I just wanted to give a massive shout out to whoever the manager *and staff!* was on duty Saturday night! They were attentive and went above and beyond for us due to an allergy. I also work in the food industry (owner/chef) and understand how hard it can be to accommodate. My mom placed an order for us and let them know (for my order) there was a bell pepper allergy. I was working a shift in Brantford at the time and didn't have a chance to look over the menu in full. After mentioning the allergy, they recognized that there were peppers in the marinara sauce and made a phone call explaining this to my mom. It could have been a really rough night had this not been caught! My food was delicious without the sauce, perfect portion, and the shrimp was deliciously prepared! Thank-you so, so much!
The service here is pretty friendly. I thought the menu was priced high; however, as you wait, you'll be served breads and salad, so you'll be stuffed before your food even arrives. And the portions are huge, which is excellent if you enjoy leftovers for lunch. The menu is quite large as well. It's a good family dining experience. Pictured is the Tuscan Chicken.
I've visited Barrel Restaurant a handful of times over the years...first time probably 30 years ago. Always been an above average experience. Picked up a large pizza today and was not disappointed. Very delicious - fresh and ample toppings and prepared promptly. Also had the mozzarella sticks, they were quite good as well.
The best Italian food I’ve had in awhile. Everything was perfect The service was attentive. Can’t wait to go back
Pleasant surprise. Seems pricey for the area but the amount of food you get is enough for two days and the taste is pretty dam good. When I am in town again I'll be sure to be back. See you next summer!
First time purchase. Service and order placement was great! We ordered a medium Hawaiian and a large Vegetarian pizza. The Hawaiian was lacking pizza sauce, but toppings were abundant other than that. Key for us in a Hawaiian is always the balance taste of pizza sauce / pineapple / and cheese. The Vegetarian was pretty good. Good balance of toppings - onion, green peppers, mushroom, green olives and tomatoe slices. Overall, the pizzas were pretty good, but a tad pricey.
Last time we enjoyed the food. This time the salads had more flavour. I had ravioli chicken with mushrooms it was not bad. Husband complained to me and also when asked mumble something like not really. When ask did u enjoy it.
A nice family style restaurant. Great for large groups. Portions are very generous. The pasta dishes will easily satisfy two if you like share. The menu is pretty extensive and you can find someting for anyone. It is a family restaurant. The food is consistly good.
Fantastic food, great service, and a terrific atmosphere! Will definitely return!
Delicious food, friendly staff, great atmosphere. Good selection of vegetarian options. I would definitely come back again when Im in the area next.
Interestingly, I found the baked cheese ravioli too cheesy. Very Chewie. The split pea and ham soup was very good A group of us were there on December 18.
A meal fit for Colonel John Graves Simcoe himself. I had the chicken Lombardy, and it was delicious. Im no connoisseur, but I am a Canadian born citizen and have the right to review any Canadian restaurant I please. Needs a little salt though . 4.99 stars!
Wheelchair accessibility: It is wheelchair accessible. Best to make a reservation as the restaurant has 2 levels. Food
Good service and tasty food, thats why I gave it a 4 star. The downside: way too expensive for pasta.
Excellent gluten free options. Delicious food and an extensive menu. We were a group of 6 and everyone enjoyed the food and service. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free pasta. Shrimp carbonara was great.
I go to the Barrel regularly for a great meal, service and atmosphere.
Never been before had pasta with tomato source and added Italian sausage my wife had same with prawns. Soup was the starter both tasted great with adequate portions. Server very nice and helpful.
Had a nice dinner here with my Mom for her birthday. The food was really good but the only thing I will say for the cost that you pay it is a bit expensive. For 3 meals was over $100. Service was amazing! Even though it was busy, we were served very quickly and didnt wait long for our food, so that was impressive. Will come back for another special occasion.
Good food+Good people= Great place.
I really enjoyed the food and the environment. Everything was awesome. Vegetarian options: Have vegetarian options. Dietary restrictions: Provide gluten free option too.
We really enjoy the food and service at Barrel. We have been here many times over the years. Great Caesar salad and pizza. The servers are friendly and the portions are very good. Prices are slightly high but competitive to other restaurants when you consider the portions they serve. This is in my top three favourite restaurants in Simcoe, if not my #1 choice.
We ordered 2 panzerotti Canadian one had lost of ingredients the other one had just a little bit if I just wanted douch I you have ordered bread I will never order from there again that was a ripe off
Not one bad dish here. I ve tried most. The pizza and wings are mid week treat. The pasta is sit down and enjoy the meal with apps. Cozy, clean and wait staff are excellent!
Staff were friendly. Pizza was not good.
Amazing service and food.
I had the Stuff Chicken Marsala. It was very delicious
We had a work dinner with 12 people and the service was great!
Overall a good meal! The fettuccini carbonara was great (not like authentic carbonara but delicious nonetheless) and the chicken parm was obviously very fresh! So yummy! The pastas came with soup or salad which was nice. My only feedback was I found it a little pricey particularly the appetizers. Super casual spots Overall, an evening well spent
Absolutely delicious food. Amazing service. Good prices Vegetarian options: Lots of salad and their squash soup was delicious... Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options.
I dont get to simcoe much anymore but its nice when I do and have time to eat at my favorite place in simcoe. The food is always excellent and this time I was privileged to be served by the lovely Lorraine whose smiling face and attentive nature put an extra sparkle on my visit!
The Mozzarella sticks are to die for!!! A must try!!! Impeccable service and always so helpful with a smile. Staff is amazing!!
Servicewas good. Food was bland. Can make better at home.
Appetizers are outrageously price. 4 Arancini should not be in the area of $25. The food is good but give me a break. Food
good food. inflation hit these guys hard apparently. small portions, big prices
Recently visited for a birthday celebration and had a great time and meal! Ordered the chicken Parm and bruschetta appetizer and both were enormous portions and greatly enjoyed the first and second time around
Great place for dinner with amazing food and friendly, excellent service.
Although it s a good environment and most of the staff is amazing the server we had today was rude. Food wasn t prepared to my liking. And server didn t listen to requests of stuff being removed. And seemed miserable
Very poor customer service. Rude and unwelcoming. Food is also mediocre and over priced.
The best restaurant in Simcoe.
First time eating here, went as a family gathering for my fiances 25th birthday, food was great, everyone was happy, for sure a memorable experience
What a gem in Simcoe Ontario. If you havent eaten here, you gotta eat here. Best Italian food ever!
Relaxed and casual atmosphere which is perfect for after spending day at Long Point beach. Friendly and attentive staff adds that something special that is missing from most restaurants these days - they make you feel like theyre actually happy to have you as a customer. Menu is mainly Italian fare, with a few other options available. Have only been a few times but havent been disappointed with anything ordered. Generous portions in terms of apps and mains. Unfortunately have been too full to try dessert, . Hopefully the next time Ill save some room..., there will definitely be a next time! Definitely recommend, definitely returning.
Everything was wonderful!
Way too expensive gpr what you get.
This is a middle of the road family spot for pizza and pasta. The staff are always great.
Wheelchair accessibility: 3 to 5 handicapped parking spots out front. The area for wheelchairs is good in restaurant. Food
Good experience. Solid food
A wonderful restaurant. You will not find better in the area.
The pasta had a lot of potential with the ingredients but looked like it wasn t drained fully from the water it was cooked in. Also very bland. The atmosphere wasn t like a classic Italian restaurant, more like a chain restaurant but still decent.
Great food was in the past and the coffee was very weak.. The pizza was tasteless
This place is always great! Food is hot and fresh. Prices are reasonable, and family meals are available. Love the baked spaghetti. Kid-friendliness: Family meal deals are available.
I have eaten here a few times and have had a wonderful meal every time. The salads and other Italian goodies are great but the pizza is truly excellent. Best pizza Ive had in years and does not skimp on flavor or toppings! Food : 5/5
Absolutely incredible! My daughter wanted pizza and pasta for her birthday outing so we drove the hour to Simcoe to try The Barrell and we were NOT disappointed! She had the most amazing time there, the food was INCREDIBLE!!!! The servers were PHENOMENAL!!! She wanted everyone to know it was her birthday lol and these servers went above and beyond to make her special. Look at the smile on her face thank you to every single server who worked tonight! She has not stopped talking about each and everyone of you and a special thanks to the hostess and our server who went above and beyond to make her feel special. The hostess birthday is on Tuesday and the server went above and beyond to make sure my daughter was recognized! Much love and appreciation to everyone at the Barrell we will be back!
We have been visiting The Barrel for nearly twenty years, whenever we pass through Simcoe or visit the Norfolk County Fair. The food and service is always top notch! If youre ever craving Mediterranean cuisine (Italian and Greek) then I highly recommend eating here, I promise you wont be disappointed. Huge thanks to the staff and management for always an awesome experience!
Went for lunch today to meet with a friend from Woodstock!!! What a wonderful surprise to find the special of the day was a new, steak sandwich with sautéed onions and mushrooms on well toasted garlic bread, fries and salad. Let me tell you, it was fabulous! Fingers crossed that they will be a regular menu item! You never disappoint Simcoe Barrel! Thanks Nick!
The Barrel never disappoints! My go to favorite is the house salad and their delicious Fettuccine Carbonara. Served with delicious fresh baked buns! Food
Great food, nice enough place. But it was very busy and loud.I guess thats a good thing for the owners.Busy I mean Food
A favorite place for many years. Great food and service. The house salad is amazing...and the pasta dishes are sooooo good. Never an issue here.
Food was very salty
My wife and I were here for the first time having dinner and we really enjoyed it. Thanks to the waitress with pointing out some of the popular dishes to try. We will be back.
As a native Italian, if youre looking for authentic Italian food, I suggest looking elsewhere. The spaghetti with meatballs looked terrible. If you avoid the Italian-ish dishes, you should be fine. I had fish, and it was good, accompanied by vegetables that were also good. One last thing: the menu is about a million pages long, which usually makes me think that the ingredients arent the freshest, but thats just an indication. The service was polite, but my glass of water came with the bill.
A classic family restaurant for Italian food. Everything was cooked and plated well. Prices are on the high side but everything tasted great!
Very good food, great service.
Had the spaghetti, it was ok. Salad was good, the garlic sticks are delicious. My friend quite enjoyed her spinach salad. Our server was very nice. Vegetarian options: There are a few things. Salads, eggplant Parmigiana, veggie sandwich, nachos etc.
This place surprised us with the price point! This is a decent place to eat. You get a well-balanced meal, mostly served with salad and buns. Once you add a couple alcoholic beverages, the cost does climb. Aside from that, we are fans! Parking: The lot is tight to get around in, and the restaurant is probably full if the lot is.
Had meatball sandwich on a ciabatta bun that was toasted and it was delicious !!! The service we had was amazing, so friendly and served quickly. Had an icecream on heated apple pastry for dessert that was a nice finish to the meal. Wish had a picture of sandwich but got into it too fast.
It was amazing pizza. I love it
We had a great experience. Our waitress Ashley was top notch. She was friendly and made our experience great. The appetizers came out for 6 people all at the same time. Our dinners all came out again at the same time and all hot. Kudos to the kitchen for making that happen. As well to the rest of the wait staff who helped bring everything out. The food was excactly as described and tasted awesome. The portions were generous. I would recommend this place if youre looking for a good Italian restaurant in the Simcoe area.
Been coming to Barrel twice a month for close to 20 years as its been a staple in Simcoe for quality food. Unfortunately, this is not the case anymore. Not sure if they have new management, but they need to give their heads a shake. The portions are the definition of rip off now and the pizza, which I used to really enjoy, has fallen off a cliff. Really sad to see it go downhill.
Excellent food. Recomend anytime. We will come again. Wheelchair accessibility: No automatic doors, but level entrance. Food : 5/5 |
The Barrel has been a staple in Simcoe for quite a long time and a consistently popular restaurant for good reason. The food is always fantastic, service is great too, they have really good specials on a frequent basis, (I wish they would make the chicken Lombardi a regular dish!). It can be a bit pricy for some items, but the quality of food holds up and for the most part so does the portion sizes although we started noticing they have gotten a bit smaller for some items and heard this from others too. We visit here often and will continue to do so, if I could suggest anything, it would be to improve the bread/buns they serve with dinner. If they changed them to be similar to the garlic breadsticks they serve with the salads that would be a much appreciated improvement. All in all, definitely recommend!
Service was excellent, the food was very good and the atmosphere upbeat. Great experience!
Valentines Day visit covid-19 had to wait a little longer than normal but still good food .. first visit since covid our waitress Rose was excellent great sense of humor meal was great enjoyed ourselves.
Excellent food always great as always very busy service fast an food came out quick servers very friendly
Had a great meal with my son. Brenda our waitress was very attentive, friendly with a terrific smile. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone.
We love going here when we are in Simcoe. Great portions and not too pricey
Pretty good Italian style food with a great atmosphere. The food was delicious
Awesome & tasteful dinner.
Upscale food in a casual dining atmosphere. Great waitress! Cleaned our plates! Yummy! Will definitely be back!
Great food! My parents recommended we go here, so I have to say, I had my doubts .. but wow, every single dish at the table was rave-worthy. And local beer to boot.
1st time and excellent menu and quality food. If we relocate in Simcoe will return. Thanks Brenda.
Good place to eat
Service a little slow. And expensive. Good food but expensive.
This was a very good Italian restaurant we stumbled upon on our way back from the lake! Food was good, they had an amazing marinara sauce and the dishes tasted right. Will definitely come back if we are in the area again :)
Best wings Ive had in a while.
Fast and friendly staff, food was tasty and pizza was humungus .
House salad was good, pasta was ok,decentflavorbut a little dry. Waitress was great and it was quite busy.
It was great
Very expensive for mediocre food. Service was good. Nice atmosphere.
It was a Saturday. It was very busy. Service was still great. Food was excellent nice and hot and even even saying happy birthday.
Mr Phil Ogden was extremely helpful. Great experience.
Loved the homemade meatballs n sauce...soooo tasty! Kid-friendliness: 5 month old baby was welcomed by 2 waitresses with smiles n friendly atmosphere. Wheelchair accessibility: A large portion of main dining room is wheelchair accessible.
The restaurant is super cute, with terrific ambience, and the staff were lovely. The food, however, was terrible. I ordered the Veal Parmigiano sandwich, and the meat was so tough I had to saw it into tiny bite-size pieces because I actually couldnt bite through it. The sandwich was also entirely tasteless, and had very little marinara sauce or cheese. The Caesar salad was actually worse than the sandwich, which was surprising because thats generally a safe bet; the dressing was somehow watery, and also tasteless. When I let the server know how bad the meal had been, she informed me that the veal was often hit or miss and could be like shoe leather (her words). She informed me to come back and try something else, and I had to let her know that I would likely never be back. Anyway, it was $25 for the most inedible sandwich Ive seen in my adult life. The restaurant is super cute, but not cute enough to make up for that sandwich.
Great food, good value for your money.
Got Barrel Fettuccini takeout for dinner. Service was good and wait time was short. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. The pasta came with a bun, both tasted good. The price was okay, although on the slightly more expensive side, $20 for an average portion. Also they did not include utensils, but to be fair I did not explicitly ask for them. The fettuccini was a pretty classic Alfredo ham and mushroom pasta. Good sauce, abundant ham and mushroom, and pasta tasted just right. The only down side was that there was a small piece of bone in my pasta. Fortunately I was not chewing too hard! Overall good experience, and perhaps I will try something else on the menu next time!
We get dinner from here on a regular basis. If you want amazing pizza or pasta/spaghetti dishes this is your place! Waitresses and hostesses have always been very cheery and kind. Take out or dine in, you wont be disappointed ^_^
Good and simple Italian dishes for your daily fix. Service was good and the food/bread was fresh. Only thing that was average which I ordered was the Iced Coffee.
Was our first time eating here, absolutely loved it. Had the brushetta bread and ordered another it was so delicious. Also had the Greek chicken salad which had so many fresh vegetables and a lovely chicken breast. Will definitely go back.
Very good lunch sandwich ,frozen fries were so so
Was there 2 days in a row. Both servers, Kim and Emily were very friendly. Food was great, nice portions and very tasty. Kudos to the kitchen as well...hot, delicious and very quick.
Very good service n food will be back,!!
This place is the best. Fresh bread, pleasant wait staff and a warm atmosphere. Try the Caesar salad and the Italian platter.
Enjoy the food and service for 1st time going there. I recommend.
Been going to the Barrel for years and they dont disappoint. Always good food at a reasonable price. Live in a small city and with all the popular restaurants near me , I will travel 45 minutes away to this establishment. We have even traveled there for take-out. Love this place.
It was my brothers birthday and it was great he got a birthday dessert and a bunch of the waitresses sang a birthday song Food
We stopped in after a hockey tournament in Delhi and it was amazing. Our first time there. Service was quick for how busy it was. Easy to sit and eat. Loved it and will definitely be back
Excellent value; salad or soup comes with the meal (no extra charge). Superb service; never once have we been disappointed. Parking: Lots of free parking. One step (or small ramp) from the parking lot into the restaurant. )
This place is a gem. Great food and authentic atmosphere.
Quiet little restaurant, although the day we went, we sat in corner closest to kitchen and we heard banging over and over, when we questioned they said it was probably the machine making dough. If you have a sensitivity to sound, do not sit in the corner along the kitchen. I ordered the spaghetti, it is as expected and tastes fresh. Meatballs were undercooked for the 2nd time Ive ordered them. So I wont be getting them again. Reasonably priced.
Year after year, this restaurant is the best
Pizza was awesome, but the ceaser said it was not their best this time round.
Best pizza in Norfolk
We went to this restaurant at about 745 or 8 pm we only weighted about 15 mins for a table with no reservations The Bread is delicious especially the bread with your salad! I didn t love that I had to cut me own tomatoes as they were halves Good portion for prices and your salads come with your mains We had a very long wait between the mains and being asked it we wanted dessert .the restaurant was busy and it was getting to the end of the night The cheesecake was amazing tho for an amazing price Overall a good time with my partner!
I absolutely love eating at this restaurant!
Eggplant parm was delicious! Vegetarian options: Lots to choose from Recommended dishes Eggplant Parmesan
Good food , large portions.
Good service and great food
Vegetarian options: Good collection of non vegetarian & vegetarian options & really good quality food liked food Parking: 20 roughly Kid-friendliness: Good place for kids birthday and family celebrations
Horrible service. We where seated in a very tight corner table, then we waited for over 30 min withought even being asked if we would like a glass of water. When we finaly decided to leave and told them why all we got in return was sorry we must not have noticed you. This was in November, we where really disappointed after hearing so many good things from friends.
The best Pizza I have ever had just simply delicious !!!
Always love to come here if Im in the area visiting friends. Yummy food!
The service was good and the food was good, lunch size had enough for two meals. Good value for fresh made food.
Food here was great and the service was spectacular. Our waitress was amazing and very helpful.
Our sever April was awesome and so were the other staff... the food, the menu, everything about this place deserves 5
I had a grilled vegetable and cheese sandwich and a salad. It was a large sandwich on crusty bread. I only ate 1/2 at lunch and had the balance for my dinner. It was still delicious later. Parking: Large lot at the rear of the building as well.
Staff were pleasant and food was great! Food
A boysterous and lively place. Come early on the weekend for seats (or call ahead for reservations). Similar to East Side Marios but more authentic. Plentiful servings. But fair warning - they really pack people in here at times, so if you like your space you might want to try at a less busy time of the week than a Saturday night.
Great staff.. great food... great price..
Every time I go here, the food is delicious. People are friendly and efficient.
Met two friends . The menu was hard to choose from--many great choices. I had the veal Parmigiano. It was outstanding.
Really large portions.. like HUGE! Super generous with their food, and its pretty good, too. The salad or soup before your main can really fill you up, so Id recommend splitting a main for a lighter dinner. The mediterranean pasta was just so so, but Id recommend any of the other pasta. And free bread sticks! A good bang for your buck. Vegetarian options: Lots of vegetarian options on the menu.
Would have been nice of the owner to acknowledge patrons as they were entering and leaving instead of doing accounting at the bar at the entranceway, gives the impression that the numbers are all that matters! Thankfully he has friendly staff....
Last week -Saturday September 30- we visited The Barrel. Always looked forward to a nice meal. Very disappointed this time. At first we choose an item from their lunch menu..oops..not available on the weekend. Checked to see difference in price for pizza and salad. Weekend price for the same thing was MUCH higher. I decided to have a chicken wrap. I received a wrap loosely stuffed with romaine and a few chunks of overcooked chicken. Very little dressing. Meal also came with soup which did not live up to the standard of soup I had enjoyed previously. Another member of our group ordered chicken wings sauce on the side. First order..waitress caught before serving..sauce was on the wings..she reordered. When the order did arrive the wings were over cooked so dark and crispy the meat was dry. Reordered same with the next order. The other 2 in the group did enjoy their meals. Our waitress..Kim was very pleasant and tried to be accommodating. What has happened??? Was there a new cook? ******I was in contact with Nick who reviewed my issues. He was very concerned about making things right. He plans to review the issues with the kitchen staff to make sure the food is correctly prepared. Nick has given me a credit unknown as to what it is until we visit The Barrel the next time! So happy to see that this restaurant owner cares and has taken action. Also happy that The Barrel is considerate of working people and gives them a break on their lunch costs during the week. If you want a break on meals .weekdays are the best time to visit!
Great food I got the Panzerotti and maaaan was I surprised it was so full of pepperoni and cheese ! One negative tho , the soup was really peppery . But I would definitely recommend the panzerotti 8/10
Great place to eat. Service is wonderful
The food was excellent
Meal and service was great.
Great food from start to finish. Great service as well!!
We were playing mini golf in the area and stopped here for dinner. Service, and food both quite good. The restaurant was full which is great for the restaurant, but can affect the atmosphere. All depends on what you like.
Great service, fabulous food and wonderful atmosphere. When in Simcoe, make sure to check out The Barrel!
Food was very good. Server very attentive.
Food was awesome and our server Kayla Y was probably one of the best servers we have ever had, she was quick, always on her toes, never left us waiting long even though they were very busy and made our stay delightful, I would highly recommend this restaurant for the food and service.... Thank You Barrel staff
Good food, good portions, great service
Would go again
Always a great meal.
We really enjoyed our meal and the service was excellent as well. Will definitely be going back
The food use to be really good but its loosing the flare it use to have, sometimes its just very bland tasting
Food was amazing! Server was friendly and personable. Atmosphere could use an update, but still has a nice Italian vibe
Always good
This establishment uses a different recipe for their food, which makes it unique and one of a kind. You gotta try it!
I was visiting from out of town and was so impressed with everything from the service to food quality! Amazing and 5 stars all around. Ill be making more trips out to Simcoe to dine here!
Best Italian food around. Consistently great food, year after year. Food
Amazing food and atmosphere. Our go to for date night.
Great place to eat - very cozy interior, pleasant atmosphere, friendly staff and of course, good food. Their Pina Colada is amazing! I highly recommend this place.
fantastic Italian food, great service, all the staff are top tier. 11/10 visit every week we can
My favorite place to go in Simcoe ... have always had great food & service
Showed up at 4pm Saturday afternoon for dinner for 3 people....they couldnt seat us because they had too many reservations.....very poor planning on their part! I will never go back!
Great place, staff, service and food. Large portions!
The food was excellent the service was fantastic and the atmosphere was nice. Its a good place place to go and eat.
Great food and great service
The food was hot, but it was ordinary. The server was polite and helpful.
Great experience all around
The lunch menu pizza and salad is a great choice. Our waitress took good care of our group of 8. Parking: Handing cap spots out front Wheelchair accessibility: Yes

Brenda was Incredible! Made sure our drinks were always filled and was super nice! love coming here with my family!
Good family restaurant. Extensive menu. We were a table of 12. Attentive staff. Food was nicely hot. A bit pricy now but so is it every where else. Very homey place.
Over all a good restaurant, just feel the prices are a nit high for some items.
Great food and service. Great selection of dishes. It was dinner hour so it was a bit noisy overall. There is lots of seating and they were all occupied. Will definitely go back.
The egg plant parm was excellent, portions were large and the temperature was perfect. Will be back for sure. My wife also enjoyed the chicken tetrazzini.
