Iconic 60s drive thru with great burgers and ice cream treats.
I've been going here since 1990 i Make a point to eat here once a year this time I ordered the corn fritters. It only had one piece of corn per fritter The burgers don't taste good anymore. It's just going down hill But it used to be One of the best burger joints. But I still like the dips for the ice cream
I love coming here, so much to choose from and everything is 11/10. Some of the best food i have ever had. The place looks so cool it brings me back to when I was a kid, definitely recommend stopping by with the family
I didn't have anything other than ice cream so I cannot make a comment about any of the food they have here. Their ice cream menu was a bit overwhelming (in a good way) and I didn't expect there to be so many options! They were patient with us reading through the menu (we also let anyone who was behind us go ahead while we figured it out) their seating inside is a quite small area, but it is very cool! They also have some benches outside as well as a drive through. This place was somewhere my grandparents used to take my sister and I quite a bit, so it is quite dear to be still coming here. It was nice taking my son and having him enjoy it now. I got the Almond Roca which was absolutely delicious!
So stopped for a bite. The service was amazing. The mozzarella burger was pretty good. I also ordered the chili and corn fritters. There is no corn in them. Maybe that's the was they are made but was disappointed. The chili as you can see was tiny and not full. I couldn't believe they charge $5.99 for it. The chili itself was ok. Would go again just not for the corn fritters or chili.
I enjoyed a great eggs benny at Jack's. Service was good and prices very reasonable. Will be back to sample their burgers and ice cream for sure.
We stopped by because we heard it was delicious! 😋Mozzarella burger, Jack’s special burger, and the corn fritters were really delicious! 👍👍We could enjoy a happy lunch!
I thought this is a bar and restaurant. I always see this when passing by this area. Today we bike around the neighbourhood and personally check this out. It's an ice cream store that is open since 1961 as Thelma said If I am not mistaken. Who worked there for 11 years now. It is a cool place and their burgers and ice cream are delicious. When my partner goes out and it's so windy the hard ice cream fell down. He hehe but they are so nice to replace it without any cost. Appreciated. We enjoyed our stayed and met some of the local kids who loved ice cream. Our first time here, and will definitely come back for more flavoured ice cream. Highly recommended for everyone who is craving for ice cream or burgers.
Grabbed a late night snack from this Jacks Drive in tonight when my Business partner and I were driving around the area and noticed this place from looking out the window! Since I love old school retro places like this I had to stop in! After entering immediately you get hit with the old school nostalgia feeling which is so unique and a great experience for old fashioned folks and us now older generation crowd. The food didn’t disappoint either thank you to Raelene and Riley for providing fun and entertaining service tonight! I had a Nathan’s hot dog with bacon added and my friend ordered a double cheeseburger, my hot dog I enjoyed very much, the quality of the frank was on point and easily devoured within seconds by myself! Loved every minute I spent inside this well done old school establishment! When visiting do try out the free record player machine and play a song from the many vintage album selections!
Great food
love it!
It was alright, I heard I lot of hype going in, and it didnt quite match it, but had I not heard about it agmhead of time it would have been better. Fries were not salty, they needed more.
We got the pierogies as per usual. They must have cooked some jalapenos before they serve the pierogies so they were a bit spicy .
Neat place for being around for so long. Tried the mushroom burger today. Was not even a hot meal. Cold and nasty mushrooms. Could not even finish it. Not sure what the top things are to order. I will pass on this burger and try something else next time.
Food was good cool old feel to the place
Ice cream are so good!
Fantastic little burger shack, there is a reason its always got cars in the Drive through. Great prices.
One of my favorite places in Spruce Grove to enjoy time and good food. The staff are always friendly and willing to help. The best soft ice cream in town.
Extremely thin patties, dry, only 1 side of the bun had condiments.. would not recommend nor will we order again
Great food Excellent service!
Ordered a chicken finger meal. Chicken fingers were good, but the fries were under cooked. They were pale and not crispy. They werent greasy, but they had a stong oil taste.
Typical burger joint food, but the ice cream and milkshakes is where they shine IMO
First time there and would not return as we had the Most Horrible FRIES ever tasted in Canada,, Wow, alot of these 5 Star Reviews must be Spruce Grove family members hyping business up,, theres no way you could be serving white, undercooked fries to customers and receiving 5 Star Reviews... Take this as Positive Constructive Feedback and hopefully you change way of making those Fries.
The food here sucks. Id skip this place. I went here again a couple days ago to see if it has improved, it has not. Low, low quality food products, and super cluttered menus and placement. I really think this is one of the worst places for a burger in the province.
Best burgers in west of Edmonton
Stopped here for lunch on our bikes. Food and milkshakes were fantastic. Great customer service and loved the atmosphere of the place. Highly recommend checking out this cool place.
The only place I know in all of Edmonton and the surrounding area, that I can get a licorice milkshake
Jacks drive in has been a staple to The spruce grove community for years and I have been going here for over 20 years. The go to is the corn fritters, poutine and milkshakes!
The ice cream I had there was larger than what I ordered but it was still good though not up to Jack s standards. I also had a Jack Frost frozen treat last time I was here and it tasted like a worse version of a Dairy Queen Blizzard.
First time here and we were all excited to try it out. What a disappointment. Food arrived with a combo meal astray, wait inside to get it rectified. Was looked at may times without any acknowledgement. When we questioned and received the meal the burger was cold after it had sat on the side. Burgers were cheap and nasty, mushrooms were from a tin and rubbery. To top it off after spending $73 we ended up with upset stomach the next day. I believe that most customers only get the cold items or fries.
For all the years hearing about this pl e it was deeply disappointing - I had eaten here many many years ago and it was what everyone said but I ve tried 2 more times in the last 7 years and disappointed both times very average for the price.
Great service, amazing ice cream. We were super disappointed in the food. Greasy onion rings. White, undercooked fries. Corn fritters with no more than 3 kernels of corn in them....
Great place to stop for a bite and a ice cream.
Cozy Small Town diner loved everything about it
Love this place. Revisited after one year. My kids had milkshakes and ice cream, and I had a burger and poutines. Excellent food!
Perfect little old time drive in diner. Best deep fried dill pickles!
This really must be a nostalgia thing for people. The burgers were terrible. Processed cheese, canned mushrooms, frozen patties that were cooked poorly and buns that really should be toasted/grilled. The shakes are good but it s a pass for me. If you want an uninspired burger this is your place. Update: against my better judgement I tried it again. Got some raw soggy fries, an uncored tomato with a sad cold bun.
Retro 50s diner look inside including juke box.
Been coming here since I was a kid and have never stopped great food and milkshakes
Bison burger was very disappointing, not a bison burger at all, low-grade beef at best, way to greasy and tasteless.. jalapeño fritters might have had 2 shavings of jalapeño, with 2 kernels of corn and the rest just doh. Fountain pop was the best part of the meal. We will go back to try the ice creme at some point, but we are in no rush.
Spruce Burger was AMAZING. Fries were a little underwhelming and definitely need salt. Vanilla milkshake was perfect. Will definitely be back.
Have always enjoyed the food at Jacks. Just yesterday though we ordered couple mushroom cheese burgers. Very yummy, we loved how generous you were with the mushrooms but, waaaay to generous you guys. Very hard to eat and 90% of them were just wasted as we didnt have a fork to eat them after the burger. You could have made 6 burgers with the amount on the two. BUT, it was still very yummy!!
Tis the bliss of a true drive in/thru! One of the very few places that one can get a 32 oz milkshake and still serve butterscotch shakes! Its heaven on earth! Spruce Groves finest treasure!
Really good milkshakes.
Great 50s style diner
Fresh shakes and a burger. Perfect cherry sized to slide through the straw.
Good burger
Delicious milkshakes. Employee went out of her way to find my son the Jacks Dine In sticker that was looking for. Made for a special treat out with the family.
Its a small place but very busy because it is ancient and popular too Chicken burger was tender , juicy and with a hint of salt , corn garlic fritters with blueberry jam were yum fries were fresh and hot but not seasoned Chicken tidbitts werd good my son likes it . Lastly we had icecream with waffle cone and nut topping , roasted coconut and fudge was absolutely amazing love this little cute place , can go if someone like very simple food .
Ordered a breakfast omelette bagel which was good. However they advertise the sandwiches as coming with a free hashbrown when ordered before noon, but neither I, nor my three coworkers received theirs with their order which was not realized until we had left.
the food and ice cream is amazingly good. their burgers are probably the best around, even compared to restaurant ones. highly recommend
The fritters were tasty last time, but this time, tasted like disappointment. The hot dog was better than I anticipated. My kidlette said the chicken wrap was fire and asked why we dont drive here from North Edmonton more often!
Best corn fritters around! Love the shakes.. need to go back again... with friends !!
Had the mushroom burger and the garlic fries. The garlic fries had a horrible taste to them - and I LOVE garlic, so I was very disappointed. The mushroom burger was okay, honestly wouldnt get it again..
The best milkshakes!
jacks drive in was our favorite place many years ago,it still is great!
To expensive
This place is a road trip staple (it makes any drive extra special). Good milkshakes and quick burgers; I like the garlic fries too.
Burger was good, milkshake was good. But it tasted more in the generic side, rather than being different. Still, for the price, I will be come back.
They have the best poutine and milkshakes!
The best dipped cone ever
Almond Roca ice cream!
First time at this restaurant. Im new to Alberta. I love it. The decor was so much fun!! Food was great and the service was friendly and fast.
Peanut butter shake is delicious
Good food fast service
Pregnancy craving satisfied !!!!
Amazing atmosphere! Prices and food quality is very good! Food : 5/5
My grandparents used to go to this place when they were alive. Theyd bring me there saying it was the best food. Their burgers are amazing! Thank you
Great burger
Excellent food
They have the best mushroom burgers and milkshakes. But actually everything on the menu is awesome
Always fabulous.... we had burgers and milkshakes, all perfect
A spruce grove must have But sadly in the last 5 years or so the quality of the food and the service has only a little gone down hill some, but is still pretty great. Update April 2024: food quality, portions and service is back to its good old self! My family and I have made it a tradition for quite a few years now to come here every time I come home from work
It is a tradition! Jacks Drive-in! I had the mushroom burger. It was really good, The Fries are great too. The Garlic Fry is extreme garlic ontop of fries. Not Garlic flavoured fries. There is usually a lineup on nice days and you can wait up to 10-15 minutes for food. But it is worth the wait.
Jacks Drive-in has been a favorite stop for our family since my mom was a kid! My grandparents had a farm west of Spruce Grove and Jacks was a must stop on our way there. They have THE BEST soft serve ice cream I have ever had and it hasnt changed in the 4+ decades our family has been going there. The atmosphere at Jacks, inside and out, always brings smiles. Jacks has a wonderfully full menu that is sure to satisfy any appetite! Jacks is the perfect destination for a Sunday drive and an ice cream and a trip down memory lane...and start making new memories
We heard about Jacks, and we drove from Southeast Edmonton to Spruce Grove to try this place. I have to be honest. It was nothing special. Very doubtful that would would drive that far to visit this place again.
Great food and a funky little place to visiat
Delicious as always and agreat destination for a motorbike ride
Love the ice cream !!
Awesome food service is great and its decorated like a 60,s diner
Love this place for the ice cream, the crazy cones and all the flavors that you can mix is all you need to have a great day, the shakes are really good too and they hace great assortment of flavors to try. I havent try any food
Im 75% sure real fruit milkshakes dont have syrup added. This cherry milkshake tastes like Im drinking cherry cough syrup
Nice little burger shack with Drive Thru and Dine In options. The staff were friendly, articulate, and served with a smile! The menu is packed with favourites and originals, I chose the signature burger. Really good, great taste, although the patties were a bit thin. 2 couldve been a bit thicker, but they charged a fair price for the burger. If youre in a rush or like to take your time, you would be wise to stop and check this place out!
Soggy tomato, tiny piece of lettuce cold burger patties. Yuck!
I have been going to Jacks for 20 years. Always a treat to stop in for an ice cream and a burger and fries. One of my newer favorites is their deep fried pickles. They have a great selection of ice cream treats including milkshakes, soft serve with dips and many many flavor options. A must try go-to in Spruce Grove for sure.
This place has been a favorite of mine since I was a little girl. I now bring my kids here often for a treat. It has become a tradition of ours to stop in for an ice cream when we drive through Spruce Grove (which is fairly often!!). All their food is delish but the ice cream alone is worth the trip there!!
I hadnt been here in almost 30 years. The burgers, fries, and shakes were so good! Nothing had changes. Absolutely delicious!
Deep-fried pickles undercooked (this is fine, just made eating them difficult), spritzer was nothing but ice. Barely anything to drink. Biggest issue was I ordered a BLT, got a grilled cheese. When the order was fixed, the sandwich hadnt been sliced, so the ingredients were flopping out. When I asked to have it cut, she told me to do it myself with a butter knife. Like, bacon lettuce and all??? Obviously that didnt help so I had to tear the sandwich apart into a sloppy pile and manually distribute the ingredients, which was way too soggy because of all the tomatoes. Worst part is that it didnt even taste good. Likely because of, again, half the mass was just soggy tomato. Quite possibly one of my worst dining experiences in recent memory. Burger, ice cream, fritters and hot dogs are fantastic here, definitely come to Jacks for their staples.
The food made right a d filled the belly
This is the best place for great food. Small dinning area but amazing food, especially their milkshakes
Its Jacks. They are awesome.
Exactly as the hype states
Fries soggy and tasteless, onion rings bland, burger cold and bland. Gravy almost tasted like it was in the late 1980 s but just didn t have it.
Fabulous food and great little place!
Time travel
Always reliable for good milkshakes and burgers! Fave spot to go for a quick date!
Ordered 2 ice creams, was in line for 40 MINS ??? Terrible service
Mushroom burger....
Always a must stop for our family road trips. Never disappoints and the food is so good. Jack special for the win evertime Kid-friendliness: Super friendly
If been going to Jacks since I was a kid and they have NEVER changed there recipes which makes there food so amazing
Love this place. Been going here since 1985. Their burgers are amazing. So good Service is also great, fid the drive threw, and they gave gave me fritters for free.
Jacks used to be great not sure what happened but its totally disgusting the burger is as thick as the thinly sliced ham cheaped right out.Never go back
Used to go here weekly back in 2013. Just LOVE the friez and gravy. Visited again tonight and it has not changed. Still as delicious as ever!!
A family friendly staple. Food is always good! Definitely a blast from the past when you go here.
Their corn fitters are what keep us coming back, and the ice cream!
A classic! The milk shakes and mushroom burger are the Best!! Food
Great Burgers and fries!
Corn fritters were great. Burgers were also very good. The flavor burst (crazy cones) were excellent. Lots of selections for ice cream. 50s atmosphere inside. A little tricky to get in and out of parking lot.
Had a really good meal, with a great butter rum milkshake. There was a new person training - she did great and the team seemed eager to keep things moving despite being extremely busy. Good job team!
I went and got my free meal and things were so much better than before.
Very rude staff. Didnt start doordash order until arrived. Just ice cream. Not impressed. Management needs to have a word.
Great deep fried pickles!
Deep fry grease was old. Onion rings were hornless and went back in the bag. Cheeseburger with way to much sauce, hiding what who knows. Butterscotch milkshake with way to much flavour. All this for over 20 bucks. Definitely not the same Jacks.
AS ALWAYS, Terrific burgers and shakes
Like a trip back in time and my first time here.. that was one damn tasty burger. Ill be coming back again
Just came from there , ordered a milk shake and cost 9.23 wow . By heir prices are nuts . Used to be reasonalble , slow at the drive in. would not go there again prices are insane .Why do you need to charge 9.23 for a milk shake Food
Home made has a new challenger! Large portions, delicious and oh so much to choose from!
Absolutely amazing little spot. They have lasted this long for a reason. Greasy pub burgers dressed up just right. Absolutely amazing milkshakes and do not get me started on the Jalapeño corn fritters....
This is a small stand alone restaurant that serves burgers & fries type foods and ice cream with parking available. Because of its size you can expect to wait a little for service but they do have friendly service, lots to choose from and a variety for cone dips, flavours, mix-ins and cakes. If you go inside they have a little freezer where they sell ice cream mistakes for $1.50. Youre rolling the dice for what you end up with but if youre feeling adventurous, for a buck-fifty how can you lose for ice cream! We havent tried their food yet but the ice cream is worth coming back for.
Great food, great prices. Milkshakes are top notch.
Good.
The place really shows it history in spruce the milkshakes and ice cream are sooo good the food is fresh and idk what to say great staff everything about that place is a must try!!
Food is meh.. At best, and overpriced
I have going here since I was a little guy now take my grandkids here. LOVE IT mixed cone dipped is my fav.
Young staff is very nice. Have tried this place a couple times because weve heard such good things, but I just dont understand what the hype is about. Food isnt fantastic. Hot dog was good. Mozza sticks were not. Ice cream is good.
Been going to Jacks over 30 yrs Awesome place!
Great milk shakes and burgers! Friendly staff and retro atmosphere! See you again!
I only recently discovered this place within the last couple years but is my go to when ever we want to meet friends or just go out. Staff are always awesome, the food is delicious and the styling of the place is awesome. If your looking to support a local company that has been around for a long time and get good food at a good price l, Jacks is the place to go!
Classic!! Love coming here when I m in spruce
We did drive thru and waited 28 min for 3 ice creams. 4 people inside The ice cream was still really good Expect a really long want time when you go.
Food and prices really great. Absolutely luv the 1950s and 1960s pretty and happy old-fashioned ambiance. Definitely shall be coming back again. Parking: Plenty of parking
Always busy but definately worth the wait! Best Ice cream ever
AmazIng poutine and Oreo milkshakes!
Pinacolada peritzer and breakfast sandwich is to die for
Good overall place, love the fact they dont have breakfast as a mandatory thing before 11, when everywhere else opens lunch menus. Food is a good value, but the cooks can be uneven at times( different people cook differently). Its a bit of a pain to grab the key and walk outside to go to a washroom, but has the feel of a family restaurant.
Great little spot with an old school vibe! Jack s Breakfast bagel was super fresh and tasty. Made it a meal with a little triangle hash brown and all of it washed down with a smooth and sweet banana shake, yum. Food : 5/5
Real cream ice cream treats !! Very good. Cute 50s decor
Food isn t the best, it s a typical dive, but the service is friendly, you have to ask for salt for your fries or they come without, the milkshakes are DELICIOUS, and it has a beautiful atmosphere, retro feel! :)
Love this place
The fries and onion rings tasted like oil. Time to change the oil.
Really bad burger Not good French fries Ok milk shake Food : 1/5
They forgot an order of fried pickles and charged us for a large drink and we got a medium. Food we got was okay.
Awesome location that stays open late! Well worth the price!
Theyre hamburgers are not what they were in past. No flavor and the Pati was thin with no taste.
Last time we went was fabulous. Today , my burger did not have the swish sheets, or onion ring. My Frappuccino was liquid sort off warm, our fries were pale not really hot and no salt, I ordered 10 corn fritters , got home there s only 9 , but paid for 10. 2 per person, only I got one because I m Mom! Very disappointed !
Food was yummy, staff was friendly, great night out!!
Milkshakes are great. Not sure the rest of the food is worth an out of your way drive.
It was ok, shredded cheese for the poutine, frozen fries, and store bought burgers
Best shakes and corn fritters around!
One of a kind. Worth driving to Spruce Grove just for the experience. Food is always top notch. The mushroom burger is my favourite.
We had a couple of cones, nothing special, the ladies were nice , the place was busy but traffic moved along at a moderate pace.
Best milkshake using real berries.
My second time visiting Jack s (milkshake only the first time) and was mostly disappointed. Five item items ordered, but only two out of five were positive. I m happy to say that the two staff members I dealt with in the drive-thru were very pleasant and friendly. The bacon on the bacon cheese hotdog was extremely fatty and well under cooked (for my liking), but the wiener was very tasty. I requested no tomato on the crispy chicken burger but to my disappointment, the tomato was there. After mentioning it twice, while placing the order, the person taking the order did confirm my request and said they would make sure there s no tomato on it . The poutine had very little gravy for the amount of fries in the container, and it was topped with shredded cheese (very disappointing). Poutine is made with cheese curds or squeaky cheese ! The pina colada milkshake was excellent! A good balance of pineapple and coconut flavour. The corn fritters were fantastic! Soft and fluffy, and cooked perfectly. The strawberry jam was the perfect accompaniment. Maybe it was my fault for not asking first if the bacon is served crispy or soft on the hotdog, or ask if the poutine has cheese curds, or to TRIPLE ask for no tomatoes on my burger? or maybe not. Someday I will try again.
Stopped in for the 1st time as I drove Hiway 16A. Was impressed with the price listed, but tried the Jacks special burger. Have yo say UT was excellent! Stooped again the next day, ordered 2!
Cornfritters for the win!
Need to add more napkins. Burgers are a little messy. Its hard to eat in your vehicle.
We have had some great ice cream and burgers here and find we always go back. Tried their poutine and it was delicious and a very generous portion. Had their famous ice cream and it is very creamy and worth the trip every single time. An update after visiting again and their burgers are so good. Someone had eggs Benedict which looked fantastic and we were given a sample of perogies that are made by someone especially for Jack s after drooling over their menu. Definitely a great place to go for breakfast lunch or dinner. Their staff are friendly, helpful and bend over backwards to make sure your visit is the best.
I love this restaurant for their swirled ice cream. They have the best ice cream.
Love the place retro vibe, great staff, awesome food! Also since the pandemic and inflation thier price per gram is arguably better than McDonalds!
The burger was plain with 3 pickles and next to no sauce. First time trying here was sadly disappointed by the burger.
Its Jacks. Same as always. And thats exactly what it should always be.
Went on a weekend, got the spruce special burger, mac & cheese, and corn fritters... I loved everything, and I used the drive thru, which was speedy as well :))
