23 Glen Watford Dr, Scarborough, ON M1S 2B7, Canada
You come to dragon centre for one thing only, fried chicken from the only surviving food court stall. The whole building is on its last legs, and this is the only business still thriving. You will be missed when the end finally comes. Thank you for the memories. I hope the memories of a bustling Dragon Centre lives on for those who use to frequent this iconic mall.
Don't be fooled by the surroundings, it's not esthetically pleasing, but the food is good! Known to most as #44! The fried chicken on fried rice is their best seller. Hence, #44 on the menu. Used to be a super cheap 8 bucks! Now it's 15.50. Can still feed a family of 3 twice! Not everything is glittering gold people. So don't be put off when you walk in here.
I used to live around the area and remembered when Dragon Centre was lively with other shops and restaurants. I'm surprised that despite all the hardships throughout the years, Hung Food has continued to be in business. After 10+ years since having their famous chicken fried rice, I decided to come back and visit. I was met with a lot of surprise, nostalgia and sadness. Hung Food is the only restaurant that persists in the food court area. The other two food booths have become storage. It was only the lady at the front and one chef. The menu is completely non-existent. I'm pretty sure you can only order pork/chicken fried rice with exceptions to the fried squid and other more costly dishes. They only take cash so we came prepared. I felt sad, feeling like they deserved more - a new place to cook, more traction, and a cleaner dining area. The tables LOOK sticky and the walls are met with holes and burn marks. If you're going to visit, don't expect customer service. I've seen some reviews talking about it but that's just how they've always done business for as long as I can remember. ONTO THE FOOD - Exactly the same as I remember when I was a kid. I was super excited and enjoyed the same tastes of both the chicken and pork. They cook the fried rice a certain way and it definitely brought back memories. I'm not sure if it's worth the trip but definitely a good place to stop by when you're in the area and want some Chinese food.
This small but popular for mostly takeouts has been in existence for 4 decades since the early '80s. Located inside the Dragon Centre at 23 Glen Watford Dr Scarborough, ON, with only less than 5 stores now open will likely all be closed down when the building gets demolished to make way for a highrise condo. The prices has almost tripled compared to 20 years ago but the large servings make up the cost (almost). Deep fried calamari is way to expensive to order. It will be sad to see this place shut down but time marches on and the owners will likely retire into the sunset once the order to vacate by the landlord/developers is handed to the remaining tenants.
One of the last chicken fried rice restaurants in dragon center and a classic restaurant. Chicken is good as always but it is a lot more expensive than it was years ago. Staff is friendly and accommodating. There hasn't been any dine-in here since the pandemic, but why would you do that? Pro-tip get take out and eat at a park or at home. Other than that I still think it always consistently tastes good and I recommend the fried chicken on rice
Came here after watching the viral video about chicken steak rice. Food was mediocre and customer service was non existent. The entire plaza is falling apart - moldy walls, holes in roof/ceiling, etc. "Food court" consists of this one running stall and it's in a poorly light and run down corner - signage saying you can't eat there. Not sure how any of the stores are even up to code.
#44 - don’t believe all the hype you see on insta or tiktok, it’s not good, not bad either. Chicken is unevenly seasoned, some part is salty some tasted like burnt cooking oil. It wasn’t overly greasy like one would expect, which is good. Place really looked sketchy and dirty and didnt seem like it would get a permit to serve food. $17.50 (tax included) for a generous amount. I can tell people only comes back for nostalgic reasons.
Located inside Dragon Centre, this is one of those IYKYK kind of places. Randomly stumbled upon this place while trying to look for a dessert spot around the area. The mall is very run down as I've heard they're demolishing the building for condos. I asked someone waiting for their food how this place was and they said they've been a customer since high school and now they're 40! I ordered the must try #44 for $16 and it was exactly what I expected. Generous portion of chicken and fried rice. The chicken was delicious and juicy. The fried rice was a bit plain, but everyone else recommended to get some chilli oil so I did the same and it definitely made it more tasty. They also serve party platters of #44 for $60. This hole in the wall isn't for everyone. I'd come back.
Food is always good. Been coming here since I was a teen now I have a teen of my own. Fried rice with fried chicken is %.
Unhygienic dirty place. Hidden gem needs to be hidden...stay away
Hung Food Cooking takes me on a nostalgic journey back to my childhood. The flavors and textures of their dishes evoke cherished memories of simpler times. My go-to is always combo #44, which never disappoints. Each bite feels like a warm hug from the past, making Hung Food Cooking a special place for reliving those fond memories while enjoying consistently excellent food and the filipino party I always used to go to.
Been coming here since I was a kid. They make the best food and have the best prices.
#44 Chicken Fried Rice is it! BEST CHICKEN FRIED RICE IN THE CITY. Nuff said
Ordered a small tray of their infamous chicken fried steak on rice. On the phone I was told 55, on pickup they told me 75 and then they lowered the price from 75 to 65. Cash only. Couldn t even look me in the eye lying to my face. Chinese Feast is way better than this place.
Been going to this place 30+ years! I was here yesterday and the prices blew me away!! The price now for Fried chicken only is $60. The price for fried squid tentacles is now $50. Mind you this is only the take out container not a party tray!! I can t justify the price tag to keep going to this once lovely place.
Its the legendary chicken fried rice!! Best I used to come here back in 2003. Very nostalgic place the food hasnt changed and the place havent changed too!
#44 Thats all you need to know
This place (physically) tanked post pandemic but somehow is still open and serving the fried food we all still remember and love. The mall and food court - if you can call it that- is beyond delapitated. Buckets everywhere to catch leaking water, holes in the literally ceiling, birds flying in and out of the roof, closed up hoarders shops, etc. Sad that the egg waffle shop closed up too. Food wise: still the same. #44 chicken and rice is now $13.50 on the menu yet we were charged $34 for 2 orders lmao. Some things never change.
50 dollars for the smallest size of fried chicken... Not worth it!!!
Lady on the phone is completely rude and the one is taking the orders for the chicken is majorly rude, but the food is absolutely outstanding
This Hung Food Cooking takeout counter is the lone survivor in this ghost mall Dragon centre. The mall is in serious disrepair, and I dont think the property owner cares about fixing anything. Most of the stores here look like a bunch of junk collections. Not sure how they are able to pay rent. Well the combo 44 crispy fried chicken on fried rice is the most popular item on the menu. The price has gone up significantly over the years and unfortunately eroded the value perspective. But we wanted to experience nostalgic fried chicken steak on a bed of rice. At $16 a box it is now hovering in moderately expensive territory. This box could feed about 2 people. Go try it out. You need to go to the back of the mall and its on the left side. Someone needs to clean up this mall. At least the employees wore gloves when handling the chicken.
By far one of the sketchiest places I have ever ordered food. Just because this mall looks like it could collapse at any moment does not mean this little restaurant cant cook. You know you come here for no. 44 although they raised their price from 14$ ish to 17$ the amount of food you get here is absolutely insane. My arm got a work out carrying out my meal. There was almost 6 servings of rice and 2 full cutlets. These boneless chicken cutlets were delicious. The oil they used must have absorbed so much flavor that at this point you can eat anything it cooks. I recommend this place when you trying to have 4 meals for the price of 1.
Although it has a well-recommended dish, fried chicken, with very good flavor and quality, the owners are grumpy and not very friendly, the place is not clean and looks a little run down. Parking: Enough
Very filthy . . . and now expensive.
Stall 3. The legendary Fried Chicken on rice. Since the 90s.
if you know, you know.
The lady is rude but you don t come here for the service. You come here for their #44 fried chicken on rice because the chicken is crispy, juicy, and delicious. The prices have gone up but the portions are still massive. Great food!
I have always been going to this place for years and food hasnt changed since.
We keep coming back to Mommys Chicken Fried Rice!
Not tasty. Huge portion and expensive. Not worth the quality. If its for quantity its good.
Five Star for the Food. But it is very expensive now. The chicken lady is very rude. Her business is still standing because of the Filipino community. Take away the Filipino customer, her business is done. Dont be rude to your customer, they are the one giving you business.
$14 for fried chicken and fried rice is not worth. Price went up 40%!!!
Hung Food Cooking is still there! While Dragon Center has seen better years in its dilapidated state this institution still goes on. Although they have had to increase prices over the years as with everyone else, this staple of family parties (tray of number 44) remains unchanged. It was rumors I had heard of that talked about this place existing and different ways to get in. I went in on a Monday early afternoon (March 14, 2022) through the regular entrance/exit. It wasnt particularly busy, but seemed a steady stream of customers coming in mainly for this place. Ill definately be coming back to try other items other than the famous 44 next time.
Okay, limited choice.
Great taste food with quick and fast service. Parking is available easily around.
#44 Deep Fried Chicken cutlet on fried rice ... You can smell the greasy oil goodness! LOL!!! Buy it before they closed down Dragon Centre and build condos.
Its good
Forever a Scarborough Gem! The best chicken fried rice anywhere in the city. The last of the stores open in this mall. So glad they are still doing well n running.
Going here for 25yrs + Best fried chicken and rice spot. Huge portions.
Stale and oily
The crispy chicken is to die for and I d buy it once a week if I lived closer. My family of three orders 2 so we can have it for two meals. They put so much chicken in the box. Make sure you ask for containers for the sauce at the cash.
Good pork chop and chicken fried rice.
Im only giving one star because of how rude the old lady was, I truly didnt understand what she said. I was so turned off that I didnt care what she gave me..I got out of there so quickly. Its too bad because they were the only ones open, youd think they would be nicer..never ever going back....dont care if the food is good.
The best chicken and rice you can get for$10!!! Simple and easy. Tasty tasty stuff and enough rice for at least two days of leftovers! One combo #44 is big enough for two people and we tore in to that!! Sad to see them go cuz they are tearing down the plaza for a condo or something. Hopefully they set up someplace close!!
Go there for the nostalgia, but prices are way to jacked up.
The Battle of Fried Chicken is alive at Dragon Centre in Scarborough: Hung Food Cooking Limited A few months ago, after hearing this place from Johnny Cheat Day Every Day L. on the DK Lo live chat, I finally went and tried Hung Food and ordered their most famous dish on the menu: the Nbr 44 Chicken Fried Rice. Not sure why I never heard of Hung Food before (I must have been living under a rock). Them and their food court counterparts have been famous for inexpensive Chinese dishes at Dragon Centre for so many years. I could have went there so many times had I known they existed instead of always buying takeout at the Market Village food court every weekend that will last me a week back when I was living in the land of lack of Asian food aka Guelph Was told by many that this place is quite rundown since it is about to close down so I expected to walk in to a very dead and empty mall but it turns out a lot of stores are still open. Goodies Noodle House also moved on the other side of the mall. My first impression overall: It aint as ghetto and rundown as people make it seemed so it wasnt as scary as I thought I ordered the fried chicken rice for $10. This was made fresh and it was ready in five minutes. As I waited, a few people came and also ordered the same thing Verdict: Portion size is huge as it comes with two large pieces of chicken cutlet and lots of rice. This dish can easily be shared with 4 to 5 people and for $10, that is a steal! I showed it to my brother and he questioned whether the chicken is real as all this just costs $10 Taste wise, the chicken lacks taste though it wasnt oily. Rice itself was just basically stir fried with soy sauce, with only one tiny piece of egg. Definitely should not be called fried rice lol. This is why I highly suggest to get their chili oil that is available at the counter. Just ask for a container and scoop up some of their delish chili oil to go. I also did tried their pork fried rice and it was a little bit disappointing so stick with the chicken. My friend didnt want as much rice and they offered to replace it with some Shanghai Noodles but she declined. Please do pay them a visit before this building is torn down for good. I did asked them when will their place closed down and the lady said she has no idea. They speak Cantonese and English and you can always call in and preorder your food in advance over the phone. Stay tuned for my future post when I review the other famous fried chicken rice in the building at Goodies Noodle House ---------- Hung Food Cooking 23 Glen Watford Dr Scarborough, ON 416-297-602
I think the whole building is closed
Food is great! The place was closed for some time. Did they move somewhere?
Too expensive nowadays. Price on the menu is less than the actual price .
Very good food but the price went up
Huge portions of food. Taste was all right. A gem in Scarborough nevertheless and should support them by making a visit to this hole in the wall.
Food has always constantly been consistent with good taste and quantity!
Commonly Known as Dragon Centre Chicken, this place has been our favourite and I been going here since I was a kid. We usually order #44. Chicken only. Rice is good when new, but gets too hard after a day. #1- Fried squid is good too. Restaurant is 5 star but location needs a revamp.
Too expensive now..!!!$14 ? For chicken fried rice ? No way and the lady is rude!! This is the only chinese fast food without chinese costumer?!
Best Crispy chicken!
Been going here since I was a kid, getting swimming lessons at the Agincourt community centre. The quality of the food has never gone bad, like, ever; and their chicken fried rice is honestly legendary. If you STILL havent been to the formerly hustle and bustle location which is Dragon Centre and ordered chicken fried rice here, youre really going to regret what youre missing out on.
Get Squid tentacles and fish with bitter melon!!! Id give more stars if i could.
I always buy their fried chicken fried rice. The fried chicken are crispy outside juicy inside and fried rice is so tasty as well.
Still number 1 in CHICKEN FRIED RICE the best
Affordable chicken fried rice yummy yummy by manang intsik.
They have the best Fried Chicken on Fried rice! Anyone whos lived in Scarborough for a while knows this.
Its grimy, and a bit scary, but a total gem of an institution that has fed countless students and workers for over 20 years. The #44 is the hands-down the favourite of people here: Crispy Fried Chicken with Fried Rice. The thing is, to be honest, the food quality is just OK. The fried rice is super dry and you need to really douse it with some sauce, or eat it immediately there and then. So in all other aspects, the food here would normally just get a 3-star. But it is quite tasty and it is an absolute institution for locals, that I bump it up a star. Also the people who own it are interesting, apparently theyre Chinese from Belize, so they have their own dialect (trust me, I tried a few standard Chinese language variants and it didnt work - youre better off sticking with English). Its truly the story of hardworking first gen immigrants. The whole unit is surreal. You should visit before the mall gets taken down
Not the nicest place but Combo Number 44 so yummy yummy. Been coming here for years.
The place is greasy but that fried chicken is great.
Crispy chicken fried rice at its finest. Taste the same way as i remember it over 20 years ago. Great taste and value. Definitely a hidden gem in Scarborough.
If you want something greasy and delicious that will actually fill you up, and you dont really care about the state of the store, this is the place for you. Ive been coming here since my family moved to Canada 17 years ago. I dont even live in Scarborough anymore but I always go out of my way to get some of that delicious chicken fried rice any time I visit the GTA.
Very good portions for a very reasonable price. Cantonese Chow Mein is my favorite.
Squid platter was amazing!
Best chicken fried rice!!
Good food
Long live HFCL. If you re eating there for the first time would recommend getting number 44 (crispy fried chicken and fried rice) you ll thank me later.
Lady was rude and had no sense of customer service. I recommend going to Goodies Noodles House in the same plaza. Fried chicken was way better.
well
Hole in the wall but food is cheap and very good. Portions are very generous for the take aways.
I advice anyone who buys food here to be aware. Lady tries to over charge. $20.00 plus tax is $22.60. She charged $23.00. Not the first time. Other time I was charged $1 more.
The lady at the counter is very rude . The food is late even when you order it ahead. Ignore this place . Also trying to be tricky and overcharge you for the food .
