2072 Lawrence Ave E, Scarborough, ON M1R 2Z5, Canada
We have been serving “all day” breakfast since 1958! We take pride in serving our customers fresh homemade ingredients. Our peameal bacon and eggs are our specialty. We only use the highest quality ingredients in preparing our meals. Freshly squeezed orange juice, daily delivery of freshly baked bread, homemade soup, fresh not frozen french fries and home fries made the old fashioned way! We just don’t serve coffee, we serve a cup of friendliness. Come for breakfast or lunch.
I have known/ eaten at Wexfords for a large chunk of my life and the food is always consistent, the staff are always extremely friendly and the owner is a super nice guy.
Order the kids meal because I think this is the maximum number of calories an average adult should be ingesting for a breakfast. It was descent, great service and the freshly squeezed orange juice was more than appreciated. Thank you! The seating and the restaurant are nice, a lot of wood and vinyl like some typical places in the USA. Staff here are really sweet and generous.
Almost $8 for a Orange juice of this size. I just feel I have been robe. Food isn’t even that good. My bacon almost burn. My bfs peameal so much fat. I would never be back to that place.
One of the best places to have a hot fresh breakfast, big enough to feed two who doesn't love bottomless coffee with fast &Friendly customers service, meals are big enough to feed two worth, so it's worth the time to stop by or order to go and get some good fast, fresh, filling food great to bring your family too! This is a great place to also bring your family too lot's of seating, very clean and well kept, this place feels like eating at the comfort of your home, I highly recommend eating here
Only good for breakfast Everything else is terrible. My vegetables were so overcooked they were almost liquid. Chicken was bone dry and gravy tasted like packet sauce. Even the mashed potatoes were dry! Terrible.
The portions are large and I’ve been here before this red has been here since 1958 which for any restaurant is amazing. Staff friendly and polite you have banks for seating food is great had peameal bacon as hadn’t had any in a while breakfast was really good throughly enjoyed. You can sit read the paper your not rushed here you eat in peace which for me is important but well some people will like this some want it’s the way it is.
I go to this place for lunch and I really like it. Nice variety on the menu and the service is faster with friendly staff. Coffee cup is never empty. You feel like you are in a small town eating here, easy to forget you are in Toronto. I can't describe it well but you just feel good being here. On a side note it's really quirky. There are signs all around that claim factually unverifiable statements like - over 500 dozen eggs served daily and - winner of the golden cup award for best coffee (classic diner claim) or 4 billion oranges squeezed for juice since opening. It's like, never even close to busy enough to believe any of it, but it's just funny to me.
Fantastic place. Love the patio but the service is rather slow. Food is really good. Fair price. Coffee bottomless
The place is overpriced for regular breakfast food. 4 dollars for a pinch of cinnamon on toast. Coffee was good.
Service was excellent, and the owner even gave us a generous cup of freshly squeezed orange juice for free. However, as other reviewers pointed out, the food does not look appealing at all, and I saw a large cockroach right after paying for the bill....
Good food, overpriced , not the value it once was
My family has been going since my mom was little. Shed go with her parents and sister and for the first time I went today and it was just as amazing as my mom and gran described. The three of us thoroughly enjoyed our food and service was lovely!! Im definitely going back, no doubt about it
Wasnt bad, just like old times
5/5 classic diner vibes!
Great food. Iconic neighborhood restaurant.
Used to be good but the food is going downhill. Service was friendly.
enjoyed my breakfast
Orange juice was amazing, but ordered steak and eggs that was $28 the steak you could tell was previously frozen in way over cooked.... I ordered medium rare more of the rare it was well done, told the Waitress nothing was done about it
Classic Toronto breakfast mainstay.
Delicious
Stop and think before coming here for breakfast!!! The food food was cold and my eggs were only 1/2 cooked. The price was ridiculous for the quality of food and service we got.
It was fine.
Orange juice price is $6.75 . I can buy 1L of that price
Jens and my by weekly breakfast or brunch escape. Great people. Great food and servicr... cozy dinning... misdong it for four months now.
Menu seems overpriced.
I went to the Wexford today for peameal bacon and eggs. It was very good and so was the service. Highly recommended.
Solid diner. Went with kids for breakfast. Service and food were excellent. Great coffee.
Awesome place and food
Ah the Wexford- such a Scarborough institution. Ive patronized them for 20 years when in the area. Breakfasts are prepared correctly and generously portioned. Peter the manager was there and offered a complimentary fresh squeezed orange juice. Nice touch. Coffee was plentiful and service was very attentive. Feels just like going to moms for breakfast. A real jewel in an increasingly cosmopolitan area of the city.
Breakfast menu is very limited in selection and over priced. We both ordered bacon and eggs, the bacon was cold and eggs were warm so between the high cost and low quality definitely wont be returning. $12.95 for what most breakfast places have for $6.95, best to go anywhere else. Service was below average, never once asked if we wanted a coffee refill, not sure why anyone would ever come back.
Love coming here for breakfast. All of the staff are extremely friendly and the service is always quick and efficient! The food is always cooked exactly as advertised and they are great with modifications to the menu to suit dietary restrictions and allergies.
Our first time there and was superb. We will return.
Expensive as hell ... If you want to pay near double for regular greasy spoon food go ahead. This place went down hill
Wexford Restaurant has the most tasty Breakfast one could ever desire. Of the 54 countries and their restaurants I had the opportunity to dine in, this one not only serves you the best Breakfast but the service is quick and staff and owners are very friendly.
Relaxed atmosphere and great food!
Great!
Just as good as it always was.
Very odd tasting gravy, had a strong peanut flavor. Was given a burger with zero sauce after requesting everything on the burger. Not a positive experience.
Very nice staff and hardy home style meals.
Great food
Delicious home made food
No light breakfast or food. I like fruit dishes with my breakfast. Too expensive
Maybe its nostalgia but I love this place
Great service, great food, classic Toronto feel. 100% must visit spot
Best breakfast in Scarborough hands down fresh OJ great tasting eggs love the atmosphere servers are super friendly
Best breakfast place in Scarborough
My waitress looked like she was still drunk from last night. Food was cold. If I could just write a review with no star I would. Second time this has happened to me while being there. I will never be back.
Comfortable place !!!
Old school breakfast with a creative classic feel. Fantastic food and people at the wexford!!
Dirty and food is overpriced.
First time here since moving to the area a year ago. Generous portion with that comfort and hearty taste, exactly what we were looking for. Feels like the OG of breaky spots. Will be back for sure.
Old furniture
Good food and very friendly staff.
The Wexford restaurant is one of the first restaurants built in the Wexford area of Scarborough. I know that because there are pictures of the place hanging on the walls inside the restaurant. Its sort of like a museum inside with all the nostalgic photos of topography and the Toronto Maple Leafs. So come for the tour and stay for the food. Its pretty good.
Good homemade food friendly service
Warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff was very friendly and the food was great. Cant wait to go back!
Prices are too much for the quality of food you get. Inattentive service. Expected more from a place with such longevity.
Great 3rd generation family run restaurant. Friendly staff and good food.
Good food friendly service, been a customer since the 1960s when mom would take me there.
Needs updating on food selection. Not as busy as before.
Nice clean place and excellent food. Wexfords atmosphere is very nice, patrons and and staff are very friendly. It felt like having lunch with family.
Its ok.
One of the last greasy spoon joints of the old school era! Need to go here to keep that old way alive.
Very expensive for breakfast! $20 for a $7 breakfast!
The Wexford is a landmark old school style generous amount of food good price point
We stop for breakfast anytime we are in Scarborough early enough
They have a fantastic breakfast menu. So many items to choose from.Try the peameal bacon & eggs
Friendly staff
The Best
Service was great, friendly waitress Chanel was perfect.. food was good , my kids gobbled down those burgers, fresh OJ was amazing.
Went here today for Father s Day things started out not so great. We waited a long time to get a menu. Considered leaving but called another place near buy and they had a line up so we hung tight. The waitress finally came and we got our coffee and water. We were thinking this was going to be a long wait. We explained we needed to get our daughter to the train and she assured us she would do her best to get us out ASAP. She lived up to her promise she got us the food quick and we got out in good time to get to the station. Food was good. Hot and fresh. Eggs cooked as requested
Delicious burgers
Great Service, portions and quality!!
Food was fine, service was fine, bit expensive considering. Honestly just kinda average place overall.
Awesome hospitality, gave us a free glass of freshly squeezed orange juice
during the Taste of Lawrence I went to the outdoor patio for a beer. We sat down and waited for a server to take our order. We waited 30 minutes and no one came, so we got up and left.
Been here once and will not come back. Very expensive for what you get. *Juice was a ridiculous price, too.
Good on this plazas ownership for trying something new to bring the community together through the WexPOPS temporary installation.
Went with bf had good food and good tims will return when in ciry
Very unoriginal, boring breakfast fare at very high prices. When you go out to eat, you want your food to be at least be as good as but hopefully better than what you can make at home... This place is not that.
Good food at a good price.
Poor customer service with subtle rudeness and not genuine. Food was okay yet the price was expensive. Meal proportion was not accurate based on the menu. It said that the restaurant was 60 years now however the short-statured waitress and the man with a long curly hair had an attitude.
Dont like hearing racists comments from the owner plus liberals are not welcomed here. Food was good nothing to get excited about and was over priced for what you get
Served me expired meat on my sandwich. Couldnt even take a bite. Waitress was nowhere to be found until the rest of my party completed their meals. Only then could I mention that mine was inedible. The meat smelt so sour it amazes me that they would even attempt to serve it. Side note. The bun was stale too. Youve been warned.
once a week atleast, gotta have it! Great food, great people, great establishment. I take anyone I can with me and tell all I know about it. And their orange juice is spectacular.
Very expensive
We have been going to the Wexford for decades for breakfast. We have always found the food to be good, quick and priced right. You can almost spend the same from Mcdonalds for cost of eating here. Large servings and the staff has always been friendly with us. We would go more often if we were around more. You have to try to orange juice it is freshly squeezed but more pricey than the fake orange juice you buy at the store.
My server was so nice I forgot to get her name. First time here and will definitely be back.
Great Home Made style of food . Family run for generations . Easy going just great food and people.
Great breakfast at 6am on a Saturday. Friendly and quick service. Pricing is on the high side but reasonable. My eggs, sausage, toast and home fries were all perfectly prepped. Cant ask for better.
Sadley the wexford is a bit tired. Very expensive for the quality you get. Friendly staff and we had a great server hence 3 stars.
Good food, cozy atmosphere
Breakfast was great
Great hearty breakfast with real home fries. Friendly fast service.
Ive been going there off & on for 30 years. I still like it there.
Staff friendly foods OK but a little on the pricey side. Coffee, omelet with hashbrowns and toast 21 bucks holy cow!
Not cheap for a greasy spoon
I came here to eat breakfast with my family. The service was good. The waitress was friendly but the food was terrible. I ordered eggs, peameal bacon and home fries and it seemed like my food wasnt properly cooked and tasted bland also, there was a white slimy film on my peameal bacon. The restaurant has an old school look to it and it seems really dirty like it hadnt been cleaned in while. And to my horror I noticed a dead squished cockroach on the floor right beside our table. I dont recommend this place at all. Dont come here. I think this place has been in business too long and needs to be shut down.
One of my favourite breakfasts. Do yourself a favour and try the peameal bacon.
Very friendly service. Old fashioned (looks like the 1970s), large diner specializing in egg-centred breakfasts. Ham, bacon, eggs, white or brown toast with home-made fried potatoes. Decent but not particularly healthy and certainly not trendy.
Expensive but good
Great food cheap prices awesome staff....typical greasy spoon breakfast joint
Ive eaten here twice. Both times the food was poor and the price double what you d normally pay. Do yourself a favour and eat elsewhere... The first time I ate there I asked for their signature dish, the peameal bacon breakfast. It cost around $17 after taxes and tip. Much more than is usual for this dish. And there was nothing special about it. Today I ordered the lunch special, sausage on a bun for $10. When it came it was just that...a sausage on a bun, laid diagonally across the plate so as to make the plate look full. But it wasnt. They did add a slice of lemon to try to liven things up, but the offering was desultory and meagre at best. Unwilling to pay $13 or so for what is basically a hotdog, I returned it. The waitresses were nice but this place is overpriced and the food nothing to get excited about.
Been going to this family-oriented restaurant since 1975! Staff are very nice, never cross..service and price are excellent! Loved it!
Great food, amazing people, I love it there.
Large portions . Freshly squeezed oj
Good value, very fast service, and endless coffee.
Nice staff. Furniture could use updating.
An institution. Love the decades of history it oozes. Take a couple mins to explore the walls. Watch the short doc made for scarborough film festival about their story. Generational, family run. Love the feel and food was good. Everything great except -1 for prices - more expensive for breakfast food than comparables.
Nice service, great breakfast in an old school setting.
Ive eaten there many times over the years over my life and its great
Great place for a greasy diner breakfast.
Service was good got food quick but seemed like it was pretty cooked
Good food
good for breakfast
The Wexford is celebrating 60 years owned and operated by three generations of one family. There are two sides to the restaurant with plenty of seating with booths and tables. Staff and customers are friendly. Portions are very large. Menu choices include plenty of 1960s diner comfort foods: hot sandwiches; chopped steak; liver and onions; fish and chips; pork chops; big breakfasts; salads; souvlaki ... Coffee mugs are very large. Fresh squeezed orange juice is a wonderful treat. No barriers to access. Ground floor washroom. Lots of room for wheelchairs and walkers. There is a large patio in the parking lot in front of the restaurant. It would be a lovely spot for breakfast once the weather warms up.
Excellent place excellent food I had a hot hamburger I ended up costing me 25 bucks which I found expensive but it was excellent
Gray breakfast.
Food was average at best and double what you would normally pay. Service was adequate.
Great place, good food great service!
Its my first time at this restaurant and I hated it. The service is bad and the food is worse. The food has no taste at all, very little food choices. Not worth your money.
My kids took me there for mothers day breakfast and it was my worst breakfast ever. Bad service, bad tasting food and very high prices.
Their breakfasts are pretty solid, fresh orange juice is amazing. Burgers are eh. Staff are lovely, warm, treat you like family.
Great spot to meet and eat the old traditional way
A long time Scarborough diner in a stip plaza. Good food but a bit pricey.
Great Breakfast
Little on pricy side but good quality
Wow, in operation for 60yrs this year. Fast friendly hospitality with hugh value and portions for traditional home style food.
The very best place in Toronto for breakfast, but aldo good for other meals. I hope this place stays forever!
Old time favourite for breakfast
We have been there many times before but not in the last 10 years. The food was terrible and the cost was very high. Never again.
Good size portions. Friendly staff. But over expensive for what you get.Old decor & slow service.
Great Service and the ambiance of an old dinner. Fresh sqeezed OJ. Price but worth the experience.
Awesome staff, I cant stress this enough. The food is pretty typical bacon and eggs, but they have fresh squeezed orange juice that is absolutely amazing, make sure to ask for a glass.
Too many fake 4 or 5 star reviews on here. Can t trust google ratings! Yelp has this at 2.5 stars, which is still generous. We didn t get past coffee as the prices were absolutely shocking. $7 for an orange juice, $7 for a grilled cheese, $12 for a bacon and egg breakfast?! How about $20 for a salad? Haha! Server was very nice, yes, but she s not getting paid more because of the high prices. She also told us that open hours are less and less because they can t afford to be open... hmmmm, owners might want to look at their business model and see if it fits today s world.
Good
I went here with my family expecting it will be like any family-owned restaurant Ive been too but worst place Ive too. Went it and smells like oil and grease and maybe give the food a try. I looked at the menu the price was too expensive and when I got our food ( we ordered pancakes and eggs), it wasnt worth it. My kid didnt even eat the pancakes because it tasted weird he said. But staff is friendly. This place needs to update their ventilation systems and update their place to make it more family-friendly.
Always friendly staff and the food tastes great
Excellent portions of food and great friendly service
Great service Great breakfast
Old school family restaurant. Great food. Unbelievable orange juice! Affordable too.
Classic diner food. Amazing burgers! Not to expensive for what you get. Would reccomend.
Food portions are enormous. Has a very retro style that is charming. Try the fresh orange juice
Great tasting big portions but getting to expensive
Over priced diner-style breakfast!
One of the best breakfast in town
The food is great! I ordered a big breakfast with lots of meat and eggs. The staff was friendly but could be a bit better. Would come here again many times
Delicious brunch/breakfast/homestyle food in a family neighborhood favorite. Celebrating 60 years in operation- which says it all!@ The rice pudding is my favorite in the city.
Nothing really special going on at the old Wexford. The food really is lazy and the place is overpriced especially for what they serve. Worst scrambled eggs around, would it hurt to beat the eggs a little. Super mediocre. Time to let her go.
Very average food and coffee. My homemade potatoes had been cooked for a while and were dry. Our bench seat was a little torn. On the other hand, the staff is very welcoming and kind!
Iconic 1950s Restaurant. Breakfast built the business and is still the backbone. Ive been going here for 40+ years. The neighborhood is becoming middle East businesses so great food everywhere.
Good food, Great service, friendly, local feel
Over priced!
Great breakfast and great staff!
Its ok, comfort food and breakfast. Wish they were a little more generous with their portions. Pemale bacon is sliced thinly. They rely too heavily on there history in the area.
Great food, atmosphere and the staff is a amazing! I would highly recommend coming here for breakfast!! Oh and the coffee!!!! Absolutely amazing!!
4 sausages and 3 small eggs for $13 ! Other restaurants sell a larger breakfast with 2 meats for 11 ! Potatoes for homefries were old and stale with no flavour and chewy and not many. Service was acceptable though they did forget the peanutbutter for my toast. Decor hasnt been updated in 30 years at least . This place used to be good. Time for them to get back on their game or close.
Pricey but good food and service
Meh.. WAY over priced for very basic food.
Used to be great experience but they are pricing themselves out of the market! $18.00 for sausage and eggs with Coffee?
Excellent place
Perfect spot for an early morning breakfast, their freshly squeezed orange juice is the best. Customer was also amazing, would definitely recommend this place if youre into home made style breakfast. Havent been here for lunch or dinner but it gets pretty packed sometimes in the morning. The restaurant is designed with the historical pictures and articles of the Wexford area where it is located. Will definitely return.
Amazing food. I have a peanut allergy they are peanut free !!! Check it out for sure will be coming back
Always a good visit at the Wex.
Unfortunate I did not enjoy my first experience here. The breakfast was terrible, potatoes were undercooked, the toast was terrible and orange juice over priced. I was disappointed with the price I paid for breakfast $25 and the quality provided. A poor way to make a first impression.
If youre a person of color, STAY AWAY!!!! Youve been warned. Im a visbile minority, I went in with the mother of my kids who happens to be white. As soon as we sat down and began to chat and look at the menu, I could literally feel someone staring a hole through my body. I looked up and sure enough the waitress and one of the cooks who were both white were giving me these dirty looks. At that point I should of left but I just made a mental note to check my food thoroughly before I start eating which turned out to be a HUGE mistake. Anyway, our food arrives, looks great, Im starving, so I immediately dig in completely forgetting to check my food. Im three quarters through the meal when I remember to check the food. My instincts were spot on!!!! Under a peice of ham I find a small peice of black, sticky, nasty debris like substance which also had hair in it. I KID YOU NOT! How convenient that it was tucked UNDER a peice of meat and not visible just by looking right at it. I so wish I took a pic of it right there and then but I was so disgusted and mortified that I just called to the waitress and asked her to call the owner over. He comes over almost instantly and I pointed it out to him. His response was oh thats just bacon grease and drippings from the grill. As if Ive never cooked bacon and dont know what bacon drippings look like. I pointed out the hair that was also in it, he kept saying Im sorry, I dont know how that got in it. He said hell take my meal off the bill which he did and came over with two glasses of complimentary freshly squeezed orange juice. I didnt touch it, I was waaaaayyyyyyy too disgusted with them at this point. I didnt even bother mentioning to him that his cook was giving me dirty looks so I believe that it was intentional because of course he would of denied it and it may of led to an arguement. And of course me being a black man Im automatically the angry black thug which requires police intervention. So I just paid the bill and we left. I use to go here to eat every once in a while, with coworkers, by myself, and even brought my family a couple times but NEVER AGAIN!!!! I REPEAT, IF YOU ARE A VISIBLE MINORITY, STAY CLEAR OF THIS PLACE!!!!!
