South Indian Cuisine
Very unsatisfied with the food and service. They charged full cost for under 18 months baby. The babies didn’t even eat. They cried the whole time. The food is not quality at all. They call it buffet but very expensive with unqualified foods. I have been in many good restaurants and gave good reviews. But this restaurant made us feel bad as please look at the bill. 4 adults and 2 babies. It’s over $100 for just plain rice and some curries
I got the Mysore Masala Onion Dosai and let me tell you it was awesome! The onion was a game changer, I never had raw red onions like that in my Dosai and it truly made the taste and experience much better. This place is vegetarian so I will be coming back again on a veggie day!
From the menu to the restaurant atmosphere. Nothing fancy and no frills. Just Very good South Indian food. Reasonable prices. Very busy. expect waiting time in weekend’s
For any South Indian craving the best breakfast, Nilgiris is the place to be! I've been visiting this spot for 2 years now and have been there around 7 times, and not once have I been disappointed with the food. My personal favorites are the idli and vada, but I can't stop at just that – I always end up ordering a dosa too! Their quality is top-notch, and the portions are totally worth it. It’s always crowded, so I’d recommend booking a table if you’re heading there on a weekend. While it’s the best for breakfast, they also offer lunch buffet options – just be prepared to carry a very full stomach back home, haha!
The food was outstanding , delicious, piping hot, filled with the authentic flavours of down south, but that’s not all when you go for an breakfast on a Saturday morning that too on the early hours with an empty stomach and you see the service was terrible, late , pathetic, unsatisfying, highly disappointed. The management has to take proper action on that and train them literally what you can see is some panicking waitresses hopping here and there…
We visited Nilgiris restaurant yesterday morning for breakfast, and it was an exceptional experience. We ordered the Poori Potato and Chana Curries, along with Medu Vada. Both dishes were absolutely delicious, with flavors that reminded us of home-cooked food. The food was healthy, light, and incredibly satisfying. The service was equally outstanding. Our server, Samul, provided top-notch, five-star service. The peaceful and enjoyable atmosphere, combined with the quality of the food and service, made our meal truly memorable. We highly recommend Nilgiris for anyone looking for a homely and delightful dining experience. I heard recently from a friend, owner of Nilgiris helped students to pay their tuition fees. I really appreciate it.
I have never seen the messier presentation of idlis than this. I’ve heard highly of this restaurant so I ordered through Uber Eats. I don’t know why restaurants don’t treat their customers equally especially those who order online. I’m sure they won’t serve these idlis to those who choose dine in options. We pay higher amount than the actual price of the item when we order online and we get this, disappointed! Although dosa and sambhar was good taste wise but I’m giving low stars because of these damaged idlis.
I haven’t been to this establishment before. I happened to have come for the 2024 Tamil Festival and decided to give it a try. As expected, the restaurant was at full capacity. Despite this, my server was polite and courteous. I ordered their Mysore Onion Masala Dosa. When my meal arrived nearly half an hour later, I expected the amount of Sambhar to be a little more and the tiny portions of chutneys were also too less for the dosa. The meal itself was tasty and filling but it was strange to find raw, freshly cut onion cubes inside the dosa with the potatoes. After I managed to finish my meal with their limited sambhar, and I was paying for my meal, I wanted to know how much they would have charged for an extra bowl of sambhar. It was only then that I discovered that they provide free refills of the sambhar. My server apologised for not informing me about this in advance – it certainly would have helped to make my meal more enjoyable. There is very little distinction about where the men’s and women’s washrooms are located. The washrooms themselves are clean and well maintained, but because they are located in close vicinity to the handwashing sinks, it can get confusing to know if you’re entering the men’s or the women’s restrooms. I will be back in the future to try out their other dishes.
Very good place for south Indian food
Best breakfast I ever had in Canada!! Dosa and idli
Food quality has gone down tremendously at Nilgris.
Good food
I have been here plenty of times, amazing freshly made Serves Mouth watering south Indian dishes Food : 5/5
Because they gave us not fresh food like the parata was badly cooked and in the afternoon also vada was made 2 hours a go when I came at 5:30 and the vada was dry
Food is great. I will highly recommend your take out order double checked before leaving the place as often they either miss something or have a different item.
This restaurant is always the best place to enjoy authentic South Indian cuisine on a budget. The staff is usually very friendly and attentive when dining in. However, the service can sometimes be a bit slow, so be prepared for a longer wait for your food. Additionally, their Medu Vada tends to sell out quickly, so it s best to order it early. On Mondays, the restaurant takes its last dine-in order at 7:30 PM. For the rest of the week, the last order is at 9:00 PM, with the restaurant closing 30 minutes later. Vegetarian options: Pure vegetarian options only. Which is what i love about this place. Parking: Right outside the restaurant there is some parking but generally its occupied by visitors. But can park in same plaza there is lot of parking.
I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. The customer service was absolutely unacceptable staff were rude and spoke to us in an unprofessional manner, which ruined the dining atmosphere. On top of that, the wait time to get buffet items was shockingly long, making the whole experience incredibly frustrating. It felt like they had no regard for their customers time or comfort. I cannot recommend this place to anyone and hope management takes immediate steps to address these issues. Until then, avoid this restaurant if you value good service. Manager with blue hat spoke something that we heard like it is taking too much time for having buffet.Good food with bad customer experience will lead to restaurant reputation. We are a regular customers in this restaurant always satisfied with food quality but this time managers attitude was too disgusting.
I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant, despite the food being of good quality. We came here to enjoy a buffet that we paid for, not to receive food as an offering. However, we overheard the manager murmuring disrespectful words right in front of us, which made us feel extremely uncomfortable and unwelcome. On top of that, the wait time for the buffet items was excessively long, reflecting poor management and inefficiency. The behavior we experienced was truly unacceptable and left a bad impression overall.
Good dosa and Manchurian gobi
My friend puked right after getting out of the restaurant.
We had buffet as brunch , food is excellent
Don t know why but every time I order at Nilgiri they always mess my order. I ordered 32 oz sambar but they gave me chutney in 32 oz. I mean how hard it is to understand difference between chutney and sambar ? I ordered 25 idli box with extra sambar and I opened packet with extra chutney. Next time I am definitely checking every box I pick from them.
I ordered masala dosa and 2 plain poori my wife ate and my 6 month baby got breast milk both of them got diarrhea this is the 3td time your oil very bad I ll call health department tomorrow And I never come back your food Change your bad oil
Tried their mysore masala dosa, Mendu vada and payasam. Great in taste, Sambhar and chuntnies were delicious. And they do not charge for extra. I have tried better payasam. And the mysore masala dosa was a bit spicy. But great in taste.
Awesome place to get simple masala dosa.
Last time we decided that we will not visit again however today we gave it another try. Food was not good. Restaurant was dirty. Washroom was not worth visiting. This restaurant is pretty dirty, not sure how does it pass through the health inspectors. Food
Enjoyed
I don t want to write the bad review because i am their regular Customer and i really love their dosa but they should clean their kitchen i have ordered masala dosa today and i find small insect in my dosa. I request you guys please clean your kitchen &maintain hygiene because this will cause some serious health conditions i have also took some pictures .
Ordered a Tea its machine made. Rip off. Do not order. Amazing house-made cofee. Friendly servers. Good dosa and other food.
Have done it all. Dine in, take out and delivery. During my peak work days, I used to order 25 idlis at once and cant think of better restaurant. I love Nilgiris Idli - sambar and dosa. Been here like 10s of times and never disappointed me at all. Reasonably priced, delicious and friendly staff. Love this place :) Parking: Plenty of parking available :)
Very fast running south indian cuisine and Buffett lunch restaurant. Waiting for table can be seen. Vada and Idli and coffee was best ever we had in Toranto so far. Must visit for south indian delicacy. Vegetarian options: Pure Vegetarian hotel
Hands down the best Southindian restaurant here! Their dosas and vadas are delicious and special mention to the authentic sambar and chutneys. The coffee is super good too!
I bought a Thayir Vadai and it was so sweet. The put too much sugar in it. I went back to restaurant for refund and they said you ate a bit so we wouldn t refund. How would you taste a food without eating it a piece . Service attendant name Ajanthan was so rude and bossy. This place is run by unprofessional staff and student are getting paid by cash. Update Today Oct 28, I ordered 25 idly and sambar & chutney. They didn t put chutney instead sambar on both container. See the attached picture and receipt. I live far away and I can t go back to exchange. Always check your food before you leave from Nilgiris restaurant. Very poor management Very poor management
Ordered a pick up for 50 idlis on Friday. Everyone in the family suffering from food poisoning and is throwing up. A batch of batter would be stale as some idlis were smelling a little foul when we smelled later but kids and young adults had eaten by then. Have never faced this for so many times we have picked up or eaten at your restaurant. Please take care to see that the food served is hygienic.
Vegetarian options: Mostly Vegetarian Food
The restaurant has a good Indian atmosphere, but the food and customer service is pretty bad. Worst customer service ever.
Very good
Poor Customer service even you do order on phone still have to wait for long.
Food is good, but they don t accept Amex.
The interior is okay but the taste of the food is amazing!! I always visit this place for south indian food!
If you re south Indian cuisine enthusiast then this restaurant is definitely for you. One of the best restaurant visited recently so far.
Best for idly
Good spot to try the vegetarian menus. It may take sometime for the team to get your order but the taste of food doesn t make it a concern.
One of the best place for authentic south Indian experience, would suggest to visit during non-busy hours for amazing experience.
It s a great place. We ordered Ghee roast dosa and parotta with kurma. It was great. Taste was really good, felt like we had dinner in one of top veg restaurants in Tamil Nadu. It s too loud so some people won t like the ambience but we are okay with it. I would definitely recommend this place. Must try !!
The food is fresh, service is good..buffet quality is not the same as it used to be. But still one of the best places for South Indian food in Scarborough Food
Probably the only place that serves South Indian BREAKFAST in the GTA. And the taste is great, especially the Pongal, paper roast dosa and coffee. Price point is not so high either. There is also plenty of parking in the open parking lot.
Food is nice Parking: --ii Food : 5/5 |
Good south Indian vegetarian restaurant
best restaurant in GTA for south indian staff was really helpful Food : 5/5 |
Disappointing and Disastrous Experience A Decline in Quality I ve been a loyal customer of this restaurant since 2017, but my recent visit left me incredibly disappointed. Over the years, I ve seen a significant decline in the quality of food and service. The dosa I ordered was so sour, it was practically inedible. The coconut chutney, which used to be one of my favorites, tasted off and had a strange smell, almost like it had started to spoil. The entire meal felt far from the fresh and flavorful experience I once knew. It s disheartening to see a place I once enjoyed deteriorate like this. Based on my recent experience, I will never return, and I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Do not order utappam! It s the worst one I ever had. The rest of the food I have tried is good (chilli porotta, dosa, idli, veg biriyani, poori masala).
Good South Indian Food
Food was too good. Service and atmosphere will remain the same because it s not a high end restaurant. But it can beat any high end restaurant in taste.
My family and I often come here because the food taste pretty good, and it s close to home however, over the years we ve found that the service has gotten significantly worse. We had placed an order, and 45 minutes later someone checked in after we had asked them five times to follow up, we realize that two of our dishes were never punched into the system, the other two members in my family already finished their food. To experience the food, I would recommend takeout, but don t expect anything from the service. The staff barely greets you, they think they can remember the orders so they don t write it down, but immediately forget, they get things wrong and bring out the wrong food.
We had very bad experiences in Sunday morning . No one attend the table , has go to manager for a glass of water and Napkin. Waited 30 minitus for some one to take order.
Really good south Indian food! Have been going here for years.
Authentic South Indian .. Quick Service.. delicious food..
Best food, try Cheese vegetables crispy dosa, staff was helpful ane Bansi help me to find out best appetizer for me thanks
One of the best restaurants in GTA for South Indian food. Must try..!!
This place has been my fav for food and service and today was the worst experience with the customer service. 2 ladies (one taking order and one serving) were super rude and put up a baseless argument for serving food after hours. 3 families who came after us got the food, before we got ours (just the dosa). This was certainly my last time here but the bitter taste it left was my parents in law (visitors) had to experience this while we boost about some of our fav food spots. I truly hope these women are trained for their job else it hurts to see they are not fit for the simple job. It doesn t take much to simply accept the fault and be apologetic.
The service is so good. Thank you Saujanya, Shubhendu for quick service and serving food.
Excellent quality of South Indian food. Some fusion delicacies like Chilli Idly and Gobi Manchurian are lip-smacking. Parking is difficult since its in a commercial complex adjacent to 2 temples. Need booking of tables if you are dining in. Always crowded. Vegetarian options: This is strictly a south Indian vegetarian restaurant Parking: Nearly 50 parking spots are available but they are shared with other commercial units in this complex
Nice restaurant. Nilgiri Restaurant offers an amazing dining experience with their authentic South Indian dishes. The Masala Dosa is a must-try crispy, flavorful, and perfectly spiced! Great service and a cozy atmosphere. Highly recommend!
I love this more than any of the Sarvana bhavans in Toronto area. It s really good for vegetarian South Indian food
We have been going to Nilgiris both for dine in and pick up for about 7-8 years We love it Food is simply delicious and reasonably priced. I would recommend this place for sure. Vegetarian options: You must try their Upma and filter coffee
The worst experience ever. Had to squeeze through to reach to the corner table and none of the waiters bothered to come and take the order. We ended up sitting there for 20 min & people that came after us even finished eating. The worst experience ever & never coming back here!
Amazing food, excellent service Vegetarian options: Only veg Parking: Big parking lot.
Worst service.
Food was really good. Waited for 2Dosa for 30mintues and the waiter girl was really horrible. My daughter asked for water she never brought it. We asked for vada and Shambar waiter said it s finished at 11am but next table she served vada and shambar who came after us. Waiter did not even apologize for not bringing the water which we asked twice. Senior person who work there kind heart he brought us water finally.
Amazing dosa and medu vada. Chutneys are perfect. Would recommend it.
It is authentic South Indian food I ordered through DoorDash first time but the food was very delicious specially in love with chilly idli will order soon
Visit today food and service excellence specially good experience with Samuel and all staff must visit
It has delicious dosa, just the place itself isn t good to sit
Quick service good food
Another great place for dosas and south indian dishes. We love the idli sambar takeout. Would be nice to have kids meal or kids size Plain crispy dosas, ice cream for the kids. Vegetarian options: This is a vegetarian restaurant so lot of options. Parking: Parking by the restaurant can be cumbersome and busy. But if you look around it is available.
The food was great, but not happy with the one thing. Wanted a tomato onion chilli utappam so ordered it. Menu shows $10 for the onion chilli utappam but i got charged $11.49 plus $1 extra for tomato. Didnt make any sense to me. When asked why i was charged this way i was told that thats how the system works. So i basically got charged $2.5 extra just coz i wanted tomatoes in my utappam. The question is not about money, its about business ethics. The menu says one thing whereas the system has its own mind. The food was good and would have happily paid the $12.49 , but the misleading menu card spoiled my experience.
This afternoon I was getting the quote for the event order before completing the conversation she hang up the call customer service is not good.
This place has great food, but the ambiance and overall setup could use a major refresh. The interior feels worn-out and outdated, and the utensils have seen better days. It s clear that the food keeps this place running, but an update to the decor and dining experience would make a huge difference. I hope the management takes steps to improve the space, making it as appealing as the food they serve.
They said it s busy so we cannot have specific dosa .As if they are giving it for free .. Please don t sit on the last table next to washroom . It is really really stinky . Food
We went for the 1st time for a takeout. Had to wait 35 mins for the pickup, especially since we ordered Oothappam. Masal tea was good. Food was fresh and good. Noticed long wait for dine-in. Food
Food tasted awesome. I felt like the service is a bit slow. It would be great if the buffet starts from early morning, if couldnt in full phase, atleast with some particular items.
Food was the best. Long wait time to get a seat during weekends and also longer wait to get the food. But the food is worth the wait. Best South Indian vegetarian restaurant in Ontario. Their medhu vada is so fresh and crispy.
Bad service though food is good. They focus on family rather than individual. If you are one person then pls do not go to this restaurant. Bad servers.
Best Mysore masala dosa you can have from GTA. Medhu vada also is really good. Vegetarian options: Lot of varieties. Food : 5/5 |
Amazing food! Great service by Shivani. Very quick with our orders and attended us with smile
Amazing food and service but had to wait more than 30 mins and the place was a bit cramped
Best food compared to other South indian restaurants
I was scared as It was my first time trying but no more fear now , LOVED everything I order no complaints , so tasty & healthy . Thank you guys :)
I am a regular customer of this restaurant almost on alternatives days I used to come over there and buy food but today I went there it took so long to take the orders first of all and then food takes so long to come. I don t know why staff is so rude. Earlier when I came there is old staff who always respond with a smile. But today full new staff they hired and they don t know how to take care of the customers. Today was a last time I went there from now on I will not go there.
I am a frequent visitor to this location. Food is really good and I should say the customer service was also okay. Today the service was poor. This not because of the staffs over there were slow, but because it was understaffed. We could really see staffs were struggling to take orders, clean table and cash out at the same time. This is an oversight from the management.
Horrible service and horrible food. I ordered ghee roast masala dosa and paid for that and i got just a dosa with raw onions inside. Total waste of money with a ridiculous service.
Vegetarian options: Aptly stocked with varied options.... Food
If you are craving for South Indian vegan meals, you got Nilgiris. We mostly do take outs here as the food is good but there is no ambience to dine per se but the heart wants what it wants so who cares about the ambience sometimes. It s ok to go on weekday nights as there is not much of a crowd. If you hate crowds forget it in the weekends or simply stick to takeouts. They are very accommodating of vegans like you can even have chole battura without the butter. We wanted onion bajjis once, the one who served us said they can make plantain or chilli bajjis but not onion. We asked why, she said they just won t make onion bajjis in the evenings. That still didn t answer my question why? I guess it is what it is. lol. Wish they made masala Vadas regularly. It s very hard to find them here. Their ulundhu/ medhu vadas are top notch though. I ve had their dosas and meals and coconut rice and the like and all the food is delicious. Vegetarian options: Fully vegetarian restaurant with vegan options but you have to communicate it
The food is good but be prepared to wait 30 minutes atleast for your order and the bill. We ordered 1 dosa, 1 plate idli and 2 filter coffee and we got just 1 dosa. The idli n coffee arrived after 25 mins and my husband was done eating his dosa by then. Then we asked for the bill which they took 25 mins to come!!!! They really need to up their service!!! Definitely not going there ever again.
Vegetarian options: It s a Pure Vegetarian restaurant, predominantly South Indian Tamilian cuisine. Food
Vegetarian options: It is a vegetarian restaurant Food
The best dosa in GTA
Taking an eternity to serve idli. 40min in and still waiting.
Srikant does not know what he is doing. I love the place the servers are great. but The manager Srikant just runs around lost...
Tried various south indian dishes, Good south Indian restaurant in Scarborough. Its in a complex which has various shops like hindu pooja store, small vegetable shop etc
Ive been a loyal customer of Nilgiris Scarborough - for takeout, dine-in and online delivery. The food is delicious and homely. However, post-COVID, I see a marked decline in quantity served vs price charged. This is true of whether youre eating in or ordering. The sambhar is served in a tiny katori - think portion size for a child. Same for chutneys. They dont have much of an ambience and its super chaotic on most weekends. On a recent visit - the restaurant was packed (which does reinforce the fact that the food is yummy) with barely any room to walk. I could count 3 servers who barely could keep up with the crowd. While placing the lunch order, I was told - I could order filter coffee towards the end of my meal. At noon on a Saturday - when I did that, the server refused us for coffee. Probably because there was a huge lineup of people waiting for a table. Id avoid weekends next time around or go really early like 10am!
nice food! good service, decent atmosphere
Super delicious food
The food is amazing here.
Tasty food but takes too long in line and staff is just curt...
Vegetarian options: South Indian cuisine at its finest. They do amazing things with vegetables like chickpeas, lentils, carrots potatoes, onions, garlic, coriander, parsley, tumeric, ginger etc Vegetarians will love this place. Their mild and spicy chutney is freshly made. Food
Most authentic, grand ma made type south Indian food restaurant anywhere north of 401 in GTA. Service can be better but they do keep things despite the perpetual rush. Sitting area is relatively small and can use some refurbishment as it hasn t changed in nearly 3 decades. That said, if you crave finger licking sambhar this is the place to go to!
I had a great time trying out some authentic South Indian dishes after ages! The servers were super friendly too. Overall, I had a really satisfying experience.
Food was so delicious
Was good earlier with very affordable rates but recently with the price increase and even meagre quantities its not worth it. There are other places that stand out with price, quantity and quality.
Good food and people!
This local spot is a family favourite whenever we re in the mood for dosa. I personally love the Ghee Roast Masala Dosa, but they are all equally great in freshness, taste, and value. An underrated dish I highly recommend is their Gobi Manchurian. I don t say this lightly when I say it might be the best Gobi Manchurian I ve ever had! As always, we will definitely be back.
One of the best South indian food restaurants in Toronto. Vegetarian options: Its a vegetarian restaurant Food : 4/5 |
Good subtle south Indian test. One of good south Indian food experiences in Toronto. Food
Best place to grab Idlis. The rava kichadi was amazing as well.
Very rude owner and staff. Not interested in informing customers about timings or prices of items. Uncivilized and disinterested in customers. Will not grow far with this small mindset.
Reasonable price for very tasty food
Found hair. Assuming that it was not the hair from head. Overly idiotic manager and staff. not apologetic even after the incident. During the conversation with the manger, one of the idiot spilled food while taking the dish.
One of the best dosas in Scarborough. Even the Pongal was delicious.
We ordered poori and channamasala it was really good and tasty
It was a pickup order, placed on phone and the one taking the order was rude and mean for no reason. Shouting while taking the order, had to repeat the same thing thrice. It was the manager most likely. He definitely needs to humble down.
Last Thursday my friend and I went to eat lunch there, she only ordered a vegetarian dish. Very shortly we had to call the ambulance after she consumed the food. Doctors confirmed that it was food poisoning. Please reach out as we now have to cover the ambulance cost.
Do not eat here!!! I had extremely bad food poisoning after eating the rava dosa! I got light-headed and started shaking on my walk home. I threw up outside and passed out!!! Luckily someone working at a store nearby saw me on the ground and called an ambulance. I was admitted at Centenary hospital for THREE DAYS!!!!! I still dont feel like my body has returned to normal and its been 1 WEEK. The meal was $15 The ambulance was $45 I am still suffering Save yourself a visit at the hospital and eat at home!!!!
Yesterday, I visited The Nilgiris for breakfast and, unfortunately, it was a complete letdown. Having dined here a couple of times before, I was hoping for a decent meal, but yesterdays experience was disastrous. We tried a few dishes: Idli Sambar: Bland and uninspiring. Rava Onion Masala Dosa: An absolute disaster. It was poorly cooked and lacked flavor. Medu Vada: Just average, nothing special. Chutneys: They tasted as if they were simply mixed with water, lacking the rich and authentic flavors one expects. Overall, the food quality was extremely disappointing. This visit has definitely made me rethink returning to The Nilgiris. Not worth it!
Despite the crowds, the wait staff are so friendly and patient and the food tastes amazing. Remember to take cash to tip the waiters since this could not be added to the bill.
Good for A-la-Carte, but waste of money for buffet Given the price you pay for buffet, you get much better at Saravana bhavan
Starting with their service, its horrible. Very bad service, I went few weeks back and stood on line, they didnt mind people who is in line & took the person behind me. I ordered Methu vada, but they gave the last batch to the person came after me. Today also, I ordered methu vada, they try to give it to the dine in, I had to tell them that I ordered first otherwise they dont care & have to wait or cancel order. The restaurant need more training on customer service. Management need to take this in serious.
Good place for veg and have a quick dining
Did not accept the order for 45min and cancelled the order at last through Door dash. Will neither never visit the restaurant nor order from it again. Good bye . People who order from this restaurant please be aware and do not waste your time by ordering from this place .
Good food, sticks to genuine recipes
Unfortunately the chilli idly ordered was not good at all. Basically the idly was fried in deep oil, tossed with tomato + chilli sauce. Gave feedback and the service was poor as well. I have visited this place few times earlier it used to be good, but the quality of food and service gone down. Not recommended anymore.
Tamarind rice was too tangy but idly sambar is the best
The ambiance is fantastic. The food taste is invaluable. The staff are friendly.
The service here is so horrible, waiting for 15 min to pick up just a dosa batter, which is setting in a fridge. The guy who was doing the cash should have picked it up and let me go, but I have to wait 15 min then ask for dosa batter, respect people time. If you re busy, hire people to provide a good service.
Coriander Masala Dosa always delivers!
Delicious food
