2282 Kingston Rd, Scarborough, ON M1N 1T9, Canada
This place is so cute like a not so hidden gem that’s been around for so long for good reason. Fish and chips is their specialty. But the service is probably the most special thing about this place. Thank you Will for the amazing experience. We will definitely be back.
My family has been coming here for fish and chips for as long as I can remember. Probably darn near 2 decades or more. The fish and chips is the best you’ll ever have, the bread & and coleslaw on the side are fantastic too. The other day we decided to order on uber eats and I mistakenly checked out with fish only, which we didn’t realize until the food arrived so I placed a second order for chips only and we stuck the fish in the oven to keep warm. To my surprise I got a call from the restaurant informing me that they noticed the mistake I had made and they sent me 6 new fish and chips orders to ensure that everything would be warm and fresh when we sat down to eat. We couldn’t believe it as the fish isn’t cheap whatsoever! This just goes to show the type of business they are and that’s hard to come by these days. Thank you to the entire Duckworths team!
Duckworth’s is a charming spot that delivers a traditional fish and chips experience. The old-timey atmosphere feels like stepping back to the 1950s when it first opened, creating a nostalgic and authentic vibe. The fish was fresh, the batter perfectly crispy, just not flavorful if you’re looking for a seasoned batter. While it would be even better if they offered homemade tartar sauce, the overall experience makes up for it. If you’re looking for a classic fish and chips meal that stays true to tradition, Duckworth’s is definitely worth a visit!
The best fish and chips! Everything is so fresh. The halibut is phenomenal. This was our first visit to this location, but used to frequent the brothers store on the Danforth years ago. We had the halibut, chips and Cole slaw. Everything was delicious. Keep up the great work!
This cozy local fish and chips shop offers fresh, perfectly crispy fish with golden, seasoned fries that are simply delicious. The warm, welcoming atmosphere makes it a must-visit spot for comfort food lovers.
Delicious fish and chips. Fish was very crispy and light. Will be our new go to when we're craving fish and chips. Restaurant itself was had a very basic interior. The service was good, and all the staff was incredibly friendly. Definitely worth visiting!
The staff are really friendly, portion sizes are great, but the fish was a bit too oily for my taste. We'll be back to try it again sometime.
Nice spot! Service is quick and friendly staff. Food was good, we had the haddock and chips with a coleslaw on the side. Price is reasonable! The atmosphere is very family casual style. Would return again for some quality fish and chips, and to try the bread that looked so good.
Best chippy in Toronto
Fish and Chips are as good I remember them when I was growing up. Good, F & C are difficult to find these days. I will be back!
Great fish, great fries.
Still the best place in Cliffside to have a meal. Take out or sit down
The best there is. Owners and servers are very friendly and polite. Excellent service. We usually go once a week.
Best fish and chips in the city! Oil is changed very regularly and the batter is tasty without being too much. Food : 5/5
Old school cool. Around for 58 years I believe. Great fish and chips. Batter is on point.
17.40 cad for 1 piece fish and chips??? And 3.10 for coleslaw served on the table which was for 1 person but the excuse is we charged you the big one because we didnt have the small one. What does that even mean. Also very mediocre as opposed to what people have reviewed here. I ordered both haddock and halibut and they were each 6/10 at best. The tartar sauce was great so was my server.
Great fish, decent chips -- I like them well done because normally they are just fluff and not at all crispy.
Best all around
10/10 no complaints
Excellent food excellent service and friendly
The Halibut is so fresh, tender with a flaky, crisp crust. The service is genuine, not the fake phoniness of some places. After I feed the squirrels at Rosetta McClain gardens, I feed myself here.
Old diner vibes. Had the halibut and it was pretty much perfect, the amount of batter was ideal. Wish they had a homemade tartar sauce but I d recommend to try the halibut.
Simple and good
Excellent food and lovely atmosphere! :-)
The best fish and chips in Toronto
Amazing place past it a many time finally stopped in going tomorrow lol
Awesome gem in Scarborough and our new go to spot for fish and chips. We ordered the halibut and haddock. Both were perfectly cooked, crispy and light! The staff were super friendly, helpful and attentive. Highly recommend eating in to really appreciate the staff and the freshly cooked food.
Best fish and chips in Scarborough
Best fish and chips in the city!
Best in town..
What a wonderful mom and Pop shop. The food is made with love and you can tell it is fresh. Everything taste great and the service is super nice and polite. Will definitely come back again.
Best Fish and Chips around hands down. If your looking for a feed. This is the place. Very friendly staff, family own business and a great old schools atmosphere. Give it a try! Much love ! Kid-friendliness: If your kids like fish and chips like my does, this is the place.
Update: nothings perfect. I have returned and the food was amazing.. was bad day for cook maybe.. original review . I moved into the neighbourhood... 30 yrs ago. Ive been a customer for that long. Tonight for the first time I learned they have undercooked french fries.. and over cooked french fries and you are suppose to ask which you want. Dropped too soon, all those cold fries will delay the fryer oils return to cooking temperature and the resulting fries will be undercooked. Fries I received first where undercooked.. tasting like frozen fries before you put them in the fryer.. just shy of being cooked... and the fries I got after .. over cooked.. and had to toss half of them in the garbage.... too hard to eat.... ! Never has this ever happened.. ever.. in the history of 30 yrs.. eating at this restaurant.... never have I been told.. ask for well cooked fries.... What happening duckworths..? Expensive treat.. but needs to be worth the cost.. the expense..
I ordered 2 hallibut and one order of chips to go. I was the 1st customer of the day. I would have to say that it was the worst fish and chips I have had at a cost of $34.00!!! This establishment has been around a very long time. I expected better.
As fresh as you can find in TO. High End it may not be, but the people are great, and the food is as good as you can get short of waiting on the dock. Wheelchair accessibility: Iffy at best, Im sorry to say.
Best fish and chips in Toronto. I have been coming here for more than 20 years and it has remained the same.
This place used to have a much higher level in the past. The past 3-4 times I ve had issue with the stale halibut and chips. It s extremely disappointing what has become of this once proud establishment.
BEST fish n chips!!!
1 order of halibut and chips only comes with 1 piece of fish but they make up for it with plenty of chips. Great food, great service. Quick turn around time when they arent super busy. Parking: Small plaza with multiple other stores. Parking is difficult to find.
The most authentic fish and chips place. Clean quick and tasty.... Highly recommend to go here Food
First time at this restaurant today. Staff are super friendly. Fish really good. We had the haddock, which was tasty and moist, with a nice light batter. It wasn t over cooked. Fries are fresh cut. Portions are generous. Bread was fresh, soft inside with really good crust. Overall an excellent experience.
Great Fish and chips , great coleslaw.
One of the best places to enjoy some fish and chips.
Used to get batter crisp on my way home from John A Leslie, 56 years ago for free, smothered in malt vinegar and salt.
Best fish and chips we have ever had. Halibut is perfectly battered and extremely tasty. Great homemade bread fresh daily. Chips are hand cut & service is fast and friendly. We have been going here for over 50 years and have never been disappointed. Highly recommend this restaurant. Parking: Directly on Kingston Rd. In an older row of businesses, so parking can be found in front.
These fish and chips were soooooooo good!!!!! The fish was flaky and deliciousss and the chips were perfectly cooked. I haven t had fish and chips this good in ages. I feel like a brand new person. I would definitely come back. Not to mention it was all so fresh, the food is made right in front of you. Also thanks so much for the free extra fish :D i felt like i won the lottery lolll. I always pass by this place, but i never tried it until today, and im so glad that i did :)
Duckworths is the gold standard for everyday fish and chips. Period. Always have the halibut, always worth it.
Good to see this family restaurant stand the test of time. Totally hits the spot for fish and chips!
This is not like British fish and chips if thats what your looking for... Wrong potato species (too waxy not floury enough - need Maris Piper species) dont appear to twice fry the chips and the wrong oil used. This might be a Canadian thing but I can always taste bitterness in the oil on my fries and fish here... Use peanut oil if you cant do beef fat.. Back in the day it used to be beef dripping but I think most UK places use peanut oil now. Either way. Want to support. You could be legendary if you got it just right.
Fast efficient and packed everything up in lots of paper to keep it hot until I got back into Pickering with the halibut and chips!
Heard great stuff about this place. Friendly staff, fish was fantastic as was the fresh cut fries. My new favourite fish n chips place.
They serve good quality fish and fries. The tartare sauce which they serve along with fish is one of the best I had until now.
Best fish and chips in the T.O., never miss the chance to try this amazing place
Super friendly and some of the best fish and chips I ve had. Great value
Great fish and chips!
Pretty good mom and pop place for fish and chips, although I feel like the bang isn t really there for the buck. I ve had similar quality elsewhere for less. Still, no significant complaints, and the place does seem like a decent place to go to hang out and chat with friends.
Very greasy hurt my stomach probably wont go back also very weird smell inside the restaurant maybe rotten fish or very old oil in there deep fryers
Duckworth s is the closest to English Fish and Chips that I ve found in Canada.
Got to be the best fish and chips place around. The batter was light, and not soggy, even when I took it home to eat it. The boxes are small, but they fit a lot in there! Also, someone said their gravy was watery, but they must have changed it, because their gravy was fantastic. A great thickness and perfect on the fish and chips.
To be fair, I showed up on a Friday night. The place was very busy, however, I noticed that the portion sizes seem to have gone down a little. And the fries might have been a little less cooked than I like. Otherwise still one of my favorite places - although I dont like the gravy. Food
A little sad that they no longer have White Fish, but understand why.
Good fish and chips.
Best fish and chips in Toronto one of reason they Just focus and the two items and that why I always go there best of the best
Great but delivery is needed
Simply stated, the best fish & chips you ll ever eat! The high quality halibut is perfectly battered and fried to perfection, served with nice chunky chips that are outstanding and unlike the tired typical chips you might have been served at most restaurants. No glamor - no gimmicks - just fish & chips as it s meant to be served up by some great people!!
The best Fish & Chips ever!
Best fish N chips around!
Best F&C place ever. Fresh fish. Friendly staff.
Very tasty! Glad we found this fish and chip place.
3 people to eat fish and chips and end cost to be $76 plus tip while we sit and watch every other person who cam in get offered bread with their food, yet we were not. way too much money and clearly, they pick who they give better service to. Not going back.
The best fish and chips ever! Very crunchy and the sauce is wonderful!
Best Haddock in the city
Anytime you feel like fish n chips head on down to #Duckworthsfishandchips cruisernation1882 highly approves of all the food and the staff are equally great. Also be sure to check out the cruisernation special on YouTube for entertaining content,
They sell fish and chips AT THE SAME TIME.
Great food. The service was terrible. Went for lunch, and the waitresses literally did the least they could during my time. Literally finished my last bite and the bill was dropped on my table.
Classic!
Great take out place - best family halibut dinners
Best fish and chips in Canada!
Best in town
Only the absolute best fish and chips anywhere. Great staff and service also. Parking is not that easy but well worth the effort to find a spot. These folks know what theyre doing. 110% recommended.
Best fish and chips around.
I love it the fish and the French fryers
If you like fish and chips come here. Get the halibut. Never go anywhere else for fish and chips again.
Just classic! Super crispy and with the fluffy fish inside. One of those been around forever places that you can just go back to for that fish and chips cravings. Parking: Limited to spaces in front and across the street.
Duckworths is the place to go if you are seeking out good old fish & chips. Their halibut fish is tender with a crisp thin coating that melts in your mouth. Served within minutes of ordering. No hassel, no fuss.
This place is an absolute institution. The best fish & chips in my opinion in the province.
Certainly a great place to have fish and chips. Wonder why they are not in the recommended places for fish and chips and even placed on the Michelin list for fish and chips. Too good to miss for those looking for fish and chips.
Heard about this spot on Instagram and drive there 20 minutes later. The Halibut was amazing! Perfectly batter and a nice thick piece of fish. My only complaint were the oily fries but thats my fault for not admit the cashier to our it separately not on top of the fries. 10/10 will definitely be coming back
Best fish and chips in Toronto!! Always delicious
Very good quality fish and well cooked.
Old school fish and chips joint. You can feel the history of this place. Fish was good. Found it to be light and fluffy and not too greasy. Only suggestion would be the fries. Pretty tasteless. If they had fresh cut fries the fish and chips would be killer.
Halibut fish size is decreasing day by day.
I went to the place reading all the Google reviews and 4.5 rating however this place was a big disappointment. The fish and fries did not have the bare minimum salt making it practically bland. Also, the oil was not good. It tasted like really old oil and had the smell. I bought 1 dinner and after having a bite or 2 of each of the fries and fish, I threw it away. Here goes away $20. Staff at counter is fast and ambience is old world. No music, just kinda dead. My main reason for never returning to this place is the food had No Taste and the oil was stale. The least they can do is use fresh oil, especially when you are in the business of frying. I would not go here again.
There are very good reasons that Duckworths has been around for 50+ years: Great food Great people Great value Food : 5/5 |
11/10
way better fish n chips place around the area. price a bit costly.
Absolutely fantastic as always Thanks
They do fish and chips right and dont forget the FRESH BREAD & BUTTER cheers
Nice little neighbourhood spot with friendly and attentive staff. Decent food too. Unfortunately, very questionable value for money. paid nearly $50 including tax and tip for two meals and a shared Coke. I understand prices are up for everyone and everything these days but at this price, it s nearly impossible to justify a return visit.
Good food small restaurant
Deeelish!
Always the best
Great halibut & fries, portions are thick pop-tart size. Creamy coleslaw was tasty and slices of italian loaf come pre-buttered. Only downside for us, the gravy was very bland, rich color didnt match to taste. Not a deal-breaker, especially when youve got malt vinegar for fries.
Best place in the city by far
I havent been to this Duckworths location for many years. I found the quality of their halibut and chips to be inferior to the Danforth location. It was too greasy and the flavour was lacking.
Pretty delicious, but just om value wise. Deff get bigger portions for the same price with other fish and chips places In Scarborough.
We have been going to Duckworths on Kingston Rd for about 36 years. The portions are huge, their prices are reasonable and the staff are friendly yet professional
I have been going here for years. I was sad to see they only offer packaged lemon juice versus a fresh piece. Also check the condiments to make sure they give you enough. That all said the fish is amazing and so yummy!
Great customer service
Best fish and chips in Scarborough!
It s REALLY good but, very expensive for quantity. Used Uber, it was 18.00 for one piece of fish + a basket of fries. I would rather pay 22 dollars or so and get another 1/2 piece of fish or something. Again, awesome quantity. Loads of fantastic fries. But not nearly enough fish :(
Fish here is amazing. I ordered 2 poutines and was a little disappointed. There was very little cheese in both and the portions seemed small. Also the cheese didnt seem like real cheese curds as the poutines are generally made with.
Old school fish and chips restaurant. Delicious
Best fish and chips in Scarborough!
Pretty great - I remember eating darker fried fish elsewhere but this is probably healthier. Tastes amazing - all the fish (they would try to upsell you to the most expensive fish, dont fall for that) and all the fries. They dont expect tips and turn extremely courteous and sweet if you do tip them.
I m new to the neighbourhood, and it took me a few trips to become a true believer in this institution. Well run, very nice, great fish and chips. And the sign is so cool!! What else could you want.
Great local joint for fish and chips, they do a ton of take out so be prepared to wait a bit if you go during dinner time. Prices and portions are also very reasonable.
Never disappoints! Best fish and chips (hand cut) in the city! Brings back fond memories of my childhood. Yes... theyve been around for a lonnngg time!
best f&c around
A small place. Masks Required. The fish was Lovely.
Great fish and chips! Great people cooking and serving!
Excellent fish
Best Fish and chips in town.
Great prices!
Hands down best fish and chips in the city. Costs you a pretty penny but worth it if you care about what youre eating. I try to get here once a month. Ive experimented with many many fish and chips locations in Toronto and the Kingston road Len Duckworth Fish and Chips takes the cake. Be prepared to drop 20$ for Halibut, Chips and a Coke.
Bet fish and chips anywhere..
Been having fish and chips and both locations for over 60 years it cant get any better.# 1 any where
I ordered a halibut sandwich. It was a perfect amount. And the bread was so soft.
What kind of fish and chip restaurant doesnt have lemon? and PC pre-packaged Tartar? Cmon its 2022!
Not bad for little hole in the wall, quick friendly.
Some friend recommended this place and found the food average. Wouldn t repeat visit.
a must try! just amazing~
SUPER delicous
Best fish in chips in our area!
Halibut on a bun with coleslaw. Best in Scarborough. Light batter not greecy and delicious and the bun is on point buttered. Must go!!
Best fish&chips ever
Very good fish and chips .friendly service. Will be back
Absolutely spectacular Service. The Best Fish and Chips. No other place compares to it!
Fish & chips- is a art, you understand when you keep your self here. They are fish & chips dynasty, more then half century they are dealing with fish & chips. They only open less then 8 hours of day. Duckworth run by family members- most of them, you can get a family touch in everything of the outlet. This is the 3rd time for me. Last week I order Haddock fish & chips. Its really ummah... Upside crunchi, golden but not burn. Fish was like a sweet and very tender and juicy. House made coleslaw was really nice. It was takeout. If you want a real fush and chips experience, you should come here. Parking: Plenty if space for parking.
Nice little restaurant Good food Clean.
The oil used to fry the fish is not vegetable oil. There is beef shortening in it as per the staff working there. Just dropped this place from my favourites list
The fish, was very good, the fries not so much
Parking: Across the street.
Amazing fish and chips with friendly service !
Best fish in the GTA. If you haven t tried it you re missing out.
Overpriced, nothing special.
Tonight, Oct 1st ordered for takeout. Cod & Chips and Halibut & chips. Ive been a regular for years and its pretty much always great but tonights was especially good. The fish was perfectly cooked and I asked for well done chips and they were fantastic. Thanks to all the great staff. See you soon.
One of the best fish & chips in the GTA Parking: Lots of spaces. On street parking also
Nice little place for fish and chips
I enjoyed a beautiful halibut and chips and can recommend this Toronto (Scarborough?)institution. I do wish the portions were more generous, but like everywhere, food costs have gone through the roof, so I cant be critical.
Great simple fish and chips place. One of those do something very well for years place. No gimmicks just amazing fresh food
Definitely the real deal for fish and chips. Good fries great fish and an awesome batter. First time there but will definitely go back!
Friendly staff. Service is quick and the food is tasty. Fish is well cooked, always crispy, never soggy. You can ask for fries extra done if you prefer. The last half hour is take out only. Its posted on the window. Never had an issue with it
Not sure if it was just an off day but the portions were tiny for the price. Both fish and chips were good!
Excellent COD and fries! This restuarant has successfully been in business for decades
The staff were great and the food was fantastic.
Fantastic service, friendly staff,great food!
I have had fish-and-chips from Duckworth on Danforth *excellent * but this is the 3rd time getting it delivered by Uber eats from Kingston road.the 1st time was terrible the 2nd time was good. This time I ordered the same thing I always order my seafood Platter which is their most expensive item. The Scallops were small and tough and so were the shrimps tough even the fish was tough. Uber eats did nothing about my complaint so I will not be ordering again from duckworth
Finally get to try what everybodys raving about and it exceeded my expectations! Duckworths fish & chips is flat out on a different level! Definitely will be coming back for more. Thanks Duckworth, for nailing it
A timeless tradition!! Still serving fantastic meals!!
This is worth traveling to. Great fish and chips. Not too greasy and seems really fresh and med. Brown cooked frys Wrapped up well for take out. Keeps warm for ages. They take pride in their work. Delicious.
Best price and portions are good , and staff are great !
Excellant service and friendly staff!
It was so nice to be back. Everything was excellent. I was there on November 11th, on their first day open in 20 months. I drive in from Mississauga a couple times a year.
One of my favorite fish and chips shop. Fresh, crispy and delicious fish and chips . Love their halibut.
As usual legendary excellent service excellent food reasonable prices great atmosphere friendly staff fantastic overall
Probably one of the best pieces of Halibut I have ever had!
Good portion, hot. Didnt take long after we ordered.
