Hakka Chinese & Thai dishes in a laid-back space with subdued lighting & modern decor.
This used to be one of my favorite spots, but recent changes have really impacted the quality. The food we've had lately has been tasteless and low quality. Every recent dish we've ordered lacked flavor, and the proteins (chicken, beef, shrimp, etc.) were nearly nonexistent. In dishes like soup and noodles, it's hard to find even two pieces of protein. It's such a letdown, as this place used to be excellent. Unfortunately, I won’t be returning.
My husband and I have been going for years. We started when they were China Cottage. I think it's the same family. Anyways, we like their lunch special and we're always greeted with a friendly smile. We've been there for dinner many times. The prices are good, better than most restaurants. The atmosphere is quiet and spacious, which we like after a hard day of work. The food is good, Hakka flavours which we're familiar with. Highly recommend!
First time trying and everything was soo good!!! I'll definitely be back again and again. The wings are amazing, you have to try it.
I stopped in here for lunch with my aunt and uncle recently. They had been here before and said it was good. Unfortunately, I have to disagree. We ordered from their lunch specials menu - Beef with Tomatoes, Chicken with Vegetables, and Manchurian Beef. A bowl of Hot and Sour Soup was included with each meal. Two of us opted for an egg roll while my uncle chose a can of pop, also included. The soup arrived quickly and was steaming hot. It was definitely more on the sour side, with a strong flavour of cilantro. Our main course appeared shortly after, all steaming hot. My uncle had requested extra gravy with his beef and tomato dish but it was virtually swimming in gravy. My aunt's chicken dish had lots of vegetables, not so much chicken. My Manchurian beef dish had a lot of dark soy sauce heavy gravy. This was very different from anywhere else I've had this dish, and not in a good way. It was obvious to me that all these dishes were cooked in a vessel that was not hot enough. There was no caramelization on any of the food, therefore lacking flavour. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this restaurant.
The food comes out quickly. It’s always hot, fresh and flavourful. It’s a perfect place to buy a couple dishes that the whole family can share and enjoy! Veggie Pakora, Hot and sour soup, and chilli chicken are my top choices.
New management, new staff.I absolutely loved the service and food. Try there chicken lollipops, Juice and spicy, goes well along with drinks.
I went to this restaurant called "Pepper Hakka & Thai Cuisine" and I tasted the delicious "hakka noodles with beef", a succulent dish called "Pla Tod Spice Fish" with bamboo and a traditional thai dish "chicken chow mein" ultra spicy (it make me sweat and cry, haha). I liked so much the food, it was delicious, hot and ready. The portions are very generous. The service is very good, they are so kind and they sure everything is great. They have a lot of vegetarian options too! We ordered some thai noodles with vegetables and a hot seafood soup. Specially thanks to Manu for all his atentions.
Local restaurant serving Hakka Chinese and Thai food. We ordered takeout which takes 15-20 minutes. Service was quick and clear The restaurant is open inside with a lot of tables, but didnt see many dine-in guests. Great portions of food with affordable price. The house fried rice is great, a lot of rice with chicken and shrimps. The Manchurian chicken tasted good and quite spicy, saucy tho it was not very crunchy. Ginger beef is a bit disappointing. We chose the crispy option but it was not, flavor is okay but the beef is dry chewy and soggy. i would comeback for fried rice but not other dishes.
I had Manchurian chicken with vegetables over white rice and it was delicious. I m surprised there weren t more people there as the food was really good and the price is fair. I used to go to this place when it was China cottage and I m glad that the food is still great.
Lunch special was delicious and large portions for only $12.
Delicious noodles i ever had in CANADA. You must try
I have been going to this restaurant but stopped going before it became Pepper Hakka. The food wasnt the same.Went in yesterday and found out the staff from the original restaurant now own it and the original recipes r back.I always got Masala tofu because it was so good.I tried it tonight and it is better than ever.
Amazing service and food. Server/owner who works here is really nice. Have become a regular customer.
Great food had an affordable price
The food we ordered is not to my taste. We had sweet corn soup, pad thai and ginger beef. The taste and flavours were quite poor. The food was much better when it was called China Cottage. I will not be returning again.
Got some takeout today - momos (8/10), shanghai noodles (7/10), and chicken pad thai (8/10). Service was awesome, and the portions were fantastic. Overall, great bang for your buck.
Been coming here for years, but came back after a year. Still amazing food with a brand new menu that has some new dishes. The food we ordered was really tasty and ingredients were fresh. The fragrance and flavour of Tom Yum Shrimp soup was outstanding. Manchurian beef was not far behind in taste and texture. As always super host Mannu, made us feel right at home. Dharmesh also was a warm personality to look after us. Highly recommend all to come and try this little gem.
We ve been coming to this Hakka place for more than 15 years . It s the best Hakka place ever . Clean and fresh . We drive all the way from Hamilton for this treat . Thank you for such a tasty place !
Been coming here for over 16 years. Under new management and its the best weve ever had it! Love the staff, food and service. Our familys favorite hakka restaurant that we commute for.
Decent food. Great staff. Some dishes need improvement. Otherwise a nice safe option for hakka food.
Loved the service, very kind and understanding staff. Food came quickly within a few mins after I ordered, really enjoyed the restaurant!
Went there a couple of times.. was ok Yesterday i got sick after eating the Chicken noodle Sechuan. IMO the restaurant doesnt have good sanitary practices...atleast for this time. Sadly i wont be going there anymore, loved the atmosphere Food
Amazing food, big portions, great prices, will definitely be back
Not a good hakka food not delicious and give the proper quantity I ordered chicken noodle found not a chicken quantitits look like vegie noodles Very disappointed Food : 1/5
Really enjoyed the food and service.
Delightful atmosphere and delicious food
Ive been coming here for years. BEST veggie pikora in Toronto. Portions are huge. Vegetarian options: Many vegan options Kid-friendliness: Family atmosphere
Portion size of meat dishes were half the usual amount given by other similar restaurants. Food taste was not great either, would not recommend.
We were two of us, both got food poisoning!! At first I thought it was only me having nausea, vomiting, headache, etc, but then my friend also started having the exact symptoms at the same time!!! We were sick for the whole day, never ever had food poisoning like this ever in our life, mind you we always eat junk food/street food/unhealthy food and never ever had this issue!! This place should be shut down and reported!!
Absolutely delicious food, incredibly friendly staff, and completely worth the price you pay. If you re looking for a good hearty meal, definetly check this place out.
Service was great and workers we re very helpful and kind. Food was good as well with many options for a great price
great service and delicious food! would definitely go back!
Amazing experience, food was good and the waiters were kind. Even gave us a free desert!
Came here on a recommendation from a friend. The chilli chicken with gravy was 4.5, the hot and sour soup was 5, the Szechuan chicken was a soft 4, the chicken 88 was also a soft 4 and the Manchurian chicken fried rice was no where remotely tasting like Manchurian, it was close to plain fried rice so this I give this 1.5/5. Would I come back here , yes, as portion size to price is reasonable. The fried rice was a lot could feed four people, but be prepared to have something that just a small step up in flavour from the plain rice. One recommendation is they are really fast in getting the food ready for takeout, like 10 mins easy, I suggest do 12mins, the chicken dishes will improve in taste if the chicken combines with the flavours longer, worth experimenting adding a min more to the cook time.
Customer service is amazing!! Everyone is so friendly and personable. Food tastes amazing too
Great price and large portions! Quick and friendly service is a bonus
Had an amazing time with friends, 10/10 overall on the service and food itself. Best Hakka in the city
Food and service were 10/10. Highly recommended giving this place a try, you wont regret it.
Had dinner with my group of friends, service was the best and the staff was super friendly. Food was amazing, really recommend the Hakka Chicken and chicken wonton soup!
Staff was super friendly, food wasn t as flavourful as expected, got the Singapore viramicelli noodles and pepper shrimp. It wasn t bad, really good prices and super friendly people.
the dry chilli chicken so good
The food was exceptional! Very fairly priced and the chilli chicken was AMAZING! The restaurant is very clean and the food was very fresh. There were lots of good vegetarian options as well. I ll definitely be back soon!
Highly recommend for Thai and Hakka food. I love the General Tso. Friendly and quick service!
The restaurant was able to customize for a Jain diet and the food was very good. The service was also very good, very hospitable and accommodating.
I ate here for years since it was with different owner. Recently i had a cooked cockroach in my noodle dish. I also see someone else sharing a picture and comment about the same issue. This place should be shut down
Love the food, tons of delicious options.
Lovely Hakka Thai cuisine ever. You should check out the Lollipop Chicken. So yummy and delicious. Must come back and have this dish again
THIS PLACE IS NOT HALAL. THEY SAY THEY ARE BUYING MEAT FROM A SUPPLIER WHICH IS NOT TRUE. THEY ARE BUYING MEAT FROM HARAM PLACE. I HAVE SPOKEN TO THE SUPPLIER!
This place was FANTASTIC when it was China Cottage. Sorry to say since the name (and possibly management) change, the quality of their food has been steadily declining. I ordered the Orange beef, sweet and sour chicken, haka beef noodles, calamari, lollipop chicken and chicken fried rice. Every single dish was a disappointment. The beef in the orange beed and noodles were both rubbery and lacking any sort of flavour. The lollipop chicken tasted like it hadn t been properly marinated prior to frying. The fried rice was flat. No flavour. I don t know what happened to this restaurant but it s safe to say, my order yesterday is definitely going to be my last one at this establishment. I only gave them two stars because of what they used to be. Not what they ve become.
We wanted to try the restaurants based on reviews, however when we asked for table the owner said no done in as someone reserved the entire fine in area but the reservation was not until later that evening. Horrible customer service, will not ever go there for food.
Worst hakka place. Got food poisoning after eating from there
I did dinner yesterday on base of my last visit 5 years ago. Amazingly...totally tasteless haqqa chicken with excessive salt, 50% cooked rice and no taste of beef. I wasted money, taste and got very bad experience. I recommend HAQQA-1 front of Shopper Drug Mart in Parkway Mall ( fornt of this pepper haqqa). Vegetarian options: Dont eat anything from here.
We ordered the sweet and sour chicken and there was a roach or earwig cooked into the food.
Have been coming here for YEARS ON YEARS SINCE HHIGH SCHOOL!!! Hands down best Hakka in the city. I always get their chilli chicken with fried rice and it s always super hot super fresh and super tasty. Their hot and sour soup is the die for by the one of the best soups I ve ever had so next time your in make sure to try it out!!!! I love the customer service whether in person or on the phone always respectful quick understanding and just over all in general great service and staff as well as the done in is nice and calm big space super clean always and amazing.
will be back, love the taste of Hakka fish, chilli chicken and mumbai beef. the quantity and quality of the chicken fried rice is bit too much
Premium Hakka. The best chilli chicken in Scarborough. Lots a other great menu options, and friendly staff. Highly recommended
Always a pleasure to dine here. Great food and service. Try their schezwan hakka noodle, hakka fried rice, hot garlic chicken and hakka squid. Its yummy
Food was excellent and so was the service. Keep it up PEPPER Hakka and Thai. Will be back Food
Best place to have Thai food ever. I have dinner with my wife and two kids here last night. Amazing food, even the kids love the food too. Thanks to the Chef
Came here after 5 years with my children and the food was delicious. Weve been to many Hakkah restaurants in the GTA and the food was top quality. It arrived quick and the service was amazing. We will definitely be coming back would recommend!
Cozy and comfortable atmosphere. Food is delicious price is good. Staff is very nice and friendly
Reasonably priced, good portions. Bombay Noodles were amazing, we also tried the Hakka fries and mango salad.
Loveee this place! I ve been coming here since 2014. My friends and I used to get the Hakka fish it s amazing. I am still ordering this dish in 2024. If you can handle spice, get the Hakka Fish (my photo will look different then the original dish because I added soy sauce)
Great food, great prices. Convenient location.
Re-Opened for sit down dining a few months ago and is on Skip and Uber Eats sometime this August
The best chili chicken around these days. I always order it extra extra spicy or else it is very mild. Ask for some extra green chili peppers on the side for an extra kick. Lunch specials are a great value. Very polite service.
Best chicken pakora
Good But their Pakora is cooked differently from Bangladeshi, Pakistani, Indian cuisine Food
Came to grab their lunch special. $10.99 plus tax for a meal and option of pop, soup or spring roll. Can t get any better than that! Food was flavourful and generous portions. Will definitely be back!
The door reads a big Halal sign but when we asked for a halal certificate, the guy at the counter first said that they don t have one and then corrected himself saying that they are getting charged for getting a halal certificate. We left from there, don t take a chance.
Hakka noodles very dry no taste chili chicken lunch special very small portion and all rice no wonder place was desd on a Friday lunch
Service is always good Food is always tasty Try the chicken 88..(its dry( Food : 4/5
Have been eating here for years and it used to be so good. But since last 2 times, I have been getting extreme food poisoning from their food. I had diarrhea and kept vomiting my guts out entire night. Also my pee has been red in color ever since. My husband also suffered from the same situation. My baby whom I nursing kept hysterically crying in ain the entire night. They need to be reported. The rating displayed for them is from when they were china cottage. Now they are just garbage and a source of sickness. Food tasted old by the way.
Good food for a reasonable price
Excellent Service
reasonable prices great Hakka food
We got a bunch of dishes , everything else was ok but the Singapore noodles was really poor in taste ,seems like they only did add turmeric to the noodles.
New owner, same staff and chef. Food is amazing. Best Hakka you ll find. Massive portions. Reasonable prices. 10/10 recommend!
Good service, good food, good prices
Great service, delicious Hakka food, chefs shrimp, CC dry are a must try
Hi, I went last Friday to takeout after checking the reviews, so I said OK lets give it a chance. I ordered Chilli Chicken, Mango chicken and a noodle soup. All the dishes were very blend, lack of flavors specially the soup. My mango chicken had no sauce at all just the chicken some peppers and mangoes. I will not come back.
Called in an order for pick up, not being aware it s under new ownership. Food was bland, no flavour. Got the Hot and sour seafood, dry chilli chicken and fried rice Manchurian. Everything was bland and flavourless. Maybe they will improve, will try it out once more.
One of my other OG favorite Hakka spots in Toronto! Something about the taste of their food is what makes them different compared to other nearby Hakka restaurants. In my recent experience, I called in for a pick-up order, and the gentleman on the phone was very accommodating when placing the order on the phone. While the restaurant used to be called China Cottage, their food taste and service quality have always been consistent. The restaurant ambiance has always been very low-key and chill. Overall Generous portions + service. My go-to things to get here are their Egg Fried rice & crispy beef & chili chicken
Your take out doesnt come with plastic spoon and fork neither napkin I ask they say doesnt come with the food so how Im going to eat. Foam food container box cost you. 25 cents now who charge you for 2 cents foam containers doesnt provide plastic spoon fork or just 2 paper napkins imagine what quality of food they are selling. Just a garbage food smells terrible.
Amazing restaurant! Rly good food
Amazing place trust me all the food taste juicy and good if you have spare time I recommend you go hear all the food is delicious please try this out
FEB2023 Edit: Just are after a few months of not visiting- the food is top notch! Everything is very similar to the previous owners cooking! You wont be disappointed! Lunch special is priced at $9.99 that includes a pop/ soup. Good sized portions. AUG2022 Edit: New owners of this establishment. The outing going China Cottage has been here for over 25+ years or so. Big shoes to fill. The food is similar but not at the same level as it was under the old owners... Still a good Hakka experience. Edit: still top notch Hakka! Love it here! The best Hakka food hands down in the GTA. Chili chicken dry, Hakka squid and cottage special soup are top on my list. Been going here at least 15 years! Quick service at a very affordable price!
The food was of poor quality and lacked any flavor. Customers expect fresh meals when dining out, and this was not the case at your restaurant. In addition, your customer service was terrible. The staff seemed uninterested in providing quality service. The above-mentioned issues may be the reason of your continuous negative reviews. I hope that you take this feedback seriously and make the necessary changes to improve the quality of your food and customer service. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Ordered the chilli fish, the batter was either too thick or stale because it was tough to bite into the fish. Also ordered Kung Pao style mixed veggies and the broccoli was old (yellowish heads) and the cabbage was still tough as if it was not cooked enough - that dish was also 80-90% cabbage. The crab and corn soup used stale imitation crab which had a texture which was way too chewy. However, the manchurian fries were excellent. The sauces here are on point for sure. Still, its a shame that the best dish we tried at a hakka place involved French fries. I have a lot of fond memories of this place as a child, so I hope it can come back to its former glory!!
Best Halal Chinese
I absolutely love this place, a good friend took me here months ago (moved to Windsor from Toronto) and now almost every time I come to Toronto I eat here, good prices amazing food nice service...
Worst food I have ever had. Had to throw it out. Szechuan Noodles. Dry lump of matted noodles with sauce poured on top. Noodles so stuck together sauce could not even penetrate. Hot & sour soup was worst I ve ever had. Will never go back.
Tasty food, parking can get full.
This location used to be China cottage. I come here for their chilli fish. I thought what the heck let me give it a try, chilli was okay, the colouring was dark soy sauce but the flavour was not the same as what I had from China cottage but I liked it tasted good . I got their hot and sour and I could not eat it. They had cabbage and tofu and tiny piece of chicken almost like diced and it tasted like dark soy sauce only but had a bizarre after taste. It was NOT APPETIZING. I tried couple of sips and could NOT drink it. I don t think I ll ever come back here to be honest.
Been going here for years. Easily the best Hakka around - since Pepper was born, quality has gone downhill.
Loved their food. Tried Ginger beef and it was delicious.
Order chilli chicken and chicken friedrice. Chilli chicken is stale and tastes so bad. Chicken fried rice has very little chicken and rice seems to be like from the day before. Nothing is fresh. Avoid this place for your gut health
Man this place use to be so good I left the entire food as is because it wasn t fresh at all for some reason just wasted 60$
Delicious food and very quick take out
Vegetarian options: VEG PAKORA- VEG FRIED RICE- GOBI- EGGPLANT- WITH ANY TYPE OF SAUCE U PREFER. I ENJOY A LOT Parking: Easy to park.! Wheelchair accessibility: YES.
Poor dine-in service. Very unfriendly customer service over the phone. I called today and the guy was impolite and rude. I think this is a given if youre eating in a Chinese restaurant. It wasnt like this though years ago so I didnt expect it. Poor service ruins the food.
The food here used to be good when it was still managed by China Cottage. We recently ordered Chicken 88 and they were almost tasteless. After a month ordered again and still tasteless even my wife who ordered Manchurian chicken didnt taste as great as before. Its disappointing to not come back to one of my fav restaurants for years due to this reason.
Worst Hakka food I ever had in my life. They use so much of food color essence that I have a stomach problem. I would never go to this location again! Stay away!!!
We had our babys Baptism Brunch there! Everyone complimented us on the food! Well done! Staff was kind, and fast! Which we very much appreciated! Vegetarian options: Tasty!
Never have Green Bean but always have fresh taste and friendly staff
Nice food
Good taste and freshly prepared delicious Vegetarian options: Manchurian, Gobi fry Dietary restrictions: Yes, please inform the waiter before placing your order Kid-friendliness: Fries and non spicy food options Wheelchair accessibility: Yes
****CAUTION**** Come at your own risk.. Looks are very much deceiving in this instance. Everything in this picture looks amazing right ?! Well it looks good and even tasted good, however, it left us with a day full of washroom stops, feeling weak and nauseous, to not even being able to function for the rest of the day. Not sure what went on here on our visit, but seems to be some kind of poisoning as every single person we came with left with a symptom or two after eating their food. Terrible experience coming from a Hakka spot, especially since most Hakka restaurants leave us wanting to come back. Ive tried this restaurant when it was called China Cottage and it was not bad, but this is ruining their reputation as I heard its the same owners. When I came back home and was reading reviews, it appears other people have experienced if not the same but similar symptoms from their visit to this restaurant. I really hope this place closes down. People come in, paying good money to be left feeling sickly. DO NOT COME HERE! This is not the same China Cottage that it used to be!
Hands down the best hakka restaurant in SCARBOROUGH. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Vegetarian options: Yes Kid-friendliness: Family run restaurant
Nice
Food was fresh and tasty, I enjoyed it.
Got the chilli chicken .horrible. No taste. Tasted like it was rushed. Definitely wasn t fresh because it came out within 5 minutes. should be ashamed of yourselves!! HORRIBLE! There was no chilli nor did it have any salt just an over powering taste of ginger. I had to throw it away.
2023 edit: this place has gone completely down the drain. Me and my wife went yesterday and could not finish our food. The quality is so disgusting its surprising they are not shut down . My chili chicken had disgusting purple bone piece in it (possibly chick neck) I almost puked. The customer service is garbage. If you dont want your stomach ruined then please avoid this place. 2020: okay food, okay customer service.
Okay in all regards
Extremely stingy with their quantities.. I paid 16 bucks for this? Never ordering from here again..
In facT, the food was good. Parking area is good enough. I enjoyed the food. I ordered friend rice and chili chicken, chef shrimp and Hakka squid, the food was delicious. I enjoy the time here.
They sell Chinese food
We took take away, we ordered Manchurian chicken and bamboo beef. Both tastes average on taste. Its a halal restaurant.
Ordered the Pad Thai and beef wanton. PadThai had No taste, No Chicken, No Flavor. Beef wanton had no beef at all. Price was very expensive Would never go back here, terrible food.
I got the Garlic chicken, Mixed fried rice and Chicken wanton soup. All tasted great! However, I liked my food served very hot. Only the Garlic Chicken was served very hot. The service was friendly and esthetics was above average. As everything else, some minor improvements would make this place a top eatery...
It was decent experience compaared to China Cottage which used to be before
Great place for chinese food . I visit here specially for there red sauce veg chopsuey which is amazing sweet n tangy. There veg bombay noodle is proper street styled noodles. Recommended place.
picked up food with my order number. But the person keep insisting to know if I was uber or skip etc.. I said I only did this through their site and am not sure but that I do have the order number. Person made it really difficult to get order. Wouldnt give me the order until he found out. So after 10 min I finally got my order. When the restaurant was completely empty. Crazy. normally I can overlook bad customer service, but then after I ate the food. I couldnt stop going to the toilet. Like some reviewers are saying here. Never again!
It was so fresh and hot. I ordered over the phone and picked up. Food
We had the Mumbai beef, hakka fish , chilli chicken & noodles & fried rice yum yum yum yummy
I went here before and loved it this time around the soup had no taste to it and food wasnt the best . Probably not gonna go here ever agian.
Extremely underwhelming, what a waste. I miss the old China Cottage. Did they inherit the old reviews to be currently rated 3.9?!
***CAUTION*** I ve had food from this spot so many times when it used to be called China Cottage. But every time Ive had their food since they changed to Pepper Hakka, Ive gotten food poisoning. I end up throwing up a couple hours right after eating the food. It happened to me twice before and because it was so many months apart I didnt connect the two together. I just had their food again today after several months and got the same symptoms and ended throwing up. And thats when I realized that its this place thats making me sick!! Please dine with caution. Ive read reviews of other diners who ve had a similar situation. Safe to say that I wont be eating here again.
Like a lot of the reviews here this place used to be good under China Cottage but has gone downhill under Pepper. Order 4 dishes - Crab Corn Soup (very salty to taste and had to be binned), Chicken Lollipops (they had a ration of 90% flour and 10% Chicken), Fish in black bean sauce (the fish was stale and not edible) and mixed fried rice (again excessive salt but just about edible). Another strange thing was the staff at the counter after taking my order did not seem very happy with the fact that I chose to sit at a table and wait for my order (15-20 minutes) even though the restaurant was empty and not a single other table was occupied.
Always a great lunch here.
Portions are great. Prices fair. Service has awesome and so was the food. Food : 5/5
the Manchurian chicken tasted awful
Prices and portions are decent but the flavor is lacking. We tried Singapore noodles and Manchurian chicken and both were bland.
Crispy beef and pepper chicken is one of a kind. Good Quantity and service. They have Uber now. Thanks
Very delicious Hakka Chinese food!! Went with a few other families and we all had a wonderful experience
Amazing food and services thanks Dorothy Nelson Patrick and all staff we all enjoyed our 2 Saturday dinner wish I could give more than 5stars plus Bombay chicken chinese eggplant chef shrimp few of must try dishes
Super tasty and delicious food! Their Pad Thai is my fave. I wish they would be on more food delivery apps EDIT: Theyre now on Uber Eats YUM
Super Rude staff almost called cops on them. Owner sits back and watches the show. Check your bill before you pay and know your rights not to be gouged. Food ok.
Friendly staff and good food. Cant go wrong at this place. Highly recommend.
One of the best Indo-Chinese restaurants Ive been to. Great food and service. Lots of choices. Courteous staff. Id definitely go there again. Ample parking space nearby. Clean and good ambience.
We have been eating here from the time we moved into the neighbour hood we were a bit worried when we saw the name change. We ordered our usual stuff today and we were very happy with the food. Not exactly the same but close enough some things I found a little better. We will continue to eat here as long as the quality and service remains the same. Give them a chance I m sure you will be happ. Remember even before the switch of owners the food did vary from time to time. Enjoy
A long time customer (from when it was originally China Cottage) - rest assured the service and quality of the food is as good as before the name change. The restaurant is still owned by the same family. We purchased the chili chicken and it was amazing as usual.
This place is great! The ambiance is very welcoming and the staff is also really friendly. Amazing extensive menus with good pricing quantity and a super fast service. I would like to come back here again and again. Recommendable...
Great customer service. Place was very clean. Soup was excellent. Food was good, but a bit too salty for me. Overall, a nice place. Parking: Not a very big parking area
Awesome food, incredible ambience, fantastic chef and friendly owner.. Keep doing the good job *Pepper Hakka & Thai Cuisine*
Great food and ambiance... loved the taste... must go for the Mumbai chicken and pepper chicken... they also have veg. Dishes... you will feel like home cooked food !!!!
Unfortunately the food quality has gone down since the change .used to eat here almost every week
Pretty decent lunch menu
Food was just ohk
This place is amazing. Worthy of six stars if that s even possible. The food is in huge portions and in a very reasonable price. Here everything is delicious from the most common starters to the most exquisite meals. It s also really filling, we ordered some fish, chicken and some noodles and we are stuffed. You really have to try it, trust me you won t regret anything, you have my word.
Delicious food Welcoming environment Pepper Hakka and Thai cuisine is best when u want to eat something delicious
I would rate 10 if I could!! Best Hakka food in town. Thank you!
Food was tasty and filling.....Reasonably priced, would like to recommend to friends & family....
tremendous and most delicious chinese food i ever had before . highly recommendable for those who like tasty and authentic food .
Awesome food and ambiance.
Take me out on a dinner date, wow the customer care . The experience is really memorable
Tried this resturant on my business trip. Really loved the ambience food and sevices. They really deserves stars for their food and services.
This is the best restaurant 5 stars for the food and services
It was so clean, welcoming and delicious meals offered at some fair price.
AMAZING discovery on our Canada road trip, Is all I can say! The food was delicious with a special mention of the Hakka Noodles combo (yummy) & the service warm with a smile. What more could we ask for. Keep up the good work
Dont like their food at all. No flavor at all. Food was also very expensive. I would not recommend to go to this restaurant.
Overall foods are great! The crispy beef dish we ordered were over done, tasted like chips. We liked the appetizer, green mango sliced!
Taste is average..plus the oil used for cooking has a peculiar taste..
My family and I love this restaurant! We have our own favorites here so I would highly recommend chilli chicken dry for those who love fried chicken chili chicken gravy, lollipop chicken for fried chicken lovers, mango salad and their noodles are also to die for. It has a nice family ambience and great service! Highly recommend!
Love the food and staff is amazing
I ordered a veg friend rice and Mumbai chicken. There is no taste in friend rice, it was very blunt no salt no pepper no proper sauce and even the chicken was not cooked fully it was hard just out of the freezer. Pathetic food and I wasted $25 on this food. Dont waste your money here food cannot be returned or exchanged.
Chilli chicken dry is the best in the city. Tried the chef shrimp for the first time. It was excellent too.
Ive been coming here for a long time, ever since it was called China Cottage. The best place to go to for any hakka food, always fresh and tasty. Owner and staff is friendly and helpful. Will continue giving business to them, they deserve everything!
Nice place for chinese food Vegetarian options: Limited Kid-friendliness: No Wheelchair accessibility: Yes
Avoid this place, the people rating it highly are either former prison inmates or simply dont know better. It was good when it was china cottage but now the food is below puppy choi level.
One of the best Hakka restaurants to visit, their fried rice dishes and the chicken sides are the good ones to have any day! The best time to visit is during the lunch weekdays, they have the $10 lunch combo which includes rice, a side and an appetizer. Very clean environment and very friendly service!
Awesome food at affordable prices, the team makes you feel at home and efficiently walk you through the menu, one feels like going back to enjoy this rewarding experience.
Nice food. Love the chili chicken.
food is amazing. good variety of choices.
Great food great prices nice staff
I love their lunch menue. Specially their regular Chillie Chicken special because its not overly spicy. So spicy enough to feel the taste of spice but enjoy the food at the same time. If you want more spicy, you can ask for spicier. Service is always friendly.
While I liked the China Cottage name better, apparently it is new ownership so they changed the name to Pepper. Either way, the menu and food appears to be the same as before. Lunch specials are great and comes with choice of hot and sour soup or spring roll. As a Hakka place, the meals do have a nice kick to it so order accordingly! Pad Thai comes with peanuts and chicken (no shrimp). Large portions, even for the lunch specials.
Great service
Always good food with awesome portions and fantastic service.
Hakka noodles tasted bad. Tasted like old oil that was overused.
Parking: There are a few parking spaces for customers of the shops but not enough to meet the demand. Food
We used to be regulars at this China Cottage location for years before we moved to another part of town. We happened to be in the area and decided to pay a visit to our old stomping grounds. It had been about 5 years since we were there last. We hesitated initially when we saw that the name was no longer China Cottage, but Peppers. Were always cautious about trying out yet another hakka place. For old times sake, we went in and were pleasantly surprised that the menu looked the same! We ordered a bunch of items including cashew nut chicken, fried tofu, penang curry and fried rice. The food taste was just as we remembered it from years ago! Authentic, and fresh. Service was a bit slow, but the food made up for it :) Being back there reminded us of good old times with friends; we would definitely go back when we are in the area.
