290 Freshwater Rd, St. John's, NL A1B 1C1, Canada
im sure the food was great but never had a chance to order. Horrible service only got served once in the beginning and that was just our two drinks obviously they must have bad training and management can't blame it all on the poor young employee . Waited almost an hour before she came back and talked to us but by then kitchen was closed and we couldn't order anything. The place has gone down hill avoid it if you can Boston pizza is just as good with twice the better service.
Well coming from the prairies I was told this is a great place to eat. Ordered take out and 116 bucks later I was so disappointed and sick after. One burger the shoot out- had literally no flavor the other was meh fries were the only okay part and the piece of cake I got was definitely not worth the hype.... my 6 year old makes better cake from a box.
Went there for Rib night... fall off the bone, amazing taste. The full rack was enough to share for a couple. Added 4 wings for $9. Wouldn't do it again. They were sitting for a while and overcooked... BUT... the ribs are definitely 5 stars with Bigs Ultimate sauce. The cookie dough 😋 cheese cake is a little pricey at $12.50, but the taste is to die for! Highly recommend 👌.
Some of the best wings I’ve had on the island. The server was able to remember 3 orders with different flavours, breaded vs. non breaded, special requests, combining sauces, dips and drinks. Really impressed. On Tuesday, it’s half price wings: 17.99 for two pounds. The wings are big and they don’t skimp on the portions. A strange obversation but the straws are amazing, not only are they plastic but they’re wide—optimal for drinking pop. Had to roll me outta there I was so full.
Food is fine, service is TERRIBLE. We have been here several times just because my friend likes the wings and every time the service was bad and the waitresses are rude. It takes so long for them to even acknowledge you. Not cool.
My friends and I went to a wings night event, but it was so crowded that they initially refused to give us a table. After waiting for half an hour and speaking to the manager, we finally got a table for four. Unfortunately, the waitress who served us seemed very annoyed. She was loud and impatient, and she rolled her eyes at us when we weren't ready to order immediately. I understand the rush but I was extremely disappointed by her unprofessional and rude behavior. I would have given the restaurant a negative rating for service if possible.
My head was aching after work so I decided to head over. I can't decide whether to sit in a table or go to the bar. Andrea was very helpful in helping me decide and escorted me to the bar. Chantelle was very nice and efficient. Never missed a beat. I ordered nachos with my poutine to go. Wanted to surprise my daughter who's recovering from fever. My goodness the plate of nachos were huge! I couldn't eat them all since I just had dinner so I had to share it with a nice gentleman. My goal was to drink beer and nurse my glass until midnight, but I chickened out haha. It was snowing and I had to walk back home. Not worth the taxi cab when you can just walk for 7 minutes. The place was very welcoming. Whether you're going there with friends or having a family night it's okay. I would certainly bring my daughter there if she's hungry and craving poutine for the weekend. Would love to stay longer but with the snow, I had to leave. It was great hearing people laugh, greet each other, banter, and just plain have fun. What's great is the place has a side for those who want a quiet night. If you want to go there and just unwind go to the right wing. If you want to decompress, get energy from the people who are there to have fun, go for the left side of the bar. It will certainly drain your wallet going there frequently. But if you want to have fun and just be in a place where you can unwind, it's worth it. I would come right back in a heartbeat if I could.
I was visiting from Toronto for work and we all finished work Late and decide to get good and drinks at the bigs . Amazing food amazing service we were all taken care of nicely food was served fresh warm to eat everyone got food on time not much wait place was clean bathrooms are clean . Tables were cleaned we were pretty much the only ones on the big room on the left side of the bar . Our server was awesome she took care of us all . A must visit with friends to enjoy ur evening watching games or just catching up .
Great wings
Ordered an appetizer of mexican dip for take out. It s barely 4 bites and pathetic. Its barely the size of my palm.
I was in search of a hot sauce that a friend enjoys at your spot. She s a BIG FAN of yall & that the hot sauce. I called late in the evening & Chantelle was so helpful. I wanted to say THANK YOU, I very much appreciate the time she took to answer all my questions as I search of this hot sauce my friend loves but doesn t know the name lol. THANK YOU CHANTELLE!!!! Yall got a solid great employee Thank you very much Chantelle
Best wing BOGO deal in town, lots of TVs to watch sports. Servers are always friendly and the beer is always cold.
Wing night is great. Staff are good. Atmosphere works. Check them out
Worst service ever in St. John s
As someone who works in the restaurant industry part time myself, i will always tip (the amount based on service) and I truly sympathize with others who work in the industry but WOW this was the worst restaurant dining experience that i ve ever experienced, so much so that it wasn t worth a cent of a tip. First of all, it took 25 minutes from when we were sat at our table for the waitress to even show up at our table we ordered right away because we knew if we didn t, we wouldn t know when she d come to our table again. Food came, we asked for water with no ice and she literally never brought it to our table. She never once came by to refill our waters, ask us how we were doing, or anything. We had finished with our food by the time she even glanced at our table again. We asked for the cheque and was JUST THEN told that they would only be accepting cash payments, server said there was a sign posted on the door . I admit it was partially our bad for not seeing the sign, but on the way out it was a small A4 sized paper written in fine point sharpie, very easy to miss. When we had confronted the server about not being told about this cash only requirement either by her or the hostess that sat us (in my opinion that is definitely something you shouldn t miss out on telling your customers??) she ROLLED HER EYES AT US, gave us attitude and just said I could ve but i was busy . Again, working at restaurant myself, I understand being busy, but it is also really easy to turn people away from a table if you re too busy for your customers and too busy to give out important information beforehand. How can you say you re too busy for your customers as a server? That s your job no? And the attitude and eye rolling was completely unnecessary. At the end she let us etransfer to her manager to pay, and after we had told her we already e transferred she said ok and left the table, leaving us with another 15 minutes with no idea if she was coming back because apparently we were going to be using her manager as an atm . It wasn t until I had to go up to the hostess and ask what was up and if our server was ever coming back to make sure the bill was paid ghat we could finally leave this horrible dining experience. Will not be dining here again, hoping that the mount pearl location has better service because I don t hate their wings
Pleasant atmosphere, impeccable service and excellent food
Went to watch the hockey game. Ordered the pulled pork sandwich. Wish it has more sauce on the meat and the fries were a bit soggy.
Great place to eat out. I really love their sports themed interior.
Great food, atmosphere and great service
First time here, wings are delicious. Drink size is huge. Had a strawberry shortcake drink, to die for, you gotta try it! Highly recommended
We really enjoyed our meal here during lunchtime, and the service was great!
The wings are good and there is good service, perfect for watching sports
Wing night was a success as always
The speakers over the booths are way too loud when you are sitting right beneath them
It is a best place to hang out. I tried their food several times. Its really good. Nachos was good enough but didnt like the Ultimate chicken wings. Our sauce selection was wrong . We choose buffalo sauce but it didnt work. Will try again with another sauce. The serve Halal chicken.
MONDAY AND TUESDAY are wing night, 2 lbs for the price of 1. They are really good, especially when hot. My wife and I are making this a tradition.
Bring back the blooming onion.
From the outside you wouldn t expect the interior to be as cool as it is. The menu had a lot of variety. Food was delicious. Waitress was very sweet and attentive.
Been coming here regularly for 5 years, irregularly for 15 years. Food and service today was absolutely terrible, after months of mediocrity. Good luck, I wont be back. Edit: and wipe down the walls, the same splatters and spots have been on the wall for years now. It was funny at first, but Im sure its been a year since I pointed it out to the manager. EDIT 2: and the draft used to be the coldest in town!! Its barely cold at all now.
Our server was fine but it took 40min to get our food after the order was placed. There was one other table in the restaurant and three on the bar side. Absolutely ridiculous.
The host with the glasses was very friendly, I wanted to leave the bar before she got us to a table.
Very bad restaurant. We were a group of 7 from Montreal, just wanted to have a nice time. Friends told us a nice restaurant. But the waitress was so mean and rude. She did not appear after 20 minutes to take our order, she was frustrated because we ask for 2 minutes to decide the appetizers. No water was served after 30 minutes, finally she decided to serve the beer we ordered, but she didnt bring the glasses. We had to ask for the glasses, who was bring to our table after 15 minutes. Really, I never saw such a rude waitress on all my visit to Newfoundland. Very unprofessional and zero customer care. I always praise the people in St Johns, am so disapointed. My worst experience to date. That waitress needs to get cured.
Worst customer service ever.. waitress who was serving us was so rude that cant even describe it in words, we were waiting at the counter to get served and get seated for almost 8 minutes and then another family of 3 came, she skipped us and served them and then served us, even after taking our orders she never came back to check on us if we wanted something else and in the meantime she was checking on the others, I don t know if it was because of the colour of our skins or something else idk, I never left a restaurant with 0% tip but I did it today, however food was amazing
Great spot
Cheap food. Service is terrible. The waitresses are very rude. Do not recommend.
We love going here on wing night - servers are always friendly and helpful. Food is good and easy going atmosphere. It would be an improvement to update the servers uniforms to be a little more tasteful currently their uniforms vibe is too much like hooters (super short skirt etc) which is outdated and not family friendly in my opinion. Otherwise its a good place for a casual bite.
Excellent service, food, and our waiter was very friendly and went that extra mile to make an extremely important occasion, even more special. An amazing time was had by all.
Food is good, deals on Mondays and Tuesdays on Wings. A large variety to choose among. Enjoy!
Love The Bigs!! Love going on wing night!! Always have great service and the food is top-notch!!
Bogo wings cant be beaten!
Love the ultimate wings
Ambrie was our server nice service everything really good and fresh -Salvatore Food : 5/5
The staff was friendly and the food was delicious. Will definitely visit again. Parking: There was lots of parking and 2 Handicap spots right by the doors. Wheelchair accessibility: There is 2 handicap parking spaces by the doors and the doors both open for a wheelchair to easily get inside. The doorway to the bathroom was nice and wide to accommodate wheelchairs.
Service is only a 4 since sometimes it can take a bit and is a bit pricy but they are always delicious Dietary restrictions: If youre dieting going to a sports bar isnt the best idea but dont limit yourself
Always delicious food and friendly service. A bit slower but worth the wait
They used to be better. But now their service has gone down. The food is not as fresh as it used to be and the staff not as kind and helpful as they used to be. Sad to see the decline of such a good restaurant.
This was the go-to spot once in a while. The food is never fresh anymore and the service is sub-par, and when the issue is addressed, the servers are very rude. The quality is degrading week by week. It s sad.
I used to enjoy the wings at this place, but lately, the experience has been disappointing. The wings are served cold, not as fresh as before, and the servers display rudeness when addressing complaints. Despite being a regular customer for the past two years, the decline in quality and service in recent weeks is noticeable. Ive shared my concerns, hoping for improvement.
The overall experience ranging from food to customer service is degrading day by day. Hope they fix this soon
Always great food and service. The VERY BEST Cobb salad!!
Went to this location for some wings and had mexican dip. The wings at the other location is better. Very cold inside and when we mentioned it to the waitress she said she couldn t turn it on/up.
Large glasses, fast and friendly service, clean and good food
Best burgers and loaded mash potatoes in town. Only complaint is when we had a party of 6, we ordered 2 appetizers, Mexican dip and loaded potato skins, there was only 4 potato skins so we had to cut them in half so everyone could try them. I would have liked it if everyone had a full potato skin each. Still one of my favorite places.
Ordered pickup for their wings. slightly below average. Ive tried 4 of their flavours and they were all okay, but definitely not worth the price. Ordered during their 2 lb Monday & Tuesday special, and I still wouldnt say its worth the price.
Great!
Went for wing night with some of my extended family, we all had wings. The breaded wings were very crispy, and significantly better than the other location on the other side of town. My only complaint was that the wait staff offered many times to refill my wifes beer, but not once my Pepsi... We all ordered probably 20lbs of wings, sadly some were on the cold side. I attribute to our party size, but I expect better.
Nice place to have food with family and friends.
Great wings, good service (although she forgot the deep-fried pickles as our appetizer)
Definitely a place to visit it you have never experienced a sports bar in the past.
The chicken burger came under cooked and asked for it to be remade only for it to be undercooked the second time. First and last time Ill go there
Food was nothing special even with the $30 price tag for lunch. (Quesadilla and fries) No specific lunch menu. Service was super slow . Wont be back. Food
Absolutely loved the service
Great service
Great food and a great 0lace to eat. Service was excellent
Great place for whole family.
Service was great, the atmosphere was great, and the food was okay. Wings were delicious as always, but the Nachos felt refrigerated (they were that cold) and sparse with toppings. Food : 3/5
Ribs were dry.
Ok, The Bigs is the whole vibe. Its not just a sports bar. The food really hits the spot. Me and Mudder shared the Veggie Nachos and the Chicken Stir Fry, and we were Mmm-ing the whole time. My Dad and my Godfather got the Bacon Burger and actually lived and loved their lives. And, our server looked like Shannon from Love Island US, and shes just wicked good at her job. Everyone with me was having a time, so good on ya Bigs! Vegetarian options: All KINDS of vegetarian dishes, with really tasty flavours Dietary restrictions: The menu is super adaptable, and there is lots of stuff on it. Parking: Huge parking lot, piles of spaces Kid-friendliness: Perfect spot for the whole family! Tables and seats are big, and theres something for everyone! Wheelchair accessibility: There is a ramp up to the entrance, and a ramp inside to the eating area
Wings were overcooked. Not great for a place that prides itself on its wings. Service was great and lovely atmosphere.
Best wings you will ever have! Make sure you get the ultimate sauce.... so yummy!!!
Our food was great and our server Tristan was fantastic. Will return for more Mexican dip and electric popsicles!
My last 2 times at the restaurant in a 3 day week period, the food was the same, luke warm. First time was a Tues wing night, it was busy, waitress was frazzled, another waitress stepped in to help, great to see. Unfortunately, luke warm wings and fries on a wing night is not good. They had a hockey team or two there that night, so very busy. Then 3 days later, last Friday of the month, boys night out, Had the Rings & Wings appetizer thinking apps are usually piping hot, unfortunately not. Rings & Wings were luke warm when delivered and 4 minutes later cold. Service was good.
Cool place
Great Meal Parking: Freshwater Food : 5/5 |
This may be my new regular haunt when in YYT. Friendly staff, varied menu, great sports selection on the screens.
Food was delicious. Staff was friendly.
I just want to thank the staff for the great service and helping my family! The service was so great that I heard about it in Edmonton! Way to go!!!
Great location, look, layout & atmosphere. I go regularly and the food is always consistent, friendly greetings & service. Nothing to crazy priced either. Always hot & fresh!
Wings were very overcooked and dry
First time going here, and it was a decent experience. I loved the atmosphere with multiple tvs and different mainstream sports going on. I hope other sport genres or events would be made available as I and many other International students would love to see a cricket match together in an outside dinning space. I really enjoyed the fact there were many people of colour here and they all appeared to be happy, enjoying food and treated fairly. That is a very important observation I have when dining out since moving to this province as I have witnessed/been subject to: racism or discrimination when dinning out (by staff or general patrons in the environment). The staff here were knowledgeable about menu items, warned us about possible flavour or texture clashes as a couple menu items seemed to be different. I ordered some sort of hamburger with peanut spread. I thought it would be spicier or better complimentary flavour. It was still an ok burger but it was a dull thick nut spread. I thought it would be creamy and spicy, a nice fusion of culture flavors. My fault for misunderstanding. The burger was also extremely greasy. I thought it was just mine, but my family also had two different burgers and theirs were as well. I believe it was the bacon that made it very messy. The beef patty was thick and didnt appear to be frozen or at least it tasted fresher than I have gotten at other places. I enjoyed the staff, the food and the tvs and lighting were good. We went between lunch and dinner and it was not busy. The booth was comfortable (especially for us plumper folks) and as someone with back pain, I enjoyed that seating as it was supportive. The washroom and eating areas were clean and staff always were moving about checking in on the customers and refilling drinks. That was important because I was relying on having a drink readily available to be able to get the peanut butter on that burger down. Next time I hope to try their wings. I like the fairly close location to the university and the Avalon. It was family friendly (at least the time of day we went). It was overall a good time. Parking: The lot is behind in the back. I believe it is shared with neighbouring businesses. At the time I went between lunch and dinner there was tons of parking. I am not sure if thats the case in the night. As well I was here in the day time, I didnt notice much lighting available. I wonder how bright the lot would be at night. Thats a safety thing but also in the winter, I really like to see where I put down my feet to avoid black ice if at all possible.
If you are looking for a sports bar this is it. Food and drink deals arent bad, and service is great. They have a lot of beer on top, and unlike other places we went the same week. It was at least in stock and matched the menu
It is nice place qnd wheelchair accessible.
Horrible service, not too good of an experience for tourists
Had the wings loved it first visit second visit my wings were over cooked but tasty
Have to say that this was the worse experience I have ever had going into this restaurant that I have been into many times. After waiting for about 20 minutes and having waitresses pass us standing waiting for a table at no time were we spoke to, to say as much as we will be right with you. Left and went elsewhere to eat.
this is where my rugby team did a kit presentation every year for George Street Festival 7s and we love this place because it can accommodate the team. We get all the different types of drinks and the food is good.
Food was cold when it arrived.server asked if we wanted it warmed up,if we wanted microwave food wed have stayed home.first and last time
Great food and service... highly recommended for a workday lunch. Easy parking and lots of seating.
Some of the interactions felt off.. I dont want to complain specifically already. I will go again and then decide
If you are looking for service with a smile, you will find neither here. I have NEVER left a 0% tip until now. Food was good, atmosphere was nice, service was terrible, ordered our food and drink from the bar. Visiting from out of town, took a $15 cab ride to watch my sports team, wish I stayed in the hotel and ordered pizza!!!
I like the sports theme Food was good Fast service Great waitress 2 thumbs up. Will go back again
Bigs is a good sports grill with 2 for 1 wings on Mondays and Tuesdays. $16.99/lb (or $8.50/lb on wing night) is a bit steep for a wing special but the quality was there and the service was good. Hosts greeting you right away and prompt service of beer and wings. If you want some wings and a beer and arent looking for a water front view... this is the place you are after. Parking: Tonnes of parking
This is my favourite restaurant in St. John s. I go there at least once a month on wing night, especially come NHL and NBA season. The wings are good, beer is even better!
very pricey
Great place to unwind after work with great food and service
Food was cold service was slow.
Great service and the cleanest bathroom I ever seen!
Pretty good spot for wings and nachos.
Cant beat the wings.
2 for 1 wing night is always good buy the music was way to loud for the crowd that was there. Wheelchair accessibility: Good access
We ordered a delivery, they did not follow directions. The boiled potato was the only good thing that we could eat.
I ordered honey hot wings, they were dry, and the taste of black pepper was overwhelming.
Fast service and friendly staff
Service is friendly and quick, the restaurant is spacious and comfortable too. The food was great, and the diversity of the menu means theres something for everyone.
Great wing nights.
Standard fare but nice place.. the waitresses are gems.
This place is always good
Great food great service
Great pub Grub
Dry spice wings be careful - lots of spice... Too much for me and the others. Going to do plain next and see if that is better.
Front staff not friendly
wing
For my birthday I though I would celebrate with some of my favorite chicken wings. Placed an order for pickup and they said it would be ready in 15 minutes. Showed up 20 minutes later and wings werent ready. Waited around another 20 minutes and finally got my wings. 2 hours after eating them though I start vomiting and have diarrhea. So full blown food poisoning. And it had to be the wings since that is all I ate that day since breakfast. So after 12 hours of staying up all night vomiting and diarrhea I still dont feel much better and am now dehydrated since I cant keep any fluids down. Bigs went from one of my favorite restaurants to never eating there again. Thanks for the food poisoning Bigs!
Food was delicious. Service, fantastic.
They have the best wings ever, bigs ultimate wings are a breaded saucy mess that explode with flavour.
Best chicken wings around
Always good food and great service from Tracey!
Sever was great! Steak was waaaayy over cooked and bland. I dont know if its a normal thing, but the vinegar on our table was watered down. Gross. After a bad meal months ago, i gave the Bigs another chance... Bigs mistake lol Would not recommend.
Love their wing nights on Mondays and Tuesdays!
Friendly service and great food!! Worth going there!!
Always friendly service and tasty good. My THIRD visit and NO COMPLAINTS!
Earlier this week my friend had dropped her ring in one of those drainage holes outside of The Bigs. An employee named Tommy happened to see us and kindly offered his help to which, he got the ring out in no time (keep in mind it was around midnight at this point!) Thank you so so much Tommy! Honestly, your kindness was very much appreciated. Give this man a raise!!
I was there two nights, the first night was great and the second one it was apparently football night. All great but I asked if I could watch the us open bc they have millions of tvs and the one in front of me no one could see it besides me. The waitress was a bit rude when I asked her and didn t even try, it was literally one screen it wouldn t change anything.
I ordered from door dash a cookie dough cheese cake . They sent me Dutch chocolate instead of it. It s not happened once. 7718793 is my number call me for further clarification.
Tasty food
Great food, great atmosphere.
Ok food
Great atmosphere. Good food. Great service
The wings were over done, or left in the chafing dish too long. Tasted right but had a tough and dry chew.
Reliable - Cold beer, great wings and nachos.
First time there. Great food, service and atmosphere. Food
I was very happy to find this place. The food is very tasty. The wings are proper, crispy, meaty & saucy. Great atmosphere with lots of hockey memorabilia. Beer is cold and isnt flat. Great friendly people and friendly wait staff. Good place to go for some good food and enjoyable evening.
I had a salad and wings. The salad was okay. But the wings were good. The service was good.
Great place for large celebrations without breaking the bank. Wing Nighy has 2lbs for price of 1, which is a fantastic deal and satisfying meal w a couple beers. Vegetarian options: Cauliflower wings, vege dishes and substitutions. Parking: Parks 30-40 vehicles Wheelchair accessibility: One level, no steps or inclines.
Chicken Wings of the bigs restaurant used to be n.o 1 in the city. Nobody could compete with the quality of the wings there. But recently it declined so much that it has the worst wings right now in the city. Also they give wrong orders most of the time now. Around 3 out 4 orders will be wrong kind of wings. I really hope they improve their quality again
I order a 10 oz striploin steak which I paid 35 dollars for and I ve had bigger 8 oz steaks at jungle Jim s which was so much better. the quality of the food that I had for the price in which I paid was ridiculous. I wouldn t pay 15 bucks for what I got. The fact they would even serve something like that is so unreal. What a waste of money
