Happy 40th! Went for a late lunch and just missed the time for lunch specials. So instead, we ordered Halibut & chips a la carte, with a side of gravy. Good stuff! Restaurant has a cute takeout window. Inside is a very cozy ambiance, with a few old golf clubs as decoration. The girlfriend can’t wait to go back!
Wanted to try here because I keep hearing about it. My usual places are jaspers and duckworths. This place is not better. Halibut was not bad crispy and moist. My gf had haddock the batter was a bit thicker on her piece and the haddock was kinda mushy and a bit fishy. I got the platter with shrimps and scallops. The breading on these were very thick and sadly The scallops were not whole definitey cut in half so advertised as 3 scallops I received 1.5. The fries were nice and the gravy was good. Overall decent I may return. I will not order shrimp and scallops again.
I had this place saved in my want to go list for the longest and what a disappointment when I finally got a chance to stop by. I got the halibut and chips. The portion was way small on this little plate. Paper thin no flavour, fries were below average. That was almost $30. The place is small and clean, service was good but overall very unimpressed. Unfortunately this first impression will probably lead me not to return.
My wife and I decided to come and give St. Andrews a try. We both had never been here before, but we both love fish and chips and we knew of them by the reputation from others in the Scarborough area. Everyone had always said great things about their food, so we made the trip and we were not disappointed that we did. This place is set up in a very smart fashion. I was impressed by the simple set up of a takeout window on your way into the restaurant. This is not a common thing anymore and works well for pickups by food delivery companies and call ins or if you just want to get it on the go. The interior was nicely done and felt comfortable, with staff being very friendly and welcoming. We both ordered Halibut and Chips as that is our favorite and they did a great job with it. The fish was cooked perfectly and was very tender with the batter crispy and fried just right. The chips were fresh cut which is a huge plus, as a lot of places just don’t take the time to do this and the difference is night and day. The whole meal hit the spot and both of us felt completely satisfied by what we just ate. This place totally lives up to the hype and we both would recommend to anyone looking for great fish and chips, to swing by and give them a try….. You won’t be disappointed you did. We will definitely be back.
My photo does not do any justice to how generous their portion sizes are. This has been a true gem in our neighbourhood. And our go-to for the past decade for true fish and chips. Their batter is so spot-on, crunchy and so satisfying. And their chips are hefty chips, soft inside and nice and crunchy on the outside. We always order the haddock and chips and the clam chowder. Take out also because we live close by. Even if we have it delivered, it still comes as good as if we ate there. Always worth our money. 👍🏼
After a indepth discussion about Fish and Chips in Toronto there was a general consensus to attend St.Andrew's Fish & Chips. We order the Haddock & Chips and the Cod/ Scallop and Shrimp platter with a side of Mushy Peas & Steak and Kidney pie (not shown). Service was perfect and staff was friendly; I am glad this place survived the pandemic. Keep up the good work. 8.1/ 10
Great service and even tastier food available at this restaurant. The haddock and chips are cooked fresh upon order, and the portion sizes are well worth the prices. Takeout is available and the staff do a great job of managing pickups. Definitely worth visiting if you're craving fish and chips in Scarborough!
I've always wanted to try this fish and chips place for years. I decided to come by on Good Friday for lunch. The place was quite busy and I understand why. Got haddock and chips and cod fish chips dinners. Well I can say WoW. The haddock was very tasty and the batter had a nice crisp to it. The cod fish was also very good, nice and fresh. I will definitely be back to try other fish on the menu and it won't take me years next time.

Ordered halibut and chips and halibut and poutine, on November 2024, when I got home to have dinner both orders, the fish batter was undercooked batter was not eatable. Will not go back.

One of the most legit fish and chips spots out of the UK. Ca across them by chance, and really loved it. The fish and chips was bang on. They even do decent deserts. Want some UK fish and chips but cant go to the UK? Go to these guys
I recently ordered dinner for my Grandpa for his birthday. They were going to cancel my order on Uber eats as they did not have the pudding. However I called the restaurant and they were so amazing and changed it to rice pudding. We lost my Grandma earlier this year, and all he talks about is how the rice pudding tasted just like hers. Thanks for making it an options and making his dinner that much more delicious.
Excellent Halibut! Very nice big piece of white meat fish. Fries are nice and crispy too! If they have it, their deep fried Mars bar is heavenly just order it! Friday early evening is rush hour there so avoid as a lot of experienced folks come there to eat early. Update : Sat evening at 4: YES They had their Sticky Toffee Pudding. Its to die for. Better than the deep fried Mars bar mentioned in the previous review above.

Heard there was a neighborhood fish and chips rivalry. St. Andrews won in my books! I had brought my friends visiting from the UK to St Andrews to try their Cod and chips with gravy. Theres a reason why this place has been open for four decades and why I keep returning. St. Andrews not only has the best fish n chips in the GTA but the whole atmosphere is authentically Scottish and a wonderful, cozy comfort to keep coming back to. The service is friendly and treats you like family. Let me put it this way. If a Scottish friend of mine comes and eats here and says it feels like home...youve got a treasure here. Im always looking forward to my next visit.

Ive been going here since I was a young kid and the quality of the food has not changed over the years. Large portions, fresh fish that is perfectly cooked, golden and tender and loads of delicious chips. My brother and I always loved getting the deep fried mars bar to finish and of course gazing around the restaurant at the interesting Scottish memorabilia. This family owned and operated business is a vital institution to the neighborhood and Toronto! Come out and support this family owned local business for a meal you definitely wont forget.

I just ordered the haddock and chips and I was very excited because this place has been open for over 40 years and run by a true Scotsman. However, this was not what I expected at all. The fish was extremely rubbery. It tasted like it was previously fried a day ago and probably thrown in the microwave to heat it up. The fries were oil soaked and soggy. I even threw it in the oven to crisp it up a bit. I was hoping for hand made tartar sauce, instead it came in a sachet. Definitely will not be going back. I love fish and chips. I am in England at least once a year and the first thing I order is fish and chips. Now I am not expecting it to compare, but this doesnt come close. I am hoping they just had a bad night but I wont be back. My sister even threw her food out after a couple of bites.

I was so excited to eat here, my family and I were here for a basketball tournament and I follow on tik tok. I told my daughter how awesome this was going to be, her first time having fish and chips. My mom was from Scotland and we would have fish and chips with my Nan all the time. I am disappointed in the service, we sat down and barely a hello or anything . I wanted to say I was excited to be here but that feeling instantly was gone. Food was good, but not friendly or really even polite.

I was looking for a fish and chips place somewhere in Northern Scarborough and saw St. Andrews listed online and recommended on reddit. I had never been before and was very impressed with this authentic Scottish restaurants large menu. I took my mother there as she was down in the city today and we both really wanted halibut and chips. It was nice to have an option of sides, even if we went with the usual (for us) coleslaw. The portions were large and the meal was both filling and delicious. The wait staff were very friendly did a great job of balancing attentiveness with allowing us to eat in peace. St. Andrews has the traditional family restaurant feeling I grew up with. A comfortable spot that isnt trying to be pretentious and lets their quality food do the talking. If I were to say one negative thing, it would be that I would have appreciated a higher ratio of chopped pickle to mayo in the tartar sauce. Its clearly a popular spot as they have a dedicated takeout window and even before dinner on a Friday it was getting plenty of business I will definitely be back again in the near future. Parking: At least 75 spots Wheelchair accessibility: The door is at sidewalk level and a wheelchair can easily be wheeled in. Tables can be made accessible by moving a chair.
I went to this restaurant as a result of seeing a commercial on TikTok by the owner. The insides of the restaurant are just plain spartan! My wife and I ordered the halibut with chips that were $27.99 each and our son got the children s meal for $11.99. The adult portion came on a plate that was so tiny. My wife and I thought we were getting the children s meal. The batter for the fish and chips was on the oily side. The fries were just ok. The portions of both were far too small. With no drinks, other than the tea that was supplied, for a meal that was a dozen dollars shy of $100 with tax and tip, it s not anywhere worth it.
First time customer, I stopped in for lunch with a co-worker. Truly the best Halibut and Chips I have ever had! The fish and batter were delicious, and the chips were excellent. To top off this great experience our server was friendly and super attentive. Thanks so much for the great food and service!

Im not sure if it was just for us. The shrimp and scallops were tiny breaded in massive flour. It had no flavor. The fries are delicious and service wad amazing. But 80 dollars for 1 platter, 1 piece of fish and chips, and a poutine. Thats crazy pricey for fish and chips. We came because of reviews. But Really not for us.

Staff are always friendly and quick with your order. I typically get haddock or halibut and chips or poutine - they always taste fresh! You can dine-in or order take out (call in, at the location, or through a delivery app). Theyre located in a little plaza so parking is shared but I havent had an issue with finding a space.
Authentic Scottish meaks. The cod fish and chips I had were perfectly done. They must have kept their oil for frying fresh. Both the fish and French fries tasted really fresh. Excellent and friendly service. The only thing that I considered needing attention would be lighting. This place would be much more comfortable to dine in if the room is better lit. Prices are very reasonable. It will be my place to go for fish and chips. And Im interested in trying their Haggis.
My boyfriend is English so we are forever on the hunt for authentic fishs and chips. The chips are perfect, the best ones weve found that remind him of back home chippy chips. The fish is also the best hes ever had. Service is perfect and the staff are all attentive and sweet. Very homely vibe. Highly recommend !
We ordered St Andrew s on Skip, and they were unable to fulfill the delivery request. We called the restaurant and Angie personally delivered our meals at no charge, and was super nice. We ve only had good experiences with these folks! If you have a hankering for good fish and chips, this should be your first and only stop in Scarborough!

I have been to St. Andrews a few times over the years and I have really enjoyed it. This was my first time back post-pandemic and I brought my kids. They absolutely loved it. They had the kids fish and chips and I had the haggis and chips. Delightful!

Ordered 2 seafood chowder soup, cod sandwich and chips tonight on the uber eats app. The chowder was enjoyable, nice bits of seafood and small potatoes in a creamy broth. The cod sandwich was put on batch loaf , buttered and thin amount of fish with tarter sauce placed on the sandwich. It was good but thought the box you put it in made the sandwich get really squashed. It looked like a pancake Chips tasted good and they supplied us with malt vinegar and ketchup. Was ok but the squished fish sandwich did not look good. It would be better to use a bigger box so it looks nicer. Overall good food!
This is the best place for authentic and tasty fish & chips! I particularly enjoy the halibut dinner. The bread and mushie peas are nice accompaniments. I am confident that you wont be disappointed if you try them out. I have been a regular for the better part of 25 years. Oh... and the takeout is about as good as dining in. Ordered takeout from here for Good Friday and the food was fabulous. Highly recommend splurging and getting the halibut not overly coated in batter, crisp, fresh-tasting, and the perfect portion. You also get a mountain of quality fries and the price for everything is terrific. Today was surely a very busy day for them but they were very well-organized and definitely anticipated the rush. Staff were super friendly and on top of everything. Great spot!

Outstanding halibut and Haddock with home cut fries. We are going back. The atmosphere was pleasant but it was the staff/owner who treated us so nice. We went with friends and will go back again. Dropped by for a poutine fix. Yummy homemade gravy over fresh thick-cut fries and melty cheese curds. For $6+, this hit the spot!

Went here for lunch. Got cod and chips and this special bread as i wanted a fish sandwhich but they dont carry buns or topping like lettuce or tomatoe or onion. Just this special bread which id lkle 2.95 for 2 slices. Ok so i order after asking a ton of questions which im sure came off as annoying lol my bad So cod was cooked well nice and crispy. 1 piece cut in half. A lil on the small side. Asked for chips to be crispy and they were perfectly crispy. No cutlery in bag. Had to go back to ask for some. Heres the part i didnt like: price was steep. I believe it was close to 18 , 19 dollars. Honestly, it should be priced more like 12.99 as the size of fish was that big. I love fish sandwhiches but this was bad. No bun no toppings. No thanks. Ok theres fancy bread ill give it a shot. Take a bite. Super bitter burned flavor overtakes everything. Its the crust of the bread. Avoid like covid. It totally will ruin the flavor of the sandwich. I highly suggest they start using buns and offer onion lettuce tomato. There was a very cute waitress that was helping me so thats a plus I dont live in this area so doubt i will be back. 2.5 out of 5 for me

Fast and friendly service. Halibut and chips were good and filling. My husband was a bit disappointed that the custard from the apple pie+custard dessert he wanted to order (for take-out) was only available in-house. He ended up just getting a slice of apple pie. Overall food is great.
First visit to St Andrew s following a regular customer s recommendation. Slipped in an hour before closing. While the server, Arden, was very busy with the takeout customers and telephone orders she saw to our orders promptly. I commented on the amount of running Arden was doing between waiting on tables, handling the many takeout customers and fielding telephone orders. With all of the hustle and bustle Arden was polite and professional, the consummate server. Sadly she had one telephone customer who left her upset. Poor form on the part of the caller when they have no clue what the workload is for the person taking their call. Our meal was delicious and the service from Arden was impeccable. Cannot rate St Andrew s or Arden s work ethic high enough.

Got 3 fish and chips for good Friday. Online order through their website - easy and convenient. Pickup is a little... different, around the back, but its probably their busiest day of the year. Normally I take a photo to add but was really hungry and it was good, I just wolfed the whole thing down. Would easily go here again.
Great place in Scarborough for some classic fish and chips! I got the halibut and chips, but upgraded the chips to a poutine! The halibut was super tasty, with a crispy light batter on the outside and soft moist halibut on the inside. The poutine was also very good.

I find the fish was really small and thin. Not like I remember the fries and gravy was delicious! I would like more fries. I would expect to fill container. It cost 19.90 for one Halibut and fries and gravy.
Great taste but super oily
Had the haddock and chips. I am not a big fan of fish, but this fish was very fresh, large portions and didnt taste fishy. The coleslaw is great too, it is creamy, with the bite of vinegar. Will be going there more often, although it plays havoc with our carb and calorie intake.

Waiter was really nice to us, and was very honest about how theyre food is made. We can only eat halal, so she made sure to tell us that the fish was fried in beef fat which we cannot eat, something that could have gone easily unnoticed. Place also has a really nice vibe to it.

This place was by far the best place for fish and chips in Scarborough. However the last few visits the fish and poutine portions seem a lot smaller. Poutine is not filled up like before , its also more money so its a little aggravating. Also fish doesnt seem properly cooked.

The food was absolutely garbage. Waited 40 minutes for my order, brought it home and not only was it cold but the fish was soggy. It was stuck to the fries and fell apart when I tried to pick it up and put it on my plate. The fries tasted old and were not cooked in the middle. The deep fried Mars bar tasted like fish oil. First and last time I will be eating here. So disappointing.

Been coming here for decades consistently delicious fish and chip the halibut is excellent. I can honestly say I ve never had a bad order. It s the type of place where regulars come and they come for a reason! Traditional fish and chip shop excellent meat pies, haggis, mushy peas, Scottish bread, deep fried Mars bars, sticky toffee pudding. Friendly waitresses and fast service. Love it here because it s old school!

Fish n chips was good. Not too oily. I called ahead and they had my order ready. Gave a good quantity of condiments like ketchup, vinegar and tartar sauce (unlike some other places). The food taste and quality was any day better than Halibut House (Danforth Avenue). Two thumbs up!

I tried to put in a order tonight for pick up at 7:08 pm was told there not doing anymore orders. Just a little confused as to why because they still had 22 minutes left till close. Not very happy right now.
The fish was a bit oily and wasnt as crispy as normal. It isnt a normal thing for this company so I think it was just a different day. Would love to give it 5 stars in the future

Ordered takeout since at that time, dining in wasnt allowed. Prices are reasonable. I ordered halibut with fries and a side order of coleslaw. The fish was cooked perfectly. Soft in the inside. The batter wasnt too much or too little. I was super impressed with the fries though. Not over done, some were crispy, some were nice and soft, just a nice mixture. The coleslaw, I was happy I ordered a medium, because it was good. Even had leftovers the next day. Ill admit, the tartar sauce was probably my favourite of everything, but it could be because its been awhile since Ive had some, but it was super good. I got the right amount for my meal as well as it lasted until my last bite of fish. When I first got home and took the package out, I thought it wasnt going to fill me but once I was finished, I was fully stuffed. Stuffed enough that I didnt wanna eat any more fish and chips for awhile. I will definitely be back, hopefully to dine-in one day. This place is definitely one of the top fish and chips places in Toronto. Highly recommended.
I ordered the Halibut platter that came with shrimp and scallops. The halibut was great but the 2 shrimp and 2 scallops were meh. Some of the fries were also old or rotten because it had a sour rotten taste to them.
Ordered the steak and kidney pie with fries. Pie was quality reminds me of home. Will definitely be a repeat customer

Have traveled across the country and this is the best fish and chips I have had outside of Nova Scotia. The haddock was cooked just right with a perfect coating.

We are frequent customers of fish and chips ! The fish is absolutely delicious and fresh each time. However, the french fries were a major disappointment today. It tasted at least a day old and when i called in the to report this, Emma told me it was cut fresh in the morning. Sad as I did not want a refund nor to bad mouth anyone but just to make them aware that clients can taste the difference between fresh cut potatoes versus that which stood over to the next day. They lost a loyal customer today because I trust my taste buds! Stay safe.
The first time food was excellent, but second time the fries were over cook and about 30% of it were simply burnt! I was quite disappointed as this was a takeout and I can t just come back to exchange fries. Also, they are so stingy/frugal with the tartar sauce . Only two small packets .

Best fish & chips around. Many choices on their menu. Owners and staff are wonderful and caring. I have lived in this area for 30 years, so I have been coming here since about 27 years now. People I know who have moved away from Scarborough still travel back to enjoy another meal at St. Andrews Fish and Chips.

picked up two orders of their haddock & chips today and was more than satisfied with it! my brother and I were surprised by both the taste and the quantity. we will definitely be making our way back soon!
Finally Me and my husband got the chance and decided to order takeout today. The service was great. However, the fish was so heavily breaded, it looked like a big piece of fish but 30% inside was empty, like breaded shell. I opened the package right after we received, the fries were so soggy and huge. It was disappointed honestly.

Theres a deal right now where you can get 2 for 1 haddock and chips! The haddock was so delicious. Portion was also huge. Enjoyed it a lot and planning to order again soon
I have been going to St. Andrews for 25 years they have amazing food and staff. In these times with Covid I am frequenting the store more often they have been busy the food is always hot and fresh. I had fish and chips at my cousins fish and chip place a few months back and really in comparison wasnt that good now I know why she prefers to drive over here to eat at St. Andrews.

The food, the prices, all extremely worthwhile. Food quality top notch all at decent value. I ordered the haddock and chips and was blown away with the authentic flavour and consistency. Will now definitely frequent this restaurant. Very hard to find a meal out at a restaurant at a reasonable price these days, let alone that tastes good! This checks all the boxes for me!
