Mapo Gamjatang is a Korean restaurant that serves authentic Korean food and specializes in pork bone soup. We use the same recipes that have been passed down through three generations and enjoyed by customers for over fifty years at Mapo House, a restaurant located in the Namseongsagye Market in Seoul, renowned for its delicious pork bone soup.
Absolute Hidden Gem. I'll drive here just for their pork bone soup. Meat is so tender it falls from the bone and soup is very rich. They don't skimp out on vegetables either.
We ordered the pork bone soup stove top for 2 persons portion. The pork bones are tender and soft. The soup is flavorful. The vegetables are fresh. There are glass noodles and rice cakes as well. If they have 4 potato instead of 2 will be awesome. All in all, it is a satisfying meal.
We order pork bone soup, fried chicken and bogogi. Everything was fine but nothing out of the world. The pork bone soup was too salty for me and it lacks other flavors but the portions were big. The rest of the food was ok but nothing too special.
We ordered the Mapo Gamjatang Jeongol and liked the pork bone soup with vegetables. It was good for 2-3 persons and had still extra to go. The vegetables were fresh and lots of meat. One of the best pork bone soup I tasted.
I *really* liked this place. I think this was one of the rare places that I actually drank all the soup afterwards. Most often in other places I find the soup at the end to be either too salty or just spicy with no actual depth in flavor. This was different. I've seen mixed reviews on how spicy the food is and I can take spice and I found the 1 chili level of spice perfect for me. It wasn't the intense, tastebud numbing kind of spice, but rather a more warm, gentle spice that takes a bit to kick in but really levels out smoothly. My wife can't handle spice as well and she found it okay. They have a small menu but from my experience it seems like what they do, they do well. Would love to come back here again to try the other items on their menu.
My husband and I’s favorite gamjatang place! Pork bone soup has been one of our favorite comfort foods and this place never disappoints! 😋 I especially love the leafy green toppings, enoki mushroom, rice cake, the flavorful broth and the tender meat! 😋
The place was packed but we were seated fairly quickly. The food had large portions and were all fairly priced. The side dishes were delicious and they gave us refills too. The pork bone soup was flavourful, authentic and very tender. The kalguksu was tasty with high quality noodles. The tonkatsu was also very tender. The servers were all very kind and the food came quickly, we would come back!
Mapo Gamjatang exceeded my expectations with its outstanding pork bone soup – undoubtedly one of the best I've ever had! The rich, flavorful broth and tender pork make it so enjoyable, especially if you like your pork bone soup with a bit of spice to it. Additionally, the Dakganjeong chicken stole the show with its perfect balance of juiciness and crispiness, leaving me wanting more. The cleanliness of the restaurant is commendable, enhancing the overall experience. K-pop tunes added a lively touch, the volume was a tad too high though, making conversation a bit challenging. Service is extremely friendly ensures that you have everything you need to enjoy your meal.
Food is good especially hot and the place is cozy to enjoy the food.
I ordered an ordinary-sized pork bone soup set and a special spicy fried chicken. It was delicious and the waiter was very enthusiastic. But it would be difficult for one person to try more dishes. The portion is suitable for sharing among many people, and there is nothing else. So picky (maybe fried chicken is more expensive?)
The food is always delicious, and we keep coming back for it. However, the server today seemed like they were upset with the world. It was hard to talk to them properly they seemed angry and didnt even know how to say thank you or anything.
We ordered two servings of gamjatang and a steamed egg dish, but the greens were dry, and the soup was lukewarm. The steamed egg was overpriced with a poor portion size and lacked the taste and presentation of a homemade version. The tall, thin male server was not friendly. I wouldn t want to go back again!
ordered rice cake and gamjatang for take out. Rice cake was mediocre. Gamjatang tastes like they cooked it with ramen seasoning bag. And the pork is flavorless. Cant believe how they manage to butcher a dish that should be easy.
The food was ABSOLUTELY delicious! The service was amazing and the atmosphere was very cozy will come again!
Wow! This place is really good. My wife love gamjatang and I orderered tonkatsu, taste great! I ordered online and food is ready in 15min. This place is a must try.
Food was mediocre and wasnt good value for money. Only two staff members who had absolutely no sense of service. We sat for a long time without being given a menu, and when we waved to get their attention, it seemed like they couldnt see us. They had no expression on their faces. The staff cleared dishes from tables with loud clattering, completely ignoring the fact that there were customers still eating nearby. Wont be dining at this restaurant again.
enjoyed the soup and bulgogi, was here a month ago and came back for more
Its quite yummy.
Ordered Ppyojjim, steamed eggs, dakgangjung, tonkatsu, and rice balls for group of adults and kids. Ppyojjim was the highlight of the meal and all adults enjoyed the meal. Overall great food and service. The restaurant had good atmosphere and was clean as well (good clean toilet gets extra points). Ppyojjim was quite spicy - I suggest asking for less spiciness as the kitchen does accomodate for your palate nicely.
Got the classic gamjatang with ramyeon. Great pork bone broth and portion size. One of my favourite places to eat pork bone soup :)
Great food! Would recommend it!
Mapo Gamjatang has the best pork bone soup in toronto. The food is delicious, but what makes this restaurant even more amazing are the waitresses customer service skills. Their customer service is beyond amazing, and they always give me a very pleasant experience every time I visit. If you are looking for authentic korean pork bone soup, go to Mapo Gamjatang.
As a non korean , i ordered two dishes to go and they also gave me a side dish with it . I have tried the food before but today service experience was the worst . The lady packed the order and slammed on my table like I was begging or something. It was so disheartening. I mean people, your cultural is going places. Be polite and kind.
Really really good pork bone soup, possibly the best I ve had in Toronto. Very surprised at how good the food is here, even the kimchi was excellent. Service was fast too.
Amazing and authentic korean restaurant. Located inside a plaza with plenty of restaurants, typical of the Midland and Finch general area. About 8 tables inside so limited seating, but got in around lunch so it wasnt super busy. Everything is fairly priced, we ordered the Beef bulgogi, a gamjatang, chicken dumplings, and the sweet fried chicken. The beef was amazing, super tender and juicy with a great sauce. The star of the show was the fried chicken, just amazing crispy, sweet honey type sauce with a natural spice which was just wow. All around it was amazing and my parents especially loved the fresh tasting kimchi so much that they ordered take out, which can be bought in 800mb for 11 dollars or for cheaper by bulk.
I got the gamjatang as take out. It was so good! Especially the meat. The plentiful portion came with rice, kim chi and one side dish. I was surprised how good and hot it was as this is usually the kind of food I would have to eat in only. The kim chi was excellent. I will definitely order again!
Gamjatang Ramyeon: the portion is amazing, its the biggest gamjatang I ever had, loaded pork bone. Im glad that they didnt make it too spicy. The amount of ramen was enough for 2 people. The soup was really good for the price. Id definitely try more stuff here. Food
Ordered the large pot of pork bone soup. I honestly thought it tasted very average, and the size did not help. As the soup continued to cook, it rendered a lot of liquid out and it became more of a stew consistency. The banchan was also sad, 4 small dishes that were quite plain. Most other Korean restaurants would at least have some more garnish. Maybe the other items are better? But the name suggests different.
I like the fish cake, if they have tofu soup would be best
Gamjatang _ my favorite Korean meal.
The taste is very authentic and authentic Korean food. It is my favorite Korean restaurant.
Delicious
Really enjoyed the food here. The gamjatang was great, and had a massive portion of meat. The seafood pancake is also fantastic, especially at the price point. For this size of a seafood pancake, most other spots have it over $20, but this was was $16, which I found comparatively to be quite the deal. Also not pictured are the side dishes. They were all good. Usually there s one or two I m not a big fan of but I liked them all. The gamjatang also comes with a tangy, savoury soy sauce based dipping sauce, and I found it was a great way to mix up the flavours as you eat, and it helped cut through the soup really well.
Pork bone soup is top notch. Also, their kimchi is the best Ive had
The staff named Lia was very nice and very accommodating with our request to lessen the spicyness of the best seller pork bone soup. We came in during the day of the eclipse and we got the whole place to ourselves since they do not have any other customers at that time. Come here if you want to have the soup as it is really the best Gamjatang that Ive tried so far.
A small restaurant mainly provides pork bones soup, only two servers worked very hard and busy, sometimes ignoring the customers. We ordered the hotpot regular size with fried rice served at the end. Big portion. The taste is good.
One of the best gamjatang in the GTA. The portion was very generous, with plentiful of tender meat bones. Loved the side dishes as well, especially the creamy corn.
Great place for real Korean food.
Pork Bone Soup is a must try with chunks of meat that easily falls off the bone and served on a portable cook top to keep the soup warm, which is perfect for winter. It is said to have lots of health benefits. Large size is good for sharing with 4 or 5 person. They have limited items on their menu but they sell the best tteokbokki I have ever tried. Price is reasonable.
Very good and quick serving and delicious food..
DO NOT EAT HERE. This has been the most disappointing Korean restaurant I have ever tried. First of all, we waited very long for the food so I asked if we could get our side dishes to make up for the time waiting. Instead of politely saying no, the tall boy was very rude to us saying that side dishes are only served with the main dish. When we asked why, he said it is what it is in an extremely annoyed tone. The boy had a very bad temper and he was also breaking plates! In addition to the terrible service, the food was nothing special. They have a very small menu as their main focus is GamjaTang but the GamjaTang was not good at all! Very expensive too. Please save your time and money and don t eat at this restaurant. If you are the boss reading this, please FIRE that boy as he clearly does not have the patience to work at a restaurant.
Extremely disappointing food and service. Our waiter was very rude to us and the food had no flavour. Please do not eat here.
They DO NOT deserve their 4.5 star rating. They have a review program where you get a discount if you write a good review. The food is so boring with exceptionally high prices. The only thing on the menu is pork bone soup which tasted awful! I got the noodles which were very bland. Probably the worst pork bone soup I ve had in the city. I don t usually write reviews but I was so disappointed in both the food and the service. The male waiter was clearly not trained as he spoke to me with no respect. If the restaurant wants to succeed, I think he should be fired. Don t mistake the same mistake I did and visit this restaurant.
WORST pork bone soup IVE EVER HAD. Had EXPLOSIVE DIARRHEA (no, I dont have IBS, my gastrointestinal tract is fine). When I asked the server where the washroom was, they just glared at me and said something in Korean. I am CAUCASIAN (german on one side, irish on the other, 0.5% cherokee ) so OBVIOUSLY I didnt understand a LICK of what she said. Never eating here again.
The worst Korean restaurant in Scarborough. The food was extremely overpriced and the bad service was inexcusable. Especially the tall man who treated my family like garbage. I wanted to leave after he spoke to us but we already ordered so we stayed. Avoid this place
Mom and pop shop atmosphere, great service!
Amazing pork bone soup! Great service! Will be back!
Best pork bone soup in Canada! Service was great!
food is great and service is amazing!! highly recommend!!!
My go to korean soup place :) the location is always clean and the staff are always super welcoming and eagar to help. The food tastes amazing, but as you get towards the end of the bowl all the seasoning is on the bottom making it hard to finish. Def give this place a visit!!
Good customer service
Really consistently good food and service. Highly recommended.
Very good side dish
This was our second time at this restaurant. Food was delicious - we have ordered their gamjatang (their signature dishes), Korean steamed eggs, and crispy fried chickens this time. We like their gamjatang as you don t see the layer of spicy oil on top of their soup base, and tastes slightly different from others places which is the part like. Crispy fried chicken was good - crispy outside and juicy inside. We will come back again for the third time for sure. The store is a bit smaller compared to their other store at Yonge and Finch, there s a bit of wait time if you come right at the dinner time.
Very good
Very good soup! Really recommend it
We ordered the pork bone soup regular, enough for 2 to 3 people. Comes with the hot pot and heats up at the table. Peppery and scrumptious. Excellent meal!
I ate well and was full!! The store is really clean and the servers are friendly..
Its delicious
Tastes sooooo good!! Recommend it. I loved their Mapo bulgogi and their nice balls.
Omg very delicious! I never tried this kinda delicious Korean cuisine in my entire life!!!
r a dinner with a friend, I ordered the Regular size Mapo Gamjatang as well as a side of Korean rice balls, I have to say it was really good. The service was quick and the food came quickly and I was definitely surprised at the size of the portion. I think there was around 4-5 pork bones in the bowl as well as a good helping of rice. I was a little disappointed that the rice balls were self assembly, I was given gloves to make them. The rice was quite hot when it arrived so to mix them it took a while to cool down first. This resulted in a nice warm rice ball when finally made. We got a good helping of side dishes as well although we weren t approached about refilling so I m not sure if it is free refills. Lastly the restaurant isn t the largest but for coming on a Wednesday at 6:30 pm I was quickly seated and the restaurant stayed consistently busy. It wasn t overly loud but I did notice the speakers would play music that would continuously cut out. The ambiance made it fine for a good location to catch up with someone! I would definitely recommend going here for pork bone soup.
I am very shocked this Korean establishment has a 4.5 star rating. Generally, the food was beyond mediocre and the service was abysmal. Their speciality here is the gamjatang soup. If it is their speciality, you would expect the soup to be divine. This has to be the worst gamjatang I ever had in Toronto. Furthermore, it was also the most expensive gamjatang I ever had. The restaurant has a very limited menu, yet their prices are very high and it took them a long time to prepare the food. The restaurant was severely understaffed for the Valentine s Day holiday. There was only one waitress servicing the entire restaurant and the manager was the cashier. The manager would often forget what we asked. I can see the waitress tried her best to service every table but unfortunately, they need to hire at least 2 more people to help her. It was hard chasing the waitress down for service. The manager of this restaurant needs to properly staff people on busy nights. Unfortunately, I won t be coming here again due to this experience.
Fried chicken is great. However, they are stingy with the side dishes. You can only get side dishes when you order food from the first page of their menu. For example, I ordered fried chicken which cost about $30 whereas the pork bone soup on the first page is about $17. I didnt get side dishes. It doesnt make sense. Other Korean restaurants dont do this...
Good service and food. Highly recommend if you want spicy pork bone soup/gamjatang
Very good Korean pork here, one of the best. Service also very nice. Would recommend!
A small comfortable place that specializes in pork bone soup, which I find was excellent. Their broth is lighter and clearer than The Owl or Ka Chi, and without typical msg taste. Also excellent is the bulgogi. Again a lighter taste so the quality ingredients shine through. And they dont skimp on the enoki mushrooms either. Their menu is limited to variations of gamjatang, but highly recommended if thats what you like.
I love the food here, it s very tasty!!! The signature gamjatang and tonkatsu is very good, and there s a lot in each dishes, so makes us full really quick. Overall it was very very good!
we ordered signature gamjatang and tonkatsu and it is super good! I felt like gamjatang was a bit spicy for me so if you can t eat spicy food I recommend you order a drink. Tonkatsu is super crispy and I love the sauce. People here are super nice too!
This is our first time to try this new restaurant. Their gamjatang is really good, if you have 4 people go together, try the big portion with the pot. We all enjoyed the food here. I definitely recommend it to you if you like gamjatang.
Flawless Korean food. Extremely recommended.
The portion of mapo gamjang is large! pork bone is very tasty. 5 stars recommended!
best pork bone soup in town and great services. kids friendly atmosphere.
The food was great! The service is very good as well!
Great place to eat Korean food. Try the Mapo Gamjatang!
Very good service + wonderful portion ~
Nice vibes and good food :)
Good food. Love the tea.
Pork bone soup is good, not too fatty and the kimchi is perfectly seasoned.
Food are hot and delicious
The restaurant is very clean! Food is very tasty! The side dishes fish cake taste delicious! My kid ate a whole dish We love the Mapo Bulgogi is very yummy! service is very nice! we will definitely come back!!
While visiting canada for three weeks, it was the only restaurant we wanted to visit again! Visited the Sheppard location, loooooved ppyeojjim, and we were very satisfied with the fact that Scarborough location also had the same quality of food. Toppoki and Mandu were really really good too, to our surprises. I felt that toppoki was on par with or, if not better, compared to restaurants with toppoki specialty. Our toddlers also enjoyed various dishes (steamed egg, dakkangjung, donkatsu). It was very nice to find a restaurant where adults can enjoy addictive spicy food and children can enjoy their square meals. Kid-friendliness: Our toddlers also enjoyed various dishes (steamed egg, dakkangjung, donkatsu). It was very nice to find a restaurant where adults can enjoy addictive spicy food and children can enjoy their square meals.
We got the mapo Ppyeojjin for 2-3 ppl but it could definitely feed 4ppl lol it s huge size, I love the rice cakes in it! Tasted a bit too salty to my liking but overall pretty good. Meat falls off from the bones. Gamjatang is also good, not sure what spice is added, makes it taste special! Good place to hangout with friends
Great spot that should be busier than it is. Staff are nice and the food was great with generous portions.
Tastes delicious and really like the service. Would like to come again withe my friends.
Pork bone soup is just like the one I had back at home in Korea!
The service was really great. They were attentive, thoughtful and very kind. Gamjatang was good value and loved the sauce.
Wonderful experience!
Nice food and services, really enjoyed the free kimchi here~
Great and cozy place, waitress is super nice and refilled our plates whenever needed. The food was also exquisite with all the ingredients of a tradition hot pot. We enjoyed our stay!
Really welcoming and comfortable atmosphere. Store is really clean and has a quiet ambiance. Service is amazing, super attentive and friendly staff! Side dish selection is great, and are all delicious. The kimchi is especially good! We ordered the gamjatang, and the broth is flavourful snd spicy, with PERFECTLY cooked pork on the inside.
Very very service and great taste of all the food
Heard great things about this place and finally tried their food. Service and atmosphere were great. Most of all, their pork bone soup is really tasty! Will definitely come back soon. Food
Food is great, it s tasty and washrooms are clean
SO GOOD! We tried the gamjatang jeongol which was very yummy. LOTS OF MEAT and rice cakes too. Came with glass noodles and we were able to refill both the broth and sides. So filling!! Try it out. :)
food is really good and the service.
Food is good and service
Tried this place for the first time and had a pretty good experience trying rather different flavours from other Korean restaurants. We tried the regular size gamjatang hot pot, seafood pancake, fish cake soup, and the most unique dish for us was the Mapo Ppyeojjim, soy braised pork neck bones. The gamjatang was surprisingly savoury, not the spicy sour kind that Im used to. Nothing wrong with it, it just tasted very different from what I was expecting. It had good peppery bites, and a good mix of glass noodles, vegetables and onions. The soy braised pork neck bones was a huge portion, even for the regular size that is meant for 2-3 people. I wouldve liked a bit more depth of flavour with some more garlic in the braise. The seafood pancake was crispy but very greasy. The fish cake soup came with lots of different kinds of fish cakes and was very hot. Service is quick and efficient and the space is clean.
Yummy food and great service! The fried chicken is crispy and saucy. Pork bone soup with Korean noodles has a good amount of pork and noodles.
This is my third time at this location and its just as good as the Yonge/Sheppard location!! The gamjatang jeongol is a must-have and between my partner and I, we almost always have some leftovers to take home for another meal (we order the regular size). The side dishes are also delicious, our favorite is the fish cakes - super tasty and they are happy to refill the side dishes if you ask for it! Parking: Free and big parking lot!
Amazing experience. Cant believe how good it is.
Pork bone soup tastes good!
Consistently delicious and good service. Place is still quite new so its clean and nicely lit. Our go-to place for this neighborhood
We came in for a weekday lunch. Tried their original gamjatang, tteoboki and dakgangeong chicken. The tteokboki is very good and not chewy. The pork bone soup gamjatang has a bisou soup and made a lot difference on its taste. It was so good. The chicken was boneless with sesame seed and sauce also good. All in all a very good experience.
it was great! i got the tonkatsu and it was a good portion! service was great and they refilled our sides
The pork bone soup tastes good!
My friends and I got their best seller pork neck bone soup to share that comes in a hot pot as well as their sweet glazed fried chicken which was very good! There were 5-6 pieces of pork bone which I think were good portions. Their side dishes were well balanced of flavours and I especially liked their kimchi. Will definitely come back!
Located in plaza NW corner of Midland and Finch. Small seating options . Food is great. Must try the hot pot style. Very flavourful. You get included side dishes of kimchi, corn , noodles and fish cake. It is included. Rest machine says no Amex. Rest listed as AMEX merchant on AMEX map. Edited: Jan 2024
Food is always comforting. I love to go here on a cold day to warm up! My go to is their pork bone soup - a classic
Amazing!! Love the gamjatang, so much meat! They have some interesting options too like gamjatang kalguksu and soontofu.
The gamjatang taste very authentic, portion was good, will recommend!
So glad that Mapo Gamjatang decided to open up a location in Scarborough! There is definitely not enough korean food in the area. Came here during their grand opening and had their 50% promotion. Although space is small, they have a good amount of seating. Food came out piping hot and they offered the same sides as their North York location. My go to is the ramen gamjatang, will definitely come back to visit to try their other menu items!
Its really delicious!
Great Korean food and plenty of free parking. They dont serve alcoholic drinks.
We ordered the large gamjatang and the regular gamjatang with ramyeon. It was delicious! Not as spicy as the Yonge location. Generous with the side dishes. Super friendly service.
Fast and friendly service and the pork bone soup is not too spicy.
I really like the side dishes, especially the corn. The gamjatang soontofu is a good combo for me cuz I like both but I wish there was more meat. The tofu was not the regular tofu in your soontofu soon. Its diff but I like it too. Will go back and try other dishes.
This is the definitive place to get your Gamjatang in Toronto. Meat falls off the bones (perfect for lazy eaters). Try the Dakgangjang (sweet and spicy fried check) and the try pork bone dish. They dont mess around with portions
Sand in the vegetables
We really like the seafood pancake, flimsy but crispy ! Wished they cut it for us so it s easier to share. No alcohol at this location at the moment. Other than that everything else is pretty good.
Gamja tang, Ppeyojjim and Korean rice ball were so good. And the free side dishes were perfect too. Definitely worth it to go again.
This unit had been changing management for serveral times and I decided to try it one more time. The side dishes was fresh and there are some new variance than other korean restaurants. I ordered the most common dish in all Korean restaurants, the pork bone soup (Gamjatang). However the meat wasnt on the tender side and I had to try a bit harder to bite the meat off the bone. The potato wasnt cooked through either. Althought the store wasnt busy at all (3 tables at the time), I only saw the waitress a few time. Best wish for this restaurant .
Best auntentic korean food, the meat is soft and tasty ,the soup is sooooo good, customer service is good and nice. They sell delicious tteobbki and bulgogi.Kudos
I should have clued in when a dipping sauce was brought over with instructions that it was for the pork bones. Unfortunately, since it was given at the beginning of the meal with all the banchan, the dipping sauce was set aside and forgotten. Why would we need a condiment for gamjatang? The soup is supposed to be powerful on its own. Yet, what I experienced was like a chunkier elevated version of the soup packages you get with ramen. Yes, there s flavour, but it s fairly one dimensional there s the initial burst but no layers afterwards. Perhaps it s because all the flavours were concentrated in the spices topping the pork bones it provided a snap of tastiness when it hit the tongue but soon was relegated onto the plate or sunk to the bottom of the bowl. Good if you get to the last drop. Offering noodles in lieu of rice on their menu is a smart choice with three choices ramen, Korean noodles, and hand pulled. We opted for the gamjatang kalguksu ($17.99) or the Korean noodles, which was the middle thickness between the other pastas. They were good, silky with a slight chew, but its density definitely needed a more flavourful broth to match. I suspect the noodles were prepared and portioned into bowls ahead of time, then soup was added into the bowl when we ordered. The room temperature noodle quickly cooled down the broth so by the time the dish arrived, the soup was already lukewarm. The smart thing to do would be to undercook the noodles to allow chefs to re-boil it for a minute before serving. Better yet, invest in a larger stone bowl and serve the gamjatang kalguksu in a heated stone bowl so that it s bubbling and piping hot like the rice version. Even the meat itself wasn t the greatest. The neck bone was cut in a fashion that made it impossible to break apart to access the meat and gelatinous cartilage that s wedged between the bones. Also, it just wasn t tender enough. The only saving grace was the two pieces were fairly large and meaty. So, the gamjatang didn t create a POW, surely the bulgogi ($18.99) that s described as being served on a sizzling plate surely will? Alas, no, it was also a KNOCK. Firstly, the beef was dispersed amongst so many vegetables carrots, mushrooms, huge pieces of green onion, and bean sprouts diluting the garlicky sweet soy flavours of the bulgogi. Secondly, the sizzling plate was more décor than function as the plate didn t make a peep of noise. No sizzle, no aroma, no heat. To be fair, the bulgogi was decent and the mushroom and vegetables does help break down the monotony of an otherwise meaty meal. Mapo Gamjatang should just set better expectations by properly describing it on their menu and drop the sizzling plate if it wasn t going to be heated and actually sizzling at the table.
The food is good but you can get the same taste and quality at other restaurant on a lesser price.
Seriously? How does it worth for 4stars? First, the server pointed us to the seat at the corner without any access to that table, all the table squeezed in very much so we had to asked ppl to yield and move their chairs a bit while they were eating. Imagine how inappropriate for a customer to do something like this. We sat down for 10 mins and two servers there (one girl and one bulky body boy) saw us, but they had no intention to offer menu ( no scan code menu available as well). Not until we kept looking at the servers to give pressures on them even though the restaurant wasnt busy. It was a very unpleasant dinning beginning, we left since no one ever care to take our orders. I dont understand how they run a business like this in Toronto. Take my advice, they definitely do not want your business, so save your $ for somewhere else that they will appreciate your visit. *** Worse dinning experience ever ***
Its good. But its on the pricer side.
The restaurant is not big, but the food is delicious. I order the pork bone soup and the spicy and sweet fried chicken for the two of us. Portions were generous and delicious. Side dishes was also very good. I love how there is a dipping sauce for the porkbone. Would definitely go to again. Spoke with one of the server and they are in the process of getting their alcohol license
We had the large mapo gamjatang and the tteobokki. The portion provided as a large was not what we would have expected as it just looked like what other Korean restaurants provide regularly, a regular sized bowl with 3 pieces of pork bone. We would have thought for an item labeled as large, it would come in a bigger bowl with more pieces of meat. The flavoring of the soup was very light. The rice cakes were also kind of bland. Overall, we were disappointed in our meal, but want to say the service was good.
Decent Korean food that seems to be authentically Korean-operated. Menu is rather limited, with most options being spicy. They serve snack dishes just like many other Korean restaurants. They also served cold water rather than hot tea, a bit disappointing for an Asian restaurant.
Good customer service n great foods
Super happy for this Scarborough location as I ve been wanting to visit their North York location for the longest time! The pork bone soup was perfect for a snowy day & the meat falls right off the bone - it also wasn t too oily. Also really enjoyed the corn side dish they offer Service was great, our water was refilled & we were asked if anything was too spicy. It s a relatively new spot so interior is pretty bright & clean!
The pork bone soup was delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The condiments were very good too. I dont like the store bought Kimchi, as it is to vinegary in taste. But theres was just right. I like mine spicy, and my husband liked his a little lighter on the spice. They were happy to tone it down for him. We ordered some dumplings as we thought it may not be enough. But the servings were generous and we were able to take some leftovers home for my lunch. We will be going back.
The gamjatang here is absolutely delicious. The Mapo Gamjatang Jeongol dish (R serving 2-3) looks exactly like the digital drawings of it on the walls of the restaurant--its immaculate. It wasnt super spicy (it was rather mild). The side dishes were also refreshing (not your usual dishes) (the kimchi tastes delicious here). Everything was clean and neat here. Id definitely come back again! Parking: There is a lot of parking available at this plazaa parking lot.
This Korean restaurant has always been one of my favorite Korean restaurants. Their pork bone soup is really authentic and highly recommended by my Korean friends. The service is great and they have a seafood pancake at the Scarborough location that is also delicious. The ingredients are fresh and the taste is excellent. Luv it!
The food and service was very nice!!
Friendly place, and fast service Food it s decent and okay side dishes Restaurant is pretty clean Got the pork bone soup and pork tonkatsu Everything it s good just the tonkatsu it s a little dry Overall it s alright
Best gamjatang I ve had in Canada, and would say it is comparable to the best found in Korea. The side dishes were also fantastic!
Highly recommend
Love the casual and welcoming atmosphere. Service is great, we get quick service when we need it and are left alone to chat otherwise. Food is exactly as expected, a big lovely bowl of warm and comforting pork bone soup. It was expensive but what isnt nowadays.
One if my favourite gamjatang restaurants. If you order the big hotpot version, it easily fills 3 people. Soup is refilled by waiter as hotpot burns off. Garlic rice is delicious too!
Delicious Korean dishes. The meat was tasty and tender and the food was well seasoned. Definitely try out if you re into Asian cuisine and in the area.
Very friendly services. The Gamjatang is very flavourful.
Better than expected! A bit worm to eat hot & spicy food but was Ok. Side dishes are missing some kicks. If the side dish was the perfect pairs, rating would have been higher. Overall, the place was Ok..
Soup not taste .meat not soft & vegie too price expensive .Service it good.
Mapo Gamjatang 8/10 Pictured: - dakganjeong ($29.99) - tteokbokki ($12.99) With locations in North York and Scarborough, Mapo Gamjatang is a great option for Korean food! They are known for their spicy pork bone soup but we tried some of their other options. The fried chicken was sweet and spicy with a crispy batter and sticky sauce. The tteokbokki was also very good and had quite a bit of fish cakes! **Follow @smfoodd on Instagram for more!!
I had a spicy mapo gamjatang. Pretty good I must say! The waiter was nice enough to recommend their signature and explain a few things about Korean dishes. Had a tea and a few sides. Went during night - there werent a lot of people inside so it was peaceful to have a dinner there.
Tried the signature gamjatang, and the Rameon gamjatang. They were both decent. Loaded with lots of pork bones, potato and vegetables. Broth was a bit salty but good for a cold day. AppetiZers were also quite good: kimchi, corn, fish cake and glass noodles. Atmosphere was clean.
Tried their pork bone soup and was pretty disappointed. Potato was not tender at all and very bland. Pork bone was bland too, flavorless. Price is on the higher side. Will not return again.
Visited Mapo Gamjatang with my friends, and it was a delightful experience. The cozy interior reminded us of a little bit of South Korea, and the friendly staff made us feel right at home. We savoured dishes like Mapo Gamjatanf Jeongol, Korean Steamed Eggs, and a variety of classic side dishes. One friend tried the unique Tonkotsu, which had a creamy twist compared to other places. Sharing this night with friends at Mapo Gamjatang was truly enjoyable! Parking: Might be busier on the weekends. Parking lot was readily available since we went on a weekday
Ridiculous. They tell you to write your name down on a waitlist and tell you wait outside. Proceeds to sit down the people forcing their way in and tells you o we forgot about the wait list. No apologies just o I forgot. Mind you we stood outside the restaurant waiting as requested. Completely unacceptable.
If there was a 0 rating, this store should get it. Youll never get a table if you think that theyll call you when theres a table. They will never call you and let other people who walk in, sit first. First come first serve, dont leave the premise if you want a seat
We always enjoy the pork bone soup and the seafood pancake. We had leftovers. We really appreciate our server giving us containers for both dipping sauces. It was a nice touch that we really appreciated.
Super clean, amazing service and perfectly tender pork in a lovely soup!
Awesome food. Super clean. Will def come back
A super delicious Korean restaurant! !
My Gamjatang go to place in GTA. Worth the driving.
The delicious pork bone soup is worth recommending. If you like spicy food, you can make it.
Gamjatang with ramen and kimchi were very good. Definitely recommend it!
Excellent service and food
I had an amazing time at Mapo Gamjatang. Delicious Korean as side dishes disappeared in minutes, and we got refills. Their Gamjatang remains the best in GTA. My go-to spot!
Very nice and friendly environment, nice food
Amazing g pork bone soup. Must try! Dont play yourself.
good
Ordered the Spicy pork bone with tofu Plenty of meat on the bones, little korean dishes being all sweet other than the kimchi, but not too sweet, the little dishes and barley tea all have unlimited refills as is regular in this kind of korean restaurant. Came wednesday 5PM, there was no one other than us in the restaurant. The server was attentive and had a bright demeanor. The menu and utensils are nice, classic korean style, there is a big TV playing video of fire place adding christmas ambience. Playing korean pop songs.
There are a lot of places where Gamjatang smells bad, but Mapo Gamjatang has no smell and is so delicious! This is the place I go to whenever I feel like gamjatang! I enjoyed it :)
good
Ive come to really enjoy the gamjatang here, which is good considering its in the name of the restaurant. The service is attentive and lovely. The portions are good for sharing or if youre very hungry. Would come again for another bowl in these cold snowy days.
Excellent service. They do a great gamjatang and the spicy fried chicken. Love the banchan refills also.
Excellent food! Highly recommended.
service was great and so was the food
Love the chewy Rice Cake Pork has crispy outer layer and a chewy inside. Fried chicken was wonderful, sauce salty and sweet. (personal fav) Provided four kinds of Korean appetizers Staff members were very friendly and helpful~
Excellent food and service.
If you like pork bone soup, Mapo Gamjatang is the place to visit!!! The soup is so flavorful, was surprised it also had potato noodles! We also ordered the Mapo Bulgogi beef, portion was smaller than expected but loved the flavor. A definite must visit!
good pork bone soup
We ordered the mapo gamjatang and tteokbokki. Both are delicious and exactly how they should be. The waitress was friendly, helpful, and attentive to our needs. Just an overall amazing experience!
Good food and great service
The best Pork bone soup place in GTA!
Taste great as always, my go to choice
Food is delicious and filling and staff is very friendly!
Fire
Yummy
Keep in mind that the review scores may not be properly reflective of the restaurant. When I entered I was informed I would get a 10% coupon for the next visit if I left a 5 star review. Price I would say is fair considering current economy. I would prefer the gamjatang to have a bit more salt or something else to be more flavorful. Enjoyed the meat. Was decently tender and absorbed the soup flavor. Nothing in particular stood out to me though.
great korean food and service, definitely recommend!
Refillable side dishes! All of them tasted good. The food were delicious!
Great food, my go to for Gamjatang, glad to have a new location at finch. Fast service.
I usually judge a korean restaurant by their pajeon, and this place was so good The haemul pajeon was nice and crispy with good flavour. The regular size gamjatang jeongol was great to share with 4 people if you order other dishes too. The server was very friendly and attentive too Highly recommended!
Flavour was amazing! Pork tonkatsu was fried perfect and the classic Gamjatang had strong flavour and amazing soup broth. Highly recommend!
Relaxing vibe, clean and staff service is good.
nice
Great food. Good service. I always pass by here when I m in the area.
It was delicious, clean, and friendly, so I felt good.
Very good food, we loved everything we ordered! Friendly staff, great service and clean restaurant. We are glad they opened a branch closer to us.
We order three kind of pork bones soup. All was good. The waitress here was really wellcoming and friendly with the smile as well. Even we had to wait for 30 minutes, but its all worth it and we did really enjoy the food. Ill keep come back for sure. Once I am a big fan of Mapo since I was yonge&sheppard where the first location is.
the gamjatang is sooo good!! clean restaurant and amazing service. highly recommend :)
The Pork Bone soup is really good!!
Pork Bone Soup is a Hit,, even the Sizzling Bulgogi very yummy.. Friendly Staff and take cares what you need very promptly...
Really great and yummy gamjatang!
I love the gamjatang ramen, not that oily. The ramen are good.
I would rate the food/menu 3.75/5. The gamjatang (pork bone soup) was served with a bowl of steamed white rice. The soup had 3 big pieces of pork bone, a bit of nappa cabbage, some glass noodles, but no potatoes. The banchan (side dishes) was average. The portion was huge and impossible for me to finish all the soup and banchan. The server, Daisy, was very friendly, prompt and attentive. I usually dont expect servers at any Asian restaurants to come check if food was alright, ask if it was too spicy (probably saw me cough, drink a bit of water cuz of the spice). Top notch customer service.
