375 Bamburgh Cir, Scarborough, ON M1W 3Y1, Canada
Casual spot draws crowds for Chinese barbecue, including char siu, plus roast duck & dumplings.
Really og Chinese resto that's been around foreverrrr Where they lack in decor they make for in reasonably priced dishes with good portion sizes and tasty bbq Whether you choose to eat in or take out their famous Chinese BBQ pork and duck is a must to try. Their chicken wings are surprisingly good and even come with the tips! Service is good and personal, as mentioned atmosphere is dated and clientele is mostly Chinese aunties and uncles but that really shouldn't matter Definitely somewhere to try if in the area.
My first time back to this place in 25 yrs. And it’s better than ever. The ginger and green onion lobster was divine, very fresh, beautifully done. And the beef tenderloin was equally amazing. The service is not warm and fuzzy, I like that. I hate pretentious service. They are efficient, polite and are 100% focused on getting fresh, high quality food to your table. That’s their goal.
My first visit to this place was in 1990 and famous for BBQ pork and others. After 30+ years, Sam Woo still stands strong in Scarborough and must have a reason. We ordered two kinds BBQ meat platter (BBQ pork and roasted ducks), 2 deep fried soft-shell crabs, and vegetables in garlic sauce. The BBQ meat platter was very tasty and roasted just right. Soft-shell crabs came hot but delicious. Vegetables were also spot on. They also served hot soup before meal and fruits after the meal. Sam Woo has impressed with their fine food standard for so many years. We arrived at 6:30pm and still have table for us. By 7pm, all tables were taken. So be sure you come early or book in advance. The waiters can greet a lot of customers by their last name, and definitely very popular for repeated customers. There also have BBQ meat for take-out. However, the decor just needs refurbishment.
June 2024 Paid for 1.75 pound and only was served a small 1.25 at $20 It was not busy, so there was mo mix up in the kitchen. So many choices in the area and only frequent this restaurants because of walking distance to my friend's house. Beef with veggie was only ok. Old Waitress gave me attitude because i ask for hot water after she brought a pot of tea already. It was 5:15 pm and place was empty. Mini 1.75 pound talipia is on rhe right side ------------ My fish was overcooked again. But service was ok. Talipia 3/10 Please dont make my seafood well done @ $15 per pound for a basic fish. Soya sauce was too light in flavour to enhance the overcooked fish. Snowpeas leaves 7/10 too much MSG but passable. Use to like this place more but slipping a little. There are many other Cantonese restaurants within a 15 minute drive. Use to enjoy most of their BBQ items which we did not order that night. Dated decor but most come here for the food.
I was out with my aunt and uncle, assisting them with an errand and grabbing some lunch. We went to Sam Woo BBQ, a place I haven't been to in a very long time. Of course, we had a BBQ platter, consisting of BBQ Duck, Roast Pork, and Soya Chicken. We also had Cantonese Chow Mein, and Sticky Rice. It was all pretty good! Their food has always been decent, well above average, but their service has been hit or miss. You never know how it's going to be. This time it was pretty good. We finished the BBQ meats and I took home the balance of chow mein and rice to enjoy later.
A delicious dinner at Sam Woo. It's my first time visited this restaurant, they look like BBQ special place, their dishes surprised me! Very high standard n fresh ingredients. Especially the garoupa fish fry with assorted mushrooms, excellent! The fish fillets r good quality n fresh. The roasted penguin were so juicy n tasty, must order in advance. Service is excellent. My friend ordered the special dishes in advance, not the set menu. I saw many tables ordered steamed fish, I believe their fish are the top choice. Must order!
Excellent service - attentive, kind and helpful. Delicious authentic food - their BBQ items are tasty. We ordered the fried pork loin with spicy garlic, yeung chow fried rice, crunchy sweet & sour pork, fish fillet with sweet corn, young snow pea leaf with garlic. The whole meal was cooked very well. They do a great job. Wasn’t able to take photos of the other food items, we ate them too quickly. Vibe - simple but we felt very welcome and the wait staff were accommodating. They didn’t rush us when we had finished. It seems like the customers are regular old timers, people knew each other. Highly recommend.
Classic chinese restaurant franchise located in many North American cities. Good food and good portion sizes at affordable prices. My only request is that they renovate the restaurant to be a little more modern. They are usually busy, but you can get a table without reservations. I will return.
Get some help. Do you think it reflects well on you to be that rude? Genuinely sick women working here. Shameful and dishonorable. Worst service in the GTA by far.
An iconic place thats been around for many years, with one of the best BBQ meats in the GTA. This is one of the rare asian restaurants where youll still see the servers who have been around for years, wearing bow ties with quick and friendly service, and giving you that authentic HK feel (back in the day). Their Baby Pigeon is probably one of the best Ive had, juicy, big, and tender. Youll find at a lot of locations nowadays, they tend to come out tiny and dry. Their Peking Duck is on point as well, see photos for reference! Oh and by the way, you can expect complimentary Soup of the day for starters & Fruits for dessert. If youre searching up this place for a dinner spot, and havent been here before... What are you waiting for?!
Not worth it. So expensive. You can find cheaper ones in the area
Lately In Oct/24, I ordered a plate with BBQ Pork with noodle. When it came, I need to look for the BBQ pork !!! I asked the waiter to show me where is it, he said , this is what it is! Well, food n service both deserve the lowest star. The restaurant setting stay the same since 1990, the chair are rusty , the washroom is disgusting , etc
Service, food and price were all very good.
Been visiting Sam Woo since I was a kid and it remains to be my families favourite Chinese restaurant in the GTA. Always fresh, always delicious. Many options to suit all cravings. Highly recommend to those craving authentic, delicious Chinese cuisine.
Tasty HK food especially BBQ pork, nice service and environment; Tasty HK food especially BBQ pork, nice service and environment;
Don t come to this place if u speak Mandarin and don t speak Cantonese. ordered BBQ rice but they give u very small amount compared to all other places, rude and discriminating servers. But They treat Cantonese speakers very nicely
Expensive and small portions. Food is avg, lots of better options in Markham/Scarborough. Dont waste your time here.
Grades has been changed, sometimes too salty, not good. I dont know why. Old waitress give to attitude every time. Dont bother to go to these places, so many good places out there.
good bbQ place.
very bad service !! food is nothing different then other place . i told them i do not want the burnt corner . but they give me attitude and pushed me to pay for the part i will throw away . for sure NOT worth price . BBQ pork is twice price as other place . cheat me on price and portion . never go again . NOT recommand in any aspects .
Very disappointed with this long history Chinese BBQ restaurant. Roast Duck is dry and salty. BBQ pork although is tender but too much honey. And the steam free range-chicken is tasteless and the meat is too fluffy and doesn t taste like free range-chicken. This would be my last time visiting this place.
Im so mad! I drove all the way to buy a whole chicken and half a duck, and guess what? There were worms in the chicken! Its disgusting!
Very dissatisfied, the seafood red pork belly pot only has fish bones and some fish meat which is not worth 21$. The salted fish and chicken fried rice only has a salty taste
Not the best BBQ I have tasted around the neighborhood so far... All the vegetable dishes in pots we ordered were very bland, but the fish were too heavily seasoned. It is the first time I dont want to pack away the leftovers...
Go to Ho Ho BBQ instead it s 10x better and cheaper. To be fair, I went late at night. Probably the duck has been sitting there the entire day. But it was nasty.
I have been here many times and today I packed a portion of roasted duck and barbecued pork. I am really speechless! Dont come and eat! I said I wanted the barbecued pork to be fat and thin, but all I got was lean! The roasted duck rice was all bones. I felt like I was eating a duck rack. Ive eaten here no less than ten times and this time I was really disappointed.
Still maintain good old fashion cooking taste. !
A gem of a restaurant that has served generations of patrons. I always get char siu and roast belly by the pound here, and Im always happy with the quality. Granted its a a bit more expensive than other places, but its absolutely worth it. My only regret is not trying this place sooner.
Sam Woo has been around for decades and is truly a gem in GTA well loved by their long time customers. Their barbecues are famous beyond GTA as I know someone who regularly buys take-out roasted ducks here to bring all the way back to New York State. My partner and I live far away but we try to visit at least once a week as we really enjoy their authentic Chinese Cantonese cuisine following traditional recipes. For example unlike other restaurants, they don t cut corners by skipping some essential ingredients when making the Buddha vegetarian fried noodles. We also like their servers and manager who are friendly and treat everyone like their old friends.
Vol! ! ! Ginger and green onion oysters - so wet after being drained of oil Zhuhou Beef Brisket - sour from radish Bad fever - good, good, bad Tie the chicken breast on the bottom of the chicken (it doesn t matter, I will tie the top and bottom of the pair together, but these chickens are good shoes) Hot and sour soup tastes weird Because it s too hard to eat My net system is 10% better than before tax tips I listen to a cashier instantly than talking Pay $140 So prone There will definitely be no next time
The service attitude is very poor and they refuse to admit that they have a problem. The food is average and too expensive.
When I brought home the roast duck, the legs were gone.
Only been here for take out for the Chinese BBQ. Everything is decently price. The BBQ is top tier for Toronto, everything tastes great and the meats are always good quality. Their roasted duck is very well seasoned. Line ups for this place really says something. Have not had any of their dine in stuff. Parking: Busy parking lot as it is next to a supermarket and several other restaurants and shops.
Food was awesome but the main attraction had to be there winter Mellon. Anyone out there able verify exactly what kind of Mellon it was
My regularly visit Chinese restaurant in town. Food quality maintained. Large variety and good portion. Friendly Service is always there. Favorite Chinese restaurant in town. Friendly and great service. Excellent food, creative recommended menu. Very affordable price
Food was a bit on the salty side but very affordable and is a popular spot in the area for locals looking for authentic Chinese food. Menu has both Chinese and English.
The food is great ! They have been in business for a very long time.
Best bbq in town, very nice waiters, good food
Ive been eating from Sam Woo since I was a little girl when they were at the Alton Towers plaza. My dad would buy bbq pork from them for take out (fond memories =D) and ever since then, their bbq pork has always stood out from everyone elses in my heart. This Sam Woo at Bamburgh has been around throughout my childhood as well and they also make their bbq pork the same way till this day. I kid you not, Ive eaten bbq items at a lot of places now (i.e. many bbq places in Scarborough, Markham, Downtown, etc. and even in Taiwan as well as the Chinatowns in Montreal, New York City, and London, England) and Sam Woo is still first place when it comes to bbq pork. It is especially delicious if you request for half half ( ) meaning half fatty half lean so you would get a more marbled piece of bbq pork. Their bbq pork is tender, succulent, and has a tinge of honey and ginger flavour to it that nobody else has managed to rival till this day. A close second when it comes to delicious bbq pork is Hong Fatt BBQ in downtown Chinatown (on Dundas in between Spadina and University) as they have also mastered the art of making their bbq pork have a tinge of honey and ginger flavour to it. Aside from Sam Woos scrumptious bbq pork, a lot of their other dishes are also irresistibly delicious that I highly recommend. Their steamed chicken with vegetables ( ) is one of the best that Ive had (Chef 88 Oriental Cuisine being one of their only rivals) as they manage to make the chicken tender and juicy and the vegetables nice and crispy ( ). Their black cod steamed in black bean sauce will make you ask for more as the flavour just explodes in your mouth! It even inspired me to learn to make that sauce and to cook black cod using that method =D. Another memorable dish is their delicious steamed grouper tail dish. Youve seriously gotta try it out! When it comes to their crispy chicken dish, rest assured that the shrimp crackers that accompany it will be nice and crispy as opposed to sad and soggy. Their fried noodles dishes are also amongst the best as they have good wok hei (breath of the wok or ). Their stir fried rice noodles with beef ( and ) have a smoky flavour to them as they have good wok hei and the saucy one that includes vegetables (second one) also have vegetables that are crispy ( ) and cooked just right. Although the number of yummy dishes they churn out are endless, Ive gotta talk about some of their other aspects too lol. They recently stopped making dessert ( ) for some reason but they give out slices of fruits instead. As such, dont expect to get any red bean dessert, tofu pudding, mung bean dessert, etc. to wrap up your meal. Prior to Covid-19, they used to have a deal on their steamed Tilapia but the deal is gone now. As for the atmosphere, their restaurant has looked the same since the 90s, but if you are anything like me, you might prefer it to stay this way as its nostalgic. In regards to the service, its the type of service you would expect in a typical Chinese restaurant (fast and to the point, little to no pleasantries, etc.) so some people might perceive it as a lack of warmth. However, if youve grown up eating at Chinese restaurants of that generation, you wont find it to be anything alarming as you know that thats just how it is. TL;DR - I highly recommend this gem thats been around for decades as they have the best bbq pork and an endless list of other delicious dishes that will leave you asking for more. Dont expect Western style customer service and fancy elaborate decor though and you will not be disappointed.
One of the best bbq restaurants Weve been their regular patrons for decades (even during the covid shut down) Food
Just went there for lunch take out. I ordered BBQ pork with rice. The pork was cold as if it came out of storage from the day before. When I called to complain they hung up 3 times. The fourth time when I finally spoke to someone who deals with conplaints, I let them have it. Total disaster. Avoid it. They are petty and will get someone really sick one day. I was a long time customer. But not any more.
The cashier has a bad expression and attitude, and the food is mediocre
The food is good, but last week when I was there, one gave us a Dity Plant and gave us attitude and put that Dity Plant on Aouther Table
Avoid take out pickup. The food was ok, not sure if the portion/quality was lessened due to the cooks disapproval of me. Very judgmental takeout-counter cook. Apparently he WILL publicly shame adult daughters when their parent pays for their lunch. From other comments, sounds like he also vocally disapproves of people that cannot speak his language (maybe his expectation is, if you look Chinese you must speak it well?!?!). Its too bad because I used to love their food. Times are changing.
The rice was uncooked, super hard and taste raw. But the service was the most upsetting part. Cantonese servers only treat their people nicely. Our server was extremely rude, while serving food, she almost spilled every single dish, and when we asked her to bring anything, you could tell that she was extremely reluctant to do so and was giving us attitude the entire time. At the end we gave 5% tips and they came out to ask us for more. We explained why we didn t want to provide more tips and they started yelling at us. Was such an upsetting experience will never ever come again.
Food is good and reasonably priced. Service is excellent. All the servers have been working here for years.
Sam Woo is a long-standing BBQ and Cantonese stir-fry full service restaurant that has seen subtle changes over the years. There is a dedicated counter for take-out, but the dining room is cramped in layout and the staff seem overly dressed up. Anyhow, they deserve kudos for taking credit and debit cards - a rarity for restaurants of its kind - and the prices are reasonable for the food quality.
Found this in my noodles
Always come here when my family and I feel like eating Chinese BBQ meat. A chinese restaurant with long history. BBQ food is delicious with good portion. Just one little drawback is that this restaurant is very packed. Especially during peak hours, it is very hard to get a server to take order. Overall is great, will come back often.
I have been a loyal customer for 24 years! The best BBQ pork ever! Fast service, great food and awesome staff!
The service attitude of the front desk staff is extremely bad, especially for non-Cantonese speakers. They don t provide utensils when ordering takeout. It s a bad review. If you don t want to run a good store, get out of here.
Decor is what you would expect in a Chinese restaurant located in Scarborough. Tea was ok, not the best. Dishes were too salty, and some dishes contained MSG.
Food are great, BBQ pork very tasty Fresh steam fish cooked just in time. Food
Food so salty
Avoid this restaurant at all costs. My grandpa actually works here and the owner is extremely unfair and selfish. His employees, the ones that actually stand and make your food for 12hours a day get paid minimum wage with absolutely NO BREAKS. This restaurant also does not follow any code of conduct and food is extremely dirty. Terrible owner, Workers overworked, Unsanitary, Bad service. DO NOT BUY FROM HERE AND AVIOD AT ALL COSTS!! SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY.
Not what it used to be in terms of quality n price. Good bbq
If I could give this restaurant zero stars I absolutely would. Picked up some take out on the way home after heading to a barber shop in the area. HUGE HUGE MISTAKE. Grabbed two dishes because I wanted my GF to get a break from cooking tonight. Dropped about $40 on two dishes but never going to come back again. In addition, going to tell all my friends to avoid that place too. Portion size was minimal. Taste was so so. My dish - the brisket was actually mainly FAT. I m Chinese & I know what brisket should taste like. My gf got the chicken & black bean sauce. The container was like barely half full. Nothing to write home about. After the pandemic I thought it was good to support local businesses. But lesson learned tonight. I was in a rush & made a huge mistake. No doubt, after a few bites, I began to get a weird headache. No doubt the dreaded msg. I blame myself initially but I want to avoid anyone else from making this huge mistake. AVOID SAM WOO BBG PLEASE. (There is a McDonald s in the same plaza. Truth be told, I know for a fact, a burger & fries from there, would have been a better decision in comparison to this Chinese restaurant.)
A very bad experience. Because I was in a hurry, I ordered fried rice and fried noodles. I wanted to leave after eating, so I settled the bill in advance. However, the waiter said that there must be a tip, even if it is a sit-down lunch, even if it is only one yuan. , and even called many people to make noise around me. If I don t pay, I won t have any fun. It s like robbery. Shouldn t tipping be voluntary? Why is it enforced? Finally, I was forced to pack up and leave. A group of low-quality people who rob and beg for food
Sam Woo is one of the best Chinese restaurants in Toronto. It s been around for decades and it s still packed for dinner. I go with my family at least a couple of times each month for classics like their soft-shell crab, BBQ pork, snow pea greens, and Peking duck on special occasions. The staff are welcoming and complete pros. Vegetarian options: Snow pea leaves with garlic is great
The food is very heavy and salty. If possible, try to ask to sit inside instead of sitting by the door, as it is very cold. The mandatory tip is disgusting. After the meal, the bill after tax was 102, so I gave an extra tip of 110. Then the front desk insists that 10% must be tipped, so if you require guests to tip 10%, post it on the door, Dont come if you dont tip 10%. You sit there and no one cares about you and you have to contact the waiter yourself, so go ahead and try the mandatory tipping here. I don t know if the police will be called if they are not allowed to leave due to mandatory tipping. ?
After eating there for many years, we feel that this is the best old-fashioned barbecue restaurant in Toronto, especially its roast pork, which is the best I have ever tasted.
I recently visited Scarborough staple, Sam Woo and was thoroughly impressed by the fast service and delicious food. The servers were efficient and attentive. As for the food, it was truly outstanding. I sampled a variety of dishes and every single one was cooked to perfection. The flavors were bold and the portion sizes were acceptable. Overall, I highly recommend Sam Woo. The fast service and delicious food make it a standout dining destination. If youre in the area, be sure to give it a try - you wont be disappointed! Vegetarian options: Choices available on menu Dietary restrictions: Lots of choices on menu Parking: Huge lot Wheelchair accessibility: Parking and business accessible
Nice n quiet in the morning, friendly service but food is ordinary.
Great BBQ food
Neighbourhood staple known for their excellent Chinese BBQ, but don t sleep on their other menu items either! Through the many years my family has been coming here, their food has been consistently tasty, service friendly and prices affordable. A must-go whenever we re in the area.
Got bait and switched! Beware! After checking out the roast pork in the display window which looked fresh enough, I asked for 2 rib portions of meat in English. I could not see the selected ribs being chopped as the servers back was towards me. Paid, then went home and opened the container and discovered that I didnt get the fresh-looking roast pork but instead I got day old looking roast pork which was also lukewarm and cold. Went back to confront them but they denied it. I just wanted to let them know that I know what they did and to share my experience with others. Will never go back there again!
Good
A traditional Chinese restaurant over 40 years, it has the best BBQ pork and roast duck, they have lots of different dishes, mainly Cantonese dishes and most of them are tasteful.
The turkey duck and barbecued pork are all on point!
Great food!
Sooo delicious! A beautiful sharing experience
Best ever
Foods great..services good which attracts customers love specific Chinese food.
Really good Peking duck! The waiters were friendly and one of them was humming a song while serving, you could tell he was happy and it really improved the service. The duck skin was crispy, and the fat tasted clean. They also gave us some complimentary melon slices at the end!
Service is quick. Food is amazing 5/5
Went to Sam Woo BBQ at Bamburg Circle location for dinner. Ordered 4 sharing dishes....Rice Noodles W/Beef in Black Bean Sauce, Lemon Chicken, Ying & Yang (Sweet & Sour Chicken/Shrimp Cream Sauce on Fried Rice, Curry Chicken). All Very good and tasty.
Take out service very rude. Dine in experience is okay. Nothing special.
Old style Chinese Food and taste BBQ
Have been coming here for 30 years. Reasonably priced menu. Reliable and consistent food quality. Generous portion. Excellent BBQ duck and BBQ pork.
Good!!!
I have been eating this barbecue restaurant for more than ten years and highly recommend it.
Rice and BBQ pork is good there and the staff are really nice.
A bit long time waiting for table, but our server is very friendly and attentive. Complimentary soup taste good, BBQ pork a bit lean, but still very tasty, steam minced pork with salted fish is also recommended, too bad I didnt order plain white rice.
Loved it. The combos are great for groups. Great value, and all the dishes we got were very tasty. The servers were kind to us
Been eating here for 20+ years, the food is always excellent and tasty
This place used to be the go to for Chinese bbq, not anymore. Gave it another chance after a poor experience last year and was even more disappointed. Gave the smallest portions of bony bbq duck and lean bbq pork. These guys will do that to you if you dont ask, whereas other bbq shops will find you the best pieces. Too many other bbq restos with bigger, tastier and better service.
Absolutely an extraordinary experience, get extra protein! I would like to wish all the staff of Sanhe BBQ a prosperous and prosperous family!
as bad as it can get, rude service, food taste much worse than a few years ago
CRISPY.SKIN.PORK.
Sam Woo is a longstanding institution in Scarborough that has been serving Cantonese food for decades. Theyre known for their roast meat but their large menu is pretty consistent too. The food has good wok hei and the food is always fresh. They also make their own chinese preserved sausages (lap cheong) including a pork liver sausage which is difficult to find since most liver sausages uses duck liver. Portions and prices are fair, food is always fresh and the service is efficient. The flavours are pretty good but can sometimes be overly salty in my opinion. Theyre still quite old school which I appreciate, as they serve the house soup and cut fruit with your meal.
Pricer than a lot of places, while providing less portions. Its not making sense, people shouldn stop going here
Today I went to Sanhe BBQ and bought some fried glutinous rice. When I got home, I opened it and saw the ingredients: a few grains of super fine grained barbecued pork, three to four small dried shrimps, and a few shredded scrambled eggs on top. The meal costs 16 yuan, which is far different from the previous ones. Even a few peanuts are missing. I won t pay for it next time. It s too much!
Spectacular! theyre hot and sour soup is my favorite! This is the first place that introduced me to Chinese food growing up.
Low prices, amazing taste Ngl this is better than the places that are 2 times more expensive
Food is very good but service is just so so. There s not too Chinese restaurant interior design at this place. But hey, sometimes I m just there for the food. Kid-friendliness: Of course.
Reliable, friendly eatery. Reasonably priced, good quality food and generous portions!
Authentic Cantonese cuisine in typical southern Chinese atmosphere. Good food value. Vegetarian options: Easy option to select. Parking: Ample surface parking.
Really good authentic Chinese food. The prices are fair and the portions are large. I havent had a dish there I havent liked. Their Chinese BBQ menu is some of the best Ive had in Canada. The staff are friendly and efficient with some of them being there waiting tables for over 20 years. Parking: Usually spots by the entrance are full and you have to park further away. The food is worth the added few steps...
Been coming here for 20+ years with the same high quality, friendly serviced spot, their char siu is still our family favorites.
Very good Chinese bbq , never stale . Good quality for a fair price . They give you a lot of rice , I order the small which I still have leftover rice . The roasted duck is my favorite ! At lunch it s quite busy .
Very poor service. There were bugs in the porridge.
MD drank three bowls of porridge and then found that there were bugs in the porridge. The waiter said that they flew in
This sam woo bbq is cheating my barbacue pork, they exchanged my pork rib when they chopped with other parts and give a bad parts of meat for me and when I home see no pork ribs at all he chop the meat only look good on the top, hope everyone check when you buy from them.
Always a pleasant experience. Ive been going and taking visitors here since the 80s. Vegetarian options: Family.ily friendly.... Dietary restrictions: I think there is enough to eat, even by the fussiest of diners. Parking: Wheelchair accessibility:
Amazing tasty food at really good prices. Food is ordered family style, where the table shares each dish. One of the best Asian food restaurants. Yeung Chow fried rice is one of the best Ive had.
You can get authentic Cantonese food, also expect the authentic level of service quality - not me being stereotyping but HK diners service style is known as being direct. Wasnt quite a pleasant experience but their BBQ pork was really good. Only in the end they refused to offer an extra chili oil sauce while paying for the bill. Homey ambiance. You could see many families coming here so that speaks to the food. Just dont hold high expectation for their service and youd probably enjoy much more. Food (quality, presentation) - 4/5 Drinks (quality, variety) - 3/5 Ambience (interior, cleanness) - 3/5 Service - 1/5 Value - 3/5
One of the best restaurants I have experienced since I came to Toronto in 2015, now I am in UK but I still missed a lot.
Ordering takeout and paying extra for the double-leg rice didnt even have a single piece of meat.
Really good bbq pork and roast pork!!
The old taste in my memory. I first tasted it in 1990. It is very Hong Kong. Over the years, it has hardly changed much. It is a taste that is not even available in Hong Kong. From the early days to the present, it has always been an important dining base for Chinese in Toronto. It is highly recommended.
This is one of my favorite HK-style restaurants. Service is good, like the old traditional HK way. They have a big menu, the food is very good and authentic! Kid-friendliness: The restaurant is kid-friendly.
I bought a roast goose on purpose. It was really bad. It felt like the roast duck I bought in the supermarket. It had no taste and I couldn t eat it without the sauce.
Ive eat here every time I visit Scarborough, Im from Calgary. Have always enjoyed the food. The one bad experience I had this time was the plates and cutlery were not washed properly and you could see the grease on what should of been a clean plate. I will still go back there back and sorry for a bit of a bad review, please just clean up better for a higher rating. Thanks.
Still the best char siu and BBQ duck! Roast pork was lovely with sweet crisp skin. Veggies were fresh. There was a lineup for BBQ takeout orders, but not for lunch seating. Will always stop here when. In North York. Parking: Mall parking.
Good bbq pork and roast pork
The food was terrible, I took a bite of the bbq pork and it was salty, and with a bunch of black sauce that make the entire rice wet and salty . for $13 dish you can buy better quality food than this restaurant (overpriced)
Sam Woo has been around for as long as I could remember. I used to get takeout from them 20+ years ago for those big Chinese family gatherings. These days, I usually go there for lunch with my mom, who almost only eat Cantonese food. The food at Sam Woo is authentic Cantonese, very consistent, very yummy, and reasonably priced. The staffs are also friendly and have all have this traditional waiter look , all dressed in black and white. I enjoy every visit to Sam Woo and hope they will continue to stay in business in the years to come. I can tell they have a lot of frequent customers, whom they know personally. I d recommend this place. We especially love their pan-fried vermicelli
Really rude experience. I ordered food to go and the counter staff and BBQ chef had no patience and even made fun of me in Chinese since I spoke English. I warn other customers who come here to be careful as the BBQ duck I got was all bone and had a funky smell.
Even if the food spoiled several times, it was still served to the guests. Those immoral people should have no children or grandchildren.
Has been in business for many years. Lots of regulars. Enjoyed the Soya Sauce chicken, braised garoupa & bean curd, and wonton noodle soup. We also enjoyed a few other dishes. There is a large menu with many choices of dishes. Something for everyone. Lots of free parking. The service was good.
Sam woo is an establishment thats probably been around for 30 years, and for a good reason. They offer delicious authentic Chinese BBQ at a great price. Only downside is theyre a little.understaffed.
Value of Cantonese cuisine. Nice environment
It has been an amazing Chinese food at an accessible location without a car. Food quality is consistent and the servers are very professional and responsive. If you are a fan of , this restaurant is a good option.
When I went to buy takeout two days ago, I saw rice dumplings for sale at the front desk and bought four rice dumplings. I cooked them the next day and found that the rice dumplings were sour. I showed them one rice dumpling in the store and changed it. One roasted chicken leg, but when I got home, I threw the three in the refrigerator into the trash.
Always get the bbq pork with extra sauce
The food is very delicious. Mmmmm
The take-out is so hard to eat, and the roast pork is so fatty and crumbly and soggy. I have never seen it that bad. The roast pork is also worse than others. I will never look back and buy roast pork elsewhere in the future. Very bad BBQ pork and roast pork take-out, worst BBQ takeout in GTA. Wasted all the time to drive there after work. Will simply go to Congee Queen to get BBQ takeout next time.
Ive been going to their franchise even when they had a location in Alton towers in the 90s and now to this location at Bamburg. We typically get take out but once in awhile we dine in. Service is pretty good, atmosphere is dated but you kinda dont mind it for the food. Its still one of the best for me, could be because I grew up on it. 30 years strong and Ill continue to go.
I love this place!! The food at this place is incomparable. My relatives and I who live in the west end drive to Scarborough for special occasions because we cant get this kind of food in our area.
A good place for Cantonese food and yellow chicken. I like the take out options! Get the tomato and beef it tastes like ketchup and beef. You know this place is good when the service is slow and the table cloth is disposable and plastic. The meal for 4 can feed an army.
Fantastic spot for Canto dinner
My favorite restaurant in Gta. Loved their bbq platter. Food is cheap and tasty. Food
Tried this place out with my cousin and we had a feast! The food came out so speedy and tasted amazing. The portions were also huge for a great price. The best part of this place is their Chinese BBQ- roasted pork, bbq pork, duck, soy chicken everything was delicious! Might be my newest spot for Chinese bbq! Definitely worth it!
Very disappointed. The pork belly and barbecued pork we bought today are as shown in the picture. The pork belly was just a thin slice, with a little bit of lean meat, and a lot of it was burnt. The barbecued pork was cut very thick, and we still have to go home. Cut again
Very tasty bbq pork along with good priced lunch dishes
Dependable and reliable BBQ dining as proven over decades.
The discrepancy was so great that the stir-fried dishes were clearly priced at 13 cents, but they insisted on charging 15 cents when checking out, saying the dishes were different. If this is the case, the waiter must explain it clearly before placing the order. The service attitude is also very bad. The food is taken away before the meal is finished without asking if it is okay... In short, it is just relying on good business to act randomly.
Best bbq! Other food is also great!
Very good food and good price
The coffee is the best among all Chinese restaurant I tried. BBQ meat is overrated, but ok The rest of the food is good.
Tasty Chinese BBQ place, cheap take out. Minimum $20 for debit/credit payment. BBQ pork on rice was delicious.
The best barbecue restaurant in Toronto. The barbecued pork rice is my favorite. The barbecue chef and the cashier lady are also very polite.
I recommend this Old Cantonese Chinese - Hong Kong cooking style dining restaurant. ( book before going, to secure your seats) The dishes are fantastic and reasonablly priced. The waitress are experienced. The BBQ takeout are taste much different from American-Chinese BBQ, and can find huge different from those Chinese supper-markets BBQ. I think this place is a very few left in Toronto that operated in old cooking style.
Food tastes great!
Food still taste very good. Love eating here definitely try out the BBQ. Peking ducks good too
Best Chinese bbq gta !!! BBQ pork, and duck is amazing!!!!
There are many choices on the menu. Food is usually very tasty and fresh. A very popular spot. Front staff are friendly. And appears to be clean. I have been going here as my regular spot for Asian cuisine. Pricing is okay, parking can be difficult to find a close spot due to a busy plaza.
Good portion and flavour, fairly price.
Excellent flavors of food... You will not be disappointed. And lots of variety of dishes.
Good price but food was nothing special just satisfactory
I usually go for the BBQ Pork which I think is really good here. I haven t tried much of their other food but I m sure I will one day and will report back once I do.
I just bought a roast duck today. When I got home 10 minutes later, the roast duck was cold, just like the one in the refrigerator. I called to inquire and they replied that it would be better if I heated it with a micro boiler. I was speechless. This was my first time in Toronto. A thunderbolt. accurate.
This Chinese BBQ restaurant is a long term fixture in Scarborough, consistently great quality and service over the many many years. Featuring all the Cantonese favourites, congee, noodle, rice and stir-fried dishes, family sized portions at reasonable prices.
Food arrived fast after order is placed
Consistent and great food.
Great Asian BBQ
Easily best BBQ meats in town!
Great BBQ duck and tofu!
This restaurant never fails to satisfy with its bbq meat selection and other dishes. Low key, laid back vibe, efficient service and simply good food.
good food. reasonable price.
