First time to come here for family gathering dinner. Definitely hidden gem. The restaurant is at a senior service building. It is not big at all. You may really want to make reservations to come here. There’s not much parking too as many spots are marked for another senior building visitors. As far as food, I would say it is average for general dishes. We preorder some special dishes and those are excellent like the stuffed chicken with sticky rice. Juicy inside and crispy outside. The only thing I don’t like is their speedy serving speed. The table is already full of dishes and they won’t slow down until you request it. So if you want to eat slowly and enjoy the food, make sure to monitor the serving speed and ask them to hold on. Btw, don’t forget to order the satay beef on rice noodle. It is a must!
We ordered 川椒 chicken rice noodle, but it came out as Chinese broccoli (gai lan) chicken rice noodle. They should tell us if there's no 川椒, not just giving us whatever they wanted. The chicken was good, but Chinese broccoli and rice noodle were flavourless. The other two dishes we ordered were also so so, think we won't come back again
Wonderful food and dining experience. The smoked duck's aroma is delightfully rich. The sweetness and the saltiness of its sauce are well balanced. The pan fried fish is nice in the way that you can finish the whole fish without worrying about its bones. The steam rice with chicken meat and preserved fish is also impressive. Highly likely that Wui Heung preserved fish is used, which is a game changer in giving the best taste to the dish. For the Chiu Chow style rice with soup, I am fine with its taste. My relatives like the one offered by New Fusion Chinese Restaurant, Aurora, whose dishes also worth a try. The attendants are friendly and diligent. The place is clean. A star is deducted from the item of atmosphere due to its noisy environment.
Not a lot of chiu chow food options in Toronto anymore. Was excited for this place because I've heard good things about it. Had takeout once and it was not great so decided to dine in today to give it another try. Unfortunately, it was a bit disappointing. The food was acceptable but I probably won't be going again. The brine for the marinated duck was weak and the meat was tough and not tender. Presentation also not the greatest or appetizing. The pork stomach soup had an overpowering ginger taste but otherwise okay but there are definitely better options elsewhere. The oyster pancake was the best out of all the dishes.
Hidden gem in scar, quite literally. Follow the signs towards the back of the parking lot. We had excellent food for a party of 11. Food was delicious and flavourful, unlike some of the other reviews. And service was friendly and timely. We would come back to try some of their other items that require preordering
鹹菜胡椒豬肚湯 is perfect on a cold day. Warms the body despite how cold it is outside. $128 set meal is very good. Fast service, and attentive waiters replacing our plates frequently. 海帶綠豆沙 desert is excellent. Not too sweat, full of ingredients. First time 海帶 included in this desert which complemented the overall flavour. Will definitely come back again!
Love this place. Took my family here for the first time. Have been here twice during Chinese new year where they had a set meal and on a non holiday to try their regular dishes. Food is truly exceptional for the value, inexpensive, flavorful, and great portions. True essence of Chinese chui Chow style. The staff were very friendly, extremely hard working and attentive to your dining experience. For dessert, the taro mash is always a favorite. Rich, creamy and thick Taro. For savory when platter is a unique choice but I prefer the satay beef noodle.
Unassuming restaurant in a senior apartment complex with good Chiu Chow food at reasonable prices. We had a reservation and ordered one of their lunch sets. Food came out super quickly. The set was supposed to come with smoked duck but they were out, so we replaced it with a steamed chicken dish which was delicious. Dry fried string beans were great as well. The fish ball noodle soup was decent but a little bland. We also ordered the pan fried Chinese leek dumpling which we were less impressed by - the dumpling skin was too thick and it needed more filling. Service was friendly although that might’ve been because someone in our group knew the staff. Cash only.
Do not order the pot rice They just slap the rice n meat in a pot With meat on top. Not even heated up. Place order ready in 2mins Oyster cake is a joke. Hard to find any oyster on it Parking: As is not a licensed restaurant. Just licensed as canteen. It shouldnt collect tips.
Better than expected
It was a feast! Very authentic food!
Authentic cooking method, light taste, worth tasting
Most of the dishes is Not traditional chiu chow dishes. I was kind of disappointed.
Chiu chow dishes served family style
The food is delicious and the portions are sufficient. The service staff are very friendly. It is recommended to make a reservation first. Business is very good
Tucked away in a hard to find location, with delicious authentic Chiu Chow style Chinese food.
Satay Niuhe is good
Food is great! **Cash** only
Very clean . However, the resturant is very noisy even no one speak loudly. I feel very headachy the dinner! The food is soso.
This was the Oriental Gourmet ( ) along Highway 7 Markham. Offering same quality food and friendly services.
Excellent food and great value and good service
Food is good and quite traditional tastes.
Food excellent. Location was difficult to find as it is inside a condominium. Service was excellent, but a bit noisy and crowded as it is not a large restaurant.
Great service, super friendly and attentive. Food was pretty good.
Food is very average and food arrived is not the same as what s mentioned in the menu. The manager thinks it s not a problem and she says it s ok for us to give them a one star review. So here it is.
Some specialties are good. You have to pre order.
Excellent food and good service.
The chefs attitude towards food is completely different from before when he handles food. Its better not to do it until he improves in the future.
The food is disappointing. Most dishes are not hot and just warm. Some dishes (such as duck) are very salty while others (like fried rice and vegetables) don t have much taste at all. The speed is very slow. This is one of the worst Chinese dinner I had for the last few years.
I forgot how much I like this place. It is hard to find chiu chow food in Toronto. The stir fried chicken, mince pork and olive rice, and pepper pig tripe soup are all really enjoyable.
they are cash only, make sure you bring enough cash. also quite busy, reservation recommended. Food : 5/5
Hard to find chiu chow restaurants these days but this one is ok. Set lunch menus with some traditional dishes. Satay beef noodles, smoked chicken and fish ball spup noodles is good.
Great place for Chinese food! Had a set meal here for a table of 10 and it was delicious! We ordered a meal with the pork stomach and chicken soup, and it as delicious and full of umami flavors from the ingredients! Food
Last meal I got to have with my grandmother.
tasting menu, MSG after taste....
Toronto only Chiu chow style restaurant! Food are not bad and one cannot expect too much! Good service!
In recent months, the Vineyard Restaurant has been managed by Wei Ge from the former Chaoyang Restaurant. Not only does it have both quality and reasonable prices, it has been highly praised by the neighbors and is worth recommending. Parking: There are so many parking spaces that you will never run out of parking spaces.
This used to be one of my favourite place to eat. However, we had bad experience with serving attitude at this restaurant when we visited last Thursday at lunch time. The restaurant has three tables (one for four, one tiny one for two and a large table) available but still asked us to wait. We didnt see any reservation signs on any table. Only when we decided to leave then they asked us to sit at the tiny table for two. At the same time, there was another table available (a total of four available tables). We asked for a table (can sit four) by the wall to maintain social distancing and the waiter told us that only we ordered their set menu then we can have the table by the wall. We didnt want to order the set menu which was meant for four people and we ended up sitting on the tiny table in between the two empty tables. The waiter immediately put two reserved signs on the other two tables. We found out later that none of the customers sitting on the other two tables had made reservations and they were also two people, ordering the same dishes and same number of dishes as us. This dinning experience was very unpleasant and we felt the pressure to order more food than we can consume. We have no trouble squeezing in crowded restaurants to eat before the pandemic, they should honour our request as we arrived before the other customers.
Excellent food. Attentive and friendly staff. Have gone back many times already Vegetarian options: Abundant choice
Parking: Not enough parking spot. Entrance is a bit far for senior to walk.
yummy
Some hits and misses. The black pepper soup is a specialty of theirs but I just found the pepper to be overpowering. Couldnt taste anything but pepper. Skip. The squid cakes were oddly flavorless, only by dipping it into the dressing did it really shine. The laksa beef again was muted in flavour. The greens were unwieldy to eat, served with long and thick stems. The chicken was the best, very flavourful. The oyster omelette was very meh. Never was a fan of it in the past and this dish didnt change my mind. Dessert was adequate but not spectacular.
The restaurant doesn t accept debit or credit card. If you want to dine in; remember to bring enough cash. The waitress seems impatient with customers taken orders. Overall food is good except service.
Good food and price reasonable. We had the special for 4 people Food
Good food and very affordable
Good quality Chaoshan style
The service here was not the best. The food came out very slow although it wasnt too busy. But the food itself was fresh and not too salty. Spent around $50 per person
Very good dessert
Food and price are good, but services definitely need to be improved, waitresses are always in a hurry, lack of patience. Recommend the place for take out only.
Its a small restaurant at the bottom of the senior residence building. There are at least 2 signs pointing out where the door/entrance to the restaurant is. It is recommended that you reserve a table. For dinner reservations, there are two times: 5:30 pm and 7:30 pm. Theres a 2 hour limit. They only accept cash, so remember to bring cash. We went on a Saturday evening for 5:30. There was a line up by the time that we left at the end of our 2 hours. We ordered 8 dishes and an extra not on the menu dish number 9. 2 noodle dishes (egg noodle and brown flat noodle), 2 vegetable dishes (mushroom bok choy and chinese broccoli with extremely salty small bits of fish), 2 sweet and sour pork dishes, and 1 fish and tofu dish. We also got the red bean, taro(?), small clear tapioca pearls sweet soup dessert. The extra dish that we ordered was a chow mein. All the food was enough quantity. The quality was pretty good. The prices were cheaper than expected. The chow mein was $15 for all that food. The flavors were light, not too salty, not too oily. I assume the food is cooked like this because the seniors from the floors above would come down and eat there and with their families. Would come back here again. Everything was pretty good. We came here as a big family. Felt like this restaurant was like a hidden gem. There really is a Chinese restaurant here, it just hard to see where the entrance is- you can miss the entrance, its just one small door on the outside of the building. We spent about $100 something here. Parking: There are some parking available in where you park to go into the senior residences and Tender Care. Not sure about street parking in the area though. Kid-friendliness: We saw families with young children eating there. Wheelchair accessibility: My grandfather was in a wheelchair. We were able to wheel him right into the restaurant.
We went on Friday around 7pm and the place was full, we made a reservation and were seated quickly. We had 9 people so we ordered a set dinner for 10 people. The signature pepper pig stomach soup was great, very spicy and had lots of pig stomach. The fried fish ball was also great, chewy with good texture. All other dishes were OK. The only complaint was that all the dishes came too quickly and there was not enough space on the table for all the food. The server kept rushing us and dishes were piled up on the table. It was not a good dining experience.
Do NOT eat here if you have a nut allergy! We told the staff no nuts due to an allergy but there were chestnuts in a dish. We complained to 2 different servers and they did nothing. One said it was mushrooms (it obviously wasn t) and the other said she d ask the kitchen & never came back. Used to be a favourite restaurant of mine but I won t be coming back. Complete disregard for nut allergies.
CHESTNUTS in a NUT-FREE dish and bad attitude from server! With much regret, I will no longer be eating at this restaurant. I ve been a regular for more than a year but after tonight s special family dinner, I will not be going here and I will warn friends who have food allergies. We visited a few days ago in person to order a special dinner for a family reunion. I specified that it should be NUT FREE as my son is very allergic to all nuts. I even asked the head waitress if the glutinous stuffed chicken had nuts. She said no nuts. She was wrong. The dish contained chopped chestnuts. When I bit down on the chestnut and realized what it was, I called a server over to ask. She INSISTED that the item was mushroom. I dug out bits of chestnut from the rice stuffing. The server just said Oh and walked away. She avoided our table after that. I called the head waitress over and complained. She gave us a weak apology, as if I was just being picky about my food. Hey, Oriental Gourmet: NUT ALLERGIES CAN KILL. Take it seriously. Dietary restrictions: NUT ALERT! If they tell you it s nut-free, they might be wrong.
They only accept cash and don t give receipts. I don t know if the tax money is 100% paid to the tax bureau. There is no fish sauce and it looks like chicken soup that has been left out for five or six days and smells like chicken. The fried clams in black bean sauce taste like disinfectant water. Whether I evade taxes or not is none of my business, but the food is really terrible.
This place is a hidden gem. The Teochew food is super authentic and the smoke duck is to die for. I ve been following this place since their Scarborough location and later the Markham location and was really sad when they closed for a bit before opening this new location.
This restaurant is locates at one of the senior building so target market is for senior people. Taste is very flat (no much salt I don t like salty food but this is way below my standard) but I can feel some msg after the meal.
Soothing and authentic Teochew style food. Had their pepper pork stomach soup and it was very warming and flavourful. Their sugar cane smoked duck is also really good. The marinated tofu and eggs are relatively bland in comparison. They offer free dessert - taro purple rice sweet soup at the end of the meal. Overall a great dinner. If coming on the weekends, highly recommend to make a reservation in advance. We went on a weekday at 7:30pm and there was only two tables of 4 left. Great location for family style dinner but be prepared to be shouted at if you don t speak loud enough as you order. Just some authentic Chinese restaurant experience :P
Dinner with friends last Sunday. Most of the foods were good except the size of the crabs were a bit small for the price. The almond coconut and chicken soup was the best.
Chaozhou cuisine, exquisite cooking skills, good taste
One of the few places in Toronto that serves Chiu Chow style cuisine.
First time here. Nice Chui Chau food, awesome service. Will reserve a big table for my family dinner
Good food, good service! Parking: A lot of parking spots behind the restaurant Food : 5/5 |
Authentic chiu chow restaurant! Located within the elderly apartments but dont let the location fool you, its definitely worth a try!
Hong Kong style Chiu Chow Food. Reminds me of eating in Hong Kong.
Their lunch combos and dinner are good.
Food was great! Very well balanced flavours - especially with the sweet and sour pork, fried just right and freshly and not drowning in overly sweetened or thickened sauce. Service was a little slow given that we thought coming for an early dinner slightly before 6pm would have helped to beat dinnertime rush, however, servers were nice and kind to tell us that our dishes were coming and to explain to us other dishes of interest. Chairs we sat on are foldout chairs and the floor was far too slippery for them. Beware if you have really elderly with your dining party, though the majority of the patrons at the time were somewhat on the elderly side. Kid-friendliness: Saw a lot of kids around and young families, so they seem to be able to cater for them. Wheelchair accessibility: Saw several elderlies with rollators, though the floor is a bit slippery.
Good service, great whiting fish. Great pork stomach soup, great satay beef flat noodle, great wide egg noodle
I used to visit this restaurant a lot when they were at the Silverstar Blvd and Highway 7. I decided to do a takeout lunch after knowing they are now at a new location. The fried satay beef noodles and black pepper pig stomach soup noodles were good. Ill try to eat in next time.
Optional mala cake for dessert
Food was ok. I have been there twice with my family. The manager there was rude since we asked for containers. There are better place out there with better service.
A real hidden gem. Im surprised chiu chew style assorted platter is not part of the menu highlights because its a must order in my opinion as its the perfect starter to any meal.
Place is clean. Service is good.
Very relaxing especially good for older people
Good food & telephone service - only wish the whole parking lot can be repaved/redone sooner to a good condition.
Quality food, great service~
Food is worse than previous location in Highway 7
Small but food is terrific. Very healthy....location is a bit odd, at the lobby of an elderly home.....
One of the best Chiu chow restaurants in town. Food and service are both good. It is a bit hidden inside a senior home condo building.
Amazing food! I m so happy to find teochew food as one of the diaspora. I took one star off (I wish I could give 4.5 stars) because of the aggressive Canadian goose at the front. This goose should be sent straight to the kitchen because it s hissing towards us and some elderly people. I didn t even know geese could hiss until I visited this restaurant. I wouldn t wanna live in this building when I retire.
Price reasonable
Although food tastes fine, most dishes are luke warm even the stir fried vegetables. The deep fried fish, cold crab taste good.
Unique chiu chow style cuisine that you cant get anywhere else in Toronto...
Some food ok some does not. Maybe only on my visit. Some of the dishes had quite amount of msg
Too much tofu!
If you are visiting this unique restaurant for the first time, watch out, you are not looking for a restaurant, but a condo tower set way back from the street. It would be an epic oversight if your friend who invited you didnt tell you that, and youd be circling the area looking. Once you traverse the long and winding driveway, look for a small sign that points you to the restaurant, but even that sign is confusing. OK, so you found the right place, which is airy with a large view out. The layout is kind of ad-hoc, with different size tables all over. The service is average. The food, because this is also the canteen for the seniors home, the food has low sodium and tastes a little home made, which can be good, or not so good depending on your taste. Personally, I find it slightly underwhelming as an eat out experience.
Nice food
A Chiu-chou style Chinese restaurant hidden in a senior apartment complex. Dishes are quite authentic. Better to go with at least 6 people so that you can try more dishes. Among the dishes we had, I liked the most the home styled oyster omelette , chiu-chow styled marinated duck, and deep-fried xenentodon. Better make reservations to avoid disappointment, and at the same time order the few dishes that require advance orders. Follow directions for restaurant-customer parking spots.
This Chiu Chow restaurant is located in the Vintage Garden seniors residential complex and is technically labeled as the Vintage Garden Dining Room on the ground floor of an apartment building (its almost like a large party room inside a condo). As other reviewers have pointed out, the entrance is not the most obvious, though there is some simple signage. Despite the unconventional location, the restaurant is clean and bright, and it was very busy on a Saturday night, with a steady stream of customers coming in and out. We opted not to get a set course menu and instead ordered various items we wanted to try. Everything was yummy and cooked well, and they served complimentary dessert. The menu was priced affordably. Definitely a hidden gem! Would come back again for dining in or takeout. Id recommend booking a reservation, especially if you have a big party.
Very good food, reasonable price.
Fantastic Chiu Zhou Chinese food, excellent taste special dishes, Sugar Vinegar noodle can be food and desert, also the smoke duck is really good.
Excelente food and services
Tastes pretty good
Enjoyed the Chiu Chow food, operated by the same owner of the old place - Oriental Gourmet
Very good Teochew cuisine and a good environment.
Top notch real chinese food, clean environment and dishes came out quickly. Prices are fair.
Good food, decent service. Parking: Ample, free parking
Great food !
Great food and service.
Bad experience, had to pay in cash and when I asked for a receipt I was told there was none. Businesses are clearly avoiding paying taxes. Crabs and other seafood don t come in pounds. When I asked them how they set prices, I was told that they had their own algorithm and couldn t comment on the specifics. The woman at the reception was rude and unreasonable. She secretly charged two portions for one portion of rice... Vegetarian options: Not available Dietary restrictions: The waiter didnt care at all and didnt take the initiative to ask. Parking: No parking space of your own Kid-friendliness: The environment is noisy and crowded, the staff is uncaring and not suitable for children. Wheelchair accessibility: None, not friendly to people with disabilities
Good Teochew restaurant
Although located within a privately-owned senior residence, it essentially operates as a branch of a local Chiuchow-style restaurant chain. As such, the food quality does not really seem to be tailored to aging residents in its healthiness. It is open to the public but not seven days a week, and requires reservations due to limited seating. It is also quite noisy inside, but tolerable. I would prefer if the restaurant was managed by in-house staff, though.
Food and price are perfect.
We went on Friday night. Sooo noisy and hard to hear friends from same table Vegetarian options: Not too much choices. Not good for any green vegetable. We order and disappointed as vegetable is huge whole piece yet soggy
Food is above average but not excellent. Price is good for what you get. Service is good. Place is clean. Not a bad restaurant.
This Chiu Chow style Chinese food restaurant located a place that no one would expected. (Find out yourself) The food is great and the restaurant is full house all evening. The atmosphere is not that great if you prefer less noise dining place. The marinated duck, intestine, and cuttlefish are great and bring back a lot good old memories about Chiu Chow food!
Very nice Chiu-chou style Chinese restaurant hidden in a Vintage Garden Senior residential complex. Dishes are authentic and taste good. Portion and price are decent.
The entire experience was very good as well as the food and price.
The food is good.
We ordered a set dinner menu with cold crabs, soy sauce duck, etc. Good enough for 8 people and everyone was full. We would say food tastes average and the menu is not pricy.
Authentic chui chow cuisine. Flavour and texture and cooking technique on point. Ordered takeout during pandemic, friendly service and quick execution. Can t wait to dine in to try more of their menu.
Food is okay but portion is small
Great Chinese cuisine !! Food is always amazing
Chiu chow (Teochow) food like it should taste. Satay beef noodles are exactly how it should taste. Oyster omelette has plenty of oysters and the requisite potato starch. If you think its filler, then you dont know authentic stuff. Happy to report, pandemic take out does no affect the quality. Even the deep fried writings stay crispy enough for me to chomp the heads and tails.
I usually buy lunch here for my parents. The foods were great, actually were more than great since they use all fresh vege and meats to cook, way better than the frozen things. The price is totally acceptable, cant find a better one around here.
Food and service are nice.
Great food and reasonable price. Good services and clean. Enough space divided each table.
Great food and excellent service! Enjoyed my time there, as the atmosphere given was very chill.
Good beef satay beef ho fun
They used to be located on highway 7 and mccowan called oriental gourmet. Their chiu chow food is authentic (my dad is from chiu chow) and the head chef is well known for specializing in chiu chow food. I love their deep fried shrimp and squid balls and their seafood noodles are fantastic. They do not sell their store made chili oil but i highly recommend you ask for chili oil on the side. Keep in mind they are cash only so go to the atm before you show up!
Small/Medium sized Chinese restaurant. Prices are reasonable. Parking spots are enough. Foods are good.
Love their oyster pancake. Service was great. Pricing was also very reasonable. No time limit for seating even on weekends before mid-Autumn festival.
Food is good and reasonably priced
Yummy food , good quality !
Cane sugar smoked duck was very delicious
Sitting is clean and neat. However, may be due to the design, the resturant is very noisy even no one speak loudly. I have a headach after the dinner! Smoke Duck is better than the soya spiced Duck. Oyster pancake is soso.
A fusion Chiu Chow food and they were very tasty, we had a dinner for 13 and a private room. All 8 dishes were tasty, including the dessert. You ought to give it a try.
Excellent Chui Chow food. Good service. Im not a seafood lover but their lobster was very good. Food presentation was good. Everything was clean. Im not a big fan of duck, but their smoked duck was quite good. Excellent really.
Chinese | Chiu Chou | Non-LLBO | Take out discount available Lovely little gem by a residence with wonderful, service and great food. Special combos need to be reserved a day in advance. Certain seasonal dishes may not be available (eg. Oyster omelette, cold crab, curry beef brisket, etc). Do ask for availability. Highly recommend the deep fried xenentondon fish, the smoked duck and the peppercorn pig tripe and preserved vegetables soup. Will definitely return again.
Monday n Tuesday closed Good food n clean place ...Will go again next week
Affordable prices, friendly servers, food are delicious and non-greasy . Tables are spread out. They checked our vaxx passport. We came on a weekday so it was not crowded. This place is clean. We will sure go again.
Nice areas and reasonable price
It is known that this Chinese restaurant in the clubhouse is managed by Chaoyang Shixuan and has many patrons, including residents of the vineyard and outsiders. To avoid waiting for a long time, you need to book a table in advance. The decoration here is novel. In addition to a hall, there is also a room that can accommodate more than 10 people, suitable for friends or family gatherings. This past Saturday, we had a dinner party here (we had previously booked a number of mainly Chaozhou-style side dishes to taste under the introduction of the manager). There is no doubt that the chefs cooking skills are very high and it is a feast for the eyes. Some of our favorite dishes include Teochew frozen crab, glutinous rice chicken, sugar cane aromatic duck and Cai Yuan Satay Beef River. In addition, its desserts, such as taro paste, three-color crystal buns and Cha Za, are also very delicious. This is a restaurant worthy of our recommendation.
Their satay beef noodles ( ) is the best in town. Flavourful and meaty. Highly recommend.
