like a burrito. Would I come back again? Of course I will, but it could use a bit more improvement with wait-times.
My wife was craving Jamaican food, and I had read about this place on Suresh Doss food map. We got the following: Jerk wings dinner (w/ rice&peas, plantain, cole slaw) Bbq wings dinner (w/fries & cole slaw) Jerk Pork dinner (w/ rice&peas, plantain, cole slaw) The plantain was delicious. The rice and peas were perfect. The fries were excellent. The cole slaw was kinda meh. The jerk & bbq wings were big, juicy and perfectly sauced. The jerk pork was flavorful, juicy and so tender. Definitely going to hit this place up again.
Food and service are always good.
Small but clean place with ample parking. Friendly counter staff. Fair prices. Im a satisfied customer. Food : 5/5 |
Great jerk chicken. Came with some plantines too.
Went here a week ago with my wife of 20 years and Chris was just straight jerking it, and by jerking it I mean he didnt have his pants on. Good for him, would prefer if my wife and kids didnt have to witness it but at the end of the day a mans grind is nothing to judge. Keep jerking it Chris
chicken shawarma is a failure. If you are in Mediterranean shawarma cannot be comparable. The chicken itself is hard and chewy seems a leftover . It didn t taste the jerk seasoning. The vegetables is a coleslaw with a tomato . I just try because of the hype that posted in social media.
So I live in the food mecca of Oshawa HAHAHA I run a shop in Markham, one of my staff used to always order from here. Im a bit of a wimp when it comes to spice so I never did. However I bought my staff lunch last week. Damn. Was sol silent as they all ate. I had to agree, it was fantastic. I probably had the tamest meal with the jerk poutine. Which was incredible. I had to take some home as in no way could finish that pound of food. Great after a beer as well. Bravo I and my staff will be back.
Food is ok but there prices are sky rocket if you compare with the quantity they give. Not worth going there at all.
Food was good but expensive but everywhere in Toronto was. Moreso because we didnt notice it was a metered area and picked up a $28fine. Thanks City of Niagara. This sucks! Parking: Some was driving off as we arrived so parked in their spot. Hunger blurred vision. Didnt see pay parking signs. Ate in. Vision restored. Clearly see $28 fine. Cant have been there an hour. Thanks City of Niagara. Nice welcome!
This place is amazing! I always get the Jerk Salmon. Huge portions, good service, freshly made on the spot, and delicious at a reasonable price. I wish the festival was always available, but then I wouldnt have enough stars to give a higher rating.
Theres a famous online Jamaican restaurant that s closed two days a week and only offers takeout. The food there, to be honest, is probably the least photogenic of any cuisine out there, really proving that looks and quality are often inversely related. Jerk Chicken is really good, though I ve got to give a special shoutout to their sweet plantains.
One of my favourite jerk spots in Scarborough. The jerk chicken poutine is so good and portion sizes are great. There is usually a bit of a line but it does move quickly. Very tight spot with limited seating.
Tried the shawarma poutine, it was alright, pretty subpar. BUT for $15 I was expecting more taste wise! They dont use cheese curds so I technically cant call it a poutine. Most likely wont be returning.
Food is always on point but they run out of things sometimes! (Wanted to try shawarma but they had none) Peas and rice and the coleslaw are good (and I normally hate coleslaw). Chicken from here is good. Ive had their jerk chicken poutine as well but its not as good as their meals with rice and coleslaw. Prices are reasonable ($15-ish) for a meal. Strictly a takeout place (no room for tables or chairs) which kind of sucks. Would be nice if they had a sit-down option in Toronto (I know they got a location in Markham but thats too far).
I dont know how the food tastes because I sent my mom and grandma in to get us food and they came back and said girl was on the phone having a great chit chat and there was no service.
It s boiled Jamaican food, no spice, no flavour. Oxtail was just browning and soy sauce, I got extra gravy and the gravy was so watery just soy sauce with oil. Jerk chicken was grilled chicken with slight jerk rub. Jerk poutine was alright. If you are from the Caribbean and expect food to taste like home, this is not the place. It s made for caucasians!!! I don t post bad reviews cause business is tough these days but the owner needs to know.
We decided to visit here after hearing all the hype around this place and the Jerk Chicken Shawarma. Honestly I feel its more hype then anything. We bought 2 Jerk Chicken Shawarmas with plantain, fries with Jerk Gravy and a ginger beer. The Shawarmas: first off they forgot to put our plantain in the Shawarmas -BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT. When you drive 30 minutes for a meal, get charged $1.50 extra for plantain then dont even get it it becomes a serious disappointment. The coleslaw in the Shawarmas was overpowering and sweet. With a Shawarma like that you want more of a savory taste and this one missed the mark. I feel if it had less coleslaw or instead had rice and peas with Jerk sauce it would take the Shawarma to a whole new level. The amount of meat could be a bit more but the coleslaw was honestly the downfall. The Fries with Jerk Sauce: the sauce itself was nice. Flavorful, juicy, tasty but the fries reminded me of those they sell at a high school cafeteria. Nothing special. Crispy thou Ill give em that. The customer service was on point, this one cashier was more then willing to go the extra mile to make me a happy customer and I truly appreciate that. Not a sit in kind of place just take out but apparently they did open a 2nd location for sit in. Overall after spending $45 on lunch it totally missed the mark and left me disappointed for the day. Parking: Its a small strip Plaza with tons of parking
Got the jerk chicken shawarma poutine. The taste was great! However I am giving 3 stars as I find it is very expensive ($20+) for the portion you get. I think covid caused some changes as I remember in 2018-2019, the portions were much larger, and much more gravy and cheese. If they could return to pre covid quality I would change to 5 stars.
Ordered Curry Goat on Rice and Peas. Food portion was good, but it was $22. I got 40% bones, which I expect from curry goat dishes except it was more than usual. I ve had curry goat almost everywhere in the city and I ll tell you now, these guys do a ok job. It wasn t special, the coleslaw was lacking a kick, and the plantain was overripened. I would give this a 4 out of 10 so that converts to a 2/5 on google. I just think their food is commercial, it lacks the authenticity of flavours and focuses more on a bistro style preparation; fair enough it is called a bistro. Not my cup of tea.
honestly, could ve been a five star review but everything falters when it comes to customer service they offer over the phone order, but no one ever picks up the phone. Try it call the phone a couple times you re not gonna get an answer which is kind of crazy. Why would you even offer the service if no one s actually gonna pick up the phone? food itself is quite delicious. I just wish someone picked up the phone because we all know when you get there and placed an order you re gonna have to wait at least 30 minutes.
Food is good but the rate that they increase their prices is outrageous. Some items literally had their prices increase by 40%! Used to be a great place which provides tasty food and value. Update: A few month later price had gone up again. I will unfortunately not come back anymore. Very sad to see one of my go to lunch spot becoming like this
They never disappoint. Live their meals and the portions are huge! Thank you for the amazing meals.
Food tastes great, love the sides with the entree meals. Get their house made hot sauce. Doesnt taste like typical Jerk chicken, but still good. The vegetarian entree is also really good and filling. I wish they made festivals during the week. The wait is ridiculous at times. I once waited over an hour for my food, and they didnt bother giving me a heads up when i ordered. They just kept telling me its coming. Its almost always a long wait but they need to do better at giving customers estimates. You cant call ahead either, even to find out if its busy. Also wouldnt let me purchase drink unless it was with cash. Not even for a fee.
This place is overrated very pricey as well as the jerk chicken was ok not full of flavor just really dark tasted no spices and lacked flavor the steam veg was probably the beat thing I got for this meal wont be going back there thanks for the distasteful memories
Nothing special!! In my opinion, this jerk chicken spot is overhyped. While the chicken is cooked well, the veggies are not well cooked or quality, price and quantity dont compare to the Jerk King on Dufferin or Bathurst. I tried it and was disappointed.
Overrated and overpriced. Ordered the famous jerk chicken shawarma poutine. Hardly any chicken and didn t taste that good. I d recommend Tropical Joes over this any day.
You can t go anywhere in the city to get proper Caribbean food . This food is terrible no taste at all. Scotty bons is nasty and this restaurant makes Scotty bons look good
Our Restaurant Review: CHRIS JERK BISTRO Located 7220 Kennedy Rd. Markham Scarborough, CHRIS JERK BISTRO is a hidden gem that promises an authentic taste of Jamaica .right in the heart of Markham. During our recent 3-day menu taste testing extravaganza, we were treated to the best Jerk chicken and other delights that left our taste buds twerking. One of the standout dishes we indulged in was the basmati rice and peas accompanied by a quarter chicken jerk and perfectly steamed veggies. The flavours melded together harmoniously, creating a culinary experience that was nothing short of exceptional. The sweet potato fries and jerk poutine were also a hit, offering a unique twist on a classic favourite North American dish. Our culinary journey continued with mouthwatering selections such as fried chicken, plantain, oxtail, and a delectable macaroni pasta salad. Each dish earned a perfect 10 out of 10 in our books, showcasing the chefs dedication to quality and flavor and the back of the house team work as a whole. The basmati rice, fluffy and fragrant, served as the perfect canvas for the bold flavors of the dishes. It was evident that the jerk chicken was prepared with his ancestors expertise and passion, reflecting its origin roots in Portland, Jamaica. Every bite was a symphony of authentic herbs and spices that transported us to the bustling streets of the original parish of jerk chicken. Not only was the food exceptional, but the portions were generous, ensuring that no guest left unsatisfied. The staff at CHRIS JERK BISTRO were not only friendly but also incredibly attentive and well-trained. Their warm hospitality added an extra layer of charm to our dining experience, making us feel like cherished guests in their home. THANK YOU LADIES. As we eagerly anticipate our next visit, we look forward to sampling the vegetarian, salmon and other fish dishes that CHRIS JERK BISTRO has to offer. With such a remarkable culinary journey behind us, we cant wait to see what other delights this establishment has in store. THANK YOU ALL @CHRIS JERK BISTRO, for a truly unforgettable dining experience. See you soon! Shabazz & Shercile
I ordered the curry chicken with rice and peas. The chicken was well seasoned and delicious, but the highlight was the rice! The best Ive ever tried honestly. I enjoyed every bite of my meal. The serving was so generous that I actually had the rest for dinner. I ordered the king fish with provision for my mom, and she had enough food leftover as well. The staff was very friendly and their system (from ordering to getting the food) is quite effective, given the small space and how busy it gets in there! I have previously tried the jerk chicken poutine and it was also great. The portions are always so filling. Hiiiiiiiighly recommend!
Chili chicken and pepper shrimp is the only thing you wanna order, worth it.
Food was amazing! Cant wait to go back for more and try out more dishes. Their Mac pie was an unexpected surprise, hope they have some the next time I go back.
Very good food
Basmati rice does not support the Carribbean (Jamaican) taste profile at all. A heavier rice is needed to carry the flavors of rice and peas like Jasmin rice.
This is NOT jerk chicken. Tried twice just to make sure I wasn t dreaming. Nope not dreaming. Colleagues from work went for the first time. Same result, the proprietors jerk seasoning is an insult to jerk chicken. In Scarborough it doesn t get any worse.
Ordered the jerk chicken shawarma poutine which was really good. There was so much gravy and the portion was very large. Partner got the jerk chicken with rice and peas. Rice was lacking flavour and they used basmati rice which was an odd choice. Jerk itself was good but a little too sweet from what I prefer. Overall a good little spot for takeout jerk if you prefer their style of making it
It is one of the best places in Scarborough for Jamaican food. Hands down. I had the oxtail, rice, and peas! Divine!
What happened to this place?!! The jerk meal I ordered was tasteless. Seems like they just put some sauce on top of the chicken and called it a day. There was no flavour, at all.I will not be going back.
Chicken Shawarma was tasty and delicious. Oxtail was flavourful but could ramp up the taste with a little scotch bonnet in the stew.
No idea what the hype is all about. I got the Jerk leg dinner. Rice and chicken had no taste at all.
Very bland . Customer service however was great
I came with my husband to eat here recently on a whim, and I m so glad we tried Chris Jerk! He had the jerk chicken dinner and I had to try the jerk chicken poutine. I love poutine, but just note that this isn t an authentic poutine with cheese curds, but rather shredded cheese. Still very tasty, but important to note for the poutine purists out there lol. My husband says the rice and beans in the dinner were delicious, served piping hot, and very generous portions. For both of us to spend less than $40 for a meal out nowadays, Chris Jerk hits the spot. We will definitely return!
Jerk chicken was great very flavourful, rice was a little dry that other pieces clumped up, cabbage had a bit of a funk but Im not a cabbage person
Best Caribbean in the area. Large portion with reasonable price. Services will be slow during busy hours. Love their shawarma poutine and ox tail.
The poutine was good. But the goat curry was tough to chew as it was hard not nice and tender. The jerk pork was okay, more saucy than expected and not enough of a jerk kick to it. Lower rating because they forgot our jerk pork meal which led to us waiting 35 minutes after the other food was given to us. Then the cashier who took the order forgot about the order then acted like she didnt know what my husband was talking about... The person coordinating the meals brought it out and she finally apologized and mentioned she would talk to the woman. I hope she did talk to her as that was a frustrating experience (plus the cashier was not nice) since we had to leave in a hurry.
Don t believe all the hype. Food was not authentic-specifically jerk chicken w/ rice and peas. Jerk chicken was not grilled. It really tasted like it was just baked. The marinate seasoning didn t taste any different from the jerk sauce you d find in a jar at your local grocery store. The gravy sauce was too tangy which overpowered the canned beans rice and peas. If u want authentic jerk chicken with rice and peas, i wouldn t recommend this place. Its not worth the price they are selling it for. Chicken is not grilled, beans are not soaked, gravy is way too tampered. And to make matter worse i found two strands of hair in my salty veggies (one short curly hair and one long wavy hair). Disgusting! Honestly, the owner need to implement better food care and they can start with the use of hairnets.
Food is good but it was way too salty.
Solid 2 stars for mediocre food and sour attitudes.
Food is fine, fair portion
Food and people are amazing. The food is DELICIOUS! I have literally everything on the menu and you cannot go wrong with whatever you choose!
My go to Caribbean spot. The food here is to die for. I would wait hours just to have a taste of their jerk sauce, rice, meat and plantain. Every single meal they make is made with love and the ingredients I can tell are super fresh. As for service they are always nice to me and get straight to the point. This is how you run a business.
Curry Chicken Entree was fire! Closed thing Ive had to home cooked Jamaican food on road.
Great spot and great service!
Just as good as Birchmount location. Great and friendly service too.
Not amazing but not bad. Flavor is not bad. Got the jerk chicken and Currie chicken with chick peas. Might try the goat Currie next time.
Havent been here in a couple years, we definitely liked it in the past, but was disappointed in our most recent order of jerk pork and jerk chicken dinners - lacked flavour and was drier than I recall.
Best Jerk chicken period ..
This is my third time trying this restaurant, and I must say that their food is consistently delicious. I have tried two different dishes: the jerk chicken poutine and the mac n cheese (jerk chicken with mac) that comes with a side of coleslaw. Both dishes were excellent. The service is fast, but because they are always so busy, there is a bit of a wait time for the food to be ready. The location I go to is small, so you cannot dine in. However, they did open up another location in Markham. I dont know how big or small that location is, but I am excited that there is another one open.
Had the jerk shwarma. It is ok, nothing special. Had better jerk at other places. Food : 3/5
Ive been waiting half an hour for the takeout, which was unacceptably long. The worst part was that over 10 ppl ordered after me they got the food first. I raised my concern, and no one cared! I dont care how tasty the food is, if the service is that had. Very bad experience, I swear I would never come back
I would like to give them more stars. Their food (what I have had once before) was tasty. However, their customer service leaves much to be desired (from two visits). The first one visit involved trying to buy some shawarma poutine. I got up to the order desk to only to be told no more shawarma. Ok, fine, no biggie. It happens towards the end of the day (early dinnertime, but it could be popular). Only to have someone elses shawarma poutine order to be placed in front of me (after I changed my order). A bit annoying (especially with the curt attitude of the order taker), but surely its just a one time thing I thought. So recently I was passing by (at 5pm) and thought to myself, Hey, lets try them again... And this was the more aggravating visit. I enter and to the right I see a chalk board with Daily Specials... they list three different specials. Ok, lets try one... so walk up to the order area and ask for one of the specials. Sorry, daily specials end at 4pm (note I was there at 5pm and they were still posted)... We still have the stuff for the specials, but you have to pay full price. (and then one of the staff from the back runs out to take down the various special meal stickers) Sadly, customer service is not their strong point. In fact, to be told Hey, we have the stuff for the specials and we forgot to remove the specials list but you have to pay full pop (and who ends their daily special at 4pm??? If its a lunch special, call it that) leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. As I said, I did have some of their offerings before (not what I wanted, but lets get past that) and it was very tasty. But especially how the second visit went down? Sorry, I wont be back and I cannot recommend them.
The Jerk Chicken Shawarma Wraps I got for my wife and me for lunch hit the spot yesterday. We highly recommend it if youre looking for a hearty lunch on the go.
Beautifully presented food, great portion size! It takes quite a while but it s because the food is well made. It is a bit sweeter than I like my oxtail to be but everyone has a different flavour profile. Will try the famous jerk next time!
This was our first time ever trying poutine. I live in the states and so wish there was a Chris Jerks back home! The poutine was of french fries, which were covered with shawarma and gravy!! It was plenty for 2 people to share, though next time Im getting my own!! Kid-friendliness: Kids will love the food!
From the moment I walked in, the staffs warmth and friendliness made me feel right at home. Despite the lunch rush, the service was impressively swift. The star of the meal was undoubtedly the jerk shawarma. Bursting with Caribbean flavors, each bite was a delightful blend of spices and tender meat. What stood out to me was the attentiveness of the servers. Despite the busy period, they ensured everyone was well taken care of. Ill definitely be returning to explore more of their menu, and I highly recommend it to anyone craving a taste of the Caribbean with a side of excellent service. Only strange thing is, I didn t see fries on their menu even though you are able to order it. I know menus are difficult to create with space limitations, but I felt like I wasn t sure if I was maybe missing out on options because they weren t put on the menu.
Good jerk
Just got a chance to try out there new location at kennedy and 14th in markham. This location is spacious, with dine in available (limited seating) and free parking. Allow yourself 15-30min for your order. We ordered the jerk chicken poutine, jerk meal with rice and peas (they use basmati rice) with veggies and fried chicken with coleslaw and veggies (coleslaw is the made with vinegar and tastes amazing and tangy!) I love how consistent with the food, hits the spot everytime and staff were eally friendly and welcoming.
I been going to Crist jerk for a long time today I m little upset they didn t have wrap at 4pm they didn t have poutine as well, end up getting jerk chicken with rice and peas, the service kind a off the girl at the cashier with the purple bands she little bit rude I find
Love this place been coming here for a few years and it has some of thr best food in thr city.
Had the Jerk shawarma. It lives up to the hype.
They have one of the best jerk chicken in the city! Their wraps are also really good! Parking: Its in a plaza
I don t know what the hype is about Chris Jerk! We didn t even get rice and peas it was just plain basmati rice, chicken quarter leg with some bland gravy on top and steamed veggies and plantains. The best part was the plantain to be honest! This had no flavour and it s too expensive for bland food. I expected more flavour for a jerk food. Sorry guys but I wouldn t recommend. For people who love jerk food I know they like spicy and good flavour from the gravy and rice and peas, this is not that.
Great place. Shawarma chicken with rice is the best.
This is a small take out place. The wait for food to cook is about 15 minutes once orders are in, very efficient. Jerk pork was too fatty, chunks of fat. Other than that everything else are excellent (chicken, Salmon, shrimp and plantain).
This is a gem and amazing jerk to get in the area. Prices are great and the food is amazing. Unfortunately they sell out of the shawarma jerk early so really do try that it s a killer! It s a grab and go place but be prepared to line up right at the door ! Is it worth the wait? Hell yeah!
Jerk and ox tail were good... but the service here was brutal.. the woman taking my order was rude... and I waited here an hour after paying for my food... they served several people before me who ordered well after me... too bad, cause I would come back for the food... but theres too many other Caribbean restaurants in the area to choose from
Went to the Markham location. Waited for 40mins for two orders. I had much better jerk chicken and pork in Mississauga restaurants before. Yup, long wait and the food was only 2.5/5. Ladies at the counter were very nice.
Changed my review for this place after having a terrible second experience here. Will not be returning ever! Smiles are free... yet everyone working there looks miserable to be there.
Long wait for food over 45 min around lunch time . Had the jerk wings they were okay. To bland for my taste
This is the place to meet and eat great food
I actually prefer their curry over jerk. My favourite is the curry shrimp, especially because theyre not stingy with flavour or portions!
The food is always good here!
got the jerk chicken with rice and peas food lacks flavouring and rice is bland in other words i would recommend island spice on pitfield
What a viiibe. Dont sleep on the jerk poutine. Amazing. First time there and they were really nice. Hot sauce was good too Food : 5/5
The food so so freaking good. The gravy is drinkable
The food is amazing but the people especially the ladies are so rude and talk to you in a condescending manner !!!
I like the food Parking: Good parking Food : 5/5 |
Always wanted to try this place out as we kept passing by it. We stopped by for takeout on Saturday morning and there was already a long line of people inside the restaurant. We ordered plantains, jerk shawarma wrap, and jerk chicken on rice. Everything was fairly priced compared to markham or dt prices. The plantains were thickly cut and just reminded me of a firm brown (sweet) banana slice. The wrap was dry, even though we ordered with garlic mayo sauce, and the chicken was okay... The star of the show was definitely the jerk chicken on rice!! Chicken was tender and juicy, nothing overly spicy, yummy gravy and a big portion. Well definitely come back for more of this one.
This place is delicious some of the best food Ive had. If its a line do your self a favor & just wait dont go somewhere else & be disappointed
Got the jerk chicken with the fried plantain. Fresh and tasty. 10/10
They have jerk shawarma.. what more can I say. Outstanding.
Good pricing. Take out only
So good
The stories are true!!! The best jerk chicken in TO!!!! (Customer Service can be improved, as everyone doesn t even try to smile or even tried to interact with the customers! I know its a busy day, but a little hi will have a huge impact!)
Love the food at Chris Jerk. Its been a round for a long time. Theyre jerk chicken, and oxtail is definitely a must try. And dont forget to get their hot sauce. Theyre to die for.
I used to frequent this place all the time back when I worked in Scarbs and scrolling through my reviews, I cant believe I never wrote a review for this place back in the day! This place and P Jays (really nearby actually) have the best Jamaican food in Toronto imo. I came back recently to see if its maintained its legendary standards and quality and I was not disappointed at all. I arrived 40 min before closing time on a tuesday and ordered up the oxtail entree with a jerk leg on the side. One of my go-to orders (the other being the jerk shawarma poutine). The chefs hooked me up with the fattest portion of food and gave me extra gravy on my chicken. The oxtail is great (though it doesnt beat P Jays oxtail) but the rice and jerk chicken are definitely better here than at P Jays. Im also not a fan of steamed veggies in general but these were ok. Id much prefer coleslaw and apparently Im reading from some of these other reviews that you can ask for slaw instead of the steamed veggies which is awesome. This resto is iconic and every bit deserving of its high rating. YAHHHH MONN!
