294 Water St, St. John's, NL A1C 1B8, Canada
Cheery, retro-Newfoundland-inspired bakery café located on St. John's main street (294 Water Street), in Mt. Pearl at 46 Bannister Street and in Churchill Square. Breakfast pastries, sandwiches, soups, salads, baked goods and great coffee headline Rocket's offerings. Both dine-in and take-out options are available. Check us out on the web, on Instagram and on Facebook!
Such a fun and yummy spot- had a lovely sandwich and cookie for lunch at Rocket’s the other day. Fun atmosphere, nice service and really tasty food. The baked goods looked great! Would be perfect if the chairs/tables were a little more comfy!
Amazing cafe & bakery, so much so we came here twice on our visit to St. John’s. First was lunch, great home made soup, fish cakes & egg and bacon sandwich and then for breakfast where they serve what I consider the best bagel I’ve ever had! The staff are really friendly and the seating are has a great vibe. You need to make this a stop on your travels when visiting St. John’s!
Their breakfast sandwiches are sooooo good and the coffee is amazing. The atmosphere is very cute + lots of seating.
My goodness…. Go get a cinnamon bun from here. Go right now. It’s like a magical fusion of a sour cream glazed donut, but with the crispy edges of a croissant, and packed full of cinnamon sugar. We picked one up from here on our first day in St.John’s and had to go back for more on our last day. Cinnamon buns are world class, worth the walk, worth the drive. Sandwiches were great too.
I went on a tuesday, it was lovely. There was a live folk band playing local music, I loved the atmosphere. The fishcakes are so good! The sandwiches are made with fresh bread and are delicious. Definitly a place to try!
Lovely home style bakery across our hotel. They have freshly baked breads, pastries and more. Some of the pastries are truly different from typical bakeries and we enjoyed the schneke, the sausage roll and many more items which I’ve forgotten the names but if you were to ask which item should be ordered, they will gladly tell you. We were not disappointed at all. It was busy that morning so our order took a little longer than usual but it was worth it.
Amazing little establishment serving amazing variety of baked goods, soups, salads and sandwiches. We have the chicken club wrap, a couple fish cakes, an almond croissant and a bio of Americano. Coffee was good. Good temperature. Wrap and soup was amazing. Fish cakes great and so was the croissant. Highly recommended
Update: I went today and ordered the rocket chicken sandwich and babychino. The everything was great. This place is amazing. It’s great for pick up and delivery. The best kind breakfast sandwich in a butter croissant is perfect. The Casablanca bar was tasty too. I also order hummus and crackers which are great if you are trying to be healthy. The crackers are made of flaxseed blend and gluten free. It’s nice place for a health conscious person, and someone who can’t be bothered with it to go. The prices are great. I put this place on the top of my door dash list. So happy I chose to order from here. Update: I went again today and had the rocket bun with chicken and a coffee. Everything was perfect. Update 10-27-2024 I went again today and my mocha was great. :-)
Excellent place to stop for a coffee (or chai latte). The sandwich was a bit on the expensive side but it was very fresh.
Great bakery & cafe. I recommend the grilled cheese and the scones!
Incredibly delicious croissants...and very sustainable, as products from the previous day are offered
Awesome bakery
Bake goods are top notch! Pain au Chocolate to rival the best we had in France! Amazing chocolate chuck cookies and cinnamon buns I indulged! We just had coffee but there are other special coffee options that others seemed happy with.
I love this place! The staff was amazing, and the pastries were out of this world :) and Dave, was a gem! Food
First of all, yes. The scones DO live up to the hype. Don t even question it- just get in and try for yourself. Second, just an altogether lovely atmosphere with loads of baked goods and some damn good fishcakes. It s right downtown and pretty popular (rightly so), so budget some time in case there s a line up. But it s worth it for a drink made with care, and a sweet treat that ll put a smile on your face. Vegetarian options: Not a huge number of vegan pastries, but the carrot cake and pecan crumble were consistently on offer and vegan friendly!
Good atmosphere. Fish cakes were a new experience to try. I got the Cuban that was really good. The salads were decent.
Great breakfast sandwich and coffee perfect way to start a day of exploring St. John s
I visited Rocket Bakery for the first time today and had a wonderful experience. A staff member named Zoya was incredibly friendly and recommended a drink, which turned out to be fantastic. The customer service was excellent, and I m definitely planning to return!
Stopped here the morning after I landed and I needed to work a bit on a project. What can I say: they re welcoming, the coffee shop is really cute, the coffee s really good and the tiramisu layered cake is awesome, although as an Italian I feel the need to point out that it s not a tiramisu at all, but it s great and they call it layered cake too so clearly they didn t intend to make a true to the original tiramisu. Great place I ll definitely be coming back
Very good local bakery. Service can be slow. Chill vibe.
My 1st stop for a bite to eat after an overnight landing in St.Johns A delightful place to eat. Quiche and salted cod balls were delish. So was the bag of ginger molasses cookies I brought to my hotel room. Will be back for more awesomness
Best cinnamon buns anywhere. And I consider myself a cinnamon bun enthusiast.
Good fishcakes
Now this is a great little local joint. Everything was so nice about it. The staff were so welcoming. Food was so tasty and hearty. Had the Cuban sandwich with the Roasted Red Pepper soup. And the place itself is pretty quaint. Loved it!!
Not the best pastry quality in town but it s not bad at all. It s good for a downtown stop to have a coffee and a decent pastry. I just find their pastries not fresh every time I try it.
I ordered a flat white, don t recommend, staff is very nice though
Best cold brew ever. The food here is yummy and they have vegan options for snacks.
I am only giving this a star, as the pecan square was okay I received this entire order in a 4x6? inch bag, with everything slapped on top of one another. I havent had Rocket in years, and its gone downhill terribly, sadly. The brownie didnt even taste of chocolate. It tasted like leftover refrigerator items. Like it had been in a cooler with items for weeks. And Im not sure if the white bottom was mold, but Im surely not eating it to find out. The Casablanca bar looked pretty, but the peanuts tasted stale and off. Inedible. As for the Partridgeberry Crumble - it was all crumble, and hardly any filling. Very dissatisfied. A Vachon flakie would be ten times more satisfying than this stuff. 0.5/10. Highly shocking this is what the place has been reduced to. Their desserts used to be really nice. RIP Rocket.
Nice place for good food and a great atmosphere
The scones and soups are very delicious (cramble is too sweet for us though) and all the staff were very kind. They were happy to accommodate various requests, such as providing a plate for children, extra cutlery, and takeout boxes, taking group photos. Kid-friendliness: There was also a flat area suitable for our 2-year-old child to take a nap. We, the parents, enjoyed a relaxing time.
This place is delicious! Great food. You have to try the honeybuns (cinnamon bun?). Wow! Great atmosphere & the staff is so friendly. Don t miss this place.
Went in on a Wednesday afternoon to purchase some of Water Streets Rocket Bakerys famous fish cakes as we were visiting St. Johns for a few days. We happily ordered fish cakes and were told they sold out a few hours ago. Very disappointed. However, the next morning I called at 0810 (they open at 0830) and a gentleman answered the phone to inform me they were still unloading their delivery for the day. He recommended I call in about an hour.... I called at 0900. Same gentleman confirmed they had them. I called for a cab from the Sheraton and was at Rocket Bakery by 0920. They had a breakfast crowd present. The friendly lady behind counter was so nice to help us with our request and recommend how to travel with them. I ordered a dozen to take on our flight home for dinner that evening. We were given a small tub of tarter sauce (enough for the dozen) and the fish cakes were packaged in 2 domed plastic containers. We had them for dinner that evening. Despite not being fried they were so moist and delicious after reheating in the oven. We enjoyed most of them that evening. Would you believe we had the 2 remaining for breakfast the next day. Surprisingly, they were a great breakfast as well! Highly recommend (as we were) that you try them if you are in St. Johns. Get them before noon and/or call first to confirm they have them.
Very eclectic atmosphere, mismatched chairs and tables.....got to love it. Fish cakes and Best Kind Breakfast sandwich, both were excellent.
Takes a little time but its quiet and the coffee and baked goods are excellent.
The famous fish cakes are the thing here! It s a light lunch or breakfast. Home made tartar sauce is pretty good. Would have a little more fish and a little less potato in the cakes, but they were delish.
One of the coolest places in downtown St. John s to have amazing coffee and off-the-charts pastries. Their breakfast sandwich is addictive.
Loved the retro interior and the food was delish.with the Burlington welsh ladies chorus from ontario
If it s a Rainey day in St. George this is the place to be. We ordered a sandwich and a bagel 45 mins ago and it still hasn t arrived. Great place to sit here all day waiting for your food. Nice scones if you take it to go you get it straight away. Updated for half our money back. Waited an hour and half for food. Staff very slow
Deplorable service, I ordered a double espresso with milk (which never arrived) and a cookie. The cookie didnt arrive on the table, I went up to tell the girl and she told me she was going to look at it. I waited 20 more minutes and approached again and when he told me that there had been a mistake and he had not charged me and that if I wanted the cookie I had to pay for it, it didnt cost him anything to come and tell me that and not keep me waiting and let it get cold. my coffee
If you are in need of a coffee find this spot - best ever and the bakery is to die for
Locals recommended the lemon tart and Im glad I listened. Great coffee.
Grilled cheese was very good.
Such a gem. Food was delicious but the friendly service made it memorable. Im going back again today!
A great discovery in St Johns. The menu is simple, but very good. The fishcake is delicious.
The coffee and the food were pretty good so I m not really complaining there. Was it the best I ever had? No. I would have been willing to give Rocket Bakery another chance if it was just the food. But service was terrible. We stood waiting to order and had no idea when someone was going to take the order until my wife asked if we were in the right place to order. For a significant time previous to that, while we stood there two staff were working there who completely ignored us. Even if they weren t taking the order, they could have said someone will be with you but they didn t even do that. My wife and are old enough to not worry about things like that on the one hand, but on the other hand the incredible indifference has to be concerning for the company especially in Newfoundland where the people are generally so welcoming. I did notice a significant number of the low ratings were due to poor service. If I m Rocket Bakery I m taking a look at my hiring practices. But I m not, so they ll do whatever they want to do. I am giving them three stars to be generous.
We were with our family and relatives of 6 and they had space. The food was delicious and I got the Crookie , it had a creamy texture and a fluffy breading
My first time in NL and I ended up going twice to Rocket Bakery! The sandwiches are great, the fish cakes are fantastic and the soup was delish!! 100% recommend. I love that they use old dishes and furniture.
Best bakery in town!
Pretty disappointed to see the price of almost every item being charged higher than the clearly stated menu pricing. These are basic ethical business principles and unacceptable!!! And this was our 2nd visit where we didnt even ask for a receipt yesterday because we trusted were getting charged for whats being advertised!!! When flagged to the cashier, he couldnt help but say the system reflected these rates and he couldnt do much, wouldnt say its his fault but the management should be accountable for mischarging 100s of their daily customers who probably havent caught this!!! That apart, while the fish cakes were definitely good, the rest of the food was average at best with the Moroccan Chicken being very disappointing with just 2 small pieces of chicken!!
A great and random find on my travels to St. John s. My coffee was quality and the service and ownership were top-notch. On Tuesday from 12:30-1:30 there is live music and it paired well with my coffee!
Cute little cafe. Friendly staff. Drip coffee tends to be on the bitter side. Fishcakes are pleasant. Their saltiness is tempered by the tartar sauce. Could use a bit more service clearing and cleaning the tables, though Im not sure if patrons are supposed to clear their own tables. Vegetarian options: They have vegan options
The yogurt parfait might be the worst value on the menu. Which is, unfortunately, what I got. Get literally anything else.
The person who took my order was a bit abrupt (advised me there were many orders ahead of mine so perhaps they were a bit stressed), but my roast chicken sandwich was served quickly and was very good and price was reasonable.
Great baked goods and coffee. I havent sampled any main dishes YET. Friendly staff too.
Always a pleasant experience at any of the Rockets, this location is a little cozier than the other two. Plenty of nooks and tables to enjoy a coffee and pastry. The lemon tarts in particular offer a nice little zing of flavour, give one a try!
The food was so good. We had some of the breakfast sandwiches. And the grilled cheese. They were training new staff and everyone was lovely and helpful. The apple flip had a good flavour. The croissants were flakey and buttery. The cheddar biscuits were super yummy. The raspberry flake looked so good.
Super cozy cafe. Enjoyed an egg breakfast sandwich on croissant and latte. Others in our party enjoyed the pastries. Lots of tables for sitting.
Some of the worst coffee I ve ever had.
Forget any Scones you had tried before. Try theirs, probably English style, not so sweet, crispy enough to chew, and enough to have a light breakfast. Their coffee is amazingly special.
So many delicious, homemade baked goods and savoury treats! This cafe is also one of the few places that sells Phil & Sebastian coffee beans (which make such good coffee!).
This is a cool place. The location is excellent! The service is really great as well! Ive had nothing but pleasant dealings with the employees here. The drinks are good! Ive had a few different beverages, and they have all been great! Theyre a tad on the pricey side, but thats to be expected with local coffee shops. I got a chicken sandwich. I dont remember what exactly it was, but I do remember how mediocre it was. It was very expensive and for what it was, that price is not justifiable. It tasted like something youd make at home with whatever fixins are in your fridge. Ill be back here for the snacks and drinks, just not the sandwiches. Youll be better off going next door to yellow belly.
Unique products made in-house that are absolutely world class. Delicious. European. Quality.
Friendly service, good menu nice atmosphere. I will definitely be going back when Im in the area again.
Great baked goods and pastries. Drop in for a coffee and a scone for a good time.
Great service There s a line up and St. John s has a great number of great coffee spots. This is one
So if you re in Newfoundland and happen to be anywhere near water St., St. John s, and would love a cappuccino that will rock your world, then the Rocket is a must!! The young lady behind the counter makes the best cup I ve had so far, I spend a lot of time in Latin America so I m a little picky. The atmospheres amazing, food is incredible. Ten stars
Delicious coffee. We didnt go anywhere else once we found this place.
Great coffee, friendly staff, great service. Its easy to see why the place is so popular.
Welcoming atmosphere. Friendly and helpful personal. Good coffee and delicious bakery items. Highly recommended for coffee breaks and lunches. I felt good in that retro classic diner interior.
Breakfast sandwich is awesome. Staff was great.
Received some of the worst customer service at the water street location. The lady who was going to take our order seemed like she did not want to even be there, a photographer proceeded to push past me saying sorry, I just need to speak to the lady for a moment then had a 10 minute conversation with her, leaving us with no service until someone from the kitchen came out and took our order. While paying, he stared at me, making me feel forced to tip more than I normally would. The Coffee was sub-par, could have gotten the same for cheaper at Tims. The Pain au chocolat was very disappointing, two small straps of cold bitter chocolate in a butter Croissant.
We had their breakfast sandwich on a croissant and a cheese/green onion biscuit. They nailed it on flavour and amount of food. Very filling without being stuffed. Coffee and London fog were great! Good community vibes too.
Overpriced and slow service
Nice cheery little place with helpful, smiling staff. Both indoor or outdoor seating, if it is not to busy.
We had fish cakes and coffee. It was good.
Great service good value
Nice place!
Great desserts
Phenomenal breakfast sandwich and great coffee
The rocket sandwich was very tasty and the quinoa salad fresh. Great spot if you dont want to visit the many taverns on the street. You can see signal hill from here and its tiny.
The breakfast croissant sandwich is delicious, highly recommended.
Love the coffee and scones
Great little bakery/coffee shop
On a morning with cloudy skies that then turned into rain, we had breakfast in this place with coffee and croissants. Run by young guys, they provide you with a placeholder with the number, with which to consume what you ordered at your table. Kind and welcoming, they allowed us to wait for it to rain and so we avoided yet another shower with our clothes on.
Great fish cakes and a solid cortado!
Okay coffee, but the service was cold, I guess they are just overwhelmed due to their location ?
Great spot to stop for a nice affordable lunch in St. John s. Loved the grilled cheese. The atmosphere here is so cute!
Normally i love rocket bakery. But i stopped there for lunch on sat aug 5th and was absolutely floored at how rude one of the serving staff was. I paid by debit clicked the card, thought it had gone through and walked to the waiting area. The card didnt click as the terminals can be fussey sometimes. No biggie all the serving staff had to do was politely call me over to pay again. As i was standing in the waiting area i got a phone call from a client (as in important call) the woman behind the counter could clearly see i was on the phone. She comes over physically pokes me in the arm and very rudely tries to disrupt my call and orders me back to the front to pay. She could have easily just politely waited till I was off the call. Or just wave to get my attention to say there was a problem. The aggression was completely uncalled for. I wont be going back to Rocket if I see that server behind the counter again
Great breakfast sandwiches, treats, and drip coffee. Beautiful place.
Amazing food and drinks. Dont miss it :)
Bad coffee
The pain de chocolate was really soft and the chocolate actually melty, really enjoyed that. Extra points if its actually baked on-site. The americano can be a bit bitter, but thats standard for Phil & Sebastians. They open way too late for a bakery though. 8:30am on Water Street seems like a waste of potential breakfasters and java hunters, especially in the summer.
I stopped in to Rocket Bakery while walking around downtown and got a flakie & an iced coffee. It was great !
Great spot for a coffee and breakfast sandwich. Quality ingredients and very good coffee. Relaxed atmosphere.
Breakfast sandwich is delicious. Great coffee.
The Rocket has a special place in my heart, my wife and I were married above their old location. We used to love the restaurant but we visited multiple times over the past month and man, has the service gone downhill. I assume shortstaffing is an issue here like everywhere else. But these guys are all very young and frankly in desperate need of some supervision. Service is slow and barely verbal. Tables are left uncleaned, dishes piled up while staff members are visibly just standing around. It s sad to see! I really hope they can turn it around so we can enjoy this place again.
Good experience, baked goods were scrumptious! Slow service
Had breakfast here a couple mornings while staying in St. Johns. Highly recommend the Best Kind breakfast Sandwiches, so good!
Charming spot with great food and coffee
Great bakery and wonderful staff
Had a nice lunch here before doing the St. Johns Walking Tour. We had to have the famous fish cakes and they were very good.
Had a yummy and quick breakfast on a day where we had a full itinerary in downtown St.Johns! I highly recommend the raspberry flakie :)
I had a Raspberry Flackie today and I must say that it was as good as anything I ve eaten before.
This is a long way to come for the BEST breakfast sandwich! Its well named: The Best Kind Breakfast Sandwich. I had it on the aged cheddar green onion biscuit....utterly delicious. Tastes as good as it looks! - a fan from Plymouth, MA
I had my first Cod fish cake and it was sooo tasty. Fresh, lots of fish and the homemade Tarter sauce was excellent. I should have bought more to go .
I felt like I was bothering everyone working there by placing an order. Not welcoming or warm at all. Instructions for where to wait for your order werent clear. I didnt receive my pastry at the area that coffee was being passed out and waited there almost 10 minutes before lining up again to ask for it.
Very tasty
Great breakfast sandwich!
It was worth the walk from the Hilton, service was great, and I love a good espresso the breakfast croissant was tasty as well
Chill retro space themed cafe with delicious food and excellent coffee. Definitely recommend.
I really enjoyed everything from this bakery cafe!! Awesome service & amazing food and coffee!!! This is one of my favourite place in St.Johns!!!
Fantastic food and coffee. Staff was friendly and accommodating. I recommend that you give this place a try.
Rocket refused to give our wedding deposit back even though it would have been impossible for them to provide the services agreed upon at the time of booking. When we were forced to rebook our wedding plans at the Rocket Room due to Covid in 2020, we were initially told that our deposit would be held in trust until such time as the event could be rescheduled. When venues were again allowed to operate some months later, we were still unable to return to Canada from Australia due to travel restrictions in both countries. Then, near the end of 2020 we were informed by the Rocket ownership that they were moving from their old Water Street location and would, as a result, be losing the function room, and therefore unable to hold weddings in 2021. We were then told, after several emails back and forth with proprietor Dave Hopley, that we would receive no compensation of any kind from Rocket, despite the fact that the facilities we had paid for no longer existed. We got nothing at all for our money because of the supposed financial hardships that Covid had foisted upon Rocket Bakery; a company which, 18 months later, is now operating 3 locations. Covid has been devastating for many and outside anyones control but I am absolutely shocked that they can get away with keeping our money, when they are still operating a successful business. It is truly shameful behaviour from a company that has the gall to associate itself with the traditional Newfoundland values of kindness and community. What is worse, I strongly suspect that we are not alone in our experience.
Awesome baked goods
I wish I could find them more stars my chocolatine was disappointing though the pastry was decent. The lack of chocolate impacted my overall enjoyment. Their current scone (not pictured) was good though it was very dense and floury than I m used to. I may return to try other items in the future but not before I give other places a chance.
I love Rocket Bakery. Love their bakery products. Their flakies and croissants are sooo goood. Really like the coffee and teas they make. Great staff Always clean and amazing place to take your favorite bread. I visit the Churchill Sq. the most.
We love ROCKET! Best croissants in town!
Rude service. Overrated. I have been a frequent customer for 20 yrs... back when auntie craes at churchill sq. Has been a big part of my routine. No more. Just realized service and goods not worth it. Time to move on
Love this place! The new summer menu is lovely. Spicy chicken burrito better than expected.
If you buy coffee beans from them, dont let them grind it. I got home to discover I paid $20 for half of the 3/4 pound bag of espresso.
Always a delight.
Amazing service, Wonderful atmosphere excellent food
I had a strawberry scone and it was perfect. The coffee is delicious too!
Great people and great service :)
decent. ngl the pastry game has gone soft
This place is so good! I strongly recommend trying the St Johns fog, I was so obsessed its now my favorite drink! The staff was really friendly the place is super cute.
Awesome location!
I went there last Sunday, they had one fella working in the kitchen. It took 30 minutes to get a veggie sandwich and a coffee to go. I watched the fella making my sandwich and though he wore gloves he kept wiping his gloves hands on a dirty rag. I brought it to the attention of the waitress who finally brought my food out and she tried to justify what I saw. I told her what he was doing and I could see what he was doing. I grabbed the disgusting food and left. I wouldnt recommend this place unfortunately and I certainly wouldnt go there again.
Sooo good!!!
Food and coffee were fantastic. The breakfast sandwich is very good as was the tomato-basil soup and macarons. Eclectic little spot but highly recommended!
Lovely place. Delicious food and good service. Got a table outgrowth and enjoyed the beautiful sunshine and atmosphere.
In town from Toronto for a short visit and WOW. Coffee and pastries are outstanding. I ordered an iced mocha and a strawberry flaky.
Loved it ... great staff ... ...great cheesecake
Not like the original rocket.. Lost something in the move
Love it. Friendly staff, sweets and other yummies. Always a smart drop in when strolling downtown area.
Great shop with great people. I always find something I like on their menu.
Second vist in 2 years when I was traveling Great lunch quick and fresh.
Fabulous coffee Fabulous food Fabulous atmosphere Fabulous staff
Not impressed.. found it a bit pricey and the lemon tart I purchased was hard as a rock, I couldn t even bite into it
Small local bakery in the heart of St Johns on Water Street. Grab a coffee and fresh pastry. Cowboy cookies are the perfect snack. Raspberry Flakes are to die for. Grab a snack and a perfect place to people watch!
Lovely location in the heart of downtown. I had an almond croissant which was very flaky and just really nice. I also ordered a vanilla latte but it took an excessively long time to get my order and when I got it there was no flavouring on my order and the espresso was obviously burned and had had a nasty taste to it. They also forgot my partners order after waiting for twenty minutes so we had to wait for that to be made. If youre looking for great baked goods this is your spot but the coffee is absolutely undrinkable or at least what I received today was. With so many other great coffee options in the city I doubt I will come back here.
So sad I only found this place on my last day. Great coffee. Homemade Flakie was delicious!
Fantastic coffee!
Update July 2022: they have moved from the original location to one thats smaller in both size and menu. Still the same fabulous ambience, with great food and coffee. Our go-to coffee spot. Also lunch. Picnics. Bread. Pastries, sandwiches, sausage rolls, salad -- and terrific service. All this in a business with a social conscience and a community heart.
We came here almost every single day of our trip, and you guys were hospitable every single time. Thanks so much Food is fresh and tastes great, coffee is great. Lovely place!
Loved this place! Full of quirky charm and very cozy. The service was very friendly (especially because we were very undecided as to what we wanted! It was hard to pick something because everything looked so darn good! Very tasty and great coffee to boot! Go there fools!
We got here a little late to see all of the baked goods offered, but what we had was delicious, fresh made, and served on an assortment of mismatched vintage china. The tables and chairs are also mismatched vintage which only adds to the atmosphere of this place. The staff were very courteous, polite and helpful.
August 11, 2022 12 pm Clean Well lit Good food Friendly service I would highly recommend this place. Two thumbs up.
Coffee was decent, scones were underwhelming.
Good coffee, good sweets
Just go! Finally a great latte and Americano today in St Johns. I ordered a vegetarian breakfast croissant sandwich and my husband had a sausage roll . Both fresh, excellent and tasty. We shared a raspberry flake which was divine. Ignore the calories and give your taste buds a treat lol . I grabbed a packet of shortbread biscuits for later on with tea. Very impressed and will be back.
Great spot for breakfast or lunch. Loved the breakfast croissant, raspberry tart and cappuccino. Staff hard working and friendly. Recommend.
Amazing breakfast sandwich. Terrific coffee! Ill be back!!!
I go there for coffee whenever I go to St Johns Nfld. Im from out of province. Great cuppa jo and lovely eats too.
Cute little shop with old architecture. Tables available inside only. Locally owned. Food is fresh and delicious. $12 for a small wrap. Small town feel and decor. Right on the water street strip. Was busy with customers ordering for take-out. Inside seating less busy. Could be a bit cleaner inside...floors, windows and tea ceremony table. Otherwise a nice place to get freshly made good food.
Nice little place for a coffee and breakfast sandwich
Bagels are amazing here, taste like they are made from scratch. Cofee was solid as well. Quick service overall!
Good coffee and pastries
Amazing!! ordered an Americano and carrot cake, was out of this world amazing
Great coffee and pastries
All their baked goods are amazing and the coffee is great. Definitely will go back next time Im in the province
Very good pastries and very nice staff.
We came across the Rocket Bakery unexpectedly. It was a wonderful find. Visited three time in five days for breakfast. Service, food and location was perfect. Totally recommend!
Nice place - good music and not too loud - and bright, however the chicken wrap sandwich was quite ordinary. The desserts might be better.
We stumbled in need of coffee and was greeted to live music!!!!! So great
great food and coffee. but really need to open earlier
The salad was tasty but the the breakfast sandwich was very dry. I liked that there was ample seating outside and inside.
Cozy little cafe in the heart of downtown St.John s. very warm and inviting, the staff were great and helpful. The coffee and hot chocolate were great and we even tried some of the fresh pastries. Would recommend you stop in for a visit if you are ever in the area.
We were running behind so just bought whatever we could see, crescents, tea biscuits and scones one each, without reading the menu. Should have bought more because they were delicious.
Great coffee, baked goods
Always love coming here to sit down with a coffee and watch the world go by. Great space and delicious cakes!
Had coffee & croissant with friends. First time in the place. Friendly staff gave us a warm experience.
In the morning - coffee, cinnamon rolls and chocolatines are excellent. But in the evening you are likely to get lower quality service. From 5pm to 9pm they seem like they are in their last 30 mins.
Great store! Good coffee and awesome bread!! Staff are friendly and helpful for new customers!!! Jilust ask and they are more than happy to help! The store is like a horse shoe for covid so make sure you dont forget your bread or coffee!!! Will be back and highly recommend!!
Im not in the habit of writing reviews but feel compelled to comment on what I see as the short comings of the Rocket. 3 yrs ago I discovered the Rocket while working in downtown St Johns and have gone there religiously on every trip to St Johns, great coffee, love the food, casual atmosphere and service is good. On this trip I took my wife to the Rocket for a late breakfast thinking it would be a good experience. We placed our order were asked to be seated and our food would be delivered. There were no seats available so I informed the cashier, we were then seated at a table the size of a large dinner plate in the corner of what looks like a stockroom there goes the pleasant atmosphere. Our food arrived my wife had a speciality toast with avacado and it was quite nice, I had the breakfast hash it was poor quality, small quantity and over priced. The dish was mostly potato with a dry over cooked egg on top, the peppers and other veggies listed on the menu were spray on at best, this is not the Rocket I remember. The staff does not seem to be engaged in their jobs or their customers this is not what we experienced at any other business on our trip. The Rocket now seems more like a hang-out with nobody minding the store Unfortunately I think the Rocket has become a Dud
Great food and a nice place to take a friend. Most recently this was the Mount Pearl Location. Sadly Water Street is now gone. It will be missed.
The raspberry Danish was very good. More chocolate in the chocolatine would be better. And the butter croissant was a bit salty.
Most delicious cake and brownies I ve had in St John s. Looking forward to future visits and treats
Delicious treats and friendly service.
Popped in to grab a coffee and sweet with my partner today. The coffee was amazing, and so was the brownie that I got! I was extremely impressed with the price point of everything offered by Rocket Bakery. My partner got a London Fog and almond croissant which were both fantastic. The store front was clean and the staff were friendly. Definitely recommend!
What happened to the old location? When I was last in St. Johns, Rockets was in an amazing spot with great food, great drinks, lots of little trinkets and gifts, and a nice sitting area, etc. This new location is so much smaller with very limited options - not much of an experience anymore for a tourist. Why the downgrade???
Prices were decent and location is good for tourists, although very small and cramped. Unfortunately the raspberry flakey we bought was just layers of raw pastry dough. The sinful cinnamon buns were lacking as well; a dry lump of crumbly dough with barely one swirl of cinnamon inside. Very disappointing and as locals we will not be back.
Excellent place. They got chairs outside so I can bring my doggy and sit outside.
The best coffee in the city!!
Pricey.....!
