California Sandwiches in Scarborough

Probably the worst sandwich I ve ever had. It was messy, bland, and overloaded with tomato sauce. I went with the popular veal sandwich based on a recommendation, but what I got was a soggy disaster. Even though I added cheese, it was so poorly made I couldn t taste it at all when cheese is invisible, you know there s a problem. If this is a taste of California cuisine, I ll be steering clear.

I ve been told to go to this place for over a year. I was really excited to go. I Finally went and God was lt disappointing. Their sandwiches have no flavour and are so dry, even with the cold cooked onions piled on top, The sandwich tasted Like lt was made hours ago. Their sauce is disgusting. I m not sure if it was this location, but I was told this location was the best so if this is the best of their restaurants, it s not looking so hot for the others. Didn t even finish half of my sandwich, my small Chicken sandwich.

I don t know if head Office gives out too much food or was this franchise doesn t put up enough food smaller sandwich I wonder if there is an inspector for the franchise location

Not very impressed right now. I went for my usual white paper bag of onion rings and was told that they changed their sizes. So I ordered large onion rings just to receive a white fry cup with a total of 11 onion rings and the price was the same as before. Same price but way less food. Wont be back. Its not worth it anymore.

My sons favourite place. Great Anana melting icebergs with her warm, and food is absolutely fantastic, You cant find better deals.

I gave a 2 star rating because I sent my son to pick up veal sandwiches. He ordered 2 veal sandwiches with everything on them (sweet pepper, sauteed mushroom and onion and provolne cheese). The order taker was obviously asleep at the cash register because we did not get any of the everything toppings he asked for. The bun, the veal and the tomato sauce left the sandwich dry like the Sahara Desert which took a full can of coke to wash down 1/2 of a sandwich. Ive noticed that lately foodservice personell everywhere really dont care about detail. Sad because I used to like their food very much. Did not enjoy dinner tonight and the sandwich was so dry that my wife could not choke it all down. Likely 1/2 of her sandwich half ended up in the garbage. I hate wasting food and money. I wont be ordering here any time soon.

I am not complaining about the food . Everytime I ask for extra hot , they always charge 30cents for extra hot but never ever put extra hot. I dont know why, but they charge perfectly right

I think food is good, pretty big sandwiches. However everyone that works there especially this location has a stick up their bum! Everyone is so rude and not always helpful. And I personally hate that you have to pay for each topping. I rather support a local Italian small business even it cost a bit more than support this location. Although if you do come lots of parking & a dine in space. My order: A mini chicken with cheese & hot peppers = $12.48 (including tax)

Ive been going here since the original location on Claremont. That was 30ish years ago. Back then, I could eat 2 sandwiches, a steak and a meatball. Now, one sandwich is 2 meals. Times have changed. Still, it is a delicious experience.

The eggplant burger was delicious, but the veal wasnt so fresh it was chewy

I frequent their Woodbridge location and was in the area; decided to go to the Warden Ave site and ordered the steak/onions with hot peppers. The staff were friendly and courteous and this is where my positive experience ends! My sandwich was too salty to the point it was not editable and did not have any hot peppers added. I am truly disappointed in the quality of my sandwich (theyre not cheap!) and had to throw away.

Ordered steak sandwich,very disappointed. The steak was very salty ,dry and very little sauce. This is the second time I ve ordered the steak sandwich at this location. Both expirences were disappointed. Won t order again.

Once I saw the size of these sandwiches come out of the kitchen, I was taken back. A steaming tower of breaded filets, between a crunchy fresh bun. The process and presentation is as good as it gets. Each order is sliced in half in front of your very eyes, the hot tomato sauce pours out the sides into a paper package, immersing the flavours until the recipient reveals a family delicacy. Try a mini, for under $10, and all the same experience.

Delicious sandwich and if the regular size its too much for you they have a mini version, perfect spot to have lunch.

Love the sandwiches. Ready quick. Great that they give a bunch of napkins for take out as the sandwiches are super messy! But also super delicious. Like the option of two different sized sandwiches. Wish they still had the rapini topping though.

The top front sign board is small and the fonts and the colours are not the same so I was confused if I am entering the same famous California sandwiches. (Just like the one one York mills ) The sandwich was tasty but the bread was so hard and not same as you get from York mills store. The bread seemed stale and old. I guess I will continue going to the store at the York mills.

We dont dine in just come for the sandwiches. We ordered the veal and the Eggplant parmigiana! Its our usual. It always turns out well. We are lucky they have a place in the East End. Weve been going to Californias for years off of College St. ( The original) Vegetarian options: Eggplant parmigiana, the pasta with no meat sauce, fries, Arancini rice balls Parking: Located in the large strip mall. Kid-friendliness: The pasta is good there are fries and mozzarella sticks that kids love to eat. The sandwiches are large and can get messy but you can cut them into smaller pieces too.

We ordered veal sandwich. It was too oily and very poor of teaste.

Please get rid of those new buns. Go back to the old ones

I ordered a veal sandwich with cheese to go. This has got to be one of the most flavourful sandwiches that I ve ever had. The meat was cooked perfectly and the portions were on point (def not gonna finish it in one sitting). My only complaint which is dependent on the person is that I don t like sandwiches that have too much sauce as they are messer to eat.

Very nice and cooperative staff , I came here for first time with my friend, ordered chicken sandwiches and I had some home made food, they let me warm my homemade food and eat at the place, such good place and people haven t seen anywhere, I would recommend everyone must visit once at this place.

Got the eggplant sandwich and riceballs - delicious! So impressed with the quality and portion size. Expect a bit of a wait since the food is made to order, but its worth it! Cant wait to go back and try more.

The eggplant sandwich I ordered was MASSIVE, tasty, and fresh. The only downside to this place is that it was a zoo during the lunch hour and they seemed to be understaffed. I called in an order ahead of time and it wasnt clear if I had to line-up or not but when I saw online order people skipping ahead, I figured it was ok too. Turns out it was ok. The line was 15 or so people deep at the lunch hour so be prepared for a long wait if you dont order ahead of time. Parking: Tons of parking as this is part of a huge complex that includes Lowes.

Wow, what a great sandwich. I had the full sized Veal sandwich with half sauce to keep the mess down. Will have the Mini sandwich which has one Veal Cutlet rather than two.

The sandwiches taste good but are expensive once you add toppings like cheese, mushrooms, onions, peppers etc. Each topping costs around $2. They are very big so its worth it.

I ve hear a lot of great things about California Sandwiches and I was excited to try it. I ordered the steak sandwich with mushrooms. I was so disappointed when I unwrapped my sandwich. Im all for a messy sandwich but this was just a mess. The bun wasn t cut through, the meat and sauce had fallen off, i wasn t able to pick it up. The steak was dry and bland. I m glad I tried it, but I won t be back. There are far better places to eat in the area.

We called in our order and food was ready within 20-25 minutes. We enoy the sausage sandwich, mini chicken and mini eggplant. If you prefer not too much bread, I suggest you get this as portions for a mini is still quite big. As well, if you want your food to stay crispy, ask for your sauce on the side (its a bit extra but def worth it). Also, their onion rings are delicious!!!! Super crispy and huge portion for sharing! Went again tonight and havent been there in a while but definitely still the same in terms of portion, great taste and great service!

Dont know why but things have changed . Today I pick up the same sandwich and found no meat inside but full of onion. Changing my review to 1 star. Kept my old photo with todays one just for reference. When I call to complain the lady simply said different cook put different amount of meat. This much in difference is called scamming Nobody can beat the quality and quantity of this steak sandwich with the price. The meat is extremely juicy and flavourful. The onion sauce goes perfectly with the meats.

Ordered 3 veal sandwiches and one chicken at Warden/Eglinton location. Prices were reasonable until you add toppings. Mushrooms, Peppers, Cheese, Hot Peppers all cost 2Dollars each. After this my sandwich is closer to 18/20 Dollars. Cost 78 Dollars for 4 sandwiches that were nothing great. Over priced. Might explain why the place was empty. Oh yeah, They forgot the Hot Peppers on my sandwich.

Great shop and magnificent sandwiches. I will be a customer quite often at this establishment. These sandwiches are like the original shop always on point and delicious. The staff here are great and very courteous .

Favorite sandwich in the City since Katzs Deli closed. Can only finish half of their veal sandwich because the portion is so generous!

All Californias are not the same. I know its the same owners and they try and follow the same recipe that Nona used but honestly if you want to experience the best veal or chicken sangwich you have to go to the Warden location. The original one downtown on Claremont, the one on Dufferin and the one on Chesswood are all sub-par compared to the Warden location. I cant speak for their other menu items but the veal sangwich and the chicken are the best in town. I usually just get a hot veal or hot chicken and they are always delicious, filling and never disappointing!

Sandwiches are enormous and taste spectacular. I had the veal and it was fantastic.

The girl with dark hair and a ponytail was fantastic, and her smile ))) one of the best sandwiches in this side of the city. Highly recommend.

Unique enough to get 4 stars. Its a massive sandwich spot. If you are a big eater youll be more than satisfied. If youre not well its cut in have so you can share it or save the other half. The sandwiches are good. Not a place you should be going on the regular but definitely a place youll be thinking about from time to time.
