Coming to this place for over 20 yrs lately the take out food amount has drop significantly u order chili beef u get one piece of green pepper 8 piece of chilies the amount of beef in the order is only enough to eat half the food same with the fish I complain but the owner is so stuck up she does not believe the customer thus only happen the last 3 times now I have returned food that was black in colour when she saw it she said oh it shouldn t be like that and she re made the order the owner is so stuck up and arrogant it s like she forgets the 101 rule listen to your customers I know prices has gone up but 15 for a chili beef and u get a few pieces of beef it seem there r cutting back on the portion and her server says oh we never had a complain keep that attitude and missives will go south

The food is excellent, some of the best hakka Ive had in a while. Seriously consider stopping by to dine in rather than take out, though, the decor and atmosphere are great if youre dining with company.

We drove thirty Km only to eat their Chicken fried rice, all our extended family member love this item. Most of the time they cooked it right. After 3 years, I put 1 star food is getting worse, chicken fried rice with very little chicken, sometimes very salty very greasy, I wish I could put no star

The spring rolls were cold and not fried at all. The waiter did not explain but went to the kitchen to redo them. But they were not served after the meal and the waiter forced a tip.

The server, probably the owner is a disgrace to the restaurant. She needs to fire herself.

Very bad dining experience, I ordered a dish of broccoli beef, it was completely tasteless, completely starchy. The waiters attitude was very bad, completely ignored us and did not give us a solution. Forced tip when paying the bill. It was definitely a fraud.

I recently dined at this restaurant and was extremely disappointed with the service. The staff were rude and inattentive, which made the entire experience unpleasant. To make matters worse, they added a mandatory 12% gratuity to the bill, which I would have been happy to pay or even more if the service had been good. Unfortunately, the staff s poor attitude left much to be desired. The food was average, but what really stood out was how disrespectful the employees were. I would not recommend this place due to the unprofessional behavior of the staff.

My go to is always the veggie rice noodles, but I decided to try something a little different tonight. BIG MISTAKE. I tried the chicken balls with veggies and chicken fried rice. It was absolutely disgusting. The rice was mushy and tasteless. The chicken balls were mostly batter. One of them had no chicken in it at all. Based on this meal, I would never return as a customer. If I wasn t so tired, I would take it back and ask for a refund. But it s not worth the hassle.

I have been going to this place for a very long time now (8+ years)and their food quality has never dropped. My favorite on their menu is the fried beef with ginger chilli dry - American chop suey and fish pakoras. Their fried rice is really good too. By the way their chinese doesnt taste exactly like hakka but even better as they bring a taste of Pakistani style chinese food. Overall if you are looking for the best tasting chinese food in Toronto east Chung-moi is the place

Affordable Hakka food and tasty. Highly recommended dishes: spicy fried rice, shrimp fried rice, manchurian fried rice, Cantonese chow mien, fried mee fun (vermicelli), pakoras, chili chicken, garlic fried chicken, black bean green beans, sweet & sour fish. Always consistent food and the food came out quickly, especially the fried rice. Staff are polite, efficient, happy to accommodate and answer your questions. One of our to go Hakka spots in Scarborough in ages. Parking: Very limited parking spots in front of the restaurant, so you may need to park on the next door plaza that has a lot more parking spots.

Food was great. However the issue was the extremely long wait time for our dishes. We waited 25 mins for fried rice and an additional 10 mins for our chilli chicken. On top of that when we paid the lady put a tip without even giving us the option of choosing how much. Tips are service based not at her leisure. This was unacceptable.

Hidden gem! One of the best Hakka spots in all of GTA. Their Hot & Sour soup is the superstar, along with the Garlic Chicken & Beef chilli. Comfort food at its finest.

My first time at Chung Moi introduced to me by my Aunt Sandra. Food was extremely delicious and large portion sizes. This is now my go-to Chinese Hakka restaurant. Vegetarian options: Lots of vegetarian options.

Massive difference with the portion on takeout vs dine in! Spent over $50 for 3 different main dishes. Not even a little side of white rice! It s quite greasy and heavy on the gravy! There are better Hakka places in the GTA, IMO!

Weve been going to this place for a very long time. Todays customer service from the owner of the restaurant ensures we never return. We wanted to have a good time with family, but her attitude threw us off. Communication should be improved.

Ive been going there since I was a kid, my go to has always been the egg fried rice with chili chicken, the spiciness and texture of the chicken is honestly euphoric for me along with the hot sauce and the umami of the soya sauce, cant be beat!!! Parking: Parking is free by the plaza just below.

I m amazed that I ve never rated Chung Moi - this has been a favourite for nearly a decade. Food is ALWAYS hot and fresh. Good choices include Hakka Chow Mein, Dry Ginger Beef, Chicken Pakora, General Tso Chicken and Manchurian Fish.

Unfriendly owner who charge 20% extra when I changed from egg fried rice to masala fried rice in a combo without telling me the extra charge. They also include tips in the bill without telling us. Food is very salty and oily. My original order was supposed to $25, ended up 2x. When I questioned the bill, the owner was grumpy and annoyed. Never come back again.

I came in here to pick up my order, I walked in and there was clearly a lady standing there. I waited and she was STILL on her phone, I needed to say hello for her to notice I was even there. No hospitality what so ever, she only asked how are you paying? Then proceeded to be on her phone. I never had this experience at this location, I am pretty shocked I used to go here growing up.

The best Hakka in the city, and has been for a long time. We have been coming here since 2004 and they never disappoint. Their Hot & Sour soup is a MUST. I promise you no other Hakka spot does it like them. They also have the best American Chop Suey and their Young Chow fried rice is chef s kiss. Chilli chicken is a bit salty for my liking so I would see if they can make it less if you order.

My boyfriend and I usually go for lunch special. I love their curry goat and he loves chili chicken! Both inexpensive but delicious.

I happened to find this gem when I was attending night school across the street at CDI College. Their food is fantastic!!!!. I have had so many friends take me to other Hakka restaurants but they are no match for Chung Moi. The quality, the flavour and the attention to detail etc is always spot on. The Young Chow (House Special) fried rice is something that I could literally eat every single day if it was realistic, it s fantastic. Their chili chicken has real chili peppers and it also tastes fantastic. Anywhere else I have tried chili chicken in most cases the taste is off and most importantly there are no fresh chili peppers. Their Beef Broccoli is also superb. They have a variety of fried rice to cater to every palate and every taste bud. I have tried many different foods here and they are all great. I wish there were more Hakka places with similar flavour, taste and quality but unfortunately there is not. So I take the drive from the west end of the city all the way to Kennedy Rd. to get their food. Lastly, their pakoras are mouth watering and once again contain fresh chili peppers. If this place ever closed down or was taken over by new owners I would be thoroughly depressed for a very very long time. Please keep up the great quality, great flavours and most importantly the warm hospitality that the owners are known for.

Undoubtedly the best Thai soup in GTA. The soup itself is so refreshing and so flavourful that it will bring back all the memories of childhood. It s a remedy for runny nose or cold. I have no words to describe their Thai Soup. Their chili chicken is also famous but I tried their Beef Chowmein which was toothsome but a bit oily. Don t expect good service there as the seating arrangement and service are below average. Price is very reasonable as the portion size is also big but service charge will be added with the bill for dine in. It s a must try halal chinese restaurant at least for the Thai Soup.

My boss (a well respected legitimate chef) kept telling me I needed to try the chili chicken from Chung Moi, after I had been ranting and raving about another restaurants that serve what I believed to be excellent chili chicken man was I wrong in my thinking. The chili chicken here was absolutely the best I have ever had, ever. The flavour, the spice, the taste and the texture I cannot even begin to say how much I enjoyed it. Absolutely stellar food, I m actually angry at myself that I took so long to come and try it.

Went at lunch time ordered chili chicken they brought it with sauce on it so I said I had this before without sauce they said oh you have to just know to say that I said why dont you ask because it doesnt say or give those options I said can you do something about it she and the manager both said no thats the way it goes then someone behind me had ordered fish and it was the same thing and I heard this woman order fish dry no sauce and they told her no thats the way it goes she said can you change this please and they said no. I also ordered a noodles special - I got two thinking I will take some home - so I had to pay for both they could care less! anyways I will never go there again and its too bad because I really did like it before but that is just bad business.

Hands down the best Hakka food in Scarborough!

Ive been coming here with my family for nearly fifteen years, if more than five stars was an option Theresa and her team at Chung Moi would get it. Consistent soul-soothing food that feel like home no matter where youre from. I will warn you however, youll never be able to get Hakka from anywhere else, I moved an hour out of Toronto and happily make the drive down. Highly recommend.

Incredible hakka place, serving size was insane. Each takeout dish we ordered could have easily fed two if not three people. The chili chicken with masala rice was well prepared and the masala rice will have us coming back for this unique dish. Highly recommended.

Horrible experience! We went there after almost 4 years, we used to be regulars there. Service was extremely low, we got served our soup right away. But sadly it was a just salt that we could taste in the chicken corn soup. Next came the chicken chowmein, which we cudnt start because we kept waiting on the chilli chicken and garlic chicken. Both came after a wait of about 10mins. By then the noodles was cold! The gravies were loaded with corn flour, heavily battered chicken. We could only taste the batter and the sticky thick gravy. There was hardly any taste to their food. The noodles was the only thing that was edible. At the end, they also added gratuity of 15% to our bill without our knowledge. We were a group of 3 adults only with a toddler. Very disappointed with service and extremely disappointed on the food they now serve.

lacked alot of flavor overall. chicken is a huge miss, flavor was off or should i say just tasteless. soup was a huge disappointment. rice was probably the best thing but nothing to return for. I honestly went because of the reviews and my friend said he tried it and liked it. as we dined in i had to keep my disappointment contained or i would have ruined the experience of others currently dining. im not here to judge what people eat, but maybe try somewhere else first before thinking this spot has great hakka food?

THE BEST HOT & SOUR SOUP EVER. POINT BLANK. PERIOD. I dont know what is in this soup but it feels like it regenerates your cells while you are eating it. We also had the garlic broccoli and the chilli tofu, both were great. The hot sauce is also premium, hot but not too hot and chock full of flavour. I wont be passing the Kennedy & Eglinton corner without stopping in for that soup again, do yourself a favour and buy the large, thank me later. Vegetarian options: All options we tried were vegetarian.

Generous portions of food. Really loved their fried rice. However the chilli chicken seemed a little oily (could smell it). Still great taste. But not good on the stomach. The chicken made me sick the whole night.

Worst customer service ever! We walked in at 7:45pm . The restaurant closes at 8:30pm. As soon as walked in, we are greeted with are you sitting down to eat? . We said yes since there was 45mins left. She responded with You know we are closing at 8:30 right? You have to finish eating by 8:30 in a very aggressive tone. It was disrespectful, and very condescending the way she spoke. we saw a staff sweeping in the back as well and didn t look like they wanted us to sit. We were shocked . Disgusting customer service. Don t kick your customers out 45 mins before closing- if you say your open till 8:30, you should still be seating your customers until atleast 8.

Been coming here for years. Love the chilli fish (with gravy or dry) and the chung moi special noodles. Parking: Park at the plaza just west of the restaurant. Since the weed shop opened its harder to park infront of the restaurant, but lots of space in the next plaza

The 4.4 rating on Google is probably for the food, which I agree. However the lady at the front(probably the owner) is extremely rude, incourteous and unprofessional. We went to this restaurant yesterday around 8.45 pm and they were closing for dine-in at 9. The lady abruptly kicked us out by saying that they were closed for dine-in. We walked out without saying anything as there were customers around. This is not the first time as she was always rude in her tone. This is a service industry where a friend demeanor would make all the difference. We then went to another place, and unfortunately they were also closing, but the owner was very courteous and respectful. I hope the lady at chung moi learns how to treat customers with respect.

Have been coming to Chung Moi since the mid 90 s. It was through Chung Moi that I learnt of Hakka food and my life changed forever. The food tastes the same today from the way it tasted back in the 90 s. Their Chung Moi hot and sour soup is to die for. I travel all the way from Richmond Hill to pick up a take out order of just that! We had dine in not too long ago and food was great but service was average. The decor doesn t seem to have changed much in the past decade. I ll stick to doing take out orders :)

Food is Tasty. Hot and Sour soup is very good. Tried Combo 2 that includes Chicken Chilli Dry, Chicken Chowmein, Banana Vanilla ice cream and fortune cookies. Altogether the place is worth going.

Service was excellent. Food was salty and mold on the vegetables. Owner of the restaurant was at the cash counter. So we ask for the bill. She verbally said $40.45 so I left 45 dollars. I know it is not enough money for tips. Let me break down for you. 2lunch specials 9.50 each=19 dollars 1 Thai soup. 11.75. =11.75 =30.75+13%tax=34.74 The gratuity was added to the bill. I have attached some pictures of the food. I leave the judgment to you.

Theresa and her family are fixtures at this location and in the community. Chung moi has been around for many many years. I am proud to say I was actually there on opening day. 25 or more odd years ago lol and counting, I grew up in the area. I knew the previous owners of the Chinese restaurant Annie and Danny as a young boy.. The food is absolutely amazing, Teresa is brilliant, her husband is courteous and hard-working. I enjoy Hakka cuisine across the country. Theresas style and flavor is unmatched. The chicken pakora, chili beef, hakka fried rice, all of it is to die for..including the Thai soup... its all unique and again unmatched from coast to coast so far as Ive seen. Ive been to almost every Chinese hakka restaurant in Canada except BC and Pei if any.....Seriously unmatched.:)

They charge 13% tax and 13% gratuity for dine in. Isnt it funny that 26% extra on your bill. Fried rice is good, but chilli chicken is worst.

I recently visited this restaurant before 3pm, expecting to receive the advertised $9 discount as stated on their menu. However, to my disappointment, I was charged the full amount despite arriving in time. When I inquired about the discrepancy, the lady handling my concern was extremely impolite and rude, making the situation even more disheartening. Her behavior was harsh and unacceptable. If I had the option, I would give this establishment a zero or minus rating due to their misleading pricing and the disrespectful treatment I received. I hope the management takes these issues seriously and addresses them for the sake of other customers experiences

Food isnt what it used to be. Both chili chicken and manchurian chicken taste very different and saltier now. My family thinks the meat isnt fresh. I used to enjoy eating here, but not anymore. Both servings (takeout) are much smaller now, too. I dont think Ill be coming here anymore..

I saw cockroache crawling on their counter! I am so disgusted and I am never gonna eat their! It used to be my favourite restaurant but now I am wondering what the hell have I been eating! I also tried their chicken Pakoras and chow main, both of which I completely enjoyed. The atmosphere is cozy and the staff are friendly. Cozy little spot, unassuming from the outside. Inside feels like stepping back to a Chinese restaurant from my childhood- classic style decor, clean and pleasant. Food was excellent, somehow a little notch above other Hakka restaurants I ve tried. The chili chicken actually had good size pieces of green chilies in the sauce. Service was great. Looking forward to going back.

One of the best Hallal Chinese option. Tried their sweet and Sour soup it was outstandingly delicious. Tried different gravies like beef chilli dry, prawn n chicken shashlik and prawn pakoras in starters. Typical taste, will visit again

Terrible customer service. Chilli chicken was like brown gravy and pieces of chicken. Sweet and sour soup had shrimp in it and when I asked with no shrimp they said no to me then another customer came in and they naked him sweet and sour with no shrimp.

Loved their food. Foods are halal as per the server and reception. A lil bit spicy but really enjoyed that. Will try the other items as well. Waiting time is around 15 mins once you place the order. Portion size was really good. 1 dish is enough for 3-4 people.

We have ordered small spicy and sour soup, veg rice noodle, chicken shrimp fried rice, the amount of food is really large However, the soup is really special, the taste is sweet and spicy but not sour, the rice noodle come at first is chicken and shrimp rice noodle , after asking the waitress she gave us the right one. We discussed that dont give the tip since we dont have a pleasant lunch, but the cashier just ask me to tap the credit card but dont give me the receipt to check whether the order is correct or not I just wondering that why I just ordering one fired rice, one rice noodle, one small spicy and soup can cost 52 something Actually, there is disgusting smell when entering the shop, and the shop dont allow me to choose how much tip I want to give is the biggest problem

I thoroughly enjoyed the chilli chicken lunch special! The flavors were robust without being overwhelming, and I appreciated that it didnt have too much MSG. The portion size was just right - filling without being too much. Additionally, the customer service was excellent, adding to the overall great dining experience. Highly recommend!

I grew up going to this restaurant with my family. Were talking 20+ years ago. I visited the other day after some time and the quality of the food and service has not changed. If you are just finding this restaurant, I promise you will not be disappointed.

I feel really bad giving a 2 but the quality has gone downhill. I loved this place so much that I would drive over an hour a few times a year from Etobicoke to get their chili chicken. I got manchurian fried rice, chili chicken & sauteed green beans. The chicken & the green beans were ok. The fried rice was subpar. Huge portions for sure. But I also want it to taste good. I wonbe making the trek from the West end.

Good food

All time favourite my Hakka restaurant. Their cooking style is very different from other hakka restaurants. Portions are huge. Been a customer since 2007. Will continue going there.

Chicken pakora is the best as always. Corn soup was good like home. I went there from far. 60 km distance. The hakka noodle was not that tasty like before. Seems the oil has an old frying smell. The beef black bean was distasteful. Either i have chosen something else or the chef has been changed.

Wow. Same taste same face. I have been coming here for years since day one of opening. Moved out the area 18 years ago and still make the trek to get the sweet and sour soup. No one does it like them. The shrimp and all the Manchurin dishes are on fire. This is true Hakka food.

I had the chili chicken lunch special and my friend had sweet and sour chicken special. It was a generous portion for a good price and very delicious. Parking: The lot just west has lots of spaces.

In terms of the food alone, this is an above-average hakka spot. Ginger beef in particular is delicious. Dined in several times before and service was fine. Facility cleanliness has improved. Why deduct two stars? This place for the longest time, does not offer complimentary steamed rice with their meat dishes. Why is this so cost prohibitive? Pretty much all of the competing restaurants I go to do this. It is $3/4/7 for plain rice (depending on how much you want) on top of the cost of the dish (which isn t really any cheaper than the competition nor more generous proportion-wise). Give me a break. And the owners aren t too friendly when approached by criticisms. I certainly hope prices improve once the LRT starts running smoothly. Otherwise, I m really not going out of my way to go there.

The food was pretty good tried two different chow meins, shrimp and chicken fried rice, pakora and some prawn balls ..cant give 5 or 4 stars though the prawn balls were alright but they didnt look like prawns more like small shrimp balls and they didnt give me the jar doo chicken wings I ordered and paid for really though the food was alright but if you do pick up check your bags before you leave I made it all the way home before I realized and wasnt gonna drive back just for that .

Would have given one star, but my partner said his Chili beef with Gravy was not great, but not horrible. I had the dry chili beef. It was exactly that, because the beef was over cooked, but worst of all was the dish should have been called Ginger Beef since thats all I could taste. It tasted nothing like any chili beef I have ever had and it was by far the worst. Cant belive this place has a 4.4 rating. First and last time.

I have been coming here for the past 10 years. The quality, portion size and taste of the food has not changed. It has become comfort food. The vibe is nice. The staff are very friendly and the service is amazing. We have done both dine in and take out and we were never disappointed. We really like their chilli chicken with gravy and all their fried rice items are very nice. They also have vegetarian options.
