Stay away rip off. Order the large oxtail got 6 pieces the rest rice. Always skeptical of Caribbean places at this pint as they are all racist. I always see pack meat in everyone else's dish. They're done just ripping people off till they bankrupt. It's the cultre of them.
Note: Cash only. No seats available, takeout only. Food was incredible and fairly priced, 5/5. Tried the jerk chicken and oxtail, both were absolutely amazing. Oxtail was fall off the bone. Jerk chicken was juicy and deeply flavourful - the best jerk chicken I’ve tried so far. Rice had nicely soaked up the gravy, very rich and deep flavours. Visiting however is quite inconvenient. I recommend going in the middle of the day for lunch. Have tried previously visiting closer to end of day (1 hour before closing) but they had already ran out of jerk chicken. Also, payment accepted is cash and there are no ATMs nearby.
first time leaving a negative review :( bought a dozen frozen — filling was not spread out and was filled with mostly wet gelatin barely any meat. patty was super flimsy and fell apart by halfway. i heard great things about this place and was excited to try but my family and i were super disappointed and confused
CASH ONLY. I wanted to buy a box of patties but I ended up just getting 2 because that’s all the cash I had. Though the patties tasted good, I was EXTREMELY let down by the quality. See the pictures for yourself, the patties were dinky, and there was barely any filling. Before I could even put the patty in my mouth the pastry was already falling apart… certainly the quality has gone down since I last visited. I’m hoping that management would consider the other similar reviews to this one and make the adjusted necessary to serve their paying customers better. Unfortunately, this experience was a disappointing one and experiences like this is what causes business to lose loyal and new customers.
This is one of the better places to get your Jamaican beef patties in the Greater Toronto Area. Their patties remind me a lot of Randys and if what I have been told is true, that’s because the recipe is similar as the owner of PJays is related to Randys. Their crust are soft and their filling on point. I just wish there was more filling as the crust area is bigger than other patties I eaten. They also serve other Caribbean dishes like Jerk Chicken and Oxtail but I have yet to try them. The place is located in a nondescript plaza. There’s sufficient parking but be aware that there’s no signage as to where the store is located. Make sure to bring cash as they don’t take Debit or Credit Cards.
Not sure if they have new people making the patties but I have been going here for a lot of years and they are not the same. First of all, there was almost no filling and of that filling there was almost no meat, mostly gelatin. Second of all, they were not spicy. I wouldn't even call it mild. Third of all, the patties were way, way too salty. I mean box of salt flavour. Someone must have tipped the salt over by accident because nobody in their right mind would use that much salt. Two of us were driving down the road and couldn't finish them, chucking patties out the car window. It's a real shame and it was a waste of money. The pastry was excellent though and maybe you should back the salt off in that too. I felt sick after for about 1 hour. Ok, new better baker n more meat. Update 2024 : Recently I went back and they have fixed the patties. Just as good as ever. Craving patties and going back again today. Also, that is not my hand in the photo with the werewolf fingernails, that is the driver.
We came by P Jays Take-Out last week-end and we were thrilled by the variety of authentic dishes offered and we were very satisfied with our order. We had a small Jerk Chicken, Curry Goat and Cow Foot dinner, a small Peas Stew and a couple of Beef Patties. Overall, the food was flavorful and well-cooked. Perhaps, a little less spicy than other places but, that was just fine for us. Also, the small dinner portions were quite filling with a good amount of meat so, we think that the value was reasonable. The service was very friendly and it didn’t take long to get our order ready.
3.5* better than ok. Got the jerk chicken. Certainly has good flavors, but I found that the chicken was a little dry. Not just the skin, but rather the actual meat underneath. Maybe because it's the first week in January and business isn't as busy and hence the chicken was left longer. Don't know. The Cole slaw salad was fresh and good. For the price to proportions, it was a little more expensive. The beef patty was ok. Small, but the crust was flaky and thin.

I used to come here when I was around 18 to 20 yrs old. I cannot wait to come back for the oxtail I remember! Within the next week or two! I will be there. I will also need a box of Jamaican patties too !!!

I bought a dozen baked beef patties, and it will definitely be my first and last time. The beef patty was so salty, Im not exaggerating when I say this, its almost like eating a spoonful of salt. Its absolutely disgusting. I had to wash my mouth with mouthwash and still had the strong salt taste in my mouth. The filling inside is very little, almost like gelatin, and its not good either. This place is a disgrace compared to every other Jamaican patty place Ive tried. Patty King has much better patties for a cheaper price.

Best patties hand down. And I ve tried many to see if it could dethrone PJays. I m still looking. And I have several friends I introduced to PJays who agrees. :) The oxtail is REALLY good too!!

I had a deep appreciation for PJs, but lately, the magic is gone. Firstly, the decline in the quality of PJs soups is undeniable, ( low or no ingredients) has left me reconsidering my loyalty to this once-beloved spot. Secondly , the staff often exude an air of inconvenience, as if your presence is seen as an extra effort rather than a welcomed paying customer. Franky, Its disheartening to see a favorite spot like PJs fall from grace. A so it go
Grabbed some food from PJays today and I ve been going here over 35 years. Since that time I ve tried all the fancy new places that have opened up around the city including Patois, Chubby s and Miss Likkle More s. Hands down PJays has the best oxtail in the city! It bests even Miss Likkle More s $70 oxtail dish. It s consistently great. Not sure how much longer Patrick will continue to keep this place going, but I remember my Dad taking me here when I was a child and hope I can continue to bring my kids here for years to come to give them a taste of back home .

Years ago we LOVED this place! The food was PHENOMENAL! However, now, it s expensive, the tastes have changed, the portions changed, as did the quality. I don t recommend anymore. We used to always buy the jerk chicken as well as curry goat. The coleslaw was great, the jerk chicken was a hit! Can t say the same now. There was a time I went there about a month ago and the girl didn t give me my change thought it was strange as well.
This is one of my go to spots for some Jamaican patties. Good crust and juicy beef inside. Also had to grab some of their fall off the bone OXTAIL and their flavourful FRICASSEE CHICKEN.

For this small takeout hideaway, there is no doubt that P Jays patties are the best in the city. Their patties are hot and spicy with the right amount of spice. They offer beef, chicken and veggie patty. Besides their patties, PJays has mouthwatering curry goat, oxtail and soup. Vegetarian options: They only have veggie patties which are not vegan-friendly.

Ever since Randys left, these are the best patties around. Unfortunately the filling has been reduced like 50% so you have a small blob of filling in the middle, and the rest is just pastry. Patties are really good but please bring back the original quantity of filling, too much pastry crust! Id pay more for adequate filling

Food tastes good, but you re charging $17 for oxtail, you know good and damn well that you should put far more than 5 pieces. Stop being cheap. And cook the rice and peas better, giving customers clumped up rice

Good Patties are definitely a must try if youre in the area. The service is friendly, and I purchased two patties. One had been cooked earlier, while the other was fresh out of the oven. The staff member, Patrick I believe, even provided me with an extra patty, mentioning that its best enjoyed straight from the oven. I also ordered oxtail and jerk pork with rice and peas. The dishes were both flavorful and generously portioned. Many thanks!
I have a soft spot for this place, it was my go to in the neighborhood. Lets be honest, the service is not the best, everyone looks angry all the time, so dont expect a friendly greeting. I go here for the patties, filling is amazing, pastry just the way I like, just a good solid patty.

Ordered the curry goat on rice and beans. The goat was very tender and had a lot of flavor. The small size seemed very small to me but they do try to pack a lot into it. Not sure if that was coleslaw or just supposed to be plain shredded cabbage, but I would have preferred a creamy coleslaw. I also ordered some of their patties which are pretty good. Not sure if I would go out of my way to order from here but would stop by if Im passing through and was craving some Carribean food.

Usually the meat portions they serve is small and the food just got way to expensive but the worst part is they dont season the food I mean the seasoning not expensive to buy so why, anyway thanks to that I got home with a oxtail and cow foot that taste so plain that it went to straight trash! wont eat there anymore.
Patties are the best! Definitely a runner up from Randy s Patties. With that being said.. please consider hiring new staff. Every time I go in there I m faced with looking at people with sour faces. If a customer is greeting you with a smile, you should do the same. You are running a business. Be happy! You don t have to be miserable all the time by the way.. it s not just one person either. That alone makes me not even want to go in. I just bite my tongue because I want the patties. But please fix your guys attitude.
Ordered rice and peas with oxtail. Meat was very fatty and rice was mushy like baby food. Did not enjoy it at all. Their patties and soups are delicious though.

Fantastic Jamaican food and patties.
Its been over 20 years since I last visited P.Jays, so many things haved changed. It is brighter and fresher with multiple workers. Food was of high quality except not spiced enough for me. However in the past there were bottles of hot sauce on the counter to add as much spice as you would like. Servings were hearty and good value for your money.

Great jamaican food. I had the jerk pork and jerk chicken meals. My family enjoyed it. I received rice and peas, coleslaw and fried plantain with the meal. Location cant be seen from the road, as it is located in the middle/inside of the plaza. I used Google maps and I was able to figure it out.
My go to patty place. Been coming here for years. I Always get the Frozen beef patty box $19/dozen so I can enjoy It at home whenever I want. Pop it in the oven at 400F for 20-25 min and it s like being transported to Jamaica. The outside is nice and crispy and the beef filling actually has spice to it. There are also vegetable and chicken options. I don t have pictures of a baked patty because I can t wait to eat it each time, I always forget to snap a photo first!! I ll try to remember next time and add it to the review.

For my first time at P Jays I had a very pleasant experience . The food is served hot and fresh the faculty is very neat clean and organized .. customer service is amazing .. I loved the beef patty and red pea soup that they had on the menu I will be back to try many more of their food options . The test was finding this location . It is not easily seen from the street and there is no signs to show it s located off Kennedy .i was brought here by a friend that was familiar with the restaurant . Still smiling and thankful for being brought for my patty ..
Food tasted good but for the price the small goat portion size was smaller than I expected. The plantain was ripe and sweet. I wasn t a fan of the coleslaw.
Personally love the patties from here!! Have only been able to ever try just the beef tho....lookin forward to eventually being able to try the chicken as well, but the beef is nice!!!

First time here and I must say, it didn t disappoint. I ve tried many Jamaican restaurants around and this one tasted the most authentic to what I remember from Jamaica. Patty is also very juicy and tasted super fresh. I had the small curried goat and it was flavourful and filling. Will definitely go back and recommend to others.

I have been going to PJ s for years now . Myself and my boyfriend but today Thursday I ordered some fricassee chicken and observe not one but two of these long hair looking things mix in with the chicken. I throw one out but when I saw the other I dump the meal . I was nauseous.
Unless you feel like waiting 40 mins for 12 Pattie s I suggest going elsewhere

Yuuuuummmy !! Love the food here their rice and peas is the bomb! Has this fluff to it and its soooo good ! Ive never ate rice and peas like these guys and Ive eaten Jamaican food plenty of times! Its worth going and going again ! The girl whos at the front she is soft spoken however she is great !! Answers questions if you need to ask! Also one thing u better have cash they only take cash its a small joint but its worth checking out! You wont be disappointed! Still need to try their jerk heard its good but they run out quick time so that can suck sometimes they can be done serving jerk chicken by 3 pm which sucks as they only stay open till 6 :( please stay open later on the weekday until 8 pm at least would be nice :) lol .. Anyhow give them a try I will be coming back soon again !! There patty is good too cant complain and they make it there too from what Im told!!!

Of all the restaurants I have visited in Scarborough for Jerk pork/chicken/oxtail, I believe P Jays has the best Jerk Pork that I have eaten. I highly recommend it to anyone.

(Order was from May 2020) my friend put me on to these patties and so I bought them for my family and they loved them! When I used to eat them I remember it having the perfect amount of spice and flavour. Combination between runny and firm filling it was perfect! Had their veggie patty and loved the spice in their as well. The patty crust is one of my faves for sure!
Food is good. Unfortunately, I probably wont be visiting much as I typically cant satisfy the cash only requirement (especially during these times where card tap is preferred/more sanitary)
Love their patties, although the meat was getting very jelly at one point but seems good now. They definitely need to get another method of payment besides cash. The lady in the front has never had a good attitude, no acknowledgement when someone comes in and no words. Im trying to support restaurants in these trying times and she could at least smack a damn smile on her face, so typical.
Its been a long time since Ive been to PJays. Their food is outstanding but its a bit out of the way for me to get to. Hmmm, what do I order? Lets see... Curry Goat, Oxtail, Stew Chicken, and Jerk Pork, all with Rice and Peas and Coleslaw. Of course, I had to get some of their patties, ranked as one of the best in Toronto! All the food was delicious, as expected. The portions were generous and prices were very reasonable. The patties were excellent, one of the best in the city! Ive known Patrick, the owner, for many years. Our dads were good friends who enjoyed a good game of mah jong. Patrick and I prefer golf. If you love good Jamaican food, give them a try!

Patty prices have gone up, which is fine, but now they re cheaping out on the meat filling. Bought a couple boxes a few weeks ago and patties are all crust with a little ball of meat in the center!! Come on guys, go back to your decent portion cause you do have the best patties!

I got the oxtail and there beef patty.. it was reallllyyy good.. and today I got the jerk chicken and red peas soupp and it was also amazingg.. my next thing to try is there curry goat and I cant waittttt.. Ive been to almost every caribean restaurant in Scarborough and this place tops it all... Highly recommend for anyone looking for a good caribean restaurant in Scarborough!!

Hard to find the store as its in an alley way. The jerk pork is pretty good, the jerk flavour goes though the meal not just on the surface.

I thought this place would be good because of the reviews... this is my first time going here... the rice was mushy like mashed potato and the chicken was dry and tough. The gravy for the stew chicken was sweet and didn t really have much flavour. I wanted to badly to like this place :(

WOW! What an amazing beef patty. Fresh, steaming hot, amazing filling (it had a little gravy too) and it did not taste frozen at all. My buddy has been urging me to eat here and finally I did. Best way to describe the patty, real authentic with a real Jamaican feel to the original patty. I also had there large jerk chicken with the rice and peas, plantains, and coleslaw: amazing. Everything was fresh, fresh, fresh and tasted really healthy. Customer for life. Well done: I rarely give 5 stars! Plaza has lots of free parking, only 2 people in the facility at one time, lineup outside, CASH ONLY (no debit, no credit) NO ATM IN THE PLAZA AVAILABLE.

Ordered the oxtail, jerk chicken and rice & peas for a birthday event. The food was good but the oxtail was a hit. Everyone enjoyed it and thought it was better than other Jamaican takeout restaurants. Patrick the owner was very helpful and friendly. Highly recommend this place.
The best beef patties in town!
A really good, no-frills, take out spot. Go for their beef patties. Cant go wrong with their patties. I often buy half a dozen to a dozen everytime I am there..they are that good! They make great jerk chicken too so cant go wrong with that option too. Their rice and peas is basic rice and peas. They make some good pea soup though so if you like soups try that as well.
Always see people getting lunch from the place. they should put a sign out. It is hidden inside the plaza!!

Red peas soup used to be the best around. Now too often watered down and good luckif its even hot after 1pm. Will still go, just early and not as frequent.

Initially searched on google for a new restaurant to try since I was unfamiliar with the area and took a leap of faith I usually dont order oxtail and rice and peas from jamaican restaurants because most of them are tasteless but I must say Pjays definently raised the bar wish I took a picture but the food was too good I couldnt take a break the presentation with the coleslaw and plantain blew me away like that is unheard will definently drive an extra 50 mins for this again! Also service was very quick

Food is always fresh. The consistency of flavours is amazing. I have been coming here for years. Have tried all there food and everything is delicious. They have the usual oxtail, curry goat, fricase chicken, jerk chicken and pork. Fridays is stew peas.

The patties were great, but the food was not so good. The soup was $9 very high price that had no meat lots of dumplings and potatoes. Oxtail was better but again small portion but the plantains kicked it up a notch. The patties and the plantains was the savior

Ive only been here for the patties. My first time here was when I was in highschool. I had to drive to get here so I didnt visit to often. About two months ago at work someone reminded me of this place so I decided to go back. The patties are just as I remembered. Full and flavourful. Im definitely not going to forget about this place again.

People often say nothing in life is perfect but I disagree, because the beef patties from Pjays definitely are. Just be careful not to burn your mouth as the patties are hot and fresh. Next time I come I will try the jerk chicken as well. I m not lying this is home to THE best beef patty I ever had in my life. Also the lady was very friendly.

PJays has been a Scarborough staple for years for those who like great tasting Caribbean cuisine. The prices and portions are comparable to other places with the same fare but its the taste that keeps this place open after all these years. Only reason I didnt give 5 stats is due to the fact that they still only accept cash.
This is my go to place for the real Jamaican patty experience. Its a worth the drive from Pickering.

Fricasse chicken is fabulous. Pattys are fantastic but just so people know since they seem to be unaware...the pattys they sell are Randys pattys. Pjays just sell them out of their restaurant.

patties, oxtail, goat curry are all great. I think it is a bit pricey for the amount of food. If it was a choice between PJ or Chris Jerk, I would probably go with Chris Jerk because the taste is there and I got more food for the same price.
