Graham makes the best lattes around. Niko makes the BEST Iced Matcha. Downtown St. Catharines had great cafes and this is one of the best. Its the best place for community. They have amazing soup. But overall Mahtay is a really special place that we are lucky to have in our community.

Different community groups go there for chats and just interacting. The drinks and food is great. Ambiance is great too Food : 5/5

This place knocks it out of the park for food quality and prices, not to mention the staff is awesome. Have been for some dine-in and take out; both fantastic ways to enjoy. Best vegan burger is here! Vegetarian options: Very vegan friendly! And no upcharge to make it vegan (thank you sm)

I was there to study for about 3 hours today and I loved it! The bagel sandwich was so yummy & the iced coffee was good too! Also the worker at the front was so helpful and friendly (sorry didn t get her name)

Mahtays Cafe is such a wonderful place! The atmosphere is so cozy and warm, a wonderful place to study and hangout with friends/family. The food is so fresh and delicious, Nacho bowl is my 100% favorite! I totally recommend coming to this Cafe.

Good place to unwind and the beverages there are amazing. Decided to buy a random beer one time and was kind of shocked at the quality. Anything you get from the place wont let me down.

Food is okay but pretty pricey. Drinks are the same. Not impressed with their tea though. Way too expensive for that. This place always has something neat going on. Cool interior design and local art thats also for sale. Washrooms are clean. The interior is clean though Im not sure about the couches and pillows at times. Free WiFi

We came there as a large group. My bagel was hard, cold, and bland. They did not offer any drinks besides water. Very disappointed.

i asked for a smoked salmon sandwich and was told no it s too hot outside we re not making that and i had to get a spinach pastry with flies in their premade pastry cabinet swarming around. Never coming back.

Ordered two hot chocolates to go. Not sure if they forgot to add the hot chocolate or what, but it tasted like plain hot milk. The server also seemed very disinterested.

this place is part of a dying breed of coffee house that are genuinely part of a community, and reflected in the wonderful integration between a business and the people that live there. I wish these that these community oriented coffee houses could last in an era of high rent s and cookie cutter pseudo-upscale decor.

its a very nice welcoming space. Definitely a staple of downtown St.Catharines. Friendly and kind staff. Im definitely a repeat customer, there at least weekly. I love this place! Vegetarian options: Lots of food available for those who are vegan/vegetarian! Usually I love their soup of the day, especially their lentil soups. Tried their chickpea curry soup recently and it was also delicious! Also love their assortment of pastries. Dietary restrictions: Many items on their menu available for those who are vegan / vegetarian. Most of the time their soup is gluten-free.

My friends and I come to this cafe often, and I have to say its one of my favorite places in Niagara. Theyve got good coffee and tea drinks and snacks. They also serve alcohol. They are very community driven so there is always some kind of fun entertainment going on in the other room with the stage whether it be music, improv, a craft show or some kind of meet-up. The staff is very friendly and they often display local art on the walls.

A good cafe in downtown St. Catharines. The place is filled with quirky stuff throughout. It has a large hall with comfy sofas and chairs. Coffee preparation is good and the staff is helpful.

Okay so we didn t actually order anything but I wanted to give a shout out for the amazing staff and superb customer service. When we walked in you could just tell this place is a gem.

This has been my third visit to this cafe and honestly I m obsessed!! I brought my dad from out of town to check it out and now it s our little father daughter date day. The staff are incredibly friendly and absolutely amazing! The atmosphere is great, I love sitting down to get some work done or even to just catch up with a friend! I highly recommend them! Especially as an avid coffee drinker and with a Colombian background their coffee is TO DIE FOR!! No more starbucks or tims for me !

The coffee tastes so horrible, ordered a cappuccino but had to waste it. Also, was trying to get some work done but the employees were talking loud and the girl working started shouting. Definitely not a place to relax or enjoy a cup of coffee

Pulled in off the highway during a snowstorm to wait the storm out. Ordered a Chai Latte and split pea curry soup. WOW! Talk about on the money. An absolutely delicious lunch for under $12...in a cozy, cool café.

Nice atmosphere, enjoyed the coffee, but for the input/output value, very questionable. The sort of place that should be a buck-a-coffee, not upscale prices. The upkeep speaks volumes i.e. if theres a piece of snot on the wall, clean it up! Small effort, big difference. Edit: I forgot to add that the table I got served at was totally dirty, dishes and all, totally lax environment (for the staff anyway), music was fine, food smelt really good, this place has potential, just a lack of direction, leadership, and management. It reminds you of that girl in highschool that could have been an 8 but unfortunately never cleaned herself and ended up being a 2.5. And another edit: Whoever reads this: (ownership): potential, potential, potential! Nice place, but dont slack now.

Downtown St. Catharines has many great spots for coffee, and I love them all. But Mahtay is somewhere I could spend hours. Its a great spot for meetings. For hangouts. They often have great things happening in their community room. Their soup is always perfection and Graham makes the best chai latte Ive ever had.

Decent coffee and a reasonably cosy atmosphere. Good to see flat whites on the menu. However, the coffee mugs were really dirty and that was enough to ensure I wont be back.

Expensive menu with cheesecake no longer an option, but food tastes good, and the atmosphere is unmatched.

Mahtay is not only one of my favourite spots, it s my favourite spot. Friendly, inclusive atmosphere, great food, and local art. Mahtay is THE SPOT for any group to hang out and have an awesome time night or day. I HIGHLY recommend any of their baked goods, which pair perfectly with their fair trade coffee. 11/10!

Ive been going to Mahtay for over a decade. Great coffee, more than reasonable pricing (why more affordable than say Tim Hortons or Starbucks). And the staff are A+

Last night I had the butternut squash soup which it was absolutely delicious and very filling worth the price as well as the most delectable lemon cranberry scone. Was So Fresh So Delicious I know what Im going to order when I go back, and the staff were awesome as always.

Such a great place even if they re a bit heavy-handed on the wokeness. It s their brand, I guess. Decent coffee, great cookies, and amazing art. They host a few different local groups for spoken word and improv, which is fun. They re right across from the film house/theatre and a convenient place to grab a coffee after a show. They would probably have a lot more patrons if they were less clowny? with the advocacy. It s weird to walk in with an LGBT person wearing a suit and buy coffee from a straight person with fluorescent hair wearing a tiki blouse. It feels maybe a bit insulting? Like is this what you think I am/enjoy? But again, they re catering to the customers they want. It s paid their bills so far and they are a staple in the neighborhood that has never given up and moved to the city. They re keeping it local with the coffee and allowing local artists and performers to thrive. Not a lot of ethnic representation but it doesn t seem deliberate. It seems like a really great place, too, for young people who feel a bit like misfits. I think Mahtay does more than most youth groups for keeping kids off the streets and out of trouble, and generally watching out for others. They re good people.

10/10. Go in get their hot chocolate. Croissants are good. Brownies are good. Tried the nachos Im not a fan of beans, but very enjoyable!

Breakfast sammy on multi seed bagel hit the stop before heading over to market square. Only wished there was more tomatoe jam on the sandwich because that stuff is delicious! Vegetarian options: They were able to accommodate my wifes request for a vegetarian breakfast sammy

This is really the coolest place in town, for a coffee, a drink, a bowl of soup, to meet folks, or to sit alone and get work done. The staff are exceptional!

The vibe is way more chill and the espresso drinks taste a lot better these days. ***** Edit: I come here to work on my lap top regularly. The times vary. Joey was serving me this morning. They were kind, attentive and helpful. An owner came in an hour into me being there and started their management ordering tasks. The cafe was quiet at first but business picked up. The owner, as they referred to themselves, did not help Joey and the other individual and at one point snapped at Joey quote I have only 10 minutes to do this and went on to complete an order on their laptop. While, being in the restaurant industry myself, as a supervisor in charge of taking orders etc I understand deadlines are important. However I observed two employees stressed and trying to run a rush while an owner did not step in to help them. It left a sour taste in my mouth. I would have extended my parking time to stay longer and order another beverage/ more food but I was unfortunately distracted by the unpleasantness of the owner. I tried to politely bring up my concerns to the owner privately as they were writing out the menu(they were experiencing issues with their QR code). I was met with half apologies, I was interrupted, and I was given excuses like, Joey and I have a different relationship that we are working through I have worked here for 6 years and I don t think you come here often I don t think you were here this morning half an hour is not much of an observation of a cafe Needless to say, I have enjoyed coming here, albeit it is not everyday but I do consider myself a frequent guest. I will sadly not be returning.

Amazing staff, food, drinks, and atmosphere. I have not once had an issue with anyone at this establishment, and all were kind and caring. I would recommend this café to anybody! Ive watched them serve several less than ideal customers with more patience than they deserve. As someone in the customer service and creative industry, theres been a lot of negativity with how we dont bend over backwards, but every single one of the folks at Mahtay is such a hard worker and no one there deserves to be harassed as Ive seen.

Funky downtown coffee shop featuring an assortment of custom-made drinks and snacks. As a tea drinker, I found their London Fog to be the best Ive ever had by far. The service was really friendly, and they have numerous loyal customers who stop by frequently. The whole back area was full of friends hanging out and chatting, people reading, and business people doing work. Clearly this is a hub for folks in downtown St. Catherines, and with lots of different options here, I always make sure to stop by whenever Im in town.

Loved this café during my stay in St Catharines! Is one of my favorites.
