We stayed at the Executive Suites Squamish hotel and got to enjoy both their happy hour and breakfast—and everything we tried was fantastic! During happy hour, we had half-shell oysters, po’ boy, chicken sliders, and my favorite: the crispy veggies. For breakfast, we tried the eggs benedict and chorizo hash, and both were delicious. The service was excellent—attentive and friendly. The atmosphere was also very nice. Would definitely recommend dining here!
Family vacation was staying close to this restaurant and liked the happy hour oyster idea. Once we arrived, saw the patio, and how friendly the staff were. We stayed and really enjoyed it. Enough to go back actually another night. The setting is with a very nice view, we were in the summer and it was beautiful. The owner is knowledgeable and will explain anything you need help with. They had different selections both nights we went, so it's always fresh. All the oysters we enjoyed were great. The Family got a few other happy hour things, fries if I remember correctly, which was perfect with the oysters. We weren't looking for much, left rather in a good feeling about the whole place. Shout out to Sally for being our awesome server both nights, and Lola for friendly seating. Will be back when I pass by again.
Great deal for happy hour (3-6PM) - 1.50$ per oyster. Fantastic service by Isaac. Good food. Beautiful view of the mountains.
We had the salmon jambalaya, soup, fish on brioche, spinach dip. Portions were large and everything was delicious- fish had so much flavour and was cooked perfectly. Our server, Bruce was awesome.
Best gluten free fish and chips I‘ve had in a VERY long time. Perfectly cooked fish and very generous portion. Dedicated GF fryer so no cross contamination. We also ordered the oysters which were amazing.
If Im being honest, food is 1 star. We ordered Chicken & Waffles and 2 Orders of Brisket Benny. The chicken was too dry (overcooked) waffles don’t taste good. My kids always finish c&w but this one nah! They barely ate it and did jot even finish at all. This is sad… As for the BRISKET BENNY, 2 finger-sized of meat (you can see my photos, also spit it out because it was bad) and this is $22 which is way overpriced. Not worth it. We were whole table of 16 and half of us ordered the brisket benny and we all said it TASTE OLD and TOO DRY! We were so disappointed coming here as this was our first and definitely the last!! And to top it up with couple of fruit flies and a fly. 2 👎 👎
Had the lobster roll and it was very tasty. Also had good drinks. Lovely patio on a sunny day near nature, and friendly staff.
Took a little day trip to Squamish for some oysters, this place had great google ratings so I had to try it. Was a quiet Monday afternoon, hospitality was great, food was super tasty too. We waited for the happy hour specials. This place did not disappoint. Would highly recommend and definitely go back again.
Yummy food. Nice staff.
Love the atmosphere at Free Bird & Oyster Bar. The fried chicken was fantastic . Both the service and scenery assured a return visit.
Food and service was amazing! Bruce was much help and made the night memorable
We had a great experience at Freebird. Bruce our server was excellent and made our dinner amazing! The food was delicious. Will definitely be returning.
Very kind staff and lobster mac ncheese was a real winner
The ultimate selection of fine dining!
Hey guys, I m frustrated with my experience here. I ve tried to come twice now hoping that maybe the first time I came the kitchen was having an off day. But twice now, I ve been disappointed. The first time I went I got a potato soup and the big salad. Salad was good but the soup had a horrible aftertaste and something about it seemed very off. I make a better soup at home. Second time lobster mac and cheese and a chowder. All the veg in the chowder was still hard and crunchy and the mac and cheese lobster was rubbery. Y all gotta lower your prices if you can cook fish properly. It s super disappointing because the atmosphere and the service there is amazing so if the kitchen could just make good food you d be set!!!
Really enjoy the vibe, oysters, local beers on tap and happy hour. Quick service and great view! I do wish the menu changed at least once a year. Parking: A lot of parking as it is part of a hotel Kid-friendliness: Its kid friendly Wheelchair accessibility: They have it
Brisket Benny was not brisket. I think it was roast beef. Not great.
Great place to finish off a long day in the saddle. Staff were great and have eaten there a few times. Food was always fantastic.
Best kept secret in Squamish
Got my order wrong but I still tipped so I m expecting a red carpet treatment next time. Thanks!
5 out of 5 stars for the food. Probably the best place Ive eaten at in Squamish Definitely try the corn bread, salmon jambalaya, lobster mac and cheese
Prompt and friendly service, with a truly fantastic oyster happy hour. Highly recommended for a stop between 3 and 6pm (all days, park on the right if not staying at the hotel).
Best calamari Ive ever had servers could be more attentive but the food is absolute fire! Highly recommend this place!
The tavern burger was delicious!
Great service, food and view. Clean washroom and easy parking. Definitely recommend this restaurant!
Really love this place! Nice big patio that I can bring my dog to. Beautiful view also. Menu is somewhat limited but I have enjoyed my drinks and food every time! Really nice vibe sitting outside!! Food
Outside area is great. Inside area is a bit disappointing in terms of atmosphere. I feel the food is fine, not notably good or bad. I ve been there 5 times with family, with friends and for a networking event (at all times of the day), and the service has always been very slow, not very good attention to detail. I may go again for the patio but that would be the only draw for me.
Happy Hour here slaps. Unfortunately they were out of oysters when we showed up. The part of the restaurant we were in was quite dimly lit, but it was very aesthetically pleasing.
Lobster Mac & Cheese was delicious. The dip combo was amazing and the service was outstanding! Definitely recommend going here!
This meal was very disappointing. I ordered chicken and waffles and the waffles were gummy. The server was honest and said theyre premade, and in her credit she was very friendly. The chicken appeared to be reheated from frozen. The chorizo hash had only a bit of crumbled sausage. And the rest of the ingredients had clearly just been scooped from a bin and had a couple poached eggs put on top. Our meals came out in about 5 minutes after ordering and now we know why.It felt wrong to pay $60 including tip for such a low quality meal.
Great place to hang out! Oysters are delicious and can t beat the vibes! Mandy is awesome and made our experience 10/10 Thanks freebird!
Went for late breakfast to give the chicken & waffles a try. The online reviews and pictures looked great. We were served oversized chicken nuggets (similar to Pintys from the grocery store) on undercooked toaster waffles with a side of hotel melon mix. Neither of finished our plates as it was just not good. I dont know if theyve changed the way these are made recently, or posted misleading pictures but its just not good. Staff were lovely though.
Great food and service
No, this place is an experience on its own amazing service. Amazing food absolutely beautiful environment.. Had the oysters absolutely fresh and fantastic-had the family chicken meal probably the best fried chicken I ve ever had in my life the baked beans and the cornbread were absolutely out of this world. My servers name was Matt. He was fantastic and explained everything we needed to know please come here if you re in the area absolutely.
Limited menu but the items they have are great. We go for the oysters and the service and only a couple places in town for fresh oysters. They do service allergies really well. My wife is celiac and they do accommodate for that really well. Been there numerous times though and I find I am getting the same each time though as I am not into a lot of fried food. Like I said though, the items they do have are great and the service is always top notch!
Great place for higher end pub style food with great taste. Buck a Shuck oysters if that s your thing. Highly recommend. Great staff. Sammi is the best server and bartender to deal with. Always makes it a pleasant experience.
The Souls Bowl présentation was cute the flavour were on point They forgot the chicken at first that was funny haha it happen sometime The Chicken was so spicy I trew up and my stomach hurt this morning... I dont remember reading it was spicy ... Should be written with extra letters haha Dietary restrictions: They are very sweet my Friend have important restrictions and they gave her a plate good for her
Paloma cocktail didn t have any alcohol in it. Oysters were good. Dirty fries was OK. The outdoor patio is really nice in the sun. Food
Good atmosphere, thank you to the server for partially rescuing a terrible meal. Calamari was rubber, $25 chicken burger basically a plate of fries. Surprised the reviews are so good
Huge beer on selection on tap. 14 Beers in total! Fantastic new restaurant and space to meet up with friends. Great cocktails, large wine and lots of delicious food. Great atmosphere and staff! Dietary restrictions: Gluten free
Happy hour is dope!
Really good address in Squamish! Loved the lobster roll
Beautiful restaraunt and view. Food is amazing and it is a must for people who are passing through Squamish (or for those who just want a cheap delicious bite in the sun with a lovely view). Happy hour oysters on a sunny Friday afternoon with a wine (or beer) to wind down from the work week, how much better can it get? Their Buck a Shuck deal is too good to be true. The service was sometimes slow because they would get pounded with tables at the turn of 3pm for happy hour, but since moving from BC, my partner and I are missing this place a lot. Thanks for the great food!
A separate fryer for gluten free options and a dog friendly patio, a winning combo!
Great food, we are not big oyster people but there is still an extensive menu of other foods available!
Had oysters, cornbread and the jambalaya. So good. Great service too. Ill be back, and I live in Cobourg, ON.
Great oyster happy hour ($1.50, no longer $1) and the rest of the food is quite good. Wish they had fewer TVs on as the place has a pretty nice vibe and doesnt need to feel like a sports bar.
Went for dinner after a long day at Whistler. Food was so delicious, staff was great and our server, Matt, was the best! We will be making it our new go-to spot whenever were in the area.
Nice big open bar good amount of customers. Several screens showing sport but not so many that they dominated the place (and sound on low). Service very good but a tad over the top, it wasn t v busy so assumed it was that. Fish n chips were ok and shared a lobster Mac cheese which was pretty good. The Guinness was excellent!! Would recommend and go back again.
amazing!! me and my family stayed at the executive suites which is just next door to free bird. for breakfast, i got the waffles which were so good, they were crispy and soft and the maple syrup wasnt too sweet. we also came for dinner and i got to say i was a little disappointed about the chicken sliders but still overall a solid 4 stars. the workers were so nice and helpful when taking our orders. would recommend!! Vegetarian options: there are multiple vegetarian options for breakfast and dinner menus.
Such a great place for Happy hour! The wings and oysters are amazing.
Great food and service. We enjoyed delicious Oysters and Crispy Veggies during happy hour
Food was yum! Service was good! Oyster hit the spot.
No healthy options
A picture is worth a thousand words... Ive been so excited to try this place and we chose the perfect day. This patio in the sunshine is second to none. Oysters, bubbly, and terrific service by Mandy is what made my experience the absolute best. My husband and son were thrilled with the chicken options and the wide open space theyre currently both running around in. Cant wait to come back, I see a summer full of happy days like today Kid-friendliness: On a nice day theres an old golf course thats no longer in use. The kids love to run around there and its visible from the restaurant
The food is truly amazing with options for everyone, including healthy options! I felt obligated to state this after seeing that totally unfair and unwarranted 1 star review. Will be back again.
Not too bad but such a pity that their patio has zero shade. No umbrellas no awnings. And such a view.. Who wants to sit indoors on such a georgeous day. Pubs need to start stocking a few low/0 % alcohol craft beers. Their only offerong was a bulk Heineken or some such ghastly product.
Went for a friends birthday. The staff were friendly, and numerous, but despite that service was slow. Once our orders were taken I was able to take in the quite minimal changes to the place from the old branding, and the place is fine. The food and drinks however were not. Firstly the bourbon iced tea tasted less like tea and more like swigging straight from a bottle of not at all top shelf bourbon. It was unpleasant enough that it got sent back as nobody at the table found it enjoyable. I ended up with a friends long island which was strangely missing the cola but which I didnt hate as much as he did. With regards to the food, the fish and chips were not only wildly overpriced for the serving you get, but the batter was also unpleasantly claggy, as well as being under seasoned. The coleslaw was similarly bland and disappointing, and the tartare sauce had an odd flavour and texture. The only thing on the plate that wasnt a let down was the chips, but as those are pretty hard to stuff up youd hope so. Overall, a serious letdown, and for the price point I strongly recommend against it. There are far better and cheaper options in town. Perhaps it will improve with time, but for a chain location and one that has been open a month, I do not hold out much hope.
What a brilliant spot! Fantastic job! Great food and even better service!
Table of roughly 8 or 9, there for a couple drinks and appetizers. Server refused to split the bill, so one of us had to pay and receive e-transfers from everyone. It was like we were an inconvenience for her, ordering food and drinks. It was busy but, that s the gig. Wouldn t recommend going as a group.
An absolute wonder and treat. They somehow managed to bring back all the lovely staff from my last visit when it was Norman Rudys. Patient and professional, even in the face of some proud locals who have been coming for years and expect to be treated a certain way. Sally was an absolute Gem today, and the girls at the door are wonderful people. They some how took everything that I liked about the old venue and elevated it. A true gem in an over cluttered restaurant world, only shame is some demanding locals during the happy hour rush. Free Bird, you are amazing.
Great place with awesome atmosphere and very good food. This is mystery why it has such bad reviews. Visited place several times and it never disappoints.
We are really like this place. Great beer, tasty food, awesome service. We dine here every time when we need to skip the traffic.
Awesome food, decent beer menu, distinguished views from the patio! Definitely, will visit once again
Im a pro Ceasar taster. Thats my go-to drink in every single place in the greater Vancouver area and beyond. Didnt have high expectations but the local Ceasar was exceptional and on par with my top picks. We also had Jambalaya and a Wedge salad (great) and a bit of beautiful views on top to make the evening perfect. Recommeded
Given the marketing and branding I had high expectations of freebird. Marketed as an oyster and fried chicken restaurant I expected some specialty food and quality. Food - Unfortunately this image was all marketing and little substance, ultimately it s the same pub food quality that the previous Norman Rudy s offered. Ordered a Nashville hot chicken sandwich and received a breaded(not deep fried) wafer thin 1/4 of a chicken breast on a dry bun with a suggestion of spice. The fries were reasonable. The corn bread was nice and moist with nice honey butter Service - casual pub style, all young and female only. Server was pleasant and attentive until a friend arrived which distracted her, causing me to go in and ask for our missing order of cornbread we had been waiting 15 mins for (although she did remove it from the bill as an apology) Price - $21 chicken burger at below mediocre quality, overpriced Ambience - great patio but as other review suggest limited shade
I liked their outdoor seating but the waitress took a very long time with helping us. The food was ok. The lobster mac and cheese had cheese that wasnt fully melted. Overall pretty average. Vegetarian options: They have a lot of substitutions available if you are a vegetarian :)
*Update: after speaking with management, we were refunded for the extra food that was brought to us. No malicious intent, just miscommunication. Thank you Simon and Claire for addressing this in a timely manner. Food was okay but they kept bringing us oysters without asking us.. they just kept bringing dozens after dozens. The server stated she pulled some strings so we assumed they were on the house but we were charged for everything. We even thanked the oyster shucker (Jack) and took a picture with him. At least the service was decent but come on.. at least ASK if we want more food.
Hands down the worst breakfast I ve ever received. It was us and two other tables at 8:45am. I watched the bartender remove plates from the other table, which still had 75% of the food. My partner and I ordered the usuals , hers gluten free due to allergy. They brought out her food and told me the cook made a mistake and my food was currently being cooked. We waited approximately 6 minutes for mine to arrive, during that time I tried my partners eggs and they tasted like rehydrated powdered eggs that used a mixture of 90% water to 10% cream. I ve never had eggs with this texture. My food came and my eggs tasted like they had poured too much of the water mixture. Our bacon was discoloured and extremely soft, my toast felt like it was popped in the oven for 10 seconds and served due to misreading the chit. The bartender didn t even quality check us at this point and 5 minutes later I had to interrupt what looked like a personal phone call to tell her we weren t going to continue eating this food. The bartender looked unsurprised and just took the food and declined my offer to pay for the coffee and that was the end of our experience. Was quite disappointed as we were both very hungry after checking in late last night at the hotel due to our apartment flooding and mold developing. Unsure if we will be coming back to try lunch/dinner.
Parking: It was good Food
Freebird has elevated the dining experience at this venue, with major updates to the interior and has a lot of potential to be an awesome restaurant in the Sea to Sky. Service was friendly and beers were cold. We had the fried chicken family dinner, which had reasonable portions for two adults and a toddler, but we felt the sides were a bit bland (requiring salt and pepper), and the fried chicken was dry. Considering they are a new restaurant, I chalk these up to growing pains and look forward to trying other things on the menu in the future. Parking: Lots of parking Kid-friendliness: Patio is big and their back field is nice to let the kids run around and dodge the dog poop.
Really good food every dish we had was well done! Friendly service. Only thing I would change is the music. The decor and atmosphere is like the restaurant Published on main st in vancouver, but the music is like being at the Roxy. This place is a hidden gem with lots of potential. Add a charcuterie plate option and one more salad to the menu, and advertise your business more w the newspapers. Wine list too big. Add more local drink options and cross advertise with breweries?
The food was terrible..the roasted veggies, way too much broccoli, soggy, no flavor..the chicken wings tasted like they were frozen. Ordered salt and pepper and came our plain. Lobster roll was ok. The worst was how dirty the plates were. Didnt even want to drink out of the glasses. You seriously need someone who can cook appies and I was suspicious when I placed our order and it was at table in 5 min. Waitress was super nice!!
We stopped by after going up the Sea to Sky Gondola and were pleasantly surprised. It was a nice breezy day on the patio, and despite how busy it was, Bruce took excellent care of us. We started with some happy hour oysters, then shared the BBQ ribs and pulled pork platter. Fantastic deal for $55 with lots of food. Kid-friendliness: Nice field to run around in off the patio!
Incredible snacks and a great selection of beers on a beautiful piece of land. I dont think I will ever drive through Squamish without a stop at Freebird!
What a fantastic addition to the Squamish food scene. Prawn cocktail was absolutely bomb, loved the drinks, staff was knowledgeable and friendly. We will be back!
Meh! Definitely not an authentic lobster roll! Or sweet tea for that matter.
Staffs and new interior were fairly good. I haven t tried oyster bar yet, but what I ordered were all terrible. My burger patty was COLD and my husband s chicken tender plate had only 3 pieces of chicken tenders, bunch of fries and 3 different kinds of sauce which is $21. Can you believe it? We should have gone to DQ instead. It was the most worst dinning experience in Squamish so far.
Nice location and friendly staff avoid the so called lobster mac and cheese it s watery and granular and doesn t really taste like lobster at all.. even canned lobster $19 flushed.. beer was fantastic
They are going to have to step up their game in a town full of amazing restaurants. Food was bland, lobster isnt real (Im from Nova Scotia..so I know) table was dirty when we sat down.
This is going to be a hot spot because its got a relaxing vibe and location. its truly beautiful . Great friendly service and a good variety on the menu, *Not just oysters! I was really happy with the gluten free dairy free options. Ill be sharing info with my gluten free community. Dedicated fryers are hard to find and its nice not to worry about cross contamination. Thanks Free Bird for making our day. Bonus that they have lots of screens to watch the ballgame. Well definitely be returning.
What a great place. Stellar service, tasty food, excellent beer and the oysters, oh the oysters! A beautiful place to eat on the patio.
Great deals at happy hour! $1 oysters were a treat.
Very gooooooood
The young teens you had working there today are so kind, they were the highlight of our visit. Bonus was the abundance of vegetarian options. Everything we had was delicious!
In our top 2 favorite restaurants in squamish. great food great service great views. way better than what was there before!
We have eaten at this restaurant twice already and both times the service has been exceptional. The servers are all very friendly, food was fantastic and was brought out very quickly despite how busy it was. This is my new favourite restaurant in Squamish hands down. Will definitely be returning again soon!
We ve checked out Free Bird a few times since they opened in this space and just had to add a review this time. They re killing it. The Happy Hour menu with fresh oysters for a buck each is a winner. We tried the roasted veggies as well and they were delicious. Service was also exceptional. It s great to see another go to restaurant in Squamish!
What a pleasant change! Great staff , the food is good , much better atmosphere , patio still amazing and the oysters are tasty!
How can you beat $1 oyster happy hour? Oysters were the star of the show, some good drinks and food was also good, but honestly we came for the oysters. I was pleasantly surprised to see some vegetarian chicken tendies and sandwiches. The patio has some great views to top it off.
Buck a shuck at happy hour is seasonal It should be advertised that way It s the only reason I went and it is not available Premium oysters still on the menu though Food : 3/5 |
Such a wonderful place. Fantastic food, an amazing beer selection and Kaida is such a gem. Made even more special by the fact that they stopped having buck a shuck for the mean time to ensure safety. Alot of places wouldnt stop a clearly successful program just at an off chance. Glad to see a place that takes it seriously. Could do with less banjo in their play list though.
Good food, good ambience, good beers and amazing cocktails. This is all made even better by sally, who works there, she is as efficient as she is lovely, chatty, friendly and fast! This is our new local
Glad you are here Free Bird! Your staff are amazing, food is excellent, and the ambiance is perfect!
Always a great time here. Shout out to the staff for going the extra mile. I asked for no onions on my main and noticed they were also off my starter even though I forgot to ask. Nice attention to detail
Amazing oyster. Great service. Beautiful patio. We will definitely be back the next time we pass through Squamish. Food
What makes a place special is the people. The people at Free Bird and the Executive Suites are absolutely top notch. We hosted our destination wedding here on Sunday July 23, 2023 and could not be happier! I cannot express the level of gratitude we have for the entire team for making our wedding day absolutely seamless and carefree. It truly could not have gone better. Everyone was laid back but yet on the ball - suiting our vibe perfectly. The food was excellent, views from the patio unmatched, and service amazing. Frankie - Event Planner - was always communicative in the months leading up to the wedding. Thoughtful, flexible, responded to my emails within a day and often reached out proactively. On the day of the wedding, she pulled through even further. Everything was seamless and Frankie was the glue. Ivana - Leading up to the wedding, Ivana put any concerns we had at ease. Originally we had booked Norman Rudy s so with the restaurant changeover we were a touch nervous, but as soon as we had a video call with Ivana and Frankie we knew we were in good hands and things would be excellent no matter what. Lina and the front desk team - so so so nice. Always greeted with a smile, made to feel special, and super flexible. Jeff - Free Bird Manager - always on his feet and making sure everything was going smoothly. Super dependable and adaptable. Dani, Emma, Steph - Servers - everyone commented on how awesome the servers were. There when we needed them, always smiling. Positive interactions all around. Matt & Isaac - Bartenders - starting the night off mixing up some of the best Caesar s we ve had, then rolling with the punches and whatever we requested. Fun guys and helpful helping us to figure out the sound system, etc. Max - Support - Everything was super smooth and the behind the scenes staff are such a big part of that! Again, I can t express enough how grateful we are. The day was super smooth and stress-free for us, and so many guests commented on how amazing the location, food, and service was. Thanks again! We will be back on anniversary trips for sure!
Went there today and had one of the best times ever. Quick, nice service and the food was delicious. Isaac, our waiter, was awesome!
Decent food, friendly service and exceptional views.
Group of us went Sunday afternoon. The view and surroundings are still stunning but the food and service was really disappointing. They served us ritz crackers with the dip we ordered and the food and drinks took forever
Happy hour was great with $1/Oyster but ran out quickly after our first order, which was a bit disappointing. Other $10snacks were good but portion a bit too small, apparently its just small snacks.
This place is great. Service was awesome and fast. The food was fantastic and happy hour was on point! We sat on the patio and the views were beautiful.
Nice sunny spot, Buck a shuck happy hour is awesome!
Nice place!
If you love oysters like I do you have to do the buck a shuck.
Service was a bit slow. Menu items were ok. Nothing exceptional.
So glad to have found this for our late weeknight cravings! We got the jambalaya and chicken tenders which were both delicious. Certainly better than the downtown options we ve had! So glad that they re in Squamish!
Great prices on food during happy hour between 3 to 6 p.m.
If you like oysters this is your place to go. I ve tried a lot of things on the menu as I m a local. Dirty fries with extra chicken haha love it. One thing they could change is the chicken and waffles the fried chicken is really good, the waffle is heavy and taste like a donut, I like the traditional light a crispy waffle better this is my opinion. I like this place a lot they have a great staff and one of the best out door seating in Squamish
If you like oysters, youll like Free Bird. Also love the dirty fries!
Dropped in on a rainy day for the oysters happy hour. My wife had 2 rounds.
We are there tonight. Food was tasty, portions large, and servicecwas excellent. Well be back.
Great happy hour! Came here with a larger group and they were so wonderful to us. Our food was all excellent and the service matched. The dirty fries, and spicy chicken sandwich were to die for and who can beat dollar oysters.
Great oysters great deal
Nice people, very clean Good selection Just wish the prices were more affordable $30 firvs burger, fries and a. Ice tea.... Food : 4/5
Well furnished, spacious eatery with great finishes and decor. Views all around. The bar accommodates extra seating and the food was excellent.
