Delicious pho in Scarborough! The price is super value especially considering the taste of the food. Their Banh Cuon is super authentic and not all viet restos will make it . The BBH also very rich and deep in flavour!

I came here for the Bún Riêu, the crab vermicelli. It was delicious. The pork, egg, and crab combination was the perfect texture. The broth was very flavourful. We also had the spicy squid. 7/10, but maybe this is the best vietnamese squid.

I came here on a blogger’s recommendation, and I’m so glad I did!!! This place completely blew me away! The Bun Rieu was a revelation. Packed with flavor, generous amounts of crab paste, and yes, a whole 🦀 ! The broth was sooo rich and satisfying, hands down the best Bun Rieu I’ve ever had. Also, the portion size was more than generous, especially for the price ($17 for a large size). What really sets this spot apart is the atmosphere, none of that generic, commercialized feel you get from some other Vietnamese restaurants in the GTA. It’s cozy, authentic, and feels like a true hidden gem. I’ll definitely be back to explore the rest of the menu!😋

Have been my usual dining place for years. For the pho, they give good amount of ingredients. The grilled items might take sometime but they are delicious and flavorful. Their fresh spring rolls are packed and fresh. You should try the blue crab soup noodle too.

I come here to eat in the evenings every few weeks. Food/taste is consistent and the service is good. The menu has a large selection to choose from has seating for about 40 people. We ordered tonight Tomato Crab soup with vermicelli and Thai style rare beef brisket in Tom Yum soup with Pho. My wife loves the crab soup as it has a rich crab taste and tomato was not over powering. The t yum was not too spicy and the soup was sooo tasty I ate the whole bowl and drank all of the soup. I usually have the special beef pho (rare beef, beef balls, tendon, brisket, tripe) and it's always great eat and my goto bowl of pho when I come here and this time I wanted to try something different and I wasn't disappointed. I'll be back to eat here again in a few weeks.

3 stars means ok and normal. Spring rolls are crispy, and the stuffing is authentic Vietnam style. Bun bo hue is just 3 stars. While they give a plentiful amount of beef brisket, they are not flavorful. The soup also lacks lemongrass taste as well. There is no blood pudding. The bean sprouts and herbs are not fresh, and there is a lack of variety. All in all, it is an ok meal.

As the only non-Vietnamese in the restaurant we felt it was very authentic!! I loved that they serve tea to start the meal 🙂‍↕️ The Bun Rieu was full of flavour and the large portion was enough for 2 people. Side dishes of spring rolls were sooo good and fried tofu with silky tofu was ok - tbh I just don’t like soft tofu. Staff were super helpful

November 2024 update: still one of my favourite neighbourhood Vietnamese restaurants in Scarborough. Great to see a true family business persevere. No gimmicks, good flavours, fresh ingredients and good prices. ~~~ Still one of the best spots for authentic Viet flavours. Only thing was on our most recent trip, the broth could be a bit hotter. Must get here: Banh dap and bun rieu. Their banh dap is unique and I dont know of any other place that makes it. Theyre a bit understaffed right now but theyre currently hiring and are still fairly attentive.

Yet, pho wasn t what I was craving when visiting Bong Lau Vietnamese Restaurant. Instead, it was their famous bún riêu ($13.95) that drew me in. Traditionally, it s a fragrant seafood, pork, and tomato soup. Bong Lau s recipe skips the meat and uses tomato, crab, and egg drops (?), which when soaked in broth provides a crumbly texture that almost seems like it could be minced meat. For a dish that looks so vibrant, the taste was surprisingly timid. There wasn t that salty umami hit of shrimp paste that I expected. In fact, it wasn t very salty at all. The most prominent flavours were the tomato, basil, and shallots topping the dish. Perhaps if the bún riêu was hotter, it d be more enjoyable. As it stood, the lukewarm texture combined with lacklustre soup and the frozen tasting blue crab really didn t seem rave worthy. In retrospect, selection of light bites would be more impressive. The bahn dap ($11.95), a steamed rice roll stuffed with a choice of lemongrass pork, beef, chicken, or Vietnamese meat balls, makes for a refreshing but hearty meal. Unlike a salad roll, which uses a rehydrated rice paper wrapper, the steamed roll was thicker and softer, while still having an elasticity that allowed it to be held and dipped. We opted for the recommended lemongrass pork, which was well seasoned and thinly sliced so the meat layer adds a saltiness throughout the roll. Incorporating tender lettuce leaves, hits of herbs, and bits of crunchy peanuts, the bahn dap had a host of textures and flavours that kept me satisfied.

The pho broth was flavorful and yummy, and their portion sizes are generous given the pricing, which is really reasonable (and less expensive compared to the newer Vietnamese restaurants that have more recently opened). Food came out relatively quickly. The restaurant itself is small, so I can see there being a wait during busy times, but it seems like tables turn over fairly quickly. Parking is ample but can get busy with various other eateries and businesses in the plaza.

When Im in places like this, I remember that manners arent necessary. A table for four was requested, and I was told it would be a 10-minute wait. The female waitress brought me a chair in the waiting area, and I assumed she would come get me when the table was ready (theres a clear view between me and the counter). A few minutes later, a gentleman and his family arrive and are seated promptly... The rest of my family looks at me as if I hadnt asked for a table in the first place. Lets assume its a prior reservation, and I give them the benefit of the doubt. The wait for a table now has become 20 minutes, and another family walks in through the door. They are seated immediately. It is now necessary for me to watch over the tables, and immediately sit myself when a table opens. I wouldnt have asked for a table if I knew it would be self-service. (Its not self-service) Im very patient, and I understand theyre busy, but at least let me know its first come, first served, so that we can find our own table and get seated ourselves, and so I dont embarrass myself. Perhaps it is too much to ask, but perhaps an automated ticketing system could be implemented like all the other restaurants. Luckily, the food is good, though the satay beef is very inconsistent (sometimes it tastes like curry, sometimes too sweet, sometimes it tastes too spicy). Be prepared to act a bit ghetto if you wish to get a table, hell even hawk behind a table until they finish and get seated yourself immediately.

The pho is flavorful and I don t feel thirsty after having it. Usually we order takeout and the order is usually ready in 20min. Nice thing is that they also accept credit card. It s just next to Chris Jerk and another Taiwanese restaurant so it s a great location in case you and your friends wanna order something else from the same plaza. Bún riêu (crab noodle) is very good, but probably only item thats good on the menu along with banh dap bo, which is not available at most viet places... Bo la lop way too salty not edible. Spring roll was to the salty side too. Tasteless pho broth like little salt with hot water, but decent amount of toppings Banh xeo is not available all the time. New server doesnt know the menu at all and wouldnt care, good luck. Seating: Very small and close seating. Was there for lunch today, we were seated at a tight table of two, and next table for 4 was only occupied by one person who just finished ordering. Ok... Ordering: New server seems clueless when having to take order. Apparently they fired all the previous servers, which were very helpful and great when we were there last time. She pulled out her pen and note pad but not too sure what to write. I think she just hope everybody orders their #100 pho, which we tried before but didnt enjoy their tasteless broth. This time we ordered bun with bo la lop. She kept saying beef, we kept telling her its beef rolled in herbs . So we pointed it out to her on the menu so she can write it down correctly. Yet when it comes, its beef, not the one rolled on herbs. She wanted to force us to take it but we refused. My mom is senior and barely dine out nowadays, we wanted to get her what she wanted. She kept saying we wanted beef balls then, we kept telling her its beef roll in herb. Then she came with the menu to verify again, and we pointed it on the menu to her again. After a while, we were sent a totally different dish, banh dap. Omg. Worst server ever tbh, simply doesnt care. Then looks like the owner came and we told him what we ordered, simple and quick. And he told the server its a menu item. Food: So finally the right food came. But the bo la lop was so salty thats not edible. Theres no way anyone would make the food so salty. I believe kitchen was upset with us and did that on purpose because their server took the order wrong, twice. We didnt order wrong, its your server that did not know the menu and kept telling kitchen the wrong order, not us. Not fixing the issue, but make it worst. So not only a bad server but ridiculous kitchen with sick mind set, feeding a senior with exceeding amount of sodium. And of course they didnt come check if the food was ok at all, as they all know the beef roll came inedible. Thats disgusting mind set throughout.

Bong Lua is a Vietnamese restaurant that left a lasting impression on me. During my visit, I had the pleasure of indulging in their Pho soup and garlic chicken wings, while my companion enjoyed their seafood fried rice. We also paired our meals with refreshing glasses of coke. Heres why Bong Lua made our dining experience truly delightful. The star of my meal was the Pho soup. The rich and aromatic broth was filled with tender slices of beef, complemented by a medley of fresh herbs and spices. Each spoonful was a burst of comforting flavors, making it a perfect choice for a satisfying meal. The garlic chicken wings were another highlight of our dining experience. The wings had a crispy exterior, giving way to juicy and flavorful chicken meat. The garlic seasoning added a delightful kick, creating a harmonious balance of savory goodness. These wings were a definite hit. My companion opted for the seafood fried rice, which turned out to be a great choice. The dish was packed with plump shrimp and succulent squid, mingling perfectly with the well-cooked rice. The flavors of the seafood shone through, making each bite a delightful journey of tastes. To accompany our meal, we enjoyed glasses of coke, which provided a refreshing and fizzy contrast to the bold flavors of the dishes. The carbonation and sweetness of the coke enhanced the overall dining experience. Throughout our visit, the service at Bong Lua was attentive and friendly. The staff made sure we felt welcome and attended to our needs promptly, adding to the positive experience. In conclusion, Bong Lua is a Vietnamese restaurant that knows how to satisfy the taste buds. From the flavorful Pho soup to the delectable garlic chicken wings, each dish showcased the restaurants dedication to quality and authenticity. The seafood fried rice was also a winner. Paired with glasses of coke, our dining experience was truly memorable. I highly recommend Bong Lua for anyone seeking a delightful Vietnamese culinary adventure.

As well as the special beef pho and Bun Rieu (Tomato crab soup noodles) the soup was nice and hot, and very soothing. We will miss their pho and hope to visit again when we are in Toronto next time.

Tomato Crab Meal. I think its 3.5 points. Its not as delicious as advertised, mainly because the soup base is super salty and I drank half a bottle of water. And the powder is fine powder. But I still ate quite a lot of crab powder and there was still some left at the end. Personally, I prefer to eat coarse noodles. If you live nearby and haven t tried it before, you can try it on the way. It would be a big mistake if I drove back and forth for an hour just to come here to eat.

I was drawn by other peoples reviews and decided to personally try this restaurant. This is a small restaurant with slightly below average cleanliness. Dont expect good physical distancing in here because space is quite tight. Portions are quite reasonable and not too salty, and they have authentic taste. Service is just average and resembles typical family business. Pho is quite good here and not too overloaded with msg. Crab noodle is somewhat subpar than what I tasted when I traveled to Ho Chi Minh years ago, and it has an unusual bright reddish colour, which I am sure it is due to unnecessary food colouring. Satay dishes also thick and tasty. Herbs and condiments to supplement typical good authentic Vietnamese dishes are insufficient or somewhat lacking. Overall, this is a reasonable restaurant to get familys stomach filled with decent value for money, but not good enough to wow friends.

Yummy noodles and curry lamb. We will definitely visit again for food. The waiting time however was longer than what we were told when we ordered at 11:30 on Sunday morning. The person who packed food dropped the sauce on the floor just put it back to the plastic bag, and I personally don t think this should be a good practice even it s not pandemic.

Decent food and services. They have one of the better bún riêu (rice noodle with crab) in Ontario. The Vietnamese coffee was very decent too! I would not order the My Tho rice noodle as it is not very authentic and the sauce was just so so. Price is reasonable for the portion.

Excellent Vietnamese food, the Bun Bo Hue (#114) is amazing, rich spicy broth with lemon grass, served with pork, Vietnamese sausage, alsoalso the Muc Chien Cay (#16), deep fried spicy calamari, was good, I liked that it was served with salad/carrots/onions to give a bit of freshness. Will definitely go back, great atmosphere.

Went by Bong Lua for lunch today and decided to try their pho. Remember, youre not there for the decor, youre there for the food. I had the satay beef and I enjoyed every bit. Spice was nice, and the peanuts and pineapple were additions that I not had before but were nice touches. Not a far drive for some very good pho. Recommend if youre in the Birchmount and Huntingwood area.

Great authentic Vietnamese restaurant. The crab vermicelli in tomato soup base is full of favor. You can find chunks of real crab in it. We also had the vermicelli with spring roll and lemongrass beef. The portion is huge with lots of meat. The ice coffee they served is also one of the best I ever had. Will definitely need to come back to try other dishes.

Food is delicious but not all menu items are available; we were there on Monday lunch and they ran out of crab and chicken. There was crab in their famous crab soup but no crab was available for their other crab dishes. They were busy for a Monday lunch and the one server had trouble juggling seating, taking orders, serving, clearing tables and take-out.

Coffee iced with milk was just right, tasty with chocolate taste profile. No MSG, I was not thirsty after my meal. Long line up as always. Kudos to the owners operator.

My friend brought me here for the first time cause we were craving bun rieu and I was literally on the hunt for a Good Vietnamese Restaurant to go too. We ended up ordering 2 large bowls of Bun rieu and 1 Banh cuon Cha Lua to try. Everything was phenomenal, the Bun rieu I can talk about all day, the crab meat, the noodles, the broth, right down to the smell. Its like eating with your eyes. I dont know what it was but I couldnt get over how nice the presentation was. The Portion size was perfect. The Banh cuon Cha Lua was amazing, the cook recommended we eat it with more fish sauce, we didnt hesitate and let me tell you something, if the head cook recommends something, go for it. You will not regret it. By far the best bun rieu ive had in a long time and Im definitely coming back to try everything else

This restaurant was recommended by my friends and I was told to try out their crab vermicelli as it s one of the best in town. We visited the restaurant on Saturday shortly after 11am, it s a little restaurant with about 10 tables, so go early if you don t want to wait in line. We ordered 2 regular pho and a crab vermicelli. The regular pho is slightly disappointed as the soup base is on the salty side and the pho texture is a little hard, it s 3 stars only. Crab vermicelli on the other hand is tasty, it came with a crab leg with lots of meat in a tomato soup base, 5 stars!

First time trying this restaurant. Heard good things about the bun rieu so we went to give it a try. It s a small restaurant with around 26 seats. The line up system is pretty much first come first serve. Floor, seats are somewhat dirty but I guess that s normal for restaurants in Scarborough. The bun rieu is really good. You can choose small ($12.95) or large ($14.95). I picked small and it s the perfect portion for me. I like the thin noodles in the bun rieu but the dry Vietnamese noodles in the tomato brisket is very broken, hard, and not tasty at all. The grill beef ribs are over marinated and thinly sliced. There s no texture at all and no beef taste. Iced coffee is not bad but not the best. Overall, I ll come back for the bun rieu.

Heard some friends talk about this restaurant and the amazing Pho and Tomato Crab soup with Vermicelli and had to try it. Came here today with a co-worker for lunch and it was quite busy for 12:30pm on a Thursday afternoon. Ordered the Tomato Crab soup with Vermicelli and my co worker ordered the Satay Beef Pho. We also split a spring rolls. Spring Rolls came very quickly and it was piping hot and crispy. Amazing flavour and very fresh. My Tomato Crab soup with Vermicelli arrived and it was very very piping hot and so much crab meat all throughout. The soup broth was very unique and the aroma and flavouring from it was amazing. My co-worker was equally impressed with his Satay Beef Pho that he loved it and the authenticity of this Vietnamese restaurant. We will be returning.

First time there and was greeted well. Asked for the sate beef noodle soup. They brought my friends out first and then mine 2 minutes later. Only for it to be what I did not order. It was a curry broth with beef, peanuts, lemon grass, and potatoes. I was shocked...this was not mentioned at all in the description. I, at first, thought maybe the broth is a little foamy; so I took my spoon and dug into the broth...it was obviously a curry broth. It was thick. I tried explaining to the chef that they got my order wrong.I repeated what I asked for and instead of correcting his mistake he decided to stand there and try to gaslight me into it being what I ordered. He was like if you want it spicy add the sate or chilly oil to the broth. I tried my best to explain what I ordered and he kept telling me this is how I make my beef sate. I understand it is expensive to make and he does not want it to be a waste so he was trying to convince me to eat it. However, I did not want to remain there. Sadly, I did not take a picture of the meal. I just got up and left from my table. Apparently, I no longer know what beef sate is.

This place is the best of the best for authentic Vietnamese food. Ive tried many restaurants across Ontario and this one has hit the number one spot for Vietnamese food for me. The food is made fresh as you order, and the seasoning and the love and everything put together is absolutely amazing. Their spring rolls are unique and that have a variety of it. I strongly suggest you try this out. Now as for the environment, I ranked it extremely low. It is small and because its winter time, the front door opening and closing frequently makes it a little uncomfortable to dine in. I really hope this place thrives and grows so they can upgrade the location and generate more $$ because their food is too good for this appearance. (The picture attached was not my dish, it does seem burned but that is just the bone part of the pork, its not normally like this but regardless it was eaten until nothing was left in the plate. I got the caramelized chicken dish, so so delicious)
