1515 Chemin de Saint-Jean-des-Piles secteur, Shawinigan, Quebec G0X 2V0, Canada
Simple cottage featuring cozy rooms & a suite, plus a traditional Balkan tasting room.
A lovely little Gîte (B&B), in the heart of a cute village with a magnificent view of the water and countryside. The decor is a bit dated, with a Country & Western theme, but the host is charming and generous! Breakfast was copious and excellent, shared with other guests but individual servings. Be aware that the area is a LTE white zone, so don’t expect cell connection. Would have been nice if there was an open Wifi network. Will definitely stay there again next time we’re in the region!
Perfect place, close to the park. Very friendly hosts, Meggie told everything about the park, and it was very helpful. Beautiful breakfast, and also you can have dinner after exhausting day. Little tip: You need at least 3 days to see all the park.
Amazing place to stay if you are going to do a hike at Mauricie! Hosts are super friendly and kind! The restaurant offers very tasty and authentic balkan style dishes. I definitely recommend this place!
We have been in Aux Traditions in October. The B&B is ideally located for day tours in the Mauricie National Park. Meggie is a wonderful host, always open and helpful for questions. The dinner was great, too. We stayed in the „yellow room“, which was comfortable. The bathroom is shared by all guests in the second floor, which was OK since all have taken care. Parking in front of the hotel was no problem. The hotel is 2 walking minutes away from the sealine and 10 minutes by car from the national park entry. The price is very appropriate. Overall a clear recommendation, if the shared bathroom is OK.
I stayed for two nights in the blue room, the only room left, with two single beds, when I booked. As I was travelling solo, this was perfect. Meggie & Venelin are very welcoming. The Inn is kept very clean, we enter through the back patio door and remove our shoes. The Inn is very quiet at night and the shared bathroom is spotless. The back garden is a haven with a hammock, picnic tables and parasols. The copious breakfast is delicious and the ambiance is very cozy as the guests from France, Italy and Montreal, get acquainted. Meggie knows Mauricie Park and surrounding area very well, which makes the visit even more rewarding. There is a little communal fridge on the second floor, for your perishables. Not to be missed is the authentic Balkan supper, home made by our hosts. Made with care and extremely delicious, thank you Meggie & Venelin..
We stayed with Meggie and Venelin for two nights in early July, during our visit to Mauricie park and felt very comfortable in their home. Overall first impression was of a well-managed B&B, with inviting exterior and interior ( wi-fi worked without any interruptions). ||The place was full both nights we were there, guests coming from Spain, France, Quebec. Our room was clean, cosy and, in combination with the fresh night air of Saint Jean des Piles, provided us with very restful nights. By the time we made our reservation, the only room left was with the shared bathroom but that turned out not to be an inconvenience at all. ||We had breakfasts on two mornings and a dinner one night; each time the food was excellent, with lots to choose from. We knew that supper starts at the same time for all guests, everyone sitting at one big table but we did not realize beforehand just how well that works in our hosts’ home… Meggie and Venelin created great atmosphere with delicious food and music then expertly conducted a conversation which engaged all the guest. There was lots of laughter around the table and we all had fantastic evening among friends, unforgettable!
Meggie and her husband (whom we called Theo by his middle name because his first name was difficult to remember) were very welcoming and charming hosts.||||Upon arrival we were asked to wear slippers inside and we were given a tour of the house. Meggie introduced us to the other Belgians who were staying at the B&B at the time and gave us a map of La Mauricie National Park, on which she marked the most interesting spots.||||We had reserved their 'table d'hôte' 3 course dinner in the evening and weren't disappointed ! Meggie is Bulgarian and Theo is Greek, and they are both good cooks.||Conversation was animated, and we laughed a lot .||||Our room upstairs was the blue room which had two comfortable single beds. ||The room was very sparsely decorated and clean, and there was a refrigerator in the hall in front of our room.||There was free Wifi., but no television in the room (we didn't need one)||||The bathroom at the end of the hall was shared with 3 other rooms, which slight inconvenience is the reason why I didn't mark this B&B as "excellent".||||In the morning we had an extensive breakfast with pancakes, self-made croissants, fruit, cheeses and ham,home-made jam, yoghurt and fruitjuice and excellent coffee.||||Close by the B&B there is a small "depanneur" (convenience store) where you can buy sandwiches etc. for your pick-nick in the National Park, which is close by.. ||In La Mauricie N.P. there are several lakes and viewpoints worth investigating. ||||Before breakfast we went to Lac du Fou in order to spot wild moose, but we didn't see one. We saw a red fox and different kinds of wild birds though, and the other Belgians had seen several black bears the previous evening on an expedition with Eric Allard of the B&B Aux Berges St Maurice. ||||This is a beautiful region to spend a few days, and we certainly recommend a stay with Meggie and Theo !
My partner and me had a wonderful stay at this newly established B&B close to the entrance of La Mauricie National Park. The hosts were very welcoming and always ready to give helpful advice and information about the region. The rooms were nicely decorated, well maintained and spotlessly clean. We were offered a great, fresh breakfast every morning in the cosy open kitchen. Parking and wifi were available for free. The B&B is located in the centre of the village, a pub and a restaurant are within walking distance. It took us only a few minutes to enter the National Park where we went kayaking on Lake Wapizagonke and tried some of the hiking trails. One night we went dining in Shawinigan which is a 15 min drive away and offers a number of restaurants and shops. We arrived to St-Jean-des-Piles as strangers but Meggie and her husband made us feel like we left as friends.
A very good stay here The rooms are simple but comfortable, bathroom shared but clean Affordable evening meal offered The location is ideal
Very close to national park. Also offers very good dinner. Rooms are not very big, but OK.
Superb welcome from Meggie in this small inn at the gates of the Mauricie National Park. Very clean and comfortable rooms, catering available nearby, and good and fresh breakfast! In short, I recommend!
Awesome ! At the doorstep of La Mauricie Park and these large natural spaces. The owners are very friendly, attentive and easily start a conversation, give useful advice and therefore contribute to the very warm atmosphere of the place. Thank you for this welcome.
What a splendid evening! very nice encounters, quality exchanges, traditional and excellent cuisine (hearty) for a controlled budget. We felt like family...the BEST An experience to repeat
Meggie and Venelin welcomed us like friends in their very traditional and warm gîte!! With our one-year-old daughter, we slept like marmots in our suite, after a festive evening at the table dhôtes where we had a great time!! I warmly recommend this address to anyone looking for authenticity and human contact. Food and drinks: Greek/Bulgarian cuisine, homemade with love!!
Nice exchange and warm welcome from the host! Very good and generous breakfast! Helpful person !
Rarely seen such a warm and pleasant welcome in a guest house, the couple is really very very charming! It was a pleasure to stay here, I will return with great pleasure and I really recommend it. Thank you for everything !
Gite very well placed for visiting the Mauricie park and its surroundings where we spent 3 nights. An award of excellence to our hosts Meggie and her husband for their kindness and their good Balkan and Greek dinners. Advice worthy of a professional guide from Meggie for visiting La Mauricie Park. In short, an address to remember. Nearby activities: Close to the entrance to La Mauricie Park. The lumberjacks village Sugar shack Maple grove visit Food and drinks: Balkan and Greek type menus. Good local beer (the devil s hole) and the famous Ouzo de Téo
Very warm welcome, very friendly family. The owner is really lovely and gave us lots of good advice on visits. The meals are very good, very generous, like the breakfasts! I totally recommend!
Kind owners
Best party place
Everything is cheap. Small bed and uncomfortable mattress. Hearty breakfast but with discounted ingredients. The hostess is welcoming and attentive but that is not everything.
A wonderful experience in this lodge The owners are very friendly and Meggie will not hesitate to give you excellent advice on visiting the park The meals were tasty and it was a pleasure to share them with everyone I recommend this place with my eyes closed.
Excellent stay in an exquisite location. Recommended!
Everything was perfect in the B&B, specialy the host Maggie, very friendly, welcoming, good food, good accommodation, good location highly recommended
This cottage is very nice and ideal for visiting / walking in the Mauricie park. The lodge is only a few minutes from the park entrance. Meggie is incredible: helpful, kind, welcoming and full of good advice for visits to the region. She prepares good breakfasts and the table dhôte dinners are just as good. This cottage is very good value for money. Nearby activities: Mauritie Park Energy City Sugar shack Food and drinks: Hearty sweet/savory breakfast with pastries or pancakes Very good table dhôte dishes, Greek and Bulgarian specialties.
We were made very welcome as soon as we arrived at the gîte with free parking right outside. The hotel is very well decorated. We attended a birthday party and we were able to enjoy an extraordinary atmosphere (Bulgarian and Greek). We were able to dance and have fun. The menu was plentiful and excellent. Breakfast was also very good. The whole thing was very good value for money. Meggie planned our visit to La Mauricie Park for us taking into account our schedule. Her husband was also very friendly and created a very good atmosphere. We enjoyed our discussions with them. We highly recommend this cottage and we would return there if the opportunity presented itself! It is wise to book in advance! Nearby activities: Mauricie Park 5 minutes by car.
Warm welcome, excellent value for money and delicious breakfast!
Excellent location to visit the park. Dinner was also very good, with Greek wine which was excellent and very affordable!
An absolutely perfect stay! Meggie takes great care of her guests throughout their stay. The atmosphere is friendly, focused on sharing, without fuss, good humor and kindness are the key words. We eat and sleep well there, we feel at home and more than anything we really feel welcome. The lodge is at the gates of the Mauricie park and Meggies advice was invaluable to us during our visit. This stay will be remembered for sure!
Unforgettable thank you
Lovely, fabulous, clean place in a totally lovely location!! The hosts, Maggie, Théo and Maria, are welcoming and warm to both adults and children. We went there in winter and most likely we will return there during the summer. Thank you for our stay!!!!!
Very nice stay, very warm welcome from Meggie and her daughter. The rooms and meals lived up to our expectations. Big up for the takeaway breakfast because we were leaving at dawn. We highly recommend this cozy nest. Virginie and Pascal, from La Rochelle.
A stop to have our evening meal, without waiting, without knowing what awaited us. We were treated to a change of scenery as much culinary as in terms of decor. A most friendly welcome. A delicious traditional Balkan meal. We will definitely return.
Very welcoming hosts! Super cute and clean room, nice quiet grounds. Right next to Parc de la Mauricie. Hearty and excellent lunch perfect for cycling or hiking!!
The most fun, friendly, festive lodge in Quebec . Go there, you really wont be disappointed.
We received a very warm and personal welcome. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. They gave us helpful tips for visiting the national park and organized a bear watching tour for us. We immediately felt at home there. Your cuisine is excellent. The rooms are simply furnished. There is a shared shower and toilet. But the good atmosphere in the house and the exciting conversations with the fast donors and fellow travelers far outweigh that. Price-performance is completely right. I can only recommend the accommodation!
Good little typical Eastern European and Greek restaurant. Enjoy the drink at a very affordable price. Greek red wine is very good
A lucky overnight stay oufffff. When we arrived (7 p.m. hrs) 8 people were already seated at the party we were thinking of eating a dish there, we changed our mind. We went out to have a bite to eat at our return 9 p.m. the light spots, the smoke and the music continued until 10:30 p.m. the purpose of our visit was to rest a little before returning home after a long week on the road. Large room (suite) double bed a real 28° stove no air circulation, no air conditioning only a fan, private but tiny bathroom as well as the shower. Only positive point good lunch Really disappointed never Its not as peaceful as any other hostel or b&b weve visited in recent years.
Unforgettable stay!
Very nice welcome. Owner friendly and available. Very nice restaurant and good service. A stop at this lodge is recommended.
Impeccable service, unforgettable evening with my friends. Excellent food and disco atmosphere. Very welcoming and friendly owners. The owners offered us interesting and useful routes. Strongly recommended.
The welcome is exceptional . Our hosts were charming and attentive. The rooms are very correct. Breakfast and evening meal very very good. We tasted Greek and Bulgarian specialties . The location is perfect for visiting the National Park and our hostess knows it perfectly and can provide a lot of information. The place is calm. Thanks again to our hosts for their kindness .
I give 5 stars as I cant give more. The owners make you feel at home and part of their family. The lady also speaks Italian very well, everyone is willing to help you and facilitate your holiday. excellent breakfast and the restaurant is also very good (open from Friday to Sunday). Small but decent rooms, shared bathroom but very spacious.
We ate a delicious meal at the inn. The owners are extremely warm and have a great sense of hospitality. We had a very good evening and thanks to their advice our visit to the Mauricie park was great. Many thanks again.... Valérie and her friends..
We spent several nights at this B&B. It was really very nice. The rooms are clean, charming. The meals are plentiful and of high quality; Meggie and her husband are attentive hosts and always ready to please. Very good advice on walks to take and places to visit. I recommend !
The welcome is excellent, the table too and the owner couple really gives very good advice. The location is ideal, before or after visiting La Mauricie Park. the village is small, but very cute, with a small marina.
Great experience at this hostel in the yellow room. Maggie is very welcoming and gave us great advice for the Parc de la Mauricie. We will come back in winter, thats for sure! Thanks again and see you next time. Marianne
Very nice experience, very warm staff
Here we find a very warm welcome, a clean house and very good meals! Meggie is very friendly, attentive and provides very good advice for visiting the Parc de la Mauricie. It s a perfect stopover! The evening cuisine is also very good and some evenings are very convivial, I was able to interact and make friends with the hosts and other customers.
Wow! Delicious, warm and exceptional service!!! If I could give 6 stars, I would!
This place is amazing, if you love good food and service, so this places is for you. Most of this is due to a warm reception and service given by the owners. They are a cool family. In addition, the place is find out in the heart of the town. I sure you, you will love it.
We stayed one night in the lodge. The hostess is adorable and recommended lots of places to see in the area. Very friendly and warm, you feel really good there. I highly recommend :)!
Great last minute find after a hike in La Mauricie National Park. Mixture of Greek, Bulgarian cuisine. Everything is there, its good, good portion, you get what you pay for and the owner and his wife know how to set the mood. I recommend. We had a great time.
Simply wonderful, the place is very cozy, the food impeccable, and the flavors of Cyprus, the Balkans, and Russia, delight diners who discover tones on their palates.
Friendly welcome
Excellent. We were warmly welcomed. The food is excellent! I advise you to go and have a good Balkan meal! Everything is perfect in there! The family is super nice and I m definitely going to go back there! I loved my experience and you have to stop to eat!!!! Not to be missed! Thank you very much for the service and keep up the good work :) you have a beautiful family
I loved this place! The welcome could not be warmer. I had 2 evening meals at the hostel and it was delicious, as were the hearty lunches, ideal for starting a day of cross-country skiing in the Parc de la Mauricie! The place is very quiet and very clean. I will definitely go back soon!
Dedicated staff, they helped us and made the calls to plan our day at La Mauricie Park. Thank you so much. Very appreciated
Its difficult to do better as a welcome as our hosts are so friendly. Quiet location 5 minutes from the entrance to Parc de la Mauricie. Sweet and savory breakfasts: hearty. The hostess will be happy to show you the places not to be missed, as well as the times of the day when you should be there. Dont hesitate a minute to make your reservation
Stumbling upon this charming gîte, we were delighted with our stay! The hosts were remarkably kind and their welcome was wonderful: they helped and advised us about the Parc de la Mauricie, which they know very well, we were very well served by their daughter, the traditional food was delicious and comforting, and most importantly, we had many interesting and pleasant conversations in a nice and friendly tone, as if we were part of the family! To all this is obviously added their magnificent house, rustic, very warm, clean and comfortable, and also the magnificent landscapes of Mauricie, which we could see from the window of our room. We were really able to unwind and relax! Thanks again and we will definitely be back to see you again!
Its a magnificent place. The food is super delicious, the service excellent. I highly recommend this place.
Gite with b&b traditions
Restaurant only, but the lodge looks very pleasant.
We just ate there in the evening. What a charming surprise!!! Everything was good. The owners are really very nice. A real pleasure for us. Our only regret: not having slept there.
Excellent homemade food!
Coming to the ends of the world to eat Greek and Bulgarian food, very good, and what s more, it s priceless. We entered by chance, being a little fed up with burgers and other tasteless poutines and here we ate well. When the waitress apologized because the menu didnt have many dishes, we suddenly had hope that we were in the right place. For us, a thick menu card means poor quality. The welcome was very friendly.
Very nice place and the owner of the place is super friendly. Highly recommended.
Very good evening, with great culinary discoveries (we didnt expect to eat Greek in the Mauricie park), and a perfect welcome. Everyone was very friendly, from the manager to the waitress to the cook. In addition to the meal, they gave us valuable advice for our stay in Mauricie. A very nice evening!
Very warm place and welcome. We ate wonderfully well. And the breakfast was exceptional. We had all the details about our hikes in the parks as well as documents from the owner We highly recommend this cottage
We tested that the restaurant was excellent, thank you for your welcome :)
Wonderful welcome, very friendly breakfast and very attentive owners.
The restaurant is awesome! Probably one of the best restaurants in town, for the quality of the food and the excellence of the service!
Business owner should keep his temper in every circumstances. Getting mad at another customer for very trivial reasons is sad and not appropriate
Super friendly hosts with whom we can exchange varied and interesting conversations and who share their culture with us, a friendly place. Nothing to change there. Keep it up!
Magnificent stay!!! A lovely meeting with our hosts. Superb house, clean, very well located and the food is divinely good!!! An address to recommend!!!
The welcome, the location, the place, the rooms, the breakfast, everything is absolutely perfect! We will come back without hesitation and we hope for even longer!
Warm and attentive welcome!
The best place to visit in Canada. The food is out of this world. The owners are the nicest people I ever met. There are also so many parcs and lakes to see around the place. We visit them very often.
Great hosts!
We, with our friends, had unforgettable evenings! THANKS
I stayed at Maggies during my trip to Quebec with my family and its the best memory I have of it. The cottage is very warm and its hosts are kind-hearted. Dance, music, laughter and good food!! I highly recommend and if the opportunity arises I will happily return!!
Very warm welcome, comfortable house in a superb setting. We would have liked to stay there longer.
Exceptional ,traditional restaurant where me and family enjoyed Bulgarian cuisine and hospitality!Very warm welcome by the family owners- Megie and Venko !Strongly recommended!
Very happy with our 2 days spent in this truly top-notch welcoming gîte. Very generous breakfast with good advice for cross-country skiing and photos to take. We will definitely come back in summer!! I recommend!!!
Beautiful place!
Extra welcome and comfortable rooms.
Couple who welcome you were so nice I highly recommend
Charming hosts, impeccable rooms, guaranteed cleanliness, remarkable breakfast and plenty of advice for visiting the park.
If you decide to visit Parc Maurice we recommend staying here. The B&B is located about 5 km from the park entrance, in a very well-kept structure in a very nice and quiet village. The rooms are comfortable and very clean, the wifi is excellent throughout the entire hotel. The owners, husband and wife, are exceptional. Maggie speaks 5 languages including Italian, she is also a fantastic cook; we recommend you dine at the B&B to savor the fantastic dishes it prepares. Furthermore, meeting up in the evening to have dinner together with the other guests with Maggie and her husband is a wonderful experience. We also had clothes prepared for lunch. Excellent breakfast! Unfortunately we didnt have more time available so we only stayed here for 2 days.
Very warm welcome, excellent homemade breakfast, of very good quality and very varied. The owners give very good advice regarding visiting the Mauricie park!! Great experience!
Beautiful place.
The landlady is very enthusiastic and introduces the surrounding tourism information in detail. The location is also good. The breakfast was very rich, but because there were several other guests in the room eating together, it was a little bit less free and they had to socialize and chat, which was unexpected.
Very warm welcome. Pleasant rooms. Very well placed for walking in La Mauricie Park.
Very warm welcome, very friendly hosts! Clean, comfortable and quiet. Well located for a host of outdoor activities both in summer and winter! Good dinner of traditional Balkan cuisine. However, breakfast and lunch of fair to low quality for the asking price.
This cottage is definitely the place you should stay if you are in the area. The hosts are charming and love what they do. The rooms are very clean and very quiet. The beds are very comfortable, good nights sleep guaranteed. We ate there in the evening and everything was very good, its certainly the best place to eat in the village. It is also the guarantee of spending an excellent evening with warm people who exude joy and good humor. I highly recommend this cottage, there is little chance of being disappointed.
Excellent cottage! Wonderful welcome, very pretty and comfortable room and gîte. As a bonus, valuable advice for the next day at the park! We highly recommend!
Superb welcome The atmosphere is very nice and friendly The meals are also very good
The welcome, the kindness, the comfort, and the breakfast all in a good mood. Proximity to La Mauricie Park. Meggies smile. This cottage is not to be missed under any circumstances.
