Halibut House Fish and Chips Inc. in Scarborough

Went there today last 2 times was good nut today halibut was full of battered under cooked.we told them.how we wanted before placing an order. When complained to server the chef was v rude to herand pointed towards us take the fish back. We ended up taking batter off by ourself. We will try another place.

Me and my family only have 1 problem. YOU DONT GIVE YOUR AMAZING COLESLAW ON DELIVERY!! Im disabled, cant drive and its to cold to walk. We would love if that coleslaw came in delivery and also able to order extra. We love everything else so much and would love if you would sell that coleslaw and send it out for delivery!!

There are three fish options on site, as well as shrimp and other meats, sandwiches... I found the halibut very tasty and the fries very crispy and hot. The service was very quick and the attendants were very helpful and kind. It seems like a very popular and familiar place.

Spent over $80 for greasy soggy fish. There was no crispiness to the batter whatsoever and the fish inside was sopping with grease. Big giant waste of money.

As a Brit from a coastal part of the UK that s known for fish and chips, I wholeheartedly endorse this place! And the fact that they do mushy peas?!? The first place in Canada I ve found that does mushy peas and they are delicious. Love having this place nearby, would definitely recommend!

The service was great on the day of my lunch! The fish was exactly the way I love it and slightly battered, it was delicious.

Where there for breakfast got there just before 2 tried ordering breakfast 2:03 and Was told no by the cook and another time it was the same the waitress put my breakfast order in at 5 to 2 and the cook refuse to cook it I would not recommend this place to anybody to eat here very rude kitchen stuff

Tried here on a whim. Heard many bad reviews, but was pleasantly surprised to find Halibut House has nice fish and chips. Fish are huge in portion and there are plenty to almost too many fries. A little expensive, but comparative to other places.

When you have that craving, they always seem to satisfy! Quick and tasty!

The Halibut house at Markham road and Kingston Road is my go to place for deep fried fish and chips! I go for the specials or for the Big dinner with all the sea food as I love this kind of meal. Deep fried is wonderful! Not the best on the body but once in a while a delight. Parking: The parking is plenty and right close to the restaurant. Quite clean as people care about their environment and do not litter usually.

No issues with food, but the wait staff needs to learn to speak better english and better customer service, stop barking at the customers.

Great place with very pleasant staff. I always get the halibut and deep-fried mushrooms. I do not like the ready-made tartar so I ask for fresh lemon instead and make my own tartar before I pick up. I have also dined in and the service is great. They have cans of pop - not fountain which is a plus for me. Lots of feee parking.

This is by far the best breakfast in the city excellent portions, friendly staff, absolutely delicious highly recommend this restaurant you wont be disappointed.

I love authentic English style fish and chips. Unfortunately it is difficult to find halibut on a menu. I love their halibut and fries. You are served a very large portion of halibut and a large portion of fries. The batter is delicious, the fries are always hot and never refried. Their derp fried mushrooms are fantastic. I love the friendly and personable wait staff and the cleanliness of this establishment. Halibut House never disappoints. Try it, you will definitely become a return customer like me. Vegetarian options: They had deep fried mushrooms. Salads and coleslaw and many other options for vegetarians. Dietary restrictions: The staff are highly trained and ensure that your dietary restrictions are met. Parking: Near Victoria Park and Danforth Avenue in the plaza several other locations. Kid-friendliness: Kid friendly. Kind staff.

Decent food decent service. Terrible lip and mouth burns from the hot fried oil. Dunno why the place was filled particularly with old white folks when the plaza is in a south Asian part of town. Odd.

Grossly overpriced for some greasy, flavorless fish and chips. Very disappointing.

Solid cod and chips. A chippy back in the UK is expensive these days. This came under $20 which is great value imo. Could they have let the fish sit for a few minutes out of the fryer? Maybe, but I appreciate how quickly they got my order prepared. Definitely hit the spot for me.

Just a surprisingly great little fish and chip place near the subway station.

Very candidly I m not sure what so many of these bad reviews are about. My partner and I go here occasionally when we need to go to the metro. We stop in and have late lunch. They have daily deals, which are super well priced. The food comes out quick and the portions are quite large. I have never been able to finish the fish and chips. They give you all the tartar sauce you want. It s very clean and well maintained. The servers are friendly and try hard. Overall it s a good place to eat two people $45 all in with tip. It s pretty decent and considering the alternative like a pub that has fish and chips. This is significantly better. Kid-friendliness: You can definitely bring children here. Plenty of seating and they have a kids menu. Wheelchair accessibility: The doors are wide and there is a ramp. The restaurant is all on one level and there is an ample dining room. The bathroom is very tight though so while not completely accessible this restaurant is almost there.

The food tasted absolutely horrible, almost like plastic, way too oily. Went with family and entire family was unable to finish the food due to how garbage it tasted. Service and atmosphere was mediocre.

I don t like the fact that someone commented about place or area has lots of druggies around. Well. Welcome to Toronto. There are druggies everywhere. Unless you live in a cave. Look around pal. It s everywhere. Don t trash the area because of druggies being around got nothing to do with the establishment or any other businesses around. Wake up pal.

Replace the have some good fish-and-chips. Sunday in Monday attack chips is 1299. So thats an amazing price. Its a good full serving and ive also believe they have a sale price on wednesdays as well.

The basic fish and chips are fine. Theyve even been recommended to me by an English expat living in Canada. Unfortunately, I was not as satisfied with the House Special which turned out to consist mostly of fries and an austerity portion of fried scallops and shrimp plus exactly 3 onion rings. This Special costs $40.00 without tip.

The service is always excellent. Staff are friendly and very attentive to what you want. I love there halibut special where can you get a good meal on a Sunday or Monday for around 12 tax included. My family and i went to the victoria park and Danforth location on Good Friday for lunch. We went to order and we were told they were only serving a fixed menu of halibut, haddock and king cod and no specials were being honored, and they raised all their prices. I have been a customer at this location for many years but WILL STOP GOING to this location. How does a restaurant raise their prices on a religious holiday and take advantage of their customers. Bad business!!

In the same area are other F&C places like duckworths. However, ducks always had this strange smell in their restaurant, and their service was always unpredictable. Im not that much a fan of F&C, so halibut house i consider okay. Their restaurant doesnt smell, their service is fine. I have yet to try other F&C places in kensington market and other areas of our city. Plus, overall, F&C prices are considerably more expensive than other restaurant foods. The one thing i dont like is the enormous amount of fries they include with their takeout. Covid update, Nov 3, 2020. F&C still great. Had their shrimp & chips and that was great too !!! Large shrimp and quite a few of them as well. Revising to 4 stars... as well, as of late, since they always provide too many fries, i began freezing the left over fries. reheated at 375 for 7 minutes, they taste great and are still quite crispy ! i usually have enough left over fries for 2 portions.... I dont like giving 5 stars you really got earn it. This was absolutely delicious gravy amazing chips classic fish and chips fries. Cant lie I like to tell the people the truth, the halibut was small but delicious. They plop down a hunk of coleslaw which is very good. All and all Id say its pretty damn good . Go and giver ago shes not bad Id give it 2 a d old marky mark knows whats good.

33$ for such a grease bowl. The sweet potato fries look battered and taste like nothing but oil. Cod tasted like oil. The only good things about this was the coleslaw and garlic bread. NOT WORTH THE PRICE! Like have you ever been so mad you want to cry

Good Breakfast

The worst people and customer service. Took my son for lunch here and he got food poising. Went to complain after and the old Asian lady who looked like the owner did not care. She wanted us to buy more food or leave. I have always had good experiences at halibut house, but this location is the worst. Will never go here again. The franchise should be ashamed of themselves for letting people who don t understand anything buy into their franchise. The area is also bad. Lots of drug addicted people around. Do yourself and your family a favour. Stay away from this horrendous place.

Its just a great place to go for a great meal . The fish and chips are great, but they do , doother food as well . Like onion rings , battered mushrooms, chicken fingers, and I think chicken burgers as well . So, like I said, its a great place to go . Plus, they have daily specials.

I have halibut house before many times at the location on danforth and Victoria park. Love it there. Anywho. Ordered this disgusting food from this location and I m so mad. Fries taste like frozen bagged fries same as the fish all greasy that s all I tasted was grease. So disappointed

Almost twenty dollars for the smallest piece of fish I ve ever seen.

Didnt eat my clam chowder, didnt get coleslaw on any of my fish orders, which I always get,and they give you so many fries that get really bad when you get home, and not even the oven can fix it. The fish was excellent, but for $71+ tip. I expect better sides, and chowder was nonexistent, it was coagulated cream with no taste.

Overall, all a decent location of the chain. Ive only been to 2 others because family are fans. Im generally fine with the chain but personally prefer another fish and chip restaurant. That said, this location has friendly staff and is pretty clean and well maintained. Decor is a bit clinical but understandable. The Halibut & Chips are decent with a fair cut of fish and a slightly generous portion of chips. Prices are as you would expect for fish and chips, so I dont understand why some people feel like they are expensive. Maybe they are using food apps and dont know of the 30% mark-up or something.

Service staff are amazing, good menu with some variations away from fish/seafood. Part of a chain so food quality is consistent. Sunday / Monday they have $10 Haddock and chips with coleslaw. Top 5 deals in the city hands down. Portions are very generous. That deal and the staff who are efficient and friendly keep me coming back. Oh, and the battered mushrooms on occasion.

Really disappointed in the quality of the product these days. We are quite a distance because fish and chips is usually good. We ate the fish and bought a extra order. The next day when going to heat up extra piece and again noticed almost all batter and little fish....we all discussed it was the same yesterday. Batter was also kinda dry . Called to discuss this with store, but no real answers. Cant imagine driving out of my way again.

They double fry the fish! When they are in a hurry they will refry a cold piece of already fried fish !! They did it to me twice .now I go to a different place . Once is a mistake .twice is a habit.

First time here, what a nice restaurant and clean and fast! The waitress we should have ask her name? Next time? She was amazing and very pleasant and oh so very nice. Because I took my brother- in- law and sister out for their Anniversary today. Just driving on the Danforth my brother in law suggested a place here and low and behold heres this place. Not only was the food hot until my very last bite, even tho I had 2 pieces of Halibut and fries and the coleslaw of course. It was amazing ! Great atmosphere and they were fast to our table just after ordering it! I know and have a feeling more of my family will be coming here soon? Because thats all I can think of was everything was truly just wonderful! And how satisfied and full I still feel after an hour of leaving. And my family cleaned off their plates and felt as I do Thank you, Halibut House Fish & Chips !

Monday special was hot and steaming from within and the coating crispy. I would have loved if the fish was seasoned a little bit more.

A great friendly atmosphere to dine in or out :) very clean and courteous staff as soon as you walk in with a nice greeting. Menu has a wide variety of great dishes as well as daily specials and a breakfast menu available to mid-day. We love their fish & chips just delicious and great portions. Alright seafood branch of chain. Dishes like the fish chowder and the fish tacos were a bit bland. The fried clams were nice (we used the seafood sauce that came with them in the soup and tacos). The fish platters looked tasty and piled high; may try that next visit.

Always go here for brunch I like that they have breakfast until 2pm and also they have really quick and friendly service they always have my eggs and bacon or my fish n chips ready in 10mins or less definitely Sunday s and Monday s are a good price and fish taco Tuesday not bad either Wednesday chicken fingers are good sometimes too lol

Sad to say that I did not come out happy with my dining experience. The service was good as well as the restaurants cleanliness. It was the value for food that got me disappointed. What we ordered was the Shrimp & scallop combo ($18.95) and the Fish tacos (3 pcs for $9.95). Even more than what can be expected, both dishes tasted quite the same fried, battery taste. There were also way too much fries in the Shrimp & scallop combo meal. For the total price we paid versus what we had in terms of taste & portion sizes, it was not something I can recommend for everyone.

Yesterday I visited the place with my family. The food was good, a bit pricy though. But we enjoyed the time. Service was below ok level. But when I went to pay the bill, the attending staff stupefied me with the tips option. I was not touching the machine for physical distance reasons. Meanwhile that person came forward and just mentioned the tip amount in a very fast manner, Oh, it would be 10%? Ok, thank you. They did not let me to say anything. It was awkward and stupefying. The amount of tip or giving a tip is not an issue here. The issue is the way I was tricked. It was like a palming technique of magic. Please be aware of this, if you go there. Please do not be fooled by the glib while paying the bill.

Delicious everytime! Usually have a daily special which is nice. Casual place, clean restaurant and great staff. I go for lunch everytime I work in the area.

Been there twice, once for haddock and chips and scallop and rings. Second time haddock and chips with gravy and colslaw salad. Seem the colslaw and gravy comes in only one size (medium). Good portion of fish and chips, scallops little small in size but good, and staff also friendly. I dropped it to 3 stars from 5 because the last time I went and ordered the house special and asked for the Greek salad instead of the house salad they said it would be $2 extra but their website said any salad, didnt say anything about extra charge. $2 doesnt mean much considering i always leave a $2 to $5 tip (depending on total) for take out, its just the principle of it.

We like the location at Victoria Park and Danforth the best. The other locations aren t quite at the same level. Staff are efficient as well. We always to phone order and take out. Food is always ready and on time. Wish I had a photo but sadly not at this time.

I came last Saturday and someone ordered 15 orders before me. The service was good, the food when I got home was shimmy and unbeatable. I ordered 3 halibut with chips, chips were good but the fish was not cooked. I cant see that I would return again and Id you do go, make sure they dont have any big orders before you. Im not a fan of making low reviews. But i ordered some fish and chips. Got both the halibut and cod but my family found it to be not very tasty at all. It was cooked and fries were ok. But cant say I would want to order that again

Been here few times and the food and service is great.

I ordered the lunch portion and it was overpriced for how small the portion was. It consisted of a small halibut and fries and I was charged 16 dollars...the fries were severely undercooked as usual but the halibut was ok. The place also reeks of grease but thats to be expected. Wont be returning
