Com'on in for the BEST breakfast place in town!
Stopped for a late lunch. Figured I would try something local in Simcoe. The Shire did not disappoint. I enjoyed a world-class Burger accompanied by the shires own Brew which was lovely. Service and atmosphere was great. Quite possibly my new go to when traveling out that way.
We came on Thanksgiving weekend for dinner, and all I can say is WOW. We ordered both the Thanksgiving dinner special and the fish and chips, and both were fabulous. Generous portions of food - real turkey, not slices of turkey loaf, homemade stuffing, gravy and cranberry sauce - chef's kiss! The fish and chips were delicious, again with generous servings of each. This is the most underrated restaurant, and a wonderful surprise. So happy we came here for dinner.
We popped in because we liked the name and we very satisfied with our experience. Portions were a good size (we left full) and tasty, service was prompt, clean, not loud so conversation could be had. I would recommend.
Very nice location. Once entered the establishment we were greeted immediately and given a table. I got the featured special of ribs with potato and veggie. I also got the soup of the day and it was fantastic and amazing portion. Also got their In house beer. The ribs were slow cooked and fell off the bone. The portions were very good size. Overall I was left impressed with my service.
I had the French onion soup, which tasted weird and needed more cheese. My friends had the taco salad, steak and several other things on the menu. The steak was good but everything else was mediocre. There was also no drink menu and our waiter didn't know what was on tap. The decor is dated and the restaurant was lacking. I don't think I'll go back.
I have to update my review now. I went for supper and it was a not a good experience. I had the chicken penne and it was like bad Mac and cheese with the chicken was like the stuff from the pre packaged cooked chicken pieces at the store, and the garlic toast I think was that Texas toast garlic bread from the bag that you put in the toaster. The person that accompanied me had the spaghetti and meat balls. Was likened to the chef boyardee canned spaghetti and also the toaster garlic bread. I don't think I'll be back. Not sure what changed from last year.
A very cozy place. My partner and I came here after an unfortunate afternoon at Service Ontario and it lifted our spirits. It’s a diner with home style food, and although there are no obvious accommodations for gluten free individuals, I was able to request that my benny not have any bread. It was very tasty. My partner got the french onion soup and caesar salad. Our server was very nice. I liked that the booths were large and the restaurant itself was spacious. There are hints of decor that remind you of the shire.
I was really pleasantly surprised how good the food was. The restaurant is inside the hotel but it sure didn’t disappoint me. I had steak and wings with a Caesar salad. The steak was cooked perfectly and the cut was good. The wings were tasty. The service was attentive and quick. The food arrived quickly. The patio was in direct sunlight and they had one umbrella which the server placed to shade us from the sun. It was very good service. I would recommend this place.
Never disappoints!
Would go again Potato skins were awesome bit heavy - still a favorite Kimchi fried rice with sour cream and light soya sauce (or regular) was really good
Food is reasonably priced, comes fast and is delicious! The fried pickles are one of our favourite apps!
Good food, service was little slow Kid-friendliness: Had a good kids menu. Portion were big. Food : 4/5 |
Great experience!! Great food!! Great service!
This restaurant was cozy with great food, and great service!
Very poor food. The worst Montreal smoked meat sandwich I have ever eaten. The fish and chips were horrible. The batter was very thick. It was our first time here and last. Very disappointed!
Friendly service and great food, good portions and fair prices
Cool little spot. Its shared with a travel lodge hotel. The restaurant space is a little outdated, but I think thats what makes up the charm. Food is good portions, coffee is decent, and theyre fast.
This is a welcoming restaurant everyone is super nice, the food is nothing to write home about, but it s not bad, it is attached to the hotel and that nice and convenient
Good breakfast love the home fries!
Good service free parking.
The service here was excellent and the atmosphere charming.
Highly recommended
I truly enjoyed my meal.
i love this place
Friendly staff, food was good. Portions sizes are good for what you paid for.
Food was delicious. Service was top notch!
Great place to eat and everyone is very friendly. Highly recommend it to anyone.
my spot for a trad breakfast
Portions good. Restaurant dirty. Service just ok
Great breakfast place.Friendly and attentive staff.
I had a chicken caesar wrap. Portions are generous, food was good, no complaints.
Great breakfast! Their omelettes are fabulous! Service is good. Love the atmosphere
This is my first time visiting The Shire, but it wont be my last. Their service was lovely, very friendly and kind. I was out on my own, and some places dont handle solo diners well. Thankfully, they were lovely. The food was very good. Ceasar salad was simple but crisp and good. I had the smoke meat sandwich with fries. You can tell a lot about a place by their fries. These fries were the perfect ratio of crispy outside to fluffy inside. Delicious. Gravy was a tough saltier than I like, but its still good flavor. Sandwich was VERY good and very filling. Lots of smoked meat. Overall, will visit again.
Had a great little lunch here yesterday after exploring some lavender fields. Got a ton of food for the money and the service was fantastic.
Decent breakfast option, however very small portion sizes, and overpriced for the basic breakfast. The restaurant had a faint hint of bleach, perhaps from mopping the floors first thing in the morning. Coffee wasnt great. If youre stuck for options this isnt a bad place to stop however I wouldnt go out of my way to eat here.
Onion rings with dip were amazing. Wheelchair accessibility: Main floor, no stairs Food : 5/5 |
Fish and chips. The bater was hard and fish was a little dried out. Fries were good.
Service, meal, atmosphere and price were all first class. A great hidden gem within the Travelodge. Fish and chips. The best. Recommend !!
Xaroula was amazing. We showed up unannounced with 31 people. They sat and served us so fast. The food came out quick and it was delicious.
Hats off to Xaroula, we came from the hotel with a large baseball team. And they welcomed us unexpectedly. Our server Xaroula was amazing! Half our group were kids and she dealt with us very quickly. Also shoutout to the kitchen too. Food was delicious and came super quick! Thanks everyone from the Tara Twins
The Shire is the best! Great food with reasonable prices. The waitresses are very friendly and speedy. With the food being great thanks to the cooks too. Great restaurants are due to great staff.
Wonderful establishment. Menu is extensive and the food is fantastic. But I was incredibly impressed by their staff member Tania. :) Her customer service was top notch and to say the very least memorable!!! Great atmosphere...ty
Great good, great service. Best restaurant in town.
Very good food at a very good price!
Super, delicious food and great service.
The Salmon Eggs Benny was fantastic!
Good fish and chips. Large portions.
No service, no orders taken, one person running the whole restaurant
We love Amy at The Shire. Quite possibly the sweetest and friendliest waitress we ve ever had. She provides excellent customer service and the dining experience is always top notch when she s there. Thanks Amy!
Food and service were great! Fast and the service was efficient. I will be back with the family! Kid-friendliness: Great for kids!
Enjoyed our breakfast. Would stop again when passing through.
I had all day breakfast here, sunset special. Home fries and pancakes were great.
Great Breakfast! Friendly waitress.
Our sever was so friendly - and the carafe of coffee hit the spot. Good fish and chips
Good food, looking forward to going back for dinner next time that we are in town. Wheelchair accessibility: Flat entrance and the automatic doors work.
The food was good. Service was fast and friendly
Great staff, great food.
Tonight, we tried the Fish and Chips entree for take-out. We can honestly say it was the best fish and chips we have ever had. It came with fresh coleslaw, tartar sauce, and lemon slices. The fish was delicious, fresh, tender, moist, thick, dense, and was a very generous size. It had a perfect breading to fish ratio. The breading was beautifully crisp and cooked to a nice golden brown. It was not overly greasy at all. The fries were delicious and crispy. We absolutely will be ordering this again.
It was a very nice place with excellent food and service.
Such a great place to take my kids for breakfast! Our waitress was so good with making sure our order was in quickly and out haha as we all know kids are impatient. definitely will be back. Thank you food was amazing.
We came from 2 hours away today and decided to try out the Shore restaurant for lunch due to the reviews and pictures on the web site. We arrived at 1:15pm for lunch and were told that they are only serving breakfast???? What kind of place does that on Saturday? What a let down. The management needs to adjust their times or lose business.
Breakfast omelet was great, good portions, not a fan of the hashbrowns
Great food at a reasonable price. One of the best burgers and fries around, hands down. The service is great and best of all, a quiet and relaxing atmosphere.
Steak was excellent.
Food was fresh and hot, service was really great. Didnt take photos, was too hungry, but for sure next time.
Our waitress was pleasant and efficient. She checked in with us a few times to make sure we were enjoying our meal and if we needed anything else. It was a very busy morning in the restaurant, and she handled it like a pro.
Could easily have made a meal out of the sweet cheese wontons and the yakitori chicken skewers. Added a half rack of ribs and everything was cooked perfectly with just the right amount of seasoning. Service was perfectly timed with our mains arriving after we finished our appetizers. Attentive and professional from start to finish.
Steak sandwich and fries are really good. The liver and onions was a big nope.
My favourite hashbrowns! Nice and crispy. Busy place, great when you can get a seat...
I was in town on a job and ate here twice... everything we had was phenomenal from the apps to the mains. The beer selection is also really good for a smaller place.
Food is pretty good. Service is good. Dark oak interior has an old style feel. Matches the name, The Shire.
very nice clean and beautiful place. Enjoyed with my family here
I ate breakfast there for the first time. I got cajan polish sausage benny. As a chef It was incredible
Brought 18 Kids and 14 Adults from a hockey tournament without reservations. Took great care of us without blinking an eye. Food was quick and very good, staff (Shari the Server - most experienced) was amazing - true pro. We will be back. Kid-friendliness: Great atmosphere
Beautiful restaurant, delicious food and great service
Never been to this hidden gem. Definitely coming back again. If you are looking for a great little breakfast or lunch, go here. You wont be disappointed. Coming back again in the summer when I camp locally!
Come with an empty stomach. And there may be a lineup to get in. Had no problems with substitutions with our orders. Lots of variety of eggs, sausage, bacon, pancakes, french toast, and the list goes on. Give it a try!
Good service, good food and good craft beer. Includes all day breakfasts and endless cup of coffee.
Better than most average chain pubs. Good burger, great Yorkie bowl.
Great food, great service. Casua dining, relaxed atmosphere
Great little place for all meals. The French fries are fantastic. The gravy could and should be sold by the gallon! I had the club sandwich, it made me happy.
Shire breakfast is my favorite. I work 12h shifts at the hospital and I always stop at least once on my rotation after a night shift for some awesome breakfast. Sometimes I stop after both night shifts.
Always good
How far this place has fallen. Used to come to The Shire all the time, but ever since the new owner took over, it has been slowly going down hill. The only thing going for it is breakfast, which seems to be fairly consistent. I went for dinner with a small group of friends on a quiet Wednesday night, the modifiers on our orders were ignored, and 12 minutes passed from when the first person got their meal, to when the last person did. Let me add that we also waited for 35 minutes before our food STARTED coming out. There were only 3 other tables in the restaurant. I ordered a burger which was burnt, and the fries looked like they had been refried at least 4 times as they were very dark and over saturated. Our server looked embarrassed and was very apologetic. Service was top notch, food quality lacked care. TL;DR - go for breakfast, go elsewhere for dinner.
I had a classic BLT with home fries. The sandwich was delicious and the home fries were perfect. Our server, Zoey, was a breath of fresh air. Such a sweet girl and will be back again in hopes of having her as a server!! :)
Awesome food, great atmosphere, and the service is excellent. Best home fries in all of Simcoe
Had the fish and chips they were amazing. Prices are good the staff and service are amazing
We eat breakfast here at least once a month and are never disappointed. Such great service and the food is almost top notch. Would recommend to anyone wanting a good breakfast or dinner spot in Simcoe.
Have eaten a few times and the food is always good
Excellent breakfast service was excellent Kid-friendliness: Kid friendly menu Food : 5/5 |
Always excellent food, friendly and quick service. The omelets and breakfast wrap are big enough portions to keep my plus size frame full for most of the day lol. Have yet to try more of the menu but I look forward to it. My wife appreciates that there is gluten free toast available with her food as well.
The food was delicious but the service was quite okay
If you are in Simcoe....go to this place!
My favorite place to go for breakfast
Love their caeser drink, Friendly staff, easy pick up place, i dined in 4 times once it was great..3 times i ordered a pound of wings, flats only with sauce on the side. First time trying wings, they were cold and barely cooked. 2 more times i tried to simplify my order and waited over 40 minutes to get complety the opposite..the cook tried to argue with the waitress and blame her because he couldnt figure out the easy order. He was ignorant and i ended up drinkin my drink and getting wrong wings i gave away. Never been back Parking: Parking is never a problem the cook was Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair accessible
Was very good food but service was slow but wait staff were very nice.mthink they were short staffed Vegetarian options: I would think so
We come back regularly because of the food and the amazing servers.
Dietary restrictions: I am siliac they made me my breakfast wrap in lettuce for me ... Food
Unfortunately we can t rate the breakfast food because when we came in to be seated for breakfast, we waited for a couple minutes in the entry where it says to wait, and we were seen but nobody greeted us. After a couple minutes another couple came in (obviously regulars) and were instantly greeted and they talked with the hostess for a few minutes and offered to be seated first while we were still ignored. The people behind us in line were baffled too. We left and went to Wimpys instead. Disappointing as our 3 year old was excited for breakfast There.
Love the unique atmosphere and the all day breakfast!
Great food great service.
Get more staff.
Great food, great service. Would highly recommend going for breakfast as well.
Was here with a group of 6 for breakfast Parking: Easy access and lots of spots Food : 4/5 |
It just hit the spot at a good price (bacon & eggs)
Lousy experience from start. Others were seated but we kept waiting. When we were finally seated, we asked why had we be kept waiting. When the server approached us to take our order, she made a sarcastic remark that it was all about us now. Our food and drink orders were taken. Our drinks arrived in a timely fashion. As I sipped my drink, I found a fly in it. When the food FINALLY arrived, the medium steak was actually well done borderline burnt, and was tough. We over heard a remark being made by a customer existing the restaurant, that her steak was tough, and all we can assume that her steak was over done too.
My partner and I went for dinner last night and the service was terrible. The place was almost empty and the employee (Jenn, I think) made it seem like she was running a marathon. No doubt she was the only employee around attending to the bar, taking orders and handling cash but we received absolutely NO service at all. I asked for a glass of water which NEVER arrived and so I had to sip my partners beer just to quench my thirst. Were tourists and I wouldnt visit this place again.
Staff was pleasant and welcoming. Food was good. Had breakfast.
Great place
Great food and service
We were in last night . My husband ordered chocolate milk ,waitress came back said we are out. Husband had liver and onions with vegetables, wasnt given a choice of potatos. Waitress came back and said sorry we have no vegetables would you like a salad. Got our bill and were charged for the salad. I had chicken quesida and it was very greasy and ingredients falling out. Dont think we will be back for supper any time soon.
Service was great! Food was amazing. We Had pickle spears, battered mushrooms and the burger and fries.
Great food and service. Recommend to everyone
Was there tonight and probably wont be back for quite a while
Awesome food great Mac and cheese for kids great music Great food and awesome staff Need to find a way to make that place more popular Food : 5/5
Great place and delicious food
This was a nice place. Service was awesome The hollandaise was a bit bland, but thats ok. I still ate it all.
Its just a great place to eat! Always stop for breakfast when visiting family in nearby Waterford!
Good food.
An absolute small town gem. This place was recommended by locals for a late breakfast after checking out of a local hotel. Eggs we cooked perfectly, sausage and hashbrowns were crispy. Our server was friendly, professional and quick.
Food was good with great portions. Service was a bit slow, could never find our waitress when we needed something. I get breakfast is all day but dont know why we couldnt get lunch items at lunch time.
Yup.. you seee it.. we had brekfast in here and it was damn.. delicious.. so good.. totally recommended. And the waitress here is super sweet
Wonderful breakfast menu and good price for quality and quantity of food. Great service and calm well kept atmosphere.
Food was palatable. Service was not bad just a bit of a wait to get in. Decor looks like it came out of the 90s. Still functional but well broken in. The noise levels were at least not as bad as a Boston Pizza.
Breakfast was excellent. We were there for a wedding party and would have returned for breakfast the next day except for a small kitchen fire. Glad everyone was OK. Thanks!!!
You dont have to stay at the Travelodge to enjoy this place. Was given a full carafe of coffee so we could help ourselves while we worked our way through a substantial breakfast. Sit-down breakfast of choice for Turkey Point area.
Had fish and chips. The batter was hard and tasted like pancake mix
Always great Breakfast
Great food and service!!
Great food, great service and reasonable price
Good place for breakfast. I enjoyed ourselves
Our server Amy was wonderful any thing we asked for was met with a beautiful smile and instant response. Food was good but it was her service skills and personality that will bring us back.
Love this little hidden gem. You get alot of delicious food for the cost... and I love that they leave the coffee pot at your table!!! The servers are exceptional and very friendly. Food
Went to the shire today they took our order we sat there waited waited waited I asked why peoples food came out before our they said are you done eating I replied you havent even brought our food yet she went back in came out said the food didnt get ordered we left.terrible service will never be back .
Came here with my husband today. 2 tables came in after us and got their food served. We called the waitress to ask wheres our food as weve been waiting for half an hour already. When she came she said all done. What the heck, our food hasnt even serve yet and asking us if all done. When my husband ask her she said she hasnt put the order yet. What the heck does she mean. And the waitress says we dont have to be rude. Hey waitress, we are not being rude. If you do your job right, there will be no complaints like this. Customer satisfaction is your number 1 priority. We left the restaurant DISAPPOINTED!! For sure, well let everyone know about our experience.
Great customer service and such yummy food!!
Amazing, fast service treat u like family, always smiles from the staff , home cooked and very tasty
I loved my experience here. Great food and service is amazing!!!
Super cute and cozy, this is my boyfriend and my go-to place for breakfast on the weekends. Definitely recommend the greek omelette or the waffles but the service keeps us coming back. You can tell the servers really care about doing a good job, plus theyre always very cheerful :)
A group of friends and I came here to eat and the food was exceptional! The staff were all so wonderful and accommodating. Definitely will recommend this to anyone and will be back!
The best!! staff and food were amazing
Best club sandwich Ive had! Onion rings were fresh and tasty!
This is a nice place for breakfast, and serving size is amazing for the cost!! Totally love it,will return if I am ever in Simcoe again.
All our food looked and tasted veey good. Fish and chips were the best of all..Also, quesadilla was delicious, beef dip, omelet, and pancakes as well. They served breakfast till 2 pm. Service was good. Nice little place. Recommended
Great breakfast, a little bit expensive but, this being said...their food has never disappointed.
Waitress was fantastic. But we waited an hour from the time we ordered until we got our food. 4 tables of customers who came in after we ordered were served and gone before we got our omelets and pancakes. Very disappointed
DO NOT EAT HERE, had terrible service and the owner did not even care to listen , just wanted me to pay the bill and leave..Been going here for years.. I will never be back!!!!
The waitress was very accommodating. My sister and I wanted to share an Eggs Benny and she said no a problem. As seniors a big breakfast like that was a bit much so we decided to share. It was delicious. Thank you.
I ordered liver & onions, based on the recommendation from my server. The liver was overdone & dry while the mashed potatoes were almost runny
This is the third time we were served molded bread for breakfast my granddaughter was enjoying her club house and took left overs home hour later her club sandwich was full of mold wow the other two times were before COVID
It was very delicious food, and the staff were very helpful!
BLT was good. Home fries nice and crispy. Our server was okay. The ambience could use an investment upgrade of the atmosphere.
Very personable. Huge serving sizes. And they found my friends toque with the bobble on top, that he thought he lost!!! Thank you!
