Celebrated a birthday here and had a great time. Our host was fun and engaging. The chef and his assistant were also very engaging giving they place a great atmosphere. The food had a lot of variety with unique little details which I loved. Would recommend and would come back
Was there on a Thursday for the $190 Omakase course and was full by the time we were done. Fresh fish with really good Sake pairing described fully by the amazing waitress. Really amazing service...well worth trying...also special crab menu coming up.
Celebrated a birthday here and the whole experience was amazing. Staff were friendly and attentive. Had great conversations with the chef. Best omakase in Scarborough/Markham area. Truly authentic experience. Highly recommended!
The sushi were very high quality. Fish was cut very thick with just the right amount of rice. They had many types of uni for us to try. The appetizers served before the sushi were delicious. We were very satisfied overall.
We were amazed by our experience at Shizuku! It was our first time having omakase & it was a great introduction. The menu was well thought out & had a great mix of different textures and flavours. It was such a treat trying food we’ve had before at a premium quality. I’m also really happy I got to try roe and uni for the first time. My favourites were the crisp on the tilefish, the brightness of the roe, & tenderness of the firefly squid & tiger prawn! The chef was informative & mindful of different preferences. Service was incredibly friendly & top notch! The restaurant has a clean & calm atmosphere, with great table setting & dinnerware. We had the shizuku experience with yuzu sake for our anniversary. At the end, they gave us a little menu with the dishes, the date, and a greeting for our anniversary which was so adorable. We would definitely celebrate another special occasion at Shizuku! Thank you Shizuku team!
Really enjoy the experience here. I love the cozy and elegant atmostphere. The chef and the server are really friendly and caring about my experience. The food is delicious and fresh. Everything is worth for the price. Will come back again!!!
Located in Scarborough, ON in a rundown strip plaza. The interior decor was very calming and has a modern Japanese Zen feel. Full house is 9-10 seatings, all counter seats. The cutleries are well set and china are authentic Japanese. Our Omakase starts with 3 appetizers and about 10 pieces of sashimi. We find most fishes are light-bodied and flavours are not too strong and could use a bit more soy sauce and wasabi. We were told most of the fishes are from Japan, and the Uni is from Russia processed in Hokkaido. There are good surprises with a few items other than raw fishes, such as the puff with monkfish liver, the kanpyo maki and grill cod milt. The charcoal flavoured O-toro is excellent but the chu-toro was a bit too soft. The sake menu is extensive and prices start from $130 a bottle. We found 13 out of the 22 bottles of sake are made from Yamada Nishiki, which is a premium rice used to make premium sake. All in all it was a good experience. 2 Omakase menu available : $190 & $260. We had the former one.
Had a great experience at Shizuku, came with the wife and we both loved it. Food was great, the server was incredibly smart and responsive topping off water throughout the night and offering great selections of Sake. The chef did an amazing job selecting the options, come with an open mind as you’ll probably eat something you’ve never had before!
Best omakase in Toronto The service is very considerate and the freshest and most delicious sushi I have ever eaten And there are also some novel dishes Finally, the tips are collected based on the amount and not the percentage, which is also very thoughtful. Even if you come alone, you won t be left out. praise!
good quality. cozy. very pleasant.
Still dreaming about their uni and monk fish s liver puff. We added an extra course which was the abalone and it was out of this world.
Matcha chocolate dessert went cwazy
First time having omakase and I am glad it was here! The chef and staff were super attentive and friendly. Love love loved the food. I absolutely enjoyed every part of the experience and was left feeling very full at the end! will be coming back again! Highly recommend!
Always a delight here, atmosphere is intimate, food is exquisite with complex layers brought out with fresh ingredients. Sake pairing is perfect as well. Both the chefs and servers do it with passion. Quite a gem.
Everything is very fresh and well prepared. The sake pairing is excellent. Dont be fooled by their location. The entrance looks old from outside but well maintained internally. Food : 5/5
I m happy and full
Best Japanese omakase spot in the GTA.
A most memorable experience! All hits, no filler.
Great hidden gem located in Scarborough. It is far from downtown, however the food is incredible that I highly recommend you checking this place out. You will not be disappointed. Thank you to chef and staff members on such an eventful experience. I enjoyed all the courses and the matcha dessert was delicious!
Great restaurant! Very creative menu along with a traditional and modern take to eating sushi! Must try
We had the Shizuku experience and it was fantastic, one of the top omakase experiences weve been to before. Chef Kazuki was thoughtful and engaging, and the fish was mindblowingly fresh and delicious. Would highly recommend to all looking for a special dining event.
My first omakase experience. Chef Kazuki was very friendly and inviting. All his staff were pleasant and did not miss a beat in service. The 18 course Yuki menu was well prepared with a diverse selection. My favourite was the cherry trout and the optional order of uni. Highly recommend this unique experience.
Incredible value for the quality of the food they re serving from the very welcoming and highly skilled chef kazuki
good food
High quality food and services. One chef serves only maximum 6-7 people per time. The fish is rarely eaten in other Japanese restaurants since it comes from Japan and different countries. We ordered pairing sake which is delicious and all produced from Japan
One of the best sushi restaurants in Toronto.
Recently celebrated my husbands birthday at this restaurant, and it was an absolute delight! The food was beyond fantastic, each dish a masterpiece. The chefs creativity truly shone through, making it a culinary journey worth savoring. The service was impeccable attentive and friendly without being intrusive. The staff enhanced the overall experience, contributing to the warm and inviting atmosphere. Were already planning to go back. The omakase experience here was not just a meal; it was a celebration of flavors, skillfully crafted, and served with a touch of elegance. Highly recommended for any special occasion or when youre craving an unforgettable dining experience!
One of the best sushi I ve ever had. This restaurant is A1!
Wonderful dining experience from start to finish. Customer service was exceptional and the food was on point.
Very creative dishes! The chef is professional and humble. Highly recommended
Amazing omakase experience with Chef and Jay. This hidden gem outside Toronto is the place to stop by when visiting the city. Its worth the detour as Chef and Jay will take you on an unforgettable experience through their knowledge of fish and sake.
Excellent experience with excellent service! Don t let the parking lot fool you. It was nerve wracking parking next to a u-haul pickup place but once you open the door, you re greeted to the cutest and most intimate space! There were only 4 of us in the restaurant and it was an amazing experience. The chef and his sous chef were excellent in explaining the dishes, and the waitress was so kind and attentive. The chef is very kind and humble, but is clearly an artist in his work. The best omakase experience in the city!
A great experience, food was fresh and very delicious, some unique dishes as well that were a very interesting experience. The chef was welcoming and explained each course as it came and the service was phenomenal. Would highly recommend trying it!
Hidden gem in Scarborough. Hands down the best sushi in town, especially for its price. Both ankimo dishes (simmered and puff) were out of this world!! Definitely ask chef if he has any off menu items for add on because those are the best.
Cozy, delicious, amazing Japanese food! We came here for a special dinner, and it was fantastic. Great friendly service, our waitress had amazing recommendations for sake, it was delicious. Their service was amazing, they were practically ninjas when refilling your drink, or removing dishes, and cleaning up. Even ducking out of pictures if they noticed you were taking a selfie! When you needed them they were instantly there to fulfill whatever you needed. The food! Amazing sushi and other new and adventurous Japanese dishes. Chef Kazuki made amazing and unique dishes. We ve had a few fantastic omakase experiences, and this one was one of the best! Got to try some new things we ve never had before. All delicious, fresh and creative.
The restaurant is located in a very unassuming location, which I love. I came for my birthday, and upon arrival, the host was very welcoming and warm. The restaurant only seats about 8 or 9 people, which makes the ambiance of the meal very quiet and private. Unfortunately, on our night, we had 3 other guests who disrespectfully were on their phones the entire meal and made our conversation seem that much louder and for everyone to hear. The food was delicious and well presented on lovely dishware. The meal consisted of more decadent ingredients (i.e., foie gras, anikmo, roe, etc) than most omakases Ive been to, which personally Im more partial to a lighter fare. The chef and host were very attentive and meticulous. Unfortunately, the chef not being very fluent in English had struggled to explain any questions we had regarding the dishes, but the host was more than happy to explain on his behalf. Overall, it was a great experience. I would have loved a more lively atmosphere to not feel as if we needed to whisper or be silent throughout the meal.
Shizuku was amazing! We had an awesome time here, everyone from Chef Kazuki to the staff were friendly and funny. We really enjoyed the gentle and calm atmosphere. Everything on the omakase menu ($175 per person) was amazing! Our favorite was the ankimo puff, it was sweet and puffy with the complimentary filling inside. The tuna hand roll also melted in our mouths! The shirako was interesting, a creamy delicacy I ve never tried at other omakases before. We celebrated our one year anniversary here, and we got daifuku as our dessert - which was chewy right up to the core. The matcha chocolate was also intensely rich. Everything about this place was perfect. I d really recommend it to anyone who s looking for good omakase. It did not disappoint. We will be back!
A wonderful Omakase experience in Canada!!
Attention to details, simplistic decor, attentive service. This hidden gem omakase deserves more than a 5-star at this price point. We visited in Mar 2023. The menu changes every 4-6 weeks and depends on availability so don t expect getting the same thing I had in my photos. Food is amazing, not the very traditional (and boring) omakase where they only serve nigiri sushi. The ankimon puff definitely live up to the hype! Ice plate is one of a kind and I have never seen or taste it at any omakase before. The chef is young yet very knowledgeable in the ingredients and food preparation skills. There s a lady who works both behind the sushi bar and also in the kitchen makes really good mochi dessert. Our server (also the sommelier) is very knowledgeable with sake and explains each dish to us very well. You can taste and tell the amount of attention, love and passion put into this restaurant and food. Will definitely come back again to try new menu!
My friends took me here for my birthday and we really enjoyed it. The food was very fresh and delicious. They had many unique dishes and seafood you don t see at other omakase restaurants. You can tell the chef put a lot of thought and effort into creating the menu which changes every 4-6 weeks. The staff were super friendly and had a great sense of humor. We will definitely be going back!
I m not usually one to post public reviews, but I shockingly saw a 1 star on here and thought I d share my own experience. The ambiance is sleek, modern and intimate, while the omakase is fresh and delicious. The sake pairings were also amazing, with our host expertly answering our various questions about the sake breweries. No pretense from the team here, only an excellent balance of food, service, and decor. Would gladly dine here again.
Highly recommend!
Finally, some good f**king food! This place blew my expectations in every single way. I came here for my birthday with a small group of friends with some of them being new to omakase and some being omakase veterans and everyone left feeling absolute bliss. We got the Yuki omakase experience that came with 18 seasonal selections of seafood as well as the sake pairing. What I really appreciated about every single dish was the fact that I ve never tried a lot of them before, but all the flavour combinations just made sense and tasted amazing. Liver usually isn t the first thing you think of when you think delicious (or maybe it is) but the ankimo shu - monkfish liver puff was actually one of my favourite dishes along with the otoro and negitoro. All the sake pairings were also top notch with the Nichi Nichi being my favourite. It went down super smooth and had the slightest hint of carbonation which made it super interesting. Chef Kazuki and Jay along with the rest of the Shizuku team were very professional and friendly during the whole experience. Jay was highly knowledgeable on all the food and sake offerings breaking down all the properties of each item and their intricate histories. One thing I was worried about was leaving feeling like I still had space for more but that definitely was not the case both food and drink wise I couldn t possibly recommend this place enough to any omakase enjoyers or people looking to try omakase for the first time!
This was my second omakase experience. Im always amazed by the single dishes. Its really delicious! The chefs were easy to talk to and taught me a lot. There was a wide variety of drinks, the servers were friendly, and the atmosphere was nice. thank you very much. Im looking forward to seeing you next time!
Wonderful Dining Experience with Friends! I recently visited Shizuku Japanese Restaurant with a group of friends, and we had an absolutely delightful time. The restaurants ambiance was fantastic, creating a sophisticated atmosphere that added to the overall experience. The omakase meal we had was beyond satisfying. It was by far the most filling omakase I have ever had. Each dish was a pleasant surprise, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavor. The chefs at Shizuku truly know how to create dishes that both amaze and satisfy the taste buds. The service was excellent, with attentive staff members who were knowledgeable about the menu and provided helpful recommendations. The waitstaff ensured that we were well taken care of throughout the evening, enhancing the overall enjoyment of the meal. Overall, I highly recommend Shizuku Japanese Restaurant for anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience. The combination of the incredible atmosphere, the outstanding omakase menu, and the attentive service make it a top choice. I cant wait to return and explore more of their culinary delights!
Ive been to Shizuku multiple times already! For sure it is one of the best omakase in Toronto. They always have such a good variety of fresh seafood and sake. The service here is always super friendly. I also really like their signature ankimo puff, one of the best ways to enjoy ankimo! I always recommend my friends to come back here! Chef Kazuki and Jay, the manager, always gives me and my friends the best experience when we go there.
Out of all omakase I ve been to in both Canada and the US, Shizuku is definitely on top of my list. I tried their Yuki experience and I loved it. Their food was amazing, high quality with only seasonal seafood which keeps their menu unique. The overall vibe and the interactions I had with both staff members and the chef everything was a gem there. They also give you a personalized menu at the end of your meal which is a nice memoir to keep. Highly recommended, do give them a visit!!
Ingredients were fresh and high-quality. I m an uni lover and they happened to have three types of uni the night I visited!! One was already included in the course I had so I added on the other two. They all tasted unique and amazing. The toro was my other favourite. This place is a gem! You won t be able to find similar experience in the city at this price point.
Food and service was exceptional! Highly recommend!
We had a wonderful time celebrating my husbands birthday. The service was very attentive and we got to try many different kinds of in season fish! The fish liver puff was definitely our favourite dish of the night. Such a hidden gem in Scarborough. Cant wait to go again!
Always a great experience with the ever changing menu! The sake recommendations are phenomenal as well!
We had an incredible dining experience at Shizuku. Everything was fresh and tasty. Will definitely come back.
A Genuine Omakase Gem Upon entering Shizuku, the first thing I noticed was its sophisticated yet welcoming atmosphere. Every corner exudes attention to detail, and the staff is courteous, making sure youre well-accommodated. The Omakase here is an authentic showcase of the culinary artistry that this cuisine demands. With each course, I could taste the freshness of the ingredients, and the expertise with which each dish was prepared was evident. Everything is seasoned to perfection, balancing the delicate flavors in a way thats both pleasing to the palate and memorable. What enhanced the dining experience further was the exceptional sake pairing. Each pour was thoughtfully chosen to complement the flavors of the dishes, accentuating specific notes that may have otherwise gone unnoticed. The staff possesses an impressive knowledge about their sake selection, offering insights that added to the appreciation of each glass. Moreover, the seamless flow from one dish to the next was admirable, keeping the evening smooth and engaging. There wasn t a moment where I felt rushed or left waiting for too long, a balance thats crucial in such dining experiences. Shizuku is not just about the food but the entire experience. Its evident that the team takes pride in their craft, from sourcing quality ingredients to the presentation on the plate. For anyone looking for an authentic Omakase experience with a focus on quality and tradition, I cant recommend Shizuku enough. It s a restaurant where every bite speaks volumes, and the sake flows in perfect harmony with the dishes. A visit here isn t just dining; it s an immersion into a rich culinary tradition.
I went here for my birthday. I ve been to 6 omakase restaurants in the GTA so far and this one is one of my favourites. Their toro is super delicious and flavourful and their signature ankimo shu dish was amazing. Highly recommend! I hope to come back again to try their next seasonal menu!
Thank you for the experience! I really enjoyed the intimacy of the space, the friendliness of the staff and the unique courses that were served! All the dishes were thoroughly explained, and the questions I had were answered in depth. Will definitely come again.
Got their $190pp omakase and everything was perfect
Very delicious Not a cheap omakase, but definitely worth the price. Very cost-effective The ingredients are great The service is very enthusiastic Will come next time
theres nothing shizuku come close to the previous sushiya. ive been to the previous chef owner chef gee s four times and it was very hard not to compare. the first thing i recognized when i went into shizuku was the overwhelming smell of frying. i couldn t keep wondering why a sushiya would have such pungent smell of fried food. maybe from staff meal? i have no clue. secondly, when we walked in, there was no greeting, not even a nodding nor eye contact from the chef, not until he started to serve 15 mins later. the reason was the chef was busy entertaining other extremely loud customer whom like to share comments on every wine and dishes to everybody and obviously had hard time to understand the vibe difference between izakaya and omakase. as for sushi, shari was a little lose and temperature was not right. i found some sushi contain more wasabi than other pieces. also, for $175, there is no akami, chutoro, kurumaebi, anago nor kanpyo maki, u need to pay extra for those. if it has been mentioned before reservation, it s totally understandable but now im in a total awk. since most of them were on the salty side, i could not taste the umami and finesse in omasake i used to have in asia. if u want true omakase experience, save money and eat in japan instead of trying omakase in TO. dont say ppl did not give u any heads up.
Highly recommend. Chef and assistant very skilled and delivers an excellent experience and great conversations Food
Try it yourself. I heard someone had 36 course and one 720ml Sake.
True hidden gem!!! It was one of the best Omakase experiences in Toronto. The chef was very nice explained each dish extremely well super accommodating. This is one of the only omakase places I would suggest to go more than once!
One of the best omakase experiences I ve had. The food was all fresh and everything tasted beyond amazing!!! I especially loved the monk fish liver pastry (dream worthy) and the fact that the chef was able to pivot smoothly to accommodate someone not being able to take a certain type of fish. I thought that was particularly masterful and smooth. I d already started planning my next visit before I d even left!
Calling this place a hidden gem would be an understatement. We visited to celebrate a special occasion and the staff excelled at making it an incredible evening. Service was incredibly efficient and hospitable without being overbearing. The atmosphere is welcoming and perfectly sets up the entire experience. The entire menu is carefully curated for different flavours and textures for a unique culinary journey from beginning to end. The chef who is both knowledgeable about every aspect of the food (down to seasonal characteristics) is also charismatic and welcoming as a host. We had the wonderful opportunity to experience new foods and ingredients that we would never have tried otherwise. Special mention goes to the signature puff pastry dish as well as the matcha desserts. We look forward to returning again for an incredible experience with friends.
experience has gotten even better. one of the best sushi restaurants at par with the top ones in Toronto. would recommend the 22 course menu with sake pairing
Tried Shizuku as my first Omakase experience to celebrate my Birthday and my S/O and I s Anniversary. The experience was really lovely and intimate; we had the premium course set and the food was delicious, and the service was excellent. The chef was very attentive to how we were reacting to the dishes and would always make sure that we were enjoying ourselves. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a lovely Omakase experience and will try to be back someday for more!
I loved every single part of the experience. Went there with my girlfriend and we felt we were back in Japan! I can t recommend this place enough. Will definitely be there again.
Left extremely happy. The service was impeccable, the dishes were extraordinary, and compared to other omakase experiences in the city, the price was very competitive. Talented team who are knowledgeable, using high quality ingredients from Japan
We came here for my daughters birthday and we were so glad we picked this place. Chef Kodie prepared each course with precision and grace. It was a treat just watching him move around kitchen. The restaurant has a minimalist but intimate experience, with only eight seats for each seating. The service manage was super attentive, always filling up our tea cups and explaining dishes. He know a lot of sake too. At to food, all we can say is wow. My daughter is a foodie and she gave a big thumb up. Our favourite dishes were the hand roll and rice with squid and scallops. So if you are craving for Japanese tasting menu that doesn t require a trip to downtown Toronto, book a seat with Shizuku while this hidden gem is not widely known to GTA foodies.
It was a sad moment when Nishinokaze shuttered its doors for sushi-lovers everywhere in the city. Thankfully, from its ashes rises Shizuku. Chef Kazuki has taken the helm at the former Nishinokaze location with a good combination of traditional flavours and creative, more contemporary takes on familiar dishes in his omakase. I was particularly a fan of the uni & spot prawn marinated with xiaoxing wine as well as a magical choux puff with a very special ingredient inside. This is a very intimate space that seats less than 10, and is reservation-only. Like Nishinokaze, Im sure it will become quite busy as more find out about this hidden gem in Scarborough.
I went here a day after opening day at 6 pm (the other service is at 8:30 PM). It was a very classy and intimate experience. Decor was neat and minimalist. The service was top notch from the waiter. I had the sake pairing along with the omakase experience. The rationale for every sake pairing was explained carefully and was tentatively topped up throughout the meal. The food itself was phenomenal. Each serving of food was sourced from high quality suppliers and carefully prepared. For example, for the sushi, the fish temperature was slightly cool (perfect!), cut properly and served on high quality sushi rice where you could taste the individual grains. Apart from drinks and food, the washroom was cleaned after each use. Love it! This is probably the best sushi restaurant that currently exists in Scarborough. Will definitely come here again!
Best Sushi in The City
Incredible meal and service. Honestly, a therapeutic experience to sit back and watch the chef do his thing.
Great atmosphere, highest quality ingredients used. Soothing music in the background. Chef was very pleasant.
I was there for my bday dinner on 2nd Sep with my bf, food, service, n everything was a memorable one.
Hands down, one of the best Omakaze experiences in Toronto!!! We will be back!! Parking: Tons of parking spots available
Absolutely disappointed. No way near the precedent sushi Nishinokaze. Long story short, mediocre food, no greeting from the chef, no eye contact until he started to serve, only attentive to the regular (loud and annoying). Literally, can t wait to get out of the restaurant as quickly as humanly possible. The one star is only for one of the waitresses, who carry in depth knowledges about sake and provided excellent service.
There is lack of authentic Omekase sushi and sashi restaurant in Scarbourough, and here is one.
Love this new intimate sushi omakase spot! The fish was fresh and the chef was very interactive. This is definitely a very different experience as the chef does not use traditional style/flavours/techniques or pairings. It was a really unique and delicious experience. I definitely recommend this place and would be returning different seasons to try other fishes!
Amazing omakase experience. Loved every single item that was served. Got the sake pairing and every glass was great. Jay is really knowledgable about all things sake. Really enjoyed the tempura shirako, I have never had it prepared in a tempura form. The puff pastry with monkfish was also incredible. After the omakase, I got a top up of all the other items I didn t get to try as part of the menu! Ginger was also home marinated and delicious, could not stop eating it. Would definitely recommend. Will be coming back!!
