Cantonese Cuisine & Seafood
My mother and I went here because she was informed by her friend that this was a good restaurant. It’s about average and in a corner of a quiet plaza. There was only one server that spoke English and she was in a rush to leave as it was her time off.
It's a very popular Chinese restaurant with good food at a reasonable price. The restaurant is small, so reserve ahead. There is a basement with tables but the ambience is worse down there. All of the dishes were enjoyable, but I particularly enjoyed the fish, which was very soft and flavourful.
The food was pretty good. Old Cantonese dishes. The service was quick and efficient, but not very friendly.
Overall food was good for its taste typical Cantonese restaurant you have some dirty dishes, sticky chopsticks but of course we can always clean that with tea so no problem. Reasonable prices most dishes weren’t too salty and staff was friendly for the most part they were a shame not having tofu dessert cause they ran out. A good family dining place pretty small so make reservations!
The food was pretty good. Classic Cantonese dishes. The service was quick and efficient, but not very friendly. The cram tables together, so it's not very comfortable. I highly recommend making reservations. They were turning away walk-ins.
Great quality and value, generous portions. Authentic. Better come during weekdays so you can get table. Otherwise need reservations.
Good value, reasonable quality. We saw May Yan Seafood on social media, and the set menus looked like value you couldn't get anywhere else in the GTA nowadays. We did make a reservation, which seems to be necessary if you go on a weekend since the restaurant is pretty small. It is a typical Scarborough restaurant, with limited decor and embellishments but solid food. We found that all our chopsticks were sticky but we didn't let that interrupt our meal. We ordered the set menu for 6, which came with 2.5lb lobster, steamed fish, sweet and sour pork, beef and veggie, fried rice, and half a chicken. For $128 dollars, this is a great deal. We added $10 to get the lobster done in typhoon style, rather than ginger and scallion. Overall, the taste was good - nothing too special, but I enjoyed all the dishes. I think the portion for some of the dishes was small to be shared amongst 6 people, but you can always add another dish. Split amongst 5 people, we each paid $35 including tax and tip which is a great price nowadays. For a normal dinner, this is perfect, but for a special occasion I would choose something different since the environment is not the best.
Delicious food at a very reasonable price. The dinner combos contained: greens, lobster, fish, beef, chicken, and rice. All for $120 which is a very good deal. The short haired waitress without glasses gave excellent customer service. Very, very nice. Reserving a table at least one week in advance is needed since very few tables are inside and is usually packed so no tables for drop ins. Desert is tofu 豆腐花, which you don't see served too often; it's usually red bean soup. Edit 2023/11/04: Delicious food and tofu pudding desert. Very good service from the short haired lady.
Great restaurant tucked away in a plaza. Has a late 80s feel with its neon lights alongside excellent dishes that had me craving more.
Delicious Cantonese cooking served by friendly staff. Very reasonable price for the quality (and quantity) of the dishes. Vegetarian options: Plenty of choices for vegetable stir fries.
One of the best chinese restaurants in toronto. Best food best servers
this is our familys go to place for Cantonese food. great food , service, location.
Just as good a previous owner
Service and food very
Good food with plenty of good portions
The food and prices are very good. One should not miss their lunch special.
Great Cantonese food very reasonable price, the place is a bit old.. but overall is still pretty clean..
Great food
Clean little place. Traditional old Hong Kong style dishes.
Lobster was superb. However, they raised the prices recently where it is now $22/lb (as of Sept 2024) for takeout. There is also a hidden surcharge for bigger lobsters, which raises the it to $26/lb. If you are fine with the smaller lobsters, it is still $22/lb. We ordered 7lbs. This was not advertised anywhere and raised the price by about $30 for in total for us
The food is good, the service is ok, but if you sit against the wall, you cant go to the bathroom because its so cramped.
Some dishes are salty.
Food quality and services are excellent. Seating is a bit tight.
Although the appearance of the environment is ordinary, the food is of extremely high quality and tastes authentic. They also provide you with buried tofu curd for dinner, which makes it feel like home! Will definitely eat again!
Delicious! Old-fashioned Cantonese food!
Very good Cantonese food, nice service; Very delicious Cantonese food, nice service.
Typical neighborhood dish. The quality is not compromised and the price is fair.
Hidden secret in the city - bang for your buck
Tried the restaurant based on the reviews. The spring beans and pork dish is great. Lobster was good and decent value for money. Worth trying once, and might return to try the Lobster in a different sauce
Very good food. Very nice service. Very recommendable.
As soon as I walked in and saw many elders eating, I knew that this restaurant was of good quality! Every dish is delicious! Lobster standing fish meal is cost-effective The four of us in the group only ate half of it and were already full. Everything else is packed The Jinsha Pumpkin Shrimp Balls are another order I heard that the boss only cooks this dish when he is not busy. Finally, the ginger tofu cake is the perfect finishing touch
Good lobster. nice owner.
Food is still as good as ever at this small hole in the wall...they still have the deep fried small silver fish! Resturant is as busy as ever. Great old fashioned Canton cooking, portions are still good, prices are still reasonable compared to the Congee Queen garbage down the street. English is limited with their waiting staff, but that doesnt seem to stop their vast Caucasian clientele.
Read this before you go to this place: 1. Food is overpriced very much. 2. Poor service, they made the wrong dish for me and asked me what to do. Theyre not willing to correct the problem. 3. She tricked me that she would give me a discount, but ended up she didnt. If I could give zero stars, I would do so.
Traditional Chinese restaurant with good food, great prices, and no frills. The squail and soup was really good. Call a day ahead of squail or lobster and bring cash.
One of the better Chinese seafood restaurants. No frills, but food is amazing. Staff are attentive and food full of wok hai piping hot food to your table.
Small restaurant, very good food. Ownership changed last 2 year. Quality remains
Last minute price increase of $10 is dishonest Lobster and fish meal $128, temporary call $138
The place was busy at the time but was able to get a table. They give you big portions of the meal. Food is good, service was fine considering it was lunch hour. Yeah Id recommend this restaurant.
I saw online they still serve the fried little fish on the lobster that my kids used to like elsewhere but they stopped making it the fish. We happened to be in the area and wanted to check it out. I didn t realize it s so busy you need a reservation and we came at 5:30. We said we can eat super fast with the kids and be out before they need the table for the reservation. The food was great value and tasted great. I miss eating good Cantonese food like this. We got a set menu and everything was great. And tofu dessert is my number one favourite that s never usually served so that was wonderful. Staff very quick and attentive to change our plates. Atmosphere gives me nostalgic vibes from the restaurants I d go to with my grandparents in the 90s. I d return for sure. EDIT: Picked up a 10 lb lobster tray for a party the week after and it was great. Big hit at the party! Meaty pieces and tasty. We just got the normal style for the party.
Decent Chinese restaurant. I love the sweet, anf sour chicken. Not too many places have it tofu clay put was average for dinner comes with complimentary starter soup and dessert I would come back
Good service, tasty food, recommend the pigeon and chicken
Overall, the restaurant was pretty good, the service was excellent for a Chinese restaurant. The food was 7.6/10. The flavors were great, but i found the meat to be tough and the chicken a bit on the over cook side. Overall, the flavor profile of each dish was pretty good. Google didnt give the option, but i would highly recommend the (salted egg york covered pimkin or bittermelon) they were both excellent 8.6/10 for both.
The restaurant serves very delicious food. The prices are very reasonable and the staff are dedicated and attentive. Our family will often return here to enjoy traditional Asian dishes...
Lowkey the best meal I ve ever had
Should have refused and left. They seated us in the basement and refused 2 of our orders because they were too understaffed to cook them. They brought the soup but just put it on the lazy susan and left. Poor decision on our part of staying.
I ordered lobster combo says contains a lobster has 2.5 lb. I get 2 incredible small lobsters instead. Chicken is salty and dry. $120 combo plus tax and tip, is more than $160. Definitely not worth it.
tastes very good Maggi lobster is delicious
Got the lobster take out and I got it typhoon style which was $10 more. I got 3 lbs which came out to be $80. The price was okay for 3lbs, but I definitely expected more lobster. This was not worth $80 of lobster. It was even more disappointing that I found out THREE of the lobster tail pieces didn t even have meat in it, and it was just the shell. The server who was also taking phone calls was also rude and was rushing to finish the call because she said they were busy.
Picked up Lobster party tray. Good price. Good quality. Tastes good at home many hours later, so probably tastes even better if enjoyed at the restaurant. Definitely returning.
The restaurant has been around for awhile, though it has changed hands and names at some point. The food is still good, and the restaurant is still very obviously popular (with a constant stream of patrons), but this most recent visit was only OK in my opinion. The standout was the winter melon soup, which is one of their popular dishes and requires reserving ahead of time. Ive always found the restaurant to be a bit crowded, especially since they pack every inch with tables. Since the pandemic, theyve closed the one side of the restaurant (there used to be a pass-through area to a small second space), so seating is even more limited. Parking is similarly limited in that particular plaza, so expect to spend some time finding a spot. Service is efficient but like many other Chinese restaurants, very to the point/no-nonsense, which may come off as a bit blunt. They were nice, but it was also clear that they were hoping to turn over tables quickly.
Service was great, friendly and fast. The family dinner combo had a delicious variety; Peking duck, chicken, lobster and more.
The review Im going to give has more to do with the business practices of this restaurant, specifically around payment. Ive been to this restaurant a total of 3 times and each time Ive gone to pay their debit/credit machines are not working. Now, if my 3 visits happened within the same week I wouldnt think anything of it but these visits were spread out over 3 months. I know small businesses are feeling the pinch of the economy were in , but if youre trying to save on the transaction fees to improve your bottom line, put up a sign saying you only accept cash, instead of having your customers drive to a bank after eating their meals.
So delicious!! And the price is amazing. We got lobster, rice and sweet and sour pork. Can t wait to go back
The excellent Chinese food cooking
Best Chinese restaurant in Toronto. My family comes here every few weeks, and the food is always perfect. Some people might think their service is not great, but thats just how Cantonese people talk.
food is always spot on with excellent service from aunties. it genuinely feels like youre dining at a living room of a Cantonese family - warm and homey.
Good quality and service.
Terrible services and waitress shows the attitude to customer.. Food was OK.
Very good food! Clean too The owner is the rudest person!..... however! If u can overlook her bad personality then its ok
Best lobster special.
Food not good and salty which are not expensive.
No fuss restaurant with affordable pricing and really good food. We were still digesting our late lunch but peckish enough to eat a small dinner. Its not a very big place. We arrived at 8pm and they accommodated us (without fuss or attitude) anyhow. Food is great! Had a 4 person combo including Chicken dish/ stir-fry lobster/ beef dish/ veggie dish and a couple bowls of plain steamed rice. Nothing was left to take home. Reservations recommended.
I had dinner with my family in the restaurant on Christmas. We ordered the lobster and fish combo for $128, which had the double lobster, a steamed fish in soy sauce, fried beef with Gai Lan vegetable, half a concubine chicken in ginger and Chinese onion, fried rice with lobster fat, and fried pork ribs.
Actually not too bad, they have great deals with large portions.
Great flavours and PORTIONS. The photos do not accurately represent how massive these plates of food are especially for their price. Cant wait to come back and try more off the menu!
Ordered a day ahead of time for 5pm pickup. Got there at 5 pm on the day of the order and it wasnt ready and some of the dishes ordered were sold out and they didnt even start preparing the order yet. They didnt call to inform or provide any options. I was planning a big family dinner and was left scrambling. Never ordering from there again. Big disappointment.
Their food is among the best. That s for sure.
Went for an early Sunday dinner with a few friends. One was a regular who was shocked by how rude the make server was. Highly unusual apparently. I would never go back based on his attitude. The other (female) servers were all friendly and professional. Food was quite good. Must have reservation as the place is small and quite popular (despite the rude server!)
Came here for dinner a few days ago and returned for lunch special today. The food is not too salty (other than the dishes that specifically is cooked with soy sauce), fish is cooked well, and things that are fried then coated with sauce (sweat and sour chicken, the grouper and tofu in hot pot) still have a good crunch despite the sauce. Great portion sizes too!
Excellent services from staff!! All dishes with good portion and delicious!!
Service was extremely slowwww, food tasted below average and the prices were kind of high. Would not go back.
very good and nice
It tastes great! The price is not expensive and very affordable.
If you complain, you get special food that would give you DIARRHEA for a few days. Food is wonderful until you complaint. On August 21, 2023, we went there for lunch, done that many times. This time, on that Monday, we waited and waited for our order while all other tables who ordered after we did got their food. I asked the waitress why we are not getting our order. Bad move. I finally finished with my diarrhea today.
tasty! There are just too many people, not enough hospitality, and the place is a bit crowded.
May be went in the wrong time. Awaited for an hour still have no food served during lunch hour.
May Yan Seafood Restaurant seems to be a restaurant with a high cost-performance ratio. We had a lot of dishes that day, but each person only paid around HK$15. It was really affordable. Lufu Seafood Restaurant is a very cost-effective restaurant restaurant. Each of us ate a lot of food that day, but each of us only ate about 15 mosquitoes.
Went after opening for dinning in Oct 17 for dinner. Only three tables but many were waiting for pickup around six. Food was good but some scallops were not really up to standard. Menu is the same old one.
Ordered crispy chicken, tempeh fish, kale beef and dry-fried beef river. The taste is average, nothing special. The taste is salty.
This is our favourite Chinese restaurant with very reasonably priced dishes with very good quality (consistently) and good quantity. The staffs and chefs have been working there for a very long time so we know the quality of food is always consistent and like to bring family and friends there to have a great time.
Solid Cantonese cuisine prepared with a light touch. Arrived on a Wednesday 1:15pm, the restaurant was 80% full with Chinese seniors, many seeming to be regulars. A waitress put both tea and hot water pots on the table without asking, and gave us lunch menus with specials available to 2:30pm. On selection, the waitress coached us (both in English and Cantonese) that 2 dishes was a lot of food, and the seafood chow mein was the most expensive choice. She suggested alternatives, but I explained thats what my father wanted, and we could take leftovers home. The grouper tofu hotpot arrived about 10 minutes later, before the chow mein. Theres a sign on the wall, saying that leftover containers are charged at 25 cents, and customers are welcomed to bring their own containers. Thats one of many signals that this venue is frequented by regulars. Washrooms are downstairs in the basement, and relatively clean. Surface parking lot was rather full, the plaza offers underground parking that we didnt try. Update for Wednesday night dinner: scallops with tofu in black bean sauce is a great presentation, with large scallops! Vegetarian options: Tofu, eggplant are featured. Parking: Entrance and exit are on south side of Sheppard Avenue. Underground parking lot, that we didnt try. No street parking, its a busy intersection.
Tasty food in reasonable price
The teal duck soup is delicious, but reservation is required.
Exquisite Canton cuisine with fresh ingredients. They are easily the best Chinese food in GTA.
Horrible cashier/service. I ordered 2 days in advance for pick up at 6:00 pm on NYE. The restaurant was not busy with patrons but there were many pick up orders. I arrived at 5.40 pm because, if they prepared my order early, I didnt want it sitting there to get cold. I was so wrong. I received the final 2 dishes at 7:00 pm. They prepared the lobster & fish first about 30 minutes beforehand so those were cold. Other people ordered for 6:00 pick up but, they too, had to wait. The rude cashier lady refused to take my payment when I offered then, when she was ready, beckoned my to pay because I was getting anxious. This was a smart move because now I could not leave. She took payment from others who were waiting fearing, I think, that they would also leave. A Chinese girl spoke to the cashier in English &, apparently, she mumbled some rude remark to her in Chinese to which the girl told her that she understood what she said & she shouldnt be so rude to customers. Instantly, the cashier said solly solly. Some people walked in & ordered & she immediately had them pay to secure he sale even though, at one time, there were about 10 people waiting for their orders. The food was tasty but I will not recommend this place to anyone because of the cashier & service.
The best and friendly service; the lobsters are so fresh and yummy. One of my must go diners in GTA!
Great service! VERY FRIENDLY staffs! The food was amazing! Definitely coming back and will recommend to others!
The lobster take-out is awesome. Great price and quality. Love it.
Along fresh seafood and serviced every single time!
UPDATE: To reply to the owners response, thats totally fine I understand. From a 1 star to a 5 star. The food was delicious!!
Very rude service. Waited 50 minutes for my food. Lobster was very cold.
Maggi lobster is cooked nicely and a deal at $20/lb takeout. Beef in Chinese style is a tad sweet for my liking but the steak chunks are of good quality and a large portion. Fook kin fried rice is seafoody goodness. Edit: had to remove a star because of false advertising. Fried garlic lobster is still advertised as $10 extra but I was billed $15.
Best garlic lobster
Decent food with friendly price.
great customer service, food at a very reasonable price comparing to other Chinese restaurants
Our go too chinese restaurant. Best value for quality of food served
Stay away from this restaurant, the service is terrible, rude and ridiculous. I called to order and the guy who took it said I could come to pick up in 25min, when I came then the receptionist lady who was extremely rude said that there was no order and it was my fault for calling during their busy time and only started to make my order then. What kind of attitude was that? I tried to be as polite as possible but nearly lost my control as the lady kept shouting how busy they were and I had to accept it and wait. It took a long time for me to drive to this restaurant so I had to wait but it was unacceptable and I should honestly leave. A lot of reviews here share same experience as mine. To be fair, the lobster is delicious and the price is good compared to the others, these are why I rate this restaurant 2 stars. However, I won t come back as the service ruins everything.
The Maggi flavoured lobster is to die for!! So good!! And Becky s service was amazing! Will definitely come back. Downside is the service is a bit slow, long wait. But price is amazing and the food is amazing.
Great lobster restaurant, super efficient cook and staff, was packed on the day of visit and 3 waitresses managed to serve all and delivered special lobster around 10-20 mins. Provided hot water for rising cutlery and wash hand too!
The price are good and the food are good and the service not really bad some time is good.
prices are still reasonable, service is slipping. they forgot to put in the order
Bad service. We finished all the set dishes already but the fried rice never came even till the end. We keep asking and they keep saying its coming but never came !!!! When we want to add more dishes to order, they told us that they were too busy and theyre not taking any more orders. They even added in the bill some orders that never came.
OMG I hated this place sooo much. The service was so lame the waiters were very rude. The boss was very rude and did not care about the customers. They brang us the wrong dish and they expect to take it. After all of that they ask for a big tip. Please stay away from this restaurant.
Prices reasonable
We came for Mothers day at this restaurant. The service was horrible and the waiter were slow and rude. The owner did not care about the customer and was very rude. The food came out cold and was not good. They brought us the wrong dish and expected us to eat it. After all of that, they told us to give them a big tip. Also, if ur not Chinese, they thing you wont know anything and they would ignore you. Please stay out of this restaurant.
Please do not visit this restaurant as we booked a reservation for 5:00 pm and they dont closed until 9:30 pm and at that time we came they were sold out of most of their menu, after all of that, the service was poorly managed and also very rude.
It is the best restaurant in Scarborough. Good food good services It is the best!!!
Very good food, service is excellent, and waiters are all very friendly! We go there every week! Never disappointed Highly recommend!
Food is fresh and so delicious. I definately recommend this to anyone who likes seafood and authentic chineese food. Great service. Staff is wonderful.
The food is delicious and gamey, and the lunch menu offers a variety of delicacies from 11-2:30. The price is affordable, and it will definitely give you something to eat. Because it is equipped with a more comfortable canteen, it is worth tasting for you and me!
Great Chinese food option. Service should be friendlier and more polite, but overall a good experience.
Recently got a large takeout dinner here and also had a dine in lunch. The eggplant dishes here are really good and flavourful. Most of their stir fry dishes are solid too with good wok control and flavour. The lobster deal they currently have ($20/lb) for take out is a good deal. Their lunch menu is also very good bang for buck since the portions are pretty large for the price. The pork jowl and cucumber vermicelli from their lunch menu was quite bland and flat but their other dishes have all been good. Note that they will charge you $2 for a container fee if you want to separate the sauce in a dish (e.g. sweet and sour pork with sauce on the side).
Pretty tasty and I arrived at the last call for food. Friendly staff!
Food was good here. First time here and staff very friendly.. would definitely return
An authentic Cantonese restaurant
Service is good, the owner was really nice, food is amazing.
Best Chinese food we ever had, no joke. Everything super fresh with ton of flavor and wonderful smell. We are absolutely blown away. Staff was super friendly and polite, cant wait to fo back!
Clean, enjoyable, friendly atmosphere!
This place was seriously undervalued. The tastes of several meals we ordered are all great. Definitely recommend chicken and steamed fish. Very delicious shop. The free-range chicken and steamed fish are great. Its just too far away from me. This time I had a delicious meal along the way. Also packed a fried chicken.
Food was very nice! Will be back
Good food But you need a book seat! I ll bury the pigeon next time
Posted this on IG acct but they deleted it. So posting it here so people are aware and maybe resto will make a change. BUSY is not an excuse. YOU NEED TO IMPROVE YOUR SERVICE and time management. Stop taking orders on the phone while customers are backed up waiting for so long. I called Wed for pick up at 630PM on Sat. Arrived 620PM and was told my order is not ready. There were others waiting awhile yet the lady kept on taking phone orders. It was backed up so there was more than 10 ppl inside the resto (so much for COVID safety). Lady was busy taking orders on the phone and just keep saying to us that order is coming. Waited 1 hour. I got most of my order at 7:05PM by the time i got the last item it was 7:35PM so the rest of the food already turned cold. What is the point of pre orders? Even if you re busy - you have to keep and manage time for pre orders. That is why its PRE ORDERED. The wait was longer than a normal dine in order. Food is mediocre at best, just the hype of covid. I support small businesses all the time, but restaurants have to do their part too. That making sure orders are met within reasonable time.
Thank you for making great my wife s birthday! Definitely I ll visit again.
Good place for squab, usually pretty quiet place.
Delicious food at a very reasonable price. A plate of your choice dish with a full bowl of rice only asks for less than $11 and its sufficient for 2 seniors.
Understaffed. Service is slow and bad. Food quality is just ok. There are tons of Chinese restaurants around with better service, food, environment and price.
Very good food, quick service, and cheap prices. Would definitely recommend this place.
Generally food isn t like spectacular, but I would say a good place if you are looking for a lobster place with decent deals. Relatively cheaper compared to other places. Check out Torontofoodiefattie on Instagram for more posts!
The service is too poor and vulgar. I heard vulgar curses when I was taking a meal, which affected my appetite.
Came here for my aunts bday lunch and it s okay. It s not bad but I have been to other Chinese restaurants with better food.
Great HongKong style seafood. One of the best Cantonese cuisine in Scarborough area.
Delicious and fast, this is a great place for Cantonese food. They do a mix of more casual dishes like fried rice to fancier stuff like scallops in a nest of fried taro. Prices are pretty good and they have some more unique dishes like steamed duck with taro and plum sauce. Theres lots of specials on the walls but many dont have English translations so you might need Google translate. The lamb casserole smelled delicious and was a popular dish during my visit.
Terrible service if you are to take out you better be there or else for another 30 minutes for your order to be done
Tastes good, food is slow, service is average
Great food. Always a great experience. Its our go to restaurant for family dinners.
Order the lobster and fish combo takeout. It was absolutely delicious and reasonable considering the the value and quality for the price. Ill definitely be back.
This is one of the hidden gems for Chinese food! Amazing quality cooking, great service, and good prices! Get the set menus and have a feast!
Good food at what is now reasonable prices.
Service was slow. The food was not served immediately so it was room temperature at best. The food tasted ok.
Great prices for quality food.
Great value for money and good food quality! !
stuffed chicken, sweet and sour pork very good
So excited
Ordered King mushroom with snow pea leaves, crab meat and fish maw soup. Cantonese fried noodles, seafood fried rice noodles and sweet & sour pork. The King mushroom and snow pea leaves were fresh but the sauce was too salty. The soup was really good. The fried noodles and fried rice noodles didnt have much stuff for the price. Lots of batter on the sweet and sour pork. This does not compare to the old Maple Yip. Will not be coming back.
Taste of lobster dishes is excellent and their price is reasonable.
Below average food quality and food pricing. Poor, amateur customer service representatives hanging around unprofessionally. Total waste of money.
Average quality Chinese restaurant. Hard to find a parking spot in this plaza, food was average, and restaurant had a small environment. Overall 3 stars!
Very delicious lunch menu with great value.
Excellent food and excellent service. The food quality is much better than the previous owner. Guarantee you will love this place!
The lobster, mushroom beef, and garlic bean sprouts we had at this restaurant yesterday were very delicious.
Best lobster Ive ever eaten
