Hunter's Hut in Scarborough

My mother in law ordered gyro dinner and the gyro meat tasted like cardboard / liver. She asked for a replacement, just for the meat. She asked for fish, but they wouldnt do it without her paying another $6. She didnt want to pay more so in the end the restaurant reduce the meal by $1.80. She ended up paying $16-17 for just eating the potatoes and salad. The restaurant used to be good when the owners were Greek. Now we personally wont go back.

A small restaruant in a plaza. They have night discount after 8:30pm. $3.95 beer + $0.89 for each wing. I have the salt and pepper wings. They are very crispy and yammy. Very good deal.

Got 2 chicken souvlaki dinners, takeout and the portions were skimpy and bland. Used to go many years ago before when it was different owners and it was way better. This was incredibly disappointing

Chicken souvlaki dinner was a rip off. Usually greek places fill it to the brim but they were so cheap and it was missing the Greek flavor. It was also over $20. Previous owners were better it s a shame.

This is a great place to sit and eat with friends and family. Service is pretty good. Fish and chips and Chicken parm are delicious. I once asked for it without bread and it was even better Stay away from the red meats if u can. It s hit and miss. Some of the cooks either burn the steak or lamb or it s a tough cut. Hard to chew. Overall a great place to go and grab a bite. Vegetarian options: Veggie plate

This my bf s and my favorite place for pizza! It s soo tasty and it s soooo affordable! I drive 20 something minutes to get their pizza because it s soooo good! We totally recommend it. And this is my second review because we LOVE their pizzas!

Came for the first time and was impressed with the atmosphere. Wide variety of items to choose from. Tried their tuna wraps, ice coffee and pancakes. Highly recommended visiting them. Have your food delivered from SkipTheDishes!

A great local restaurant for Breakfast and dinner. Friendly service. Had their traditional Breakfast that you can go wrong. Also had dinner on a different occasion for their Monday special Fish and Chips. You wont be disappointed.

Would give 3.5 if I could but not worthy of 4. Very run of the mill diner. Went for lunch on a weekday. Was the only one there aside from 1-2 pickup orders and one other small group came as I was being served. Food was serviceable but would not reccomend anyone go out of their way to try. I tried the liver and onions which was a little dry and over cooked. Typical of most diners in my experience. A good liver and onions is hard to find so can t fault too much for that. Also had wings which were on special. They were not bad. Pretty well cooked but just average tasting overall. Service was again very typical of a small diner - very friendly and polite but if you don t ask, you don t get. If you re craving some diner food in a pinch; it ll do, but don t make a special trip. I ll try one more time and stick with some of the safer options like breakfast or souvlaki or fish and chips which seem to be popular based on reviews and server suggestions.

It looks like the ownership has changed? Beer glasses were filthy. Waitress kept bringing incorrect beer. Hope they can turn it around, used to enjoy going there. Food : 3/5

6 yrs ago it was a local hidden gem for Greek food. Old school decent portions authentic taste. This time it was not good at all. The Greek salad is ok but dont need to be a chef to make one. Potatoes are gritty and hard. Pork souvlaki have a horrible flavor it seems like it was marinated raw in the fridge for days after its expiration date. Grill chicken souvlaki seem like precooked re-grilled chicken. Dont even get me started with calamari it belongs to bargain frozen food stores + serving with sweet Thai chilies sauce? Nope not going back.

I have been meaning to try this place since I went to highschool down the street and never got around to it. 10 years later I finally dined here, and wow what I missed out on in highschool. It has all the feel of a mom and pop restaurant while also being very clean looking. The food was good and the service very friendly and welcoming. To my amazement it seems as if inflation has not reached this restaurant a dinner for two only costing 49 dollars after tax is crazy good by comparison nowadays. I would definitely recommend this lovely little eatery to anyone and everyone. I visited on September 13th at 6pm and the server working was just the most welcoming young lady a real credit to the business.

Not enough food for pork and chicken Soulvalki dinners. Not enough rice and meat. Rice is hard. Chicken was moist. But small portions. Salad is nice. For $19 for each dinner there is not enough food. Website prices and actual price on menu are totally different.

Decided to try this place for Saturday brunch with a friend, was pleasantly surprised! The staff was very friendly and the atmosphere on the patio was superb. Vegetarian options: The Eggs Florentine was delicious

Excellent customer service from Mary. She is the best. I made a mistake and wanted sunny side up eggs and she was so pleasant about it. The food was delicious food. Free tea and free coffee. $7.99 breakfast was a steal. This place is a hidden gem.

I have been a customer of Hunters since before the new owners took over during Covid. I have to say, I still love the place, and they seem to know that good portion sizes, fast friendly service, and affordable prices are what people want, and will PAY for! Ive had their chicken souvlaki dinner, BBQ wings, and pizza. I asked for some extra tzatziki, no problem! I ordered pizza, and the cheese was right to the edge, and there was generous helping of toppings. Two large four-topping pizzas for $25, and fantastic in taste and quality! Far better than any of the chains. When a friend and I dined in, they gave me honey garlic wings instead of the BBQ I ordered. Mistakes happen, but its how you deal with it that matters. They fixed it immediately with a smile. The service has ALWAYS been friendly and welcoming. The ONLY negative thing I can think of, are their chairs, which are definitely old and a bit rickety. Perhaps they cannot be tightened up as well as they used to, and with the prices these days, its not a need, and they are rightfully putting efforts into the food quality instead. DEFINITELY recommend. :) Parking: Typical one-storey small neighbourhood mall, plenty of free parking for everyone.

Ordered Greek omellete and they sent me Greek salad.They have to really work on their customer service as I called and confirmed about what they did wrong they said we thought its salad! I ordered from uber eats! Also offer me to come in store and they may give something free while I live 10 km away.Never again ordering from this shop and asking uber eats for full refund!

Great mom and pop restaurant. They have daily specials. I ordered their fish and chips. Loved the taste. Fries were crispy. Fish tasted great and also enjoyed their Coleslaw. Gonna go there again and try their meatballs and spaghetti.

Pretty dated/old. Under new management. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was below expectations. The meal I ordered was fish and chips and it had the fat chippy chips on the photo but they gave me fries which were not great. The fish batter seemed rubbery like it had been reheated. PSA!!!!! Mixed reviews but I thought Ill try this place on my break anyway. Big mistake! Soon as I walked in and seen two sleezy women day drinking by the window people watching and giving looks when I walked in I shouldve known then to turn around and walk out. The food was absolutely terrible. I was in a rush a bit so I didnt have time to take a pic. I got the chicken wrap and fries. Frozen fries that they cook up and the wrap was more like a salad then a wrap. The chicken had no seasoning, it was fatty and barely any in the wrap. Visited this place recently and had a mixed experience. While the food left much to be desired, the service was absolutely outstanding. The food, unfortunately, was disappointing. My were overcooked, the bacon was too greasy, and the pancakes were bland and slightly undercooked. I had high hopes for a hearty, flavorful breakfast, but the meal fell short of expectations. It felt like the kitchen was having an off day, which was a letdown. However, the silver lining was the exceptional service. The staff was incredibly friendly, attentive, and accommodating. From the momenta we walked in, we were greeted warmly and seated promptly. Our server checked on us frequently, refilling our coffee and addressing our concerns with genuine care. Despite the subpar food, the impeccable service made the visit more pleasant.

Wasn t sure how the restaurant s quality would be, yet, was totally surprised by both the portion and the quality of the meals. Monday s special is fish and chips for only $9.99! The fish was fresh (the best so far in Toronto), the fries were so good (better than the fast food ones). Oh, the service . . . 10 stars out of 5! Breakfast was plentiful as well, you know what I mean. A hidden gem!!!

We ordered the country benedict and steak and eggs. The country benedict had a shard of glass that I accidentally bit to and the potatoes are not appetizing at all. Had to stop eating after the i found the piece of glass. I didnt ask for refund because I understand that it is a small business but we wont be returning. Server was great though.

This restaurant has the best Greek food Ive ever eaten! The chicken Souvlaki tastes like it was made by heavenly angels. The customer service is excellent too. Helen (the waitress) is so kind and friendly. Please eat here and support this amazing business.

Paid bill brought wrong charge then ignored me suppose to get 17 only got 7 after waiting for her had to leave to go to work

Came here on Mothers Day and it wasnt that busy. We got a table almost immediately. The server was professional and got us started on our drinks. We all tried different things on the menu. The picky eater loved the big slices of bacon, but only had enough room left for a little bit of the giant pancakes. The steak eater thought that the steak looked bigger than 8 oz and loved the flavour of the sauce, which also worked well with the scrambled eggs. The healthy eater really enjoyed the healthy breakfast. I got the biggest breakfast plate and it was amazing. The ham was a little thin, but still had great flavour. The breakfast sausages were big and juicy and perfect. Even the French toast had good flavour, and I normally think French toast isnt flavourful enough. 5/5 would come back and 5/5 would recommend.

The food quality isn t bad. They need to work on the cleanliness of the restaurant as well as the service. People get tired of waiting for their order and not being offered a glass of water or menu for 5-7 mins plus. Please improve this

The waitresses were nice enough and I dont mean any harm to them but this place is under par. The service was slow even though it wasnt necessarily busy. The cups and plates had stains on them, we got the fish and chips which didnt taste fresh, the Canadian burger was decent enough the bacon was great but the burger was bland and the gyro wrap was pretty good. The atmosphere isnt anything special. The food is priced really reasonably and the waitresses are nice but I cant recommend this place.

I ordered the ham and egg breakfast with coffee. It came with 3 slices of ham, texas toast, 3 eggs, a pile of very good home fries, and cantelope. It was excellent as was the price $12.50 tax included. I didnt eat for the rest of the day! The atmosphere was nice and the waitress was excellent.

Waited for over half an hour for overly salted potatoes that are basically inedible and frozen mushy gyros that I couldve bought from Nofrills. This lunch definitely missed the mark.

Wings are overly dry and salty. I was watching the guy make my food and I thought I saw him grab a head of lettuce and cut into it without washing it.

The pizza here is a hidden gem, who would have thought a diner would have such good pizza? My order is usually the two large pizzas with five toppings each is loaded generously. Whoever is making these pizzas needs to be recognized. The pizza embodies hard work and good value. This will continue to be my go to as long as the pizza continues to be loaded!

My fiance and I go to this restaurant at least once a week. We have tried many dishes (pizza, wings, burgers, buffalo chicken wrap, breakfast, pancakes, gyro, fish and chips, salad, etc etc etc) and are always satisified with the food! Highly recommend their spicy fries as these are a must everytime we eat there! Their food is delicious and the service is top notch and very friendly. Its one of our favourite restaurants and we will continue to visit time and time again. Prices are also very good and the portions are generous. I highly recommend to everyone!

Food was surprisingly good for a local bar. I was served at the bar by a girl named Kirsten I believe her service was amazing super friendly and very good at making drinks. Would definitely recommend to friends and family and will be going back !

GREAT hidden gem in Scarborough... not many places left like this in the east end. I like this place waay better than markham station. Food was great ..PORTIONS are HUGE... service was good when we went (not a busy time) but we were treated very well. Great breakfast place .. highly recommended.. fresh food and they dont skimp. I hope theyre in business for a long time .. its my new FAVORITE eatery!

Standard American breakfast fare . I got three eggs and sausages, comes with potato hash , toast and fruit bowl . A very good value . I ordered over medium on the eggs, it was more like over easy . The rest of the breakfast was on point the potatoes were a little salty.The coffee was very good , although there is no brown sugar . I did enjoy it the cup was small so I needed two refills . Definitely would come back . They have a large eggs Benedict section! The server was very nice .Came back, the coffee is still very good . I ordered the French toast and sausage, bacon , eggs , and potato hash . French toast was ok , today the hash brown was oily , still was good but not like the first time . Service was good . Went several times . Last time had a wonderful server . Sandya was amazing excellent server. Polite and very helpful.Mary is an excellent server as well.

Imagine calling this fruit salad? 4 tiny pieces of cantaloupe. I tried calling a few times beforehand so I didn t have to wait for my pick up order and no one answered. When I got in I tried to order the corn beef hash Benedict and the chef told me they were out . This was a Saturday morning at 9:30am. The potatos were crazy salty to the point I couldn t eat them. Only reason I gave it 2 stars is because the portion was good for the price.

alpine Burgher is a definite returner. I just have to come back for that burger. The fries I have to say are way better than McDonalds definite must try.

Best budget food in Scarborough

I had breakfast with my loved ones here this morning and it was wonderful. The server was cordial and professional. She made sure we were having a great time. Keep her! Price is fair and the food is delicious.

Pizza is really good. Some food looks and tastes like it comes from Costco or out of a box (e.g. burgers, souvlaki, fries). Breakfasts are very good and wide variety of Benedicts. Service is always excellent. Decor in need of a change.

Im just giving a review based on the fact that this is still listed as having Greek food in Google Maps. Hunters Hut used to sell Greek food under previous ownership, but has rebranded to just breakfast and basic Western restaurant fare (breakfast, burgers sandwiches). Any recent reviews showing or talking about Greek food, are FAKES.

They recently did a catering order for us for BBQ Meatballs and French Fries for 200 guests. The food arrived on time, was hot fresh and we got many compliments for taste. Would definitely order again. Give them a try they are under new management.

Excellent breakfast went there early one morning and had a Canadian omelette with coffee. They serve a small fruit bowl with most breakfasts. They have a stacked breakfast and lunch menu lots of choices. With a modest tip all in was $19.00 . I will come back but I think most of us have cut down on eating out.

Vegetarian options: We ordered french toast which was so dry and the burger was so cold.

This is a really great family diner style restaurant. The new owners have done a excellent job with the food , the hospitality and the service , the place is freshened up and spotless ! We had an excellent breakfast and I was really impressed by the quality of the food ( so difficult to find a proper breakfast these days ) . The food was awful! The Souvalaki dinner portion was really small, the calamari rings were the worse, the calamari was the size of a thin rubber band with lots of flour. I wasted my money here! Only the salad was okay. They need to review their menu and their food sizes. I wont go back there if they gave me free meals!

Great place to take a family with a variety of taste preferences and small children. My husband had a burger, I had a chicken souvlaki meal and my son had the chicken quesadilla. All three meals were delicious. Portions were large, price was great. We will definitely head back to try some of the other things on the menu. Kid-friendliness: The food options were easy, they had a high chair and very kind about his making a mess at the table.

My family has been going to Hunters for years and years. We used to get the pizza delivered all the time. In the last while they were bought by another group who redid the menu and went away with pizza and other things. I was worried that it would destroy the place. I was wrong. The new menu is pretty darn fantastic. I have had a few different items and all of them have been great. My picky kids always find something good for themselves too. We try and make a stop in whenever we are back in Scarborough visiting family. The best part about Hunters is they have kept the prices affordable. You would expect new owners to come in and raise prices and lower quality but it just isnt happening here. Cant wait to visit again!

It isnt often I give 5/5/5, but this place is a hidden gem. Large portions, great quality (liver and onions on this trip) l, friendly and attentive staff. Breakfast is all day, just ask for the menu. Available on Uber Eats. Parking: The parking lot is enough for the number of shops in the plaza, but during busier times, there may be issues getting a parking spot.

Our breakfasts were pretty terrible on our most recent visit. Un(der)cooked veggies in the scramble along with the mushrooms that were asked and agreed to be omitted. Poached eggs flecked with green, which at best implies cross contamination of spoon/water. Potatoes that were barely boiled, let alone shown a grill/pan. Tasted raw and inedible. Apologies for the tone of this review. We have been three times now since the reopening, because we very much want to support a local diner in our area, but the results have always been similar. The wait staff were polite and friendly every time, no complaints to them.

Awesome family restaurant! A hidden gem of Scarborough. I recommend Sausage & Egg for a quick breakfast, or Hungry Man Breakfast for brunch/lunch. Both are fairly priced. They also offer coffee which you can refill.

Pro: All day breakfast. Eggs benedict dishes are good. Omelets are decent size. Con: 95% of dishes you can make at home. Staff, while polite, are not very aware of customers. Environment feels cramped, not cozy. Leaky windows whistle loudly when wind blowing. In short, if you are feeling too lazy to cook yourself basic breakfast then come here for breakfast. Would be happier if they took inspiration from Coras or Tuuti Frutti for their dishes. Looking to trying lunch / dinner options instead next.

Got the Hunters Pizza and wings take out deal . 2 pounds of wings and 2 large 5 topping pizzas . The meat lovers pizza was stacked with topping and the deluxe pizza was busting with vegetables and double pepperoni. Always good portions and good service . Next time Ill have to try the chicken slovaki .

A very nice local breakfast spot. They currently have a special where coffee is free between 7 am and 11 am which is pretty sweet. We had the french connection and the meat lovers omelette for breakfast and enjoyed both dishes. Looking forward to returning and trying their lunch/dinner options!

I drove past this restaurant for over a year not knowing what type of gem it was. One day I was early for work I saw a sign saying FREE COFFEE so I decided heck you know what I ll go it and have a look at their menu that proves to you signs do work hahah. My first impression on this restaurant was WOW honestly if I didn t ignore this restaurant for a whole year o would be their every morning this restaurant is fabulous and their customer service is so lovely very kind and warm hearted people that love you like family the food is out of this world and everything is made fresh to order I d give this place more than 5 stars if it had that option

We used to go to Hunters Hut just after the management took over about 5/6 years ago. Then COVID happened and then they had the windows covered up for a while so we thought they closed down. We were wanting to try somewhere different today and then I thought let s try Hunters Hut again. We were so glad that we remembered this nice little restaurant. The food was great and you got a good serving of food. The service was good. Our waitress was polite and always had a smile. We will make sure we come back here again.

Came here with my parents about a week after they (re)opened and was NOT disappointed. I got the crab cake eggs benedict and it was it was phenomenal. My parents each got burgers (one regular, one banquet) and they thoroughly enjoyed them. Service was also stellar as well. Overall it was a really great experience!! I cannot wait to come back and try the rest of the menu!!

Order the breakfast here at 2 pm ,the food taste really good and the portions are very generous. This place is newly renovated very nice and clean. Love the all day breakfast, really make my day.

Went for breakfast now that the restaurant has reopened under new management and refurbishing. Interior is now quite nice. The staff are very friendly and provide excellent service. They have a HUGE variety of breakfast choices. All our breakfast meals were fabulous. Eggs Benedict was perfectly cooked and prepared. Other dishes were excellent as well. The home fries are particularly noteworthy. Very hard to find great home fries these days. Portions are large. Prices really reasonable. Highly recommended.

Great Greek food. Good portion.

Noticed a sign out front advertising early bird special yesterday so I thought I would try them. Nice thick bacon, moist sausages, eggs cooked exactly as asked. I took it home for take out and was pleasantly surprised with the tiny fruit salad sampler. Wait staff was polite. Definitely will try again.

Now under new management, we popped in for dinner which was excellent. We had the Souvlaki Dinner, we will come back again!

At one point, this is was a decent place. Now, you get a salad with barely ANY dressing, one olive and a tiny bit of feta cheese. The rice has absolutely NO SEASONINGS, tastes like wax. Potatoes have no flavor and probably just boiled. The chicken has NO FLAVOR. The tsaziki sauce they give is in a tiny container. WASTE OF MONEY . Will never be returning. You have a better chance at getting authentic Greek food at the Asian place next door !

Ive been going to Hunters for 25 years and its still one of my favourite restaurants. The portions are extremely generous and the prices cant be beat. When I order the two chicken dinner, I can easily turn it into four meals. Pro tip, their gravy is soooooo good

Believe the previous reviews. Ordered a chicken souvlaki dinner today and it was disgusting. The rice was hard and wax like, seemed like it was old rice. The potatoes were bland and hard. The total cost of the meal came to 17$ and some change, definitely not worth it at all. We ended up throwing away most of the dinner because it was that bad. As for the business owners who prides themselves with 50+ years of their recipe, id suggest you actually take the feedback from the reviews instead of getting extremely defensive especially when multiple people are complaining about the bad meals, Might be worth it to your business to take the constructive criticism and implementing it with your food instead of using the time to fight back. Clearly has no respect for customers and thinks everyone is complaining the price and wouldnt if its cheaper. That is not the case lol it has nothing to do with the cost so stop assuming your customers are being cheap. The food is trash so should take the time to work on the food or not give old food instead of yelling at these reviews

Good family run place thats been there for ages. Pizza is very good and Greek dishes are also quite good.

The bruschetta bread was amazing! The lamb and chicken souvlaki were also really good, they were accompanied by a bit too much rice.

Good place. Customer service is great, but can be pretty slow at times. Food is good. Portions arent huge, but not terrible either. Prices are pretty decent. Overall not bad.

Ive been going here for years with coworkers and wirh my kids unfortunately my break was burnt had a huge hole barely any garlic spread and no cheese...the other slices were the exact same burnt hardly any garlic spread and lack of cheese....it was take out so i couldnt complain about this till i got home. The food was also salty I asked my son and his was salty too. It was a waste of $45....sadly.

Best Greek food around! Best wraps Gyro wraps Ive had, the Beef & Lamb is to die for, sauce is awesome, the dinner combos with rice are great too! Only more recently found this gem, i used to go all the way to Esquire Restaurant but this is much better! 10/10 very friendly staff i highly recommend giving them a try!

Good foods

I like to give my money to small business, esp during these times. I will not be returing to this place, nor do I suggest you do so. The rice was tasteless, potatoes boiled and the salad consisted of 1 olive, lettuce and some cheese. The meat was low quality and was not souvlacki cubes. Total waste of money.

Amazing fresh food ALL THE TIME. Amazing service. I usually order pork and chicken souvlaki, pizza, greek salad and love their fries. Highly recommended to everyone.

This place dosent look like much from the outside but youll certainly find great value for money on the inside. I reckon the thing I appreciated the most about this joint was the price . Real Value for Money and very #budgetfriendly I ordered a Chicken Souvlaki Dinner which came with a good portion of rice and potatoes as well as a plate of greek salad and a basket of toasted mozza-topped garlic bread. The salad was a bit heavily dressed but still good and the rice and potatoes were served warm...and not the least bit dry. The Souvlaki was moist grilled strips of lightly seasoned chicken breast. The flavours were simple, the carbs were plentiful and I certainly left full. IG @ameliadoesdinner

Had the Banquet Burger with Onion Rings... Mmmm, delicious. Onion rings were perfectly crispy and not over done. The burger was homemade and tasty and filling. Staff and atmosphere was great.
