I had a wonderful experience at Atchayam Despite calling just half an hour before closing, the owner Thayalan was incredibly kind and welcoming, hosting my family and me with great hospitality. The food was served hot, fresh, and absolutely delicious—it reminded me of home with its authentic flavors and comforting taste. We truly appreciated their generosity and the exceptional service. Highly recommend this place!
Was missing some authentic south indian cuisine, took a chance on this restaraunt and it was amazing! Ghee Parotta and Chicken Salna hit the spot, the server was very friendly and helpful, recommended the better option of what we asked for, it was awesome! Would recommend to anyone missing a classic south indian meal! Filter coffee also hit the spot!
We always comes here. This is one of our favourite restaurant in GTA. great food. Reasonable price. Amazing customer service.
Ordered some take out as I was missing South Indian food. Their veg Salna and porotta was bomb. Made me miss my boarding school days in Bengaluru. And their idli and sambar to die for ( soft and flavorful sambar) very efficient guy who took the order. Will be back for more on the other things on the menu.
First time trying this place. Randomly found this hidden gem while driving on Lawrence drive. Ordered the Ghee Parotta with Chettinad Chicken. It was phenomenal, I must say. The service was great, too. Definitely coming back here again!
We had a pleasant dinner at Atchayam South Indian Restaurant. Here are the details: 1. Masala Dosa: This was a highlight of our meal. The dosa was crispy, and the potato filling was flavorful. For the price, it was excellent value. 2. Plain Dosa: Simple yet delicious. The dosa was perfectly cooked, and it paired well with the chutneys and sambar provided. 3. Country Chicken Curry: The curry had a wonderful homemade flavor, which made it stand out. The spices were well-balanced, giving it an authentic taste. 4. Poratha: The poratha was flaky and buttery, perfect for dipping into the curry. Additionally, they served us complimentary Vada, which was a pleasant surprise. The Vada was crispy on the outside and soft inside, a delightful treat. While we thoroughly enjoyed the food, there were a few areas for improvement: • Atmosphere: The restaurant’s ambiance could be enhanced to make it more inviting and comfortable. • Service: The service was decent, but there are some rooms for improvement. Overall, we had a good experience at Atchayam South Indian Restaurant. Thank you very much, and we look forward to visiting again!
Hey there this is my genuine feedback for this good South Indian restaurant (they from Thanjavoor) .. This restaurant was started 3 years ago, I just happened to visit today for a tea. I was blown away by their menu ,pricing ,their pricing their friendly welcoming service etc etc. and for malayalees , idli sambar and all our taste. Also a big highlight is its very affordable for students that’s how the pricing is made and quality of food -you come and check .. If you ever tried kalakki Omelette in kochi (liquid texture but cooked ), only in this place I found. I will share some photos including menu and interior. And for my malayalee friends - ധൈര്യമായി ഇങ്ങു വാ I don’t know where you can get non veg Thali meals for $12.99 ..
Went here for the first time, must say I liked it. Portion size was good as per the pricing. Service was very pleasant. Ordered Chicken 65 Biriyani, Egg Veech porota, Chicken 65 and Mutton Kothu porota. The chicken 65 had a lot of coloring, it was on the container as well which was off putting to be honest. Everything else tasted decent.
The customers are welcoming, they talk nicely, the food is good, everything is good.
I ordered through Uber today, their food was excellent and please try their vadai.
We went there on my birthday, We are 4 people, as I like South Indian foods, but my other friends and my wife they were bit confused about the taste. After having the meal, and seeing the price everyone was amazed how good it was with minimum spending. Overall good food, good place and value for money. Vegetarian options: We ordered vegetable Halka noodles, which is quite good. If compared with the price the quality and quantity of food is much better then, so hyped restaurants. We should start trying out these types of small places run by family or individuals, where they only focus on food quality with customer satisfaction rather than just earning money.
One of the Best restaurant in Scarborough.Tasty food .been a customer for this place over a year even though never getting bored with their food.Kind a home food feeling.Specially quick service with love.
Great food and great service
The food taste and quality was amazing. The owner was always attentive and ready to serve with a smile. Very generous portions. Excellent value for money
Best restaurant in scarborough very budget friendly. Owner is always give familyer services and chicken chettinad, 65 briyani, egg veechu is top notch..... thanks atchayam family
We were there on Saturday evening, 9th Nov 2024. Front desk person was so unhygienic that he knows that we were seeing him.. He was cleaning the tables, floor mats and without even washing hands serving on the food.. We all got sick after having food from here.. Coffee was a disaster.. I am never ever visiting this restaurant. I wish some option for hygiene here...
The only place go to when I miss my mom s cooking. Great tasting tamil food at unbeatable price.
Egg veechu with plain salna is too good. Kothu parotta is also very good. It s tastes very authentic. I completely forgot that I am having food in some canada restaurant, it s really felt like I was in back home. Definitely this will be my go to restaurant whenever I visit Scarborough. Price is also very reasonable for that quality of food.
Could give it more than 5 star for the taste. It s the authenticity and flavour of the chettinadu that s not diluted nor compromised. It took me back to the days of authentic chettinadu food from Tamilnadu! The owner was very pleasant and polite, so were the staff. Quick service. Don t expect a fancy big restaurant, it s the feel of the small cozy restaurant . Highly recommend this place.
After a long absence, I finally enjoyed a delightful sambar and ghee dosa. The vada was exceptional, truly reminding me of home. Don t miss the parotta and Chettinad chicken curry theyre absolute must-tries!
Excellent food. Very reasonable prices
This is a really good place . The food was fantastic
Take HEALTH INSURANCE before you go... Hygiene - 0/5 Service - 0/5 use at your OWN RISK....
Place was decent, food was best. The restaurant people are very welcoming. Prices are also good.
Food and speed of serving is good. Especially the veg and non veg thali. Loaded with multiple curries giving a taste of authentic south Indian food.
Best place for non veg meals
I loved the food. It was so good. Will definitely visit again.
Hot furnace kitchen vents into dining area. Only use their take away
My first South Indian food experience in this restaurant is tremendously great The owner and the waiter are super hospitality and they bring the experience to the next level Im gonna be here again for sure Highly recommend to try!
I recently had breakfast at Atchayam Restaurant, and it was a delightful experience. The sambar, idly, and masala dosa were all exceptional. The idlies were perfectly fluffy and paired wonderfully with the flavorful sambar, which had a great balance of spices and a rich, savory taste. The masala dosa was crisp and golden, with a well-seasoned filling that complemented the dosa s texture beautifully. The simplicity of these classic dishes was elevated by the quality of ingredients and careful preparation. The service was friendly and efficient, adding to the overall pleasant experience. If youre looking for a satisfying and authentic South Indian breakfast, Atchayam Restaurant is definitely worth a visit.
Excellent service food was delicious customer service was awesome
Vegetarian options: One of the best vegetarian food options in Scarborough Food

Super food and love the service. Every south Indian must try it out. Food
Yummy food and great prices too!
This place takes you back to your streets back home. A full South Indian experience, taste and ambience wise. Food 10/10. Money 10/10 And they ve got the cutest owner who s smiling always!!!!
2nd time here, and love it! These guys really want to ensure you enjoy their food! Will definitely be back!!
Absolutely delightful experience! The flavors here take me back to the streets of South India. The dosas are perfectly crispy, and the sambar is bursting with authentic taste. The staff is warm and welcoming, making every visit memorable. A must-visit for anyone craving genuine South Indian cuisine! Vegetarian options: Different types of dosa, Idli, Veg Tali, fried rice, noodles, Biryani, parotta, kothu parotta, Gobi 65, Gobi Manchurian..and so on
Also I would recommend Mutton Biryani and cute little vadas.
1) Restaurant is not clean. Sticky table when rested hands on it. Yukk!! 2) Oily vadas- one can squeeze vadas and get that oil for next batch of cooking. 3) Dosa- the size has reduced, sambar is watery and coconut chutney was stale. 4) Chicken - Uncooked.
A very average south indian restaurant in Scarborough, may be this place is for non veg people (which i am not) 1. Gobi manchurian was not crispy enough 2. Parotta was good, but the veg kurma wasn t good enough Food : 3/5
Mini breakfast combo is the best
Clean and tidy. Good food. Food
Sambar was the only decent thing, the masala dosa wasnt crispy extremely soft and soggy. Chicken curry actual made my stomach upset. Idly was very hard
I recently visited a South Indian restaurant that left a lasting impression. The highlight of the meal was the sambar, which was absolutely to die for rich, flavorful, and perfectly spiced.
Amazing food and service!! Love this place! Must visit for South Indians!!
Always great food from here. Good prices and friendly service.
Place lacks on the ambience but you can expect a good authentic food really amazing food Would definitely come again !!! Food
Its first time here , nice ,tasty and a cute. satisfied 100% Food
Tried Vegetarian food, It was really good and could feel the South Indian Flavor in all the items tried. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian options are good.
The special mean was yummy
I had the mutton dosa , authentic taste from Tamil Nadu. Love it
They have got the best South Indian flavours.
Amazing food. Staff is really friendly. Definitely recommend it.
Happy to find this authentic South Indian lunch home in Canada. Dont get fooled by the looks of this place as the first impression might not make it your first choice, but the food is as delicious as it gets. A must visit place for me whenever Im in the area.
The host and the service is great! The food is excellent! Value for money and delicious!
Really good masala dosa, uthappam, and chutneys. Great food at very reasonable prices. Service is friendly and efficient.
The food was awful, coconut chutney too salty, chicken not cooked properly. Had a very bad experience. Food : 1/5
Superb food at very affordable price
Amazing food , best dosa in Toronto
Salty chicken kothu roti.
Few bucks less than other place but for that very less portion and average taste .
Excellent Tamil food at nominal prices! Service is goof and the owner is friendly
Small eatery but an absolute gem. I had a very satisfying meal in a restaurant after a long time. I ordered the mutton thali with nanari juice. Mutton curry was fresh and had a home made feel. Rasam and other sides were great too. I was a satisfied customer and wanted to leave tip and the owner refused to accept it and said my compliments was what he needed. Hoping to go back again soon.
Authentic South Indian place, good service, kids friendly, affordable price
Nice South Indian restaurant with a small atmosphere. Probably 3-5 families can have food at a time. So far a good experience with the food.
Went here for an early morning dosa after G1 test. The owner even had us come in before opening since we were waiting outside. The ghee podi masala dosa was amazing. I have a lower spice tolerance do the Mysore masala dosa was more spicy for me. The wadas were very affordable and fresh. The chutney and sambhar were delicious but again, a bit spicy for people with lower tolerance like me. The couple running it were overall very nice and welcoming. Will definitely visit again when in the area.
Vegetable Biryani is good
Atchayam South Indian Restaurant is a culinary gem for those craving authentic flavors from the southern region of India. From dosas to idlis, each dish bursts with traditional spices and homemade goodness. The ambiance is warm and inviting, reflecting the hospitality of South Indian culture. While the wait times during peak hours can be lengthy, the delicious food and attentive service make it well worth it. Whether youre a seasoned fan of South Indian cuisine or a newcomer looking to explore new flavors, Atchayam never fails to deliver a memorable dining experience.
I wouldnt recommend these 1.5 rate unhygienic food. Not taste good.
Environment is good. Foods were good. Reasonable Prices. Food : 3/5
Lately, this is one good authentic restaurant that holds quality , taste and very own South indian taste. Parotta was tooo good fluffy and soft .. fresh to eat .. chicken fried rice was fantastic. Whenever there is demand for taste buds , this restaurants solves it. Please keep up this fresh and quality foods.
Great local dosa shop. We had 2 ghee masala dosa that were delicious. Their sambar is very yummy, and chutneys also good. Its not overly spicy like other places. Service was quick, and prices were very fair. We asked for it crispy, and it came very crispy! It was great. Only downside - there wasnt enough sambar provided, however we asked for more so that was easily fixed. Definitely worth the 20 min drive for us. Well be back! Vegetarian options: Many dosas that are Vegetarian.
I ordered thru skip ,,,1 idali set and one chicken 65 briyani. The price for the idali set which comes in 4 is pricey, they put it in small container , I wish they put it in bigger container. The briyani however was delicious, the portion of the food was good, flavor and spice level was good.
Hands down these guys are amaaaazing !! The food is exactly like what you get back in Chennai and their service is even better. Amazing prices as well for such authentic south indian food.
The people here are so kind, food here is authentic tamil food. My go to shop is this when nothing comes to my mind, every-time they don t disappoint me. Good spot to enjoy with friends and family.
Place is too good . Felt like I was in south india.very reasonable prices.really nice friendly staff.tasty yummy food
Good Indian Tamil food
Had the Masala Dosa and chai! the sambar was really good and the coconut chutney that came with it too!! Very affordable prices! Very Welcoming business owners and quick to serve! Looking forward to trying the idli next time! Vegetarian options: many vegetarian options for indian food!
Good south Indian restaurant Vegetarian options: Good vegetarian options Food : 5/5 |
I always have Dossa from here, its very yummy.
This is a small but busy eatery providing authentic South Indian food at very reasonable prices. I had the thali ( mutton), fish curry (King fish), Chicken chettinad and parotta. There were three tables occupied and the customers were enjoying themselves. The place is rather spartan and you are expected to help in clearing the table, but who cares, the price is atleast 20% less. Portion size is average for this type of facility, but you are quite full after their Thali. There are some spices and cooking techniques that suddenly transport you to your youth, pleasantly transporting you on this nostalgic rocket of time and place travel. Strongly recommended, the boss is delightful, optimistic and very positive man from deep South India. Try once and dont forget to ask him his recommendations! Vegetarian options: Dosa, Idli , pongal, parotta are all vegetarian and even vegan. Accompaniments are also vegetarian Veg friendly
Amazing food amazing service recommend this restaurant to everyone. Best Masala Tea!!!
I needed some murtabak and they made it happen. Delicious. Friendly service. Not much to look at from the outside, and its budget minded inside, but its worth it to try their food. I will be back. Nice people.
Amazing food in super economical prices! I ve been a regular for some time now.
One of a kind restaurant. Truly an amazing experience. The food is always delicious and worth every penny. The staff is always helpful and kind.Highly recommend this place.
Good place to have a filling meal at a great price. Superb taste. Veg or non veg , no complaints! Vegetarian options: South Indian tiffin options are ample enough for vegetarians
We are Tibetans but my mom was raised in south India for over 20 years . She knows South Indian food really well, we gave this place a try. Had fish curry thali and idli. The rasam smelled so good and tastes delicious , the fish curry was very authentic with right spice amount . We ended up ordering 3 fish curry to go. Owner is super friendly as well, we will be back with the more friends and family . Very affordable prices as well!! Highly recommend this place to anyone craving South Indian food
Service was really quick and the food was delicious. The atmosphere is okay. The prices are okay and on the cheaper side. Great place for a quick bite.
I think this is by far best South Indian I have had in Toronto.
Most authentic southindian restaurant I know of Wonderful service and food that we all crave for.
Chicken 65 Kothu Porotta was decent. However, the chicken noodles was a bad choice.
Family type restaurant and the owner was very friendly.Food pricing was very reasonable and excellent customer service.
Small yet good place for a quick south Indian food bite. They have decent variety of all the famous south cuisine. Its self service cafe. Atmosphere is very family type. But food is good. For swift hunger pangs, its a good deal.
I read great reviews, but was disappointed. Food is extremely hot. I think this place is for people who have a palate for super hot food. It is self serve and provides only disposable dishes. Price are reasonable only if we could make have eaten the food.
They one of the good porota and mutton chucka and kothu porota is awesome but biryani can use same tamil touch and the chill chicken has only color we couldnt get any taste in it otherwise its a good for hanging with your friends
The food here is a real value for money, with reasonable prices. It s not just affordable, but also tasty and authentic South Indian cuisine. Highly recommend for anyone seeking genuine flavors at a great price.
We had vada, dosa and mutton kotthu - all three were really nice. Their mango lassies are so good. We would go back again. Their customer service is so good - such kind people.
Food was yum. One star less because they charge $1 extra for chutney with vada. Atleast one bowl should be complimentary. They shoud charge if someone wants extra chutney. Anyways Masala dosa is a must eat at this place because its amazing.
I gave this place a 1 star but if there was an option for 0 I would have clicked it immediately. The service was horrible and very expensive for such tiny portions . We ordered a Thali and got a ziplock or paper and each vegetable came in very small plastic cups. I got a dosa which was cold and no samber or chutney. I would never recommend this place to anyone.
We were randomly craving for south indian food, & found this place. All stars to the place, the service was great, the customer service was fab & the food was the best part, delicious. A must try is the snacks & the chicken korma.
Good value for money
Tasty food + pocket friendly = happy customer
Mixed results - Dosas are ok, Gobi 65 is pretty bad, Coffee is good. Ordered Ghee Dosa and Onion Dosa, but the ghee dosa just felt oily with very little flavour of ghee. And it was cold when served. The onion dosa was pretty good though. The Gobi 65 was so bland, and not very crispy. The cauliflower inside was just as if it was boiled not fried. We specifically asked for a strong coffee with less sugar, and it was pretty good.
It s a cute little dine-in space tucked away in a packed complex on Lawrence. Really enjoyed the home like food, the owner was present on site and personally took care of us. Had yummy payasam after almost 2 years, overall I would say it was a good experience and I definitely going to come back.
They accommodated gluten free requests. Almost everything except chapati is gluten free here. I liked the food and also great prices and quality!
Amazing amazing affordable food. Quality and quantity both is very good
The food was not good. I think the onions used in briyani and fried rice were stale. The taste was also not good. The price was okay but the quality of the food could be better.
Quantity is comparatively low.
Food is great
We have been here multiple times and keep coming. Food is very tasty especially fish fry.
Love the food and service.
Very pocket friendly, food is customized and great taste, for sure recommended
The food is good. Not too costly. Staff is so friendly.
Tried Kara spicy masala dosa, chicken 65 kothu, Chicken chettinad- everything was tasty. Service was quick and very affordable. Will revisit for sure !
Best Tamil Nadu food in Canada
Vegetarian options: They have Ghee barata with salna. Food
Food was served cold No greetings to customers AC was not working when asked to on she said its on and she doesnt know how to increase Only 1 staff for both food preparing and order taking ....self service
Great dosa and vada. This place is self service but the food is great and well made. The sambar has the right balance of sour and spice. The dosa are crispy and the vada are as light as air.
Im from delhi and beleive me they have really authentic taste just like India i reccomend try once you will not regret
fast service and tasty food
Ive had the Kothi Roti (a few times) and the fish curry here. They are a friendly, family owned business. The restaurant is small, but clean. Prices are very reasonable too.
Have visited Atchayam multiple times. My friend always get a mix of chana wada and medu wada with chutneys and shares with us. They are always good. The masala dosa is very authentic and checks all checkboxes of a good south Indian dosa. The kothun parotta was something I tried for the first time here and reminded me of a dish my mom used to make by giving tadka to crushed chapati and bhakri. Also tried the vegetarian thali - it is what you should go for when you wish to experience a lot of new dishes that you never heard of and enjoy new tastes. Vegetarian options: Lots of good vegetarian options like most Indian restaurants
Literally everything I ate here was amazing. Give it try guys.
The taste is 10/10 Just made reminded of India. The owner is very friendly and sweet to talk Food : 5/5
Go here for authentic Tamil food, the South Indian type from interior Tamil Nadu. Stand outs - parotta, chicken korma, mutton sukka. Im glad theyre not located in Mississauga, as Ill otherwise be eating there everyday. Dont expect quick service or look forward to great ambiance - youre going here for a Ponnusami or other restaurant experience like those from Madras that feed you and feed you well. For people unawares on what to order, stick to parotta (think of a better tasting lacha paratha) and the 3 optional gravies (veg, chicken or chicken Chettinad). The taste rivals to what Ive eaten back home. A high recommendation for easily the best parotta, chicken korma reminiscent of authentic tasting foods from Madurai / Thanjavur etc.
Authentic South indian taste!! Must visit place!! Kara dosa was awesome!! Reasonable Price!!
We heard from one of our friend about this place for south Indian food. Now we are regulars. Their fish curry and rice is amazing. Price is affordable. Quantity and quality is good.
Food is good can t complain but they need to have a server attending the guests. Washroom needs care as paper dispenser not filled. We understand it s a self serving restaurant but at this prime location to improve the business they need to appoint a server at least. On the way to washroom they have stacked boxes which is blocking the way and it s against fire code. I wish them if they find a bigger location they will flourish good. Vegetarian options: Sambar was tasty Parking: Around 7 - 8 spots
Amazing food, highly recommend.
The best south Indian food I have had in GTA and TO!! We ordered ghee roast masala dosa, ghee podi dosa, egg masala dosa. Everything was finger licking Must must visit!!
The food was delicious... Authentic South Indian food.
Best south indian food in Scarborough. The food was authentic. Spicy lovers - this is your type of place.
FOOD AWESOME, SERVICE GREAT, NICE PEOPLE(POSITIVE VIBE GENUINE TYPE), FAST SERVING. SUGGESTION FOR IMPROVEMENT: DISH PLATE SHOULD BE SAME FOR SAME TABLE/FOOD. WE GOT 1 STEEL PLATE & 1 PLASTIC PLATE FOR BOTH SAME DHOSA AT THE SAME TIME. I DONT MIND BUT IT DOESNT LOOK PROFESSIONAL. YOU CAN REPLACE STEEL AND PLASTIC PLATES WITH WHITE MELAMINE PLATES.
Parking: Theres usually limited parking in the lot where the business is during certain hours, but lots of parking in the plaza across the street Recommended dishes
Just had my first visit ordered Vada, Samosa, Chicken Kothu, and Ghee Masala Dosa. The Ghee Masala Dosa, Tea, and Coffee were absolutely fantastic! Highly recommended.!
I you love authentic Tamil food this place is for you. I love their party, chicken 65 and dosa, and good to really cheap in this economy. But I would recommend to do take out only. The only issue I have is that they dont take care of the cleanliness much.
Delicious mutton kothu rotti. Good value. No corners cut.
We came at snack time ...therefore we had simple dishes....tried medu wada and posi dosa and both were great....it feels like home cooked food... and both chutney and sambar were amazing !! Masala tea was nice too... Prices are reasonable, totally worth the visit. Vegetarian options: Medu wada Podi dosa Masala chai
This food at Atchayam can make your day ! It is delicious as well as very fair price ! Dosa is the USP however I loved Mendu Vada, Idli, Dal wada and Kotthu Paratha. Definitely worth visiting!
