200 St Paul St, St. Catharines, ON L2R 3M2, Canada
Buzzing ramen joint with housemade noodles & sauces, plus broth that simmers for 24 hours.
Order take out. Ramen and Oni Giri. Take out arrived and I was perplexed that I received a typical container for broth (round with lid). But the noodles, pork and dry ingredients for the soup were in a regular rectangular take out container. Instead of a large soup bowl container that I have received at 100% of previous restaurants when ordering Pho or Ramen style soup. All the broth didn't even fit in the container. I guess they assumed I had a bowl handy? Also their Salmon Onigiri was mad with what appeared to be canned salmon or at best warmed salmon flakes. I wasn't expecting the taste or texture. Ramen was okay, but not enough to get the weird container situation or Onigiri out of my mind. I wouldn't eat there again.
Went yesterday very nice and friendly host. food was amazing i would definitely go again and recommend.
I ordered from Kenzo Ramen through Uber Eats, and it was a terrible experience. The dish didn’t match the menu description—no beef, missing ingredients, and absolutely not worth the $25 I paid. I tried contacting the restaurant directly to resolve it, but they didn’t answer, and Uber’s help was no help at all. For a place charging these prices, you’d expect some kind of customer service and consistency in their food, but I got neither. Avoid ordering from here if you want what you’re actually paying for.
The food is so fresh and absolutely amazing. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
we have been coming here for almost 5 years now and every time is just as amazing as the last everything on the menu is 10/10 except the onigiri which is a 20/10 today we got the tantanmen ramen and the tonkostu shoyu ramen and two salmon onigiri the noodles are the perfect thickness and the pork is juicy and thick
Lofi music totally added to the vibes, waiter was nice, and food was amazing. Super huge portion sizes too.
Very quick service, size of meals are huge!! Very great value and delicious. Very cozy environment, feels just a tiny bit dated. Will be back many times!
As an "Express" location it does not meet the hype of the regular restaurants with the full menus. The ramen is very tasty at a good price. Staff are friendly and kitchen is quick to make your order. Interior is well lit with a comfortable wooden theme. Very quite restaurant. Needs some ambient music. Paid meters, lots and garage parking nearby. Bus stops out front. One must take a step of stairs to access restrooms. Free WiFi.
The tonkotsu is incredible
Been here twice and both times it s tasted salty and not good. Ordered the king sized ramen from Uber eats and paid 30 for pretty much regular sized ramen, no extra noodles or anything as was advertised.
Ok ramen with ok service. Nothing spectacular but gets the job done. They have tonkatsu ramen
Great pricing and very good vibe!
Delicious ramen, excellent service, great evening.
This restaurant, students like young people can t pay cash. We can use only card. I don t know reason because the owner didn t say anything. He just said no to me, even though I had asked him many times. But I have seen other people pay cash . This restaurant is Really rude. I will never come back. And onigiri is
Great Ramen! And awesome gyoza
Everything 5 stars! The food was amazing, the service was amazing, the vibes were amazing! Everything was fantastic, and at a great price! Most full that I ve been in a long time! Thank you so much for the amazing food!
The food tasted really good. The atmosphere was nice and chill.
It was my first time going and it was absolutely fantastic! I will DEFINITELY go again! Cost is reasonable, menu selection is great, service was fantastic!
Excellent experience. Came down with my sister who was a big fan of Kenzo Ramen when it was in North York before they closed but found this when were in in St Catherines. Just as good as we remembered with good portion size, great broth and Ramen that has great texture. The food came quickly and service is good. A little far from my usual food joints but will recommend if you like Ramen. I just wished there was another location closer to home.
I really like their tuske men ramen!
I dont have an issue with the food. However, this location is frequently closed during business hours. I will go to order online or dine in, and the store is closed with no note on the door.
I have been here several times with friends since coming down to St. Catherine s for school. I also used to enjoy taking my family here. I ve tried the chicken kiraage, it s very good! I ve tried multiple donburi dishes I enjoyed them a lot! My friends seem to like the ramen. I ve been here for lunch and dinner, overall great food and atmosphere. The servers are polite and attentive as well. Don t try the deconstructed ramen. Trust me. I was recommended it on a day they ran out of rice (which happens here from time to time). Small portion, bland and unappetizing. Took three bites decided to leave it at the restaurant even the friends I was with offered to take it, then tried it and declined. I wasn t angry, just disappointed. I still feel bad about wasting 20$ on that :( Stopped going out to restaurants in general after that, now I just cook. That s how disappointing this dish was. I still think about it every now and then that s why I remembered to leave this review. I am now much more conservative with my spending I hate the thought of wasting money. Now I carefully budget my groceries and meal portions. All of my purchasing habits, even clothing, have become more responsible to make what little money I have truly count. I have learned to cook big and tasty meals on a tight budget. I even began researching nutrition so I could make the cheapest meals that could sustain my health I became aware of deficits within my own diet now I eat healthier. This dish has taught me many valuable life lessons. In a way the deconstructed ramen has changed my life. Thank you, Kenzo Ramen
Its a good Ramen place to go while you are downtown St. Catharines. Its a bit small and has limited seating so you want to make sure first and call ahead. The prices are very reasonible and the staff is very friendly.
Reeeeally good ramen 10/10 would recommend.
Drove all the way from Grimsby just to come here. It was closed at 5:55pm on a Tuesday. No notice anywhere.
Quality isnt consistent. Some days its OK some its not great.
Great food quality and diverse menu
If you love Ramen, this is a place you have to try. A great bowl of soup on a cold day
Food is always amazing!! Worker is hustling, great service.
Great food and service!! Loved every bite!!!
Pretty good Quite place to enjoy your thoughts and a bowl of Ramen. Food
Broth was flavourful but noodles werent cooked through, all clumped together and tough. Better than McDonalds though...
Taste like instant noodle CUSTOMER BE AWARE!!! They will secretly add a 10% tip without customers knowledge.
Best ramen around. If you havent been you are 100% missing out. The taste of their broth is out of this world and the service is beyond exceptional. Ive basically tried every item on their menu and let me tell you, they never fail to satisfy the ramen craving. They even have other food items like Onigiri, Gyoza and other. Such a nice place, get going!
One of my favourite ramen shops in town!
The ramen was outstanding. Tasty broth and good sized portion. Definitely worth it.
The tonkatsu ramen here is my favourite! Always fast and sufficient service with yummy ramen.
Travelling to St. Catherine couple times. I tried some Japanese ramen/food. I have to say the score for this restaurant should be much better than the current reviewed. Ramen/tasty should be the best in local! The surrounding is so so, but clean enough!
Satisfied our ramen craving :) cozy place in downtown :)
Absolutely enjoyed it, not many noodle houses around. The people who run it are awesome
My favourite noodle place in the city. Food is always delicious and is served very quickly. The eating area is small, but the atmosphere is comfortable and well-lit/decorated. Service is always very friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend :)
Some of the best food I have ever had; traditional Japanese; the best service ever; great prices; wide selection; 100% satisfied in every way.
Very good ramen, the taste is amazing. The staff is helpful and polite. I had a good experience having my lunch there. The price is fair and the food portion is satisfatory. Food : 5/5 |
very delicious and very friendly treatment I recommend
Ive been here twice so far. The service is fast and food is delicious. Im a big fan of the shoyu ramen and onigiri. Wheelchair accessibility: Plenty of room for wheelchair, st Catherines streets might not have much room however.
Best ramen in town. Must try soya ramen. Prices are moderate I just loved it. #Natuto uzumaki
I always find myself coming back to this Kenzo, especially in the winter. My go-to is the shoyu or miso ramen (depending on the day) paired with salmon onigiri. The food is consistently delicious and the service is very welcoming. As with all places downtown, be wary of parking, especially on weekends.
great Chasu pork best of all Kenzo Ive tried... friendly service and fair prices
Found a mosquito in my food and was not offered a replacement. Only 15% off when I barely even touched my food. Horrible service and food has gone down hill. Never been so disgusted
I m somewhat of a regular at Kenzo s, and I ve never been as disappointed eating there as I was today. The food was fortunately as good as usual, but the service was horrendous. There is usually an older gentleman working there, who is elite at customer service. Very cheerful, checks in often, and fills your water without asking. There was a young couple working today and it felt like my presence in the shop alone was an inconvenience. I had to ask twice for water (only got it a few minutes after the food was served), and they never stopped by to even offer to refill it or check on us. They were on their phones, eating, and ignoring customers the entire time we were in there. Most likely will not be going back if I see they are working.
Got take out from Kenzo this evening. I got the Tonkotsu Ramen, which had a delicious broth. The staff was also lovely.
Very creamy broth, delicious noodles, pork and veggies on top. I especially liked the bamboo shoots and egg. Very quick service as well.
We entered the restaurant to find it was incredibly hot and humid. The waitress threw a couple menus on the table that almost slid off the other end and left without saying a word. We ordered our usual stuff, the tonkotsu and black tonkotsu soup. Theyve changed the soup to some cheap version that has none of the stickiness or flavour that youre used to. The rolled pork was, in my opinion, a chunk of beef. The eggs were extremely cooked. If you need a photo, the other high scoring reviews all show you what Im talking about. They managed to get it to look like ramen but forgot to make any of the ingredients taste good There arent many ramen restaurants in the Niagara area so since they opened, weve stopped by a couple times a year. It started the same as any other Kenzo but each time we go it feels like theres another corner cut. At this point, theyre so far from an enjoyable soup that we give up In the defense of the waiting staff, I would also be miserable working in that heat. I worked in kitchens and being over a grill stuck in a corner is one thing. You shouldnt feel that same heat as soon as you walk in the door.
Service was great and fast. Food taste was good, but I spent almost $17 on a ramen that didn t even include a full boiled egg, just half. Therefore, I consider it overpriced.
Very bland ramen. No taste of authenticity of a Japanese restaurant. More like Chinese food Very slow service. Took more than 30 minutes to receive our bill for the meal Tonkatsu is overcooked. And the rice ball is not good at all. No seaweed, not much fillings. Would not recommend. You will be wasting your money here if you had better Japanese food before
Went midweek for dinner. The menu has a variety of dishes. Everyone in our group ordered something different and everyone was happy with what they got. We found the food well represented and tasty. I prefer the chicken here to one of the more expensive restaurants in town that serves similar food.
Worst costumer service
Tonkotsu Ramen at its best! Garlic broth. Very creamy and flavourful. Pork was well seasoned and tasty. Wheelchair accessibility: Restaurant is wheelchair accessible but the washrooms are not.
Its a good place for Japanese cuisine.
Ramen was just ok.
It was OK. I didnt think the soup for the king shoyu ramen was amazingly flavourful, and the temp was still on the led than piping hot side. I take a bit of issue with the fact that a cold egg and cold chashu seemed to be plopped fridge cold into the broth, unceremoniously. For a specialist ramen place a better job can be done. Also, the metal chopsticks are impossible to eat ramen with. They need to go. The atmosphere is too quiet, punctuated by alarming dings of whatever delivery service is being used.
Quick and delicious lunch.
The worst miso soup ever. It is so hard to make miso bad but they are very successfully doing that so. For katsu, they must use the same oil for over a month. Cannot have that kind of colour and taste with good oil.
Food i good but I tried to add an order after my initial call and the guy just kept repeating he didn t speak very good English and then would hang up on me instead of ordering what I was trying to order. Hung up on me 3 times and I never managed to get the added order. Super unprofessional to just hang up the phone if you don t understand. Didn t even try to have someone else try.
Horrible experience, ordered spicy charsu ramen, wasnt spicy, it was cold, and it didnt have a seasoned egg. Our order came up to $70 for 4 ramen bowls, so expensive and no flavour
The food was meh (really fatty meat, hard noodles, luke warm broth) but the service was pretty horrendous. Other kenzo chains have been better. I m not sure if ownership has changed or not but it didn t used to be this awful when they first opened up in st Catharines. We asked to split the bill in half but he refused to and proceeded to act like we were stupid for asking. Then when it was time to pay, it s an automatic tip. I tried to ask to see the tip menu but he wouldn t let me and just kept insisting that there s only one option and I have to pay now. Overall a pretty frustrating experience. Will absolutely not be going again even if the soup was worth it (it s not).
First time here great service fair prices would go back
It was absolutely delicious will definitely be coming back
We came here out of whim to try something new. Soup was Luke warm. Toppings for the Ramen soup was cold (pork and eggs were cold) Potstickers were cold deffinatly not warmed to what it should be, microwaved heated. They still tried charging us for it even though we complained, and only one was eaten. The chef freaked at the waiter. (Not his fault) Our drinks came after the food was all served to us. There was an unknown added charge to the bills and the server couldnt explain why. The bathroom was disgusting and unsanitary. Dont go here. I will not be returning.
Not bad but small place they dont have everything from the menu.
I got tonkotsu ramen, karaage and onigiri. The tonkotsu ramen was mediocre at best. It did not have enough pork flavor. The soft boiled egg was a bit overboiled and definitely not marinated enough. Char su could be better as it seemed a bit dry and does not have much of the charred flavor. Karaage was really good. A bit oily but good. Salmon onigiri was good but the chicken one was a bad choice imo. Customer service was good and friendly.
Went in around 1pm on a Friday. Staff were very friendly and hospitable. The xl shoyu ramen was very good and very tasty, especially for such reasonable prices!
We got the Ramen and Kiragi and both were delicious and at a good price. Very slow and chill atmosphere. It totally hit the spot.
First time here and the service was quick and friendly. Food was excellent!
Amazing ramen. Authentic experience and for people who can handle their spices, try out their level 3
Its a very good restaurant. The price is fair and the quantity is filling. Ill be back very soon. Fried chicken was my favorite.
Kenzo Ramen is an authentic ramen house located in the heart of downtown St.Cathrines. The staff were very welcoming and informative. They recommend their Tonkotsu ramen which was absolutely delicious. The broth was really creamy and the pork was tender. They offer different spice levels and many options. Service was extremely quick and friendly. I will definitely be returning.
Awesome food nice people
Miso Ramen is soooo good and prices are great!
Good soul food
Good soup
Average
A truly delicious and, in my opinion, authentic experience. Very good people running this location, deserving of complete success. Ill keep going here! It would be an even better experience if I spoke Japanese.
Was barely ok . not very clean place food was not fresh meat tasted very old, no bok choy so disappointing. So we tried kenzo in Hamilton it was so good and fresh . We choose to travel from St. Catharines to Hamilton for ramen once a week. Definitely worth the drive.
Friendly customer service, good food
Having lived in Asia for 5 years, I would recommend this place for its authentic Ramen. It is what it is: a Ramen joint!
Food is great
Get this all the time. The chicken is so good and the beef dumplings are amazing! You have to wait about 10-15 min after ordering but it s worth it.
Was looking forward to trying this. Drove in from Niagara falls. Get there at 1:30pm on a Sunday and theyre closed. Sign on the door says theyre open. This is infuriating.
Very disappointed in the food
Pretty good atmosphere, however twice my brother and I didn t receive our appetizers. Only after asking did we get what we ordered. The worst part is they don t itemize your bill so you have no idea whether or not you were charged for something you never even received. Very dodgy practice.
Ordered lunch over the weekend. Generally disappointed. The dish was only ok and the price is too high for what you get. My order came with miso soup and it was cold (not lukewarm - cold). Friendly staff but not enough for me to try again
Spend $25 on a meal and asked for steak and they gave me two thin excuses of meat. I basically spent $25 on noodles and broth lol place is a joke. Don t order take out
Tastes great
Really really good ramen.
Will be back more than once!!
Amazing food and service. Atmosphere is quiet and enjoyful. The prices with the portions is WELL worth it. Definitely check them out!
So happy Kenzo is back open for dine-in! The king shoyu is a go-to favorite. Chicken karage and the dumplings are both delicious as well! Great place for good Ramen.
Great Ramen, VERY bad takeout packaging. I never understood why they keep using the flat takeout containers when the same company makes Takeout Ramen Bowls. Our restaurant serves ramen as well and we use the containers from the same company, Its just a pain to eat out of flat containers.
Food might be good, I do enjoy it, but they are horrible when it comes to ordering on skip or calling for takeout. If it is skip, they will cancel your order and then close the skip shop, causing you to lose your money and get refunded in skip credits. Credits are fine, but sometimes you dont want to order from skip after that and now you cant retrieve the money. My suggestion is...DONT CANCEL ORDERS
Yummy and fresh.
Good food, fast service.
Awesome ramen and decent place.
Quality of food so so I like Kenzo but ..not at this location.
Ordered the veggie Ramen and it is tasteless. Tasteless broth with tasteless noodles and tasteless tofu. Only thing that had flavor was two small pieces of mushroom. Also ordered a matcha tea and it was way smaller than the pic on door dash and the picture also had tapioca bubbles in it and it didnt. Very disappointing.
Amazing little spot with really great ramen and don.
Food is good and not as spectacular as you would expect for the price. The ambiance of the place is not as pleasant, too. Some other nearby Japanese or Korean restaurants may be a better choice.
good
Taste just average.
Really yummy! Each time Ive been there Ive had a great experience. Great food.
Ordered 2 x shoyu basic ramen and side dumplings...SO DELICIOUS!!! will be back again :)
Food is delicious here.
Their Ramen is really good, and the price is great. The atmosphere is comfortable, and wait times arent bad at all.
I absolutely adore Kenzo Ramen. My only regret is I wish I could eat more!
Great Ramen! Broth has good flavors and not salty!
Ramen was good!
Delicious food
Great ramen and great service
Not really Japanese cuisine like Chinese cuisine. Miso is really bad.
Very quick service and really good food! Will definitely go again.
Best ramen in the neighbourhood!
Low effort put into this ramen. Portions are small for the price.
My personal favorite Ramen joint hands down
Fast and Good Ramen.....3 Yrs ago 4 stars 3 Years after my first review we happened to be back dinning in. The food was not as good as it opens, Covid 19 changes the landscape but we can not ignore the cleanliness of restaurant. We are very disappointed on overall cleanliness inside the restaurant, floors are not properly clean, dust on walls and windows and the room is dark at night you can t see the food. We really like Ramen so we hope they can improve and maintain the restaurant and improve the overall experience.
Great quality and service.
Super helpful staff! Wasnt sure about how spicy their ramen was so the person who was helping us out offered to bring the peppers on the side (so I could add as much or little as I could handle!). The food itself was delicious and portion size is generous!
The ramen and karaage was great. I recommend it! By the way this was the King Shoyu ramen.
Fairly certain my husband got food poisoning from here. It tasted good at the time but he was violently ill afterwards. I wouldn t say it was the cleanest place we ve ever been to.
I dont usually write reviews but my experience at Kenzo was really bad. The gyoza was very clearly freezer burned. They were all stuck together, slimy and under cooked on one side and hard as rock on the other. The meat had a medicine taste according to my daughter and I agree. The miso ramen base was flavorless, other than a hint of dish water. The pork shoulder in the ramen was flavorless and very dry. To top it all off, the rice was undeecooked. It was hard, like crunchy hard. My family and I were really excited to go out for ramen, we havent gone out during the pandemic but we thought wed support a local business. Its really unfortunate that in a time when businesses can use all the support they can get, Kenzo served us such poor quality food. Will not go back.
Im a Japanese so I know at least what tastes good and doesnt. Ramen here tastes as same as the Intant ramen I brought from Japan
Amazing food and great service!!
Delightful ramen experience for all three of us, thank you !
TLDR: A cheap and sastisying way to get Ramen in downtown St. Catharines. As a chain restuarant, service is often non-existent and many menus items are unavailable for long period of time with little explanation. Kenzo Ramen is our downtown St. Catharines branch that serves up many a tasty little bowl of salty, spicy, and sweet dishes. It was actually my introduction to Ramen which I have since happily broadened my experience with such a fantastic dish! I have since returned on several occasions to Kenzo to repeatedly find myself wanting for service as staff is often non-existent or browsing the computer terminal in the back until you walk up and ask for additional service. In addition to this the menu always seems to have a randomly rotating series of menu items that are just unavailable for any length of time. Their cheesecake being the most notorious for this. These items are also all advertised with no direction to let you know they are unavailable leading to a rather comedic ordering service when I was tried to order two things in a row, both of which were unavailable. If you simply want a simple style bowl of Ramen, Kenzo here can get you a quick fix but otherwise I would love to see some growth from this branch.
Delicious Ramen. Both the veg and the Tonkotsu were delicious. The atmosphere could be nicer and there could be more condiments on hand. But otherwise it was a quick a tasty meal.
Ordered a schnitzel with salad. Would order again.
Absolute miserable server working here. Hes so rude and a complete unprofessional.
Friendly service and yummy noodles!
Best. Ramen. Ever
Great ramen at an awesome price. Go everytime Im in Niagara. 9 bucks for decent sized bowl of shoyu. Extra noodles/egg fair price as well.
The best Ramen Ive had, hottest place on earth though, owners need to invest in AC otherwise 5 stars. I feel bad for the cooks/workers
Amazing Ramen, full of flavour, very recommended, but for the sake of the workers and customers get A/C in this place before the public shuns you.
It s so delicious, I didn t think of taking a photo until I was almost done eating
Best ramen Ive ever had hands down!
Very good. Tasted authentic.
Always out of menu items.
A great toronto staple here in Niagara
Not the best place to have some ramen. It was stuffy and hot at the restaurant; metal shopsticks are extremely hard to use when eating noodles. The ramen itself was just average with lack of meat and flavor.
Great taste, noodles are perfect
Today they appeared not to care about exceptional customer service. I hope this was a one off thing. Hope others do not have the same experience.
While the service was good, the atmosphere was very average. The music didnt fit the environment. The meals were filling and the taste was just ok nothing special. My friend ordered the 6 pieces of gyozas and they came all stuck to one another, probably left on the fryer for too long. Overall not bad for a quick cheap meal but definitely not a place to make an outing out of.
Best ramen in st Catharines!
Tasty Tonkotsu ramen
Love the food but the staff sometimes leave an hour early so instead of closing at 9, it closes at 8 or 7:30. Great food though.
Great Ramen, Great Taste, Great Staff.
Best ramen house in the city. Takeout is great but the real experience is eating in.
Always a warm and inviting atmosphere, great for getting out of the cold and enjoying a consistantly good bowl of ramen.
