Can you for dinner here with four of us. Who was OK but not great. Service was very good. Place has lots of atmosphere. Overall prices are way too high for the value of food. Dietary restrictions: They were great about offering gluten-free options

Great brew-pub, right in the heart of downtown. Didnt try the food, but the $5 Happy Hour beers (4-6pm everyday) were excellent. Well worth checking out.

Intimate moody atmosphere. Spot on with their alcohol selection and we couldnt decide what to order - too many good choices.

Very cool pub .we wound up in the Underbelly because we didn t make reservations ..everything was good except the vegetarian Asian noodles!!! Those need to come off the menu ..the veggies didn t taste fresh and the Asian sauce was just a sweet sauce .the Korean wings were delicious (I think they may have used the same sauce in the noodles?) .

We have eaten in the Underbelly a few times in the past and enjoyed the atmosphere, but the heavy velvet curtains that they have installed between the tables ruined our experience. They do not allow for air flow and we were all sweating with the heat. Maybe they would be ok during Valentines Day but not during August! Food and drinks were good - but please ditch the curtains!!

The worst craft beer I have drank in Atlantic Canada. Have had several home brews from kits that were significantly better. Food was not great either. Prime location but they have to revamp their beer and food menu.

Need to learn how to cook cod fish. Never tasted such bad fish in my lifetime. Food

I usually rave about this restaurant but my experience there last night was not good..I ordered the house salad, add chicken..the chicken was as dry as a bone and unseasoned and was extremely bland..only way I could eat it was doused in salad dressing, otherwise I really should have sent it back..I was on 2 minds of I should or not but when the server asked how it was I could not lie and say it was good, so I let him know the salad was great but the chicken was dry and tasteless..not to mention they charge $9 to add chicken which is over half of what the salad cost! I dont mind paying that $9 of the chicken tastes good, I dont mind dropping money anywhere the food is good..I was better off getting a burger, that is definitely their specialty along with the Vietnamese Pork bowl but I wanted something healthy..salad without the chicken next time I guess! Also they could have used some serious AC upstairs or ceiling fans, it was ridiculously hot!

Was there recently for a wedding social over the weekend. Everything was awesome except lots of people found the staff rude, snappy and not pleasant to be around.

One of my favorite places on Water Street since they have the best mussels in town. Great food including the Caesar salad, cod burger and of course their delicious mussels. The atmosphere was a bit crowded and noisy, but worth it once the food arrived. The beer and wine selection was excellent, and our server was fantastic. I will always return to this place for the good food, service, patio and atmosphere.

Yes, previous posts are correct. Service is very slow. About 35 minutes for a salad and a burger in the middle of a slow afternoon. And the beer isnt very cold. Other than a cool looking building exterior, there isnt much here to recommend, although the staff is friendly (but our server doesnt drink beer so couldnt recommend anything). I thought my $50 didnt get me a good experience. I wouldnt return again. Many other places within a minute or two walk, probably with cold beer and faster food.

Great food, lovely flights of craft beers and Trivia night on Tuesdays was a whole lot of fun for us visiting sailors. Made to feel very welcome and staff were great.

Had a large table (20 people +).. we made a reservation months in advance. The service was terrible. It took a really long time for beverages, appis and entrees. 2nd and 3rd rounds of drinks took forever as well and in some cases never came. When it came time to pay the bill, the groupings of bills was completely messed up. All of this said, the server tried her best and was very polite and apologetic. The poor girl was just overwhelmed. This was more an issue of scheduling and management than any one persons fault. Having a single server manage a table of this size was not adequate. Again, this reservation was made months in advance but was not adequately planned or scheduled for. Would not recommend for any group larger than 10 people.

I don t get the enthusiasm. The service was terrible I got my own spoon, got my own ketchup (but couldn t get my own second beer, which I would have). The food was pretty grim. The chips (fries) were soggy, sparse, and cool. The mussels were fine, but not great. The garlic bread could have come out of a box. The decor is nice and you ll have time to enjoy it waiting for service.

Just finished a fabulous meal at Yellow Bellys. We had a party of four and everyone got a fresh hot meal served very fast with great service. The fish was fresh and hot. Pizza was amazing and cant say enough about the Newfoundland mussels. Also had a salad big enough for everyone to share. We also had the guacamole and chips for an appetizer warm chips and fresh made guacamole. All food came out fast and hot. Yellow Bellys gave us and amazing dining experience. Thank you Yellow Bellys and the safe for a great meal.

We don t like light beers so we we were not a big fan of their beers, food, service and atmosphere was great though Vegetarian options: Vegetarian Nachos was great

Made a reservation a week in advance and was offered a table right at the front door. Seemed to be a big problem for them to find us a table that wouldnt be surrounded by people waiting to be seated. The beer was above average. Had the Come From Away IPA. Tasty and fruity. Shared the calamari and fried pickles. Pickles were great, calamari came right out of a bag, probably said McCains on the bag. Was overcooked and as salty as Ive ever tasted. Server was a nice person, would have liked to have been offered a napkin but we didnt really see her much so that never happened. Its been 10 years since Ive been here. Ive rarely seen a place go downhill so far, so fast. Theres a lot of places to eat downtown, Id suggest going to try those places. Against my better judgement I tried their airport location the way out and they didnt have half of their own beers. The beers that they make. Out of them.

The only table available for 5 was the basement, which was actually a blessing in disguise. The server downstairs was overworked and all over the place but he killed it and we had such a good time. Would recommend anyone to go to the basement. It was a little hot but the vibes were immaculate.

First beer drunk upon arrival in St. Johns.. fast service, nice environment, not bad for a drink. ... nothing special.

We went for dinner on Sunday June 23 service was unbearably slow. It took over 20 minutes to order, about 20 for beer to arrive and food over 90 minutes. Perhaps short staffed in the kitchen? Meanwhile several employees front of the house were just hanging out and talking and a couple of servers running around like chickens with their heads missing. It s an interesting way to run a business.

The beef (YellowBelly favourite) and the wood-fired 4 cheese chicken Cesar were to die for! The service is fast and polite. We definitely suggest that place!

Had the worst dinner experience I have had in years . Made us wait for 2h to get are dinners , clear that two of them had been sitting under a heat light for a long time . Staff was avoiding us , said that they would grab the manager to talk about the problem and just didn t . Priced the bill wrong . And after all that offered us nothing but a we sorry . I have never not given a tip , tonight I didn t . Will never go back

Very rude workers. No one welcome in entrance and we sit somewhere else and she made us stood with very disrespectful hand gesture. No respect to customers .

The mussels here are huge and delicious. We went there twice it was so good.

Outstanding service! Good beer. But be prepared if you re used to eating fish and chips It s a travesty, not at all traditional fish and chips, more of a cross between Japanese tempura and those cheap highlander fish cakes I ate as a child. They probably get away with it from tourist, but I can t imagine anyone from the Town recommending it. I was shocked they didn t go with a nice beer batter. Now let s talk about the fries dressing and gravy. Yes it s a good gravy, but too potent, it overpowers the lovely savoury bread crumbs. I d suggest a poultry gravy instead of beef to accompany the stuffing. Their fries are fabulous though. Just get those alone. Again, great staff in the front.

Beer and food is delicious and staff were so friendly! Our first experience of Newfoundland hospitality and would highly recommend to anyone visiting downtown St. John s.

Cannot say enough great things about this place. The seafood chowder and mussels were delicious along with a nice selection of beer from the bar.

Loved this pub. Went back for seconds before leaving for home after travelling around Newfoundland. Best seafood chowder ever!! The Underbelly was as good as upstairs if not better. Go Oilers!

I was there in June 2024. They seated us in the Underbelly which is in the basement and has tons of character. I ordered the beef rib. It was absolutely delicious!

Dropped by for lunch. Friendly and attentive staff. They were patient and good with kids. Tried the sampler of their product line-up. Good beer and above average pub fare.

Enjoyed a great flight of beer (with excellent suggestions by the server) and big portion of mussels (pale ale style), which were fresh and delicious. Server was very nice, but bar service overall was a bit slow.

Party of 6 went for dinner tonight Saturday March 30th...service was ok..however I have a huge problem with the nickel and dimeing at this establishment..both my sister ordered the fish and chips and didnt realize when he asked if we wanted tartar sauce it was an extra 1.00...Guac was 5.00 for small container when we ordered nachos as a starter...screwed up my sons order and still overcharged us on it ..not impressed ..I feel tartar sauce should just come with fish n chips no???

Seafood chowder was super good! very nice service and calm and relaxing ambiance inside. Will visit again while in St. John s !! Dietary restrictions: A few gluten free options like there salt and vinegar fish and chips which were very good!

We went in the middle of the day so maybe they were light on staff. Food was disappointing. Really wanted to like the place but unfortunately it wasn t great.

My friends and I spent at least 200 dollars in this restaurant last Saturday night. During our dining, the waiter took our orders and delivered dishes on our table which are his basic job. and then we can t find him most of the time, it turns out he was standing near the bar and focusing on chatting with co-workers all the time. My friend wanted some extra utensils and couldnt find anyone to help, and no one filled up water in our cups in time, causing my friends to be very thirsty at the end and could only share the water in my cup. Then what dramatic moment happened. I didnt expect the waiter to stand behind me without any distance and stare at me and the pos machine when I paid the bill, of course, I felt a kind of discomfort, so I didnt tip based on the situation. Awkwardly, then he grabbed the pos machine in a frustrated and angry manner, I could even feel him rolling his eyes, and he gone without any words and even didnt ask me if I wanted a receipt. Finally, I would like to express to this white waiter who is full of superiority, Im sorry I didnt tip you that night, but I am also grateful for the legal protection in Canada, even if the consumers spends $200 in nearly an hour and does not tip, she will not be slapped in the face or got punched, many thanks!

Thd Classic burger was bad; My girlfriend enjoyed it though, she enjoys anything when shes hungry -- which she was.

Service was very poor, No knowledge of menu items the food was brought to the table and we had to go and ask for utensils to eat with. Was Looking forward to a great meal but the food was less than average to say the least would not recommend or eat there again. Nachos were cold, mussels not fully cooked.

Awesome pub to enjoy a good burger and an ice cold beer! I would recommend their beer sample (5 samples) if you want to try most of their beers. I took the Guilty burger and it was one of the best burgers I ever had!

My wife and I had a meal there recently and it was barely edible. The food was cold, over cooked and a major disappointment. The place was drab, cold and uninviting. The prices are exorbitant considering the poor quality of food, atmosphere and service. We won t be back that is for sure.Bye the way although there are beer signs displayed the actually don t sell beer, ale only?

Personally, I find this one of the most overrated restaurants in the city.

I had the turkey guacamole burger and it was really good. The ingredients were fresh and great quality. I also had a glass of sangria which was light and tastey. A little pricey and too dimly lit for me, thats where they lost a star

Excelent service, great food, stellar local beer selection and the price is reasonable. Its a genuine St Johns pub with atmosphere and history. When we got to the airport and realized the restaurant behind security was run by YellowBelly, it was all smiles.

Had a reservation and was greeted by rude staff. Opted to leave before even ordering.

Decent prices for beer, my friend and I liked the pale ale. Our waiter was friendly. It was a nice vibe in there!

Always great food and drinks at YellowBelly Brewery. My husband absolutely loved the Chorizo Tomato mussels, and the fries, dressing and gravy was delicious. Very pleased and will be back again.

Mussels - chorizo and fire roasted tomato - nothing was left. The salt and vinegar fish and chips were good . Service was very happy and helpful. The beer flight was good - pale red was very popular

We got the burger, pizza and mussel . We liked the mussel the most . We didn t take the curry mussel but instead opted for the one with tomato sauce and chorizo, it was excellent. The guilty pleasure burger was also delicious. Pizza was average.

The service can be a bit slow at times (not enough staff possibly). The food is very good. I d recommend this restaurant.

Got off the plane and went straight to the YellowBelly Brewery for drinks and food. Service and food were excellent. Every 5 years I get here. See you in 5.

Delicious food and they actually sell things other than just beer Vegetarian options: There are non-meat pizzas, pasta, a burger, and lots of apps! Not a hard place for vegetarians to get food. Parking: All street parking, so it depends on the time of day on its availability and if it will cost money.

So happy we stumbled across this quaint brewery. Enjoyed a flight of beers which we thoroughly enjoyed. Great atmosphere and super friendly staff!

Large brew pub. The samplers were generous and a fun way to try the local options. Nachos are huge and fish and chips were delicious.

saw a mouse/small rat running around and was told by the server that it was because the building was from the 1700s, and they have pest control come in every week. havent seen mice anywhere else though... food and drink were good... but :/

Thats was an interesting experience. We were seated at the lower level, which is called The Underbelly. Very authentic place, but really dark, to the point you need a flash light to read the menu. The food was really delicious and we liked beer, just sometimes it was difficult to see what I was eating

The beer taps were not visible from the bar, and the bar tender did not spell out the choices for the beer flight, so she just picked them. They were good, but it would have been nice to know the choices. The mussel bowl was huge, but I was a bit hungry after the meal, as there wasnt much other substance to the meal.

Amazing food and service, but we were seated in the basement of the restaurant which was very dark and a little musty. But overall, a good experience.

Down in the basement is the Underbelly Speakeasy. Great atmosphere and really brings you back in time. We did the beer tasting and all beers are made in-house.

An overpriced Low quality pub without any charm. The fish and chip was a fish stick. I do not understand how this place has an above 4 stars rating.

My whole family came here while on vacation and we had a wonderful experience! Our server Amber was super friendly and accommodating, and dealt with our 15 person walk-in table with so much patience and warmth! Amber recommended the Bakeapple sour as part of my flight of beer, and it was my favourite drink of the trip! The pizzas and cauliflower bites were delicious, the service for a table of our size was very efficient, and we would definitely recommend! Shoutout to Amber for making our visit so positive! We ll be back soon! Dietary restrictions: very accommodating!

Service was great! Food was really good too.. I got the St. John s special braised rib. Little did I know that meant they d be giving me a rib the size of a dinosaur bone . Everything was delicious. Root vegetables were a little too sweet for me, I would ve liked more mash. But I think that s just me Would go again and order the same again! Wifi password is yellowbelly all lowercase.

The beer was and is still good. But Man this place has gone down hill. Used to be known for good pub food and burgers. The table they took us to wasn t cleaned; it was covered in a sticky dried liquid film that I think was a spilled drink from the last guy. The waiter apologized for the state of the table and then didn t clean it, haha. We waited a long time to get our drinks and even longer for food. The deep fried pickles were good. My buddy ordered a yellow belly burger and it was tasteless aside from the blue cheese. My fish and chips was really bad. The fries were salted to the point where I couldn t eat them and the fish was bland and tasteless, I ve literally had fish sticks from the grocery store that were better . I wish I could say better things about it but I really feel this place can t hold a flame to what it used to be 3-4 years ago. Beer is good, avoid food.

Service was great and very personable ! I had a 4 beer sampler and every beer I had was excellent. Highly recommend the beer.

We sit outside but inside was nice I mean it s a bar so being nice means it was clean and music was goos. It s alive little bit pricey but the quality of beers and snacks was good. The reason I didn t give 5 star is that we barely could find the waitresses to order or ask for something.

Went there at 6:30 Saturday evening, sat outside, ( our first time ever there) , service was very slow, they were all out of mussels and calamari! There was 6 adults, gave us water to start that was very warm and no ice, had to wait forever to have our drinks delivered. Once we were able to order our food, it took over an hour and a half to get it and we had to go inside to ask what the problem was. My friend and I ordered burgers with fries, when it came out, we had a dozen fries on each plate, embarrassing for the kitchen. Our other friend found a hair in her nachos!. Definitely won t be back and won t recommend!

Food was phenomenal. Popped in on a random Monday mid afternoon and had a drink and lunch at the bar. I had the one piece cod and hubby had the pizza and a salad. Both were super tasty and so well prepared.

Updated Review: Most recent couple times I went in there it was a bit of a disappointment. A group of staff were in for a staff party it seemed. One of the staff members went behind the bar to take care of their own order. Fine, whatever. But the annoying part is that she only took care of herself and the actual customers had to wait for the other bartender to come back. Second time, it must have been a shift change, as we came in and were seated at the bar, waited for about 10 minutes while a bunch of staff chit-chatted right next to us and the only person behind the bar was too busy printing bills to pay any attention to us. We just got up and left and that was the last time we were back. Previous Review: Classic old style brewery in St. Johns. Must see. Great bar area for a quick pint, or plenty of table space for a sit-down meal. Love the bar chips, and a solid veggie burger (delish ).

Another recommended restaurant and it was quaint. It was a two tier restaurant/brewery and we ate upstairs. I had a sample flight and then a nice flatbread. Very tasty and a decent variety of beers.

Pros: beers, people. Cons: food is kinda okeish but do not expect much. Major con: they are so horribly understaffed! With this location and this number of seats, they need at least two more waiters!

Friendly staff, but somehow they skipped our starter and dinner (fish and chips) was served within minutes. That was suspect. The fish and chips were mediocre and felt warmed up . In-and-out within 30 minutes. That s not what we planned for sitting nicely on the patio. Quite disappointed.

Great food and beer!! After driving to St. Jhons we needed some good food, and our host recommended this place, and we will recommend it too !!!

We came tonight (Tuesday Aug 15) for dinner and the food was amazing!!! We ordered the mussels with a tomato sauce and chorizo sausage, and the mushroom goat cheese pizza. The tomato sauce mixed with the spicy chorizo was to die for and we would have definitely ordered another side of just that sauce! The mushroom and goat cheese pizza had a delicate sweet touch with the addition of a splash of balsamic vinegar which pushed it to 10/10 status. In terms of service, sadly it was like night and day. We were sitting at the bar and typically would be chatted up by the bartender tending the wood and making the drinks for everyone pushing the experience to 11. Tonight was not the night for that. Im not sure if the guy was new but he was on his phone numerous times and seemed like his confidence level on his knowledge was pretty low. No food check. No offer to refill drinks. He seemed scared to talk to people who were sitting at the bar. I mention the fact that he was on his phone because as I was coming back from the washroom there was a guy coming out of the kitchen busy texting on his phone that had to suddenly stop because he would have crashed into me. All in all the food was the clear star here as it was absolutely amazing but we definitely felt ignored even though we were sitting at the bar.

We seen a picture of the chowder online and it looked fabulous so my husband ordered it, did not look like the picture at all and tasted like flour. The beer was warm and the service was horrible. Would not recommend this place to anyone, much better places to go downtown in which we will.

Newfoundlanders are the only people in the world that do not want to let down their neighbors. I really enjoyed my trip. However when we got served cold food and warm beer, they still charged full pop even though we didn t eat half of our dishes. This is my first review ever and unfortunately it is not a positive one. I asked the server to rectify it, and was told to call the manager (which I did)and see if they would rectify the situation, but nothing happened. They let us down.

Ordered simple nachos and mussels as a snack with some beers. Blown away by taste and quality. Server was on poi t during a busy time. May have been the best mussels this land lover

Had reservations on a busy evenings, and our table was in the basement or underbelly of the restaurant. The athmosphere was quite amazing and its as close as one would get to the turn of the 18th century vibe. 100% authentic. Unfortunately service wasnt great and it took 20 mins to get our drinks and over an hour to get our food, with no visits from the waiter in between. Food was run-of-the-mill bar food.

During a visit to St. Johns, my family and I stopped here for lunch. We enjoyed very much the plates that we ordered (fish and chips, kids pizza), while the selection of five beer flights that I had--the samples included a lager, stout, and cream beer--were very good. I would certainly return here the next time I am in St. John s.

Dropped in for dinner mid-week. It was a bit crowded so we sat at the bar. We tried the mushroom goat cheese pizza, and the chorizo tomato mussels. Both were excellent, particularly the sauce pooled in the bowl of mussels. We also tried the Ciderberg which was really crisp. The service needs some work however. I think the bartender was training and her helper was on his phone a lot of the time. We were ignored after ordering. Neither of them bothered to upsell with more drinks, or more food. Nice restaurant though, and great location on Water.

Terrible. Wait to be seated. Workers just stared at us. Like some Mexican standoff. We never got seated. We left. They re 100 other bars within 10 minutes.

Great place to have some great food and a beer. I recommend the St. Johns Stout.

A very terrible experience from the beginning. The water glasses and jug were both dirty with some grime and greasy fingerprints, the server forgot about our food and did not communicate an issue with an allergy. We were there at a quiet time and it was 40mins after ordering that they flagged the issue with the allergy. The other two meals came out cold and soggy and the final meal was another 20minutes. After trying to leave because it was taking too long they made us take the late meal to go and only gave us a $3 discount on the bill. Probably the worst restaurant experience weve ever had.

Stopped here for lunch and sat outside on the terrasse. We had fish and chips which was pretty perfect and muscles. We also tried their beer which they brew on location. The beer was very good!

Sunday night in St Johns. We did not have a reservation and we didnt mind waiting. We were seated initially on the patio George Street side of the building. There was a crackhead convention occuring on that side so we asked to be seated elsewhere. They moved us to the other patio. So now about 20 min in just getting a drink and still have not ordered food. We ordered mussels and garlic bread at 7:10. Our food didnt arrive until 7:50. At no point during that 40 min did our server offer to get us another drink or just check in. The mussels were good, not amazing. The garlic cheese bread was embarrassingly bad. I went in to pay the bill so I wouldnt have to wait anymore. I asked the other server if they were short staffed. Her response was its a little hard for 3 people to serve two patios and the tables inside. Really the only person in there working their butt off was the bus boy/Host.

To start, our server was very rude and very obviously not listening to us at any point, especially while ordering. We ordered the Buffalo Chicken Nachos with no onion. We stated that this wasn t a preference, this was an allergy. The nachos came out with onions. I had a feeling this would happen because as stated above, it was obvious he wasn t listening to us when we were ordering. We sent the nachos back, emphasizing that this was an allergy. A few minutes later, a new plate of nachos are brought out. The green onion had been scraped off the top and put in a container and still given to us??? And there was still a significant amount of red onion hidden underneath the top layer of chips. We re assuming these were just our original nachos and they tried to scrape off the onions. Even tho they were made aware it was an allergy. We sent it back again, emphasizing once again that this is an ALLERGY. Finally the third nachos came out. They still had the green onion in a container on the side (I m not sure what part of onion allergy they don t understand) and there was still a handful of random red onions on the bottom layer of nachos. Besides for this, our drinks kept getting forgotten. We waited forever for refills, and never did get them. I ve been to Yellowbelly multiple times before but after this I absolutely will not be going back. So to anybody with food allergies, you might want to twice before going to Yellowbelly to eat as they clearly don t have any consideration.

Nipped in for snacks and a pint. They have fries and dressing and gravy here. If you havent had that before you should try it.

The deep fried cod was the best fried chip I have ever had. Chips and beer were not at the height, but not too bad either

The food is AMAZING. The curry&coconut mussels are soooo good and it s such a big plate (it s halfway eaten on my picture). The pizza is good too. The beer is great, but it was missing 2 when I went. Also, there was a problem with the music so the vibe was off. But otherwise, it was Nice. Vegetarian options: Burger, nachos

We went for lunch and shared a 2 piece Salt & Vinegar Fish & Chips. They split the order and brought it out on separate plates which was a plus. The fish was cooked perfectly and tasted great. The fries were no slouch either and the malt aioli dip was so tasty. My wife had a Margarita which she enjoyed and I had a couple of pints of the Yellowbelly Pale Ale and its a great beer at a great price. Friendly service and good atmosphere.

The food was average. Ordered chicken ceasar pizza, calamari and fish and chips. The fish and chips were okayish but was very disappointed with the calamari and pizza. The quantity is too little for the amount you pay.

Great atmosphere ...exceptional staff and service.

My friend and I had dinner at Yellowbelly 2 weeks ago and the server and food was awesome but when we saw a mouse running around in front of our table, we were disgusted. It was also on top of the widow sill above our table! My friend was terrified! If they are in the customer area then I m safe to assume they are also in the kitchen area! GROSS! We notified our server and the server said it s an old building so you might see mice!! I m never going back! Such a bad experience

Out of all the places we dined at over the weekend, this one stood out as the absolute best. The food was exceptional, the service was excellent, and the Wheat Beer I ordered was simply delicious.

Go for the atmosphere and the food. Fish and chips were delicious. Good choice of microbrews.

As a celiac, I get excited about deep-fried things that I can have. The gluten-free Salt-n-vinegar fish n chips were outstanding! I 100% recommend. And the Fries were cooked to perfection. I was very happy with this meal. (I cant recall, so Im not sure if they have a dedicated fryer. I tend to have mild to unnoticeable reactions to shared fryers though. Or maybe Im just stubborn.) I also wanted to try the iceberg cider that they brew there, but unfortunately they were all out. (I eventually found one can at a liquor store, and it was good.) They were fairly busy, so the service was alright, but thats to be expected.

Their beer is so good. I did the sampling thing. Every single one was good

Ive had mixed experiences here. I love having drinks in the underbelly as it has a great atmosphere with friendly staff. However it wouldnt be my go to for food. I find it overpriced for mediocre food. Update: the underbelly is still nice, but it would be great if they could return the old atmosphere with no curtains, it doesnt have the same chill vibe anymore.

Had a great experience here. Service was great and I d highly recommend their fish and chips! Fish portion is a bit small but fair for the price. The beer is also very good. I would definitely go back again.

Incredibly frustrating experience.

This place is gone down hill. Greeted by a young man who didnt have a smile in him. It was very busy so waited a while ( no problem). Theres no manager. Staff is over worked. Food, not that good!!!!!

It was my first visit to the YellowBelly Brewery and it was the worst customer service I have ever experienced. Myself and my girlfriend waited 30 minutes to be seated, which was understandable because they had their outside deck happening. We chose to eat inside. We waited 30 minutes to get our appetizer, where we were not given extra plates, no napkins. We also waited an hour for our food. Had to wait an hour to get our meals. No cutlery offered until we asked. Then we waited almost 20 minutes to box one of our meals and to pay. We will never, ever eat there again.

One of our favourite places of the trip! I really wish YellowBelly exported their beer to other parts of the country because its one of the best! Thankfully we were able to take some with us. My partner had the 5-sample flight and I had a margarita. We started with cheese bread, then I had chicken wings and my partner had the cheeseburger pizza. We finished things off with a lovely creme brulee. Everything was super tasty! The atmosphere was tons of fun and service was great!

The food was amazing. Had the garlic cheese -y finger, pepperoni pizza and the fish and chips w/ vinger. The fingers are prepared in a wood oven and omg. The cheese on them is sooo good. It also comes with a side of marinara if you order this use it! It tastes so fresh. The pizza also is made in the wood fire oven and wow its amazing. The cheese is so gooey and the pepperoni adds a nice spiciness to the pizza. It is small as an fyi probably about the size of a personal pizza. My bf,who had the fish n chips, said that the gravy on the fries and the dressing were out of this world. The fish itself was nice and crispy on the outside (its breaded w/ panko breadcrumbs) the inside the fish is moist and flakey. Overall a great place to try do recommend.

Save yourself the trouble and dont eat here. You wait ten minutes to even get a seat, with the staff walking back and forth past you out to the patio without making eye contact and looking grumpy as hell. The bartender has zero personality and is very rude. The food is so not worth all that. If you want an enjoyable experience, go pretty much anywhere else. (Based on two separate visits, three years apart...same bartender, same service).

Tried to eat here twice. First time it was a party of 2 and we waiting over 15minutes. All we wanted was a beer. We left and tried again later with a group of 5. Restaurant was essentially empty and they said it was a 2 hour wait. We went and ate elsewhere and walked by and the place was still empty. Hostess was quite rude and really seemed to have very little care for customers.

I heard that the salt and vinegar fish and chips was a must-try, so I visited around 530 on a Tues to give it a try. It was somewhat busy, but not overly so. As mentioned in other reviews, it was quite a while before anyone acknowledged me. A group beside me come after me, and got their drinks before Id even ordered. Once my order was taken, my food and drink came quickly - maybe too quickly. My fish was not cooked, so the server had it remade. Second try was worth it! Very good! The price for the food was reasonable, but the drinks were expensive. My fish was $14, and a small Caesar - maybe 10oz, tops - was $12. It was good, but not worth the same as the food. Anyways, Im glad I went. The bartender was very friendly once she got talking when other guests left, and the building is really neat.

Went on a Sunday night and the two of us were seated in the basement....not a big deal. The staff were friendly and pretty attentive. The beer was great... had a sampler flight and bought some to take away The food was a disappointment. It wasnt bad, but very underwhelming. Very little flavour and only average sized portions. You could have knocked it out of the park if the kitchen had a little more inspiration. Beer: definitely worth the price of admission. Food: do some pre-eating before you get there.

Fyi no trivia nights even though thats the first thing advertised on their website. Also beware their online reservation system deletes reservations lately. The staff was nice, and that keeps it from being 2 star. Beer & food just meh.

It was my first time to St John s and I m sad to say that this place was where we chose to eat our one night here. The service was extremely slow and the food was less than average. I ordered some poutine and my colleague and I both ordered 2 bowls of mussels. The poutine was lukewarm and the mussels were cold! The waiter offered to place another order in for mussels which took an extra 45 mins. We even asked for the check and it was then the now hot mussels came out. I should have known this place would be terrible with how the outdoor patio area looked. Dishes and scraps of food left at nearly every table which allowed for dozens of birds to take advantage of. Save your time and money and avoid this subpar establishment.

Mediocre beer, mediocre service. Overcooked burger. Cold mussels with tasteless sauce.

This was a fantastic stop. I got the flight shown on the menu. The pours are the perfect size and they are all from this brewery. They seemed to have a full liquor bar as well as other beers but I believe when in town drink something local. I enjoyed everything Ursula poured me and I would have stayed longer if I could. I am coming back to town in 5 days for another flight. The stout was delicious, the cream ale was tasty and the ciderberg was great.

Food was a 3/5 Beer was a 5/5 I had the bacon cheddar dip and it was meh. Smaller portion than I expected. There are much better food options in the city within a <5 minute walk. I did however have the flight of beers and it was great. Might have been the best deal in town with it costing $8 for 4. All of their beers tasted great.

Walked in and was fortunate to get a table. Cat our server was lovely. Good beer. Got the Chips, Dressing and Gravy and the Sweet with Heat pizza. Wow. Both were so good we made reservations for the next day. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Update: Back next day. Reservations needed. Food was great again but staff / service was a big miss. Cat wasnt here tonight and our server forgot dri KS and was NOT very personable. Food was great. Said it again.

Everyone in our party of 6 enjoyed their meals with highlights being the mussels, chowder and cheesecake! Great ambiance and love the Yellowbelly Irish Red. Smooth!

Slow service, cold food and messed up orders. Staff sitting around doing nothing, cleaning products and dish buckets on the floor by the bar. What a shame it used to be a great place.

its been 5 years since I last visited .. and unfortunately time has not treated this place well...rating went from four to one.... tavern charm has turned into dank, damp, old fish smelling air, with limited appeal. attempted to have a drink and desert and found myself underwhelmed with half a brownie which could have been bested by a brownie mix from Costco.

Fish and Chips were good but tarter sauce costs extra.

The restaurant was half empty but they told us they were full and it would be an hours wait. We went online and immediately found one of many open reservations for that exact minute to get in... I wish we had just left. This place was just awful!

Went for dinner, was seated and informed the waitress our 3rd guest will be joining us later and we will order food without the 3rd guest. She didn t come back to take our order for 20min. When our 3rd guest arrived she never came to offer him a drink or take his order. Pizza was amazing

Great trivia, targeted a slightly older audience than we were bit still fantastic. Truly abysmal service though and far too slow to justify being so forgotten.

Visit the Under Belly! The fish & ship here is very good. Firm and fresh, and good price. The place is also 200+ yr old! Highly recommended.

The service was not the great. food was not too bad overall was good. we had the mussels we very small. Atmosphere was excellent. The waitstaff can be bit more personal.

Their fish n chips is great!

The atmosphere is nice and the location is right down town so it is close to everything. The pizza I had was pretty good but the cheesecake was plain. Not bad but just plain. I m not going to say the beer was bad as I don t really like wheat beer but they only serve their own brew which limits your options. The prices are slightly higher than expected but with it being downtown, everywhere is a bit over-priced. Overall, it was a nice experience and the staff were friendly. We felt it was worth the money and we liked the old pub-style building.

I had the moose nachos. There wasnt much moose meat in it. And it didnt taste very moose-like. Which was disappointing. I also had a glass of wine, which was okay. Not sure why it didnt seem very good. And they only had Orange Pekoe - no other options. The service was good. I dont think Id be very keen on going back...

A gorgeous little bar in the heart of downtown.

Food is awesome but Ive tried a few places in st Johns and there is better if your willing to pay a bit more. The burger was delicious, totally satisfied. The local halliday butcher meat that they use is really good! Staff are friendly and serve quickly. A great quick meal with good quality beer and a chill atmosphere.

Worst Food Experience Ever!!! Very few Vegetarian or Vegan Options. The food quality could be better for the amount we have paid. We ordered French Fries and Koran BBQ Cauliflower, the worst I have ever tried in St. Johns.
