Fine Indian Cuisine Dine in, Take out and Delivery Restaurant
When my wife first came to Canada, I took her to Shalimar. I knew the service was exceptional, the selection at the buffet is simply delicious and the atmosphere is relaxing, perfect for a romantic getaway! I’d been there years ago - a buffet for my friend’s birthday, and remembered it vividly. I’ll admit I bit off more than I could chew on that date (vindaloo chicken is spicy and I wanted to impress my fiancée) but we still had a wonderful time. Yet it was coming back nearly every Wednesday or Thursday since our wedding to get some of the à la carte menu that we began truly appreciating this wonderful place. We learned from our server Tim - shoutout to Tim, you’re awesome - that the kitchen is suited with a genuine tandoori oven and the recipes are family traditions, even homemade! You’re not getting anymore authentic in the Eastern Townships. Is it a little pricey? Sure, a little bit, but for quality like this, I’m willing to pay through the nose! The food is succulent, their butter chicken being a personal favourite, with generous portions that leave you full and happy. The staff is pleasant and professional - thank you again Tim - and the restaurant is warm, inviting and relaxing! You’ll find me and my wife in Shalimar as often as we can and we hope to see you there as well!
Excellent service with very friendly and deeply professional staff. Food is always amazing. While a touch pricey as compared to other places, the quality of the food and service are worth every cent. Try the samosas (veggie or meat), they’re fantastic. Wednesdays and Thursdays are ideal days to visit. Other days are buffet, which is excellent also. However, if you want to experience the full menu, Wed and Thu are best!
Really good authentic Indian food. I've only tried vegetarian food only.
Traveling through on the way to the States and was very impressed with Shalimar. Quite busy but staff was wonderful. Menu a little limited but lots of food per order. Lamb dish was fabulous. They accomodated our English. Would eat here again.
I personally love the buffet, worth the money! The guys of the week when the meals are a la carte I find it a bit pricy but it is very good Indian food 👌. Nice little place and the employees are very well chosen as they are very pleasant. It kinda feels like a mom and pop's restaurant and it's something that is going almost extinct nowadays.
We had a lovely buffet dinner at Shalimar - we didn't know they require a reservation, but got lucky that there was a small table free. The food was delicious, though I would've liked to see one more meat option, and if you go hungry and ready to eat more than one plate, it's a great value. Our waitress was lovely as well, and we really appreciated the service.
The restaurant offers delicious Indian cuisine and beverages, and the staff is exceptionally welcoming and friendly.
I went with family for a dinner with no reservation, which i shouldn’t have done, and the place was packed but they kindly offered to assist after a couple mentioned they were leaving shortly. Food wise, i bet anyone can get decent food wherever, but this place offers the best service in my perspective, with authentic Indian cuisine served in authentic dishes. and even though we were there during the covid thing with no buffet available whatsoever, we found the menu to be decent, an almost all inclusive for a fixed price, which i found to be pretty decent. This place is definitely worth a detour and i will for sure go back again.
Dishes not cooked according to Indian tradition. Very disappointed with my dinner.
Excellent food, professional service. Quality all-you-can-eat Saturday buffet (butter chicken & spicy shrimp not to be missed!!) thanks to the staff for this wonderful evening. I recommend the place 100%
If you havent tried this restaurant yet, you gotta go now. The butter chicken and the naan bread are to die for. The service is awesome.
I wanted to order a vegetarian dish It was my first visit and the last I was suggested to order another dish almost $9 more under the pretext that the cook was running out of time So I ordered the dish they mentioned to me There was almost nothing on the plate It was very ordinary,! the beans were not good, there was a yogurt sauce with nothing accompanying it?? Really weird??? I usually go to Indian restaurants in Montreal where the food is excellent. I found the price very high: $26 for almost nothing on the vegetarian plate. the 2nd waitress was much more competent and kind than the first I will never go to this restaurant again, the prices are very high and it was not good at all I asked to speak to the manager, I was told she was busy, they did not agree to compensate me The bill was very high for almost nothing on the plate
Very disappointed. Really mediocre food, minute rice, very dull atmosphere. Expensive for low quality. It was the first and last time.
Delicious as always, great service and buffet !
My boyfriend wasn t a fan of Indian cuisine until he tried the Chicken Tikka Masala from this place. Thank you, Shalimar, for converting him!
A charming place, friendly presentation and bites that are hard to forget. Very conclusive first experience. THANKS !
Calling at 4:15 p.m. to have an order prepared, only to be told it will be ready at 5:30 p.m. Arrives at 5:30pm and its not ready, has to wait another 15 minutes. Arrives at our house and receives a call to tell me to bring the order back because they didnt give me the right one. In short, never, its a shame because it tastes good. Well go to masala cafe instead.
Great curry and garlic nan
1st time, last time. We are from Lennoxville and we will clearly give bad publicity.. We call at 6:15 p.m. Our plate will be ready at 7:15 p.m. We accept. Arrived, the wait is 15 minutes. Leave there with a bill of more than $26 for a take-out . The problem is not the price.. but the disappointment of what we see. 19:35 here is what we unpack (see photo). There are 13 small shrimps inside the sauce. No vegetables nothing. Sauced shrimp. Im calling to see if anything is missing from my order. Nothing is settled. I speak to a (friendly) employee but do not refer to the boss. Seems like thats what I ordered. I ask: but where is the salad? See photo of the menu. No salad. Its the yogurt pot. In short, I told them that it was the first and last time. Especially since they dont even compensate. False advertising on their menu. This is not correct and misleading. Illegal even. I will even go to denounce. Im still waiting for explanations. You can write to me again below to discuss it and I will most likely remove my comment following explanations.
Delicious overall!
Vegetarian and vegan options. The takeaway menu for 2 is excellent and the portions are very generous, we always have leftovers.
Definitely the best restaurant in Lennoxville. The buffet variety is limited but every dish is excellent!!
We ordered several meals and were surprised by the hefty bill... in terms of quality and price it was not good. The rice was dry, not well seasoned, tandoori chicken normally accompanied by fresh vegetables like onions and peppers was accompanied by cooked cabbage. It says Basmati rice on the menu, but it was rice pilaf. In general, the dishes lacked freshness and flavor. In Montreal, we often go to various Indian restaurants and it costs us 50% less for better, we were very disappointed..
Quite disappointing overall, average quality of food and above all high bill for what we ate. Well flavored butter chicken but poorly cooked rice. However, the service in the room was very pleasant, which was not the case with the people I spoke to on the phone for the reservation. The buffet option is perhaps better but I dont really want to go back.
We were there for the buffet formula on a Saturday evening. Very tasty, we travel pleasantly, very pleasant for the palate but be aware that some dishes can be quite spicy. We will go back there for sure.
Food is really good Indian food. Their buffet is fantastic. Vegetarian options: Many delicious vegetarian options. Food : 5/5 |
This is the first time Ive bothered to rate a restaurant. My wife had told me about this restaurant on several occasions. We were very excited to go there tonight. When we got there, the place was crowded, which was a good sign, except that we were told that we had to wait, even though we had a reservation. Ok, its still correct. 5, then 10 minutes pass. There clearly seems to be an organizational problem, the waitresses seem caught off guard. Its Friday evening... We end up finding a place, the waitress thanks us for our patience. His smile is sincere, we move on. Its a buffet. The variety of dishes is limited. Okay, maybe thats excellent and it will be enough. No, its pretty average. The Aloo Matar is translucent, poor in vegetables, not tasty... We get up to help ourselves, our table is cleared, our glasses and cutlery have disappeared. Communication error between waitresses. Ok it can happen. We reported the disappearance of our cutlery, the glasses took 10 minutes to return. Then comes dessert: rice pudding or two scoops of ice cream with chocolate or mango syrup. Nothing Indian in short, not even a Gulab Jamun hastily defrosted in the microwave. Discouraged, I let my wife choose the ice cream scoops for us. It was the highlight of the show, everything that was missing from this tragedy straight out of a Bollywood film. The ice cream was served summarily, as if thrown at the bottom of a bowl with no other choice than a syrup of more than dubious quality (it was not Nesquik. No name at best). I looked for the hidden camera, I couldnt find it. Im waiting to pay to get a final idea of my experience. After all, if this restaurant had been a canteen I would have passed on without complaint. I look at the price displayed: $82, to which we had to add a minimum $12 tip. I came out with a $95 bill, no drinks or anything. Before leaving, I allowed myself to say a word about all this to the waitress, in a calm, almost scientific manner, and being aware that it was not her fault. The lady was defensive, unable to admit anything except that their restaurant has a province-wide reputation and that the price is more than fair for a buffet. Bravo to those who can pay that price for quality like this and sleep with a clear conscience afterwards. I dont have that strength of character.
Buffet style. Loved the spiciness of the food. They sponsor my church so I saw the ad in the church newsletter n decided to try them out n it was worth it
Nice place good ambience but does not have real Indian taste ( I am not saying extra spice ) it has no Indian taste
Excellent service . I Iike the place plus foods
Expensive and nan was burned everytime I got it
Good butter chicken Beef that melts in your mouth. Spicy shrimp to my liking. Some other dishes included in this buffet. I loved this Indian restaurant
After a long time I ate something like this in Canada, home made authentic taste
Big crush on the mango Lassi. Excellent Indian dishes. I highly recommend.
Great place to eat. Service was great and the food is delicious Vegetarian options: They have delicious vegetarian options Parking: Plenty of parking Kid-friendliness: They love kids and they are very attentive to kids
Excellent buffet
Favourite place in Sherbrooke to have northern style India cuisine. The food here reminds me of some of the dishes I had while travelling in India. They have buffet style certain nights, a la carte, or take-out. There are also some items not on the menu but that you can ask for, like paneer. You can find the information on their website or just give them a call. Reservations are recommended, they book up fast and space is limited.
Very nice place and interesting food! We had the buffet, next time we will try the menu! Recommended dishes
One word wow
Succulent!
Self-service buffet restaurant. The employees are super smiley and available. 40$ Wheelchair accessibility: Ramp for the disabled
Very good cuisine. The Mango Lassi was really good. There was no Ghoulab Jamon... the small dessert balls when I went there so I had a rice pudding (Good cardamom flavor) with pieces in it. The waitresses are lovely. Two really beautiful women... it was amazing... I will go back there when I go to Sherbrooke! Vegetarian options: There are vegetarian dishes in the buffet but also several with meat.
Excellent buffet menu. Everything was excellent, authentic Indian cuisine. Impeccable service.
2 hours for a take out? Never again Food
Authentic Indian cuisine, prepared by a talented and friendly chef. I had the chance to speak with her and what an incredible human being. The service and welcome are personalized and very friendly! Not to mention the butter chicken is exceptional! Vegetarian options: Very nice vegetarian offering. In Indian cuisine it is essential.
We have visited this restaurant several times, obligatory buffet at $40 per person on Saturdays. On the other hand, following our questions we were told that local people (Indians) had the right to the à la carte menu. Discrimination difficult to encourage for the future not many vegetarian options in the buffet and be Indian if you want to have the privileges. Damage !
The place is nice, clean, and the food was great. The menu on line is incorrect for pricing. The value for money needs to be reviewed.
Best in the townships!
Food is okish, not so much good if you are pure vegetarian. They have fewer options, but obviously, you will not get many options like monteral. But still good as sherbrooke do not have many indian restaurants.
Dietary restrictions: I have Celiac Disease and I was surprised by how easy it was for me to eat from the buffet!!! I just mentioned I needed gluten free food and the waiter, who was very friendly, talked to the kitchen staff and came back to let me know what I could and could not eat. Very good food. Will return.
The Saturday buffet was succulent and varied. I especially liked the spicy shrimp. We were 9 adults and 2 babies. Everyone really enjoyed their evening. Parking: Large parking lot
good food, slightly high prices, efficient service
One of the very good Indians in Quebec. Don t miss the spicy (green) coriander sauce! Im taking the detour from Montreal to eat at Shalimar!!
Very disappointing. Dark and icy parking lot. Evening menu, obligatory buffet at $36. Far too expensive and quite ordinary. Constant coming and going next to the table. Very disturbing. Double wine from the SAQ. No privacy. Bathroom too dark. Too bad, but its over for me.
A superb discovery!!! Takeaway order and nothing to complain about, tasty dishes and generous portions! I highly recommend
Delicious food. Nice clean place. Should remind waitress to calm down. The Ambré dAmour beer was very nice and smooth.
I liked the dishes are well done and served very hot I recommend if you need employees to save more service time I can recommend people thank you
Still so tasty
Excellent! The buffet is perfect, good variety, spicy and at least spicy The staff is courteous and friendly....its worth the detour
The authentic food is delicious and the service is excellent!
Quality and good meal from origen. To return
be careful -- I got charged for a full meal and only got half of whats supposed to be included for a takeout. They decided not to give me a heads-up or a price adjustment...
Im used to Indian restaurants and here the portions are ridiculously small... whats more, we were harassed at 9 p.m. even though our dishes werent finished leaving. Unacceptable customer service. The rice seemed reheated.
Best indian restraunt in sherbrooke
We were not surprised to find that the meal was buffet style! When booking (3 weeks before the date), we never mentioned that Thursday is a buffet! On the site, you can read the menu. This meal plan was surprising in times of COVID-19. Serving utensils are handled by all customers. Also, no indication of the cost of the buffet...we had to ask: $35 even if we didnt have dessert. In addition, a smiling and welcoming young man had the task of collecting the empty plates from the tables. He came by regularly and often. It was almost dizzying. Even though the food is excellent, the dining experience was very disappointing for us. Being yourself in motion during the meal and the other customers around us did not encourage exchanges. This was our shortest dinner in a long time (75 minutes). I regret a little having traveled 200 km to go to this restaurant where the atmosphere was hectic and not conducive to meeting friends.
Surprise when we arrived that it was a buffet instead of the a la carte menu as listed on the website. The buffet is OK, but little choice. Now our bills arrive and another surprise, $40 per person for a buffet!! The buffet is unfortunately not worth this price in my opinion...
The extra charge on the menu said that the entree would come with chutneys, which it didnt. The menu also said that some of the mains would come with their specific vegetables and sides which they didnt. All of the dishes were served with the same vegetables (zucchini) and standard rice. The food was ok but I was expecting a little bit more of a taste explosion\expierence. The waitresses were very nice and service was impeccable.
There was only buffet available. Good soup. The buffet had no variety. It was 50$ for one person with a drink and tip. I would not eat there again.
Buffet, but few dishes. Indian but not very spicy. Rather clear dhal soup. Missing classics like spinach in sauce with Indian cheese! But what is offered is good and the service is attentive and warm!
Vegetarian options: Curry végétarien, salade, beignets de légumes Food
Everything was delicious. Its a small buffet. Little choice, but very good quality. Dishes were refilled quickly and plates removed efficiently too. Very good service. Watch out for the shrimp, delicious but very spicy. I absolutely recommend. Great discovery of Indian cuisine
The dishes were very good! I found it expensive for the quantity given, but excellent meal and service!
Very good service, good butter chicken, the Naans are excellent and the quality and quantity of the food is worth the price. Dining room that can accommodate around forty people in addition to the bar counter. Beautiful menu with meat choices and vegetarian options! To discover!
Excellent service and choice of truly excellent menus
Great dining experience. One of the best in Sherbrooke.
Great place to enjoy some Indian dishes. A bit expensive though.
Pretty decent indian food here
Nice taste and quality of the food.
Good
Bad
Super
So great to get flavourful Indian food in Sherbrooke. So delicious.
I loved the food, its just super good. I will come back with pleasure
Excellent food. Great staff. Although pricey compared to similar restaurants in Montreal, the food is always of high standard, fresh and enjoyable. High-quality all around and a must visit for anyone seeking Indian food in Sherbrooke.
I love Shalimar. I miss the buffet formula which allows us to taste several things but thats the reality in 2021. So we have the table dhôte formula. The thalis we ate were delicious. Butter chicken, lamb, tandoori chicken. The tandoori was served on a really delicious cabbage and served with a vegetable pilaf and raita. I would have liked to have dahl too but the chicken and cabbage was worth it. The others are served with white rice, raita, a really good dalh and a cauliflower curry. Order your chai tea before you finish eating if you want it at the same time as the coffees. They offer a local cask beer called Foxtail brewed for them which is really very good.
Everything was excellent
Delicious meal, courteous staff
Shrimp vindaloo is exquisite. Staff are quick and polite. Very good food and clean place. Would recommend!
Excellent Great discovery! Well done
Excellent Indian restaurant! Butter chicken is delicious!
Excellent!
An excellent place for Indian food in lenoxville. The service was excellent
Very warm welcome, as soon as you enter, you feel the spices of the kitchen, it gives you a lot of confidence and then this comes to fruition on the plate. We will return.
Worst experience!! I ordered kofta with naan, and the guy gave me thali saying koftas are finished. He mentioned that he will give me thali for koftas and naan price. Later the waitress served me a plate of koftas even after knowing the situation. In the end, guy charged me for both thali and koftas. Food quality was also worst, I got food poision.
Delicious
Delicious food. We had the Tandoori chicken and lamb. Would visit again. They also squeezed us in at the last minute which was very kind.
I gave three stars for the service as the food was not even worth one star. I am Indian, born and raised in India - this is not Indian cuisine. The chicken curry I got was made with ketchup. It tasted awful. I dont care about the price - if the food is authentic and tasty I am happy to pay whatever they want since I am so far away from India and getting Indian food here is a privilege... But the food was not Indian. We dont use ketchup in our curries in India!
The welcome wasnt great and the waiting time was too long (1 hour) but it doesnt matter, it was a rush and I understand. But the naan bread that I was served had a hole in the middle and was very poorly cooked (almost burned on one side). At least dont give it to the customer or at least warn me that the bread is bad or I dont know. But dont let the customer discover the surprise at home once he leaves!!!!!!
We are really happy with our visit at shalimar. I called them and ask for customized food(without OG) and they did their best to accommodate our food. Food was so nice and delicious. The restaurant was clean and very impressive service. Staff is very kind and helpful. All over experience was amazing. I must recommend every gujju people to go and visit them, you will be happy. I will definitely go again at this place.
The butter chicken and Naan are delicious
Tasty and good quality dishes. Everything is fresh and ready on time. The portions are generous.
The best Indian cuisine in Estrie that I have eaten in my entire life. The ambiance, service and menu are second to none!
Excellent food and very friendly staff!
Lovely place, great food and excellent service! Floor manager Tim is incredibly welcoming and really made our night.
Authentic Indian cuisine, friendly staff. Wonderful chef! A must! Please go!
Fine, Indian cuisine
Friendly staff, good Indian food
Loved the food quality, portion and taste and Hospitality ! Will surely come again here.
amazing food
Restaurant that seemed nice during our family vacation trip to the region. But the reception was a little dry from the start, asking us to book next time (uh... its because we were passing by, sorry). They wanted to impose a $ surcharge on us for the children (however small it may be) to be able to share our ordered dishes. In the dozens of Indian restaurants that I have visited (Quebec, Mtl, Ottawa, Toronto, USA, etc.) we have never seen such a practice. It s the very essence of an Indian restaurant to order various dishes and share. In short, we didnt get past the glass of water stage and we left, a matter of principle and respect. Too bad but I dont pay for an empty plate, no matter the amount.
Food is fantastic, and spicy like I want it.
Me and my friends who ve grown up eating Indian/Middle Eastern cuisine were excited when everyone we knew recommended this restaurant to us as authentic and delicious. It was not. We had gone to the buffet and tried all they had to offer, from the under seasoned and under cooked rice to the off tasting cauliflower curry. It all tasted so bad. We ended eating naan and chutney for dinner, regretting ever coming and vowing to never come again unless we were desperate.
Service and food are delicious!!
Delicious and good quality food, great service, calm and pleasant atmosphere.
Best Indian food in town!
ALWAYS THE BEST FOOD AND SERVICES...THANKS TO A FABULOUS TEAM
My favourite place since the last 25 years; never a disappointment
Excellent experience all around! Thumbs up!!
Sincerely saying I hail from south India and have tasted almost most of the south Indian and few north Indian dishes... First of all I would like to classify it as an expensive place. In addition the food cant be categorised as genuine Indian cuisine as it is modified to fit to Canadian cuisine. Being a Google local guide I think it is my responsibility to be genuine. If you want to taste real Indian dishes that matches traditional Indian cuisine visit one of your Indian friends or visit restaurants in Montréal. They are far far better....
Too expensive and not enough choice in the buffet
To discover! Excellent Indian buffet on Saturday! Although its $30 per person without drinks.
Everything was very good in the buffet! This allows you to taste several typical dishes without having to choose.
We always do take-out at Shalimar, as the restaurant is usually crowded and space is limited. When we have eaten in the restaurant, the service is warm and friendly. No wonder Shalimar is popular with locals. The food is well prepared, punctual, and delicious tasting. I particularly like the pakoras and the vindaloo. The menu is limited, but every item is kind to palate and digestion. It is not cheap, but the quality is superior. Being on the road very often and in restaurants at least a dozen times a week, this is by far the best Indian I ve had. Butter chicken is a slam dunk. The spices and aromas are all a great part of the experience. Ask for Tim to be your waiter, great sense of humour. To end the Chai tea is fantastic.
The staff is very welcoming, buffet limited but excellent, I recommend
The place was surprisingly full of people for quite a small space, it was a buffet and I have trouble eating something with no name especially because Im vegetarian, yes I do know what meat looks like but it would have been nice to know the name of the dishes and what was in it! I found it really expensive for what it really was. Really not my cup of tea. The service was ok, I liked the fact that I had the chance to talk to the chef and when she learned that I was a vegetarian she offered to cook something for me which was really appreciated
Too good! I loved my experience.
Very good Indian. So tasty!
Loved it, always a great time and amazing food.
Delicious !!
Alright
It was excellent! Small dining room, quite noisy during rush hour, it covers the background music. But the food takes away all the bruahah. At first we think the portions are small, but they are much larger and nutritious than we think. Its excellent, and we never regret our choice. I had chai tea 3 times. The bill at the end is even high but for the quality it is worth the right price.
Thumbs up for the Indian place here, everything we tried fresh and tasteful.
Best Indian restaurant Ive had the chance to eat at. Everything is delicious, fresh and the service is impeccable.
Very good meal and very good service
Its the best in the region. Whether buffet or a la carte, its always an explosion of flavors in the mouth.
Varied buffet, delicious, pleasant restaurant, impeccable service
Really very very good...
Menu isnt timely available when buffet is, buffet is overpriced (80$ plus tip for 2 adult and a kid?) and has little to no vegetarian options. Price for kids is expensive as well. Sad because the regular menu makes sense and the food was pretty good.
Authentic traditional Indian cuisine. Delicious buffet. Their dahl soup is my favorite soup!
Delicious!
Dont go there! Its expensive and the buffet has almost nothing to offer? Its an insult to Indian cuisine.... As a bonus your clothes smell like frying when you go out!!! Really bad!
Great food.. great people .. go there every Friday.. always the same amazing quality
A delicious little Indian buffet and the staff is super friendly! Make a reservation if you want a place on Friday evening.
Excellent !!!
Super good and great atmosphere! On the other hand, if you dont like spicy, this is not your place very nice experience!
Always super good...
3 stars just for the services.
Succulent, tasty! It was in this restaurant that I discovered Indian food! I love it!
A small intimate gem of a restaurant with a delicious buffet.
The oldest Indian cuisine restaurant in the eastern cantons. The food is excellent and authentic. Its always fresh and when you request a take-out menu, it is prepared exactly at the time requested. On Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening there is a small buffet which allows us to taste different dishes. You will step out of your comfort zone and your taste buds will travel...
Food was fantastic.
Wonderful experience in Lennoxville! The service is impeccable and the food is delicious. The atmosphere is sureal. The choice of music and the colors will just complete your experience! Highly recommended!
Very good Good quality for food.
Always good with good service!
Great presentation suits for local people who prefer to try Indian style food
