10 Market St, St. Catharines, ON L2R 5C6, Canada
Seafood & steaks are the specialties of this polished, maritime-themed eatery..
Lovely restaurant and attentive staff which is to be expected for the price. Had a great evening with wonderful friends. We enjoyed the grilled calamari which was cooked perfectly (not overdone or chewy) the cesar salad and chateaubriand steak which was very tender.
Extraordinary! This place has been on my bucket list for about 40 years, but I heard it was expensive. It was worth every penny! EVERYTHING was cooked to perfection, the Cuban lobster was SO tender, the beef perfect, the fresh vegetables awesome... I couldn't rave more. The room had a romantic, elegant ship theme complete with brass portals. The background music and murmer of other guests simply made an ordinary dinner into an intimate occation. They even knew how to make the consummate chocolate martini! The exceptional SERVICE made us feel like royalty. The waiter laid out the table with rare meticulous care and wisked away the plates like the wind replacing them with a palate of pleasure. Many times over it was recommended to me to be the best place for the most special of occasions. Well, life is short, every day alive is special. Highly recommended, you should savor the distinctive quality of the Blue Mermaid Seafood & Steak House.
The food at this restaurant was fantastic. We had surf and turf and a tableside Cesar salad. Our waiter, Gus was fantastic. I would definitely recommend this place.
This place has a Nice look but the food is disgusting. I came for a date and had surf and turf. The steak was the blandest piece of meat I have ever tasted, the lobster was gross without an ounce of freshness. It was obviously frozen and the entire time I was daydreaming about red lobster Ironically. I ordered a Margarita assuming it was a high end fancy restaurant and obviously would serve a classic Margarita. WRONG. The drink was the color of bright green lime kool-aid. This "fancy restaurant" served margarita mix as a margarita, so I instead got white wine (also gross but drinkable if you pinch your nose). The chocolate mousse cake was like week old refrigerated discount walmart cake, was not moussey at all. So disappointed. Our entree took at leas 35-40 minutes to come out, we were starving not trying to fill up on the onion shlop they serve us and the bread. And then to top it off at the end of the meal I was offered a bottle by our secondary waiter, Not our primary waiter the more season gentleman (he was a gem and totally innocent) the second younger bald waiter offered to get me a bottle to take out my large amount of wine I had not yet drank...which I thought was fine since many restaurants will give you the wine bottle and let you cork it and take it out the restaurant ( this is what I assume he meant). WRONG!!! all of my assumptions were wrong at this place. DO NOT BE LIKE ME!! AVOID THIS PLACE IF YOU LIKE FLAVOUR FOOD. So back to the bald waiter offering a bottle for me to transport my wine from the restaurant, naturally i'm thinking he is about to bring me a wine bottle since i got a half liter. He brought a crumpled up empty rinsed out plastic water bottle.🤢... And then when he sense my skepticism he assured me it was a clean bottle that he just dumped out, so i reluctantly agreed at which point he turned to my date who had already settled the bill and said "good luck with that". This place is disgusting. I could have said A LOTTTTTT more at the time but I am only comfortable sending 1 item back per sitting if i go out and don't like something. more than that i feel like i'm being difficult even though people have the right to like the food they buy, ESPECIALLY IF IT IS HIGHER PRICED. Anyway i will never be back the short bald waiter has no idea how to wait on customers. the only thing that was good was the free garlic bread . never again
Another wonderful dining experience here at the Blue Mermaid. The whole staff was warm and welcoming and the food was outstanding. Our waiter Gus was nothing less than spectacular in every way. Please trust me you won’t be disappointed.
I went to the Blue Mermaid for the first time. Being a resident of Niagara, I always heard great things about it. I would have to say that my experience was to the contrary. The steak my husband ordered was thin, overcooked, and not the prime rib the waiter tried to convince him it was. The cost of the steak was $75.00. I had the chicken. The gravy was no better than a canned, thick, and salty chicken gravy. This dish was close to $40. The service was disappointing as well. We had a waiter who was rude, pushy, and interrupted our party on several occasions. We felt pressured to hurry our dinner, and felt as if we didn’t belong there. I would have to say, I would rather a winery experience, as the food is better-priced, of higher quality, and much better service. I will never recommend the Blue Mermaid to anyone wishing to have an exceptional experience.
Great, local white table cloth steakhouse in St. Catharines. Personally preferred the laid-back lounge, but apparently that's been closed. Nevertheless, they've brought the piano upstairs to create a cozier atmosphere. We thoroughly enjoyed our appetizers and mains; however would have preferred the gravy on the side. Otherwise, another delightful evening at Blue Mermaid.
Wow! Best meal, service and atmosphere I have ever experienced in the Niagara Region. They treat you like royalty no matter who you are. The food was out of this world and I just loved the restaurant itself. Outside isn't much to look at but once inside, just wow. First class. Can't wait for next years birthday!
I feel like I am a guest in their home!!
This is an overrated place and has a bad ambience. Owner and servers lacks ettiquetes. Food quality is inferior and overpriced. Portions are small.
Blue mermaid is my favourite! The food, the atmosphere, the service, everything is amazing! Best dining experience around by far!!
My boyfriend and I went to the Blue Mermaid for dinner. It was great! The oyster rockefeller and steak that I had was delicious! The gentleman on the piano was lovely as well. This is a bit of a hidden gem that I feel lucky to have discovered! Highly recommend!
Arrived on time for our reservation. Front house server mumbled something then ushered us to a corner table by the busy kitchen door when more desirable seating was available. I Paid $75 for what was supposed to be a 12 oz striploin. Looked more like a 8-10 oz. It came with a tiny potato cut in half and two whole baby carrots. Overpriced mediocre food. I went looking for a classic upscale steakhouse dinning experience and left disappointed . It seems that the Blue Mermaid is antiquated and due for a much needed change.
This is a must go to restaurant! Nick and his staff are amazingly attentive, the food exquisite and the restaurant ambience is so cozy and intimate. The Ceasar Salad, Chateau Briande and the Baked Alaskan dessert are mouthwatering and all made at your table. Its wonderful and the comraderie with the staff is so entertaining. Every time we visit the Niagara region, this is THE restaurant we go to! Dont miss out. Go and experience this fantastic, family-owned restaurant!!! Sharon J.
Not my favourite restaurant. Food was very expensive - it tasted okay but was small servings.
Great family feel. With great food.
If I could, I d rate higher than 5 stars!
Wheelchair accessibility: Not accessible for w/c Many stairs into dining room and to rest room. Food : 5/5
Excellent old fashion friendly service. The surf and turf sandwich combination was delicious and perfectly done. A bit on the pricey side but well worth it. Kelly provided great service and owner Nick was a delight.
Food is always excellent and service is impeccable. Nick and Kelly handled a busy room seemingly effortlessly. Been coming for over 40 yrs, never disappointed.
I got the dover sole and my boyfriend got the sea bass. Both were cooked perfectly, and were overall amazing. Service was great. Would definitely go again.
Simply the best place in the region for fine dinning. Great food, great atmosphere and a staff that want to make sure they met all of your expectations.
We came for our wedding anniversary with some friends. The atmosphere was lovely. The pianist was interactive with the room. The table side salad was delicious, the entree was made exactly as ordered. The table side dessert was an entertaining moment and very much enjoyed. My only critique would be the seasoning of the vegetables was a bit bland and the portion sizes of the sides were a bit small but thats being picky as everything was still very delicious. Thanks for an enjoyable evening!
Favourite steak and seafood restaurant in the region hands down! I have been coming here with my parents for decades and have not once been disappointed. Service is always impeccable, food is cooked perfectly. A great place to celebrate birthday, anniversaries or any function!
I had the Filet Mignon cooked perfectly. The pepper sauce was very flavorful. The baked Alaska was wonderful. The staff were very friendly. Would recommend the Blue Mermaid for lunch or dinner. A date night, special event, or just a night out with friends.
Went for Valentines Day with my fiance. I started with the lobster bisque, which was amazing!! I make this dish myself and the chef blew mine away easily!! Than I had the surf and turf. While the lobster and steak were cooked correctly, for 80 bucks a plate I expected more of it. I found 1 lobster tail and a smallish steak not quite meeting my expectations. The service was excellent, always nice to see.
Amazing! The whole experience was amazing. The atmosphere the food the staff. I had the fresh Atlantic salmon. If you are a fish eater then try this simple yet tasty dish! I 100% recommend!!
We had our anniversary dinner here with my kids. The food was delicious. In particular, I enjoyed the Caesar salad, the seafood (we had shrimps) and the soup. The hosts were courteous and playful with the kids.
lack of prices on the menu lead us to select a different restaurant. owners should post prices online unless there s a reason to not post them . unfortunate.
Literally the best fine dining in Niagara. The food was some of the best my family and I ever tasted, absolutely incredible chefs there, and the service was awesome too! GO already! Food : 5/5
Outstanding meal last night! Fresh oysters, snow crab, escargot, rib steak and cherries jubilee were all top notch. Service & atmosphere were excellent too. Definitely the best high end restaurant in the region.
Great steaks and the best service in the city.
Everything was beyond our expectations Specifically the pianist, he takes you to a different world. Food
Always top shelf - would highly recommend
Amazing food. Amazing staff.
I enjoyed the food. Service was excellent. But...soup and a glass of wine 40.00 not including tip? Im too old fashioned. Thats too much
I have never written a restaurant review however I had such a good experience here it was worth taking the time. Lovely atmosphere, great service, very personable. Reminds me of better times where fine dining was just that, ceaser salad prepared at your table, they even have cherries jubilee on the menu which is also prepared at the table and delicious. A little pricey yes but so worth it , nice touch with gentleman playing piano.
Went there last night for Mothers Day -most disgusting meal that the entire group had in a very long time.Salmon dried out and tasteless, tenderloin steak sliced, cold and smothered in tasteless gravy-not at all what was expected.Plating of food very pedestrian for the cost.Gave it another chance after another disappointing meal in September for a milestone Birthday. Will not return!
Parking: If you go after 6pm and or on weekends parking free Recommended dishes
Our entire experience was exceptional from welcome at the door by the owner Nick, to our thank you for coming. The food was amazing, the relish tray was a nice touch and the lobster bisque soup was the best Ive ever had. Our waitress was top notch! I had the seafood platter, everything was cooked to perfection Yes, you pay for this experience, but definitely worth it!!!
Waiters were outstanding and the food was absolutely worth the money!
For the price, Im sorry I expected more. The service should have been better. I think we saw 5 different people come to our table. And 1 even made a comment about our first server, that came right after we were seated. And some main dish items were a bit pricey. But if your going to charge that much for lamb. Dont serve new Zealand!!!!
Everything was just excellent. Unlike a lot of fine restaurants, you wont leave hungry.
Love the food.
Awesome sole amondine.
Incredible sea bass entree. Lobster bisque app was also delicious. Excellent service.
The food was nice and so was the atmosphere. I just felt the prices were a bit high for the quality.
Had never been here and will not go back. The staff seemed very judgy and cold. They were making lots of conversation with tables around ours but barely spoke to me and my boyfriend. COVID protocols not followed. No vaccine checks, staff not wearing masks, guests walking in without masks and nobody saying anything. The food was fine but honestly not worth the price. Will not be going again.
Great experience. Thanks. For others who are afraid of humans being humans, stay home
I had escargot and delicious lobster lamb lollipops were succulent!!! Absolutely amazing
Great food. Great service. Always an enjoyable experience
I had the privilege of dining at this spectacular restaurant just a few days ago..being from the East Coast of Canada (Newfoundland) I im very picky on where I eat seafood..but seeing the special of the evening was Cod I figured I would at least give it a try...im very happy I did, it was some of the best if not the best cod I have ever eaten anywhere and btw I travel all over Canada and the U.S for work..it certainly went above my expectations..my friend had the new york strip steak dinner which i also had the opportunity to sample and it to was done to perfection and can stand up against any steak house around, everything from the Greek salad to the main course to the dessert was served with professionalism and certainly satisfied the taste buds..my hat is off to Nick and the staff at this fine restaurant..Thank you for the very satisfying meal and a service second to none. This is a local own restaurant in St Catharines and I would highly recommend it to anyone...and thank you Ray Wilkes for introducing me to this local gem..
Best pizza ever
The best food and service I ve had in a very long time! All of the employees are so friendly and go above and beyond to make sure your experience is top notch. The food is to die for. It s the perfect resturaunt to celebrate a special occasion!
My parents and I have been coming here annually for years and have never been disappointed. Gus is awesome and always entertaining and the food is delicious. Chateaubriand is delicious and so was the baked Alaska!
I still talk about the delicious meals we have had there over the last special occasions we have had there! Word of mouth you will not be disappointed in the food! From the complimentary bread and olive dish in the beginning, to the main course of delicious steak and salmon.. desserts.. great servers it is worth it and the bill we never bat an eye at!;P The server even gave us a boosta for our newborn! .. Now that is service!
Blue Mermaid is the ultimate fine dining experience in Niagara. The food is exquisite; the service is exceptional; the ambiance is first class. We always take family, friends and out of town guests to the Blue Mermaid and they always leave a lasting positive impression on everyone. After experiencing Blue Mermaid, it s hard to imagine celebrating any special occasion anywhere else ever again. On top of all that, listening to and joking around with the piano player is a blast every time, and talking and joking with Gus makes you feel like you ve been friends a lifetime.
Food was good but not exceptional. I kinda expected exceptional for the prices.
This restaurant gets only one star from me for one reason: The manager. I took my 88 year old mother there for dinner in March. Our waiter was lovely. They had a wonderful piano player who had been playing there for years. He was almost as old as my mother but completely charming. The problem came when we ordered our food. My mother and I both love East Coast lobster and were delighted to find lobster tails on the menu. She ordered one and I ordered the two tail option. When they arrived, we were dismayed to find they were rock lobster. We immediately summoned the waiter who apologized but said he could not bring us something else without asking the manager. The manager came over and said it was our fault for not asking. I told him that in Canada, our lobsters come from the East Coast and lobster is lobster. If its not lobster its, rock lobster from the south which is not the same thing and any other restaurant ive ever been to specifies rock lobster since its not even native. He then told me that the menu did specify Rock Lobster. Which it did - for a completely different dish in a different column. But frankly that only proves my point - that if he specified in one place and didnt in the other, the natural assumption is that the unspecified is the native Canadian lobster. He refused to make any adjustment. Our waiter came back and told us he was embarrassed and sorry for our treatment. I later heard him and two other of the wait staff talking about how upset they were with the manager for his behaviour. My wifes meal which was a Dover Sole was fine. Nothing special but nothing wrong with it. My escargot appetizer was old school and what youd expect. No complaints about the actual cooking of food, but nothing that blew me away either.
Google says 10pm, I arrive and the cook wasn t there. Very apologetic, but don t lie on your opening times. Very disappointing since I was looking forward to the food and we weren t from the area, drove 30 mins from a hotel in Niagara Falls.
Great place, great ppl we ll be back!
Really nice spot
Very nice atmosphere. Feel like fine dining in middle of market square. Very fancy staff. Looking to make someone feel special. This is the place to go.
There is still such a thing as class and supreme customer service! Skip the Keg and Ruths! Pleasantly visit the gem of St. Catharines! You dont hang around for 45 years without top notch customer service! A rare find! The food is nothing less than excellent! Delicious, no matter what you order! The King Crab Legs are served as if you were in fact, a King! You dont even have to crack them! An absolutely wonderful experience! My go to until I die! Bravo Blue Mermaid!
Incredible service and food! This place is top notch! Went with a few friends and no complaints. Every course was exceptional! Plus the service was impeccable! These folks know how to take care of people!
I was there for dinner, Food is good but pricey, it is a very nice restaurant though.
Food is good. The ceaser salad is the only reason I would go back. Small mignon for $65 for a surf and turf. On the menu stated $18 for oysters were charged $24 and when we questioned the lovely waitress we could hear the manager yell at her that prices fluctuate. Understandable but then explain that first. 6 oysters for $24 is quite a bit. Hearing the manager yell at her was disturbing. He finally came over and barely apologized for not telling us the cost difference. I didnt care about the $6 it was the fact the way the manager spoke to the server was absolutely not warranted. Wont go back anytime soon. Treat your staff better and your customers. Guess because we werent regulars we didnt matter since once all the regulars came in it was all hugs and attention and we were just left in a corner.
Amazing atmosphere for an outstanding meal. The staff is superb and a step above anything else you ll find in town. Highly recommended, dress well and bring a tip for the live pianist.
Invited my clients to this restaurant and was very happy with the service and the food! Very charming atmosphere.
Surprisingly fancy, Im from out of town so I didnt know. But they were great and I had the steak sandwich which was awesome.
Went here for my girlfriends birthday. We are new to St. Catharines and everyone raved about how great Blue Mermaid was. After $400, for an app, 2 entree and 4 drinks total, I would much rather go to other places locally. The food was fine - not great - dated. We were by far the youngest customers there by about 20 years. The service was fine, in fact it was exceptional. But the food and atmosphere was nowhere near what we paid. Lobster was a little rubbery and over done. Steak was... Fine. Not special. Not worth what you pay. Overall... Fine. Not worth the cash. Way better other spots around.
I was treated to a lovely dinner at The Blue Mermaid. Dinner here is like a trip back in time, classic and special. If this was your favourite restaurant 30 years ago, I ll bet not much has changed since then (except for the menu prices which were pretty high). We both had the Chilean sea bass. The portion of fish was generous, it was cooked nicely and the accompanying vegetables were good. Service was more formal than your everyday restaurant, but still warm, friendly and personable. I m glad they re still going strong. Tradition and nostalgia are important in the hospitality game.
Very nice place
Amazing food and service, with perfectly cooked house striploins. It has become my favourite steakhouse in St Catherines Food
This restaurant offers the lost art of fine dining. Food is amazing, best Dirty Martino in town. Cesar salad, oysters, steak, lobster tail paired with an amazing California wine suggested by the staff. Ended the meal with dessert and a Blue Mermaid coffee. Quality service and food in an old school atmosphere. We love this restaurant.
Food is pricey, but does not meet the quality. $130 for 8oz lobster, as per the waiter. It does not indicate 16oz on the menu for $130.
Service, food and environment was fantastic. I am only rating it a 4 because of location
I enjoy the Blue Mermaid for thé quality of food wine list is great and markup is less than other establishments I utilize this restaurants for entertaining clients also a special place for my wife and I to enjoy a spectacular meal together . Great Place !!!!! Parking: Private parking beside the restaurant
As we are vulnerables and it was my wifes birthday we phoned in and they were most accomodating to us and we were able to do curbside pickup. My wife had most superb meal she has several food intolerances not to mention my own meal. It was so special to have an amazing meal even if it was from home. It was definitely made the evening special. Thank you, Nick, Tom and Viera and all who work at the Blue Mermaid. You made my wifes birthday feel very special!
The atmosphere was so amazing, the customers service is that best, I was so amazed how they welcome us,it was our first time and we didnt know how fancy the restaurant was and we bought our children what a mess.they still treat us amazing even asking if we wanted the bottle warmed up THATS WHAT YOU CALL CUSTOMERS SATISFIED so recommend.I will be going again with the kids at home.
Great food.
Great food and service. Nick and his son do a great meal whatever you order
Friendly staff awesome food and nice atmosphere.
Wonderful evening, lovely dinner for my birthday.
Great food but horrible service. Servers didnt even wear masks properly. It was hard to get attention from server. But food was ok
Great Old School STEAK House. My Waiter was Fantastic and Nick the owner a real Gentleman. This Jack from Grimsby Ontario, and if you havent been to Blue Mermaid go to downtown St Catherines, its 5 star all the way. Also a Great Piano player super Nice Guy and he takes requests. I will be back next week. I love it.
Fantastic service and excellent food! If you like Ceasar salad a must try!! A most go if in the area
A bit disappointed. Calamari was rubbery and tough. Dover sole was delicious but I think I was supposed to get a sauce, which didnt happen. Just not as good as other times.
I was a bit disappointed. Staff not wearing masks properly or not at all was unsettling. Food was good but not like I remember.
This place is great for seafood and steak. Staff were friendly
The best restaurant in town and service is amazing.
I am disappointed. Not worth it. Very average tasting.
The service is very slow and the food is just so so . The lighting is very dark The food here is not as good as expected
Absolute professional service. Price per plate it very high, but this is the kind of place where its actually worth it.
THE veal marcela is not their best dish. Stick with the surf and turf.
We enjoyed a wonderful dinner here. Amazing food and service. We ll be back!
Been coming here with my family for many years - and they ve been coming for over 35 years. Arrived last night and wasn t asked for vaccine status. Upon sitting down noticed that there were two staff members without masks, mingling with the clientele. Our server was wearing her mask under her mouth and the other staff member wore his mask under his nose. We felt extremely uncomfortable as we were dining with my elderly grandmother, and COVID numbers have been on the rise in Ontario, reaching numbers that are the largest since May. Unfortunately we decided to leave before ordering, and when we politely let the staff know why we were leaving he replied by saying that he was exempt from wearing a mask. We are not exempt from contracting/spreading COVID and there was not a single staff member wearing their masks properly. When dining out at a high class restaurant I expect to be taken care of, but the staff last night could not even bother to do their part to keep me and my family safe from a deadly disease. Be aware if you visit that they are not following COVID guidelines.
excellent food, old class service!!!
Walk in and walked out within 15 min. We were ignored at the door for an unreasonable amount of time. The hostess was unpleasant and cold as ice. Can t speak to the food, but the service was absolutely snooty and rude. No thank you. Hire a new host to greet your guests with the friendliness and professionalism that your guests, who are about to pay for a nice meal, deserve. Will never spend my birthday here again. There are better places to go in Niagara.
I was excited to show my girlfriend this place, because of the piano music. I remember enjoying Eddies piano playing the last time I was here. I also remembered the rude service with the waitress ignoring us, but I decided to give it one more shot. We arrived and no one was there to seat us except for the waitress who was too busy to help. There was only one group of people - the place was quite desolate - thats fine, because less people means better attention, right? Wrong. Girlfriend asked waitress about lighter options on the menu and the waitress acted rude and condescending. Came my turn to order and I asked about appetizers without cheese and she pretty much scoffed at me, which was a big difference from the professional manner in which we were treated with at the restaurants we dined at the nights before. Despite the rude behavior from the waitress we acted polite and were mostly ignored. And Im sorry to say the food was so very average. Her scallops were bland and my veal tasted like a TV dinner. And the bill was $120 with the undeserved tip. If it wasnt for the piano music we would have walked out. I wonder what this restaurant will do once its loyal 70+ crowd is no longer around. Plenty of better options in the area: Wellington Court, Keg, Old Firehall, Moose and Pepper...etc. Hell, I experience more professionalism at pubs. I dont like giving bad reviews. I can stand bellow average food. But I cant stand paying $120 and being treated rudely.
Good restuarant for small city of St Catherines
My favorite: healthy and tasty fish and fresh veggies every day at lunch.
Amazing night excellent service and food. Thank you
The food was, as its been in our other visits very good, the servers are real pros and are at a level matched by very few restaurants anywhere. There is still a place in our world for a tradition classic restaurant that my parents would appreciate and love. See you again soon. Cheers
I enjoyed an evening downstairs with a friend sitting at your bar side. Enjoying the calm atmosphere while a gentleman plays beautiful piano music in the background. The drinks are delicious to start. We ordered Greek salads, garlic bread with steak and bernaise sauce on th side. An evening that made magical memories for me that Ill never forget . Thank you
One of the most pleasant dining experiences I have had in years. I was in St. Catherines for one night only and this place was recommended by several of the locals. They have been in business since 1974 and have maintained a very high standard in everything they do. Everything we (my wife, daughter, and I) ordered was excellent. The staff were very professional, courteous, and efficient. The main dining room on the upper level has a warm, relaxing atmosphere to enhance the dining experience. On the lower level is a large piano bar, a great place to relax with a drink.
Visiting the Blue Mermaid is like stepping back in time, and that is a sincere compliment. Suited waiters, white table cloths, custom cruiser plates... cherries jubilee flambéd at your table! I couldn t believe my eyes. We ordered a shrimp cocktail (because you have to) and steaks. Laughed a lot. After dinner, we went downstairs to the piano bar for a cocktail and to listen to Fast Eddie (his presumed name) on the piano. Dude s a local institution. Much fun was had at the Blue Mermaid.
Fantastic service and great food. Will go again.
We decided to go for a nice night out without the children and chose to have dinner here. We both ordered, oysters and escargot for our appetizers and the Surf and Turf for our entrees. The food, drinks, service and overall experience was lovely as always. Looking forward to our next visit.
Old school dining. Wonderful Baked Alaska
Wonderful dining and service
Always amazing food and service
Try the veal, but also get the shrimp Poseidon plus table side ceaser salad.
Elegant, classy 70s ambience. Gus was awsome , took care of us. The steaks are out of this world, also tried the lamb. Its tucked in the middle of downtown St Catharines.
Steak sandwich was ordered Med. rare received rare in most of it. Lobster sandwich was presented like a grilled cheese with white bread. There were only bits of Lobster in the sandwich. Very expensive $97 lunch. Not worth it.
Great food and company
Good food ...place is dated somewhat .
too bad closed
This resturant is the definition of dont judge a book by its cover you wouldnt know it from the outside but it is nothing but elegant inside. The decor, service and cuisine are 5 star. One of the best steaks in the city. Highly recommed for special occasion if you want a break from a franchise steak house and support local business.
Fantastic food, good portions, and the tiger shrimp I had were so large they were practically tiny lobsters!
Really enjoyed the live piano downstairs at the bar. Great food and awesome service. Thank you for a great night out.
Always wonderful
We dined in the main dining room upstairs, not the lounge. We tried the Centennial platter and filet mignon. The platter had lots of seafood with warmed butter for dipping. The seafood was cooked properly, i.e. fully cooked but still tender and not chewy. The platter consisted of lobster tail, a large shrimp, scallops, oyster, and a king crab leg. The filet was delicious as was the accompanying bearnaise sauce but I will order the steak rare next time as medium-rare was a little too overcooked. Both meals were accompanied with vegetables - simple but tasty, and the asparagus was not stringy at all. This place is not cheap but its classy and a lovely place for a special occasion.
Really good seabass and lobster tails. Thats what we had. The lobster tails were admazing!!!! Omg
The Chilean Sea Bass was cooked to perfection and service was on point. If youre in Niagara, I recommend you pop in for dinner at an old school seafood/steakhouse.
Outstanding
I came to St Catherine s for tourism and found this place as the best fine dining in town. However the steak was a disappointment. The exterior was so burned that each bite of it tasted bitter. Besides, we asked the steak to be done medium but it was too raw. The good part was that The onion soups was a bit too salty, and they charged that off from my bill.
Always a fabulous dining experience. Thanks to Tommy and Nick Amazing food, service and atmosphere.
Its been years since visiting this fantastic restaurant. Amazing food, great service and awesome company. Some things never change (for the good).
The service was awesome, Dave made us feel like we were at home. I ordered the New York strip steak (medium)... came out just the way I imagined juice and tender the sauteed shrimp was amazing as well. Highly recommend... very upscale and eloquent.
Great food. I tried Sod and it was wonderful.
Was there last night the food was amazing the service spectacular and elegant
We had an excellent experience. The surf and turf option (steak and lobster trail) for only $45 was a fantastic meal and deal! The casear salad was one of the best Ive ever had, great entrees, and ended with a delicious Chocolate Mousse and ice cream. We will be back.
Outstanding Chilean Sea Bass. Loved the prep of the caesar salad at the table.
Went for dinner with dad and brother on a week night around 7pm. It was my first time there and I had a very good experience. The day/time was not very busy, and the ambiance was very high end. I find this to be similar to Salvatores Italian Gardens restaurant in the US. The meal sizes were relatively good, not too small but could always be bigger. Definitely recommend this as a fancy dinner option
EVEN THOUGH I PLANNED A SPECIAL DINNER WITH MY SON AT THE BLUE MERMAID SEAFOOD AND STEAK HOUSE I DIDNT EAT BUT I DID TRY.. I ORDERED FILET MIGNON AT $45 AND I WAS SERVED AN END PIECE..ITS WAS TOUGH AND GRAINY..SO DISSAPPOINTED I SENT IT BACK AND CHEF SENT A MESSAGE TO ME THRU THE WAITER THAT CUSTOMERS DO NOT GET TO CHOOSE THE CUT OF THE FILET..I ASKED FOR THE CHEF TO COME OUT AND SPEAK TO ME BUT OF COURSE HE DIDNT..I REORDERED A NEW YORK STEAK..BY THE TIME THE NEW YORK ARRIVED MY SON WAS DONE HIS DINNER..I BELIEVE THEY COOK THEIR STEAKS FROM FROZEN FOR WHEN I CUT INTO IT NOT A DROP OF JUICE CAME OUT EVEN THOUGH I ORDERED MEDIUM RARE.. WE SPENT $148 BUT I DIDNT HAVE DINNER FOR I TOOK THE STEAK HOME, MY SON WAS DONE AND THE STEAK AT THAT POINT DIDNT LOOK THAT APPEALING TO ME...NOTHING WAS COMPED NOR OFFERED, WE WERE EVEN CHARGED FOR A DESSERT..THE ONLY PERSON THAT CARED IN THAT RESTAURANT LAST NIGHT WAS THE WAITER, KITCHEN DIDNT CARE, MANAGER (WHO IS THE SON OF THE OWNER FOR SURE DIDNT CARE..WHEN I APPROACHED THIS SON OF OWNER/MANAGER HE CALMLY SAID HE DIDNT FEEL HE NEEDED TO COMP ANYTHING...NO I DID NOT LIKE THIS RESTAURANT AT ALL..
Great food
First class service and food, If you want to take your wife or girlfriend out for gourmet food this is the place to do it. Great ambience, and lovely bar downstairs to finish your evening with a drink and a chat. Consistenly good restaurant. with great managment and attentive staff.
Ordered a filet mignon and was given the end cut with lots of nerves. Sent it back and management was very abrasive over us not liking such an expensive cut of meat. When we mentioned it was the end cut of the filet they had said that we cannot choose the cut to give you. It is clear that whilst charging high prices for their steaks, they do NOT provide good service. Manager on duty was owners son. Hate to see great businesses get ruined by nepotism.
Just awesome delicacies
Great night..intimate atmosphere great food
Atmosphere was great. Food was delicious. Had a lovely evening.
We tried the blue mermaid for the first time today. when we walked in the place was eerily empty. we walked into the lounge and there was no one to seat us or even a bartender or server in site. If it wasnt for the 1 other couple sitting in the restaurant then we would have turned around and walked out. This place has the feel of swiss chalet in the 80s. severely outdated decor/menu. The food was pretty good which is why i am giving it 2 stars but the thing i cant get over is how expensive it is for what you get. I wouldnt mind paying $24 for a lobster sandwich if it came with more than 6 fries and was on sliced bread. the prices dont match the value and thats the biggest beef I have with this place. we spent over $50 and when we got home i had to et something because I was still hungry. Would not recommend. Go to sobeys, its the same quality.
Awesome piano bar. Eddie Pizzo is the best.
Service and food is excellent. The steak sandwich melts in your mouth!!
Came in for dinner while in town for a concert. Reminds me of Barberians in Toronto. The service was great, the staff were very friendly and the food was delicious. They have some of the best Lobster Bisque Ive had. Will definitely come back if were in town again!
Classy!
Very good food. Nice clean happy place. With knowledgeable staff
Everything was delicious
Very good meal. Appetizers were great. Filet Mignon was tender and cooked perfectly.
Fantastic experience, great food and great atmosphere.
Amazing food, staff and atmosphere. A must if youre in downtown St. Catharines
The food is perfection. The staff is more than friendly and impeccable in their manners and hospitality. If I could give them more than 5 stars I would. Cant say enough good things about it.
Great seafood and streaks. Staff was wonderful. An iconic restaurant in downtown St Catharines.
Wow....Amazing
Food was real good, service was kind of slow waited about 45 minutes for my steak. Only downfall. Place is pretty pricey steak and 2 beers cost me 65 bucks but it was well worth it apart from the long wait.
Good food, good service. Pleasant and relaxing atmosphere.
One my favourite restaurants. Service is great, food is always perfectly cooked.
The service ,food and presentations were excellent. Highly recommend.
They told us theyve been in business 41 years and you can understand why. In this day of franchise food experiences this truly one of a kind dining experience! Quiet, relaxing decor, amazing food and excellent, old fashioned service. We loved the place and look forward to another visit. This time starting in the piano bar before another amazing dinner.
Fine dining restaurant with a dark chill vibe to it. Delicious food will have you coming back again for sure!
The food was great but there was a miscommunication with our reservation. Unbeknownst to us our staff Christmas party dinner was in the lounge instead of the dining room. Eating at a small table bent over with loud piano music was not the vision we had in mind.
Best place in St. catharines
Thank you for the wonderful experience and excellent food last night.
Great seafood and steaks too ! Great Caesar Salad made at. Your table fit two or more. Excellent service. A little expensive but worth it for the quality. This is a top St. Catharines restaurant.
Honestly wouldn t go back. Food was pretty good, but overpriced. The waiter named Dave was somewhat rude to us anytime we had a question. It made the whole night fairly uncomfortable actually.
